New Delhi, April 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will offer 'shraddhanjali' or last respects on Tuesday evening to the deceased sants who lost their lives in Shiv Sena ruled Maharashtra's Palghar. However it remained mum on the murder of two seers in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district.

VHP Secretary General Milind Parande will offer 'shradhanjali' by lighting a lamp at 7 p.m. at the VHP headquarters in Delhi's RK Puram. A message from the VHP says this is "to pay tribute to the immortal souls of the revered saints and their driver".

Other senior members of the organization will also take part in the event, which is claimed to be brief and keeping social distancing norms in mind.

Meanwhile, the Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha and the VHP have jointly given a call for a 'Satvik Protest' on Tuesday in remembrance of the victims of the Palghar lynching. The two organisations have requested people to skip a meal on April 28 apart from lighting a candle. A poster too is being issued by two prominent seers -- Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj and Sushil Giri Maharaj. It explicitly mentions that the "silent campaign" is intended to be against the Palghar lynching.

The senior BJP leadership including its National General Secretary Ram Madhav and all powerful National General Secretary (Organization) BL Santosh too tweeted saying they are taking part in the "Silent Campaign".

However, the VHP has been silent so far on the killings of sants in Uttar Pradesh's Buladshhar.

While both the Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh administrations have insisted that the killings in the two states have no communal undertones, the VHP seems to believe just one. The Palghar lynching is reasoned to be the effect of identity confusion where the villagers thought the sants were thieves.

Meanwhile, SSP Bulandshahr Santosh Singh said that one person has been detained. He had stolen an article from the two sadhus and the latter had scolded him. The Bulandshahr Police has clarified that it appears to be a case of revenge where the accused was in an inebriated condition.

When contacted, VHP Spokesperson Vinod Bansal said he would "tweet" his comments about the Bulandshahr murders, but hasn't done so yet. There hasn't been any official statement on this murder from the VHP, as yet, either.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said: "Terrible ! Killing of two saints , sadhus at a temple in bulandshahr, UP ; but I appeal to all concerned to not make it communal the way they tried to make Palghar, Maharashtra incident." Its Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took potshots at "keyboard warriors".

The Shiv Sena is in power in Maharashtra along with the Congress and the NCP.

Shimla, Jan 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) There was moderate snowfall in the tourist resorts of Manali and Dalhousie, the weather bureau said on Wednesday.

The minimum temperature recorded at Manali that saw 5 cm of snow was minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. "For the second consecutive day, Manali and the hills overlooking it experienced mild to moderate spells of snow," an official at the meteorological office here told IANS.

He said picturesque Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, and Dalhousie in Chamba district experienced 4 cm and 15 cm snow, respectively. There was no snowfall in Shimla though.

"High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur and Shimla districts have been experiencing snow since Monday," the official said.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 10.3 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 5.1 degrees in Kalpa, 1.8 in Dharamsala, minus 3.6 degrees in Dalhousie and 1.2 degrees in Shimla.

The weatherman said the weather would remain dry now as the western disturbances have started receding from the region.

New Delhi, Jan 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Dense fog descended over the national capital on Wednesday and lowered visibility to 25 to 50 metres at 5.30 a.m. It was likely to remain same or further deteriorate till 10 to 11 am and only improve thereafter.

"Dense to very dense fog very likely to affect flight operations and transportation due to poor visibility," said the Met department. At least 22 Delhi-bound trains were delayed due to the condition.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.1 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast it to be a cold day ahead. The maximum was expected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

"It will be generally cloudy with light or dense fog," the Met said.

According to the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting (SAFAR), the overall air quality index (AQI) of Delhi on the day was 'very poor' at 344 with PM10 at 319 and PM2.5 at 177.

"The air quality is likely to stay in the higher end of the 'poor' to lower end of 'very poor' category. However, a sharp increase in wind speed by the afternoon, is likely to flush out accumulated pollutants," predicts SAFAR.

In Haryana, Hisar, Rohtak and Ambala registered their respective minimum at 7.8 degrees each, while Karnal saw a low of 7.4 degrees and Narnaul 6.5 degrees Celsius.

