New Delhi, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kerala Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad’s remarks that women should remain at home and stay away from public life have triggered a sharp debate, with Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) leader Dr Shalini Ali strongly opposing the views and asserting that "India's daughters need an open sky, not confinement".

Calling the remarks highly objectionable and reflective of a regressive mindset, Dr Ali said women cannot be treated as possessions to be protected by restricting their freedom. She maintained that confining women in the name of dignity or security undermines their rights, aspirations and achievements.

"A woman is neither a gold necklace nor a decorative object that can be locked away in a box. She is a free human being with dreams, talent, hard work and the right to make her own decisions," she said.

According to her, the idea of keeping women confined within the four walls of the home instead of educating and empowering them pushes society backwards. She argued that real respect for women lies in recognising their capabilities and allowing them the freedom to choose their own paths.

The controversy erupted after the Grand Mufti said during a speech that women should remain within their homes and avoid public life, claiming that the Quran advocates such a position. He also defended the practice of purdah, saying it was intended to safeguard women’s dignity and security.

Seeking to clarify his remarks, the Grand Mufti said his intention was not to demean women but to ensure their protection and respect. However, a comparison he used during the speech became the focal point of the controversy.

To explain his position, he referred to a gold necklace displayed in a jewellery shop. According to him, a gold necklace is kept securely inside a cupboard, a box, and protective packaging before being shown to customers, whereas a stone-grinding machine is often left by the roadside. He argued that if a gold necklace were left on the road, passers-by could touch it, affecting its beauty and value.

Using this analogy, he suggested that bringing women into public life could result in "great destruction" and described purdah as a system designed to prevent such consequences.

The comparison immediately drew criticism from many quarters, with opponents questioning why a woman should be likened to an inanimate object in the first place. Critics argued that while a piece of jewellery can be owned and stored, women are autonomous individuals with constitutional rights and independent identities.

Dr Ali said the analogy itself reflected the problem with such thinking. "A woman is not anyone’s property. She is the owner of her own life. Her education, career, public participation and right to make decisions cannot be curtailed in the name of protection," she said.

She pointed out that contemporary India has moved far beyond the notion that a woman’s role is limited to home and family. Women today serve as fighter pilots, scientists, doctors, engineers, judges, journalists, entrepreneurs, and sportspersons, contributing extensively to nation-building across sectors.

"They are defending the nation’s borders, conducting scientific research, treating patients, shaping public discourse and representing India globally. Restricting women to the home is not merely limiting their aspirations; it is restricting the potential of half the country’s population," she said.

Highlighting the growing role of women in national life, Dr Ali noted that Indian women now serve in all three branches of the armed forces and have made significant achievements in science, medicine, engineering, economics, education, aviation, and sports.

"A woman who can defend the nation is fully capable of making decisions about her own future. Women must not be viewed as weak. Their abilities should be trusted and respected," she added.

In his speech, the Grand Mufti also argued that religious scholars had promoted similar views for generations and that such teachings had helped preserve women’s dignity. Defending his right to express these opinions, he said religious scholars have a responsibility to speak on matters of faith and indicated that he would continue to do so despite criticism.

He further referred to Islamic history, saying Islam had ended practices such as female infanticide and granted women rights related to property and inheritance. According to him, restrictions on women’s public participation should be viewed as measures intended to ensure respect and protection rather than discrimination.

However, Dr Ali and the Muslim Rashtriya Manch rejected that interpretation, contending that dignity cannot be equated with confinement.

The organisation maintained that if a woman chooses to focus on her home and family, that is her right, but if she wishes to join the armed forces, become a doctor, pursue journalism, run a business or participate actively in public life, that choice must also be respected.

“The decision must belong to the woman herself. No one else has the authority to decide the course of her life on her behalf,” the organisation said.

Jaipur, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Six people from Rajasthan were killed and around 20 others injured in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district early Monday morning.

The victims, all from Karauli district, were travelling in a pickup truck to Soron to perform the ritual immersion of ashes and take a holy dip in the Ganga when their vehicle collided head‑on with an oncoming truck near Mohanpura in the Kotwali Sadar area, opposite Shiv Inter College.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. The impact was severe, killing six passengers instantly. The deceased include three women and three men.

Around 20 others sustained injuries, including seven children, six women and seven men. Nine of them were reported to be in critical condition and were referred to Aligarh after receiving first aid at Kasganj District Hospital. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and assisted in rescue efforts. Police and administrative teams also reached the site, rescuing passengers trapped inside the damaged pickup and transporting the injured to hospital by ambulance. Doctors declared six people dead. Police took custody of the bodies, completed inquest proceedings and sent them for post‑mortem examinations.

The truck involved in the collision was reportedly carrying animal feed from Shahjahanpur to Jaipur. Preliminary information suggests the truck may have been travelling on the wrong side of the road. Police are also examining whether the pickup driver may have fallen asleep while driving. Both vehicles have been impounded, and an investigation is underway.

Police identified the deceased as Umesh (26), son of Bablu, resident of Revai village, Karauli; Prem (50), wife of Tejram, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Nehru (25), son of Ramkhiladi, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Reena (32), wife of Karamveer, resident of Salempur Kala, Bharatpur; Anjali (26), wife of Manish, resident of Revai, under Mahua Ibrahimpur police station, Karauli; and Ramjit/Ranjit (33), son of Tejram, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, under Hindaun police station, Karauli.

News of the accident triggered grief and panic among families of the deceased and injured in Rajasthan. Relatives have begun travelling to Kasganj. Police and district administration officials are coordinating medical treatment for the injured and assisting the families of those who died.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.

New Delhi, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court on Monday stayed proceedings arising from an FIR registered against Dehradun gym owner Deepak Kumar alias Akki in connection with an incident involving a Muslim shopkeeper, and also stayed the operation of an Uttarakhand High Court order restraining him from posting videos or messages related to the incident on social media.

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the interim order while hearing a special leave petition (SLP) filed by Deepak Kumar against the FIR registered by the Uttarakhand Police.

