New Delhi, May 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) BRICS member countries condemned the April 2025 Pahalgam attack and other terrorist attacks against them and reaffirmed commitment to further enhancing counter terrorism cooperation among them, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday.

The 11th Annual BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) Plenary and Sub Groups' Meetings were held in New Delhi on May 21-22 under the Chairmanship of India.

The meetings marked 10 years of the establishment of the BRICS CTWG.

Ambassador Sibi George, MEA Secretary (West) , "emphasised the importance of collective and united efforts of the BRICS member countries to tackle the global menace of terrorism and urged the BRICS member countries to work together to make BRICS CTWG a more resilient, constructive, innovative, inclusive and result-oriented Working Group in the keynote address on the inaugural day."

He also thanked BRICS member countries for showing solidarity and extending support to India following the heinous terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.

Ambassador George emphasised the need for a robust collaborative approach to tackle the challenges to counter terrorism, like evolving terror funding mechanisms, radicalisation and the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorism.

He reiterated India's policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

Sibi George also expressed India's concern over cross-border terrorism and called for concerted and united efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The Indian diplomat reaffirmed India's commitment to further deepen cooperation with BRICS member countries for a secure and terror-free world.

According to the statement, during the meetings, member countries discussed the full spectrum of counter-terrorism cooperation to address existing and emerging challenges.

Vinod Bahade, MEA Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism), chaired the meetings in which senior counter terrorism officials from 10 BRICS member countries also participated.

The BRICS CTWG Plenary meeting was preceded by the meetings of the five thematic Sub Groups, the MEA said.

During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant had remarked that some unemployed youths, unable to establish themselves professionally, tended to spread everywhere like cockroaches.

The observation later drew criticism, following which the judge clarified that his remarks had been misunderstood.

The following day, a social media user identified as Abhijeet Dipke reportedly shared a Google Form on X inviting registrations for the so-called “Cockroach Janata Party”.

What initially began as satire and internet humour soon gained traction online, evolving into a broader expression of public frustration, political satire and commentary on unemployment and governance issues.

During his interaction with the media, Dilip Jaiswal also commented on debates in West Bengal regarding demands for stricter restrictions on cow slaughter during Eid al-Adha.

He stated that cows hold religious significance in Sanatan Dharma and emphasised his support for cow protection.

The Minister’s remarks on both issues have since fuelled wider political and social discussions.

Hyderabad, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Telangana High Court advocate was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants who hit him with a speeding SUV in Hyderabad on Saturday in what police suspect to be a targeted attack.

The incident occurred in the Masab Tank area in the heart of the city.

According to the police, advocate Khaja Moizuddin was getting into his car near his residence when a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed him from behind.

The vehicle sped away after the impact, throwing the advocate onto the road and leaving him grievously injured.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The case was initially suspected to be a hit-and-run incident. However, following a complaint lodged by the family and scrutiny of CCTV footage, police are now treating it as a murder case with suspected links to ongoing disputes over Waqf land.

Moizuddin was a senior advocate who had been practising in the High Court and City Civil Court for nearly 35 years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshitha Krishna Murthy told the media that the preliminary investigation pointed towards the possible involvement of persons linked to disputes over Waqf lands in Malakpet and other areas of Hyderabad.

The family of Moizuddin named two persons allegedly connected to legal battles being handled by him relating to alleged encroachments on Waqf land.

Police have formed special teams to trace the SUV allegedly used in the crime and identify as well as apprehend the accused.

Moizuddin’s son Farhan, who is also an advocate, told the media that his father had received threats from two individuals allegedly involved in encroachment of Waqf lands.

Farhan claimed that his father had been attacked five times in the past.

He further alleged that one of the two individuals suspected to be involved in the murder had visited his father’s office a few months ago and issued a “last warning” regarding the legal cases being handled by him.

The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association condemned the killing and demanded that the Director General of Police and the Hyderabad Police Commissioner constitute a special team to trace the culprits at the earliest and ensure that they are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also condemned the murder of Moizuddin.

He demanded the arrest of the “main mastermind and assailants” behind the killing of “this brave advocate”.

“We stand with his son Advocate Farhan and the family,” Owaisi posted on X.

Owaisi also visited Moizuddin’s residence to offer condolences and console the bereaved family members.

The Char Dham Yatra, one of the most sacred pilgrimages for Hindus, is witnessing a record surge in the number of devotees visiting the four holy shrines -- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Speaking to IANS, Minister Chaudhary mentioned that all agencies, whether the police or public administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), etc. have been kept on high alert.

"The number of pilgrims who have undertaken the Char Dham Yatra this year is even more than our expectations," he said.

The Minister noted that a positive side of the rise in pilgrimage is that a greater number of locals are getting employment.

He also said: "It is true that a huge number of people are undertaking the pilgrimage, which is leading to large crowds."

However, Minister Chaudhary highlighted that so far, no untoward incident has taken place, which reflects that the rush of devotees and tourists is within control.

The Minister also said that all efforts have been made to provide the basic amenities for all pilgrims.

Special attention has been given to the walking stretch between Kedarnath and Gauri Kund," he added.

"Apart from amenities for pilgrims, arrangements of water and fodder have also been made for animals," he said.

He added that medical facilities have also been made available for the benefit of pilgrims.

Devotees have been arriving in droves, with as many as 80,000 in a single day.

The pilgrimage committee has pegged the total number of pilgrims visiting the Char Dham at 12.62 lakh till May 14.

Meanwhile, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were opened on April 19 amid the chanting of Vedic hymns, while those of Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines opened on April 22 and April 23.

As per details uploaded on the website of the apex court, the matter has been registered as “In Re: Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Girl at Her Matrimonial Home”.

The suo motu case, registered on Saturday as SMW (Crl.) No. 4/2026, is slated to be heard on May 25 by a Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi.

The development comes amid mounting controversy surrounding the death of Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.

Her family has alleged dowry harassment, procedural lapses in the initial probe, delay in registration of FIR, inconsistencies in the post-mortem examination, and possible tampering with evidence.

The Madhya Pradesh government has already recommended a CBI investigation into the matter following public outrage and demands from the victim’s family for an independent probe.

Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the case, was sent to seven days of police remand by a Bhopal district court after being brought to the city from Jabalpur under tight security.

In another significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court earlier directed that a second post-mortem examination of Twisha Sharma’s body be conducted by a medical team to be constituted by the Director of AIIMS Delhi.

The state government had also approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the interim bail granted to Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judicial officer, citing alleged non-cooperation and apprehensions regarding possible compromise of evidence.

Twisha Sharma’s family has consistently maintained that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment over dowry-related demands and has sought a fast-track trial along with a court-monitored investigation.

On the other hand Giribala Singh has questioned the manner in which the investigation was being conducted and alleged that the police were working under pressure.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A team of four senior doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Delhi arrived in Bhopal on Saturday night to conduct a second post-mortem examination of actor-model Twisha Sharma.

The second autopsy will be conducted at AIIMS Bhopal on Sunday following directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The High Court had accepted a petition filed by Twisha’s father seeking a fresh post-mortem examination by an independent medical board from AIIMS-Delhi.

Sources told IANS that the medical team from the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology would also speak to Twisha’s parents and brother regarding their objections to the first post-mortem report prepared at AIIMS Bhopal on May 13.

The doctors are also expected to visit Twisha’s matrimonial home in Bhopal as part of the forensic investigation.

Meanwhile, a Bhopal court on Saturday sent Samarth Singh, husband of Twisha Sharma and the main accused in the alleged dowry death case, to seven days of police remand till May 29.

Samarth was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Bhopal Police.

He was taken into custody from the Jabalpur district court premises on Friday after attempting to surrender there.

The court also directed that Samarth’s passport be seized, following which his lawyer submitted the passport before the court.

A lawyer by profession, Samarth is the son of former judge Giribala Singh.

He had been missing since May 15 after Katara Hills Police registered a dowry death and harassment case against him and his mother in connection with Twisha’s death.

Bhopal Police had announced a reward for information leading to his arrest and had also issued a lookout circular against him.

While Giribala Singh had earlier secured anticipatory bail, Samarth’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a lower court.

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court has permitted wrestler Vinesh Phogat to participate in the Asian Games 2026 selection trials, holding that motherhood cannot be treated as a “disability” or a ground for exclusion from professional opportunities.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, while questioning the exclusionary nature of the eligibility criteria framed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), directed the federation to allow Phogat to participate in the trials scheduled for May 30 and 31 and ordered that the process be video-recorded.

“Motherhood must be viewed as a natural and deeply significant aspect of life that deserves accommodation and institutional sensitivity. Therefore, the law must ensure that motherhood does not become a ground for exclusion or marginalisation of female athletes such as the Appellant,” the Delhi High Court said.

Allowing Phogat’s appeal against the earlier interim order passed by a single judge, the CJ Upadhyaya-led Bench said the three-time Olympian had made out a prima facie case against the WFI’s Asian Games selection policy and the circular restricting participation in the trials to medal winners of select domestic events conducted in 2025 and 2026.

It observed that the policy framework failed to account for Phogat’s maternity-related sabbatical and post-partum recovery period, which coincided with the qualifying tournaments prescribed under the eligibility criteria.

“In the present case, the Appellant’s exclusion from the Selection Trials is directly attributable to the sabbatical and temporary retirement from her sporting activities,” the CJ Upadhyaya-led Bench held.

The order also strongly disapproved of the language used in the WFI’s show-cause notice issued to Phogat earlier this month, particularly its characterisation of her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024 final after failing the weigh-in as a “national embarrassment”.

Calling the remarks “deplorable”, the Delhi High Court said the observations appeared “pre-mediated” and “vindictive”, especially when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had already recorded that there was “no wrongdoing” on Phogat’s part.

“Such observations are retrograde and show the mala fide intent of Respondent No.1 (WFI) by being vindictive against the Appellant,” the CJ Upadhyaya-led Bench said.

Observing that motherhood and childbirth posed extraordinary physical challenges for female athletes, it stressed that institutional sporting frameworks could not remain oblivious to those realities.

“A legal and regulatory framework that either expressly or impliedly disadvantages a woman on account of pregnancy or post-partum recovery would clearly violate the principles of non-discrimination enshrined in Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution,” the Delhi High Court said.

It also took note of past WFI practices, including earlier guidelines permitting “iconic players” to participate in selection trials despite not satisfying standard eligibility conditions.

The order said that the revised policy marked a “significant deviation” from earlier practice and prima facie appeared arbitrary by limiting participation only to medal winners from specified competitions held during 2025 and 2026.

Allowing the appeal, the Delhi High Court directed that Phogat be permitted to participate in the selection trials, while clarifying that her participation would be subject to the outcome of the pending writ petition before the single-judge Bench.

It also directed the Union government to nominate two independent observers from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to oversee the trials and submit a report before the single judge hearing the main matter.

The CJ Upadhyaya-led Bench clarified that it had not expressed any final opinion on the merits of the case and that all issues relating to the validity of the WFI’s policy, selection criteria and show-cause notice would be decided in the pending writ petition.

Phogat had challenged the WFI’s Asian Games selection policy dated February 25, 2026, the selection circular issued on May 6, and the show-cause notice dated May 9, contending that they unfairly excluded her from the trials.

The wrestler argued that despite duly informing the International Testing Agency (ITA), United World Wrestling (UWW) and the SAI about her maternity-related sabbatical, she was rendered ineligible from participating in WFI events till June 26, 2026.

During the hearing, the WFI had opposed the plea, arguing that the policy and circular were uniformly applicable to all athletes and that the federation lacked discretion to carve out exemptions.

However, the CJ Upadhyay-led Bench said that if Phogat was not permitted to participate in the upcoming trials, the pending writ petition itself would become infructuous.

“In the interest of sport and justice… it is necessary that the Appellant is permitted to participate in the Selection Trials,” the order said.

Jaipur, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday that Rajasthan has immense potential to become a major hub for electronics manufacturing, highlighting the Centre's push to expand the sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Addressing industry representatives, investors and experts during a dialogue on the electronics and semiconductor sectors at the Chief Minister's Office in Jaipur, Union Minister Vaishnaw noted that India is rapidly advancing in electronics manufacturing and urged investors to confidently establish units in Rajasthan.

