Dubai, March 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the final prize money distribution for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, confirming that champions India will receive USD 2.63 million from the tournament’s USD 11.25 million players’ prize pool.

India secured the title after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, capping off a successful campaign that also delivered a record financial reward. The prize purse reflects the major increase in ICC tournament prize money announced in 2024.

According to the ICC, the champions will receive USD 2,639,423, significantly higher than the payout awarded in the previous edition of the tournament in 2024. Runners-up New Zealand will take home USD 1,422,692 for finishing second, while losing semi-finalists South Africa and England will earn USD 1,005,577 and USD 974,423, respectively.

Four teams, the West Indies, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, who made it to the Super 8s but failed to progress to the knockouts, earned USD 538,269 mn, USD 522,692 mn, USD 491,538 mn, and USD 475,962 mn, respectively.

Meanwhile, teams that reached the Super 8 stage but did not progress further, including Afghanistan, Australia and the United States, were each awarded USD 309,808 mn.

Among the remaining participants, Scotland received USD 278,654 mn, and Ireland earned USD 271,731 mn. Meanwhile, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Nepal were each awarded USD 256,154 mn.

Teams that exited in the earlier stages of the tournament, Canada, Namibia and Oman, will each receive the base participation payment of USD 225,000 mn.

The ICC confirmed that all listed figures represent the gross prize money earned by teams across the group stage, Super 8s, semi-finals and the final. The amounts include base participation payments, bonuses for match wins and rewards for progression through the tournament stages.

However, the governing body clarified that the figures are calculated "before any applicable tax compliance or deductions."

It added the record prize pool "reflects the base participation payment that each team receives (USD 225,000), final team placements, win bonuses and progression through each stage of the tournament."

Mumbai, March 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared a massive cash reward of Rs. 131 crore for the Indian Team after their victorious run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The Men in Blue, who defended their T20 World Cup title at home, becoming the first team to do so, received Rs. 125 crore in 2024 following their victory in the prestigious tournament. The BCCI's cash reward increased by six crore rupees from 2024, when Rohit Sharma led the side to their first win since the inaugural edition.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future," the BCCI said in their statement.

By successfully defending the title, India became the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup thrice and also the first team to win it at home.

Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian side also received a substantial financial reward from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after their title triumph. After registering a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final, India claimed the winner’s purse of USD 2.34 million (approximately Rs 21.5 crore) awarded by the International Cricket Council. The runners-up, New Zealand, received USD 1.17 million (around Rs 10.75 crore).

The hosts dominated the title clash from the very beginning, piling up a record total of 253 for five in a World T20 final. The innings was powered by a blistering 89 from Sanju Samson, which set the tone for India’s commanding performance.

India’s bowlers then sealed the triumph in emphatic fashion, with Jasprit Bumrah producing a sensational spell of four wickets for 14 runs, his best figures in the format. The comprehensive win secured India their third ICC Men's T20 World Cup crown and made them the first team to retain the title while also winning it on home soil.

Samson finished the tournament as the Player of the Series after scoring 321 runs in just five innings, while Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his decisive performance in the final.

Mumbai, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated Team India on winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India secured a resounding 96-run victory in the summit clash to lift the trophy in front of a packed home crowd.

India’s triumph marks a historic achievement as the team successfully defends the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title, becoming the first side in the history of the tournament to retain the trophy. The victory also carries special significance as India become the first nation to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on home soil, making the occasion even more memorable for millions of fans.

Led superbly by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team displayed a brand of fearless and dynamic cricket throughout the tournament. Combining explosive batting, disciplined bowling and outstanding fielding, the team maintained consistency across all phases of the competition and rose to the occasion in the most demanding moments.

The BCCI also appreciated head coach Gautam Gambhir and the entire support staff for their leadership, planning and preparation that helped shape a confident and well-balanced side capable of performing under pressure.

“The Board also commends the Men’s Selection Committee for identifying and backing a group of players who combined experience with youthful energy, resulting in a formidable squad that delivered on the biggest stage. The BCCI also thanks all its affiliated State Associations for their continued contribution in helping achieve this vision,” BCC said in a statement.

Congratulating the team, BCCI president Mithun Manhas said, “Winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a moment of immense pride for the entire nation. To defend the title and achieve this feat on home soil makes it even more special. The team played outstanding cricket throughout the tournament under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and the guidance of Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. I congratulate every member of the squad, the coaching staff and the selectors for this remarkable accomplishment.”

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “Indian cricket is currently in its golden phase. India hosted two major ICC events — the ICC Women’s World Cup last year and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup — and to emerge champions in both is simply remarkable. This success is also a reflection of the strong foundations laid over the years through progressive planning and vision. The contributions of Mr Jay Shah during his tenure in strengthening Indian cricket’s structures and global standing have played a significant role in shaping this era of excellence. Kudos to Captain Suryakumar Yadav and his fearless group, the team management led by Gautam Gambhir and the selectors for building a balanced side capable of excelling on the world stage yet again."

Rajeev Shukla, vice-president, BCCI, said, “This victory is the result of collective effort, meticulous preparation and the commitment shown by the players and support staff throughout the tournament. The team has displayed remarkable composure and confidence in high-pressure situations, a hallmark of champion sides. To win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in front of our home fans makes the moment even more special and memorable. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of ICC Chair Mr Jay Shah, whose strong leadership continues to strengthen the global growth of the game. We thank the ICC for organising such a wonderful tournament that showcased the very best of T20 cricket. This triumph will remain a historic milestone for Indian cricket and a source of immense pride for the entire nation.”

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India captain Suryakumar Yadav visited the historic Adalaj Ni Vav on Monday, where he posed with the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 trophy following India’s title-winning campaign.

Images shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) showed the Indian skipper at the intricately designed stepwell, one of Gujarat’s most renowned heritage landmarks, located near Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The 15th-century structure, known for its elaborate carvings and architectural design, has long attracted tourists and history enthusiasts.

Suryakumar’s visit came a day after India’s emphatic victory over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final. The Indian team sealed the title with a commanding 96-run win at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, successfully defending the trophy and further cementing their dominance in the shortest format.

The stepwell also holds recent cricketing significance. Ahead of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final, former India captain Rohit Sharma and Australia skipper Pat Cummins had posed for a photoshoot at the same location.

Despite the tournament celebrations continuing across the country, Suryakumar appeared to take a moment to explore the historic monument. Photographs from the visit showed him walking through the stepwell’s ornate corridors and admiring the detailed stonework while holding the World Cup trophy.

His presence drew large crowds to the site, with fans gathering around the stepwell and nearby streets for a glimpse of the Indian captain and the coveted trophy. Many spectators were seen lining terraces and vantage points around the monument in hopes of witnessing the moment up close.

In the final, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket venue, India defeated New Zealand in front of a packed crowd to claim their second consecutive T20 World Cup title, also becoming the first team to win a home World Cup and the first team to clinch a record third title.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has heaped praise on the current Indian side following its historic victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, calling the team the best white-ball unit and lauding the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

India clinched the title after defeating New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to win three Men’s T20 World Cup titles while also successfully defending the trophy.

Speaking to reporters in Ahmedabad after the victory, Pathan said the current Indian team has established itself as the most dominant white-ball side.

“There is no doubt that this is the best white-ball team,” Pathan told reporters here in Ahmedabad.

He credited Suryakumar’s leadership and Gambhir’s role in building a strong and united unit that has consistently delivered results on the global stage.

“The way Suryakumar Yadav captained and the way Gautam Gambhir brought the team together was remarkable,” he said.

Pathan also highlighted Gambhir’s humility in acknowledging the contributions of other key figures in Indian cricket, noting that the head coach had openly credited those who played a role in shaping the team.

“What impressed me the most was how Gautam gave credit to everyone — Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. It shows that his heart is very clean,” Pathan said.

According to Pathan, Gambhir’s attitude reflects the importance of clear intentions and teamwork in achieving success at the highest level.

“When your heart is pure and your intentions are right, you get the results. Indian cricket has got the result. All of you also prayed for it, there is no doubt about that,” he said.

India’s latest triumph also marked their second consecutive T20 World Cup title, following their victory in 2024, further cementing the team’s dominance in the shortest format.

Pathan said the team’s back-to-back successes have brought immense joy to former players who continue to follow Indian cricket closely.