The apex court issued notice to the respondent authorities, returnable in four weeks, and directed that proceedings pursuant to the impugned FIR shall remain stayed in the meantime.

The Supreme Court also stayed the effect and operation of the Uttarakhand High Court order to the extent it restrained Deepak from making social media posts concerning the incidents of January 26 and January 31, 2026.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Deepak, submitted that his client had intervened after some Bajrang Dal members allegedly objected to a Muslim shopkeeper using the word “Baba” in the name of his shop.

According to Singhvi, when Deepak was confronted and asked his name, he replied: "Mohammed Deepak".

The incident, which took place on Republic Day, was recorded on video and subsequently went viral on social media. Singhvi argued that Deepak had himself lodged complaints regarding the incident, but no action was taken on those complaints, while an FIR was subsequently registered against him. He also argued that a rioting charge under Section 191 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) had initially been invoked against the petitioner despite the essential ingredients not being made out, and was subsequently dropped.

Singhvi further submitted that instead of granting relief to the petitioner, the High Court had imposed a “blanket gag order” restraining him from posting material about the incident on social media.

The proceedings before the Supreme Court arise from an earlier writ petition filed by Deepak Kumar and another petitioner before the Uttarakhand High Court.

In its March 20, 2026 order, the High Court had declined to quash the FIR at that stage, observing that all the offences were punishable with less than seven years' imprisonment and directing the investigating officer to follow the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in the Arnesh Kumar v. State of Bihar judgment. It noted that notices under Section 35(3) of the BNSS had already been issued to 20 persons in connection with the incidents of January 26 and January 31.

The High Court had also recorded that two subsequent FIRs -- FIR No. 0025 of 2026 dated February 8 and FIR No. 0028 of 2026 dated February 11 -- had been registered on the complaint of Deepak.

The Uttarakhand government had opposed the plea, contending that the petitioners had suppressed the fact that they had earlier been provided police protection from February 3 to March 13, 2026. It also said a police picket had been deployed near Deepak's gym. It further claimed before the High Court that the petitioners were repeatedly being asked to join the investigation but were instead circulating messages and videos concerning the incidents on social media, which could affect law and order and communal harmony.

The High Court, while disposing of the writ petition, restrained the petitioners from sending messages or videos on social media concerning the January 26 and January 31 incidents and directed them to cooperate with the investigation. It also declined the plea for a departmental inquiry against police officials, observing that such a direction could hamper the ongoing investigation.

The Supreme Court's interim order has now stayed the proceedings pursuant to the impugned FIR as well as the operation of the Uttarakhand High Court's restrictions concerning social media posts, pending further consideration of Deepak's plea.

Chennai, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madras High Court on Monday reserved its order on a petition filed by We The Leaders founder K. Annamalai seeking to quash criminal proceedings over remarks he allegedly made at a 2023 press conference about Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and Madurai Meenakshi Amman.

Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan reserved the verdict after hearing advocate Arun C. Mohan, representing Annamalai, and counsel V. Suresh, appearing for Salem‑based activist Piyush Manush, who had initiated the case through a private complaint in November 2023.

The prosecution centres on Annamalai’s reported claim that Thevar had warned in 1956 that a “blood abhishekam” would be performed for Meenakshi Amman if atheists continued insulting believers. The statement was allegedly made while Annamalai was responding to DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments on Sanatana Dharma.

Following the complaint, the Tamil Nadu government granted sanction on April 28, 2024, under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to prosecute Annamalai under provisions of the Indian Penal Code. A Salem judicial magistrate took cognisance of the alleged offences and issued summons in February 2026, prompting Annamalai to approach the High Court.

Mohan argued that his client had merely expressed a political opinion and referred to a historically documented disagreement involving Thevar and former chief minister C. Annadurai. Although different accounts of the episode existed, he said their central theme was that Annadurai spoke at a temple event and Thevar objected to his remarks.

The defence also contended that the magistrate acted without holding a preliminary inquiry or allowing Annamalai to be heard. It further maintained that the complainant had not identified two distinct communities between which the statement had allegedly sought to promote hostility.

Opposing the plea, Suresh argued that the magistrate had correctly taken cognisance of a provocative statement allegedly intended to create communal divisions. Citing judicial precedents, he also submitted that Annamalai had repeatedly made similar speeches while serving as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Tamil Nadu president.

The complainant’s counsel maintained that the remarks attracted Sections 153A and 505(1)(c) of the IPC, relating respectively to promoting enmity between groups and inciting one community to commit offences against another. He urged the court to dismiss the petition and allow the prosecution to proceed.

The High Court will formally pronounce its decision on the petition at a later date.

New Delhi, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kerala’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad has stirred a fresh controversy with his remarks that women should remain confined to their homes and should not enter the public sphere, with leaders across party lines on Monday criticising his statement and maintaining that women should have the freedom to be independent and participate in public life.

The controversy erupted after the cleric, also known as Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, while speaking at the Hubbul Rasool conference in Kochi, compared women with gold ornaments that need to be kept safely inside a box. He further claimed that bringing women into the public sphere could result in “great destruction”.

"Women should remain confined within their homes. They should not enter the public sphere. The Holy Quran says so," Kanthapuram said.

Speaking to IANS, Shiv Sena spokesperson Shaina NC criticised the remarks. "How regressive is it to say that women should not appear on public platforms and that they are a great distraction? I mean, the Quran nowhere says that women should sit at home and be confined to their homes. Public appearances are part of living in a civil society."

Kerala Minister for Women and Child Development Bindu Krishna also rejected the remarks, saying such statements were unacceptable in a progressive society.

"A society like Keralam cannot accept such statements. Statements of this kind push women back by centuries. We abide by the Constitution of India, which guarantees equality to women and men, irrespective of gender, religion, or any other factor. Therefore, we cannot accept such statements. Everyone has the right to express their views and opinions, but we cannot accept statements of this nature," she said.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said the remarks were wrong and stressed that women should be independent.

