New Delhi, May 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening presided over a meeting of his council of ministers, primarily to review the functioning of key ministries like finance, commerce, and communications as a prelude to completion of two years of his government in office.
"It was a meeting basically to review key developmental works," a source in the government told IANS.
"It was not stock taking per se, but some major key projects were reviewed," the source said.
The Modi government, which was sworn in on May 26, 2014, will complete two years in office on May 26.
At the meeting, the prime minister asked his ministerial colleagues to take the achievements to people through social media and was reportedly "not very pleased" with few ministers for not being net savvy personally and not able to aggressively use digital platforms to project their respective ministry's functioning.
He asked his ministerial colleagues to make adequate use of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, while asking various departments to prepare e-books listing their achievements.
"The food ministry for instance has been asked to explain effectively in the e-book how the central government is coughing up huge amount as subsidies. This should also clarify how many states are making false claims on foodgrains subsidies," the source said.
The meeting discussed the schemes launched by the government in the last two years and the way they are being implemented.
Earlier in the day, Modi told his Bharatiya Janata Party MPs to highlight positive aspects of the National Democratic Alliance government.
"The prime minister said it is high time that we should work towards taking all the schemes initiated by the government to the people as it is completing a second year in office," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters after the BJP parliamentary party meeting.