“The way we are winning back-to-back World Cups now, I think for us former cricketers who have played the game and remain connected to Indian cricket, it feels very good and brings peace to the heart,” he added.

The former all-rounder concluded by saying that celebrations among past and present members of the Indian cricket fraternity will continue whenever the national team achieves such milestones.

“Whenever the Indian team wins the World Cup, our celebrations and dancing will continue,” Pathan said.

New Delhi, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India players Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma reflected on their side’s historic triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, with the duo recalling the team’s resilience and unity after lifting the trophy following a commanding win over New Zealand in the final on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the two players spoke candidly about the emotions surrounding India’s title-winning campaign and the journey that led to the moment.

Kishan highlighted the significance of the victory, noting that the host nation had never previously won the tournament before India’s triumph.

“Hosting nation never won the World Cup, and here we are. We played with all our hearts. We worked out throughout the tournament, we were in a very good headspace, we backed each other and that’s what India team is all about. It was the last time at the 2023 World Cup; I was there, and we were all crying in the dressing room. But this is how things turn around. We played a very good game, credit goes to everyone, support staff, and everyone who was with us, and today here we are, lifting the trophy and we hope to do it again,” Kishan said in a bcci.tv video.

Abhishek, who played a key role during the tournament, described the moment of winning the World Cup as the pinnacle of his career so far.

“One of the best. It’s the top of the moment,” Abhishek said. Kishan also praised his teammate for maintaining a positive attitude even during difficult phases in the competition. “Look at this champion. You don’t get runs, it doesn’t matter. Be in a good headspace. First of all, even when he was not scoring runs, he was always there to help each other,” he said.

Reflecting on his personal struggles earlier in the tournament, Abhishek credited the team environment and support staff for helping him stay confident.

“If you would have told me that we’re winning the cup and getting the last wicket as well, then I would have been suffering through that days because it wasn’t easy for me. But I think the team, coaches, everyone, the way they were treating me, the way they were helping me throughout, I didn’t feel alone at all for a single day. Because you never feel this in the team. When you’re not scoring well, you’re doing well throughout the year and then suddenly…I’m very proud of the team,” an emotional and overwhelmed Abhishek said.

Kishan once again acknowledged his teammate’s contribution after the victory. “But he’s always there to help others, and he got the result today, so proud of him,” he added. Abhishek, in turn, returned the praise while reflecting on the dream of lifting a World Cup trophy for India.

“I’m proud of him! It’s a dream come true because I saw the last World Cup at home, I was really proud of the team, 2024 as well, and winning the World Cup for your team and doing well, throughout the journey…it was something to remember.”

New Delhi, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) A heartwarming exchange between two of Indian cricket’s most prominent figures, MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir, caught the attention of fans after India’s triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad.

For years, cricket fans have discussed the relationship between Dhoni and Gambhir, especially after Gambhir’s past comments about Dhoni’s iconic match-winning six in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup Final against Sri Lanka. However, their recent celebrations after India’s latest world title seemed to reflect a more relaxed and friendly exchange.

Dhoni, who watched the final at Narendra Modi Stadium, later posted on Instagram to congratulate the team and sent a playful message to Gambhir, now India’s head coach.

"History gets created at Ahmedabad, big congratulations to the team and support staff and to all the fans of the Indian Cricket Team worldwide. Such a pleasure to see all of you play. Coach Sahab, smile looks great on you. Intensity with smile is a killer combo, very well done. Enjoy guys (BUMRAH ke baare mein kuch na likhoon tou hi acha hai. CHAMPION BOWLER)," Dhoni captioned the post.

Gambhir, who is celebrating his first ICC T20 WC title as head coach, responded warmly to the former India captain’s comment, writing, "And what a reason to smile, great seeing you."

Dhoni was present at the stadium for the summit clash and even joined Rohit Sharma, the captain who led India to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 title, during the post-match celebrations, walking out with the trophy following India’s emphatic victory.

India sealed the championship with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand after putting up a formidable total of 255/5 in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson spearheaded the batting charge with a blistering 89 off 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan contributed half-centuries to power India to one of the highest totals in a T20 World Cup final.

The bowlers then wrapped up the contest in clinical fashion, dismissing New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs to complete a dominant campaign.

With the triumph, India captain Suryakumar Yadav joined an elite group of leaders to have guided the country to an ICC title. Across senior men’s and women’s cricket, only Kapil Dev, Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Harmanpreet Kaur have clinched an ICC title for the nation.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said his comeback midway through the victorious 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup was sparked by words from head coach Gautam Gambhir, who told him to be ready for playing the Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe.

Samson didn’t get to play a game in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup win, and featured in the league stage clash against Namibia in New Delhi, as Abhishek Sharma was recovering from stomach infection. He got redrafted into the playing eleven from the Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe.

But it was from the must-win clash against the West Indies, where he hit an unforgettable 97 not out, that Samson lit up the World Cup with knocks of 89 in the semi-final against England and then in the final against New Zealand. Overall, Samson amassed 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and strike-rate of 199.37 and was adjudged Player of the Tournament, as India won their third title.

"I met Gauti bhai in the gym before the Zimbabwe game, and that's where he told me, 'Sanju, be ready, you are going to play the next game.' I was 100 per cent ready. In my mind, I said, 'Yes, now let's do the talking, this is what I was waiting for,'” said Samson to JioStar at the conclusion of the final, where India won by 96 runs.

He also talked about how he doesn’t like competing alongside his team-mates for spots in the playing eleven. “But I would like to share something very honest, I don't like to compete with my teammates in the squad. Once we are together fighting for a cause, then I bring out my best.

“During the New Zealand series, it was always about, 'Will I be part of the team or not?' I never perform well when I am fighting for places. But when the opportunity came, we were together fighting for one goal, the World Cup, so I'm glad things worked out in the end."

Talking about his emotions while experiencing a roller-coaster ride - from sitting on the bench in the 2024 edition win to winning the Player of the Tournament in the 2026 edition, Samson was at his unplugged best. "It was in my mind, but when we were playing the World Cup in the West Indies a year and a half ago, I was thinking, visualising and practising to do something like this.

“But after the New Zealand series, I thought my dreams were shattered. I think God had his own plans and I'm so grateful. I was broken after the New Zealand series and I let myself feel that I was broken. I was absolutely not moving from my bed for four to five days.

“I couldn't bat. I was completely out of the system. I wasn't happy and I behaved like I wasn't happy. I let myself feel the emotions. So, I accepted the fact that I didn't use the opportunities I got. I was realistic with myself. I didn't fight those emotions and I didn't pretend to be confident. Once I accepted the fact, I could recover a bit quicker."

India bowler Varun Chakaravarthy, who ended as the joint leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps, said the triumph is amongst the top moments in his cricketing career and credited Gambhir and skipper Suryakumar Yadav for telling him that he would play in the final despite enduring expensive outings.

"Definitely among the top moments of my career, because it’s the World Cup. No team has won it back-to-back and no hosting nation has won it, so it has to rank among the best. It feels like my life has come full circle because when I started cricket at 26, it felt too late, but now I have just won a World Cup for the country and it feels surreal.

“There are two things. These are super batter-friendly wickets, so it was a little challenging for me, but on the other hand I was able to pick up wickets here and there, which was crucial from my side.

“Secondly, credit has to go to Surya and Gauti bhai, they never even had an iota of doubt that I wouldn't play in the final. They told me, 'Even if you go for 60 in four overs for the next 10 matches, you are going to play,'” he said.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan also touched on how the Indian team Chakaravarthy despite a dip in his form after the league stage. "We always believed that no matter what, he would come good. Even the best bowlers go for runs and that doesn't matter to us as a team.

“We have to believe in each other and Varun, the quality he showed throughout the tournament and even before the tournament, is a tremendous bowler. It's just about being in the right headspace and bowling the right balls.

“He did that over and over again and a few matches here and there, none of us mind. Every batter doesn't get runs on each and every day, it's the same thing with bowlers. He came out with good intent in the final and bowled with all his heart."

Kishan signed off by touching upon his journey of re-entering the Indian team after 2023. "To be very honest, the moment I got out of the team, it was a long journey for me. Coming from domestic cricket, making it back to the team, playing this tournament and winning the championship, it's been a rollercoaster.

