Hinduja commissions 1,040 MW project in VizagHyderabad, July 25 (IANS) Hinduja National Power Corporation Limited (HNPCL) Monday announced that it has commissioned its 1,040 MW power project at Visakhapatnam, thus helping Andhra Pradesh to emerge as the first southern state to become power surplus.

HNPCL, part of the Hinduja Group, commissioned 2x520 MW thermal power plant which will cater to the increasing demand for electricity due to rise of industrialisation in the state.

"Unit-1 started supplying power to grid since January 2016. Currently both the units are in operation. The entire power generated by project is being given to state owned Southern and Eastern Power Distribution Companies of Andhra Pradesh," said Ashok Puri, Managing Director, HNPCL.

"It will primarily cater to the growing power needs of the rising industrial demand in and around the city of Visakhapatnam and the southern region, which includes some of the fastest growing economies in the country," he added.

Andhra Pradesh is the first state for implementing 24X7 - "Power for All Scheme" and pioneer in the country to initiate the power sector reforms as early as 1998. Its total installed capacity is 15,311.17 MW and aims to achieve 29,000 MW installed capacity by 2019, HNPC said in a statement.
