Kolkata, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) A goal by Jason Cummings in the dying minutes of the match meant the Kolkata Derby once again lived up to its billing as Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC played out a dramatic 1-1 draw in a pulsating Indian Super League clash at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.

In front of a packed crowd and with the ISL title race hanging in the balance, fortunes swung wildly before substitute Edmund Lalrindika’s 85th-minute strike for East Bengal was cancelled out by another substitute Jason Cummings’ dramatic equaliser five minutes later.

The result kept the title race wide open. Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan now have 23 points from 12 matches, though the Red-and-Gold Brigade remain on top due to a superior goal difference of 18 compared to Mohun Bagan’s 13. Mumbai City FC and Punjab FC are also on 22 points, with the two sides set to meet on May 21.

East Bengal, however, will clinch the ISL crown if they beat Inter Kashi in their final match, considering Mohun Bagan fail to overcome the goal difference equation.

The latest chapter of Indian football’s fiercest rivalry added further drama to a fixture steeped in history. The two Kolkata giants have now met 349 times across competitions, with East Bengal leading the head-to-head record with 129 wins to Mohun Bagan’s 105, while 115 matches have ended in draws. East Bengal have scored 324 goals in the derby compared to Mohun Bagan’s 286. Their previous meeting had ended in a goalless draw in the Super Cup at Margao on October 31, 2025.

With so much at stake, both sides started aggressively and looked determined to seize control from the opening whistle. Mohun Bagan carved out the first meaningful opportunity in the fourth minute when Liston Colaco danced past defenders before releasing Subhasish Bose on the left. Bose’s cutback found Sahal Abdul Samad inside the box, but the midfielder’s poor first touch allowed East Bengal to escape.

The response was immediate. A long kick from East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill released PV Vishnu clean through on goal in the fifth minute, only for Abhishek Tekcham to produce a crucial last-ditch tackle after Vishal Kaith was beaten.

The game continued at a frantic pace. Manvir Singh threatened after capitalising on a lapse from Anwar Ali, while at the other end Anton Sojberg came agonisingly close in the 14th minute. The Danish forward collected a loose ball near the edge of the box, glided across goal and curled an effort towards the far corner, but a slight deflection off Tom Aldred sent the ball crashing against the post.

East Bengal kept creating openings. Jeakson Singh threaded a superb pass through to Bipin Singh in the 22nd minute, but the winger hesitated at the crucial moment and failed to either shoot or square the ball. Mohun Bagan responded through Anirudh Thapa, whose powerful strike forced Gill into a sharp save.

Sojberg again threatened in the 37th minute after being played through by Miguel Figueira, but Kaith rushed out bravely to deny him as the first half ended goalless.

The intensity remained unchanged after the break. Bipin squandered another good opportunity in the 47th minute after neat interplay with Sojberg before the game finally burst into life late on.

Miguel, who orchestrated much of East Bengal’s attacking play, produced another incisive through ball in the 85th minute to send Edmund Lalrindika clear on goal. The substitute kept his composure and slotted past Kaith to send the East Bengal supporters into celebration.

But Mohun Bagan responded almost immediately. In the 90th minute, Dimitrios Petratos whipped in a dangerous corner at the first post which Jason Cummings flicked across goal to score the equaliser.

The drama did not end there. Lalrindika was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card, while Mohun Bagan nearly snatched victory moments later when Maclaren met a cross inside the box. However, Gill stood tall and produced a vital save to preserve a point for East Bengal in a derby that had everything.

New Delhi, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) SC Delhi and Inter Kashi shared the spoils in a tightly-contested 0-0 draw in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.

Despite Inter Kashi enjoying greater attacking momentum and creating the better chances, both sides were unable to find the finishing touch in a match defined by disciplined defending and resolute goalkeeping. SC Delhi keeper Nora Fernandes was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant work in between the sticks, including six saves.

With this result, Inter Kashi moved up to ninth place with 13 points from 12 matches, while Sporting Club Delhi climbed to 11th with 11 points from the same number of games.

Inter Kashi started on the front foot, showing early attacking intent and testing the Sporting Club Delhi defence within the opening minutes. Rohit Danu forced a save from Nora Fernandes with a long-range effort, while winger Mohammed Asif and striker Seiminlen Doungel both came close to breaking the deadlock.

Sporting Club Delhi, however, remained organised at the back, with Clarence Fernandes and captain Ashutosh Mehta leading a compact defensive display. While the hosts saw more of the ball in phases, they struggled to create clear openings in the final third.

Inter Kashi continued to dominate possession through the first half, with Alfred Planas particularly influential in attack. The Spaniard saw multiple efforts either blocked or saved, and even had the ball in the net in the 37th minute, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The visitors came closest to scoring just before the interval when a well-delivered corner from the right saw Narender Gahlot open on the far side, but the centre back failed to connect cleanly from close range. Planas then forced another sharp save from Fernandes in stoppage time, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

Sporting Club Delhi emerged with greater urgency in the second half, making three changes at the restart and pushing higher up the pitch. The hosts enjoyed a bright spell early on, with Augustine Lalrochana coming close with a left-footed effort that drifted narrowly wide.

Inter Kashi gradually regained control and continued to threaten from set-pieces and long-range efforts. Sergio Llamas orchestrated a play from midfield, setting up Planas for another attempt that was parried away by Fernandes.

As the game progressed, both teams exchanged attacking spells, but neither could carve out a decisive opportunity. Substitute Prasanth K delivered a teasing ball into the box in the 79th minute, but Nauris Petkevičius failed to guide his effort on target. At the other end, Abdul-Halik Hudu and Augustine combined well, though the final touch continued to elude the hosts.

The closing stages saw Inter Kashi push for a late winner, with Narender Gahlot’s header punched away by Fernandes before a flurry of blocked attempts inside the box by SC Delhi's defence. Sergio Llamas had the final chance deep into stoppage time, but his effort sailed high and wide.

In the end, neither side could find the breakthrough, settling for a point each in a contest.

Berlin (Germany), May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) With the 2025-26 Bundesliga season's final standings confirmed, the final puzzle pieces for German football are still missing. Freiburg, having locked up a UEFA Conference League spot for next season, are now gearing up for the 2026 Europa League final against Aston Villa, scheduled in Istanbul on May 20.

Bayern Munich celebrated their 2025-26 national title in a restrained manner, as the German Cup final on May 23 against Stuttgart is waiting.

Despite several league records, including 122 goals scored and French winger Michael Olise being named the season's best player, only the domestic double makes the season a success, following their UEFA Champions League semifinal defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, reports Xinhua.

The 2025 German Cup holder VfB Stuttgart are among the season's standout winners, having secured Champions League qualification for the second time in three years. Head coach Sebastian Hoeness is also level pegging with Bayern's Vincent Kompany in the running for the season's best coach award.

While Dortmund and Leipzig secured Champions League spots, both sides fly below the radar compared to Bayern and Stuttgart.

For Stuttgart, finishing ahead of rivals including Hoffenheim and Leverkusen in the league table feels like a more significant achievement than the upcoming cup final, where it enters as clear underdogs against the Bavarian side.

Relegated Heidenheim and St. Pauli seem the season's losers at first glance, but are outpaced by Leverkusen, which missed the Champions League aside from Wolfsburg's disappointing run.

The Wolves might have secured position 16 in a nail-biting relegation race, but face two nervy relegation games against the second division's third.

The list of underperformers also extends to the dugout: Leverkusen's Kasper Hjulmand and Eintracht Frankfurt's Albert Riera are both reportedly set to be sacked, while Augsburg's Manuel Baum, Cologne's Rene Wagner, and St. Pauli's Alexander Blessin are also in uncertain positions.

For struggling 2021 Europa League winner Frankfurt, the appointment of Riera has turned out to be a costly misstep, with the side failing to qualify for any European competition next season.

Berlin (Germany), May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) The guessing game over Manuel Neuer's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues.

While reports from Bild and Sky speak of a secured return of Neuer, Julian Nagelsmann stopped short of an explicit confirmation, though for the first time, he did not rule out a comeback for the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, after the 40-year-old announced his retirement from international duty following the UEFA Euro 2024.

The German national team head coach noted the final World Cup squad nomination is scheduled for May 21.

Bild, Sport1, Kicker, and Sky all report that a final announcement has been delayed due to a minor muscle injury suffered by Neuer, which forced the Bayern keeper to come off in the 60th minute of their final league game against Cologne as a precaution.

Reports note that Nagelsmann and Neuer have held several talks and have resolved the previously reported tensions that stemmed from Nagelsmann's tenure as Bayern's head coach.

Several Bayern officials, including Max Eberl, have praised Neuer as the best German keeper, while former German international Oliver Khan said that Oliver Baumann's performance has dipped since the Hoffenheim keeper was named Germany's number one a few months ago.

Former German international Stefan Effenberg criticised Nagelsmann's risky strategy and his failure to issue a clear statement. The case becomes tricky because Baumann claims not to have been informed of a change. "My position is that I am still the number one," the 35-year-old said.

Kahn spoke of a risky and adventurous procedure by Nagelsmann. The German coach is jeopardising Baumann's self-confidence, the 56-year-old said.

The former Bayern keeper said Neuer's age and growing injury-proneness could be a problem. "Playing games every two to three days is a heavy physical load," he said, after Neuer signed a one-year contract extension with Bayern.

Madrid, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho seems to be moving closer to becoming Real Madrid coach for the second time in his career when he admitted the club had been in contact with his representative Jorge Mendes.

Speaking to the press in Portugal after leading Benfica to a 3-1 win over Estoril Praia, Mourinho was asked if he would be returning to Real Madrid after coaching the club between 2010 and 2013, reports Xinhua.

"I don't know...the only thing I have on record is a proposal from Benfica...which I haven't seen, but Mendes tells me it's very good," said Mourinho.

The 63-year-old said he hadn't spoken directly to Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, or anyone in the club's structure," but added, "I'm not stupid...and there are contacts between the club and Jorge. And I believe they will turn into contacts with me during the next week."

Mourinho refused to rule out remaining at Benfica, insisting his "intention is to see what I have next week."