“I think we need to win more of these championships because these are the moments I will never forget in my life. I'm very happy, and so is the team, and we'll want to do it again and again."

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Cricket is a game rich in statistics, folklore and superstition. Over the years, fans have delighted in spotting patterns that seem too curious to ignore. One such enduring cricketing quirk has quietly taken root in Indian cricket: whenever India wins a men’s World Cup, there is always a Malayalee presence in the squad.

The pattern began with India’s historic triumph at the 1983 Cricket World Cup under Kapil Dev. Among the squad members was Kerala fast bowler Sunil Valson. Although Valson did not get a chance to play a single match during the tournament, his presence in the team became a footnote in Indian cricket folklore once India lifted the trophy at Lord’s.

Nearly a quarter century later, the curious pattern resurfaced when India won the inaugural 2007 ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa. This time the Malayalee presence was far more visible. Fiery pacer S. Sreesanth played an important role in the tournament and was memorably under the high ball when he completed the catch that sealed India’s dramatic final victory.

The same Kerala connection continued when India clinched the 2011 Cricket World Cup on home soil. Sreesanth was once again part of the squad, reinforcing what fans jokingly began calling a “Malayalee lucky charm” in India’s World Cup campaigns.

The pattern resurfaced in the modern T20 era as well. When India won the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Kerala wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson was part of the victorious squad.

And in the latest chapter of this curious cricketing tale, Samson once again found himself at the centre of India’s triumph at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This time, however, it was not just a symbolic presence.

The stylish batter delivered three consecutive match-winning knocks during the knockout stages, helping propel India to the title.

The unusual trend even caught the attention of former India coach and commentator Ravi Shastri during the broadcast, who pointed out the Kerala connection with amusement.

Whether coincidence, superstition or simply a charming cricketing quirk, the so-called "Malayalee luck charm" has now become another delightful chapter in India’s rich World Cup folklore.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India's left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma credited teammate Shivam Dube for helping him rediscover his form in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup final, revealing that he used the all-rounder bat during his blistering knock of 52 off 21 balls that set up India’s emphatic 96-run triumph over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

"I batted with Shivam Dube’s bat, so thank you, Dube. In the morning, I felt like trying something different. Shubman (Gill) was not around, so I walked up to Dube and picked his bat," said Abhishek to reporters in a post-match press conference.

Apart from dealing with a stomach infection and its aftereffects, Abhishek had struggled through the tournament with just 89 runs in the run-up to the decider. But on Sunday, he turned the tide with a 21-ball 52, including getting his fifty in 18 balls and laid the foundation for India to lift their third Men’s T20 World Cup title.

Reflecting on his struggles in the last one month, Abhishek said the backing from his team helped him immensely. “I have been dealing with this phase for the last month after having a dream run for about a year and a half. One thing matters a lot in such situations – the company you keep.

“If the people around you want to help you become better, it makes a big difference. When I was not contributing with the bat, everyone in the team still believed in me. They kept saying, ‘He will do it’. I never doubted my teammates, coaches or the support staff.

“The only question I had was why things were not working for me. I believe the environment around you matters a lot. The people around you should motivate you. Everyone goes through tough phases in life, not just in cricket. At that time, the company you keep becomes very important,” he elaborated.

The unflinching support from teammates proved enough for Abhishek to rediscover his touch on the biggest stage of his cricketing career. “The first thing is to trust yourself, no matter how bad the phase is. When you start doubting yourself, it creates pressure, and you cannot play your natural game.

"That doesn’t help the team either. Self-confidence, hard work and helping others are very important. When you help others, it eventually comes back to you," he concluded.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Head coach Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on Sanju Samson for his match-winning exploits in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victory, calling his resilience and performance ‘special’ and highlighting the character the wicketkeeper-batter displayed under pressure.

Asked about Samson winning the Player of the Tournament award and whether it brought a sense of deja vu to India’s 2011 World Cup heroics of Yuvraj Singh, Gambhir noted, “Look, it’s not fair to compare two people. I think Sanju, what he’s done… see, again, Sanju did that three in a row, three in a row doing it and especially after coming back from the kind of form that he was in. You know, it takes so much of character and courage where you know that maybe your career is on the line.”

He emphasised that Samson’s journey during the tournament was unique. “Even if the captain and I can show as much faith, trust, everything in him, deep inside you know that obviously you didn’t have a great series against New Zealand before the start of the World Cup, and then you didn’t start on the playing level during the World Cup. Then making a comeback like that and playing those kinds of innings with that kind of, what, strike rate or with that kind of flamboyance… You need to have a special player, you need to be a special talent,” Gambhir noted.

The 2011 World Cup-winner praised Samson’s approach to pressure. “It was never about doubting his talent. He just had to go out there and be as free as he wanted to be. That is what he has shown to everyone. When you start believing in yourself, I think nothing matters to you apart from that,” he said.

Samson's three consecutive match-winning innings, including a scintillating 89 in the final against New Zealand, played a pivotal role in India becoming the first team to retain the Men’s T20 World Cup title.

Gambhir concluded with a message for the future, saying, “Hopefully he can kick off from here and achieve a lot of great things. I think he deserves a lot more than actually he’s got till now. There was never any doubt about his talent, and this is just the beginning of a remarkable journey.”

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Following India’s record-breaking third ICC Men's T20 World Cup win, captain Suryakumar Yadav reflected on the importance of mental resilience, team understanding, and off-field preparation in building a championship-winning culture and highlighted that the most important is to be true to oneself.

India defeated New Zealand by 97 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, and speaking about the lessons from his own career, Surya emphasised that failure is an inevitable part of sports.

“It’s really important to understand that you'll definitely fail more times than you succeed in sports. I mean, he must have seen it in his career. I have seen it last year, 2025. Whole year, I couldn't get a 50. It took me 400 plus days to get a 50 for India. But that's what I told the boys, the same thing. Ups and downs will definitely keep on coming in sport,” he said while addressing the media in the press conference.

For Surya, success comes not just from technical skill but also from character, discipline, and fostering trust within the team.

“You have to understand, you have to respect the game. You have to try and spend time with all good people around you. That's more important. Be true to yourself. You can't cheat the man in the mirror when you get up in the morning or you're going to sleep,” he added.

He highlighted the importance of understanding teammates’ temperaments, strengths, and weaknesses, and of building confidence through personal connection and freedom of expression.

“So, those small, small things which you do off the field, I think when we come on the field, that actually gives you a lot of confidence, that gives them a lot of composure. Also, I feel you need to understand each character on the team. Everyone is different. They bring a different skill to the table. So, you need to speak to them, their temperaments, understand them. That is actually very important and that's what we did throughout the last one and a half years, two years,” the skipper stated.

Surya stressed that while the jersey colour changes when representing India, players should retain the skills and mindset that brought them success at state and franchise levels.

“Yes, the jersey colour changes, brings in a lot of emotion, the dry colour, but at the same time, what has given them success, they shouldn't be running away from it,” he noted.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former India captain MS Dhoni congratulated the Indian team after their historic triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, saying it was a “pleasure” to watch the side create history with their dominant performance in the final against New Zealand.

India scripted a remarkable chapter in cricket history by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday to become the first team to retain the Men’s T20 World Cup title, the first to win three crowns in the tournament, and the first side to lift the trophy at home.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav led India to the title with an unbeaten run since taking charge in July 2024, while Sanju Samson’s blistering 89 helped the hosts post a massive 255/5 before the bowlers dismantled New Zealand for 159.

Dhoni, who was present at the stadium for the blockbuster final and also walked out with the trophy alongside 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma, shared a picture of the victorious Indian team on Instagram and praised the players, coach, support staff and fans.

“History gets created at Ahmedabad, big congratulations to the team and support staff and to all the fans of Indian Cricket Team worldwide.such a pleasure to see all of u play,” Dhoni captioned in what was his first post on the platform since July 2024.

The legendary wicketkeeper-batter also lauded his former teammate and the current side’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, for guiding the side through a successful campaign.

“Coach Sahab, smile looks great on you. Intensity with smile is a killer combo, very well done. Enjoy guys,” he added.

Dhoni reserved special praise for India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, calling him a ‘champion bowler’ for his impact in the final.

“BUMRAH ke baare mein kuch na likhoon tou hi acha hai.CHAMPION BOWLER (It'd be better if I don't write anything on Bumrah. Champion Bowler)," Dhoni concluded.

