Guwahati, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charged United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) chief Paresh Baruah and four others in connection with the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at Panbazar in Guwahati on Independence Day in 2024, officials said on Friday.

The chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati against five accused in the case, which involves an alleged conspiracy to carry out multiple IED blasts across Assam to wage war against the Government of India and spread terror among the public.

Besides Baruah, the chairman and self-styled Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed outfit, the chargesheet names Kanak Ch Gogoi (alias Aisheng Asom), Jahnu Boruah, Bhargab Gogoi, and Sumu Gogoi.

The accused have been charged under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.

According to the NIA, the case relates to an IED planted on Motilal Nehru Road in the Panbazar area of Guwahati on August 15, 2024. The agency alleged that the accused were involved in a conspiracy to execute multiple explosions at different locations across Assam.

The planned attacks were allegedly intended to cause casualties, injure people, and damage or destroy property, besides threatening India's unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty.

The agency further stated that the alleged conspiracy was aimed at striking terror among people in the country.

The case was initially registered at Panbazar Police Station in Guwahati on August 16, 2024, under Case No. 202/2024, a day after the recovery of the suspected explosive device.

The NIA subsequently re-registered the case on February 27, 2025, as RC-01/2025/NIA/GUW and took over the investigation into the alleged conspiracy and the roles of the accused.

The chargesheet marks a significant development in the investigation into the suspected ULFA (I)-linked IED plot in Assam. The NIA said further investigation in the case is ongoing.

ULFA (I), a proscribed organisation led by Paresh Baruah, has long been associated with armed separatist activities in Assam.

Amaravati, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday ordered that the investigation into the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A division bench pronounced the order on a petition filed by Vijayalakshmi, mother of Sai Krishna, who died in custody at Krishnalanka police station in Vijayawada.

Expressing a lack of faith in the police investigation, Vijayalakshmi had filed a petition requesting that the case be handed over to the CBI.

The High Court has directed that the circumstances leading to Sai Krishna’s death be examined, the responsible officials be identified, and legal prosecution be initiated against them.

The court ordered immediate registration of a case by the CBI and directed the CBI Director to entrust the investigation to a senior officer within the agency.

Till now, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the State government had been probing the case.

The High Court directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to send the case records directly to the CBI Director. It has also issued directives to the State Government to initiate strict

departmental action against the officials held accountable for the custodial death.

The High Court also directed the state government to pay Rs. 25 lakh as compensation to Vijayalakshmi, mother of Sai Krishna.

Sai Krishna, 25, went missing after he was picked up by the Krishnalanka police of the NTR Police Commissionerate on May 6 over his involvement in a crime.

He was allegedly tortured by Circle Inspector (Station House Officer) S.S.V.V. Nagaraju and some other police personnel.

A habeas corpus petition filed by his mother in the High Court on June 2 brought the case to light.

The state government constituted an SIT headed by Inspector General (Law and Order) M. Ravi Prakash to probe the case. It arrested the suspended SHO on June 21.

Last month, the SIT filed a chargesheet against Nagaraju and six other accused.

Head constables Ashok Kumar and Nani, Nagaraju’s associate Gulivindala Suresh, constables Babu Rao and Sambaiah, and home guard Venkat are the other accused.

Suresh confessed that he had seen Sai Krishna in the police station during interrogation, and later at a private house at Ranigari Thota, where he reportedly died on May 12.

Suresh told SIT that Nagaraju, head constables Ashok Kumar and Nani cremated the body to destroy the evidence.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has welcomed the High Court order transferring the case to the CBI and also directing the State Government to pay 25 lakh to his mother within four weeks.

“This judgment is a slap in the face of the Chandrababu Naidu government. A heinous crime committed with no sense of remorse,” Jagan said in a post on ‘X’.

“We have consistently demanded a CBI inquiry and a thorough investigation into the role of senior police officials, including the DGP and the Vijayawada Commissioner of Police. Rank and political protection must never place anyone above the law,” he said.

YS Jagan alleged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu sought to bury this case through a State-controlled SIT instead of ensuring an independent investigation.

“His government must answer for the lapses in the probe and the failure to adequately examine the role of senior officials, which today highlighted the need for a CBI enquiry. Appointing a SIT cannot become an excuse to shield those who should face scrutiny.”

The former Chief Minister said that the CBI must uncover the full truth, establish responsibility and bring everyone involved to justice, regardless of their position.

Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retd) called upon all stakeholders to work in a collaborative manner in the Vibrant Villages Programme concept, aligning their resources, infrastructure and expertise towards a shared objective.

He said that reliable telecommunication is no longer a luxury but an essential service that connects people with education, healthcare, government services, livelihood opportunities and the wider digital economy.

The Governor encouraged all stakeholders to maintain regular communication, openly share their operational requirements and identify areas where infrastructure, technical capabilities and logistical support could be pooled for mutual benefit.

He emphasised that better coordination would help avoid duplication of efforts, optimise available resources and accelerate the expansion of connectivity.

The Governor, recalling the assurance given by the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force's unwavering commitment to supporting the people and the Arunachal Pradesh government, advised the Air Force to assist BSNL in transporting equipment required for setting up telecommunication towers in inaccessible locations.

He called for a practical, solution-oriented approach, with clear areas of responsibility and continued follow-up, to translate the discussions into tangible outcomes.

The Friday's meeting, initiated by Governor Parnaik, aimed to bring key stakeholders together to strengthen telecommunication connectivity across Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in remote and border areas.

Karwar, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The multi-purpose warship INS Samarthak was commissioned into the Indian Navy at the Karwar-based Karwar Naval Base (Kadamaba Naval Base) on Friday, in a ceremony presided over by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan.

Karnataka Labour and Employment Minister Santosh S. Lad attended the commissioning ceremony.

INS Samarthak is the first of four multi-purpose vessels being inducted into the Indian Navy. The commissioning was formally marked by hoisting the national tricolour bearing the Navy's insignia aboard the warship, signalling its induction into service.

The warship has been designed to support future defence operations and incorporates a significant proportion of indigenous equipment. Around 75 per cent of the equipment used in the vessel is indigenously developed, while certain technologies have been sourced from abroad.

Senior naval officials attended the ceremony, including Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command Vice-Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, and head of the warship production division Vice-Admiral Sanjay Sadhu.

Rear Admiral Vikram Menon, Flag Officer Karnataka Naval Area, and Commander Sushil Singh, commanding officer of INS Samarthak, were also present.

Key representatives of Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) and OEMs associated with indigenous equipment were also present during the commissioning ceremony.

Designed and constructed by L&T Shipyard, INS Samarthak marks a significant milestone in India’s indigenous shipbuilding journey as the first major warship to be built by an Indian private shipyard.

The commissioning is a powerful testament to the growing maturity and capability of the nation’s private shipbuilding industry and reflects the deepening synergy between the Indian Navy and the Indian shipbuilding industry in advancing the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Conceived as a versatile platform for trials and evaluation, INS Samarthak embodies the enhanced technological and operational capabilities of the Indian Navy in the 21st century.

With over 75 per cent indigenous content, the Ship incorporates extensive modular construction and pre-outfitting, significantly optimising the build process and construction timelines.

The project has also contributed to employment generation, capability development and plough back into the Indian economy.

Aptly named Samarthak, meaning 'The Proponent’, the ship represents the spirit of a dependable enabler, capable of supporting multiple missions and has been designed with inherent versatility and adaptability, enabling it to undertake a diverse range of operational and developmental tasks.

True to its name, INS Samarthak is capable of undertaking maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, offshore patrolling, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations, as required.

Nashik, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nida Khan, an accused in the alleged sexual harassment and religious conversion case at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), appeared before a family court here on Friday for a counselling session with her husband, who has filed a divorce petition against her.

The court proceedings began with the mandatory counselling of both parties before Family Court judge.

Nida's husband, Moin Khan, was also present during the proceedings.

According to information, the next hearing in the divorce case has been scheduled for November 20.