Shimla, Jan 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Himachal capital Shimla and nearby Manali received a fresh spell of overnight snow bringing down temperatures in the hill state as well as affecting the plains below, officials said on Tuesday.

Traffic in towns in upper Shimla district was partially hampered in the morning with snow piled on roads, however, it gave the resort and its neighbouring areas a picturesque look.

The snow that froze the "Queen of Hills", as Shimla was fondly called by the erstwhile British rulers, largely melted in the morning.

It was a low of zero degree Celsius here. Manali town received 9 cm snowfall and saw a low of minus 1.6 degrees.

Tourists have been flocking to Shimla and nearby places like Kufri, Mashobra and Narkanda even for weekends.

Hills overlooking Manali like Gulaba, Solang and Kothi have been experiencing moderate snow since Monday evening, according to a meteorological official here.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district, which saw 4 cm snow, recorded a minimum of minus 7.4 degrees, while it was minus 2.3 degrees in Dalhousie and 2.1 in Dharamsala, which was lashed by 13.6 mm rain.

"The higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur and Chamba districts have been experiencing snowfall since Monday evening, while mid and lower hills experiencing rain," the IMD official said.

The Met Office said a Western disturbance -- a storm system originating from the Mediterranean-Caspian Sea region and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region -- would recede by Wednesday.

Last week's snowfall and rain led to the mercury to plunge below the freezing point in many areas in the state.

Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district was the coldest with a low of minus 14.4 degrees Celsius.

The resort town of Kalpa recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 2.8 degrees in Manali, 0.8 degrees in Dalhousie and minus 2.4 degrees in Dharamsala.

The state capital saw the night temperature at 1.5 degrees, a slight rise from Sunday's minus 0.6 degrees. Nearby Kufri shivered at minus 3 degrees Celsius.

Met officials said the entire tribal belt in Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Chamba districts may witness more snowfall in the next two days.

Widespread rainfall may also occur across the mid and lower hills.

The weather forecast said the western disturbances -- storm systems originating from Caspian Sea in Central Asia and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region -- would be active in the region from Monday evening.

"The high wind speed is persisting in the region. SAFAR model suggests air quality is likely to stay in the higher end of the poor to lower end of very poor category for the next two days and the dense fog is likely to stay," SAFAR said.

A thick blanket of fog which engulfed most parts of both states hampered air, rail and road traffic in the region because of poor visibility.

Road and railway traffic was affected due to low visibility, which reduced to less than 50 metres at several places. Traffic on highways was plying slow, the police said.

The Amritsar-Ambala-Delhi stretch of the National Highway-1 (NH-1) was the worst affected due to dense fog at several places.

On the Sunday morning, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 6.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the average.

Adampur in Punjab was the coldest region in the north Indian plains with the low temperature at 3.8 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded the night temperature at five degrees Celsius, while it was 6.7 degrees in Ludhiana, 7.6 degrees in Patiala and 7.7 degrees in Gurdaspur.

In neighbouring Haryana, it was 6.2 degrees in Ambala, 5.5 in Narnaul, 5.2 degrees in Sirsa, 5.3 degrees in Hisar and six degrees in Karnal.

Motorists had a tough time driving to work due to dense fog.

While Shimla saw a light spell of snowfall on Saturday evening, nearby places like Kufri and Narkanda experienced moderate snowfall, according to a Met official.

Kufri, which experienced a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, had 3 cm snow.

In the state capital, the snow largely melted, while Kufri has a good accumulation of snow.

"High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur and Shimla districts experienced moderate snow," the official said.

Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti recorded a low of minus 14.6 degrees C, while it was minus 8.4 degrees C in Kalpa in Kinnaur district.

Reports say Ribba village in Kinnaur district had an avalanche on Saturday. However, there was no loss to life and property.

Manali, which is still marooned in blanket of snow, saw the minimum temperature at minus 4.4 degrees Celsius. The popular skiing slopes, just 13 km from Manali, have accumulated more than three feet of snow.