"Nobody's stupid, obviously something's going on. But as I said, there's no signed contract, no contract on the table, no talks between the Real Madrid president and me, nor talks between anyone important in the club's structure and me."

"At this moment, the only real and concrete thing that exists is an offer to continue from Benfica," he explained.

Álvaro Arbeloa, whose four-month-long stint as Real Madrid coach is on its last leg, has backed Jose Mourinho's return to the multiple-time La Liga winner, claiming he will be "happy" to see the Portuguese former boss back at the helm.

"Regarding Mourinho, I think I’ve been very clear throughout my life about what I think of him. For me, as his player, but above all as a Madridista, I feel and believe he is number one. A colleague of yours asked me a few days ago if I still think what I said when we faced him in the Champions League, and I will continue to think that José has been, is, and will always be uno di noi. If he is the one here next season, I will be very happy to see him back home,” Arbeloa said in the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's clash with Sevilla.

New Delhi, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chelsea F.C. have confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new head coach, with the former Spanish international set to begin a four-year spell at Stamford Bridge from July 1, 2026.

The move signals Chelsea’s latest attempt to bring stability to a chaotic managerial period that has seen multiple changes in the dugout during the current campaign. Alonso arrives after leaving Real Madrid by mutual agreement earlier this year, ending a brief and challenging tenure in the Spanish capital.

Chelsea announced the appointment through an official statement on social media.

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Manager of the Men’s Team. The Spaniard will begin his role on July 1, 2026, having agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Welcome to Chelsea, Xabi!”

The appointment comes less than 24 hours after Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City F.C. in the FA Cup final, a result that capped another inconsistent season for the London side.

Chelsea began the campaign under Enzo Maresca before later turning to Liam Rosenior, while Calum McFarlane is currently overseeing the team on an interim basis for the final two Premier League fixtures.

Alonso arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young managers after leading Bayer 04 Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title in 2024. During his three-year spell in Germany, he guided the club to their first-ever league title and added the German Cup to complete a historic domestic campaign.

In his first remarks as Chelsea manager, Alonso outlined his ambition to restore the club to regular contention for major honours.

“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club. From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies. There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies,” Alonso said in a statement.

Before stepping into management, Alonso enjoyed a glittering playing career across Europe’s elite clubs. He spent five seasons with Liverpool F.C. and played a key role in their dramatic 2005 UEFA Champions League triumph in Istanbul.

The midfielder also represented Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and FC Bayern Munich, winning league titles in Spain and Germany during an accomplished club career.

On the international stage, Alonso earned 114 caps for Spain and was part of the generation that dominated world football, lifting the 2010 FIFA World Cup and winning back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

Chelsea will now hope Alonso can translate his early managerial success into a sustained rebuild at Stamford Bridge as the club looks to re-establish itself among Europe’s elite.

Madrid, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Racing Santander ended a 14-year wait to return to La Liga with a 4-1 win at home to Real Valladolid on Saturday.

Racing's top scorer Andres Martin scored twice, and Asier Villalibre and Suleiman Camera also hit the target.

Racing leads the Spanish second-division standings by seven points, securing one of the two automatic promotion places with two rounds remaining.

Racing also leads the scoring with 85 goals in 40 games, while having also conceding 59, reported Xinhua.

"I'm very emotional, this is for the club and my family. I'm so proud, but I can hardly speak," said coach Jose Alberto after the game, while winger Inigo Vicente said "this is for the fans, they were here for the club when it nearly disappeared. But we have been the best team in the division from start to finish."

Midfielder Peio Canales, who has spent the season on loan from Athletic Bilbao, also celebrated the promotion.

"I came here on loan for a reason, and what we are living here is very special. We have played well all season and showed personality, even when we have had difficult moments," he commented.

Racing's 14 years outside La Liga saw the club drop as low as the third tier before returning to the second division in 2022.

The remaining two places for promotion to La Liga will be decided over the next fortnight, with one direct promotion spot and the other to be decided between the teams that finish between third and sixth in the second tier.

Berlin, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bayern Munich signed off from its Bundesliga campaign with another emphatic attacking display as Harry Kane hit a hat-trick in a 5-1 home win over Cologne before the newly crowned champion received the trophy on Saturday.

Leon Goretzka, making his final Bayern appearance after eight years in Munich, started alongside Joshua Kimmich, while Manuel Neuer returned in goal. Cologne, already safe after securing its survival the previous week, defended deep in the opening stages.

Kane met a cross from Lennart Karl to put Bayern ahead in the 10th minute, and struck again three minutes later from a free-kick touched off by Kimmich, reported Xinhua.

Cologne had barely threatened before Said El Mala punished a midfield mistake by Jamal Musiala, burst through the Bayern half and beat Neuer in the 18th minute.

Bayern's response was swift. Tom Bischof drove in from distance in the 22nd minute, taking the champion beyond the 120-goal mark for the season. Luis Diaz was denied by goalkeeper Marvin Schwabe before halftime, while Musiala struck the post shortly before the break.

Cologne coach Rene Wagner brought on Linton Maina after the interval, and the visitors found more presence higher up the pitch. Karl hit the outside of the post and Musiala went close again, before Kane settled the contest in the 69th minute with a long-range finish following Goretzka's run from deep.

Goretzka then departed to a standing ovation before replacement Nicolas Jackson scored with his first touch in the 83rd minute to round off the 5-1 win.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund secured second place with a 2-0 win at Werder Bremen, while Leipzig ended the season third despite a 4-1 defeat at Freiburg. Freiburg's victory sealed it the seventh place and a UEFA Conference League berth.

Stuttgart took the final Champions League spot after a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, helped by Hoffenheim's 4-0 loss at Borussia Monchengladbach. Bayer Leverkusen was held 1-1 by Hamburg and finished sixth. Wolfsburg climbed into the relegation playoff with a 3-1 win at St. Pauli, who was relegated alongside Heidenheim after the latter's 2-0 defeat against Mainz. Union Berlin closed with a 4-0 win over Augsburg.

Margao (Goa), May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Diamond Harbour FC will face Dempo SC, knowing that a point will be enough to secure them the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 title at the PJN Stadium in Margao on Sunday.

The West Bengal-based side currently leads the standings with 28 points, while nearest challengers Shillong Lajong FC sit second on 25 points with only one fixture remaining, against Diamond Harbour themselves. Sreenidi Deccan FC are third on 22 points with two matches in hand and a maximum possible tally of 28.

As a result, a victory for Diamond Harbour against Dempo would take them to 31 points and officially wrap up the championship with one match to spare, as neither Shillong nor Sreenidi would be able to catch them.

A defeat would further tighten the race. Diamond Harbour would remain on 28 points, allowing Shillong the opportunity to overtake them with a win in the final head-to-head clash, while Sreenidi could also draw level if results go their way.

Although Dempo are already out of title contention, they could still have a decisive influence on how the championship race unfolds as the season reaches its climax.

The two sides have met only once previously in the IFL, with Diamond Harbour registering a 2-1 victory in the league-stage fixture at the Kalyani Stadium on March 8, 2026. Antonio Moyano and Hugo Díaz Rodríguez were on target for Diamond Harbour, while Marcus Joseph scored Dempo’s only goal.

Diamond Harbour head into the fixture in strong form after a commanding 5-2 win over Rajasthan United FC in their previous outing. Kevin Ademoda Aladesanmi and Díaz both scored braces, while Wahengbam Angousana Luwang also found the net in an impressive attacking display. Dempo, meanwhile, will be aiming to respond after a 2-0 defeat against Chanmari FC in their last Championship Phase match.

Diamond Harbour head coach Kibu Vicuña emphasised both preparation and composure ahead of what could be a decisive fixture in the title race, underlining the importance of discipline and attention to detail.

“The preparation was going well because we have more than one week to prepare after the last game against Rajasthan, so we have time to recover, we have time to prepare the game as best as possible. The team is ready to play another game. We know that it can be a decisive game, but we are taking the game as always: with responsibility, with discipline, with humility, and knowing that all the details are going to be important, and also it's going to be a big challenge,” Vicuña said.

Diamond Harbour forward Aladesanmi echoed the squad’s grounded mindset despite needing just a point to secure the championship, stressing the team’s identity and approach. “Well, the truth is that we are going with what is on the ground. This team has been characterised by a winning run, so we surely have nothing to lose; we are going to prepare in the best way possible. The characteristic of this team, the identity of this team, is to keep our feet on the ground, meaning with humility, and preparing as best as we can,” Aladesanmi said.

Dempo, on the other hand, enter the fixture looking to finish their season on a positive note despite a challenging campaign. Head coach Samir Naik stressed belief within the squad as a key theme going into the match, highlighting their capacity to respond. “We always believe that we could do better than what we have done, actually, and we still believe. In fact, in the meeting this morning, we discussed the same thing, that we have potential, we have capability, we have capacity to overcome challenges,” Naik said.

Dempo defender Pruthvesh Pednekar reflected the dressing room’s determination, expressing confidence in the group’s preparation and intent heading into the contest. “Everyone is working hard in practice sessions. Everyone is giving their best. So I'm sure that we are going to win tomorrow's match and get three points,” Pednekar said.

With the title within touching distance, Diamond Harbour are expected to start on the front foot and impose themselves early. The league leaders have been the most prolific attacking side in the competition, scoring 30 goals so far this season.

Aladesanmi, with three goals and two assists, will look to continue his strong form and is expected to lead the line. He is likely to be supported by Jobby Justin (one goal, five assists) and Halicharan Narzary (three goals, three assists), while Díaz (seven goals, one assist) is expected to dictate tempo and orchestrate play from midfield.

At the back, Melroy Melwin Assisi and Mikel Kortazar Idiakez are expected to marshal the defence, with Ajith Kumar K and Robilal Mandi providing width and defensive balance from the full-back positions.

Dempo may be out of the title race, but the Golden Eagles possess enough quality to trouble any opponent on their day. Marcus Joseph (seven goals, one assist) and Sebastián Gutiérrez Atehortua (two goals, two assists) are expected to lead the attack, while Seigoumang Doungle and Vieri Colaco will provide width and pace in advanced areas.

