HC notice to Goa over casino licence
Panaji, Oct 27 (IANS) The Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday served a notice on the Goa government over its move to "renew and grant" licence to operate an offshore casino, promoted by a company linked to former Haryana Minister of State for Home Gopal Kanda.

A division bench of Justice F.M. Reis and Nutan Sardesai has sought a response from the state government within a week. Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues filed a petition challenging the government decision.

Kanda's offshore casino was non-operational for years and the holding company, Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd, had notched up dues to the tune of Rs 46 crore.

The dues were cleared by Kanda's company this month.

Goa currently has five operational offshore casinos and nearly a dozen onshore casinos.
