Delhi private schools adopting 'arbitrary' criteria get notice

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) The Delhi government on Monday issued notice to over 50 private schools for adopting "arbitrary" criteria for nursery admissions which it had abolished last year.

The notice was issued by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also is also the Education Minister, to the private schools after several complaints regarding arbitrary criteria being followed by the private schools.

"We have received complaints from the parents that several private schools were adopting arbitrary criteria for nursery admissions which were abolished by the Delhi government last year," a Delhi government official said.

"Notice has been served to the erring schools and action will be taken against such schools. They will also be advised to remove the arbitrary criteria," the official said.

Delhi government had last year has scrapped 62 assessment criteria used by private unaided schools in nursery admissions.

The abolished criteria include parents' profession, regularity in payment of school dues and lifestyle choices of parents like smoking, drinking and eating non-vegetarian food.