He said the Centre has paved the way for 450 factories in the electronics sector over the past two years.

Under the Electronic Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), approvals for 75 factories have been granted within a year, while the Union Cabinet has also increased budgetary support for the scheme.

Union Minister Vaishnaw assured investors that the Centre and the state government would provide full support to promote the sector and noted that electronics manufacturing would generate large-scale employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who attended the event alongside the Union Minister Vaishnaw, said India has joined the select group of nations capable of indigenous semiconductor production.

He highlighted that the India Semiconductor Mission is moving ahead at a rapid pace with an incentive package exceeding Rs 76,000 crore.

The Chief Minister said semiconductor chips have become crucial across sectors ranging from telecom and consumer electronics to defence and space technology.

He added that the future would belong to nations and states developing strong semiconductor capabilities.

Chief Minister Sharma said Rajasthan's first semiconductor cluster was inaugurated this month in Bhiwadi. Spread across 50 acres, the facility is expected to manufacture nearly six crore chips annually and has already attracted investment proposals worth more than Rs 1,200 crore from 20 companies.

Highlighting Rajasthan's advantages, the Chief Minister added that the state's "Triple-S Factor" -- Silica, Skill and Solar -- would emerge as a key strength for the semiconductor industry.

He said the Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy and Rajasthan Industrial Development Policy have been introduced to create a robust ecosystem, offering special incentives for semiconductor, data centre and defence manufacturing projects.

Under the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme (RIPS) 2024, industries are receiving financial and infrastructure support, including additional capital subsidies for projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission and interest subvention of up to five per cent on term loans.

The Chief Minister announced that work has begun to develop the Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar Industrial Area (JPMIA) and the Kakani region as the "Silicon Valley of Rajasthan".

According to CM Sharma, the region is being developed as an integrated industrial ecosystem for chip design, electronics manufacturing and system development.

He noted that Rajasthan's connectivity through the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and proximity to industrial hubs such as Bhiwadi, Neemrana and Kotputli provide strong logistics and supply-chain advantages.

He added that the state's Single Window Clearance System has been strengthened, enabling digital and time-bound approvals, including land allotment and project clearances.

Inviting investors to Rajasthan, CM Sharma said the state aims to build a $350-billion economy, with electronics and semiconductors expected to play a leading role.

Industry and Commerce Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said semiconductors have become the foundation of global economic strength and digital self-reliance.

He said the India Semiconductor Mission is progressing in "mission mode" and Rajasthan is among the most suitable states for such investments.

Minister Rathore added that the state government is offering electricity duty exemptions, stamp duty relief, capital subsidies, interest subvention and green initiative reimbursements for semiconductor-related projects, including OSAT and ATMP facilities.

"Customised incentive packages are also available for investments exceeding Rs 500 crore, while land allotment procedures have been made more transparent and efficient," he said.

The Defence Minister recalled that India previously demonstrated its tactical sharpness and lethal localised responses during Operation Sindoor to permanent-proof India against complex geopolitical vectors, the state is treating private defence firms as core strategic partners.

"Moving forward, the administration intends to aggressively extend the 'Make in India' mandate across all critical technologies. With the Shirdi manufacturing hub fully active, alongside a massive parallel ordnance development at Belwandi in Shrigonda taluka targeting 20,000 tonnes of annual explosive output, India is accelerating into a self-reliant powerhouse," Defence Minister Singh said.

The Defence Minister added, "Our government is continuously emphasising that 'Make in India' should be promoted in Critical Technologies and Advanced Systems so that India emerges as a frontrunner in munitions and automated systems, for which the government is ready to take every necessary step."

He also said, "Self-reliant India means a secure India, a capable India, and a powerful India."

He called for a unified industrial resolve to fully insulate the country's sovereign skies.

The Defence Minister spoke candidly about historical gaps, highlighting an era after Independence where state monopolies and rigid public units failed to match modern technological requirements.

"For a long time, our defence industry remained largely confined to public sector units and ordnance factories," Singh noted.

"Today, that barrier has fallen. The private sector is no longer just a supplier of nuts and bolts -- it is designing, innovating, and producing state-of-the-art weapon systems."

"Our goal is to take it up to 50 per cent in the coming years. This factory making artillery shells today, this missile complex, and this space complex are living proofs of this very transformation. This is the new India, where the Private Sector is no longer just a supplier of nuts and bolts, but is becoming the innovator and producer of entire advanced and state-of-the-art weapon systems," Singh said.

The Defence Minister noted: "Today, I am immensely proud to say that the efforts we have made are bearing fruit. Earlier, where the role of the Private Sector in defence production was negligible, today it has reached almost 25 to 30 per cent."

He pointed out that the private sector's inherent characteristics -- risk appetite, agility, rapid execution, and deep R&D imagination -- are introducing a massive inflow of investment into the Indian aerospace ecosystem.

The Prime Minister has been meeting Union ministers and MPs belonging to the BJP and its NDA allies.

In May last year, TDP Working President and Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, along with his family members, had called on the Prime Minister at his residence in New Delhi.

Lokesh, who holds the portfolios of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Real Time Governance and Human Resources Development, along with his wife Brahmani and their son Devansh, had paid a courtesy visit to PM Modi.

The Prime Minister had reportedly expressed his desire to meet Lokesh and his family after relaunching the Amaravati capital works on May 2, 2025.

During the meeting, PM Modi unveiled a coffee table book titled “Yuvagalam”, which chronicles the historic 3,132-km padayatra undertaken by Lokesh in the run-up to the 2024 elections that resulted in the NDA coalition’s historic victory in Andhra Pradesh.

Brahmani had designed the coffee table book. As a mark of appreciation, PM Modi signed a copy of the book and presented it to Lokesh.

May the bereaved families find strength in this tragic hour. Praying for the early and safe recovery of all remaining missing persons,” PM Modi wrote on X.

The coal mine accident in north China's Shanxi Province has left 82 dead, with nine others still trapped.

A gas explosion hit the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County at 7:29 pm on Friday, when more than 200 people were down the shaft, according to the county's emergency management bureau, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 123 people are receiving treatment at hospitals, including two in critical condition and two in serious condition, while 119 others sustained minor injuries.