India’s victory was built on a dominant batting display led by Samson’s 89 off 46 balls, supported by half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. The bowlers then sealed the contest early, with Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel dismantling New Zealand’s top order to secure a comprehensive 96-run win.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India head coach Gautam Gambhir said his focus was never on simply inheriting a successful side but on building a new identity for the team through fearless and attacking cricket after the India scripted history, becoming the first team to defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.

Fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah picked 4-15 as India became the first team to retain the Men’s T20 World Cup title and win the crown for a record three times in front of 86,824 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

In the last three years, India have clinched three ICC titles, starting right from the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. Then in the Champions Trophy, they defeated New Zealand to claim the second title, and on Sunday, they claimed the coveted T20 WC title for a record third time.

Reflecting on India’s sustained success in recent years, Gambhir emphasised that the players aimed to create their own legacy by playing without the fear of losing and consistently outperforming opponents — a mindset he believes has helped shape a brand of cricket the dressing room and the entire country can be proud of.

“I don’t believe in inheriting anything. I believe in creating something, and hopefully we’ve created something that all of you can be proud of — the kind of brand of cricket we’ve played. It’s not only about inheriting a team; it’s also about creating something of your own,” Gambhir said in the post-match press conference.

“That was always something I wanted to do as a coach — to see if we could play a completely different brand of cricket where people can say that this is a team that has consistently outscored and outbowled the opposition.”

Sanju Samson’s blistering 89 off 46 balls, laced with five fours and eight sixes, powered India to 255/5, the highest total in a T20 World Cup final, before Jasprit and Axar Patel (3-27) ripped through New Zealand’s top order to seal victory.

The visitors were dismissed for 159 in 19 overs, with only Tim Seifert offering resistance through a fighting 52.

“This has been a fearless group of players who do not fear losing a game of cricket. We spoke about it many times in the dressing room — the first discussion we always had was that we don’t want to fear losing a game of cricket.

“For too long, it was important for us to change that mindset. That’s why I say we have created something that everyone in the dressing room can be really proud of, and I’m sure the entire country should be proud of it as well," he said.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India’s triumphant campaign at the Men’s T20 World Cup came with heartfelt acknowledgements from head coach Gautam Gambhir, who dedicated the historic victory to former head coach Rahul Dravid, from whom he took the baton, VVS Laxman, the head of the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE), and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, stating that the win would not have been possible without their efforts of shaping the team.

“First of all, I think I should dedicate this trophy to Rahul (Dravid) Bhai first and then Laxman (VVS) Bhai because what Rahul Bhai has done to keep Indian cricket in such a good shape, I have to thank him for everything what he's done during his tenure,” Gambhir told media during the post-match press conference.

He continued, praising Laxman’s behind-the-scenes contributions, noting the efforts he and the staff at CoE have made over time in keeping the players match-ready even after severe injuries.

“VVS Laxman for unconditionally doing so much for Indian cricket, especially behind the doors, because CoE remains the pipeline for Indian cricket.”

Gambhir also acknowledged the support of the team’s chief selector and his team, who had guided him through challenging times and also made special note by mentioning former BCCI secretary and current ICC chairman Jay Shah to have supported him at his lowest.

“Third is obviously Ajit Agarkar because he does take a lot of flag and the amount of honesty he's worked with, and last but not the least, I have to thank Jay Bhai because not many people have actually called me when I've gone through the lowest moments in my tenure… he trusted me for this job,” Gambhir noted.

Reflecting on his own journey, Gambhir emphasised the faith placed in him despite his lack of prior head coaching experience: “I very well remember this, that when I was given this job, I had no experience of being the head coach of any franchise or any team but trusting me for this job, so I had to thank these guys. I think Indian cricket is in very, very safe hands.”

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India captain Suryakumar Yadav described the past month as ‘a wonderful journey’ following India’s emphatic victory over New Zealand on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at home and set gold at LA 2028 Olympic his next target.

Reflecting on the highs and challenges of the tournament, Surya acknowledged that the start wasn’t easy, but the team’s resilience and collective performance made the campaign special.

“Obviously, it has been a wonderful journey in the last one month. Though it didn't start the way we wanted it to start, but then it's part of the sport. Throughout the journey till today, it has been very special. And collectively as a team, what we've achieved, I think it's right in front of you. So very happy with that,” Surya told the media at the press conference.

The India skipper also looked ahead, revealing the team’s next big targets. “So very happy with that. And as you rightly said, definitely the next goal is the Olympics, Olympic Gold, and also the 2028 World Cup. Don't forget!”

Speaking of the World Cup final, India posted a daunting 255/5 batting first, the highest total in a T20 World Cup final, powered by Sanju Samson’s blistering 89 off 46 balls, alongside Ishan Kishan’s 54 and Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 52. The opening partnership of 98 between Samson and Sharma set the tone, while Shivam Dube’s late blitz helped India cross the 250-mark.

In response, New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with 4-15, supported by Axar Patel’s 3-27, dismantling the top order. Tim Seifert fought valiantly with 52, but wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, reducing New Zealand to 159 in 19 overs, completing a dominant 96-run victory.

The win made India the first team to retain a Men’s T20 World Cup and the first to win it three times. Captain Suryakumar led the side with composure, while the collective effort from batters and bowlers underscored India’s supremacy in the shortest format of the game.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India captain Suryakumar Yadav emphasised the importance of backing players during difficult phases, saying trust and support within the dressing room played a key role in India’s triumphant campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

After India defeated New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Suryakumar reflected on the culture the team has built over the last two years, one that prioritises communication, belief, and standing by teammates when they are struggling.

“When someone is not doing well, you try to spend time with him, take him out for dinner, talk to him. Because those are the players who, at the right time, will do something special for you, like how Abhishek did just now, and Sanju did in the last three games.”

The India skipper explained that the team’s success stems from players understanding their roles and responding positively to the brand of cricket the management wants to play.

“Each player, all of them, played to their role. I mean, very happy. Obviously, very happy because the way they played, they responded really well throughout the last two years. The way the brand of cricket that we wanted to play.”

Suryakumar noted that building strong personal connections within the squad is just as important as on-field performances. According to him, spending time with teammates outside cricket helps create trust, which often translates into match-winning contributions when the pressure is highest.

He also stressed the need for open communication inside the dressing room, saying every player must feel comfortable expressing their views.

“I think freedom of speech in the dressing room is very, very important for me. And obviously, Gauti Bhai will agree with me as well. Because if you don't listen to everyone, you can't take everyone together and win a trophy.”

The captain also thanked fans across India and around the world for their unwavering support throughout the tournament.

“Obviously, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping us, all the players, and the support staff in their prayers. Everyone wanted to win this World Cup. No team has done this before on home soil. I'm sure it will be a special feeling for all the Indians in India and all over the world.”

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Head coach Gautam Gambhir reiterated his long-standing belief that team trophies outweigh individual milestones after India clinched the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 title with a commanding victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Addressing the media after the triumph, Gambhir stressed that the team’s culture under his tenure is built around winning silverware rather than chasing numbers.

“My simple philosophy with Surya has always been that milestones don't matter. It's the trophies that matter. For too long in Indian cricket, we've spoken about milestones. And I hope that till I'm there, we're not going to talk about milestones,” he said in the press conference.

Gambhir praised captain Suryakumar Yadav for his leadership and for sharing the same philosophy about prioritising team success over personal records.

“Look, I've said it before, I think Surya has made my life a lot easier in this format. I think he's a phenomenal leader. I think, yes, he very rightly mentioned that he doesn't want to be called a captain, he wants to be called a leader because a leader is a far bigger figure in a dressing room than a captain.”

The former India opener pointed to the fearless batting approach displayed during the tournament as an example of players putting the team’s cause ahead of personal landmarks.

“You can see it very easily as well. You can see it in the last three games, what Sanju did. 97 not out, 89-88. Imagine if you had been playing for a milestone. Probably we wouldn't have got to 50,” Gambhir stated.

Calling for a shift in how cricket achievements are celebrated, Gambhir said the focus should always remain on collective glory.

“Stop celebrating milestones, celebrate trophies. That is going to be important because the bigger purpose of a team sport is to win trophies, not score individual runs. It has never mattered to me, and it will never matter to me,” he said.