“This is wrong. This should not happen. Women should be independent. Religious leaders should remain silent on such matters concerning society,” Roy said.

Congress MP Imran Masood questioned the cleric’s interpretation of Islam and cited historical examples of prominent women in Islamic history.

"Someone who is not an Islamic scholar cannot know about Islam. Who was Razia Sultan? What status does Hazrat Aisha hold for us? A person who has no knowledge of Islam cannot be called an Islamic scholar just by growing a beard or wearing a cap,” Masood said.

Congress leader Udit Raj also condemned the remarks, saying women are guaranteed equal rights under the Constitution.

"Abusing the womb of the woman who gave birth to a person is not right. How can such a thing happen? Our Indian Constitution grants freedom, equality, equal rights and an equal vote. Nonsense will not be tolerated here, and strict action should be taken against such an individual," he said.

New Delhi, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticised Karnataka Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi over his remarks, where he described Islam as "superior to other religions" and also expressed desire to visit Mecca. Congress leaders however brushed aside the criticism and backlash, calling it a matter of personal choice and opinion.

The controversy erupted after Rayareddi made the controversial remarks, while addressing a mass marriage programme, organised by the Muslim community in Kuknoor in Koppal district on Sunday.

“I would like to say that Islam is shreshta dharam (great religion) than other dharmas,” the minister said, adding that he believed there were several misconceptions surrounding the religion.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the minister’s desire to perform Hajj was a personal matter, but pointed out that the pilgrimage is restricted to Muslims.

“Look, now in a Congress leader’s mind, in a minister’s mind, this desire for Hajj has arisen. Hajj can only be performed by someone who is a Muslim. For that, one will have to adopt Islam. If they want to go to Mecca and Medina and perform Hajj, they cannot do so without adopting Islam,” Hussain told IANS.

He added that the Constitution provides citizens with the freedom to adopt and practise a religion of their choice.

“If this desire has arisen in the mind of this Congress minister, then that is his personal desire. What can be said about this? On this, Congress leaders should answer,” he said.

Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Chalwadi Narayan Swami said, "Congress is engaged in appeasement politics. They are ready to do anything for Congress... Let me tell you one thing: Congress does not oppose anyone. Islam is also a religion. You can do anything in your house. We are Hindus. You can do it, no problem. But when a politician does such dirty work for the sake of a vote bank, how can we accept this."

He further said, "Basavaraj Rai Reddy's statement is very wrong, and he has condemned Hindutva. As a Hindu, it is a sin to speak against Hindutva. It is a sin."

Congress leader Udit Raj defended Rayareddi, saying the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression and allows individuals to hold their own religious beliefs.

“India guarantees freedom of expression. It is their choice and personal opinion. Someone may consider Christianity great, someone Judaism, someone Islam, someone Hinduism, or someone Buddhism. That is their personal matter,” Raj said.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also defended Rayareddi and said the minister had clearly stated that there was something to learn from every religion.

“Mr. Basavaraj has clearly stated that there is something to learn from every religion, including Islam. There are certain aspects of Islam, Buddhism, Jainism or Hinduism that anybody can adopt and should adopt. What is wrong with that? What is the issue?” Kharge said.

He questioned BJP’s criticism of Rayareddi and referred to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks on the inclusion of Muslims in India.

“Why are BJP leaders attacking him? Mohan Bhagwat ji only said that, didn’t he? They don’t listen to Mohan Bhagwat ji anymore. Now, the BJP has grown bigger than the RSS,” Kharge said.

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma said every citizen has the constitutional right to follow their religion and faith.

“The Constitution of India gives every citizen the freedom to follow their own religion and faith. It is their right, and we cannot violate anyone’s rights. If someone wants to visit Mecca, they are free to do so. However, they should follow all the rules and regulations there. No one has any issue with that,” Verma said.

Bengaluru, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R. Ashoka on Monday launched a sharp attack on Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi over his reported “Islam is superior” remarks, accusing the Congress party of insulting Sanatana Dharma for “vote-bank politics”.

Taking to social media platform X, Ashoka questioned whether there was “any boundary left” for Congress when it came to allegedly insulting Hinduism.

“Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy has openly disparaged the Hindu faith by declaring Islam to be ‘superior to other religions’ and publicly boasting about avoiding Hindu mutts and temples,” Ashoka said.

Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Ashoka said ministers were bound by their constitutional oaths to uphold equality and treat all religions with equal respect.

“Mr. Rahul Gandhi, constitutional oaths bind ministers to uphold equality and treat all faiths with equal respect - not to rank religions or declare one superior to another,” he said.

Ashoka alleged that Rayareddi’s remarks were not an isolated statement but reflected what he described as the “pseudo-secular ideology” of the Congress leadership.

“This is not an isolated slip of the tongue. It is a direct reflection of the pseudo-secular ideology preached by Rahul Gandhi and the INC India High Command, where belittling the Hindu faith is rewarded and appeasement politics is institutionalized,” he said.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai also criticised Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi over his controversial remarks on Islam, accusing him of violating the spirit of the Constitution and hurting the sentiments of people belonging to other religions.

In a statement, Bommai said Rayareddi, whom he described as the “most intelligent minister” in Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s government, had once again made a controversial statement and “insulted the Constitution” under which he had taken the oath of office.

Bommai said secularism was one of the fundamental principles of the Constitution and alleged that Rayareddi had hurt the sentiments of people belonging to religions other than Islam by saying that one religion was superior to another.

“As a minister, by saying that one religion is superior to another, Rayareddi has hurt the sentiments of people belonging to religions other than Islam,” Bommai said.

He accused the minister of disturbing communal harmony in society and said such conduct was unbecoming of a minister.

“Rayareddi has disturbed communal harmony in society. This is not the work of a minister,” Bommai said.

Bommai demanded that Rayareddi immediately apologise for his remarks. He also called upon Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to take action against the minister if he failed to apologise.