Multiple rescue teams are taking turns going down the mining shaft.

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged all-out rescue of the missing and treatment of the injured and demanded a thorough investigation into the cause, with accountability pursued in accordance with the law.

The investigation team said it will thoroughly ascertain the cause of the accident, clarify the responsibilities of local authorities, industry regulators and the enterprise involved, and mete out strict penalties in accordance with laws and regulations.

Deadly accidents are common in China's coal mining industry, due to which safety standards have been tightened in recent years, but accidents still occur.

Earlier in 2025, three people were trapped following a coal mine accident in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The accident occurred when part of an underground tunnel collapsed in Zhenping County, in the city of Ankang. Eight workers were carrying out rectification work at the site when the collapse happened, with five of them managing to escape safely.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A packed courtroom, intense public scrutiny and a visibly calm demeanour marked the appearance of the accused Samarth Singh before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Anudita Gupta in Bhopal on Saturday, where he was sent to seven days of police remand in connection with the alleged suicide case of his wife Twisha Sharma.

Samarth was brought to the Magistrate court amid heavy police security, and as he stood in the dock, all eyes in the courtroom remained fixed on him, closely observing his expressions and conduct during the proceedings.

Despite the gravity of the allegations and mounting public attention surrounding the case, he appeared calm and composed throughout the hearing. He was seen interacting normally with his lawyers and showed no visible signs of nervousness or fear.

Notably, unlike his appearance before the Jabalpur District Court on Friday -- where he had covered his face with a mask and cap while surrendering -- Samarth appeared in the Bhopal court without concealing his face.

Twisha's brother Major Harshit Sharma, who was also present during the proceedings at very close distance, later claimed that Samarth displayed no remorse over his wife's death.

"I have not spoken to Samarth, nor did I express any desire to do so. However, there was absolutely no remorse visible on his face regarding his wife's death. There was no sign of grief over his wife's demise on his face when he appeared in court," Major Harshit Sharma said.

Harshit also added that the coming week would be critical after the court granted police seven days' custody of Samarth Singh.

"The court has remanded Samarth to custody for seven days; consequently, this coming week will be extremely crucial. We hope that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes over the case as soon as possible and initiates its investigation," he said talking to IANS.

Reiterating family of Twisha Sharma's demand for a CBI probe, Harshit alleged that the police had delayed action in the matter.

"Our only hope lies with the CBI, which is why we have been repeatedly demanding their intervention. Had the police done their job properly, it would not have taken this long to arrest Samarth," he added.

Though both Samarth Singh and Harshit Sharma remained present inside the same courtroom during the hearing, there was neither any conversation nor eye contact between them, IANS said.

The courtroom was crowded mainly with lawyers, many of whom knew Samarth personally as he practiced as a criminal defence lawyer at the Bhopal District Court. His prominence within the legal circles of Bhopal was further reinforced by the stature of his mother, Giribala Singh, who served in the same judicial institution in several capacities ranging from Magistrate to Principal District Judge before retiring in February 2023.

Giribala Singh has also been named a co-accused in the case related to Twisha Sharma's death.

Samarth Singh was arrested on Friday after surrendering before a court in Jabalpur, nearly 10 days after he allegedly went missing following Twisha Sharma's death, a case that has triggered widespread public attention across Madhya Pradesh.

Providing details on Saturday, Union Law Minister and Bikaner MP Arjun Ram Meghwal said HM Shah will arrive in Bikaner on the night of May 25 and stay there overnight.

On May 26, the Home Minister will chair a high-level meeting with senior officials to review border security, anti-infiltration measures and development works in the border region.

According to Meghwal, the meeting will focus on strengthening security arrangements, improving coordination among agencies and expanding infrastructure in border areas.

HM Shah is also scheduled to visit the Sanchu border outpost, where he will interact with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and take direct feedback on the prevailing security situation, operational challenges and future strategies.

Meghwal described the visit as strategically significant, saying discussions with the BSF and other security agencies would play an important role in assessing border management and development-related issues.

He said the Home Minister is expected to review existing security arrangements, anti-infiltration measures and coordination mechanisms among agencies operating along the border.

Discussions are also likely to cover development issues concerning border districts and local concerns.

In view of the proposed visit, the administration and police have put extensive security arrangements in place.

Chief Secretary V. Srinivas on Saturday reviewed security, coordination and administrative preparations related to HM Shah's visit to Bikaner and the upcoming Border Security Review Meeting.

The review meeting, held at the Secretariat, focused on strengthening security arrangements and enhancing coordination among agencies operating in Rajasthan’s border districts.

Srinivas directed all concerned departments and agencies to work in close coordination to ensure effective surveillance and robust security mechanisms in border areas.

He stressed the need for heightened vigilance in sensitive zones, faster intelligence-sharing and stronger joint operational systems.

A detailed review was also conducted on law and order in border districts, existing security arrangements, narcotics trafficking control measures, drone surveillance and inter-agency coordination.

Officials also discussed security infrastructure in sensitive areas, including police outposts, surveillance networks, CCTV coverage, communication systems and the Bharatmala corridor.

The Chief Secretary instructed officials to maintain effective monitoring and strengthen rapid response mechanisms to further reinforce the overall border security framework.

Senior officials from various departments and security agencies attended the meeting.

These included Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Shikhar Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary (PWD) Praveen Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Bhaskar Atmaram Sawant and Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma.

Representatives from the Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Department of Telecommunications, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) also participated.

District Collectors and Superintendents of Police from Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi joined the meeting through video conferencing.

Officials said the meeting was held ahead of HM Shah's proposed visit to ensure coordinated security preparedness and effective management of border-related issues.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A team of four senior doctors from the Forensic Medicine Department of AIIMS Delhi is scheduled to arrive in Bhopal on Saturday evening aboard a state-chartered aircraft to conduct a second autopsy on the body of a 33-year-old woman, currently preserved at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary.

The second autopsy will be conducted on Sunday morning.

In a significant development in the mysterious death case involving actress and model Twisha Sharma, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed a fresh autopsy by an expert medical board.

