Bengal CPI-M secretary has total assets of over Rs.25 lakh

Kolkata, March 16 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Surjya Kanta Mishra of the CPI-M and his wife Usha have total assets of Rs.25,80,459.77, according to the affidavit he filed as part of his nomination process for the Narayangarh assembly constituency.

In 2011, the CPI-M's West Bengal unit secretary, who does not own any car, had shown assets of Rs.18,33,872 in the nomination he filed from the same constituency.

Over the past five years, the 67-year-old Marxist leader's assets have grown by 40.7 percent.

 

His total movable assets is now worth Rs.5,77,959, besides his wife owning 50 grams of jewellery -- the same as in 2011 -- currently valued at Rs.2 lakh. Five years back, the jewellery was valued at Rs.1 lakh.

The total current market value of Mishra's immovable assets is Rs.18,02,500.

Giving a break-up of his movable assets, the latest affidavit said on March 14 Mishra did not have a single paisa in cash, while there was a total of Rs.2,50,893.77 in his two savings bank accounts. He also has Rs.3,27,066 in Public Provident Fund deposits.

Mishra has inherited 14,400 sq.ft of non-agricultural land in Khakurda of West Midnapore district, on which he has constructed a house with a total expenditure of Rs.3,30,000.

The approximate current market value of the land is Rs.6,02,500, and that of the house is Rs.6,00,000, making the total worth of the property Rs.12,02,500.

Mishra, a medico, also has a government ownership flat of 450 sq.ft which he purchased in 2015 at a cost of Rs.2,40,000. The appromixate current market value of the flat is Rs.6 lakh.

The former minister passed his MBBS exam from S.C.B. Medical College in Cuttack in 1971, and obtained a diploma in tuberculosis and chest diseases from the same institution in 1974.

There are no court cases pending against him.