“The people of the state are demanding that he apologise immediately. Otherwise, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar should take action against him,” Bommai said.

Ashoka and Bommai’s comments come amid a political row over Rayareddi’s recent remarks on Islam. Speaking at a free mass marriage ceremony organised for members of the Muslim community at Kukanur on the occasion of Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary, Rayareddi had praised Islam and said there was something to learn from every religion.

Rayareddi had also expressed his desire to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage and said people should study different religions and understand the history behind them. He stressed that good principles were present in all religions and cautioned against religious fanaticism and casteism.

The remarks have drawn criticism from BJP leaders, who have accused the Congress minister of hurting Hindu sentiments. Congress leaders, meanwhile, have defended Rayareddi, saying his comments were about learning from the positive aspects of different religions.

Home Minister Priyank Kharge had earlier questioned what was wrong with Rayareddi’s statement, saying there was something to learn from every religion, including Islam, Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism.

Orchha, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said the grand Shri Ram Raja Lok being developed in Orchha will give a major boost to the town's religious significance and help establish it as a prominent pilgrimage destination for devotees from India and abroad.

CM Yadav made the remarks while interacting with the media at Orchha in Niwari district on the second and concluding day of the state BJP's executive committee meeting.

The Chief Minister said the state government was focusing on the comprehensive development of major pilgrimage centres, with religious tourism aimed at strengthening local economies and generating employment.

"After the construction of Shri Mahakal Mahalok, there has been a major change in Ujjain's economy and a significant increase in the number of devotees. In the same manner, major pilgrimage centres of Madhya Pradesh will be developed comprehensively, promoting religious tourism and creating new employment opportunities at the local level," CM Yadav said.

He said Orchha's religious importance was centred around the revered Shri Ram Raja Temple, where Lord Ram is worshipped as the king.

The CM said the government was also working to preserve the town's centuries-old cultural and architectural heritage and connect future generations with it. "Shri Ram Raja Temple is part of our historical and cultural heritage. The architecture created by the rulers here is a living example of our rich legacy. The old structures and buildings are being revived using the same materials that were originally used in their construction so that their original form is preserved," he said.

CM Yadav also inspected the ongoing construction work at Shri Ram Raja Lok and reviewed its progress. He directed officials to ensure that the project was completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on quality.

He said Orchha, once the capital of Bundelkhand under the Bundela rulers, had a rich legacy of temples, palaces and other historic structures that needed to be preserved.

The government is engaging skilled craftsmen for restoration and reconstruction work, he said, adding that traditional construction techniques would be used wherever possible.

Highlighting Orchha's architectural uniqueness, CM Yadav said its historic buildings were designed to remain cool during summers and warm during winters, despite having been built centuries before the advent of air-conditioning.

He said the development of Orchha through the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation would further strengthen the town's religious and heritage tourism potential.

Bengaluru, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev has called for the creation of a five-nation Himalayan Board comprising India, China, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan to strengthen regional cooperation in tackling disasters in the fragile Himalayan region, an official statement by the Isha Foundation said on Monday.

The statement said Sadhguru, speaking at an event titled “In Solidarity With Nepal” in Kathmandu on Sunday, also pledged Rs one crore to Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.

The disaster has left thousands of people missing, and many feared dead. Among those still unaccounted for are 77 participants of Isha Sacred Walks Kailash Sojourn who were at the Gyirong immigration centre on the Chinese side of the border when the disaster struck. Three Isha volunteers stationed on the Nepal side are also reportedly unaccounted for.

Calling for cooperation that goes beyond political boundaries, Sadhguru said the Himalayan countries must treat the mountain range as a shared ecological system.

“The mountains don't know your political affiliation. The mountains don't know what nonsense or language you speak. Even if you cannot administer it as one body, at least consultation must happen as one body,” he said.

He stressed that the proposed Himalayan Board should be established without delay, arguing that the region's fragile ecosystem requires collective action.

“A body comprising all these nations where the Himalayan ranges run has to happen now. Even if political administrations are separate, the mountain ranges have to be looked at as a feature that needs to be protected for future generations,” Sadhguru said.

He said the scale of the disaster was beyond what could have reasonably been anticipated and argued that Nepal should not be expected to handle its aftermath alone.

“Nobody expected something like this to happen... But now that it's happened, we must look at this because this is not something a small nation like Nepal can solve by themselves,” he said.

During the event, actor Manisha Koirala asked Sadhguru what people could learn from such devastation. Responding to the question, he said people should remain conscious of the fragility of life rather than waiting for disasters to remind them of mortality.

“As a human being, we should not wait for disasters to happen. The first and the foremost thing to understand about being human is that we should know every moment of our life that we are mortal,” he said.

Sadhguru also cautioned against attributing the disaster to divine or mystical reasons, saying such explanations could undermine the suffering of those affected.

“Physical phenomena are physical phenomena ruled by physical laws. So let's not belittle human suffering by giving philosophies or ideologies or mystical explanations,” he said.

Offering further support to those who died in the disaster, Sadhguru announced that Kala Bhairava Karma, a consecrated death ritual performed at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore for those who have died natural or unnatural deaths, would be conducted for the departed.

The “In Solidarity With Nepal” event brought together people in Kathmandu to express support for those affected by the disaster. Sadhguru said immediate relief must be accompanied by long-term regional cooperation to protect the Himalayan ecosystem and strengthen preparedness for future disasters.

New Delhi, Aug 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political reactions are pouring in over Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent remarks on Hindu-Muslim unity in New York, with BJP leaders backing his assertion of inclusivity while Opposition parties questioning his position and adherence to principles of equality and plurality, back home.

BJP National Spokesperson RP Singh said that the concept of Hinduism was inherently inclusive and could not be confined to a particular sect, religion or mode of worship.

“Hindu is inclusive. ‘Hindu’ is not the name of a sect, nor the name of a religion, nor can ‘Hindu’ be tied to a specific mode of worship. Being Hindu is a way of life,” Singh said.

