New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS) Senior BJP leaders including Former Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani and party President Amit Shah on Tuesday condloled the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
"I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of J. Jayalalithaa. She was dominant political personality from Tamil Nadu and was a very popular, dynamic leader of the poor and down trodden," Advani said in a statement.
Jayalalithaa died late on Monday following a cardiac arrest.
Advani said: "She had tremendous will power and had carved a special niche for herself in politics. She was referred to as queen of Tamil cinema."
"May the departed soul rest in peace," he added.
While mourning the passing away of Jayalalithaa, Amit Shah, said: "I am saddened by the demise of Jayalalithaaji. I extend my deepest condolences to her party and followers in this hour of grief."
"Her work as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and love for the people of state will always be remembered. Her tireless and relentless work has brought about a sea change in the politics and working of Tamil Nadu... I pray for peace in this extremely difficult time," he added.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar termed Jayalalithaa a "very popular" leader and an able administrator.
"She created "Brand Amma", a different kind of pro poor politics. My heartfelt condolences," he added.
Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung also mourned the death of Jayalalithaa.
In his condolence message, Jung said: "She was one of the greatest political leaders of contemporary India and was a source of inspiration to many."
"In her sad demise, India has lost a unique leader, who touched the lives of millions of people. She was an extraordinary politician with exceptional administrative skills and immense following, which made her a distinct leader in Indian politics," Jung said.
The AIADMK chief who was hospitalised since September 22 passed away at Apollo Hospital in Chennai late on Monday, a day after she suffered cardiac arrest. She was 68.