Gambhir added that he considers himself fortunate to share the same vision with Suryakumar, which has helped build a strong team culture.

“And I think Surya has… Actually, I've been very fortunate that Surya and I were on the same page, especially on this one,” he stated.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) All-rounder Hardik Pandya described India’s ICC Men's T20 World Cup triumph as a moment of redemption and validation of years of belief, saying winning trophies for the country remains the driving force of his career after India sealed a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, successfully defending their title and becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home and three times.

Speaking of his journey and the emotions surrounding the triumph, Pandya pointed to the difficult phases he had overcome since the previous World Cup cycle. “I think in that (2024 WC final) scene, there was a lot of difficulty, a lot of things had happened, so this was more about taking redemption, making my fifth comeback. This victory is always what I live for. I have played cricket for this. I want to win trophies, I want to win as many trophies as possible for India,” he told the broadcasters after the win.

Pandya said his belief in winning trophies for India had never been just words. “After Barbados, I had said that whichever trophy I play for, I will win. I didn’t say that to say it, I believe it, and this is just a validation that what I believed has converted into reality,” he said.

While he acknowledged the power of belief and manifestation, the all-rounder stressed that success ultimately comes down to relentless effort. “It is a manifestation, but I think there is a lot of hard work behind it; it is not just that, a lot of hard work goes into it. The big thing is everyone works hard, but for me, whatever results have come in life, I only know hard work. Every time I just work hard, work hard, be a good human being.”

Pandya also credited the people behind the scenes who helped him stay physically and mentally ready through challenging periods in his career. “I would like to thank my own team, Mohit, Kartik, my physio, my security Siddhant, my nutritionist Nikhil, my trainers Sagar, and my chef Vijay. I think they have been fantastic. The Hardik Pandya you see is because these people take so much care behind the scenes.”

He reserved special praise for his wife, saying her support had played a huge role in his recent success. “And since Mahika has come into my life, it has only been about winning, only about how Hardik Pandya can move forward. So special mention to Mahika, to my whole team. I think without them, I would not be here. This would not have been possible.”

Now regarded as one of the senior players in the Indian setup, Pandya said he still has big ambitions for the next phase of his career. “I think it sounds very good that I am a senior player now. But I still have ten years left, so half of my career is finished, and half is still remaining. I want to win at least ten trophies, ICC and IPL combined, but for me, ICC trophies are the most important trophies.”

He added that adding more global titles remains a major goal. “I have got three, and I would want to win anything that I play for. So I think in the next ten years at least five or six will come, so yeah, that’s my goal.”

Winning a World Cup on home soil made the achievement even more special for the all-rounder. “Yes, it is a very emotional thing for me because winning a World Cup in India, the excitement of the people is a very big thing.”

Pandya also reflected on the team’s belief heading into the final and key moments earlier in the tournament. “It feels like we won the match easily now, but the hard work this team has put in, from yesterday, I knew we are champions. I think that 19th over (in the semi-final vs England) was as important as what I bowled in the 2024 World Cup because I loved it.”

For Pandya, the journey also carried a larger message about perseverance and humility. “I mean, this is what life teaches you. When you work hard, when you stay as humans, when you find happiness in other people’s happiness, the divine always gives you a chance. I think this is a learning for the whole nation that no matter what happens in life, if you keep working hard and stay quiet, the divine will take care.”

He also praised teammates Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, both of whom played key roles in India’s title-winning campaign. “I am so proud of both of them. They came, they worked very hard, they kept quiet, and God has given them the benefit of what they have got now. So I am really proud of them.”

Mumbai, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Legendary cricketer Virat Kohli on Sunday heaped praises on India's wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for his phenomenal performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup triumph, for which he was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

Samson, who came into the playing XI as a replacement player as the top-order was not producing the desired runs because of Abhishek Sharma's poor run of scores, struck half-centuries in three successive matches as India fought back from the brink of elimination to clinch a historic third title in the T20 World Cup. India also became the first nation to win back-to-back titles and to triumph on home soil.

And Samson played a key role in the historic triumph, and Virat Kohli highlighted his contribution in a social media post on Sunday night.

"What a remarkable tournament from the most well-deserved Man of the Tournament @imsanjusamson. You performed when it mattered the most. Really happy for you, Chetta," wrote Kohli in his Instagram story that was accompanied by a poster by ICC declaring Samson as the Player of the Tournament.

Samson really turned out to be the star of the campaign for India. He first rescued the team with a masterful unbeaten 97 against the West Indies that helped India emerge victorious in the do-or-die Super 8 stage match.

He then scored 89 in the semifinal against England, which laid the foundation of India's massive score of 253/7 against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, as India won by seven runs.

The 35-year-old from Kerala did it again in the final, top-scoring with 89 to help India post another massive total as they defeated New Zealand by 96 runs.

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) All-rounder Shivam Dube said his role in India’s victorious ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign was clear from the outset: provide late fireworks with the bat whenever the team needed quick runs. India clinched a record third T20 World Cup title after thrashing New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, posting a massive 255/5 before bowling the visitors out for 159.

While the top order laid the platform with explosive knocks, Dube’s late cameo ensured India finished with a daunting total. Reflecting on his contribution, Dube said the team management had defined his job early in the tournament.

“It was always there to hit some big sixes. That was my role since the first day of this tournament. And yeah, sometimes it happens. Some other batsmen are there when they go up. But yes, I always back myself and think that whenever I get the opportunity, I will hit some sixes,” he told broadcasters after the win.

Dube delivered precisely that in the final, smashing an unbeaten 26 off just eight balls to give India a strong finishing burst. His power-hitting in the closing overs pushed the total beyond the 250-mark, putting New Zealand under immense pressure from the start of their chase.

Though primarily known for his big-hitting, the Mumbai all-rounder also spoke about his progress with the ball and his determination to contribute more as a bowler in the future. “I've developed a lot, but yeah, I have not bowled this tournament. But yes, I'm going to come better next time.”

The 31-year-old also highlighted the role of fans in driving the team throughout the tournament, especially during challenging phases. With more than 86,000 spectators filling the stadium for the final, the atmosphere in Ahmedabad played a significant part in the celebrations.

“Definitely, it's one of the biggest days today and the crowd was amazing. This tournament belongs to the supporters of Indian cricket team,” Dube said.

Acknowledging the emotional backing from fans across the country, he added, “The prayers and I think we have got that love which supported us a lot in the bad situations. I think all credit goes to all the Indian cricket team supporters.”

Ahmedabad, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) India pacer Arshdeep Singh credited the team’s depth and collective strength after the Men in Blue clinched the ICC Men's T20 World Cup title with a commanding win over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking of the squad’s confidence throughout the tournament, Arshdeep said the belief came from the sheer number of game-changers in the side. “And it’s a fantastic team, there are match-winners everywhere in this team, so there was belief from the start that we would perform well, and whatever the result is, that’s just the topping on the cake,” he told broadcasters after the game.

The left-arm pacer also addressed the brief on-field moment with Daryl Mitchell, when a throw from his follow-through struck the batter during New Zealand’s chase. Arshdeep clarified that he immediately apologised for the incident. “I went to say sorry to Mitchell. My throw reverse-swung a bit too much and it hit his body, so I told him that I didn’t hit him intentionally.”

Despite playing a key role in India’s bowling effort, Arshdeep admitted that the scale of the achievement had not yet fully sunk in. “I don’t really know what the emotion feels like right now, sir. At the moment it feels good because we’re winning, but in two or three days we’ll know when the emotions sink in, how it actually feels.”

With India posting a huge total in the final, the bowlers had a clear plan about their job in defence. “The role of the bowlers is that if the batsmen are scoring 250, then you have to stop them below 250, that’s the role we kept for ourselves. And if we bowl first, then try to restrict them to as low as possible and give the batters a chance to play freely.”

Even after the high-pressure final, Arshdeep ended the night in a light-hearted mood, hinting at celebrations off the field. “I’ll go upstairs and bring my phone now, I’ve thought of ten or fifteen reels, let’s see how many we make. But it’s been great, I enjoyed it a lot.”

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) After a dominant 96-run win over New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, Indian players shared their thoughts on the historic win, which clinched their third title in the event, showing their emotions.

