Judicial custody for woman judge in graft caseNew Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) A Delhi court on Thursday sent a senior civil woman judge Rachna Tiwari Lakhanpal to 14-day judicial custody in a corruption case.

Special Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal also sent the judge's lawyer husband Alok Lakhanpal and a local commissioner Vikas Mehal to two days in police custody till October 1.

Rachna, a senior civil judge at Tis Hazari Court, who was produced in the court by the CBI, was sent to judicial custody till October 13.

 

The bail application of Rachna would be taken up for hearing on October 3.

The CBI told the court that on September 27, a complaint was received against the judge that she had appointed an advocate as local commissioner in a civil case she was adjudicating and had allegedly demanded bribe.

The investigating agency claimed that it conducted a raid at the judicial officer's Gulabi Bagh residence here late on Wednesday night and recovered Rs 94 lakh.

She was arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the advocate, which was the first installment of the total Rs 20 lakh demanded by her from the lawyer.