Moin Khan had filed the divorce petition in August this year, following the controversy surrounding the alleged harassment and religious conversion case at the multinational company's Nashik unit.

During the counselling session, Moin Khan reportedly cited mental distress following the emergence of the TCS case and said the controversy had affected his personal and social life.

He also expressed difficulties in interacting and socialising with people following the developments surrounding the case.

The counselling proceedings were held at the Nashik Road Family Court, where both parties appeared before the court as part of the prescribed process in the divorce petition.

Nida Khan, who is currently pregnant, is out on bail in the TCS case.

The case relates to allegations of mental and sexual harassment of several women employees at the company's Nashik unit, along with alleged pressure on them to convert to Islam.

The allegations have triggered widespread attention and controversy, with the investigation focusing on claims of workplace harassment and attempts at religious conversion.

With the initial counselling process completed, the family court has given both parties time before proceeding further with the divorce petition.

The matter will now come up for its next hearing on November 20.

Hyderabad, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Hyderabad Zonal Office, has completed the registration of two more immovable properties in Hyderabad for Rs.88.23 crore in connection with the Heera Group Ponzi case.

The agency said registration of two properties, namely Karvy Centre and Naina Towers, situated at Banjara Hills, was completed on Friday.

With the earlier registration of seven properties on October 5, ED has completed the registration of nine properties for an aggregate consideration of Rs. 103.26 crore.

The auctions were conducted pursuant to the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of Nowhera Shaik, Heera Group of Companies and others, intending to restitute proceeds to genuine victims and claimants, the agency said in a release.

ED investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 revealed that the accused entities had collected investments exceeding Rs. 5,978 crore from the public by promising annual returns of over 36%, but subsequently defaulted on repayments.

ED has issued five Provisional Attachment Orders covering properties valued at Rs. 428.83 crore and filed prosecution complaints before the Special Court under PMLA, Hyderabad.

Nowhera Shaik, whose bail was cancelled by the Supreme Court, was apprehended by ED on May 21, 2026 and remains in judicial custody.

These auction proceeds shall be transferred to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) for onward disbursement to genuine victims/claimants, in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court.

ED will continue with the auction of the remaining attached properties to facilitate restitution to victims. Further investigation is in progress, added the release.

ED on October 14 announced that it completed the registration of seven immovable properties, auctioned for Rs 15.03 crore in favour of the successful bidders.

The properties comprise six flats at H.S. Royal, Shaikpet Village, Hyderabad, and one house at MLA Colony, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

The auction was conducted on October 6 pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court.

In its order dated March 5, 2025, the Supreme Court allowed the application filed by ED seeking permission to auction immovable properties attached in the case of Nowhera Shaik, Heera Group of Companies and others, with a view to maximising realisation from the attached properties for restitution to the genuine claimants/victims.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court directed the Registrar General, Telangana High Court, to depute T. Venkateshwar Rao, Registrar (Protocol), for execution of the sale deeds on behalf of the petitioner-accused

Patna, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Armed criminals allegedly looted gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from Maa Parvati Jewellers on Deendayal Road in Bihar's Begusarai district on Friday.

The assailants arrived on three motorcycles, held the shopkeeper at gunpoint and fled with jewellery and cash after firing several rounds in the marketplace.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Phulwariya police station, triggering panic among local traders and residents.

According to shopkeeper Bhavesh Kumar, the robbers escaped with around 200 grams of gold jewellery and two kg of silver ornaments, along with cash.

According to the shopkeeper's account, six assailants arrived on three motorcycles and entered the jewellery store.

Two assailants allegedly remained inside to collect the valuables, while four accomplices stayed outside.

The shopkeeper managed to break free and run out of the shop, raising an alarm.

The assailants outside allegedly opened fire, creating panic in the busy market.

The robbers then fled with the stolen valuables while continuing to fire, according to reports.

The Begusarai police reached the spot after receiving information about the robbery and gunfire.

Eight spent shell casings were recovered from the spot.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning local residents and shopkeepers to identify the suspects.

Police are also attempting to establish the route used by the assailants to reach the market and the direction in which they escaped.

Efforts are underway to trace and arrest those involved. The investigation is underway.

The robbery sparked anger among local business owners, who blocked the road at Phulwariya Bazaar in protest.

The demonstrators used bamboo poles to obstruct traffic and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

Traders also called for increased police patrolling and stronger security arrangements in the market, expressing concern over the alleged armed robbery and firing in broad daylight.

With markets witnessing increased footfall ahead of Navratri and Durga Puja, the incident has heightened concerns among shopkeepers and shoppers about their safety.

Police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Lucknow, Oct 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) An Uttar Pradesh Special NDPS Court sentenced three drug traffickers to 10 years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each in a case involving the seizure of 500 grams of Alprazolam here in 2022, a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official said on Friday.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge at Lucknow convicted and sentenced Mohd. Raj, Mohammad Shafeek and Jangli alias Haseen, all residents of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, on Thursday, the official of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)'s Lucknow Zonal Unit said.

The case dates back to November 16, 2022, when NCB, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted Mohd. Raj near Bhaisa Kund of Baikunth Dham in Lucknow, shortly after he had alighted from a bus, the official added.

A search led to the recovery of 500 grams of Alprazolam from a bag carried by him, the NCB official said in a statement.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the contraband had originated from Mathura and was being transported to Barabanki through Lucknow, it said.

The NCB established the involvement of Mohammad Shafeek as the intended receiver and Jangli alias Haseen as a co-receiver, thereby uncovering the roles of multiple persons in the drug supply chain, it added.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence establishing the involvement of the three accused and emphasised the seriousness of trafficking in commercial quantities of psychotropic substances, the NCB said.

After examining the evidence, the Court convicted all three accused and awarded 10 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.

The Court also found that the seized contraband was intended for sale.

The conviction underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations, sustained investigation and effective prosecution in bringing drug traffickers to justice, the NCB said.

The Bureau added that it remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks, identifying persons involved at different stages of the supply chain, and ensuring that offenders face legal consequences.

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (IAN) All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and party's Punjab unit In-charge, Sachin Pilot, who is on a five-day visit to the state, on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government of "failing" to stop cross border drug trafficking.

Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh, Pilot said: "The BJP is trying to find a foothold in Punjab. It is also true that when the BJP was in power in alliance with the (Shiromani) Akali Dal, they were responsible too. The BJP has been in power at the Centre for 12 years. What have the Defence and Home Ministries done to stop drugs being smuggled from Pakistan through drones? It is easy to talk about drugs, but the BJP has failed to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to it."

He added that the BJP is now discussing about the drug menace in Punjab "in view of the upcoming Assembly polls".

"The people will question the BJP," he said.

Sachin Pilot claimed that the law-and-order situation in Punjab has been reduced to such that “gangsters have been firing at people in broad daylight".

"The law-and-order situation has collapsed in Punjab. People have been murdered in several places, and the state administration has failed to control gang violence," the Congress leader said.

The Punjab Congress in-charge added: "My attempt is to reach every home in Punjab where people have been shot like this, share the sorrows of the bereaved family and look into the status of the probe following the incident, whether the accused have been punished or not."

Pointing to the alleged murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Punjab's Mansa, Pilot said: "An atmosphere of violence has been created in Punjab where people are being shot on live videos. The police and the administration have become helpless because of which the gangsters are enjoying a free run."

The Congress leader claimed: "The current situation in Punjab is even worse than when terrorism was at its peak in the state."

"We will try our best to bring an improvement to the current situation where bombs are being hurled at police stations and police personnel are being shot," Pilot asserted.

Riyadh, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two of the several Indian nationals injured in the October 10 attack on Riyadh airport remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said on Friday. It mentioned further that one more Indian national is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) while three others are in a normal ward.

The update came in a fresh advisory issued by the Embassy, which said that Riyadh’s international airport remains closed to flight operations, while Dammam, Jeddah and Medina airports remain operational, although some disruptions continue.