He added that those who followed Hindutva or Hinduism viewed people belonging to different faiths and paths as equal. Singh said Bhagwat was therefore right in stating that a person could not claim to be a Hindu while being opposed to Muslims or refusing to accept them as part of society.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain also defended Bhagwat’s remarks, saying the message delivered by the RSS chief in the US was consistent with what he had said previously.

“There might be some narrow-minded people, some narrow individuals who think like that,” Hussain said, adding that irrespective of their mode of worship, Indian citizens belonged to the country. He said the concept of Hindutva did not exclude or isolate the Muslim community and cited the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.

However, Opposition leaders reacted cautiously, rather were critical of his remarks.

TMC MP Saugata Roy described the statement as a positive development, saying that everyone wanted unity and diversity in India. At the same time, he questioned whether Bhagwat’s latest position represented what he genuinely believed.

"It's a good thing. We all want unity and diversity in India. But I don't know whether Mohan Bhagwat has said something that he truly believes or not..." Roy told IANS.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said the Constitution was clear about equality for all citizens irrespective of gender, religion, caste and language.

"...The Constitution of India is very clear. It guarantees equality to everyone irrespective of gender, religion, caste and language. If someone follows their religion without violating the law, they have the same rights in India as everyone else," Tiwari said.

DMK spokesperson T. K. S. Elangovan invoked Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees citizens the freedom to profess, practise and propagate religion.

He accused the RSS and BJP of disregarding these constitutional provisions.

"They don't care about what the Constitution says. The Constitution guarantees every Indian citizen the fundamental right to profess, practice, and propagate any religion. There is no bar on anyone choosing or following a religion of their choice. That is what Article 25 of the Constitution provides. But they don't care about these constitutional rights. They are behaving like barbarians. That is what I say. They simply don't care about the law," he said.

Bhagwat said on Saturday that a Hindu who believes Muslims should have no place in India ceases to be a Hindu, asserting that Hindutva recognises the dignity of every human being and accepts different paths to the same truth.

Speaking at the “One World, One Humanity” faith leaders’ conference in New York, Bhagwat recalled a question posed by Muslims during his lecture series in Delhi in 2018.

He said some Muslim participants had asked him whether Muslims would be driven out because the RSS spoke about a “Hindu Rashtra”. Bhagwat said he had responded that such an approach was not Hindutva and that anyone who believed there should be no Muslim in Bharat ceased to be a Hindu.

He maintained that Hindu identity required acceptance of religious diversity and recognition of the equal worth of every individual.

New York, Aug 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Religious leaders from 30 countries have pledged to confront hatred, defend persecuted communities and ensure that artificial intelligence remains in the service of humanity.

The commitments were unveiled during a 'Universal Oneness' gathering at the Madison Square Garden in New York, attended by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat and representatives of several major faiths.

More than 200 religious representatives helped prepare the call to action after negotiations at a conference held earlier on Saturday.

"We will reject the use of religion to justify hatred, humiliation, dehumanisation or violence and teach that deep conviction can coexist with respect for those who believe differently," the declaration said.

It acknowledged both the power of faith to promote reconciliation and the history of religion being used to deepen divisions.

"We know the extraordinary power of faith to heal, reconcile, and inspire. And the painful truth that religion has sometimes been used to divide, exclude, and justify violence," it said.

The declaration came against the backdrop of armed conflicts, displacement and growing mistrust across societies. It warned that hatred now travels rapidly across borders through digital platforms.

"No government, institution, or technology can carry responsibility for the moment alone. Neither can religious leaders, but there is a responsibility that is uniquely ours," it said.

The leaders affirmed the dignity of every person and rejected the idea that unity requires people to abandon their individual beliefs or identities.

"Unity does not require conformity. Conviction does not require contempt," the declaration said.

Under five commitments, religious leaders pledged to examine the teachings and practices of their own communities, speak out when people are targeted and build relationships across religious and cultural boundaries.

"Peace begins with the courage to hold our own communities accountable," it said.

The leaders also promised to bring young people from different religious and cultural backgrounds together before disputes or tragedies arise.

"The person we know is harder to hate," the declaration said.

It called for joint service to people facing hunger, illness, displacement and persecution.

Cooperation, it said, must be evident through action and not merely public declarations.

"Our cooperation should be visible not only in what we say together, but in what we do together," it added.

The declaration also addressed decisions involving war, poverty, environmental protection and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

"We will insist that human progress remain in the service of human beings and that technology strengthen rather than diminish dignity, truth, freedom and human connection," it said.

Each participating leader was asked to undertake at least one concrete initiative. These could include bringing together communities that seldom interact, confronting hatred, creating opportunities for young people or serving alongside another religious group.

"We are not naive religious leaders alone cannot enforce limited hatred or reverse every injustice, but neither are we powerless," the declaration said.

During the gathering, participants tied rakhis on one another as symbols of connection, care and mutual responsibility.

Organisers said the tradition was being extended beyond families to friends, neighbours and communities.

Mohan Bhagwat has served as the Sarsanghchalak, or chief, of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 2009. The RSS, founded in 1925, is marking its centenary and has organisations and affiliates operating in several countries.

Bengaluru, Aug 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Isha Foundation on Saturday expressed fears for the safety of 80 participants of its Kailash Sojourn group who were at Gyirong Port when a devastating flood struck the area, saying the extent of destruction and information gathered from people on the ground had led teams to “expect the worst”.

In an update shared with the well-wishers and families of the participants, Isha Foundation said search and rescue operations were being carried out by Chinese authorities at Gyirong Port, where personnel and equipment had been deployed.

The rescue efforts were temporarily suspended on August 28 due to the risk of a second flood and resumed by noon local time, the organisation said.

“We wish with all our hearts that we could offer you something more hopeful. Everything our teams have seen, and everything those closest to the site have shared with us, has led us to expect the worst,” the statement said.

