Lenskart, Samarpan organise free eye check-up for Tihar inmatesNew Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) Indian eye-wear company Lenskart has joined hands with Samarpan Foundation, a charitable not-for-profit entity, to organise a series of free eye check-up camps for Tihar jail inmates, a statement from Lenskart said on Monday.

The first camp was organised on August 17 where more than 150 inmates were checked.

"We would be organising a series of six camps covering six jails of Tihar, with one camp every month. The initiative is targeted to provide free screening to approximately 1500 inmates over next six months," Lenskart founder and CEO Peyush Bansal said.

"We are happy to join hands with Samarpan Foundation for this noble cause of providing professional screening to the inmates of Tihar, he added.

Patrick Sanfrancesco, founder of Samarpan said, "The free eye check up camp occurred to us as one of the few ways in which lives can be changed. We took this opportunity and tied up with Lenskart to provide the needed eye check-up along with spectacles to those in need."

Lenskart, with its special focus on skill development and entrepreneurship development in India, also gets people certified by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

It runs skill development programs across four cities for training people on operating complex machinery required for manufacturing lenses and conducting accurate eye exams.