“In view of the prevailing situation, Indian nationals should continue following instructions by local authorities, stay indoors in case of aerial attack, and refrain from filming, publishing, or sharing any information, photos, or videos related to the ongoing events,” the advisory stated.

According to the Embassy, Indian carriers have extended the suspension of flights to and from Saudi Arabia, with Air India and Air India Express suspending operations on all routes until October 20 and IndiGo until October 24. Akasa Air has suspended its flights to Riyadh until October 24 and to Jeddah until October 21.

Saudia continues to operate scheduled flights to Indian destinations from Dammam, Jeddah and Medina, while Flynas is operating scheduled flights on the Dammam-Lucknow sector and Flyadeal has announced the launch of Dammam-Mumbai flights for October 17-18, it added.

Indian nationals requiring urgent departure may consider transiting via Bahrain, Kuwait or Qatar, subject to obtaining the necessary visas, the Embassy said.

“Indian nationals planning to travel to Saudi Arabia, including for Umrah, are advised to take into account the ongoing disruptions at Saudi airports and the possibility of flight cancellations, which may result in extended stays,” it stated.

On Thursday, in a video message to the Indian community in the wake of the recent attacks, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, said India had condemned the attacks on civilian facilities and infrastructure in the country.

He said the Embassy had started helplines for Umrah pilgrims who had faced inconvenience, and asked those planning to travel to Saudi Arabia from India to keep possible disruptions in mind.

"In the current situation, all of us have to remain calm and alert. Especially in case of an aerial attack, we have to remain indoors," Ambassador Vipul said, adding that sharing any photo or video of the attacks was against Saudi law and could cause problems.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) All India Students' Association (AISA) National President Neha Bora was detained by the Delhi Police on Friday, minutes after the detention of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder and Convener Abhijeet Dipke while on his way to take part in the 'Tiranga Assembly', called by him at the Central Park in Connaught Place (CP) at 5 p.m.

Bora, along with workers of AISA and other left-wing parties, was detained from near Mandi House while on her way to take part in CJP's 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest.

Dipke had called the 'Tiranga Assembly', urging people to gather at the Central Park in New Delhi's Connaught Place and wave the Tricolour in protest against the arrest of his party's Co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

However, the CJP Chief was served two notices by the Delhi Police earlier on Friday, urging him to refrain from staging the gathering at CP, as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has not given permission for the same and that prohibitory orders are in place at the venue.

The police also said that legal action will be taken for violating the prohibitory orders.

Speaking to IANS, CJP spokesperson Mehar Pasricha said: "Our main goal today is to emphasise that it is our right to decide where we unfurl the Tricolour. No one should dictate where we can wave our national flag; we will do it ourselves."

Emphasising that the national flag has long been a symbol of patriotism, Pasricha added: "There should be no restrictions or obstacles placed in our way. Two of our comrades were detained from Jantar Mantar and jailed simply for waving the flag. But we are not backing down. Many CJP volunteers, various student organisations, and members of the public have gathered here because they believe no one should tell us what we can or cannot do."

Meanwhile, according to officials, one of the notices was issued to Dipke on behalf of the New Delhi district authorities under the Delhi Police Act, instructing individuals not to visit Central Park, as Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is currently in force.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the NSG's Black Cat commandos for their valour and service to the country.

"Raising Day greetings to the warriors of the National Security Guard. Salute to the martyrs of the force," Home Minister Shah said.

The Indian Army also greeted the personnel of the elite force.

In a press conference, hours after murder of second drug whistleblower on Friday, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh hit out at the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government for remaining "mute spectator" to the daylight killings and demanded that the matter be handed over to investigation agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) for detailed probe and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He said that the reign of drug mafia has reached alarming levels in Punjab, whistleblowers are being murdered, and claimed that the state government has utterly failed in not imposing curbs on the syndicate but also in ensuring security of its residents.

Earlier in the day, 40-year-old Bikramjit Singh, an anti-drug activist was killed in Batala district allegedly by unknown gunmen.

On Thursday, a noted activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was brutally murdered in Mansa after he confronted a drug peddler.

Chugh, also BJP Central office In-charge, said that the murders of Parvinder Singh Jhota and Bikramjit Singh show that how raising voice against drugs in Punjab could become a life-threatening act.

Saying that the scourge of drugs has consumed Punjab's youth, the BJP leader criticised the state government for the prevailing lawlessness, claiming that the public confidence in state government was on a constant decline.

Chugh also said that killings are continuing unabated in Punjab and grenades are being hurled at police stations.

"The state was witnessing a spate of murders, with whistleblowers being shot dead."

"Gulzar Singh was targeted because he had exposed the sale of 'chitta' in the area. He was harassed to such an extent that he was compelled to die by suicide. The situation has now deteriorated to such an extent that Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight in a crowded marketplace. He had repeatedly called for help, but the police did not arrive," the BJP leader said.

Terming Mann govt's 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign an 'utter failure', Tarun Chugh said that the high-level meeting convened by the Punjab Chief Minister was nothing more than a futile exercise.

"Nearly five years have passed, and for 55 months the state government did nothing. What can it achieve in the final few weeks now? The AAP government is actually being run from Delhi by Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. In such circumstances, what benefit will come from Bhagwant Mann's high-power meeting? When there was time to act, nothing was done, and now the time to leave has arrived," Chugh added.

The BJP leader also claimed that the entire state was under distress and in an atmosphere of fear but the Bhagwant Mann government has remained focused only on serving Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

Jammu, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The special police officer (SPO), who went missing from J&K’s Kishtwar district two days back along with his service rifle, was found dead on Friday.

The SPO has been identified as Bashir Ahmed, son of Musa Dhar, resident of Wanipora Trigam, presently posted at Pedil post.

Police said his weapon was found lying beside his body. Teams of forensic experts are now trying to ascertain the exact cause of the SPO’s death.

Officials had earlier said that intense bad weather had struck the area around the time the SPO had left his post. It was feared Ahmed might have slipped into a gorge due to extreme weather, but nothing has so far been said with certainty.

There are around 32,000 SPOs serving in J&K at present. The SPOs serve as an auxiliary force that assists the regular Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in maintaining law and order, intelligence gathering, guarding vital installations, and conducting counter-insurgency operations.

SPOs act as the first line or auxiliary support in anti-militancy and security operations across the Union Territory.

They assist with night patrolling, VIP duty, yatra duty, and routine public order maintenance. They also help local police units collect ground-level intelligence inputs on security threats.

They are deployed to guard key government and public installations.

Under amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, 1960, 15 per cent of direct constable vacancies are reserved for the absorption of eligible SPOs who have completed at least three years of service (with the maximum age limit relaxed to 40 years).

In recognition of their duties and the sacrifices made by the SPOs, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recently approved a proposal for a major increase in the honorarium of the SPOs in J&K. The proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry for final approval.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre on a plea seeking a comprehensive and enforceable regulatory framework to protect children from the risks associated with social media platforms, including age-based restrictions on access and safeguards against online exploitation.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi issued notice on the petition filed by The Emerald Heights International School and its Director (Academics), Siddharth Singh Girnar, and tagged it with a pending petition raising a similar issue.

The apex court has listed the matter for further hearing on December 3. The petition, filed against the Union of India, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Law and Justice, and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, raises concerns over unrestricted access to commercial social media platforms by children and the alleged inadequacy of the existing legal and regulatory framework to address the risks posed by their use.

The plea contends that social media platforms generally prescribe a self-declared minimum age of 13 years, which does not correspond to the protection accorded to children under Indian law.

It refers to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, which recognises every person below 18 years of age as a child and provides for enhanced safeguards, including verifiable parental consent and restrictions on tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising.

“The present framework remains fragmented, incomplete and inadequately operationalised,” the petition stated, arguing that there is no uniform and enforceable child-safety regime governing age verification, prevention of underage access, parental involvement and platform accountability.

The petitioners have claimed that children are increasingly exposed to cyberbullying, harassment, harmful online content and unwanted contact from strangers through social media.

