Majority of citizens want regulatory body for monitoring school fees

Majority of citizens want regulatory body for monitoring school feesNew Delhi, July 25 (IANS) As many as 81 per cent of the citizens want a regulatory body to monitor school fee hikes by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as well as the state boards, a survey has found.

According to the survey conducted by LocalCircles, a social networking site, the respondents believe that the regulatory body should also look at the quality of education and course material developed by the schools.

As many as 84 per cent to 87 per cent also said that a fee hike in school was a matter of great concern.

The surveyor also questioned the district administrations across the country and found that schools have not stopped fee hikes despite several notices being served to them.

"According to some district magistrates, the fee hike issue cannot be addressed by the district administration and a policy change needs to be initiated to establish a regulator," LocalCircles said in a statement on Monday.

"The survey results and the collective views of the parents will be shared with Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and state education boards," the statement added.
