Kochi, June 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The new Health Minister K. Muraleedharan on Tuesday scored a major administrative victory after the Kerala High Court upheld the government’s decision to transfer Reena in connection with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) transfer row, setting aside the Kerala Administrative Tribunal's order.
The verdict comes as a boost to Muraleedharan, for whom the controversy had turned into a major early challenge after taking charge of the Health portfolio.
Reacting to the High Court order, Muraleedharan said he believes in taking quick action and would not allow any government official under his department to act in a manner that brings disrepute to the government.
He emphasised, “As long as I remain in this chair, no official in my department will be allowed to do anything that damages the reputation of the government.”
The dispute had centred around the government’s decision to transfer Reena, which was challenged before the Administrative Tribunal. The Tribunal had earlier granted relief, questioning the transfer order.
The government then approached the High Court, which has now upheld its position.
The ruling is being viewed within government circles as a reaffirmation of the administration’s authority in handling transfers and postings in the Health Department, a key wing where bureaucratic decisions often become politically sensitive.
The Health Department has been under close scrutiny, with transfers of senior officials frequently sparking controversy due to the large number of employees and the sector's public importance.
Muraleedharan, known for his strong political style, has indicated that maintaining administrative discipline and ensuring accountability among officials will be among his priorities.
The High Court verdict also provides the minister an opportunity to project that the government’s administrative decisions have legal backing, while sending a message to the department machinery about strict adherence to official procedures.