They have also raised concerns over sleep deprivation, diminished concentration, anxiety, low self-esteem and declining academic engagement associated with prolonged social media use.

The plea further stated that parents have expressed concerns over their children's excessive phone use, late-night exposure, online interactions and the risk of bullying, grooming and exploitation, while finding it difficult to supervise or restrict access to such platforms.

The petition has sought directions to the Centre and the authorities concerned to formulate and notify a dedicated regulatory framework providing for reliable, proportionate and privacy-preserving age verification, graded and age-appropriate access, restrictions on harmful content and mandatory privacy settings for accounts belonging to children.

It has also sought safeguards against grooming, sexual solicitation, cyberbullying, harassment and the circulation of intimate or private images, including effective reporting mechanisms, prompt removal of harmful material and preservation of evidence in accordance with law.

In the alternative, the petitioners have sought directions to prescribe and enforce restrictions on children's creation and use of social media platforms if other safeguards are found insufficient to address the risks.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan is witnessing what amounts to an undeclared state of emergency, with violent protests sweeping Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The unrest across the three regions has triggered a series of crackdowns, as the Pakistani establishment attempts to downplay the scale of the protests and the developments unfolding on the ground.

While Balochistan and PoK have witnessed prolonged unrest, attention has now shifted to KP, where emergency measures and Governor’s rule have been imposed. Protests have spread across the region, but only a fraction of the developments are reaching the public domain, amid fresh restrictions on press freedom in Pakistan.

In addition to curbs on the media, Pakistan has also restricted access to international monitoring groups, while also placing local human rights groups under the terror watch list. To avoid international scrutiny, Islamabad has also reached out to pressure groups abroad to keep the narrative under tight control.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed media channels to refrain from live coverage of the ongoing protests and has also sought to restrict coverage of the frequent riots and blasts reported in KP and Balochistan.

The situation in PoK is no different. Protests that have continued for several months have received scant coverage in the Pakistani media.

An official said that there is hardly anything that comes out of these regions. “The Pakistani establishment runs a pretty tight ship when it comes to information from these regions, which have been on the boil for long,” the official said.

The media blackouts and the curbs on human rights groups from visiting these regions are, in fact, helping the Pakistani establishment carry out extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances, the official said.

“Whatever information that is coming out of these regions is thanks to the social media posts of insurgent groups and the activists in the region,” the official also said.

Another official said that media coverage of the protests is subject to strict scrutiny.

Any footage or information that reaches the media from these regions is subjected to extensive scrutiny by government agencies. Even the limited footage permitted for broadcast is not aired in real time.

There are clear instructions to delay live feeds so that people in Pakistan do not get a true picture of what is happening on the ground, the official said.

An Intelligence Bureau official said that while social media posts by people on the ground were bringing some information to light, the flow of information remained inconsistent.

Internet services remain largely shut down, while social media posts about the ongoing situation in the region are subject to intense scrutiny.

Further, the rules for international monitoring organisations, UN experts and foreign journalists seeking to visit these regions are heavily restricted. Even if security clearance requirements such as a No Objection Certificate (NOC) are met, these persons are taken on guided tours across the region so that Pakistan can show only what they want to see.

Further, the establishment is also targeting groups such as the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), and the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). These organisations are placed on terror watch lists, making it extremely hard for them to function. Groups such as these have been reporting the extrajudicial killings, and the establishment has managed to suppress this successfully.

Scores of activists have been detained illegally for several months and tortured in jails, officials say.

Pakistan wants to keep the incidents in these regions under wraps as it fears international condemnation. The European Commission has warned that human rights abuses, lack of accountability and military trials could threaten Pakistan’s trade preferences.

While ensuring the maximum curbs in these regions, Pakistan has also reached out to its pressure groups in countries such as the United States to ensure that matters are kept under wraps.

These pressure groups, which have primarily been tasked with pushing narratives against India on Jammu and Kashmir, have also been directed to ensure that information about the unrest in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) does not reach the outside world.

The last thing Pakistan wants now is international attention, especially at a time when its economy is in tatters, an official said.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has reportedly raised its annual espionage budget targeting India to Rs 1,300 crore following last year's Operation Sindoor, with funds focused on building a Human Intelligence (HUMINT) network within the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, according to intelligence officials.

An Intelligence Bureau official said that before Operation Sindoor, the ISI’s budget for espionage against India was Rs 800 to Rs 900 crore.

“However, post Operation Sindoor, there has been a hike in this sum of up to Rs 1,300 crore. The reason why the budget has been hiked is that Pakistan wants to trap high-value targets within India’s defence forces,” the official said.

In recent months, the ISI has been specifically focusing on setting up a massive Human Intelligence (HUMINT) network within the Indian Navy and Air Force.

Offices handling sensitive information are targeted through honey-traps or by exploiting security vulnerabilities. The cost of establishing such networks has risen sharply over the past year, with high-value targets now being paid between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, compared with Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh before Operation Sindoor.

Another official said the ISI has long sought to establish a human intelligence (HUMINT) network within the Indian armed forces.

“While several such cases have been reported in the past, the current level of urgency and the intensity of efforts are significantly higher than in 2015, 2019 and 2021, when major espionage cases were busted in the Indian Navy,” the official said.

The official added that the espionage cases reported in October 2026 were the most worrying, underscoring the ISI’s intensified efforts to establish a HUMINT network within the Indian Navy.

Coordinated operations by the Andhra Pradesh police in Visakhapatnam, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the intelligence agencies have led to the arrest of 18 persons.

They were arrested for allegedly sharing secrets and other sensitive information of the Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).

What is alarming is that of the 18 arrested, 13 are Indian Navy personnel. The number of Navy personnel who have been trapped as part of this operation by Pakistan only suggests how deep Pakistan seeks to penetrate the system.

This also explains why Islamabad has raised its budgets so drastically to gather sensitive information about the Indian defence forces.

In 2016, there was a major ISI honey-trap crackdown after it was found that several junior-level naval personnel had passed on sensitive information.

In 2001, four naval personnel were arrested for sharing sensitive information. In December 2019, the agencies launched Operation Dolphin Nose to bust a Pakistan-linked honey trap network that was based out of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, the Western Naval Command in Mumbai, and Karwar.

Officials say that this time around the stakes are much higher. Islamabad wants to avenge the humiliation and losses it faced during Operation Sindoor.

During a series of high-level meetings, it was decided to hike spending for espionage-related activities in India. It was also decided that the biggest spending would be to set up a massive HUMINT network in the Indian defence forces.

While budgets to the tune of up to Rs 25 lakh per person were fixed for trapping defence personnel, funding has also been set aside for logistics and SIM card networks, CCTV surveillance modules, and digital and media propaganda.

Officials said the cost of recruiting and operating these networks ranges up to Rs 40,000 per person, depending on the operation. Pakistan is currently focusing heavily on the Indian Navy, followed by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The aim is to observe the capabilities of both these arms of the Indian armed forces.

Officials say that the earmarking of a higher budget for espionage activities against India is a major cause for concern.

Earlier, a substantial portion of Pakistan’s defence budget was earmarked for such activities. However, these allocations are now under scrutiny and have drawn criticism from political leaders and the public.

“For the current year, Pakistan has allocated a staggering PKR 3 trillion for the defence forces, and this has been questioned by many. To avoid further scrutiny, the army and the ISI have decided to ramp up narcotics, arms and ammunition smuggling and counterfeiting so that it can be used for espionage activities in India,” the officials say.

Another official said that the creation of the HUMINT network within the Indian defence is worrying on various levels. Going by the modus operandi, it does not look like they trapped these personnel for one particular piece of information.

Pakistan wants to play the long game whereby it would keep paying these personnel, who in turn would give information on an almost day-to-day basis. The modus operandi is similar when it comes to the IAF, and Islamabad is looking to build up a major HUMINT network with the hope that its armed forces would have the operational advantage over India, the official said.

“India stands in complete solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty,” India's Permanent Representative P. Harish said on Thursday.