Defensively, Dempo are likely to rely on the experienced pairing of Aubin Kouakou and José Luis Moreno Peña, with Saiesh Bagkar and Pednekar operating as full-backs.

As the Championship Phase approaches its decisive stretch, Sunday’s encounter sets the stage for a potentially defining night in the season, where Diamond Harbour FC stand on the brink of history, and Dempo SC carry the responsibility of shaping how the title race ultimately unfolds.

New Delhi, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) SC Delhi will face Inter Kashi in their final home game of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season in the early kick-off on Sunday, with both teams separated by just two points in the standings. The winner of the match will leapfrog their direct rivals and reach a higher position in the points table.

Currently sitting 11th with 10 points from 11 matches, SC Delhi will look to finish with a win in their first season in Delhi.

Head coach Tomasz Tchórz underscored the fixture’s significance, acknowledging the resilience of their opponents while firmly defending his tactical setup despite recent injuries.

“I think that Inter Kashi have shown throughout this season that they are a very competitive team. They have some problems, as we all know, but I think this might also serve as the motivation for the players because they want to play for their future,” Tchórz stated.

Addressing calls for tactical changes, he added, “You cannot change formation during the season because playing a line-of-three and line-of-four is completely different, and you have to have time. Definitely, this season we will finish with the line-of-three. There is enough space for everyone if everyone competes well.”

Defender Akshat Mehra expressed his motivation ahead of the contest, highlighting the emotional weight of their final home match of the campaign. “I think now that we all know that it's our last home game for the season, everybody is even more motivated,” Mehra noted. “It gives us an extra boost, an extra motivation because we want to end the season well, we want to do well, and I think we are going for the win tomorrow.”

Inter Kashi, meanwhile, travel to New Delhi hoping to build on their momentum following a highly commendable 0-0 draw away against title-contenders Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Occupying 10th place with 12 points from 11 matches, Inter Kashi will look to collect maximum points and finish as high as possible in their first season in the league.

Coach Abhijit Mondal highlighted his pride in the squad's recent fighting spirit and emphasised the need to maintain that same character against a well-rounded Delhi side.

“We overcame the problem outside the dressing room, and we played a fantastic game [against Mohun Bagan SG]. The mentality of the players never died. As a coach, I am very proud of the boys,” Mondal explained. “The next match, we are going to play against Sporting Club Delhi. We are on the same page. So, in these kinds of matches, you have to show your character, your discipline. They are strong in every department, so we are looking at them as a whole team.”

Goalkeeper Shubham Dhas reinforced the squad's motivation, reflecting on their recent clean sheet and the importance of communication on the pitch. “Overall, the team performance was good. Everyone defended well, attacked well, and my job was done well. That's why we got a clean sheet,” Dhas shared.

“As a goalkeeper, communication is the most important thing. 50% of the game is about communication, and we should do that. We want to show them that we are also the best.”

Both teams will look to secure crucial points to improve their respective campaigns, setting the stage for a fiercely contested tactical battle at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Margao (Goa), May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Three second-half goals by Manglenthang Kipgen, Bede Osuji, and Dani Ramírez helped Punjab FC keep their title ambitions alive with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Odisha FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025–26 at the PJN Stadium in Margao on Saturday.

Goals from Kipgen, Osuji, and Ramírez took the match away from Odisha FC and sealed a crucial win for the Shers, while Suhair VP and Kartik Hantal found the net for Odisha FC in a pulsating contest that came alive in the closing stages.

With this victory, Panagiotis Dilmperis side moved up to fourth place with 22 points from 12 matches, level on points with East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant ahead of their upcoming Kolkata Derby tomorrow. Odisha FC, meanwhile, remained 12th with 10 points from 12 matches. Bede Osuji was named the Player of the Match for his influential performance in attack.

Punjab dominated possession early on, moving the ball patiently across midfield through Samir Zeljković and Dani Ramírez. Effiong Nsungusi Jr. looked lively with his movement, though Odisha right-back Subham Bhattacharya stood firm to keep the early threats at bay.

The Shers came close to breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute when Nsungusi Jr. rose highest to meet a corner, only to see his header crash against the near post. Despite controlling the tempo, Punjab found it difficult to break through Odisha’s well-marshalled defensive unit, anchored by defensive midfielders Edwin Vanspaul and Lalthathanga Khawlhring.

Bede Osuji was at the heart of Punjab’s attacking play and nearly created the opener midway through the half, weaving his way into the box before forcing a sharp save from goalkeeper Anuj Kumar. Moments later, Anuj once again reacted quickly off his line to deny Osuji on a fast break.

Punjab continued to probe, with Shami Singamayum heading narrowly wide from a set-piece and Zeljković seeing a long-range effort blocked by captain Carlos Delgado. The Juggernauts responded sporadically, with Rahul KP attempting to break forward, but clear-cut chances remained limited.

As the half progressed, both sides traded efforts from distance, with Khawlhring and Isak Vanlalruatfela trying their luck for Odisha, while Ramírez and Nsungusi Jr. went close for Punjab. However, Odisha’s disciplined shape ensured the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

Punjab resumed the second half with renewed purpose, stretching Odisha through the flanks. Osuji and Singamayum combined well, while Ramírez tested Anuj Kumar from a distance. Odisha, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counter, with Rahul KP forcing Arshdeep Singh to rush off his line and clear a threatening move.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 69th minute. Substitute Manglenthang Kipgen, introduced to add attacking impetus, received a pass from Zeljković and struck from distance. The ball took an awkward bounce just in front of Anuj Kumar and nestled into the net, handing Punjab a deserved lead.

Odisha responded almost immediately. In the 71st minute, a cross from the right by Khwalring found substitute striker Suhair VP, who capitalised on Bijoy V's slip inside the box, to slot home the equaliser from close range.

The game opened up thereafter, with both sides pushing for a winner. Punjab continued to create chances, with Nsungusi Jr. missing narrowly with a header and then seeing another effort go wide. Odisha, too, remained resilient, with substitute Tejas Krishna making crucial blocks to keep the scores level.

Punjab’s persistence paid off in the 89th minute. From a well-worked corner, Kipgen delivered the ball into the box, Nsungusi Jr. flicked it on intelligently, and Bede Osuji was perfectly positioned to tap home from close range and restore the lead.

Four minutes later, the Shers added a decisive third. In stoppage time, Osuji turned provider, laying the ball off for Dani Ramírez, who unleashed a powerful left-footed strike into the near post to make it 3-1.

T.G. Purushothaman’s side refused to relent and pulled one back deep into added time. A swift attacking move saw Sanathoi Singh combine with Khawlhring, who squared the ball for substitute Kartik Hantal to finish clinically, setting up a tense finale.

However, Punjab held firm in the closing seconds to secure all three points in a thrilling encounter.

Kolkata, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Few fixtures in Indian football carry the emotional weight, history, and intensity of the Kolkata Derby -- but Sunday's encounter between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal SC carries the extra weight of being the title decider.

The rivalry between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal could produce one of its defining modern chapters when the arch-rivals face off in the potentially title-deciding clash in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday.

With East Bengal and Mohun Bagan level on 22 points heading into the contest, the title race remains delicately poised. East Bengal are currently top of the standings on goal difference, though the primary tiebreaker this season is head-to-head record. The equation is therefore straightforward. Whoever wins the derby will take a massive step towards the title.

An East Bengal victory would move them to 25 points, leaving Mohun Bagan on 22 with only one match remaining. Even if the Mariners then win their final fixture and draw level on points, East Bengal would hold the superior head-to-head record and remain favourites to clinch the title, provided no other contender overtakes them. Similarly, Mohun Bagan will also have the same situation as their rivals.

Other contenders, meanwhile, remain mathematically alive in the race. Mumbai City FC are also on 22 points after completing 12 matches, while Jamshedpur FC, Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, and Punjab FC remain within touching distance with games left to play.

Should the derby end in a draw, both teams would move to 23 points, and the title race would extend into the final matchday, potentially opening the door further for the chasing pack depending on other results.

Both sides enter the contest on the back of goalless draws. East Bengal were held by Punjab FC in their previous outing, while Mohun Bagan failed to find the net against Inter Kashi.

Despite the balance in the current standings, the Kolkata Derby in the ISL era has largely belonged to Mohun Bagan. Across 10 meetings between the two sides in the competition, the Mariners have won nine times, while East Bengal are still searching for their first ISL derby victory. The remaining encounter ended in a draw. Mohun Bagan have also enjoyed a sizeable advantage in front of goal, scoring 23 times compared to East Bengal’s five across those meetings. The latest chapter of the rivalry came on January 11, 2025, when Mohun Bagan secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

That record adds another intriguing layer to Sunday’s encounter. If East Bengal are to place one hand on the ISL trophy on derby day itself, they will have to achieve something they have never managed in the competition before: defeat Mohun Bagan in the ISL.

East Bengal head coach Oscar Bruzon, however, insisted his side are embracing the occasion with belief rather than pressure, while also acknowledging the expectations surrounding the defending champions.

“We don't take it as a responsibility. Probably in terms of responsibility, Mohun Bagan will have more tension because they need to defend the title. But we are having a dream. And when you have a dream, you can move mountains,” Bruzon said.

“If we need to talk about favourites, it's clear that Mohun Bagan has the advantages. But if we need to talk about performance, which is our part, I'm cool, I'm confident, I'm determined, I'm excited, and I really believe that our guys tomorrow can play a good game, and we can take the three points with us.”

Handling emotions could also prove decisive in a fixture of such magnitude. East Bengal midfielder Mohammad Rashid stressed the importance of composure despite the charged atmosphere that traditionally surrounds the derby.

“Any player looks to play these games because the atmosphere is just amazing. You look for those kinds of games, and you look forward towards them. You actually have to go in cool because if you press yourself and you're nervous, then it becomes a problem. You have to work on yourself mentally for these kinds of games,” Rashid added.

What makes the contest even more compelling is how evenly matched both sides have been across the campaign. East Bengal possesses the best attacking record in the league with 27 goals, while their tally of nine goals conceded is the joint third-best defensive return this season. Mohun Bagan, meanwhile, have scored 20 goals, the second-highest in the league while boasting the division’s best defensive record, having conceded only seven times.