According to Isha Foundation, its teams have been positioned on both sides of the Nepal–China border at the closest locations permitted. Its team on the Chinese side is around 25 km from the Gyirong site and is in direct contact with frontline rescue teams and officials.

A coordination team on the Nepal side is stationed in Kathmandu as access to the affected area has been restricted. The organisation said the devastation on the Nepal side was extensive, with roads washed away and movement severely restricted.

The Isha team said it had been coordinating with the Office of the Prime Minister of India, Indian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing, the Nepali Army’s search and rescue team, Nepal Tourist Police and the Rescue Control Board.

It said information about the missing group had been provided to frontline rescue teams, while additional phone-signal information was also being shared to assist in the search. The organisation was also monitoring lists of rescued people and cross-checking them with the names of its participants.

“So far, there has been no released list of rescued individuals from the Chinese port that includes members of our group,” it said. Lists released by the Nepal government identifying survivors from affected downstream areas had also not contained the names of any members of the group, according to the statement.

The organisation said information gathered from local sources indicated that the valley at Gyirong Port was covered by an estimated 45–50 feet of silt and debris following the flood.

Local experts familiar with the terrain reportedly told the organisation’s on-ground team that it was highly unlikely anyone could have survived the force of the flooding.

The statement further said the floodwaters, mixed with debris, may have risen as high as 150 feet with immense force, “completely wiping out the whole building complex”.

Isha Foundation said it had corroborated visuals of the destruction with multiple local sources and people who had direct knowledge of the situation. However, it stressed that access to the affected area remained restricted and that it could not independently verify every detail.

“Everything in this update reflects our best understanding as of now, drawn from the authorities, published reporting, and people on the ground,” it said.

The organisation said the calamity had deeply affected its community and expressed solidarity with the families of the 80 participants and others affected by the disaster.

“Sadhguru and the whole Isha community are with you,” the statement said, adding that it would share further updates as more information became available.

New York, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that a Hindu who believes Muslims should have no place in India ceases to be a Hindu, asserting that Hindutva recognises the dignity of every human being and accepts different paths to the same truth.

Speaking at the “One World, One Humanity” faith leaders’ conference in New York, Bhagwat recalled a question posed to him by Muslims during a lecture series in Delhi in 2018.

“In 2018, during my lecture series in Delhi, several Muslim brothers present there asked me, ‘You are a Hindu organisation. You speak of Hindu Rashtra. What about us Muslims? Will you drive us out?’ I told them, ‘No, that is not Hindutva. If any Hindu thinks that there should be no Muslim in Bharat, he ceases to be a Hindu,’” Bhagwat said.

He said Hindu identity required an acceptance of religious diversity and the equal worth of every individual.

“If you want to call yourself Hindu, you must believe that all paths lead to the same goal. Every human being has dignity, and there is no difference between human beings. All these differences decorate nature, and we have to acknowledge them. But the reality that is always present is that we are one,” he said.

Bhagwat told the gathering of faith leaders that he was neither a religious scholar nor a religious authority. His experience, he said, came from working within Indian society and its long tradition of recognising the unity of humanity.

“I am not a religious scholar, nor a religious authority like you, but I am working in a society which traditionally says that religions might be different, but humanity is one. Truth is one, and humanity is a product of that truth. So humanity is one,” he said.

“That truth is one truth, but it is described in many ways according to the describer. Because as human beings, we are prisoners of the software that has been created in our heads,” Bhagwat added.

He said India’s tradition of coexistence had endured despite invasions and the loss of several elements of its civilisational heritage.

“Somehow, it happened in the course of history. I cannot point to the moment. After that, our society and our country became targets of foreign invasions, and so many things were lost. But that tradition still exists, which teaches common people the same thing: one world, one humanity,” he said.

“But, as you said, there is baggage that people unnecessarily carry. In our Bharat, people of all denominations live together because, traditionally, Bharat has given shelter to everybody,” he added.

Bhagwat said religious leaders must continue educating society because deviations could emerge when the message of human unity was not reinforced. He described the task as difficult but necessary in the present global climate.

“The work is eternal and should continue for some time. It should always continue because this has to be done from time to time by religious leaders. They have to impart this wisdom to humanity. But given the present condition of humanity, it will be a laborious, tedious and time-consuming job,” he said.

He also called for social habits capable of resisting materialism, the pursuit of influence and feelings of superiority. “All these things cause disturbances. So, we have to build societies that can withstand these attractions and views,” he said.

The RSS was founded in Nagpur in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. It describes itself as a volunteer-based cultural organisation and has grown into one of India’s largest social organisations, with a nationwide network of local branches.

Bhagwat has served as the RSS Sarsanghchalak, or chief, since 2009. His remarks in New York came during the organisation’s centenary period and formed part of his broader message on social harmony, religious coexistence and the concept of the world as one family.

Mehsana, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday made an unscheduled stop at Mewad village in Mehsana district while returning to Gandhinagar, where he interacted with local rural youth over a cup of tea after visiting the revered Bahucharaji temple.

The stop came after Patel attended an event in Mehsana. During the journey back to Gandhinagar, he made a spontaneous halt at Mewad and spent time with young people from the village.

The interaction over tea was described by the officials as reflecting his "simple and accessible" approach.

Earlier in the day, Patel visited the Bahucharaji Shakti Peeth, a prominent pilgrimage centre in Mehsana district, and offered prayers to Maa Bahuchar.

He performed the prescribed rituals and worshipped the deity according to traditional rites.

The temple trust and local administration welcomed the Chief Minister during his visit. After offering darshan, Patel prayed for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the people of Gujarat.

He also prayed for the state's continued development and overall progress. Patel expressed his respect for the sanctity of the temple and the faith of devotees and sought the blessings of Maa Adi Shakti for the continued progress and prosperity of Gujarat.

District In-charge Minister Pravin Mali, MLA Sukhaji Thakor and other officials accompanying the Chief Minister also offered prayers at the temple.

District Collector Shalini Duhan, District Development Officer Pradipsinh Rathod, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Himanshu Solanki and Resident Additional Collector Mayank Patel were among the officials present.