“The escalation in hostilities in the region is deeply worrying,” he said during the Security Council's quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East.

“We call for restraint and de-escalation in what has developed into a principal challenge facing the international community today,” he said.

Without naming the Houthis, who are behind the attacks, he said, “We strongly condemn repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure, including Saudi airports in the past few days”.

This “has led to the loss of precious lives, including that of an Indian citizen Mr Mohammad Yousef Ali in Riyadh,” he said.

Ali, an IT engineer from Hyderabad, was killed on Saturday while on a pilgrimage to Islam's holy site in the attack on the Riyadh airport.

The Houthis are a powerful Yemeni rebel group aligned with Iran that is fighting the internationally recognised government of Yemen, and is taking the fight to neighbouring Saudi Arabia, which backs the government.

“India reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen and rejection of any interference in its internal affairs,” he said.

While the Strait of Hormuz is already a hot zone with attacks on shipping and the consequent choke on energy supplies, the Houthis have opened a new front on the Red Sea.

Harish said, “The protection of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Southern Red Sea is a shared international responsibility and is a global interest.”

“We strongly condemn attacks on maritime navigation and on the seafarers, many of whom are Indian citizens”, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Neha Yadav on Thursday in a video message said that the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have appealed to their workers, supporters and the general public to join the protest in large numbers.

The order has been issued to maintain peace and order and to ensure the safety of lives as well as public and private property in the area.

Appealing to protesters and the public, the police said no one should participate in any gathering that violates the prohibitory order currently in force.

Appropriate legal action will be taken against those found violating the order.

The Delhi Police aims to ensure that no situation arises that could disrupt the operations of traders and shopkeepers.

The force may, however, consider facilitating a designated and suitable location for a select group of individuals to gather for the purpose of carrying the national flag and singing the national anthem, provided prescribed guidelines are followed and full respect, dignity and decorum are maintained towards the Tricolour and the national anthem.

The Delhi Police once again appealed to everyone to maintain peace and order.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has told the Delhi Police that Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons.

NDMC has requested appropriate security arrangements to prevent any unauthorised entry into the park.

"Trade and market associations in and around Connaught Place have also sought protection for their shops and establishments against disruptive elements and unlawful assemblies, noting that such activities, especially during the festive season, are adversely affecting their businesses," she said.

The Delhi High Court has taken note of concerns regarding potential disruptions to commercial activities in the area.

The Delhi Police has assured that suitable measures will be taken to address these concerns.

In a video message to the Indian community in the wake of the recent attacks, India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, said India had condemned the attacks on civilian facilities and infrastructure in the country.

"We stand in complete solidarity with the people and leadership of Saudi Arabia. We also express condolences to the families of the people who have lost their lives in these attacks, and we wish speedy recovery to those who were injured," Ambassador Vipul said.

He added that the Embassy remained in touch with the family of the Indian national who lost his life in the October 10 attack on Riyadh airport, as well as with the hospital authorities and families of the 11 Indians who were injured.

With Riyadh airport closed, the Ambassador said flights by Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo had been cancelled from the entire Kingdom, but those of Saudia, flynas and flyadeal were still operating to India, while people could also travel via neighbouring Gulf countries.

He said the Embassy had started helplines for Umrah pilgrims who had faced inconvenience, and asked those planning to travel to Saudi Arabia from India to keep possible disruptions in mind.

"In the current situation, all of us have to remain calm and alert. Especially in case of an aerial attack, we have to remain indoors," Ambassador Vipul said, adding that sharing any photo or video of the attacks was against Saudi law and could cause problems.

On Wednesday, India reiterated its condemnation of attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, terming them as "unacceptable" while expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia in defence of its sovereignty.

Addressing a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that some of the people travelling between India and Saudi Arabia have been affected by the disruption in flight operations after the attack on airports in Saudi Arabia.

Imphal, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) A middle-aged Kuki tribal woman was killed and two other civilians went missing after suspected militants ambushed two motorcycles in Manipur's Kamjong district on Thursday evening, officials said.

A police official, quoting local villagers, said that four civilians travelling on two motorcycles to Phaikoh to purchase essential commodities were ambushed between Phaikoh and Molvailup.

The woman, identified as Hatneimkim Haokip, died on the spot, while her husband escaped unhurt, the official added.

The two other civilians remain missing, and their whereabouts are unknown.

Security personnel, along with villagers, have launched search operations to trace the missing persons.

Various organisations, including the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), have strongly condemned the killing.

In a statement, KIM Secretary for Information and Publicity Janghaolun Haokip accused the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) of carrying out the attack and alleged that the outfit had repeatedly targeted defenceless civilians, particularly women and children.

Describing the incident as a grave violation of humanitarian principles, he said that the alleged attacks on vulnerable civilians and villagers were unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

The KIM also held the state and Central governments responsible for what it described as a breakdown of law and order that had allowed insurgent groups to operate with impunity.

Accusing the authorities of indecision and failure to take decisive action, Haokip demanded an immediate and comprehensive security operation to identify and apprehend those responsible for Haokip's killing and trace the two missing civilians.

He said that mere assurances were no longer sufficient and called for concrete action to ensure the safety of civilians and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The KIM expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said that the organisation stood in solidarity with them during their hour of grief.

It warned that failure to take immediate and tangible steps to bring the perpetrators to justice, locate the missing civilians and ensure the protection of innocent people could lead to public unrest and further escalation of tensions.

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Sunil Jakhar on Thursday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government of staging theatrics in the name of combating drugs.

He alleged that a drug Inspector arrested in 2024, described at the time as the kingpin of a drug network and linked to substantial money and properties, had subsequently been appointed to an important position at the department's headquarters by the state government.

He also asked why the state government had not involved the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the investigation despite allegations of money laundering.

Jakhar raised several questions for Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the State Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav regarding the Mansa incident, the Punjab government's performance against drugs and the reinstatement of drug Inspector Shishan Mittal.

He said that alongside its claims of action against drugs, the state government must explain what concrete steps it had taken against major trafficking networks and their financial transactions.

Referring to Mittal's case, Jakhar said the Anti-Narcotics Task Force had arrested him in September 2024 on allegations of colluding with drug traffickers lodged in prisons and laundering drug money.

According to Jakhar, the investigation led to the freezing of Rs 7.09 crore in 24 bank accounts, while Rs 1.149 crore in cash, around 260 grams of gold and foreign currency were reportedly recovered from two lockers.

He also referred to real estate holdings in Zirakpur and Rajasthan.

Jakhar said that Mittal had been posted to Fazilka following complaints in Mansa and was arrested in Mohali during that posting.

He asked how after being granted bail and reinstated in 2025, Mittal had been entrusted with control over work relating to drug samples at the headquarters.

He urged the Chief Minister to ascertain, during Friday's review of anti-drug measures, who had appointed the Inspector to an important position again.

Jakhar alleged that instead of involving the ED in the investigation, the Bhagwant Mann government, which he accused of being steeped in corruption, had treated the Inspector as a source of illicit earnings and assigned him a key responsibility at the department's headquarters.

He asked the Chief Minister and the DGP how many other drug Inspectors had faced action following this case, how far investigations into traffickers' money trails had progressed and what steps had been taken against kingpins operating their networks from prison.

Citing the foreign currency and alleged financial transactions, Jakhar asked why the case had not been handed over to the ED.

Kolkata, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) With the first batch of Agniveers to be discharged from the Army in about two months, Lt Gen VMB Krishnan, general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C), paid a visit to the Sikh Regimental Centre and Punjab Regimental Centre at the Ramgarh Cantonment on Thursday.

The Eastern Army Commander reviewed the training and administrative aspects of the Agniveers, expressing satisfaction with the contemporary training methodology and progressive infrastructure development.

Lt Gen Krishnan was briefed about the training modules and administrative aspects by officers. He also interacted directly with the troops, giving away commendation badges.

Regimental Centres and Record Offices will be playing a crucial role during the discharge of the Agniveers. The formal discharge orders for the Agniveers, who have completed their four-year tenure and have not been absorbed, are issued through respective Record Offices and Regimental/Training Centres, roughly 120 days prior to completion of service.

