Haryana to re-employ retired schoolteachers
Chandigarh, Nov 18 (IANS) To tide over the shortage of qualified and experienced teachers in government schools, the Haryana government has introduced a policy to re-engage teachers retired from its service, a minister said on Friday.

Making the announcement here, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said the policy would help make up for the shortage of teachers and provide quality education to the students.

Sharma said: "Under this policy, a panel of retired teachers will be prepared every year, which would have teachers up to 25 per cent of the sanctioned posts in each category. This will ensure availability of teachers throughout the year."

The District Education Officers (DEOs) of the district concerned shall prepare the list of post-graduate teachers (PGTs) of various subjects out of retired PGTs of the School Education Department Haryana.

The District Elementary Education Officer shall do the same in respect of trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and primary teachers (PRTs), according to the minister.

Citing the reason for initiating the move, Sharma said: "Strenuous effort are being made to fill the vacancies of teachers of various categories through regular recruitment, but for various reasons, schools have shortage of teaching staff."

He said the re-employed teachers would be given a fixed remuneration as per re-employment policy of the state government.

The experience will be counted only for the period in which the incumbent had taught the relevant subject. In case of tie in the merit, the incumbent younger in age will be preferred, the minister clarified.