Rather than sacrificing one aspect of their game to strengthen another, both sides have found balance between attack and defensive solidity throughout the campaign, a factor that has driven their consistency at the top end of the table.

Mohun Bagan head coach Sergio Lobera believes the occasion now demands performances rather than words, with the title race set to be decided on the pitch.

“It's a very good opportunity for us to show everyone that we can win one trophy because we are better than the opponent. But on paper, everything is amazing. It's time to speak on the pitch. It's the time to not speak here. Words are very easy and amazing, but finally, we need to show this on the pitch,” Lobera said.

The derby could also feature a decisive battle in the Golden Boot race. East Bengal striker Youssef Ezzejjari, the league’s current top scorer with 10 goals, will once again be central to the Red and Gold attack. For Mohun Bagan, Jamie Maclaren, who has netted nine times this season, is expected to spearhead the Mariners’ frontline.

Mohun Bagan defender Alberto Rodríguez acknowledged the narrative surrounding the clash between the Mariners’ defence and East Bengal’s attack, but emphasised the importance of focusing on the 90 minutes ahead.

“If we concede fewer goals, it's because we are doing something well in defence as a team. And maybe if they are scoring more goals, it's because they are doing something well in attacking, but tomorrow, everything is different. Tomorrow is just one game, 90 minutes. If we don't concede a goal and we score a goal, we will win, and everyone will be happy,” said Rodríguez.

For all the tactical battles, individual duels, and title implications, the Kolkata Derby ultimately remains something larger than football itself for countless supporters across the city and beyond. This Sunday, under the lights and with the ISL crown potentially within touching distance, two of Indian football’s biggest institutions will once again attempt to write history, with glory awaiting one side and heartbreak inevitably reserved for the other.

Hyderabad, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Lalromawia and David Castañeda scored as Sreenidi Deccan FC edged Chanmari FC 2-1 to keep their title hopes alive in the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 clash at the Deccan Arena, in Hyderabad, on Saturday.

Heading into the contest knowing that only a win would keep their title hopes alive, the Deccan Warriors raced to a two-goal lead through Lalromawia and David Castañeda inside 23 minutes while Marlon Rangel scored for the visitors in the 27th minute.

Sreenidi Deccan began the match at a high tempo and took the lead in the 10th minute. Fabrice Kah delivered a cross into the box, which was chested down by Castañeda for Brandon Vanlalremdika, whose scuffed shot fortunately rolled into the path of Lalromawia. The forward made no mistake from close range and slotted the ball into the back of the net. A couple of minutes later, Kah found the net himself, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

The home side doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute through a swift counter-attack. Fabrice Kah skipped past the challenge of two defenders on the left flank before drilling in a low cross towards the edge of the box, which found Castañeda. The striker unleashed a powerful right-footed strike that nestled into the bottom corner for his fifth goal of the season.

Chanmari halved the deficit just four minutes later after Sreenidi Deccan goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh failed to deal with a direct free-kick from centre-back Marlon Rangel. The defender’s effort from nearly 30 yards slipped through the experienced goalkeeper’s hands and into the back of the net.

The first half flew by with both teams playing entertaining attacking football, as Sreenidi looked to improve their goal difference while Chanmari pushed hard for an equaliser. Abhijith K saw his volley well saved by the Chanmari goalkeeper, while at the other end, Kamaljit Singh got down smartly to keep out an effort from Lalpekhlua.

Fabrice Kah, who proved difficult for the Chanmari defence to contain in the first half, saw a couple of his efforts drift narrowly wide of the post, while Lalromawia failed to generate enough power on his shot to trouble the goalkeeper as the Deccan Warriors headed into the break with a one-goal advantage.

The home side slowed the tempo in the second half, allowing Chanmari more possession and inviting them forward. The visitors produced the first effort after the restart with a long-range strike that was comfortably gathered by Kamaljit Singh, who looked composed after his earlier mistake in the first half. The goalkeeper was called into action again at the hour mark, this time producing a fine save to deny Lalpekhlua’s effort.

The Deccan Warriors showed little urgency to raise the tempo of the game, with the responsibility on Chanmari to search for an equaliser. Sreenidi were content to create openings through counter-attacks and set-pieces, and their best chance of the half came from one such situation.

Castañeda flicked on a corner at the near post and found Hadi Idrissou unmarked at the far post, but the Togolese defender failed to direct his header on target from six yards out, wasting a golden opportunity to extend his side’s lead.

The visitors could not mount any strong challenge as Sreenidi were comfortable in defence and eventually saw out the game to keep their title hopes alive.

Bengaluru, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bengaluru FC signed off on their campaign in thrilling fashion, maintaining an undefeated record away from home after a gritty 2-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC. The win capped off a stellar away run for the Blues, who secured five victories and two draws from their seven matches on the road.

Head coach Pep Munoz shook things up for this encounter, making a couple of notable changes to the starting XI that faced Jamshedpur FC. Youngster Soham Varshneya was handed his first-ever start for the Blues, while Shivaldo earned his first start of the season. The squad was further boosted by the return of Nikhil Poojary, who made the bench after a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury. It was also a landmark evening for talisman Ryan Williams, who celebrated a milestone half-century of appearances for the Blues in the Indian Super League.

Bengaluru dominated possession from the opening whistle, shifting the ball well and finding pockets of space in the final third, though that crucial final delivery initially eluded them. Soham looked lively early on, coming closest to breaking the deadlock when he cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a powerful effort that flew just over the crossbar. In the 29th minute, the youngster turned provider, delivering a gorgeous trivela pass from the right wing to find Williams in the box, only for a resilient Chennaiyin defense to block the resulting shot.

Despite Bengaluru's early dominance, it was Chennaiyin FC who struck first against the run of play. A swift counterattack in the 34th minute caught the Blues flat-footed, allowing Chukwu to clinically finish and give the visitors the lead.

However, the setback only galvanised the Blues. Just before the break, Fanai slipped a clever pass through to Williams, who celebrated his milestone match by rifling home a superb equaliser in the 43rd minute, sending the teams into the tunnel locked at 1-1.

Muñoz signalled his attacking intent right at the half-time whistle, bringing on Sivasakthi to replace Kuziev. As the second half progressed, the coach continued to shuffle his deck; Soham’s memorable full debut came to an end in the 58th minute to make way for the legendary Sunil Chhetri, and shortly after, academy sensation Serto Worneilen was introduced for his ISL debut, replacing Shivaldo in the 67th minute.

Between those changes, Bengaluru missed a golden opportunity to take the lead. In the 65th minute, a dazzling run by Williams took him all the way to the right byline before he cut the ball back perfectly for Sanchez. However, the Argentine’s close-range effort went straight at the Chennaiyin goalkeeper and then over the bar.

As the clock ticked down, the match seemed destined for a draw until a moment of pure magic found the debutant. In the 89th minute, a fierce shot from Fanai took a kind rebound in the box, falling perfectly into the path of Worneilen. The youngster pounced on the loose ball with veteran-like composure, firing it home to score his maiden ISL goal and send the stadium into raptures, sealing a memorable victory and preserving Bengaluru's proud unbeaten away streak.

Madrid, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Álvaro Arbeloa, whose four-month-long stint as Real Madrid coach is on its last leg, has backed Jose Mourinho's return to the multiple-time La Liga winner, claiming he will be "happy" to see the Portuguese former boss back at the helm.

Arbeloa's comments came on Saturday ahead of Real Madrid's penultimate-round match against Sevilla, as reports emerged that Mourinho is set to meet club president Florentino Perez next week to discuss a possible return.

Asked whether Mourinho is the solution for all the problems in the dressing room, Arbeloa said that he considers that Mourinho is the "number one".

Despite his troubles with star players and inability to win the confidence of the dressing room, Arbeloa said he does not understand the idea of an unmanageable dressing room.

"I don’t really understand the idea of an unmanageable dressing room, or at least I don’t share it. It’s not something that defines the Real Madrid dressing room. The day the club decides next season’s coach is something they will announce when they see fit," he said.

Asked how he would like to be remembered for his time at Real Madrid, Arbeloa said, "Real Madrid has millions of fans, and some will agree more than others. For me, the important thing—or at least what I’ve always felt—is the affection of the fans. I’m 43 years old, and of those 43, I’ve spent 20 as a youth player at Real Madrid, as a first-team player, as an ambassador, as a youth coach, and now, over the past months, as the first-team coach. That’s many years at the place I consider my home and my club. What I feel is a great deal of affection, and that’s it. I don’t think it’s a question I can really answer."

As it looks like his short tenure is over, Arbeloa was asked what has been the most difficult thing for him in these four months. The coach said not winning matches hurt him the most because the hopes of so many people rested on their shoulders.

"The most difficult thing in this club is always when you don’t win. And that’s what hurts me the most: not having helped the club and the players achieve their goal, which was to win titles. That’s what we all wanted. The hardest thing at Real Madrid is always when you don’t win because of the level of expectation we have and because of the hopes of so many people that rest on our shoulders. Not having been able to help them is what has hurt me the most and is undoubtedly the biggest disappointment I take away from these four months," he said.

Barcelona, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick paid an emotional tribute to departing striker Robert Lewandowski and said the Polish star 'deserves a big farewell' after confirming he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Real Betis, Flick revealed that Lewandowski had already informed the squad about his decision and said it had been a privilege to coach the veteran striker.

“Lewandowski spoke to the squad and said his goodbyes. It’s been a great chapter for him, and he made that very clear. For me, it’s been a privilege to work with him because he’s a true professional,” Flick said during the pre-match press conference.

The German coach praised Lewandowski’s mentality, professionalism, and influence on younger players, calling him a role model within the squad.

“He’s a role model, which is why he’s still performing at this level. Now he wants a new challenge, and we respect that. He’s a great person, a great player, and a fantastic example for the younger players,” he added.

Flick also confirmed that Lewandowski will start in Sunday’s game against Betis, which will also be his final appearance in front of the Barcelona fans at Camp Nou.

“At Camp Nou, in front of our fans, he deserves a great farewell,” Flick said.

