New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) The Faculty Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday urged the government to reconsider its decision to monetise AIIMS land and instead provide funds to construct accommodation for doctors and staff of the institute.
"We appeal to the government to reconsider its decision to monetise AIIMS land and provide required funds to provide accommodation for doctors and staff members of the AIIMS," said a statement from the Faculty Association.
It has said that the government's decision to sell the land is extremely unfortunate and painful as there is severe land crunch.
The association has also written letters to the Health Minister and the Prime Minister's Office over the issue.
The government recently decided to sell 10 per cent of the AIIMS land for commercial purpose to generate money for the construction of new houses for staff under a policy called monetising the land at AIIMS.
According to the association, the houses being constructed for the faculty members are below their entitlement as per the government of India/institute rules, further increasing the dissatisfaction in AIIMS.
"This is one of the many decisions of the current administration, muzzling the autonomy of AIIMS," said the statement.