The selection rolls for the 25% Agniveers who are absorbed are also processed and forwarded in coordination with the Record Offices and Regimental Centres. They also supervise the mandatory exit medical examination and health clearances, which are conducted between 180 and 90 days prior to discharge.

The Record Offices and Regimental Centres handle the final administrative clearance, transition paperwork and compilation of the Seva Nidhi package processing details, so those discharged can return to civilian life.

Under the Seva Nidhi package, exiting Agniveers are to receive about Rs 11.71 lakh (tax-free) along with a skill-set certificate. The final service records of the Agniveers, throughout the four-year cycle, comprising performance counselling and feedback managed by the chain of command, are also held by the Centres.

The Indian Air Force has already completed the process of retaining 712 of the Agniveer Vayus from the first batch of 2,850. The first batch of Agniveers is likely to be discharged by the Indian Navy in November. The largest batch of Agniveers will be discharged by the Army in December 2026-January 2027.

As part of their rehabilitation, the government has reserved 50% of the posts of constables in the Central Armed Police Forces for the Agniveers. A similar reservation has been announced for the posts of riflemen in the Assam Rifles. Several states have also announced recruitment policies. West Bengal has plans to rejuvenate the Eastern Frontier Rifles with Agniveers from the hill districts of the state. -

Officials said a 55-year-old Special Police Officer (SPO), identified as Bashir Ahmed, has gone missing along with his service rifle from Kishtwar district.

Security forces have started a manhunt to trace the missing SPO. Reports said on Wednesday morning, the SPO left his deployment at the Trigham Police Picket to head toward his home in Wanipora Trigam.

“He has gone missing along with his allotted SLR service rifle. When he failed to arrive home, his family alerted authorities. While investigators are examining all possible angles, early reports note that heavy rainfall and adverse weather hit the region around the time he disappeared, raising apprehensions that he may have accidentally slipped from a steep hillock.

“Multiple search teams consisting of police and security personnel are currently combing nearby forests, transit routes, and local villages to establish his whereabouts”, officials said.

Police sources said all possible angles were being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Heavy rainfall was reported in the area around the time he went missing. The possibility that the SPO may have accidentally slipped from a hillock amid the adverse weather conditions remains unconfirmed, and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are still unclear.

Around 32,000 Special Police Officers (SPOs) are serving in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir are engaged under Section 18 of the J&K Police Act, 1983, to assist regular police forces in law and order and counter-insurgency operations.

The J&K Home Department amended the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, 1960, providing a 20% reservation in constable recruitment for SPOs and in-service followers. 15% of direct recruitment constable posts are earmarked for eligible SPOs, and 5% are reserved for the promotion of in-service followers.

SPOs with a minimum of 3 years of engagement, those excelling in sports (national/state level), or those with ITI/AICTE diplomas are considered for absorption as constables or followers, with upper age relaxations up to 40 years.

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has repeatedly ruled that SPOs do not hold regular civil posts and are not covered under the full constitutional safeguards of Article 311 or regular departmental inquiries.

Recent 2026 High Court rulings establish that while SPOs can be disengaged, authorities must provide a minimum safeguard of notice and an opportunity to reply if the disengagement is stigmatic, based on misconduct, or involves disputed records (such as age or absence charges).

Imphal, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Thursday that the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, had severely affected the state's economy, resulting in an estimated revenue loss of around Rs 1,200 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections between 2023 and 2026.

Addressing the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' at the Tadubi local ground in the Naga-dominated Senapati district, the Chief Minister added that the prolonged unrest had adversely affected economic activities and government revenue.

He lauded the people of Maram, Tadubi and Mao in Senapati district for their cooperation in restoring the free movement of passenger buses and other vehicles along the National Highway connecting Imphal to Guwahati via Dimapur in Nagaland.

He added that the resumption of free movement along the highway had boosted the state's economy and improved connectivity between different parts of the region.

The Chief Minister also said that bandhs and blockades had adversely affected daily-wage earners and students across the state.

He emphasised that differences among communities could be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Khemchand Singh said that the 36 different communities residing in Manipur had cooperated with the kings of the state during the Manipuri-Burmese War, collectively resisting and successfully driving away the Burmese Army to safeguard the state.

He added that all communities must work together towards achieving a common goal for the state's progress and development.

Speaking about developmental initiatives, the Chief Minister said that the state government had earmarked an estimated Rs 10 crore in the budget for each Assembly constituency for the construction of Inter-Village Roads (IVRs).

He also added that, with a view to ensuring equitable development across the hill districts, a medical college had been established in Churachandpur district during the previous government's tenure, and another medical college would now be established in Senapati district.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that members of the Meitei, Naga and Kuki communities were increasingly reluctant to identify themselves as Manipuris.

He said that, for the state to move forward on the path of peace and reconciliation, people must first identify themselves as Indians and, secondly, as Manipuris.

Citing Singapore as an example of collective efforts towards development, Khemchand Singh said that the country was home to four different communities that worked together towards the common goal of national development and had succeeded in achieving significant progress.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of transforming the country, the Chief Minister added that India had been the world's 11th-largest economy before PM Modi assumed office as the Prime Minister.

He added that India had since become the world's fourth-largest economy, attributing the country's progress to the Prime Minister's leadership.

He also said that the vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047" aimed to build a strong and developed India by the time the country completed 100 years of independence.

The Chief Minister added that the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was being organised across the country to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Modi's public service and carry forward the spirit of public service and good governance.

Speaking at the programme, A. Kapani, former Chairman of the Senapati Autonomous District Council (ADC), appreciated the district administration for providing a platform to participate in the celebration marking 25 years of PM Modi's public service to the nation.

He said that the Tadubi Assembly constituency had faced numerous difficulties in the absence of an elected representative.

However, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, government policies and benefits were now reaching the people of the constituency.

"The action was carried out by police stations Khanyar, Pantha Chowk, Shalteng, Safakadal, Soura, and Ahmadnagar across different subdivisions of Srinagar. The assets were identified during financial investigations as allegedly acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trafficking. Proceedings were initiated under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, following prescribed legal procedures," a police statement said.

The action included properties valued at approximately Rs 8 crore linked to cases registered at Police Station Khanyar, a residential property worth Rs 1.24 crore in the Pantha Chowk area, and another property valued at Rs 1.21 crore under Police Station Shalteng.

Police also froze or attached properties worth around Rs 10.15 lakh in Safakadal, Rs 1.80 crore in two cases under Police Station Ahmadnagar, and a residential property valued at over Rs 1.18 crore under Police Station Soura. Police said the action was aimed at dismantling the financial networks associated with drug trafficking and reiterated its commitment to continuing the crackdown on narcotics-related activities.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have intensified anti-narcotics operations under the NDPS Act to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the Union Territory.

In Pulwama district, police have stepped up raids, vehicle checks, and property attachments of known peddlers, while in Baramulla, authorities continue targeted operations against cross-border and local narcotics supply chains.

In Awantipora district, the focus is on tracking down local dealers and spreading youth awareness, and in Bandipora, special surveillance and combing operations target contraband distribution in rural and urban pockets.

Imphal, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) At least 84 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed in Manipur were hospitalised on Thursday following suspected food poisoning after eating breakfast, officials said.

The personnel, who arrived in Manipur from outside the state on Wednesday, were staying at a construction site in Lamshang in Imphal West district.

They reportedly fell ill after consuming puri and aloo sabzi for breakfast around 8.30 a.m., and were subsequently taken to the government Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment, a hospital official said.

The official said the personnel received immediate medical treatment in the emergency department and their condition was stable.

A senior doctor of the RIMS told the media that there were no signs of deterioration in their health and that tests were being conducted to determine the cause of the suspected food poisoning.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh expressed concern over the incident.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the well-being of security personnel remained a priority and wished the affected jawans a speedy and complete recovery. He also urged the authorities concerned to ensure that they received the best possible medical care.