The Barcelona coach admitted that replacing Lewandowski’s goals and leadership will be a major challenge for the club moving forward.

“He’s scored so many goals for us. We’ll miss him a lot. Now it’s up to us to find a way to replace him in the future,” he said.

Lewandowski announced earlier on Saturday that he will leave Barcelona after four successful seasons in which he won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups. Across all competitions, he scored 33 goals in 46 matches and claimed the Pichichi Trophy as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals.

Barcelona, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) La Liga champions Barcelona have been dealt a blow as their striker Robert Lewandowski has confirmed his exit at the end of the season when his contract with the Spanish giant expires. The striker is set to depart after winning three La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups with the Catalan giants following his move from Bayern in the summer of 2022.

Lewandowski took on the responsibility of leading the attack soon after his arrival and quickly became the team’s main reference point up front. In total, he is leaving the club with 119 goals in 191 appearances, making him the team’s 14th-highest goalscorer of all time.

The 37-year-old penned down an emotional message for his fans as he departs after a glorious stay at Camp Nou.

“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. 4 seasons, 3 championships. I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days," Lewandowski wrote in a post on Instagram.

“Catalonia is my place on earth. Thank you to everyone I met along the way during these beautiful four years. A special thank you to President Laporta for giving me the chance to live the most incredible chapter of my career. Barca is back where it belongs,” he added.

Barcelona also thanked Lewandowski with a special post on X. “Came as a star. Leaves as legend.Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every battle, and every magic moment wearing these colours. Culer forever,” The club wrote.

Born in Warsaw on August 21, 1988, Robert Lewandowski arrived at Barca following a glittering career in European football. He wasted little time proving his worth. In his very first season, he played a key role in Barça winning both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2022/23. Across all competitions, he scored 33 goals in 46 matches and claimed the Pichichi Trophy as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals.

Birmingham, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Aston Villa secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after a commanding 4-2 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League on Friday, with Ollie Watkins starring with a brilliant brace.

The victory moved Aston Villa up to fourth spot on 62 points from 37 games, knocking Liverpool down to fifth on 59 points and leaving them with an anxious battle to secure their own Champions League place.

Unai Emery’s side produced a clinical attacking display at Villa Park to maintain their magnificent campaign and head into next week’s Europa League final against Freiburg full of confidence.

Liverpool controlled long periods of the first half but Villa opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Morgan Rogers had room down the left side of the penalty area and Lucas Digne found him with a pass, and Rogers curled a composed finish into the far corner.

Liverpool were soon level in the second half when captain Virgil van Dijk headed home Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick in the 52nd minute. Moments later the visitors were almost back in the game when teenage winger Rio Ngumoha thumped the base of the post from long range. However, Villa regained control when Szoboszlai made a costly error, enabling Watkins to re-establish the home side’s lead. The England striker took his chance ruthlessly before Villa continued to threaten with Emiliano Buendia also hitting the post with a curling effort. Watkins eventually got his second goal of the night, quickest to react to a rebound in the six-yard box, firmly putting Villa in control as Liverpool’s defensive woes continued.

Van Dijk added a second headed goal deep into stoppage time to reduce the deficit, but it did little to change the outcome as Liverpool slumped to a 12th league defeat of the season and extended their poor recent run to one point from their last three matches.

For Villa, though, it was a memorable night as they achieved one of their biggest targets of the campaign by returning to Europe’s elite competition, with the added prospect of lifting the Europa League trophy in Istanbul next week.

Kalyani/Mumbai, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Football Club were crowned champions of the I-League 2 2025-26 and secured promotion back to the Indian Football League 2026-27 after playing out a 1-1 draw against United SC at the Kalyani Stadium in Kalyani.

In another crucial fixture at the Neville D’Souza Ground in Mumbai, FC Bengaluru United and GMSC also played out a 1-1 draw, a result that confirmed promotion for the Bengaluru side while helping GMSC avoid relegation.

GMSC, who began the day in the relegation spot with four points, earned the vital point needed to move to five points, level with NEROCA FC. However, a superior head-to-head record ensured the Mumbai side stayed up in I-League 2.

FC Bengaluru United and United SC both finished the season on 15 points, but the Bengaluru outfit secured promotion courtesy of goal difference, while United SC’s wait for a return to the second tier extended to 12 years.

At the Kalyani Stadium, United SC started the match on the front foot at their home ground, attacking the Delhi FC goal with intent through M. Sreenath, M. Arunlal, Sumay Shome and Md. Amil Naim, while Bickey Thapa and Prasanta Das controlled the midfield. The first attempt on target came from Amil, whose long-range effort was comfortably stopped by the Delhi goalkeeper.

United SC looked fluid whenever they moved forward, with their attacking players troubling the opposition defence through their pace and movement. Amil Naim once again found space down the left flank and combined well with Sumay, but the striker’s effort was well saved by Lalmuansanga. The goalkeeper was called into action again moments later to deny Sumay once more after the forward had been set up neatly at the end of a fine driving run through midfield by Prasanta Das.

Both sides enjoyed promising moments in attack but were unable to find the breakthrough as they went into the interval with the scores level at 0-0.

United SC took the lead eight minutes after the restart from a corner kick. Susovan Ghosh, who had hit the crossbar just minutes earlier, made no mistake this time as he planted a powerful header past the goalkeeper to give his side a crucial lead.

Delhi SC struck back in the 66th minute with a well-worked move. Akash Tirkey threaded a through ball into space for Samson Keishing, who unselfishly squared it across the box for the unmarked Himanshu Jangra. The league’s top scorer had the simplest of tasks, tapping the ball into the empty net to bring his side level.

Knowing that only a win would help them gain promotion, United SC pushed numbers forward looking for the decisive winning goal, but could not trouble the goalkeeper. The best chance of this period actually fell to Delhi SC, for their goalscorer Himanshu, whose shot was well saved by the goalkeeper.

In the end, Delhi SC held on to the draw to secure promotion to the Indian Football League as champions of I-League 2 and extend the 12-year wait of United SC to play in the Indian Football League.

The visitors made an early breakthrough in the fourth minute through Lijo K. Lalramdinsanga Ralte initiated the move with a pass down the right flank for Shunjanthan Ragui, whose well-weighted cross into the box was met by Lijo with a deft near-post header to give FC Bengaluru United the lead.

GMSC gradually settled into the contest and began enjoying more possession, with Kean Lewis posing a constant threat down the left wing. Despite building momentum and crafting a few promising openings, the hosts were unable to break down a disciplined Bengaluru defensive setup in the first half.

Their best opportunity came in the 18th minute when Advait Ashok Shinde combined neatly with Sujal Jeetendra Ghanekar and Kamran Ateeque Ansari before firing from inside the box, but the effort lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Manjunath Hirekurbar.

GMSC responded immediately after the restart. In the 47th minute, Kean Lewis struck a powerful free-kick from the edge of the area that slipped through the grasp of Hirekurbar, allowing substitute Shravan Shetty to react quickest and slot home the equaliser.

The remainder of the contest saw both sides push for a winner, although clear-cut opportunities remained scarce. GMSC looked threatening on the counter-attack, while FC Bengaluru United attempted to dominate possession and patiently build their attacks.

Late efforts from Dhruv Sharma and Ashley Alban Koli tested the GMSC defence, but goalkeeper Paramjeetshing Baghel remained composed to preserve parity. At the other end, GMSC were denied by resolute defending, with Abdul Hannan making several crucial interventions.

The draw proved enough for FC Bengaluru United to finish second in the standings with 15 points, edging out United SC on goal difference to secure promotion. It was also enough for GMSC to finish above NEROCA and avoid relegation to I-League 3.

Liverpool, May 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Seamus Coleman will bring an end to his remarkable 17-year journey with Everton F.C. at the end of the season after confirming he will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

The 37-year-old defender, who joined Everton from Sligo Rovers F.C. in January 2009 for just £60,000, has become one of the club’s modern-day legends during his long stay at Goodison Park.

Coleman revealed that Sunday’s home match against Sunderland A.F.C. will be his final appearance at the stadium as an Everton player. The Irish player has been offered a coaching role by the club, but says he will take time during the summer before deciding on his future.

“After more than 17 years at this great football club, I've decided this season will be my last as a player here,” Coleman said in a statement released by the club.

“I want to thank the fans for their unbelievable support. You've helped me in more ways than you could imagine. I've always tried my best to put Everton Football Club first, and you all mean the world to me.”

Coleman has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and made only three Premier League appearances this campaign. His only start came in November, but the right-back lasted just 10 minutes before suffering another injury setback.

Despite those struggles, Coleman leaves behind an incredible legacy at Everton. In 2024, he became the club’s all-time Premier League appearance holder, surpassing former goalkeeper Tim Howard. He currently has 372 Premier League appearances, along with 22 goals and 24 assists.

If Coleman features against Sunderland, it will mark his 434th appearance for Everton in all competitions, moving him into the top 10 on the club’s all-time appearance list ahead of club greats Dixie Dean and Leon Osman.

The Irishman was appointed Everton captain in 2019 and led the club 140 times during a difficult but memorable period in the team’s history. He earned widespread respect for his leadership, commitment, and connection with supporters both on and off the pitch.

“I also thank my managers, teammates, and all the staff at Everton,” Coleman added. “They've seen me happy, sad, angry, emotional, but the greater cause has always been Everton Football Club.”

“The Club has been unbelievable with me. They've offered me an opportunity to stay on at the Football Club. The manager and staff have been great, and I think with it being such an important decision over my future, I'm going to take a nice, long holiday and look back on what has been an amazing time as an Everton footballer,” he concluded.

Chennai, May 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chennaiyin FC will bring the curtain down on their Indian Super League 2026 campaign when they host Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday evening.

With one final match left in the season, the Marina Machans will look to sign off on a positive note in front of their home supporters. Head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda echoed the same outlook in his pre-match press conference on Friday, while highlighting the challenge Bengaluru will pose.

“I think they (Bengaluru) are a good team with a new coach. Initially, when the new coach came in, they had some issues adapting, which is normal, but I think they are better now. They play similarly to us, they want the ball, they want control in midfield, and they crowd the central areas with a lot of players. They overload the midfield, and I think that will be one of the key challenges for us,” analysed Miranda.