In defence of a massive 255/5, Bumrah used his magical slower balls to great effect to pick 4-15 as India became the first team to win a T20 World Cup on home soil, and defend a world title in the shortest format.

"To be honest, we have been preparing for the last one and a half years. We have prepared to bat at any position for the team. We are up for it and in the right mindset to bat at any position. [The fielding] Actually, when the team needs it, the boys always stand up in the field. Today, I won't say it was the best fielding, but we took some good catches, and (at the) end of the day, I'm happy we won the final. The next couple of days will be a big party with the boys,” said Tilak Varma after the match.

Arshdeep Singh, who went wicketless in the final, said, "I just ran off to apologise to Mitchell. The ball reverse-swung when I threw it, and it hit him. Right now it feels great, but the emotions will sink in over the next 2-4 days. This is a very good team with a lot of match-winners, and the result is a cherry on the cake. As a bowler, our role is to restrict them to under 250 if we score 250, and when bowling first, it's just to restrict them to as little as possible,” said Arshdeep Singh.

All-rounder Shivam Dube, who played a cameo of 26 in 8 deliveries, said, “It was always there to hit some big sixes. That was my role from the first day of the tournament. I always back myself and think that whenever I get an opportunity, I'll hit some sixes. I have developed a lot in my bowling, but it didn't come off in this tournament. Hopefully, we will do better in the future,” said Shivam Dube.

After a poor outing throughout the tournament, Abhishek Sharma came good in the final and scored fifty. He said, "The one thing was very clear, I wanted to share before as well, but today is the best day. The captain and coach had faith in me. Even I was doubting myself. I had never experienced this before; it was a tough tournament. I was just doing my process, trying to take it one game after another, but it wasn't easy. But I love this team because of the way they backed me. It wasn't easy for me because, going through the whole year, I was doing well for the team, but in the big tournament, I wasn't able to. But the faith the team and management showed in me. I got emotional in the middle of the tournament and wanted to talk to the coach and captain, and they said you'll win us the big games. The crowd has supported us a lot even through tough times,” said Abhishek Sharma.

"Credit to all the support staff. They've been amazing. Amazing feeling for everyone to be part of this experience, and I'm sure there's more to come,” said Washington Sundar.

"Feels amazing. back-to-back trophies. Feel very happy for Abhishek, he scored today. We used to keep chatting about what's happening, nothing is working out for us, but yeah, now we've won the World Cup,” said Varun Chakravarthy.

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said constant guidance from legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had helped him through setbacks and shaped his Player of the Tournament performances in the side’s run to win the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

“To be very honest, a lot of guidance and suggestions came from our senior players in the side. The former Indian team members have really reached out to me, and they tried to help me out. But I think from the last couple of months, I think I hope I can share it here. I have been in constant touch with Sachin Tendulkar sir.

“When I was sitting outside in Australia, I was not playing a game. So, I thought about, okay, what is the mindset required now? So, I reached out to sir and I had huge conversations with him. Yesterday also, he called me up to check how am I feeling.

“So, I think getting guidance from someone like him, what more can I ask for? I think that clarity, that game preparation, that game awareness, that game sense, I think I’m very grateful for everyone who supported me,” said Samson in the post-match presentation ceremony.

It caps off a remarkable run for Samson, who didn’t get to play a game in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup win and got redrafted into the playing eleven from the Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe.

But from the must-win clash against the West Indies, where he hit an unforgettable 97 not out, Samson lit up the World Cup with knocks of 89 in the semi-final against England and then in the final against New Zealand – just the third player in the T20 World Cup to do so.

Overall, Samson amassed 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and strike-rate of 199.37. “Feels like a dream, actually. Very, very happy, very grateful. Out of words, out of emotions. I’m just going through it, so it feels a bit surreal. To be very honest, I think, it all started one to two years before.

“When I was with the 2024 World Cup-winning team in the West Indies, I couldn’t play a game. I kept on visualising. I kept on dreaming. I kept on working. This is exactly what I wanted to do then. I thought I need to work in, I need to put in so much of work that this is exactly what I wanted to achieve. And by God’s grace, I think today things have turned around,” he added.

Samson also talked about the time he felt his dream of performing in the World Cup was over after making only 46 runs in the T20I bilateral series against New Zealand and expressed gratitude to the Almighty for his plans coming true.

“Right after the New Zealand series, I was completely out of my mind. I was like, okay, my dreams have shattered, and what else can I do? But God had different plans. I think I suddenly came back into the crucial games and I did what I could for my country.

“So, I think I’m very proud and very happy that I was courageous enough to dream about it. And actually, things have turned up so nicely for me. So, very grateful. This itself is very big for me. I need to enjoy it right now. Then I think after a few days, we’ll figure out what next to do,” he concluded.

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) After playing a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup final triumph against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, Abhishek Sharma revealed that unwavering faith from the team management helped him overcome a difficult phase during the tournament.

Reflecting on his struggles with form earlier in the competition, Abhishek admitted he had moments of self-doubt. “I mean, of course, but the one thing was very clear… the coach and the captain, they had the faith in me. And even I was doubting myself because it was not an easy tournament for me. I’ve never experienced this before, but still playing the first World Cup,” he said, speaking to the broadcasters after India sealed a victory in the summit clash.

The young opener said the belief from captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir kept him motivated despite the lean run. “Everyone was so, so much into me that you’re going to win one game, one big game, one big game. So I was just doing my process, but it wasn’t that easy as a young player… going through this phase.”

Abhishek also spoke emotionally about the support he received from teammates during the tournament. “I think I just love this team, the way they treated me in those days. It was… I’ve never felt it before.”

The 23-year-old said the pressure of expectations weighed on him, especially after performing well through the year leading up to the tournament. “It wasn’t that easy for me because, you know, going through the whole year, you’ve been doing well for the team… but on the big occasion I wasn’t able to do well.”

However, the constant reassurance from the leadership group proved decisive. “The faith and the confidence, I think players and support staff and coaches showed on me… I think I got emotional in between the tournament as well because if you see that I wanted to do really well in all the games probably, but I couldn’t.”

Abhishek revealed that, instead of waiting for him to approach them, the team leadership consistently reached out to him. “I wanted to talk to coach or captain. They always wanted to come to me and just say one thing — you are, you’re gonna win us the big games.”

That belief, he said, stayed with him until the moment finally arrived. “I just wanted to wait for that day and you can’t ask for the better day for this.”

His explosive knock in the final ultimately justified the faith shown in him, helping India clinch a historic third T20 World Cup title.

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The ghosts of the past were finally laid to rest at the Narendra Modi Stadium as India delivered a masterclass against New Zealand to retain their ICC T20 World Cup title with a 96-run win on Sunday.

In a poetic reversal of fortune at the very venue that once hosted their most bitter defeats in 2023, the Men in Blue stood tall, transforming the world’s largest cricket arena into a cauldron of pure jubilation.

India were the favourites to lift the title as they entered the tournament in scintillating form that has seen them win 48 of their last 56 T20I games dating back to October 2023. And producing a dominant series win against New Zealand ahead of the marquee event, they lived up to the tag.

The Men in Blue had a strong and steady campaign leading to the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, achieving seven wins in eight matches. Their journey started with a 29-run win against the United States national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium on February 7.

They then dominated the Namibia with a convincing 93-run victory in Delhi on February 12. One of their most important wins in the group stage came when they defeated their arch-rivals, the Pakistan, by 61 runs in Colombo on February 15.The team continued to build momentum with a 17-run win over the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.

India's only defeat in the tournament came against South Africa in Ahmedabad on February 22. However, this loss did not derail their campaign. The team responded strongly, beating Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai on February 26. They then overcame the West Indies team by five wickets in Kolkata on March 1, securing a spot in the semi-finals, where the Suryakumar Yadav-led side beat England by seven runs in a thrilling contest.

With this victory, India has rewritten the record books. Take a look at the milestones the Men in Blue conquered in their title defence.

1) First team to defend T20 World Cup

Entering the 2026 tournament as defending champions, India carried the momentum of their historic 2024 campaign—a victory that marked their second T20 World Cup title since the inaugural 2007 triumph. By clinically dismantling New Zealand in the final, the Men in Blue have now achieved what no other men’s side in history has: a successful title defense. This back-to-back glory cements their status as the format's undisputed powerhouse.