"We received the order and a request from Madhya Pradesh government officials to conduct the post-mortem examination on Sunday morning. Dr Sudhir Gupta, Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, constituted a medical board comprising four senior doctors from AIIMS Delhi, with the approval of the Director, to conduct the autopsy,” AIIMS Delhi said.

“The team, along with the latest instruments, will fly at 6 p.m. today on a state-chartered aircraft,” the statement added.

Following a formal request from the Madhya Pradesh government, a team of four experienced doctors was constituted for the examination.

Equipped with modern forensic instruments, the medical board will conduct a detailed examination and submit its findings to Dr Gupta, who will prepare the final report.

The second autopsy is expected to provide crucial clarity in the high-profile case that has drawn widespread public attention.

The development comes amid rapid progress in the investigation.

Twisha Sharma's husband, Samarth Singh, who had been absconding, withdrew his anticipatory bail plea before his arrest.

He was arrested and brought to Bhopal early on Saturday morning, reaching Katara Hills police station at around 2 a.m.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the police had secured a seven-day remand of Singh for detailed questioning.

In another twist, Samarth Singh's mother, Giribala Singh, a former judge and Chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court, has been served a notice seeking cancellation of her bail over alleged non-cooperation with the police investigation.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in the upscale Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.

The case has witnessed sharp contradictions in the narratives presented by both sides.

While the in-laws have claimed that Twisha was suffering from drug addiction, her family has alleged continuous harassment over dowry demands, which they claim led to her death.

The initial post-mortem examination had left several questions unanswered, prompting the High Court's intervention for a fresh examination by a neutral and expert medical board.

The arrival of the AIIMS Delhi team is being seen as a major step towards ensuring transparency and scientific rigour in the investigation.

Police officials expressed hope that the second autopsy, coupled with the ongoing interrogation of the arrested husband, would help uncover the truth behind the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma's death.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The cousin of alleged dowry death victim Twisha Sharma, on Saturday, claimed that her husband Samarth Singh who had "surrendered" a day before, did not display any emotions during court hearings in the case. However, the victim's cousin said that Singh's seven-day remand has given a "ray of hope" for justice.

Interacting with IANS, Twisha's cousin Ashish Sharma said: "We have usually seen that when a person dies, there is a sense of mourning not only within the deceased's family but even among the neighbours. Here, his conduct clearly reflects that he did not have any connection with her. I have even heard others discussing this in the court premises."

A day after the Madhya Pradesh government announced a CBI inquiry into the case, he added: "Even now the accused's family has not stopped using its influence. I believe CBI will carry out an impartial investigation to unmask the culprits."

Ashish Sharma asserted that the case needs to set a precedent that abuse of power against justice leads to dire consequences.

On the second post-mortem being allowed after 11 days, he said: "I think, maybe, many evidences might have got altered."

While clarifying that Samarth Singh being taken into custody is not the objective of the family, Ashish Sharma said: "It has given us a ray of hope. Since yesterday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has been completely impartial, and has followed the expected rule of law. These are very encouraging activities for us to regain our faith."

He also added: "When CBI arrests the culprits and those who have been harassing us, that would be considered as justice."

Twisha Sharma’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, asserted: "I will be satisfied only when we get final justice."

"The CBI should intervene during the seven-day remand of Samarth Singh and take over the investigation," he told IANS.

The victim's brother-in-law, Saurabh Sharma emphasised that the family has full faith on the CBI .

"We have to trust the CBI. From the first day, a lot of things have been taking place. There was a lot of influence from their (Samarth Singh's) side," he said.

He highlighted that since the victim's husband was absconding, no statements could be taken from him.

"Now we hope that the police will interrogate him (Samarth Singh) and bring the facts to light," he said.

About Samarth Singh being sent on seven-day remand, Saurabh Sharma termed it as a "positive sign" and that things are going in their way.

"We cannot bring the girl (Twisha Sharma), but at least we can stand up for her and bring justice," he said.

Coimbatore, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The incident of a 10-year-old girl being kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered near Sulur in Coimbatore district has shaken the entire state of Tamil Nadu, police said on Saturday.

The police have arrested two accused in the incident within 24 hours.

The girl, who lived with her parents in a village near Sulur, had gone to a nearby shop on Thursday evening but did not return home.

When the girl could not be found even after a long time, the worried parents searched the surrounding areas and filed a complaint at the Sulur police station.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and started an extensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the body of a girl was found in the bushes on the banks of the Kannampalayam pond near Sulur on Thursday night.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, murdered and dumped here.

Speaking to the media about the incident, Inspector General of Police (Western Region) R.V. Ramya Bharathi said that immediate action was taken after receiving the complaint.

Five special investigation teams were formed after registering the case.

As part of the investigation, the accused were identified after examining about 250 CCTV footage.

During the police investigation, the main accused was identified as Karthi (33), a native of Nagapattinam. He lived in Pallapalayam near Coimbatore and had separated from his wife.

The police said that Karthi was a daily wage earner and was known to the girl's family and lived nearby.

The police also arrested his accomplice, 30-year-old Mohanraj.

The investigating officers said that both were daily wage earners.

While the police were trying to catch Karthi, the police said that he tried to escape by jumping from the top floor of the building where he was hiding and in the process, he broke his leg and hand. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore government hospital.

The police said that a full post-mortem report is awaited and strict action will be taken against the accused under the POCSO Act.

The authorities have also said that steps have been taken to ensure government assistance to the affected family.

The police said that the culprits were arrested quickly and a charge sheet will be filed soon.

Rubio also shared his appreciation for India hosting the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and looked forward to advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region alongside Australia, India, and Japan.

The US Secretary of State called on Prime Minister Modi soon after his arrival in New Delhi. After the meeting, PM Modi said that both countries will continue to work closely for the global good.

We discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security. Rubio's India itinerary, scheduled from May 23 to 26 and also covering Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi, is being viewed as diplomatically significant because of planned energy discussions with India and meetings involving ministers from the Quad nations.

India is set to host the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on May 26. At the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will also be arriving in India to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting along with Rubio.

Addressing the gathering before inaugurating the US Embassy's Support Annex building in New Delhi, Rubio spotlighted the "important role" India plays in the US approach to the Indo-Pacific.