“They also have some very good players. They won their last game against Jamshedpur, and no one had beaten Jamshedpur in Jamshedpur before that, so they are on a good run. But again, like I said, this is our home ground, and we will fight. That is for sure.”

Miranda pointed to several underlying metrics as evidence of the progress Chennaiyin have made despite a difficult campaign. The Marina Machans rank among the league’s stronger sides in terms of possession across all thirds of the pitch, vertical progression, penalty-box entries, and chance creation. However, the head coach admitted that the team’s low conversion rate in front of goal has ultimately cost them valuable points over the course of the season.

“The club has a rich history and has always been among the top sides. This season has been the most difficult, and for me, I am the first person to take responsibility because it was my job from the onset. The club was very clear with me about what was available and what could be made available,” the head coach said.

“I accepted that responsibility, and it was my duty to make things work in a positive way. I can honestly say that I tried with everything I had. You can see it in the data and the numbers as well—we posted some really good statistics in several areas. But statistics and data do not necessarily give you points.”

Joining the head coach for the press conference was academy graduate S Prakadeswaran, one of Chennaiyin’s brightest sparks this season. The 19-year-old recently scored his first senior goal against Jamshedpur FC and spoke glowingly about the support he has received from Miranda, his teammates, and the club’s fans throughout his breakthrough campaign.

“I have come directly from U13 to ISL. The beginning was tough, but over time I worked hard in the training, and learnt a lot from the coach. He spoke to me about how he used to play, gave me examples, and explained what I have to be like. It helped me and I have developed my game a lot,” Prakadeswaran said. “The whole team is very supportive. If there are any problems, members explain and teach me how to rectify them and play based on the situations. They speak a lot with me about how and when to be switched on and I have learned plenty.”

“I didn't expect this much support from the fans. A lot of fans messaged me personally, to show their support. Their chants and encouragement when I'm entering the pitch give me confidence,” he added.

Lastly, Miranda confirmed he will be without a host of players for the final match, including the injured Elsinho, Mohammed Ali Bemammer, Laldinliana Renthlei, Vivek S, and Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, as well as the suspended Alberto Noguera.

Madrid, May 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Real Madrid beat Real Oviedo 2-0 at home in a match that had no bearing on La Liga but underlined the difficult atmosphere surrounding the club.

The game came after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called new elections at a press conference on Tuesday in which he attacked the press, and after FC Barcelona was confirmed as champion last weekend with a win over Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

Fans at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium booed the team onto the pitch.

Young striker Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring two minutes before the break, and Jude Bellingham added the second against Oviedo, whose relegation had been confirmed before kick-off.

Kylian Mbappe was booed by the Real Madrid fans when he replaced Gonzalo with 20 minutes to go, and every time he touched the ball, with fans accusing him of a lack of commitment, reports Xinhua.

Gonzalo put our team ahead just before halftime, and Bellingham sealed the 2-0 victory in the 80th minute. The first chance came in the sixth minute and was very clear. Gonzalo dribbled past E. Bailly, reached the byline, and delivered a ball to Mastantuono, whose right-footed shot was saved by Aaron.

Madrid tried again 15 minutes later with a long-range shot from Trent that narrowly missed the target.

Oviedo responded and nearly opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a close-range effort from Nacho VM that went over the crossbar. Just when it seemed Madrid would head into halftime goalless, Carreras intercepted the ball in the 44th minute and passed it to Brahim, who set up Gonzalo.

After the break, two of the previous three protagonists created danger again, albeit with swapped roles. In the 57th minute, a backheel pass from Brahim inside the box found Carreras, whose left-footed effort was denied by another save from the visiting goalkeeper.

Oviedo had a chance to equalise in the 63rd minute, but Nacho VM shot wide in a one-on-one with Courtois. Then, in the 80th minute, Bellingham secured the 2-0 win with a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the box.

Rio de Janeiro, May 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Carlo Ancelotti has extended his contract as manager of Brazil's national team until 2030, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said.

The 66-year-old Italian took over as Brazil’s head coach in May 2025 and secured the team’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins next month in the United States, Mexico and Canada. In total, he has been in charge for ten matches, with five wins, two draws, and three losses.

“I arrived in Brazil a year ago. From the very first minute, I understood what football means to this country," Ancelotti told the CBF’s official website. "For a year now, we’ve been working to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world. But the CBF and I want more. More wins, more time, more work."

"We are very happy to announce that we will continue together for another four years," said Ancelotti. "We’re going all the way to the 2030 World Cup. I want to thank the CBF for their trust. Thank you, Brazil, for the warm welcome and all the affection."

Ancelotti has overseen five wins, two draws and three losses since his appointment.

CBF President Samir Xaud called the extension a historic day. “Carlo Ancelotti’s contract extension represents another firm step in our commitment to providing the five-time World Cup-winning national team with an increasingly strong, modern, and competitive structure,” he said.

Brazil will begin its 2026 World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 13 before also facing Haiti and Scotland in the group stage.

One of the most experienced minds in football, Ancelotti will be a newcomer among his peers in North America, as this will be his first global finals as a coach.

He previously participated in the tournament as a player and as a member of Italy’s coaching staff. Ancelotti will also be the first foreigner to coach Brazil at a World Cup.

On Monday, Ancelotti will announce his initial roster of 26 players for the global showpiece

Kolkata, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Relegation-threatened Mohammedan Sporting Club will face an absolute do-or-die battle for their survival as they welcome title-chasing Mumbai City FC for a high-stakes clash in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 fixture at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Friday.

The Black and White Brigade are fighting for survival and will look to leverage their home support to orchestrate a massive upset to stay afloat, knowing that anything less than a win will confirm their relegation. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC arrive aiming for a clinical away performance and a move up to the second spot.

Mohammedan Sporting will aim to build on their recent performances following a challenging 1-3 defeat away to Kerala Blasters FC. Under the guidance of head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo, the Kolkata outfit have shown glimpses of attacking promise, but have struggled to find any consistent rhythm.

Their fate hangs by the thinnest of threads, and the mathematical equation is absolute: if Mohammedan SC lose or draw, they are relegated. They have to win at any cost. A much-needed victory would take them to six points, desperately keeping their slim survival hopes alive ahead of the final run-in.

They have conceded 26 goals, the most in the ISL, while scoring a league-low seven, and are yet to secure a single victory this season.

For the hosts, top goalscorers Mahitosh Roy (two goals) and Thokchom Adison Singh (two goals), alongside leading assist providers Hira Mondal (one goal, two assists) and Lalngaihsaka (two assists), will be key players to watch, though they will have to navigate the fixture without the suspended Amarjit Singh.

Head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo underscored the fixture’s significance, emphasising the importance of home advantage and pledging to fight until the very end to keep their survival hopes alive.

“Our plan is that we approach every match with the objective to win the game. But sometimes the circumstances are beyond our control. The good thing is that this game we are playing at home, and we don't have to travel,” Wadoo stated. “We will have hope till the end. Because we still have two games, if we can reach nine points, Chennaiyin FC also have nine points, we have to fight, and this match is very important for us. We have been fighting since the beginning, and we promise to fight until the end.”

Defender Pukhrambam Dinesh Meitei expressed his readiness and focus ahead of the crucial contest. “Now everything is fine,” he noted confidently. “I am ready for tomorrow's match against Mumbai City FC. We will have to give our all and win our remaining two matches. The team is motivated to perform at their best and win tomorrow.”

Mumbai City FC, meanwhile, travel to Kolkata hoping to bounce back from a frustrating 1-2 home defeat against East Bengal FC.

Occupying seventh place with 19 points from 11 matches (5W, 4D, 2L), Mumbai City FC will view this fixture as a prime opportunity to arrest a recent slide. The Islanders are remarkably winless in their last four league games (D2, L2), with their last victory coming nearly 40 days ago on April 5 against Odisha FC.

However, a win on Friday would elevate them to 22 points, vaulting them straight back into second position and firming up their title credentials.

The visitors will draw massive confidence from their away form, having collected 11 of their 19 points on the road (W3, D2, L1), giving them the second-best away record in the league.

They will look to the creative midfield presence of Joni Kauko (two assists) and Brandon Fernandes (two goals, one assist), alongside the dynamic attacking duo of top scorer Lallianzuala Chhangte (four goals) and Noufal P.N (three goals, one assist), to spearhead their attacking transitions and unlock the hosts’ defence.

Head coach Petr Kratky highlighted the non-negotiable need for maximum points and warned his side against underestimating their resilient opponents. “It's very simple. We have two games to go, six points. We have to win. There's no other way. If we want to achieve our targets, then we have to win the next two games," Kratky stated.

"Mentality will be the big thing. We cannot underestimate them because they are at the bottom of the ladder; they can hurt us on counterattacks and set pieces. We have to make sure our energy, our fight, and our desire to win are there from the first minute to the last.”

Forward Jorge Ortiz reinforced the squad's motivation heading into the business end of the season, urging the team to focus purely on their own game rather than the league table.

“We don't need to check the standings or anything else. We just need to focus on ourselves and win the next two games, and we'll see," Ortiz noted. "The last two games for us were very good, and we deserved a better result. Now our target is the next one against Mohammedan; to win, keep the same mentality, and play the same way.”

Mumbai City FC have completely dominated this fixture. The Islanders boast a flawless competitive record against this opponent, having won all four of their previous meetings across all competitions and failed to concede in three of those matches. Their most recent clash in January 2025 saw the Islanders secure a commanding 3-0 home victory in Mumbai.

Friday’s fixture at Kishore Bharati Krirangan carries immense weight for both sides. Pre-match analysis heavily favours the Islanders. On the other hand, for Mohammedan SC, there is no tomorrow. An upset would inject hope into their stuttering campaign, but a draw or defeat would definitively confirm their relegation.

Shillong, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Title hopefuls Shillong Lajong FC will face Rajasthan United FC in a crucial Championship Phase clash of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Friday, with the hosts needing victory to keep their title hopes alive.

With two rounds remaining in the Championship Phase, Diamond Harbour FC lead the standings with 28 points, six clear of both Shillong and Sreenidi Deccan FC on 22, while Rajasthan sit fourth with 17 points.