The visit also comes against the backdrop of ongoing redevelopment of the Bahucharaji temple.

Patel had laid the foundation stone for the first phase of its reconstruction in August 2024 and offered prayers at the temple on that occasion.

The first phase was announced with a project cost of Rs 76.51 crore.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political and religious leaders on Saturday lashed out at the All India Imam Association President Maulana Sajid Rashidi for an alleged objectionable remark, saying that he should be "ousted from the country" for harbouring such views.

Maulana Sajid Rashidi stirred a row by reportedly stating that the implementation of the Sharia law in India "will stop rape cases" in the country.

In a similar controversial remark, he had earlier said: "Rapes are occurring because marriages are being delayed. If you want to ensure your daughters' safety, get them married early."

Launching a harsh critique, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesperson Vinod Bansal said that such clerics should be "ousted from India at the earliest".

"People with such mentality should not be allowed to stay in India. Such 'Maulanas' are poisonous snakes in the name of Islam and should be dealt with according to the law. Strong action should be taken against such a 'Maulana'. who doesn't acknowledge India's Constitution," he told IANS.

"He could either be in jail or ousted from the country," he added.

Echoing similar view, Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party Chief, Om Prakash Rajbhar, said: "If you want to live in India, you have to abide by the Indian Constitution. If you do not want to live in India and want to follow a new law, then go to Pakistan."

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dinesh Sharma said: "Criminals need to be punished according to the law. India will be governed by the Constitution, not Sharia law, and everyone has the freedom to practice their religion here. However, the country will have one criminal law for all."

"People involved with religious matters should not do politics on women's security," he told IANS.

All India Muslim Jamaat National President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi said: "India can be neither a Hindu nor an Islamic nation, so implementation of Sharia law is not possible here."

Maintaining that India functions according to its democratic system, Bareilvi added: "People of different faiths stay in India and accordingly practise their religions. This right has been granted by the Constitution, because of which India has gained global recognition."

Referring to Maulana Rashidi, All India Muslim Jamaat Chief said: "Whoever talks about the implementation of Sharia law in India, that is not possible here. Otherwise, the other community will also seek the creation of a 'Hindu state', which will ultimately lead to conflicts. Such a situation is not in the welfare of a nation."

New Delhi, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid a controversy over the alleged guidelines issued by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) restricting the sale of meat in and around Durga Puja pandals in West Bengal, VHP International President Alok Kumar on Saturday issued a clarification, saying that no such thing has been issued by the right-wing outfit and that it was a personal suggestion made by a member, in response to a reporter's question during the press conference.

Speaking to IANS, the VHP Chief said: "Vishva Hindu Parishad has not issued any directions regarding the arrangements at Durga Puja pandals (in West Bengal). We know that we don't have any right to issue such directions and we don't make such claims."

Mentioning that the organisation holds meetings in many parts of the country ahead of such major festivals, Alok Kumar said: "Ramlila committees have meetings two months before the Ramlila in Delhi. Similar meeting of the organisers who put up Durga Puja pandals in Bengal, was hosted by the VHP where discussions were held regarding the kind of arrangements at the community pandals."

"We are of the view that worship of the Goddess (Durga) should take place according to tradition and atmosphere at the pandals should be that of love and devotion. Discussions were held on these aspects, now whatever they (organisers) they seem right, will be done accordingly," the VHP Chief added.

Alok Kumar also clarified: "There was no mention of vegetarian, non-vegetarian or any kind of food during that meeting. During the press conference later, while answering a correspondent, Swamiji (Swami Nirgunananda) said it would be a good suggestion to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the food stalls inside the pandals, but this topic was not discussed at the meeting."

"Therefore, I want to clarify that no decision has been taken regarding the consumption of vegetarian or non-vegetarian food (at Durga Puja Pandals in Bengal). There is no guideline and no opinion was conveyed regarding this, at the meeting. Swamiji expressed his own view during the press conference, so framing narratives on that is not right," he emphasised.

However, the VHP Chief said cleanliness, hygiene and traditions should be followed at the pandals.

"We have also advised the singing of the full version of 'Vande Mataram' on one day (of the Durga Puja festival) and also the worship of Bharat Mata," he added.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) The set of guidelines issued by the right-wing outfit Vishva Hindu Parishad on Durga Puja celebrations in West Bengal has triggered a political debate, with leaders from the JD(U), Congress and other parties expressing contrasting views on the organisation’s 'command' to restrict the sale and consumption of non-vegetarian food in and around puja pandals.

Reacting to the VHP’s guidelines, JD(U) National General Secretary Shyam Rajak said stopping the sale of meat and fish during Durga Puja was a positive step, but raised questions about how the guidelines would apply to traditional animal sacrifices performed during the festival.

“It is a good thing that the sale of meat and fish is stopped during Durga Puja. However, one concern is that people perform animal sacrifices during Durga Puja, and animal sacrifice is also part of certain traditions and religious practices. When such sacrifices take place, what will happen to the meat? Will people be allowed to use it or not?” Rajak said.

He urged the VHP to consider the issue and said that if the organisation wanted to regulate the sale of meat and fish, it should first appeal to religious communities to end the practice of animal sacrifice.

The VHP’s position received support from Upasana Arora, President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Indraprastha Province.

Speaking in Delhi, Arora said she viewed the guidelines positively and described them as consistent with traditional practices associated with Durga Puja.

“I see this in a very positive way because, ever since I can remember, from my childhood, I have seen that during Durga Puja, people generally stop consuming meat and alcohol in their homes. I do not even allow onions into my home during these days,” she said.

Arora added that she considered such practices part of Indian culture and said the VHP had a responsibility to preserve and promote those values.

Congress leader Udit Raj, however, strongly opposed the VHP’s demand, questioning the organisation’s authority to issue such guidelines.