"It is a sign of our commitment to this important relationship between the United States and India. This relationship between our two countries is at the cornerstone of our approach to the Indo-Pacific," said Rubio.

Rubio recalled that the first major discussions he held after being sworn in as the US Secretary of State in January 2025 were during the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Washington DC, a grouping that also includes India.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Rubio had also met shortly after the Quad meeting, which was the first foreign policy engagement, not only for Rubio but also for the Trump administration in its second term.

"A lot of people aren't aware of this, but I was sworn in as Secretary of State on Tuesday, or Wednesday, it was a Tuesday after the inauguration. Within the hour, I was at the State Department, spoke briefly, as is tradition, in the lobby of that building to our staff. And then went immediately upstairs to the eighth floor. And my first meeting, my very first meeting officially as Secretary of State, was a meeting of the Quad. And we were going to renew that. We did it again last year in a second, in a different setting, and we chose to do it here," Rubio said on Saturday.

"We wanted to do it here, not just because of our commitment to that structure of work, but also as a tangible sign of what an important role India plays in the United States and in our posture and in our approach to the Indo-Pacific," he asserted.

He highlighted that "personal relationship" between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump continues to solidify the India-US ties.

"Anchoring that is the relationship between the President and the Prime Minister. It's a personal relationship that dates back to the first administration, when the President had a chance to visit here. And it has carried over into this second administration, and you can just see the connection between them. And I think that's incredibly important. It is. The connection between leaders is incredibly important. These are two very serious leaders that are focused not just on the short term, but on the long term," he said.

The US Secretary of State asserted that the partnership between Washington and New Delhi has deepened "in ways that don't often make headlines or aren't splashy", but are important and real and tangible and enduring.

"We've expanded commercial ties now with more than $20 billion in investments, $20 billion in investments from Indian companies in the United States. We've deepened a security partnership through military exercises in the Indo-Pacific. And of course, as part of that, we recognise that an orderly and a secure consular system is vital to solidifying this important relationship. That's why we're introducing a new America First visa scheduling tool that prioritises business professionals that strengthen these ties," Rubio stated.

He ended his remarks by reiterating that the partnership between US and India remains an "incredibly important" one.

Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) In fresh trouble for jailed Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Khan, an Uttar Pradesh court on Saturday enhanced the sentence of the former MP from seven years to 10 years and raised the penalty imposed on his son from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh in the latter's dual PAN card case.

The Special MP-MLA Court in Rampur also enhanced the penalty imposed on Azam Khan from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh, a lawyer said.

The court decision came in connection with the prosecution's appeal seeking sentence enhancement for the father-son duo serving seven years' imprisonment for the offence of Abdullah Khan possessing two PAN cards with different dates of birth (DOB), the lawyer added.

The former MP and his son were sentenced to seven years' jail each on November 17, 2025, after holding Abdullah Khan guilty of getting a second PAN card made with a wrong date of birth to increase his age on record, making him eligible to contest election.

Earlier, Azam Khan's appeal against his sentencing was dismissed by a court on April 20 this year while the decision on the prosecution's appeal seeking sentence enhancement was delivered on Saturday, the lawyer said.

The case was registered in Civil Lines police station in Rampur on a fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Akash Kumar Saxena on December 6, 2019.

He alleged that one of Abdullah's PAN cards recorded his DOB as January 1, 1993, and the other mentioned September 30, 1990.

After the court decision on Saturday, Saxena said, "This is a historic verdict, enhancing the sentence on an appeal. This is a rare case in which an appeal to increase a convict's sentence has been accepted by court."

Earlier, during the trial, the prosecution succeeded in proving in court that Abdullah Khan, a former MLA, indulged in forgery to qualify for contesting an election and Azam Khan was part of the larger conspiracy.

The prosecution said that Abdullah was underage and did not meet the requirement for a minimum age to contest an election. To increase his age in records, he used a fake DOB and got a second PAN card made.

At the time of the court judgment on November 17 last year, Azam Khan had barely stepped out of jail in another matter.

Complainant Saxena alleged that forged documents were used to prepare the PAN cards that were used for electoral purposes and filing income tax documents.

The Rozgar Mela was organised simultaneously at 47 locations across the country as part of the Centre’s employment generation initiative aimed at providing government job opportunities to youths in various ministries and departments.

Speaking to IANS in Delhi, several newly recruited candidates shared their excitement after receiving appointment letters.

One of the recruits said, “Prime Minister Modi’s speech was very inspiring and motivating. I felt really happy to be present here. We worked hard for this moment, and our families also made many sacrifices. I am extremely happy today.”

Another candidate said, “I am grateful to everyone. Finally, I have reached this stage and received an appointment letter from the Government of India.”

In Punjab, the 19th Rozgar Mela was organised at Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW). During the programme, Prime Minister Modi addressed newly appointed candidates virtually from across the country.

At the Patiala event, a total of 188 candidates from various departments of the Government of India received appointment letters. The letters were distributed by Principal Chief Administrative Officer (PCAO) Sushil Kumar Srivastava. Among the selected candidates, 126 will serve in different trades at Patiala Locomotive Works.

Meanwhile, in Kolkata, the Rozgar Mela was held at Dr B.C. Roy Auditorium in Sealdah, where appointment letters were distributed to 188 candidates.

The event was attended by senior railway officials along with political leaders, including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar.

Kaushik Singh, who was appointed as a junior engineer in the electrical department, said, “This is a new beginning for me. I am grateful for the appointment letter I received today.”

Another candidate, Tamalpal, expressed joy after receiving the appointment letter and said he was proud to serve Indian Railways.

In Siliguri, the Rozgar Mela was organised at NJP Kashmir Colony. The event was attended by Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Roy, Siliguri MLA Shikha Chatterjee, Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman, and Phansidewa MLA Durga Murmu.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan was also present at the venue and encouraged the selected candidates while praising the Centre’s employment initiative.

Senior railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of Katihar Division, also attended the programme. A total of 81 candidates received appointment letters during the Siliguri event.

In Kharagpur, the Rozgar Mela was held at the Multi-Disciplinary Zonal Training Institute (MDZTI)/Supervisors’ Training Centre (STC), where around 142 appointment letters were distributed.

