YSR Congress Demands Judicial Probe in Call Money Racket

Hyderabad, Dec 15 (IANS) The main opposition YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday demanded a judicial probe into the call money racket allegedly involving leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

YSR party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy met Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, urging him to direct the state government to order judicial probe by a sitting high court judge.

The leader of opposition alleged that leaders of the TDP are involved in the racket which was being carried out with the blessings of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He told the governor that not a single TDP leader has been arrested and to save his skin, Naidu has stated that those who took loans need not repay them.

Terming it as the most heinous crimes in recent times, Jagan said the mafia was not only looting gullible people with high-interest rates but was sexually exploiting women.

"The gang was busted with the complaint from a woman, who along with her daughter was forced into prostitution after she approached them for money for her daughter's higher studies," the YSR Congress party said in a memorandum.

Jagan alleged that the TDP leaders and their followers, emboldened by the support from the chief minister, have let loose a reign of terror in the state with the sand mafia, liquor mafia, real estate mafia and now call money racket.

He said the seat of governance Vijayawada, where the call money racket was busted, has become the hub of various rackets.

Jagan also brought to the governor's notice the issue of bauxite mining in tribal areas. He said the government was acting against the interests of tribals.

He said a woman tribal legislator was booked for attempt to murder because she had made some remarks against the chief minister for allowing bauxite mining in agency areas.

The YSR Congress leader said false cases against his party's leaders were booked.