For Shillong, the equation is straightforward: they must defeat Rajasthan to stay alive in the title race. A draw or defeat would leave their hopes hanging by a thread. Victory would take Shillong to 25 points ahead of a final-day clash against Diamond Harbour, but even then, they would need Dempo SC to defeat the leaders first.

If Diamond Harbour win against Dempo, they would move to an unreachable 31 points, while even a draw would take them to 29, beyond Shillong’s maximum possible tally of 28. Shillong’s route, therefore, is clear: beat Rajasthan United, hope Dempo defeat Diamond Harbour, and then win the final-day showdown themselves.

Shillong head coach Birendra Thapa acknowledged the significance of the contest, saying, “If we win, the hope is still there. But if we lose or draw, then the chances of the title hope are gone, so we have to look for the second place.”

Rajasthan may no longer be title contenders with a maximum possible tally of 23 points, but they could still decisively shape the race. A win over Shillong would virtually end the Meghalaya side’s challenge, while even a draw would leave the Red Dragons with very little margin for error heading into the final round.

Despite a difficult run of results, Rajasthan assistant coach Vikas Rawat insisted the Desert Warriors remain fully focused on finishing the season strongly. “It is difficult after the results that we have got, but that doesn't make us a bad team. We are still together, and we are working very hard every single day for this match, one match at a time. So now it is Shillong, we are here to win the game, nothing else on the mind,” he said.

Rajasthan will enter the contest after suffering a 2-5 defeat against Diamond Harbour in their previous outing, but defender Abhishek Ambekar believes the side still has enough motivation to close out the campaign positively. “Personally, I think our team has done well so far. In the championship stage, there has been some adversity that we have faced, but I think it's not over till the last result. So still two games remaining and we will try to end this on a very positive note,” Ambekar said.

Shillong will enter the contest after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sreenidi, a result that cost them valuable ground in the title chase.

Despite the setback against Sreenidi, Shillong defender Saveme Tariang stressed the importance of building on the positives from that performance, “Of course, we are a bit disappointed not to take three points, but there were positives in our performance. We created chances and showed a good fight. Now it's about learning from that and being more clinical in the final third,” he said.

The fixture also carries the backdrop of an evenly balanced rivalry. Across five meetings between the two sides in the competition, both teams have registered one win apiece, while three encounters have ended in draws. Their last meeting in March 2026 finished 1-1, with Everbrightson Sana scoring for Shillong and Ambekar netting for Rajasthan.

Shillong’s biggest strength this season has been their balance at both ends of the pitch. The Red Dragons have scored 21 goals, the second-highest tally in the league, while also boasting the league’s best defensive record with only 10 goals conceded. Their attacking unit, featuring Sana (five goals, two assists), Phrangki Buam (six goals, one assist), and Treimiki Lamurong (four goals, one assist), has consistently delivered in key moments and will once again shoulder the responsibility in the final third.

Rajasthan may no longer be in the title picture, but they possess enough firepower to trouble Shillong. Gerard Artigas (three goals), Amadou Soukouna (four goals), and Pangambam Naoba Meitei (two goals, two assists) remain central to the Desert Warriors’ attacking threat and could prove decisive if spaces open up during the game.

Shillong will also view the fixture as an opportunity to sign off at home on a positive note. Speaking ahead of the club’s final home match of the season, Thapa said the players were determined to reward the supporters for their backing throughout the campaign.

“After the practice, I spoke to my players. We have done tremendously well this season, especially at home and away. So tomorrow is the last home match, and we want to give something to the fans, to the public, to the crowd of Shillong, something to cheer about. And the best gift is to win the game and get three points.”

With little margin for error remaining, Shillong know only victory will keep their title pursuit alive, while Rajasthan have the opportunity to throw the Championship Phase race wide open heading into the final round.

Bambolim (Goa), May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a repeat of last year's final, two teams from Punjab battled it out once again, with Punjab FC defending their AIFF Junior League title by securing a thrilling 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory against Minerva Academy FC after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium in Goa on Thursday.

Punjab FC took the lead through Jasmeet Singh (38'), while Minerva Academy FC equalised in the 49th minute through Md Azam Khan.

In the shoot-out, Pawandeep Singh, Aayush Koul, Akash P, Kabyansh Rai, and Jasmeet Singh scored for the winners, while Konthoujam Denamoni, Md Azam Khan, and Greatson Hidam converted for Minerva Academy FC. Ramung Zimik’s spot-kick was saved by the goalkeeper.

For his vital contributions, especially the match-winning penalty save, Augustasya Gupta was named the Player of the Match, while Jasmeet Singh's stellar campaign earned him the Player of the Tournament accolade.

Minerva Academy FC entered the match aiming to dictate the tempo, and they quickly established control of the midfield. The first 30 minutes were entirely dominated by Minerva Academy FC. They controlled the ball from the outset, eventually boasting 67 per cent possession and fashioning seven clear chances in the first half alone. However, despite their territorial dominance, they struggled to find the decisive cutting edge in the final third.

Punjab FC gradually began to claw their way back into the game after the half-hour mark. Against the run of play, Punjab FC broke the deadlock in the 38th minute.

Capitalising on a precise through ball from Kamlesh Chand, Jasmeet Singh found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He comfortably beat the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the net to give his side the lead, with the goal proving to be the difference between the two teams going into the break.

The second half began with high-intensity action right from the restart. Punjab FC earned a free-kick from a dangerous position just outside the penalty area early on, but the attempt yielded no reward.

Moments later, at the other end, Minerva Academy FC equalised through a moment of individual brilliance from MD Azam Khan in the 49th minute. Surging down the left flank, he dribbled past two defenders before taking a shot. While his initial effort was blocked and deflected, Azam reacted quickest to the rebound and put the ball past the goalkeeper to level the tie just four minutes after the restart.

Azam came very close to scoring again in the 53rd minute, but an excellent clearance from Akash P resulted in a corner, denying Minerva Academy FC the lead.

The second half developed into a tense, end-to-end battle. Punjab FC came close to regaining the lead when substitute Arambam Deepak Singh’s excellent effort was acrobatically saved by the Minerva Academy FC goalkeeper to keep the scores level.

The final 10 minutes of regulation time saw Minerva Academy FC create multiple openings, but they could not apply the finishing touch. The referee added eight minutes of stoppage time, during which Minerva Academy FC continued to push forward, but neither side could find a winner, sending the match into a penalty shoot-out.

Punjab FC took the first penalty, with substitute Pawandeep Singh converting to give them the advantage. Konthoujam Denamoni responded for Minerva Academy FC to make it 1-1. Aayush Koul then scored for Punjab FC, and Azam Khan immediately matched him to make it 2-2.

The turning point arrived in the third round of penalties. Akash P confidently made it 3-2 for Punjab FC. However, Minerva Academy FC substitute Ramung Zimik saw his effort saved, as Punjab FC goalkeeper Augustasya Gupta pulled off a brilliant diving stop.

Substitute Kabyansh Rai then calmly converted his spot-kick to make it 4-2, piling the pressure on Minerva Academy FC. Greatson Hidam converted his penalty to keep Minerva Academy FC alive, but it was to no avail. Punjab FC skipper Jasmeet Singh took responsibility for the decisive fifth penalty, holding his nerve to find the back of the net and secure the victory.

London, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Mikel Arteta, manager of West London club Arsenal, has revealed that Jurrien Timber is pushing hard to regain fitness before the end of the club’s campaign, with the defender continuing his recovery from injury.

Timber has been sidelined since March after suffering a problem during Arsenal’s victory over Everton, forcing him off before half-time. His absence has created a growing concern for the Gunners, especially at right-back, where injuries have further stretched Arteta’s defensive options.

The Arsenal boss admitted the Dutch international remains determined to return as soon as possible and has stayed closely involved with the squad despite being unavailable for selection.

Arteta said Timber has shown encouraging progress in recent days and is working relentlessly behind the scenes to speed up his comeback. “He’s feeling better and improving little by little. We are trying to get him available as quickly as we can, but we still have to see how things develop," Arteta told reporters on Thursday.

The Spaniard also praised Timber’s attitude during rehabilitation, highlighting the defender’s influence within the group even while injured. “He’s an extremely important player for us,” Arteta added. “Everyone knows the quality and leadership he brings to the team, and he’s doing absolutely everything possible to help.”

Arsenal’s defensive worries have deepened with Ben White ruled out for the remainder of the season because of a knee ligament injury. Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori also picked up a concern after being substituted at half-time during Arsenal’s recent win over West Ham.

Arteta admitted it remains unclear whether Calafiori will recover in time for Arsenal’s upcoming clash against Burnley, although initial signs suggest the issue may not be serious.

With injuries piling up in defence, Arteta hinted that Cristhian Mosquera could be considered as an alternative option, while also stressing the need for tactical flexibility during the closing weeks of the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are in a neck-to-neck fight with Manchester City in the Premier League 2025-26 title race. They are also preparing for the UEFA Champions League final to be played against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

Liverpool, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Liverpool’s Arne Slot says he has every reason to believe he will remain manager of the club next season despite increasing criticism after a disappointing campaign.

The Dutch coach, who guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield, has come under pressure following a difficult year in which the club failed to challenge for major trophies and are still battling to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool’s recent performances have frustrated supporters, especially after their draw against Chelsea FC at Anfield, where boos were heard from sections of the crowd after some of Slot’s decisions during the match.

Despite the criticism and growing speculation over his future, the Liverpool manager insisted that he still feels supported internally and remains involved in planning for next season, including transfer discussions and pre-season preparations.

“I don't think I am deciding that alone by myself, but I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season,” Slot told reporters ahead of the Aston Villa FC clash. “First of all, I am contracted to this club, and second of all, from all the talks we are having. That is my take on it,” he added.

Even with the criticism, Slot admitted he understands why questions are being asked after a season that has fallen below expectations. “If you don't have the best season, especially if you compare it with last season, if you compare it with other seasons, you might have a different debate, but if you compare it with last season, this has definitely not been a great season, then it is also normal that criticism comes.”