"The well-being of our security personnel remains a priority. I wish all the affected jawans a speedy and complete recovery. The concerned authorities are urged to ensure that they receive the best possible medical care. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this time,” Khemchand Singh said.

Manipur Home Minister, after visiting the RIMS, said on social media that the BSF personnel had arrived from Chhattisgarh on Wednesday and were staying at a camp at Taothong Lamkhai in Imphal West.

"Wishing every affected jawan a speedy and complete recovery,” the Minister said in his post.

BSF personnel, along with those of various other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Army, have been deployed across Manipur to assist in maintaining law and order in the state, which has been affected by ethnic violence since May 2023.

The 29-year-old spiritual leader has given fresh impetus to a social reform and de-addiction movement, calling for an "addiction-free, great India".

The five-day chariot procession, which began on October 11 from Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur and covered nearly 500 km across five Bundelkhand districts—Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh, Sagar and Tikamgarh—concluded on October 15.

Thousands of devotees, including large numbers of young people, participated.

At every major halt, Dhirendra Shastri administered pledges urging people to quit alcohol and other intoxicants, end caste divisions and uphold social harmony.

Highlighting the serious problem of substance abuse addiction in the region, the spiritual leader said a special de-addiction campaign formed a core part of the yatra.

"Bundelkhand is struggling with addiction. Special measures were taken and people took pledges. We are confident this journey will bring significant change," he added.

In areas such as Banda, Dhirendra Shastri met families who had lost loved ones to spurious liquor and appealed for collective action against the menace.

Addressing the youth, the spiritual leader declared, "When the youth awaken, India will awaken; the dream of an addiction-free India will become a reality."

He repeatedly stressed that substance abuse weakens both the individual and the nation, and urged young people to embrace traditional values, discipline and a purposeful life rooted in Sanatan principles.

Dhirendra Shastri also called upon the Madhya Pradesh government to consider a complete ban on liquor shops in the state, citing the successful examples of Bihar and Gujarat.

He announced that his next yatra would focus exclusively on de-addiction and awareness against substance abuse.

Kolkata, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Lt Gen Girish Kalia, general officer commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, visited a forward post of the Assam Rifles in Manipur on Thursday and reviewed the prevailing security situation in the area.

He was briefed by local commanders on the operational preparedness of the troops manning the porous India-Myanmar border. India shares a 1,643 km long border with Myanmar. Of this, 398 km are in Manipur. Fencing of the border has started, and nearly 55 km has been completed in Manipur.

The government plans to complete the fencing by 2028. However, there are challenges that authorities are facing during the fencing work. Terrain is an issue. Several stretches along the border are hilly and forested. There is also resistance from militant outfits that use the border to move between the two countries.

An Assam Rifles patrol was recently ambushed at a spot where fencing work is underway in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

A soldier lost his life in the attack. There have been attacks on the Assam Rifles in Manipur as well. In July this year, two soldiers were killed after a convoy was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Ukhrul district. This happened close to the India-Myanmar border as well.

The GOC's visit comes at a time when the valley-based Meiteis are continuing to demand the ouster of the Assam Rifles from the state, accusing the force of favouritism towards the hill-based Kuki-Zo community. They have also claimed that the Assam Rifles failed to manage the ethnic conflict effectively. Even the Nagas in the state have raised their voices against the Assam Rifles in recent times after clashes broke out with the Kukis.

On October 15, 2026, even when Lt Gen Kalia was visiting Manipur, Leishiyo Keishing, the Naga People's Front MLA from Phungyar, accused the 11 Assam Rifles of dereliction of duty.

He, along with a team, was returning to Imphal after a tour of border areas when residents of Chassad allegedly blocked public movement, leaving nearly 20 vehicles, including his convoy, stranded for nearly two hours.

This happened at the Kamjong market, where residents blocked roads at two locations using stones and other large objects. The blockade was lifted after the intervention of Kamjong Police, Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel.

A Casspir armoured vehicle was deployed to clear the obstructions. After crossing Chassad, Keishing alleged that Assam Rifles personnel had failed to intervene despite their responsibility to protect border residents and maintain security.

He also accused the force of focusing on business activities instead of its assigned duties. Over the last few days, the Assam Rifles has made attempts to reach out to both Naga and Kuki community leaders to ease tensions between the two communities.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former Union Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday wrote to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, urging him to take measures to prevent road accidents caused by the illegal and dangerous parking of commercial and heavy vehicles along national and state highways in major mining and industrial areas of the state.

In his letter, Pradhan said that the number of road accidents is rising rapidly in the state's mining and industrial corridors as trucks and other vehicles are illegally and dangerously parked in queues stretching for several kilometres along the roads.

"The lack of logistics discipline by mining companies and the absence of designated parking pose a serious threat to road safety. However, the state government holds a direct constitutional mandate and robust legal powers to redress this," he added.

Referring to the directions of the Supreme Court in its order in Suo Moto W.P. (C) No. 9 of 2025 (In Re: Phalodi Accident vs National Highways Authority of India and Others), the former Union Minister also noted that the apex court has clearly held that safe travel on highways is an integral part of the right to life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

"Exercising its powers under Article 142, the Supreme Court issued binding interim directions prohibiting the parking of heavy and commercial vehicles on national highways and other areas meant for vehicular movement, except at designated parking facilities," Pradhan said.

He noted that the apex court also directed that district collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) be held accountable for removing illegal parking through round-the-clock patrolling teams, automated e-challan systems and district road safety task forces.

"Secondly, the Odisha State Highways Authority Act, 2025, provides for strict administrative, financial and criminal penalties against drivers, transport operators and industrial companies that violate its provisions. Under Section 28, mandatory fines ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 can be imposed on those driving dangerously on roads. It also provides for the auction of seized vehicles if the fines remain unpaid for one month," the Sambalpur MP added.

He said that under Sections 72 and 73 of this Act, officials can seize non-compliant vehicles with their cargo and levy hourly parking fees.

"Section 69 mandates up to six months' imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 20,000 for overloading and unsafe driving. Crucially, Section 76 holds every officer or director managing the company liable for prosecution if offences stem from corporate negligence or logistical mismanagement."

Pradhan has sought the Chief Minister's intervention to restore order, ensure public safety and strengthen accountability across the state.

"Human life is more valuable than any industrial or administrative inconvenience," the former Union Minister said, expressing hope that swift and punitive legal action against violators would ensure that Odisha's highways remain corridors of progress rather than corridors of danger.

Kolkata, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) A youth from Manipur was apprehended near the India-Nepal border by troops of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) with a live round of ammunition.

While the young man has claimed that he had found the bullet near his house and kept it with him, the police are in touch with authorities in Manipur to check his antecedents.

The incident occurred during a routine check by the Border Intelligence Team of the SSB on the New Bridge that connects Panitanki in West Bengal to Kakarvitta in Nepal. An ambulance moving towards Nepal was stopped and checked about 350 metres from the border.

During baggage screening, the 9mm live round was detected and seized from the bag of Paogoulun Haokip, aged 20 years, a resident of Moreh, Tengnoupal, Manipur.

The bullet had the markings - 9mm 2Z KF 20 - indicating that it was produced by the ammunition factory in Kirkee, near Pune in Maharashtra. This prohibited-bore ammunition is issued to the police and other security forces.

"During interrogation, Haokip stated that he was travelling with his family from Manipur to Kakarvitta, Nepal, for his father's treatment at Mechi Eye Hospital. When asked about the bullet, he said that he had found it lying on the ground about three months ago and kept it in his possession since. He claimed that he was unaware of its presence in his bag," a senior SSB official said.

Moreh in Tengnoupal, Manipur, is on the border with Myanmar. The area is a hotbed of militant activity. The state has been witnessing severe ethnic violence for more than three years now. Several militant outfits have taken part in the clashes that resulted in over 300 deaths.

Thousands of weapons, along with ammunition, have also been looted from police armouries. Some of them have been recovered, but a lot remains untraced.