The programme was attended by Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur and West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh.

The dignitaries congratulated the recruits and praised the Centre’s efforts towards generating large-scale employment opportunities for youths.

One of the recruits in Kharagpur said, “I am very happy after getting this job. I am grateful to the government.”

Another candidate said, “I am from Kharagpur and have received a Group C, Level 1 posting. I am extremely happy to receive this appointment letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

In Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, several youths also expressed happiness after receiving appointment letters. One candidate said, “I felt honoured that Prime Minister Modi interacted with us virtually and shared important thoughts with us.”

Another recruit said, “I sincerely thank the Government of India for providing such opportunities to the youth. My parents are very proud of me today.”

Union Minister Jual Oram, who attended the Bhubaneswar programme, congratulated the selected candidates and said the country was progressing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

Dantewada, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Security forces in Chhattisgarh achieved a major success in the ongoing campaign against Maoist activities after recovering and safely destroying a pressure cooker IED (Improvised Explosive Device) weighing around five kg in the dense forest area of Hidpal village under the Barsur police station limits.

Police officials said the timely detection and neutralisation of the IED prevented what could have turned into a major tragedy involving security personnel as well as local civilians.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs received on Saturday, a joint team comprising the District Police, the ‘Young Platoon’ and the Bomb Disposal Squad of the 195th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon and search operation in the hilly and forested areas around Hidpal village, officials said.

The operation began early in the morning at around 5 a.m. under the guidance of Second-in-Command Vikrant Verma and Assistant Commandant Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The teams moved cautiously through the difficult terrain, focusing on areas considered vulnerable to Naxalite presence and hidden explosive devices.

During the intensive search operation at around 8.20 a.m., security personnel spotted a suspicious object concealed inside the forest area.

Showing high alertness and strictly following safety protocols, the personnel immediately cordoned off the area and called in experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Upon careful examination, the suspicious object was confirmed to be a pressure cooker IED allegedly planted by Maoists with the intention of targeting security personnel and creating fear among local residents.

Using specialised technical procedures, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) successfully neutralised and destroyed the explosive device on the spot without any untoward incident.

The timely action by the security forces averted a potentially devastating attack.

Additional search operations were later conducted in nearby sensitive areas to ensure complete area domination and rule out the presence of any other hidden explosives.

The entire operation concluded successfully at around 10.55 a.m., with all officers and personnel returning safely to their respective base camps.

No casualties or injuries were reported during the operation.

Reacting to Ghose’s post on X, Malviya accused her of spreading misinformation and deliberately distorting facts.

In his X post, Malviya said that Sagarika Ghosh, Mamata Banerjee’s stooge, is a habitual disinformation peddler.

He further claimed that apart from the fact that “US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited ‘Mother House’ in Kolkata,” every other statement made by Ghose was “a blatant falsehood.”

Calling the remarks “a deliberate and malicious attempt,” Malviya alleged that Ghose was trying to “spread disinformation, malign the Government of India, and mislead people through a complete distortion of facts.”

The BJP leader then listed what he described as the “hard facts” regarding the legal status of the Missionaries of Charity under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

“The Missionaries of Charity is registered under FCRA and continues to hold an active FCRA registration,” he said.

Malviya further stated, “The validity of the FCRA registration is till 31-12-2026.”

He also clarified that, “No application concerning its FCRA status is pending as on date.”

Escalating his criticism, Malviya said, “Sagarika Ghose cannot be allowed to brazenly spread falsehoods and evade scrutiny.”

He further alleged that her comments were “a deliberate attempt to tarnish Bharat’s image through misinformation.”

Calling her conduct “reprehensible,” the BJP leader said it “deserves to be called out unequivocally.”

He concluded by stating that, “As a public figure holding a tax-funded position, she must be held accountable for her statements and conduct.”

The controversy erupted after Sagarika Ghose posted on X about Marco Rubio’s visit to the Missionaries of Charity headquarters founded by Mother Teresa in Kolkata.

In her post, Ghose wrote, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Missionaries of Charity’s Mother House in Kolkata, saluting their exemplary globally renowned humanitarian service.”

She then accused the Narendra Modi government of hypocrisy, writing, “SHEER HYPOCRISY of @narendramodi government on display.”

Calling the Centre “anti-Christian,” Ghose alleged that the government, “through new proposed FCRA bill had barred Missionaries of Charity from receiving foreign aid.”

She further claimed that the government “is enabling seizure of Church assets,” and added that such measures were “destroying the ability of Christian institutions to do the humanitarian, massive educational and healthcare providing service they are known for.”

Ghose concluded her post by alleging that despite these actions, the government was “now show casing our revered Mother Teresa’s organisation for the international visitor.”

India and Canada aim to ⁠reach $50 billion in bilateral trade over the next ⁠five years.

In a news briefing, Goyal said India expects to sign a free ​trade agreement (FTA) with ‌Canada, covering sectors such as energy and critical minerals. The discussion would also focus on cooperation in technology, food processing, clean energy and critical minerals.

According to the minister, Canadian pension funds and companies have invested nearly $100 billion in India.

Nearly 600 Canadian companies ‌operate in India, with both sides aiming to ​raise that number to 1,000, he informed. Both countries have ‌renewed discussions on a broader trade deal and maintain strong ties in ​agriculture, energy, education and technology.

Goyal is leading a delegation of Indian business leaders with engagements in Ottawa on May 25 and a two-day programme in Toronto from May 26 to 27.

The visit carries forward the mandate given by the Prime Ministers of India and Canada during Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to India in March 2026, and seeks to impart renewed momentum to bilateral engagement across trade, investment, energy, technology, and people-to-people ties.

A central focus of the visit is the advancement of India–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations.

The Terms of Reference were signed during Prime Minister Carney's visit to India in March 2026.

The first round of negotiations was conducted virtually in March and the second round concluded on May 8.

During this visit, a further round of negotiations will be conducted in Ottawa from May 25 to 29. Both sides are working towards an early conclusion of a balanced and mutually beneficial CEPA by end of 2026, with a shared ambition to expand bilateral trade to Canadian dollar 70 billion (approximately Rs 4.65 lakh crore) by 2030.

