Speaking about casting Eisha Singh as Sara, filmmaker Peter Wilson explained that the role required an actor capable of breaking away from their established public image and diving deep into emotional complexity. He said, “We needed a challenging face—an actor who could break away from their established image. More importantly, given the demands of the story and the concept, we needed someone to play that specific character who could truly delve into its depths and deliver a performance of great substance. That is how we connected with Isha. We narrated the story to her—Sam did the narration, actually—and she listened to it with great attentiveness.”
Wilson further praised her performance, emphasizing the casting standards of the entire film. He added, “Above all, we needed someone who could truly do justice to the character—someone who could justify its complexities. Isha executed this beautifully. And it wasn't just for this specific role; we approached the casting for the entire film with a very high standard of excellence. Whether it is this character or any of the others in the ensemble cast—you will truly realize the quality of the casting when you watch the screening tomorrow, or when the film releases on May 29th.”
The filmmaker, who also directed, produced, and played the lead role, described Obsess as a highly risky and unconventional project driven by a strong creative vision. He explained, “Well, Sheji, the mindset was essentially this: first and foremost, we are visionaries. You envision an idea—you see the vision—and then you execute it, edit it, and bring it to the screen. That is my vision. As for the story—which was written by Sam Barya—there was a specific thought in my mind: I wanted to do something challenging. I wanted to go against the grain; I didn't want to follow the crowd or simply go along with the flow.”
He further added that the film’s concept was designed to push boundaries in independent cinema. “It was a very challenging endeavor. Once the concept was designed, the next hurdle was the casting process. And the biggest point was this: regarding that specific concept, I feel that if it had gone to any other producer, they would have found it extremely difficult—it was simply too risky. So, I approached it with a mindset determined to do something unique and different,” Wilson said.
Obsess marks a significant career shift for Eisha Singh, widely known for her television work and her appearance on Bigg Boss 18. In this film, she plays Sara, a character caught in a dark psychological conflict triggered by an ordinary moment that escalates into chaos. Notably, this is also the first time Eisha portrays an on-screen mother, adding further emotional depth to her role.
Produced under the banners of Jagraj Motion Pictures, Peter Wilson Entertainment, Rajinder Gill, and Jagdish Singh, the film focuses on intense human emotions, fragile mental states, and unpredictable consequences of violence and trauma. With its multilingual release and bold narrative approach, Obsess positions itself as a gritty addition to India’s growing psychological thriller space.