Shimla recorded a low of 0.6 degree Celsius, while it was 2.4 degrees C below freezing point in Dalhousie and 2.2 degrees C in Dharamsala.

The weather office said many places in the state would again experience snowfall on January 21. Till then the weather would largely remain dry.

Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express was delayed by two hours 45 minutes while Ghazipur-Anand Vihar Express, Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Vikramshila, Vasco-Nizamuddin Goa Express, Yesvantpur-Nizamuddin K.S. Kranti Express were delayed two hours and 30 minutes.

Allahabad-Anand Vihar Humsafar Express, Katihar-Amritsar Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express and Pratapgarh-Delhi Padmavat Express were delayed by two hours and 15 minutes, the official added.

On Saturday, at least 20 Delhi-bound trains were delayed due to dense fog in several parts of northern India.

The maximum temperature, however, is likely to hover around 17 degrees Celsius in the day and the minimum at 6 degrees Celsius, the weather department forecast.

"The city witnessed shallow fog on Sunday morning. There would be mainly clear sky in the day," India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

As per the IMD, the visibility at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday was registered 600 metres while the humidity was 97 per cent.

On Saturday, the city registered maximum temperature at 17.7 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature settled at 8.4 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season's average.

The maximum temperature on Friday hovered at 16.1 degrees Celsius, with 100 per cent humidity. The minimum remained around 13.

The weather office in Lucknow has forecast intermittent light showers for Saturday and Sunday in West Uttar Pradesh.

Agra has so far recorded 21 mm rain this January. Reports from the rural hinterland indicated loss to potato and mustard crops. For the moment there is no early respite for the region.

Shimla, which saw a low of 0.2 degree Celsius, saw partly cloudy conditions. The snow in the city has largely melted.

However, Manali and its nearby destinations Kullu district, some 250 km from here, was still marooned due to the snow cover.

It was minus 4.6 degrees in Kalpa, 2.8 degrees in Dharamsala and minus 0.4 degree in Dalhousie.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the minimum temperature was recorded one notch above the season's average. The maximum was likely to hover around 16 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the city recorded maximum temperature of 17.7 degrees Celsius, two notches below season's average.

The official said that the sky will remain clear throughout the day with dense fog in several parts of the city. The air quality of the city is 'poor' as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research. It recorded air quality at 281.

He said, the visibility on Saturday morning dropped to 50 meters at several locations. Fog across north India led to 20 Delhi-bound trains being delayed. Most of the trains are running late by three hours but a few are running late by four to five hours.

The weather officials said that the national capital is expected to witness shallow fog from Sunday onwards.

The IMD forecast said that dense to very dense fog was likely in some pockets over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and in isolated pockets over Delhi and West Madhya Pradesh.

There will be dense fog in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan Odisha and East Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours till Sunday.

IMD forecast for Sunday said the minimum temperate will hover around 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 17. There would be moderate fog on Sunday.

On Monday, Delhi will receive light rain or drizzle and the minimum temperature would be 9 degrees Celsius while the maximum at 18. The sky will be cloudy.

Reason behind the rains is a fresh western disturbance. The IMD stated: "A fresh western disturbance likely to affect Western Himalayan Region and plains of northwest India from 20th January. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread rain/snow likely over western Himalayan region during 20-21 January, 2020."

The minimum temperatures settled below normal at several places in the region. The Met forecast mild rain and foggy conditions will continue in both the states till Saturday.

According to the India Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog was likely at many places for the next few days.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Bathinda was the coldest place with a low of 1.2 degree Celsius.

In neighbouring Punjab, Ludhiana, Adampur and Patiala had a low of 8.9 degrees, 10.7 degrees and 8.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The minimum temperature in the holy city of Amritsar settled at 4.7 degrees. Chandigarh recorded a low of 9.4 degrees Celsius with mild rain.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) The national capital on Friday morning witnessed fog and the overall air quality was recorded under 'poor' category, as light showers lashed various parts of Delhi and adjoining areas.

