Bombings, clashes reported in Syria's Aleppo despite truce

Damascus, May 9 (IANS) Bombings and clashes between security forces and Islamic factions took place in Syria's Aleppo city, despite a partial truce currently in place.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Monday said warplanes launched attacks earlier in the day on the neighbourhoods of Bustan al-Qasr, Beni Zaid and Rashidin, while armed groups fired rockets at the government-controlled al-Hamdaniya, Efe news reported.

Clashes also erupted between the two sides in the areas of Bustan al-Qasr and al-Mashariqa.

Meanwhile, military aircraft bombed the towns of Khan al-Asal and Kafr Naha, west of Aleppo.

They also attacked the town of Khan Tuman and its surroundings, which the Nusra Front, the Syrian branch of Al Qaeda, and its allies seized from the army last week.

SOHR said residents have suffered more than 90 bombings since Sunday morning.

These attacks are occurring in spite of the partial ceasefire remaining in effect in Aleppo, which began on May 5 and was extended two days ago for 72 hours in an attempt to stop the violence that has claimed 285 civilian lives in the past two weeks.
