Gallery showcases portfolio of Dresden, Kolkata artists, poets

Kolkata, May 18 (IANS) A gallery showcasing a portfolio of noted artists and poets from Dresden in Germany and Kolkata was inaugurated here by German Ambassador Martin Ney at the ArtsAcre Museum of Bengal Modern Art.

Dedicated to a unique collaboration between artists and poets, the Dresden-Calcutta Gallery was opened to visitors on Tuesday, said eminent artist Shuvaprasanna.

Seven mainstream artists and seven poets from Dresden joined hands with seven artists and seven poets from Kolkata to create intaglio and etchings and poems for a portfolio named Shuttle.

 

"It is a portfolio of artists and poets from Dresden and Kolkata. It showcases seven artists and seven poets from each of the two countries. Mallika Sengupta, Sankha Ghosh, Joy Goswami are those included in the portfolio from Kolkata. I had requested them to participate and they had written poetry accordingly," Shuvaprasanna, Executive Trustee of the ArtsAcre Foundation, told IANS.

"The original artworks and poems created for this portfolio will be displayed in this particular gallery in our museum," he said.

The participating artists from Dresden were Lutz Fleischer, Eberhard Goschel, Peter Herrmann, Reinhard Sandner, Max Uhlig, Claus Weidensdorfer and Sonja Zimmermann.

Lothar Barth, Andreas Hegewald, Uwe Hubner, Lothar Koch, Gregor Kunz, Bernhard Theilmann and Michael Wustefeld were the participating poets from the German city.

From Kolkata, Dip Banerjee, Shipra Bhattacharya, Kinkar Ghosh, Shakti Karmakar, Somenath Maity, Munindra Rajbongshi and Shuvaprasanna were those who contributed in the art section.

Lending their expertise with words, from Kolkata were poets Shakti Chattopadhyay, Alokeranjan Dasgupta, late Sunil Gangopadhyay, Sankha Gosh, Joy Goswami, Dibyendu Palit and Mallika Sengupta.

"The translators for the project were Shashi Despande, Subodh Sarkar, Kalyan Ray and Dipak Rudra," said Shuvaprasana.