The Liverpool manager also said that criticism is now a normal part of modern football, especially for clubs expected to compete for trophies every season. “We have all had our share, and with all, I mean the players have had their share, the manager has had their share, and other people in the club have had their share. That is how things work nowadays if you don't win the league.”

Slot added that public debate around managers has become common across football and insisted he respects supporters and pundits having their own opinions.

“I think the world has gone to it if a manager or a club doesn't have their best season, there is always a debate about that - it is not only Liverpool, it is all around the world,” he said. “That is the new reality in football. It is not up to me to judge the people who judge me; they have every right to have their opinion, and in these modern times, everyone can share their opinion as well,” he added.

London, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Australian midfielder Katrina Gorry will leave West Ham United Women when her contract expires at the end of June, the club confirmed on Thursday. The 33-year-old captain will play her final match for the Hammers against Manchester City Women in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Saturday.

Gorry joined West Ham in January 2024 and quickly became an important figure at the club. Although an ankle injury cut short her first season in East London, she returned strongly and was later named club captain ahead of her first full campaign in England.

The Australian footballer played every WSL match during the 2024/25 season and scored three goals as West Ham recorded their best-ever home campaign, setting club records for most points and most home wins in a single WSL season.

Off the pitch, Gorry was also praised for her leadership and openness about personal challenges, including overcoming an eating disorder and her IVF journey to parenthood. She won the WSL’s Player Champion of Change award last season.

This season, the midfielder made 18 appearances in all competitions and also helped the Australian women's national soccer team reach the final of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup on home soil.

“It’s an emotional time to be leaving West Ham United, but I know this is the right decision for my family and me. I’ve enjoyed so many incredible moments over the last two-and-a-half years, and captaining this team has been the greatest honour," She said in a statement released by West Ham United on X.

"West Ham is a special Club with an incredible fan base that always shows up. The fans have seen so much growth - in us as players, as a team, and as a Club - and I’m proud to have been part of that journey.

"I’ve felt at home ever since I arrived. I came here with a two-year-old daughter, and I’m leaving East London with an even bigger family - not just my son, but the West Ham family too: the fans, the staff, and everyone connected to the Club. The support I’ve received from everyone will stay close to my heart forever. I leave a better person and a better player, and for that I’ll always be grateful,” she added.

Cincinnati, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) A brace by captain Lionel Messi and strikes from attackers Mateo Silvetti and German Berterame Inter Miami CF secured another valuable three points on the road with a thrilling 5-3 comeback win against FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium.

The win saw Inter Miami tie FC Cincinnati (2024) for the most points through the opening nine road games of an MLS regular season (22).

Miami pulled ahead in the 24th minute, with Messi capitalizing on a defensive mistake to score from inside the box and take his tally to 10 goals this regular season.

Kevin Denkey converted a penalty to equalise for the hosts right before the half in the 44th minute.

The second half started with Pavel Bucha giving Cincinnati the lead in the 49th minute. Messi brought things back to level in the 55th minute, sending the ball to the back of the net with a first-time left footed effort from the center of the box after a precise delivery from De Paul from the right.

The goal was Messi’s 11th this regular season, while the assist was the sixth for De Paul this league campaign.

Evander scored to give Cincinnati the lead in the 64th minute. Miami’s attacking unit was then clinical in the remaining minutes to turn the match on its head.

Second-half substitute Mateo Silvetti tied the match at 3-3 in the 79th minute, with Messi finding the young attacker in space down the left end of the box, before he slotted the ball away at the bottom-right corner.

The goal took Silvetti’s tally to three this league campaign, while the assist was Messi’s fifth.

Berterame restored Inter Miami’s lead in the 84th minute, taking advantage of a loose ball following a free kick delivery into the box and striking from close range as he took his tally to four this regular season.

An own goal from goalkeeper Roman Caletano in the 89th minute after a shot from Messi that bounced off the right post rounded out the 3-5 comeback victory for Miami in Cincinnati.

Manchester, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manchester City reduced Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League to just two points with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

City dominated from start to finish - save for the odd Palace attack - and went into the break with goals from Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush giving Pep Guardiola’s side a two-goal lead.

Savinho added a late third to make it 3-0 in what was an enjoyable evening for a City team that will now look forward to this weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.

City will now hope Burnley can do them a gigantic favour against Arsenal, and they boast a better goal difference than the Gunners, should there be another twist. Palace, meanwhile, remain 15th in the table on 44 points.

City almost fell behind after two minutes when Jean-Phillippe Mateta’s shot crossed the line only for the offside flag to deny the visitors the lead.

With so many changes made, the Blues struggled to find rhythm early on against a Palace side who were happy to drop deep and defend in numbers.

As heavy rain fell at the Etihad, the first half-hour passed without incident. On 32 minutes however, a lovely back-heeled pass from Phil Foden and a smart angled low shot from Antoine Semenyo and City were finally ahead.

It was the 100th Premier League goal involvement by Foden and eight minutes later, he had his 101st as he helped on Josko Gvardiol’s cross from the left and Omar Marmoush did the rest, burying a low shot from close range to make it 2-0.

The impressive Gvardiol then saw a towering header brilliantly clawed out by Dean Henderson just before the break in a bright and breezy finish to the half by the Blues.

In control and continually probing, the Blues looked for what would surely be a killer third goal without creating too many clearcut opportunities.

A raft of substitutions was made by both sides – including a rapturous welcome for John Stones whose name had rang around the Etihad for most of the game – and the game seemed to be edging towards a sanguine conclusion.

But Rayan Cherki had other ideas and just minutes after his introduction, his burst forward and perfectly-weighted pass found Savinho who neatly placed the ball past Henderson to wrap up the points

Lens, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) With one game of its 2025–2026 Ligue 1 campaign to spare, Paris Saint-Germain’s men’s team has been officially crowned as the champions of France after a 2-0 win over Racing Club de Lens.

The win over Lens was also PSG's 11th away victory of 2025–2026, making for the highest number of wins earned on the road by any team in the division.

PSG have now won their 14th top-flight title of all time and – for the first time in the club’s history – their fifth Ligue 1 trophy in a row, which takes their total number of honours up to 59.

This is also the fourth honour of 2025–2026 for PSG – France’s most decorated football club of all time – following on from the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the Trophee des Champions, the latter of which came thanks to a 4-1 penalty-shootout win over Olympique de Marseille after a 2-2 draw in Kuwait City on 8th January.

"We showed the level and the ambition required to finish on top this season. We are very happy because this is the most difficult of the three trophies to win. Lens have had a great championship. Today, playing in this stadium was a big game, because next season, both of us will be in the Champions League. We need to enjoy the moment," PSG coach Luis Enrique said.

Now, having reached their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final, Luis Enrique’s men will look to create yet more history against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.

"We’re very proud of this 14th French league title, which, for the first time in the club’s history, is our fifth in a row. Congratulations to the players, to Luis Enrique, to Luís Campos and to all of the backroom staff for the exceptional job that they have done. This success is the result both of a top-notch team effort from everyone at Paris Saint-Germain and of the strength of our academy, particularly with five young players making their professional debuts.

"Our focus is now fully on our upcoming assignment in Budapest, with even more work to be done as we continue to make history together, said Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Paris Saint-Germain President.

Madrid, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Already-crowned La Liga champion FC Barcelona lost 1-0 away to Deportivo Alaves.

Three days after securing the title, Barcelona appeared to suffer the effects of its celebrations on Sunday and Monday, producing a performance well below its usual level.

The only goal of the match came from Ibrahim Diabate in the final play of the first half. The Alavés striker capitalized on a layoff inside the area to beat goalkeeper Szczesny with a low shot and score his first goal at Mendizorrotza.

The win lifted Alaves out of the bottom three and kept its survival hopes alive.

Desperate for points to move clear of the relegation zone, the hosts gradually grew into the game. Szczesny was called into action more and more before finally being beaten with almost the last kick of the first half.

Following a corner, Ibrahim Diabate got the better of Marc Bernal and fired an unstoppable volley past the Polish goalkeeper.

Diabate nearly added a second early in the second half, but Szczesny reacted well to deny the Ivorian’s header. For long stretches, the home side seemed torn between protecting their slender lead and pushing for another goal, though they were generally more effective at the former.

In the closing stages, Alaves defended deep around their own penalty area, doing everything possible to disrupt Barca’s passing rhythm and run down the clock. There were few clear chances, little flowing football, and surprisingly little stoppage time either.

When the final whistle sounded, Alaves celebrated a vital victory in their fight for survival. Barca had already done their celebrating earlier in the week, but hopes of a 100-point league campaign were now over.

Elsewhere, Sevilla won 3-2 away to Villarreal, moving into 10th place in the standings.

Villarreal, which has already secured a place in next season's UEFA Champions League, raced into a 2-0 lead through goals from Gerard Moreno and Georges Mikautadze, but Oso and Kike Salas made it 2-2 before the break. Akor Adams continued his excellent recent form with a 72nd-minute winner.

Rome, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Inter Milan have won their tenth Coppa Italia with a 2-0 win over Lazio,a stunning triumph that completes a historic domestic double, having already secured their 21st Serie A title earlier in May with three rounds to spare.

Inter broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Marcus Thuram's header from a Federico Dimarco corner took a deflection off Lazio player Adam Marusic and went into the net.

The Nerazzurri doubled the lead in the 35th minute when Denzel Dumfries broke into the box and squared for Lautaro Martinez to tap into an empty net

After the final against Lazio, Inter manager Cristian Chivu shared his emotions in the post-match interviews.

“Inter have won two trophies this season, and we deserved it because we had a strong campaign. We’re happy for ourselves, for everything we’ve achieved and everything we’ve come through over these years. We’re glad to have these incredible fans too and for the club, which has always supported us.

"We’re going to enjoy everything we accomplished this season. Winning the league and the Coppa Italia is not something you can take for granted, lifting two trophies is never easy.”

Lautaro Martinez added, “For us this is a very important and meaningful victory, it was not easy to bounce back after last year. We managed to put together a truly important season in terms of play, intensity, performances and results. I am happy because we are finishing the year with two trophies, it has been really important for us.