The sky will be partly cloudy with the possibility of light rain and thundershowers during the day, the official informed.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius, an IMD official said. "The maximum temperature, however, is likely to hover around 16.4 degrees Celsius," the official added.

At least 12 Delhi-bound trains were delayed by several hours on Friday due to fog, railway officials said.

According to the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting (SAFAR), the overall air quality of Delhi was recorded at 266 with PM10 at 176 and PM2.5 at 110

The SAFAR suggested for less intense activities and reducing prolonged exertion to people having sensitive health and to be alert and watchful for unusual fatigue for healthy people.

Shimla, Jan 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) An intense cold wave continued in Himachal Pradesh on Friday with most parts shivering as Manali recorded 0.2 degree Celsius as its minimum temperature.

Khadrala in Shimla district had 15.2 cm snow, the highest in the state, while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest at minus 10.3 degrees Celsius.

The Met office forecast chances of more rain and snowfall in the state till Saturday.

Shimla, which saw a low of 0.6 degree Celsius, has received 3.6 mm rain unlike its neighbouring hill destinations Narkanda where it snowed.

Nearby destinations of Manali in Kullu district, some 250 km from here, also received snow. Kothi near Manali received the least with 2 cm snow.

It was minus 4.2 degrees in Kalpa, 4.8 degrees in Dharamsala, minus 0.8 degree in Dalhousie and minus 1.8 degrees in Kufri.

Those in the hospitality industry are happy as they are expecting a record number of footfalls this weekend owing to chances of more snow.

Naina Devi in Bilaspur district experienced 24.4 mm rain.

According to northern railway, the Katihar-Amritsar Express was delayed by six hours, followed by the Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar Sapt Kranti Express delayed by three hours and 45 minutes.

Even the Gorakhpur-Hissar Gorakhdham Express and Raxaul-Anand Vihar Sadbhawana Express were running behind schedule by three hours and 30 minutes.

The Barauni-New Delhi Vaishali Express was delayed by two hours and 45 minutes, Varanasi-New Delhi Mahanama Express was behind its schedule by two hours and 40 minutes, the Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Vikramshila Express and Darabhanga-New Delhi Bihar Sapmark Kranti were delayed by two hours.

On Thursday, 12 Delhi-bound trains were delayed due to severe fog in several parts of northern India.

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Thursday remained under dense fog cover throwing normal life out of gear even as the minimum temperatures settled below normal at several places in the region.

The Met forecast mild rains with foggy conditions in the morning and at night in both the state in the next 24 hours till Friday. The dense fog in the morning adversely affecting air, train and road traffic.

According to the India Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog likely at a few places in both the state on Friday and Saturday.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, the holy city Amritsar was the coldest place with a low of 3.4 degree Celsius.

Shimla, Jan 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) A cold wave continued to grip Himachal Pradesh on Thursday with Shimla recording a minimum of 2.8 degrees Celsius as major parts of the state remained below freezing point.

The weather office here forecast mild rain and snow across the state till Friday.

"The high hills in Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu and Chamba districts have been experiencing cold wave conditions," an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest in the state for the second consecutive day recording a minimum of minus 7.3 degrees Celsius.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district saw a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius while it was minus 0.8 degree Celsius in Manali, 1.4 degrees in Dalhousie, minus 1 in Kufri and 4.6 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala.

"The western disturbance is likely to remain active in the western Himalayan region till January 17, brining rain and snow," the weather office added.

Agra, Jan 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Heavy showers lashed Taj city on Thursday morning bringing the chill back, just when the locals thought weather would open up after Makar Sankranti.

"A few brief spell of showers we had in the night but as the day progressed murky clouds thundered and hit life Thursday morning," Vijay Nagar colony Sudhir Gupta said.

The showers brought some relief to farmers cultivating wheat but potato growers were concerned as high moisture could affect quality of the produce. Agra region produces around 30 percent of the total output of potatoes in the country.

Meanwhile, despite the wet weather, half the Agra city has been without drinking water for past three days. "We have been waiting for water to trickle from the municipal tap but only air is coming out and no water," said a desperate housewife of Jeoni Mandi area, Rukmini.

