Mumbai, Dec 8 (IANS) Actress Amrita Puri, who plays the wife of a prisoner of war in the TV show "P.O.W - Bandi Yuddh Ke", has a personal connection with her character as one of her family members has gone through similar circumstances.

Amrita's grandfather's brother, who was an army man, was captured during the Sino-Indian war of 1962 and was kept as a prisoner of war in Tibet for six months.

"I learnt about this incident during one of the conversations at the dining table. His wife's eyes well up even now when she recalls the incident," Amrita said in a statement.

"For six months the family had no clue about his whereabouts. The backpack that saved him from bullets is kept in our puja room along with the deities."

"It's a sensitive topic and I didn't want to use it as a reference point to play my part. I just hope that I have been able to portray the emotions with honesty," she added.

An Indian adaptation of the Israeli TV drama "Hatufim", "P.O.W. -Bandi Yuddh Ke" tells the story of two missing-in-action soldiers who return home after 17 years. Amrita plays the role of Harleen Kaur.

The Star Plus show also features Purab Kohli, Sandhya Mridul, Satyadeep Dubey and Rasika Dugal.
