Mufti Sayeed Admitted in Delhi's AIIMS, is 'Absolutely Fine'

Srinagar/Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed was on Thursday flown to New Delhi and admitted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment. A state government spokesman said his "health is absolutely fine".

Sayeed's daughter and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti accompanied him to Delhi.

An official spokesman said in Srinagar that Sayeed had "proceeded to New Delhi for consultation and health checkup at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)".

"Chief minister undertook a hectic six-hour-long tour of Srinagar city on Tuesday amidst intense cold after which he complained of exhaustion.

"On Wednesday, he took complete rest at his official residence. It was felt appropriate to proceed to the union capital for consultation and medical check up," said the spokesman, adding Sayeed's "health is absolutely fine and he is taking rest".

State government sources had earlier said Sayeed was complaining of neck pain for the last two days, and "after symptomatic treatment did not relieve the pain, the chief minister was rushed in an air ambulance to New Delhi and admitted in AIIMS".

An AIIMS spokesman said that the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister "was admitted in the private ward of the institute today (Thursday) at 12.30 p.m".

Spokesperson Amit Gupta said Sayeed was was under observation of a team of doctors from the departments of medicine, cardiology and endocrinology.

The doctors will carry out some tests to know the cause. "At present his condition is absolutely stable except for a little fever," said Gupta.
