Ahmedabad, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Ahmedabad Police have seized methamphetamine weighing 7.084 kg, valued at over Rs 14.16 crore, and arrested a 48-year-old man during a targeted operation in the Naroda area following specific intelligence inputs, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, senior officers had directed all units to intensify action against illegal narcotics trafficking and distribution networks.
Officials said in-charge Inspector S.A. Kotadiya received confidential information that a suspect would be moving on foot in the afternoon carrying narcotic substances. The input described the individual as wearing a black shirt with a floral design and grey trousers, carrying a blue bag, and moving from Nana Chiloda Circle towards the GEB Power Station culvert before heading towards Nana Chiloda village crossroads.
Acting on the information, a surveillance team led by PSI V.R. Chaudhary, along with staff members and panch witnesses, laid a watch near the culvert opposite the GEB Power Station. The team intercepted the suspect matching the description and took him into custody.
The accused was identified as Mohamadsajid Mohamadusman Sheikh, aged 48, a casual labourer, residing in the Andheri West and Jogeshwari West areas of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
A personal search led to the recovery of 7,084.0 grams (7.084 kg) of methamphetamine without any pass or permit. The seized narcotics were valued at Rs 14,16,80,000.
Police also recovered a mobile phone worth Rs 5,000, cash amounting to Rs 9,820, an Aadhaar card, and a blue-coloured travel bag valued at Rs 100. The total value of recovered items, including other belongings, was Rs 14,16,94,820.
A case has been registered at Naroda Police Station (Part-B), Crime Register No. 11191035260417/2026, under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify wider supply links.
The arrest comes amid a wider crackdown on narcotics and alcohol smuggling bids across the state.
Earlier, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch had intercepted a consignment of 406 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs 2.03 crore near Narol Circle, hidden inside a vehicle carrying onion drums.
Acting on specific intelligence, officers stopped the vehicle and arrested two Maharashtra-based men after discovering the narcotics concealed beneath layers of vegetables.
Investigators later indicated that the consignment was intended for distribution within Gujarat.
In a separate anti-narcotics action, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of CID Crime and Railways seized drugs worth around Rs 18 lakh from a residential flat in the Bopal area.
The raid led to the recovery of methamphetamine, hybrid cannabis, and cocaine along with mobile phones and other items.
Officials said the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and resulted in the arrest of one individual, while further investigation into supply sources is continuing.