This latest milestone follows their record-breaking 2024 run, where India redefined dominance by winning eight consecutive matches to lift the trophy. In doing so, they became the first team in the tournament’s history to complete an entire World Cup campaign undefeated.

2) First men's team to lift T20 World Cup crown on home soil

India’s victory in Ahmedabad marks a watershed moment in the tournament’s history: they are now the first men's team to lift the T20 World Cup trophy on home soil. Since the inaugural 2007 edition in South Africa, the coveted silverware has consistently eluded the host nations. From the Caribbean to Australia, and across previous editions in Asia, the "home-ground advantage" had historically proven to be a burden rather than a blessing.

Until Sunday’s final, the list of hosts who fell short was long and distinguished, including South Africa (2007), England (2009), Sri Lanka (2012), and Australia (2022). Even in 2024, the co-hosting USA and West Indies watched as the trophy was claimed by others.

In this 10th edition, co-hosted with Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue finally shattered that long-standing hoodoo.

3) First team to win three T20 World titles

By defeating New Zealand in the final, India has etched its name into the history books as the first nation to win the Men’s T20 World Cup three times. This unprecedented "treble" places them in a league of their own.

While the West Indies first broke new ground in 2016 by becoming the first two-time champions, and England later joined that elite club, India’s 2026 victory represents a new pinnacle for the shortest format of the game.

The journey to this third star began with their iconic victory in the inaugural 2007 edition, followed by a masterful undefeated run to their second title in 2024. Now, by clinching their third trophy in the tournament’s 10th edition, the Men in Blue have officially established a cricketing dynasty.

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said winning the Player of the Match award in front of his home fans after India’s 96-run win over New Zealand to win the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup is a special moment for him.

In defence of a massive 255/5, Bumrah used his magical slower balls to great effect to pick 4-15 as India became the first team to win a T20 World Cup on home soil, and defend a world title in the shortest format.

“Feels extremely special because I've played one final in my home venue, but couldn't win that one, but today I won. I knew the wicket was a flat one, so I had to use all my experience. All the execution went as planned, I’m really happy and really grateful. God is really kind,” said Bumrah in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Asked what his key to success in the competition was, Bumrah said, “Before this tournament, I was in that zone where I felt I was trying too hard because I was bowling well, but felt I was trying too hard.

“This tournament, I just tried to let the game come to me, and that worked really well. My individual assessment has always been my strength, and getting this award at my home ground in a World Cup final, it doesn't get better than that.

Quizzed about the mastery of his slower balls, Bumrah, the Player of the Tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, said, “Because of the experience, and I've played on belters over here, and I have seen the other teams too, I learned that trying to bowl too fast can make shot-making easier. So, just played smart, and tried to think of what the batsmen were trying to do.

He signed off by speaking about the camaraderie in the bowling group. “Whenever we discuss, they always come up with options. When communication is needed, we do that.

“We never panicked. Kept our heads above the water. Teams that do that win the tournament, and I am very happy we did it. The crowds were really brilliant. Really thankful for all the support.”

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah picked 4-15 as India became the first team to retain the Men’s T20 World Cup title and win the crown for a record three times after beating New Zealand by 96 runs in front of 86,824 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Sanju Samson’s blistering 89 off 46 balls, laced with five fours and eight sixes, powered India to 255/5, the highest total in a T20 World Cup final, before Bumrah and Axar Patel (3-27) ripped through New Zealand’s top order to seal victory. The visitors were dismissed for 159 in 19 overs, with only Tim Seifert offering resistance through a fighting 52.

Samson, in prime form after scores of 97 not out and 89 in his previous innings, shared a 98-run opening stand with Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21 balls) while Ishan Kishan added 54 off 25 deliveries. James Neesham briefly checked the charge with three wickets in an over, but Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 26 off eight balls pushed India past 250.

India’s bowlers then ensured there was no repeat of the semi-final scare against England, reducing New Zealand to 52/3 inside the powerplay. The win broke two hoodoos - India’s first victory over New Zealand in a T20 World Cup and their first ICC white-ball triumph in Ahmedabad after defeats in the 2023 ODI final and earlier in this tournament.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav is now the fourth Indian skipper to lead the side to a men’s cricket World Cup title after having not lost a single series since taking charge after the trophy triumph in Barbados in June 2024 - a remarkable record that highlights India's dominance in the shortest format. Head coach Gautam Gambhir also gets his second ICC title, as India completed their two-peat of Men’s T20 World Cup titles via their high-risk and reward approach.

On a flat mixed soil pitch, India’s imposing total was built on an explosive platform laid by their top three, all of whom attacked from the outset with strike rates that underlined their dominance. Samson finished on a strike rate of 193.47, while Abhishek struck at 247.61 and Kishan hit his runs at a strike-rate of 216.

The early overs had set an ominous tone for New Zealand before the tactical decision to introduce fast bowler Jacob Duffy in the third over backfired badly. Runs and boundaries flowed from there like an avalanche, as New Zealand's bowlers were sent on a leather hunt via depending too much on slower balls and bowling away from stump-to-stump lines.

Inserted into batting first, Samson defended solidly off Matt Henry for the first four balls, before opening up with an elegant swing over long-on for six. After Glenn Phillips gave away five runs in the second over, Abhishek announced himself with an ugly heave off Jacob Duffy for four, before sweetly timing a lofted off-drive for another boundary.

Samson, meanwhile, pumped a Duffy inswinger back over the bowler's head for four. The pitch was a belter, and both batters were beginning to sense it as the fourth over opened the floodgates for India. Lockie Ferguson endured a nightmare introduction - two wides, with Abhishek and Samson taking him for a pair of four and six each, as the duo plundered 24 runs.

Henry's second over saw Abhishek launch a slower ball over mid-off for six before Samson rocked back to pull a bouncer for another maximum, even as four wides in the over told its own story. New Zealand's plans were clearly unravelling against batters who simply refused to stick to a blueprint.

Abhishek reached his half-century off just 18 balls in the sixth over, swatting and swinging his way to the milestone with nonchalance via three fours and a six, as India plundered 92 runs in power-play. Though Santner brought himself on in the seventh over, Samson cracked a cut off him for four.

Abhishek's fine innings ended in the eighth over when Rachin Ravindra pushed it wide, and the opener feathered an edge behind to the keeper to depart for 52. Ishan Kishan walked in and immediately fitted the template, as an on-drive for two brought up India's hundred in 7.2 overs. With an off-drive and a muscular four through mid-wicket being the standout from his four quick boundaries, Kishan maintained India’s tempo.

Samson, after raising his third successive fifty, was on an altogether different level – smacking Ferguson for two sixes and a four before smashing three consecutive sixes off Ravindra in the 14th over. By the 15th over, India had already surpassed the highest team total in a T20 World Cup final, even as Kishan’s audacious strokeplay got him his fifty off 23 balls.

But Neesham struck thrice in quick succession - Samson slapped a full toss to long-on and departed for 89, then Kishan holed out to long-on for 54, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav jabbed to deep backward square leg for a golden duck.

Hardik Pandya smacked Henry for a six and four, before the pacer dismissed him on a slower bouncer and cover taking the catch. Shivam Dube ensured India got a great finishing kick by lofting Neesham for four, before smashing the next delivery over midwicket for six and clearing cover for another maximum.

Dube then pulled Neesham for four and finished the innings with a cross-bat drive through cover, as India went past 250, thanks to 24 runs coming off the final over. In defence of 256, Arshdeep Singh found swing early on to keep Seifert and Finn Allen in check.

After Allen was dropped on two by Dube at mid-off, Tim Seifert launched Hardik Pandya for two sixes and two fours in the second over, yielding 21 runs. India's response was swift and ruthless, as Axar, introduced in the third over, had the dangerous Allen holing out to long-on. Bumrah was summoned in the fourth over and struck with his very first ball, as Rachin Ravindra chipped an off-cutter to Ishan Kishan, who took a brilliant diving catch.

Axar then castled Glenn Phillips with a perfectly disguised arm ball in the fifth over, the ball slipping past his bat to peg back leg stump, as New Zealand ended power-play at 52/3. Seifert marched forward to bring up a half-century off 23 balls by carting Varun Chakaravarthy for two sixes.