Bilateral trade stands at $8.5 billion in FY25, with significant potential for expansion across sectors.

Accompanied by his wife, Jeanette Rubio, the US Secretary of State visited Mother House, the headquarters of Saint Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata.

Rubio was the first US Secretary of State to visit Kolkata since Hillary Clinton travelled to the city in May 2012. His visit comes only weeks after West Bengal witnessed a major political change with a BJP-led government assuming power in the state

Rubio's India itinerary, scheduled from May 23 to 26 and also covering Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi, is being viewed as diplomatically significant because of planned energy discussions with India and meetings involving ministers from the Quad nations.

India is set to host the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on May 26. At the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will also be arriving in India to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting along with Rubio.

Ahead of his visit to India, Rubio said that Washington wants to expand energy ties with New Delhi and deepen coordination through the Quad, while describing India as a "great ally" and "great partner" amid global supply disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

A senior official said that in the true spirit of jointmanship and commitment towards the safety and welfare of youths, 132 NCC cadets who attended the NCC North Eastern Region (NER) Flying Camp in Imphal from May 11 to May 20, 2026, are undergoing emergency evacuation to Guwahati and Jorhat by the IAF amid the prevailing security situation and restrictions on road movement in Manipur.

“The evacuation has been planned by the NCC NER Directorate in consultation with the Headquarters Director General NCC and in coordination with the Headquarters Eastern Air Command,” the official said.

He said that the swift and timely action ensured that the cadets safely reached their destinations in time for their examinations, bringing immense relief and happiness to their parents and family members.

“The NCC cadets have also conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the care, support and timely assistance extended to them. Special thanks have been extended to the Defence Minister, the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Air Force for their unwavering support,” the official added.

In a post on its X handle, the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region said: “Safe, united and resilient! NCC cadets from the Northeast expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Defence, IAF and NCC Directorate for the swift airlift operation carried out during challenging circumstances in Manipur.”

“The successful evacuation reflects the spirit of teamwork, care and unwavering commitment towards cadet welfare and national unity,” the post added. In another post, the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region said: “The Indian Air Force provided timely airlift assistance to NCC cadets stranded in Imphal after the completion of the Air Wing NCC Camp on May 20, 2026.”

It stated that in view of the prevailing situation in Manipur, cadets from Jorhat and Guwahati were unable to travel back home by road.

“The IAF conducted a special airlift operation on May 23 comprising three AN-32 aircraft, evacuating 60 cadets to Jorhat and 72 cadets to Guwahati. The prompt support extended by the IAF has provided solace and comfort to the anxious parents,” the NCC Directorate said.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Samarth Singh, husband of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma and the prime accused in her alleged suicide case, was sent to seven days of police remand by a Bhopal district court on Saturday. He was produced before the court amid tight security, a day after being taken into custody from Jabalpur.

Prior to his court appearance, Samarth was taken to Jai Prakash (J.P.) Hospital for a mandatory medical examination under police supervision. He was later brought to the district court in a heavily guarded convoy.

A large police deployment was made at the court premises to manage the crowd and prevent any untoward incident, given the public attention surrounding the case. Samarth was escorted into the courtroom of Judicial Magistrate Anudita Gupta under tight security.

He was produced around 3:15 p.m., following which the court granted police custody remand for seven days.

Police had sought custodial remand to facilitate further interrogation in connection with Twisha Sharma’s death.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh said Samarth was brought to Bhopal late on Friday night after being detained in Jabalpur.

He added that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have assisted Samarth while he remained untraceable for about 10 days after the incident.

“If it is found that someone provided him shelter or helped him evade arrest, action will be taken against them as well,” he said.

Samarth Singh had been missing since May 12, the day Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home under the Katara Hills police station area.

The case sparked public outrage, with allegations of dowry harassment against her husband and in-laws.

Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma's family on Saturday welcomed the decision of a CBI probe and demanded a speedy investigation along with a fast-track trial to ensure quick justice to the young woman and her family.

Speaking to IANS, Twisha Sharma’s cousin said that action in the case had been delayed initially, but recent developments in the judiciary had raised hopes for a fair investigation. “Overall, we feel that the action taken in the case was quite delayed. However, the judiciary has recently taken several important decisions. Permission has now been granted, and the court has also observed that the bail granted to Giribala Singh was taken in haste. I welcome this decision of CBI probe and hope that the CBI will investigate the matter properly and without delay,” the cousin said.

Following specific Intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in Dorimal forest area of Rajouri, security forces started a cordon and search operation.

“As the security forces closed in on the hiding terrorists, they opened fire, after which an encounter started which is now going on.

“Reinforcements have been rushed in to plug all exit points of the hiding terrorists”, an official said.

The two border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have witnessed a significant surge in counter-terror operations and encounters since the area has served as the primary infiltration and revival corridor for terrorists in the past.

Security forces have launched extensive, multi-agency combing and search operations to track down armed groups hiding in the dense, mountainous terrain.

In May 2026, a massive, multi-area search operation was started at over 15 locations across the Poonch and Rajouri districts.

These searches followed a foiled infiltration bid in the Mankote and Krishna Ghati sectors along the Line of Control (LoC), where an infiltrator was killed by security forces.

In March 2026, joint forces launched multiple combing operations in the Khandli and Palma areas of Rajouri, as well as areas of Poonch, following the reported movement of suspected terrorists.

During 2025, encounters broke out in the Bananthab and Piranhal areas of Rajouri as security forces intensified efforts to corner infiltrating groups.

A major operation in the Bajimaal forest area of Rajouri successfully eliminated highly trained terrorists operating in the region.

In September 2023, joint forces carried out a heavy, multi-day firefight in the Rajouri sector. The operation resulted in the killing of two heavily-armed terrorists after intense combing operations in challenging terrain.

In April–May 2023, these two districts experienced deadly terrorist ambushes and encounters. An attack on an Army vehicle in the Poonch sector, followed by an encounter in the Kandi forest area of Rajouri, resulted in casualties to Army personnel and triggered a massive regional manhunt, designated 'Operation Trinetra'.

In 2021-2022, a prolonged series of search operations and ambushes occurred throughout the twin districts, most notably in the dense forests of Mendhar and Surankote.
