Arsenal's Oxlade-Chamberlain out for two months

London, March 1 (IANS) English football club Arsenal's head coach Arsene Wenger on Tuesday confirmed that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered knee ligament damage and is expected to return to action not before end of April.

Wenger said the England international will miss the next six to eight weeks but scans revealed that he does not require surgery.

Wenger insisted the attacker should be available for the final games of the season and England's Euro 2016 campaign.

“He (Oxlade-Chamberlain) will be out for six to eight weeks. No surgery is required. We feared surgery at some stage before we saw the MRI. In the end we got, on that front, positive news,” Wenger was quoted as saying by Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained a knee injury in the first half of Arsenal's 0-2 loss to Barcelona in the European Champions League last week and underwent a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

The 22-year-old feared he would miss the European Championship so news that he should be fit for England this summer and the climax to Arsenal's season will come as a major relief.

“The next eight weeks means March and April so he should be okay for the Euros,” the veteran coach said.