But India continued to chip away - Mark Chapman chopped onto his stumps off Pandya, while Seifert miscued the pull and Kishan tossed the ball in the air and regained balance to complete a solo relay catch in the deep.

The crowd was briefly silenced when Daryl Mitchell struck successive sixes off Arshdeep Singh, who later fielded off his own bowling and threw the ball back at the batter, invoking an angry reaction from him.

The umpire intervened, with Suryakumar Yadav offering an apology and Arshdeep following with a handshake at the end of the over. Despite the steep asking rate, Mitchell and skipper Mitchell Santner, dropped on 26 by Pandya, continued to smash boundaries.

But Axar came back to have the former hole out to deep mid-wicket off a full toss, while Bumrah castled James Neesham, Matt Henry, and Neesham with slower balls, before Tilak Varma completed a solo relay catch of Jacob Duffy off Abhishek Sharma’s bowling, as India lived up to their pre-tournament hype and made the history they were destined to make in blistering style.

Brief scores:

India 255/5 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 89, Ishan Kishan 54, Abhishek Sharma 52; James Neesham 3-46, Rachin Ravindra 1-32) beat New Zealand 159 in 19 overs (Tim Seifert 52, Mitchell Santner 43; Jasprit Bumrah 4-15, Axar Patel 3-27) by 96 runs

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Narendra Modi Stadium dazzled both on and off the field during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final, with a spectacular mid-innings laser show and fireworks thrilling the fans in attendance. The entertainment followed earlier performances by Falguni Pathak, Sukhbir Singh, and Ricky Martin, setting the stage for a high-octane cricketing showdown between India and New Zealand.

India’s top order continued their red-hot form, with Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan all producing explosive half-centuries to propel the defending champions to a mammoth 255/5. On a flat mixed-soil track, the total is the highest ever at the stadium and the third-highest in Men’s T20 World Cup history. Samson struck 89 off 46 balls, Abhishek hit 52 off 21 balls, while Kishan’s 54 came off just 25 deliveries.

India’s innings began cautiously but soon exploded as New Zealand bowlers struggled to find a consistent line. Early introductions of pacers Jacob Duffy and Lockie Ferguson backfired as boundaries flowed freely. Abhishek Sharma’s whirlwind fifty off just 18 balls set the tone for a record-breaking powerplay, while Samson and Kishan continued the onslaught in the middle overs, raising India’s 100th six of the tournament along the way.

By the 15th over, the defending champions had already surpassed the previous highest team total in a T20 World Cup final. Sachin Tendulkar praised the duo, saying, “Sanju is batting very smartly, knowing whom to attack and whom to defend against. Ishan Kishan has shown superb bat speed and played some unbelievable shots. 275 looks very much possible, it will be a fantastic score!”

However, the final overs saw New Zealand fight back through James Neesham, who picked up three key wickets in quick succession. Samson was first to fall for 89, followed by Kishan for 54, and Suryakumar Yadav departed for a golden duck. Shivam Dube then unleashed a late onslaught, plundering 26 runs off the last eight balls, ensuring India crossed the 250-mark and putting them in a commanding position to defend their title.

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Veteran seamer Matt Henry said New Zealand still have belief in their batting strength despite India posting an imposing 255/5 in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup final. On a flat mixed soil pitch, Sanju Samson (89), Ishan Kishan (54), and Abhishek Sharma (52) carried India to a massive 255/5, the highest score in a T20 World Cup final.

“Obviously, that’s tough. Obviously, we would have liked to have kept them to probably under 240 there, but we’ve still got the firepower and the belief in this shed. So I think for us, the way we start, hopefully we can get a good read of the wicket and put them under some pressure,” said Henry in a mid-innings chat with the broadcasters.

New Zealand's plan of using slower balls proved to be too costly as India's top three batters picked them with ease and regularly dispatched them with authority over the boundary ropes. Henry explained that the bowling plan had been to take pace off early against India’s big-hitting batters.

“Obviously, with the way they like pace coming onto the ball. The plan was obviously to take a bit of pace away from them. Obviously, they combated that pretty well. Probably for us, it’s just a little disappointing, but the way we managed to squeeze it back from there in that middle phase, we gave ourselves a fighting chance there. At the end of the day, we’re not out of this. We believe in that,” he added.

Henry also felt that New Zealand’s batters could learn from India’s batting approach. “Well, I think if you look at the way they started, they actually got a read of the wicket. Then, from there, they actually looked to accelerate and put us under a lot of pressure. So obviously, it didn’t look like when you’re coming out from ball one, giving yourself a couple of balls. But for us, it's frustrating one, but I think we still back our boys to get this done.”

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan struck explosive half-centuries each as defending champions India posted a massive 255/5 against New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

On a flat mixed soil pitch, India posted a total that is the highest at the venue and the third-highest in Men’s T20 World Cup history. It was built on an explosive platform laid by their top three, all of whom attacked from the outset with strike rates that underlined their dominance. Samson, who made 89 off 46 balls, finished on a strike rate of 193.47, while Abhishek, who finally came good by hitting 54 off 25 balls, struck at 247.61, and Kishan, who slammed a 25-ball 54, hit at a strike rate of 216.

At several stages, a total of 280 or beyond appeared well within India's reach, only for New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham toapply the brakes via 3-46. Shivam Dube ultimately ensured India finished strongly, plundering 24 runs off the final over to push the total past 250. Dube's late assault of 26 off just eight balls came at a strike rate of 325.

The early overs had set an ominous tone for New Zealand before the tactical decision to introduce fast bowler Jacob Duffy in the third over backfired badly. Runs and boundaries flowed from there like an avalanche, as New Zealand's bowlers were sent on a leather hunt by depending too much on slower balls and bowling away from stump-lines.

Hardik Pandya smacked Henry for a six and four before the pacer dismissed him on a slower bouncer, and cover took the catch. Shivam Dube ensured India got a great finishing kick by lofting Neesham for four, before smashing the next delivery over midwicket for six and clearing cover for another maximum.

Dube then pulled Neesham for four and finished the innings with a cross-bat drive through cover, as India went past 250, thanks to 24 runs coming off the final over, and looked set to defend the title they won in 2024 on home soil.

Brief scores:

India 255/5 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 89, Ishan Kishan 54, Abhishek Sharma 52; James Neesham 3-46, Rachin Ravindra 1-32) against New Zealand

Ahmedabad, March 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) president and former India cricket captain Kapil Dev, along with the CEO of PGTI, Amandeep Johl, were in attendance at the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Kapil Dev led India to the ODI World Cup in 1983, setting off the cricket revolution in India that has made the sport akin to religion in the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also in attendance alongside his wife, son Jay Shah, who is also the chairman of the International Cricket Council, daughter-in-law, and grandson.

Legendary cricketers MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma brought out the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup trophy together.

The sight of the duo bringing out the glittering silverware generated a thunderous roar of delight from the packed crowd. Dhoni, who captained India to the title in the inaugural 2007 edition, joined Rohit, who led the team to winning the trophy in 2024.

Apart from Dhoni and Rohit, the ambassador for the ongoing tournament, ICC chairman Jay Shah, and JioStar vice-chairman Uday Shankar also came out with the trophy, which was placed on the pedestal before both India and New Zealand came out for the national anthems.

Legendary playback singer Kavitha Krishnamurthy delivered a soaring rendition of the Indian national anthem. Coming to the match, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bowl against defending champions India.

The Blackcaps also made one change by drafting in pacer Jacob Duffy in place of off-spin bowling all-rounder Cole McConchie. India named an unchanged side from their seven-run semi-final victory over England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The pre-final closing ceremony featured global pop star Ricky Martin, who performed for the capacity crowd ahead of the final. Martin opened with his hit "Livin' la Vida Loca" before closing with "María" and "La Copa de la Vida," drawing a vociferous response from the crowd.

Indian artists Sukhbir Singh and Falguni Pathak also performed during the closing ceremony. Sukhbir delivered his popular Punjabi tracks, including "Oh Ho Ho Ho”, while Falguni, dubbed the Dandiya Queen, performed a medley of Gujarati folk music and Bollywood songs.

The final marks the culmination of a 20-team tournament that has seen India cruise through the knockout rounds after suffering a 76-run loss to South Africa in Ahmedabad. New Zealand, who have never previously won a Men’s T20 World Cup, are appearing in their second final.