"At the moment, we are not assuming anything. All details are being sent to authorities in Manipur to check his background. Even if what he says is true, he is liable to be prosecuted for possessing a live bullet without proper documents," the official said.

He said that the youth would have got into very serious trouble had the bullet been found by authorities in Nepal, which has strict gun laws.

He said that people should never keep such items in their possession, even if they find them lying around. They should inform the police immediately. Even if they pick up something of this sort casually, they should hand it to the police.

A few days ago, the SSB troops at Panitanki had apprehended a Sikkim resident who was trying to enter Nepal with a licenced .32 bore pistol, 49 rounds of ammunition and an empty casing.

Officials had then said that people should never attempt to enter another country with a firearm, even if it has a valid licence in India. Such weapons are to be declared and deposited at the customs check post.

New Delhi, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Accusing the Congress of double-speak on women dignity, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha on Thursday met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and submitted a memorandum seeking stringent action against Congress Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam over sexual harassment complaints filed by 11 female Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students against him.

The delegation, led by BJP Mahila Morcha National President Rupkumari Choudhary, urged Birla to take cognisance of the matter and ensure swift and impartial action without any political interference, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj told reporters after the meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Chaudhary said that everyone has seen how Congress party leaders have been mistreating women in recent days.

"When the party (Congress) leader has such an attitude, those around him also engage in similar behaviour," she said, training her guns on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

She added that when BJP Mahila Morcha workers were peacefully protesting last week, Congress media coordinator Sanjeev Singh mistreated them.

Additionally, a woman Constable and a journalist were also mistreated during separate incidents by Congress leaders, she said.

"The Congress, which consistently mistreats women, is also patronising its tainted MP from Manipur who was teaching in JNU before being removed by the university," she added.

"All BJP Mahila Morcha workers are committed to protecting those sisters and daughters, ensuring justice, and standing with them. In the coming days, from the streets to Parliament, the BJP Mahila Morcha will stand with those 11 daughters and continue this fight for justice," Choudhary said.

The complaints relate to alleged sexual harassment by Akoijam, a former JNU professor and currently a Congress MP from Manipur.

According to the memorandum, 11 female students had submitted written complaints against Akoijam in May, following which an internal committee of the university investigated the matter and found the allegations to be true.

Akoijam was subsequently dismissed by the university administration on October 9.

Earlier, similar memoranda were submitted by BJP Mahila Morcha to President Droupadi Murmu and National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence over Mahila Morcha's demand to expel Akoijam from the Congress.

"Rahul Gandhi's silence on this entire issue is surprising. Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sonia Gandhi are also completely silent," Swaraj said.

"Rahul Gandhi may have a strong voice when he calls for 'smash the patriarchy', but why does his voice fall silent when it comes to Bimal Akoijam? This is because Congress practices the politics of convenience, not principles," she added.

Swaraj said that Congress' feminism certainly begins with hashtags, but is sacrificed when it comes to accountability.

Varanasi, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday attacked the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government in the state, asserting that houses for the poor and marginalised will now be built on the lands which were earlier claimed by "mafias" in Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister made the remarks while addressing the 'Swachhta Mitra Samman Sammaroh' in Varanasi.

Lashing out at the previous SP government, CM Adityanath said: "The only place for the mafia is underground. Lands once occupied by the mafias will now become sites for homes for the poor. In Prayagraj, the construction of multi-story residential buildings for the poor, the marginalised, and the Dalits will soon commence on land reclaimed from the mafia."

He is scheduled to perform the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of Padma Lok Apartment, a multi-storey residential project to come up in Prayagraj on government land freed from the possession of mafia leader Atiq Ahmed, the Chief Minister's Office said on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led 'double-engine' government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of the poor in Uttar Pradesh.

In an apparent reference to Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, CM Adityanath took a jibe, saying: "If a public representative—or a leader—wakes up as late as noon, remains preoccupied solely with their own family, and makes the mistake of equating their family with the entire society or state, then destruction is inevitable."

He added that only those who view the entire society, the state, and the nation as their own family are capable of bringing about real change.

The Chief Minister also took aim at those public representatives who, once elected, remain in Lucknow and "never return to visit their constituencies".

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that, in the past, wages or honorariums of sanitation workers were deducted after they completed their work and were sometimes, not even paid the full amount.

He issued a stern warning to those indulging in such acts, saying that in Uttar Pradesh, "any individual found cutting the pay of sanitation workers will face strict action".

"Such arbitrary practices will no longer be tolerated. The government has issued strict directives to prevent any deductions from their (sanitation workers') honorariums. Through the Uttar Pradesh Outsource Corporation, a system has been established to ensure that these workers receive a minimum honorarium of 16,000 rupees. They will also be entitled to medical treatment at hospitals under the ESI (Employees' State Insurance) scheme, as well as insurance coverage and Provident Fund (PF) benefits. In the event of a fatal accident, their families will receive financial assistance. The PF provision ensures that workers will have their own savings upon retirement, sparing them from having to depend on others," CM Adityanath said.

He emphasised that sanitation workers clean the streets and neighborhoods while most people are still asleep, that too regardless of the season and even during festivals.

The Chief Minister said that during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, a high standard of cleanliness was maintained despite the arrival of 66 crore pilgrims, which was the result of the hard work of the sanitation staff.

CM Adityanath alleged that before 2014, the lanes of Varanasi were plagued by filth; the streets were congested with traffic, and there was a persistent power crisis.

"Stray cattle roamed the roads, and land mafias created an atmosphere of fear by seizing the properties and homes of the poor and business owners. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kashi has undergone a complete transformation. It is now moving forward with a new radiance, all while preserving its rich spiritual and cultural heritage," he said.

New Delhi, Oct 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court on Thursday recorded the assurance given by the Delhi Police that all possible measures under the law would be taken to control the proposed protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijeet Dipke at Connaught Place on Friday.

A Bench of Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma took on record the assurance given by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, appearing for the Centre and Delhi Police, after a petitioner expressed apprehension that the proposed demonstration could disrupt business activities in Connaught Place.

The High Court was hearing a plea filed by Anil Kumar Gupta, a street vendor at Palika Bazar in Connaught Place, seeking directions to restrain the CJP from organising any agitation, demonstration, march or gathering at Central Park or any other place not designated as a protest venue.

Senior advocate Sacchin Puri, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the proposed demonstration could severely affect business activities in the area, particularly as it coincides with a major Hindu festival and the festive weekend.

Puri urged the High Court to directly restrain Dipke from holding the protest, stating that the traders had already suffered substantial losses over the past week and would be severely affected if the disruption continued through the weekend.

The ACJ Sambre-led Bench was informed that Dipke had already been served notice through email.

Recording the assurance given by the Centre’s law officer, the High Court said that the petitioner’s apprehensions would be addressed and all possible measures under the law would be taken to control and regulate the activities of the CJP founder.

"The respondents (authorities) have already taken action to control and regulate the activities of respondent no. 6 (Dipike) and all possible measures under the law will be taken," the High Court recorded in its order, posting the matter for further consideration on November 3.

The plea was mentioned before the Acting Chief Justice earlier in the day by Puri, who sought urgent intervention to prevent the proposed gathering, apprehending that it could lead to traffic congestion, disruption of public life, and financial losses to traders in Connaught Place.

The proposed demonstration follows a call by CJP founder Dipke asking people to gather at Central Park at 5 p.m. on Friday to wave the national flag in protest against the arrest of the party's co-conveners, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

In a video message posted on X on Wednesday, Dipke described the proposed agitation as 'Lehra do Tiranga' and urged people to participate, asserting that waving the national flag was not a crime.

Das and Ranka were sent to five days' judicial custody on Wednesday in connection with the Jantar Mantar trespassing case, while another CJP leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released on a personal bond. The three party members were placed under preventive arrest over allegations of trespassing at Jantar Mantar, which has been de-notified as a designated protest site.

They were booked for alleged trespassing, violation of bond conditions, and obstruction of public servants in the discharge of their duties.
