EC removes two Bengal police officers

EC removes two Bengal police officersKolkata, April 19 (IANS) The Election Commission on Tuesday removed the officers in charge of two police stations in West Bengal, a poll panel official said.

"Two officers-in-charge, one in Shantipur police station in Nadia district, and the other from Domkal in Murshidabad district have been removed," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dibyendu Sarkar told the media.

However, he refused to spell out the reasons for their removal.

Since the announcement of the assembly polls, the election commission has come down with a heavy hand on erring police officers.

A host of senior police officers including city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar and a number of superintendents of police have been removed from their posts to slots not connected with election duty.

While Rajeev Kumar was removed following persistent complains from opposition parties that he was biased in favour of the ruling Trinamool Congress, others have faced action for failing to control clashes, not carrying out the EC's orders and other reasons.