The local BJP MLAs officially opened the Ganga Jal pipeline that would supply more than 200 MLD additional water from a canal of Ganges in Bulandshahr district.

The Agra Water Works management said, "Ganga Jal will now be available to the old city. The Sikandra water works has been supplying Ganga Jal to many new colonies and part of the old city, for the past one month."

Yamuna running dry and polluted for almost eight months in a year, the 130-km long Ganga Jal pipeline project is expected to solve Taj city's water woes this summer, officials said.

Lucknow, Jan 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Incessant rains have intensified the winter chill in Uttar Pradesh and has also led to a further plunge in mercury in Lucknow and other parts of the state.

All schools in Lucknow and Kanpur, up to class 8, have been closed on Thursday.

According to Met officials, westerly disturbances in the hill areas are responsible for the fresh spell of cold wave that is likely to continue for the next four days.

Heavy rains were expected in western Uttar Pradesh and hailstorm was likely in some districts.

Thick fog was likely to take over from Saturday as rains subside.

"Temperatures are expected to fall till January 20," said a Met official, adding that the maximum temperatures hovered around 15 degrees Celsius.

According to Skymet, heavy rainfall is likely on Thursday in Bijnor, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Shahjahanpur, Ferozabad, Aligarh and Hamirpur.

Improvement in AQI is due to the "influence of approaching western disturbance, increased wind speed and fairly widespread precipitation," SAFAR said.

The Air quality Index may deteriorate slightly on Friday "but will remain within upper end of moderate to poor category," it added.

The Met has forecast that the bitter cold was likely to get over in about a week. On Friday, light rain may occur in some districts of northwest, north-central and southwest Bihar.

Shimla, Jan 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) A day after widespread snow and rainfall, cold wave conditions further intensified in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday with district headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti,Keylong, recording a minimum of minus 8.2 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office here said the chill would extend over the weekend as more snowfall is expected in the state from Thursday.

"The minimum temperature dropped by one-four notches after Tuesday's snowfall and widespread rains. There are chances of heavy rainfall and snowfall on January 16 as western disturbances are active over the region," a Met official told IANS.

The western disturbances are the weather systems that cause precipitation.

Popular tourist resort Manali, state capital Shimla and its nearby tourist spots like Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda may see good spells of snowfall.

The minimum temperature in Shimla was 2.1 degrees Celsius, while picturesque tourist resort of Kalpa, some 250 km from here, recorded a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius below the freezing point, 0.6 degree in Dalhousie and minus 1.8 degrees in Kufri.

Srinagar, Jan 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Heavy snowfall in Kashmir continued for the second day throwing life out of gear as many roads, including the Jammu-Srinagar national highway that remained blocked and flights were cancelled.

The Meteorological (Met) Department has forecast more snow over the next 24 hrs till Thursday. Kashmir Valley recorded sub zero temperature in the night.

"The major weather system has subdued, however, Kashmir will witness more snow over the next 24 hours," Sonam Lotus, Director Met, kashmir, told IANS.

He said that from Friday onwards the weather will improve.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway have remained closed for the last three days due to landslides triggered by incessant rains at Digdol, 150 km from Jammu.

According to an official, 3,000 trucks and 84 light motor vehicles were stranded on the national highway.

"Efforts are on to clear the highway for the stranded vehicles," an official said.

Three feet of snow has accumulated near the Jawahar Tunnel on the national highway. Men and machinery were on the job to open the road.

People were finding it difficult to go to their work places, and do other outdoor activities due to the snow accumulated on the roads.

Many remote areas in the valley have been cut off due to the heavy snowfall.

In Haryana, Hisar town had a minimum of 2.6 degrees, while it was 2.8 degrees in Narnaul, 3.6 degrees Sirsa, five degrees in Karnal and 7.2 degrees in Ambala.

Chandigarh, which was cloudy, had a low of 9.2 degrees. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 13.3 degrees a day earlier.
