New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday slammed Darul Uloom Deoband for opposing the chanting of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' which the seminary says amounts to worshipping a goddess.
"Opposing 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' is open support to terrorism," VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain said in a statement.
He said that by issuing such an edict, the Darul Uloom, which is based at Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, had "proven that the Wahabi ideology of Deoband is mother of terrorism in India".
The so-called 'fatwa' reads: "Bharat Mata, according to some Hindu sects, is a goddess and they worship her. For Muslims, worshipping a goddess would be un-Islamic. We love our country but we do not worship it. Islam allows worshipping only one god."