“Who are they to prescribe what people should do? Are they elected representatives? They are goons and miscreants, and they create a wrong narrative. What someone eats and what someone gets to eat is a constitutional right. They have no right to issue any circular on this,” Raj said.

Notably, the VHP had issued its guidelines on Friday ahead of Durga Puja in Bengal, urging organisers to return to traditional practices and ensure that non-vegetarian food is neither sold nor consumed in and around puja pandals.

The organisation clarified that it was not seeking a blanket ban on non-vegetarian food during the festival, acknowledging that Durga Puja in Bengal has historically not been strictly vegetarian. However, it stressed that the sanctity of the goddess’s idol should be maintained and that the idol should remain free from contact with non-vegetarian food.

The guidelines have consequently sparked a wider discussion over religious traditions, dietary choices, cultural practices and the role of organisations in regulating activities around religious celebrations in public.

Washington, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has said Krishna consciousness can unite humanity amid growing conflict, division and competing identities, as he visited historic ISKCON sites in New York during the organisation’s 60th anniversary year.

“The world is Krishna Consciousness. In today’s world, there are so many conflicts and so many dualities. The only thing that unites us is consciousness. And that consciousness is Krishna Consciousness,” Bhagwat said.

Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, visited the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and paid tribute to its founder, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

He was shown exhibits documenting ISKCON’s beginnings in New York and its transformation into a global spiritual movement.

“We are one, and we have to navigate through these dualities of this world with the strong understanding that, though there are so many diversities, dualities and conflicts, really, it is all Krishna,” Bhagwat said.

“That is what the Gita teaches us,” he added.

The RSS chief said the Bhagavad Gita did not ask people to withdraw from the world or abandon their responsibilities.

“Don’t run away from life. Stand firm. Do your duty. Because everything is Krishna,” he said.

Bhagwat said the world could be transformed if that message reached every person.

“If that message reaches every heart, the world will definitely be a better world,” he said. “It will not be the material world we now see today. It will be a heavenly abode for every human being.”

He congratulated ISKCON on its 60th anniversary and noted that the RSS was celebrating its centenary.

Bhagwat said the organisations were using different methods and working under different circumstances, but were engaged in spreading the same consciousness.

“We are all doing the same work of spreading the Krishna Consciousness through different methods, in different situations, in our own special ways,” he said.

Gauranga Das, a member of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission and Director of Govardhan Ecovillage, said Bhagwat encouraged the organisation to expand its propagation of Sanatan Dharma and Hinduism.

“Through his message, he encouraged ISKCON to continue taking forward the propagation of Sanatan Dharma and Hinduism in the way we have been doing,” Das said.

Bhagwat also visited 26 Second Avenue in Manhattan, the address where Prabhupada established ISKCON in 1966. He offered flowers and paid tribute to the spiritual leader.

“Sixty years ago, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, established ISKCON here in 1966. The famous address is 26 2nd Avenue, Manhattan,” Das said.

Das said Bhagwat praised ISKCON for distributing 60 crore copies of the Bhagavad Gita in 80 languages and establishing 1,300 temples in 120 countries. He also encouraged the organisation to take the message of Sanatan Dharma to families around the world.

During the visit, Bhagwat signed a visitor’s book, describing the site as an inspiring venue that brought the “matchless gift” of Krishna consciousness to the world. He wrote that he felt humbled and “surcharged with the feeling of pure sattvik love” towards the divine presence residing in everybody and everything.

Das said Bhagwat was also convening an interfaith conference attended by religious leaders. The discussions were centred on community, love, compassion and humility. ISKCON representatives, including its Communications Director Anuttama Das, were participating.

Bhagwat a day was scheduled to address more than 6,000 people at Madison Square Garden on Hindu Sanatan Dharma, Indian culture and the contribution of Indians living in different countries.

ISKCON was founded in New York in 1966 by Prabhupada, who travelled from India to the United States to teach the principles of bhakti yoga and the Bhagavad Gita. The movement subsequently established temples, communities and cultural centres around the world.

The RSS was founded in Nagpur in 1925 and is observing its centenary. Bhagwat has served as its Sarsanghchalak since 2009.

Mumbai, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) On the auspicious occasion of the Raksha Bandhan festival, Tirthswarup Swami of the BAPS (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) Swaminarayan Mandir, in Mumbai, tied a sacred 'rakhi' from His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj to Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.

This comes days after Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in New Jersey, during his tour of the United States.

Tirthswarup Swami also conveyed Mahant Swami Maharaj’s blessings to the Maharashtra Governor.

During the interaction, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed his deep appreciation for BAPS’s spiritual and humanitarian initiatives and commended the organisation for its valuable service to society.

Varma also conveyed his heartfelt greetings and respects to Mahant Swami Maharaj.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Chief Minister was warmly welcomed by the BAPS saints at the Akshardham Temple in New Jersey, a centre of spirituality and culture.

He lauded its rich representation of Indian culture, spiritual traditions, and service to society and appreciated the efforts of Gujarati communities in preserving Indian culture and values abroad.

The Gujarat Chief Minister was on a week-long visit to the US and Canada, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

Srinagar, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jammu and Kashmir's senior religious leader and chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Friday termed the Nepal tragedy a warning, as he called for a balance between development & environmental preservation.

Delivering the Friday congregational sermon at the historic Jama Masjid in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar, he said that the devastation being witnessed in Nepal and across the Himalayan region should deeply concern all of us, as these are not isolated events.

"They are warnings of how vulnerable our mountain ecosystems have become as glaciers collapse."

“We express our heartfelt solidarity with the people of Nepal at this difficult time, and pray for those who have lost their lives, for the safety and early recovery of the many people who remain missing, and for strength and relief for all those affected," the Mirwaiz said.

He noted that Jammu and Kashmir is part of the same fragile Himalayan belt. “We are already seeing more intense rainfall, cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides. Climate change is undoubtedly a major factor, but we must also ask whether our own pattern of development is making the situation more dangerous.”

The Mirwaiz said that gifted with the natural beauty of mountains, lakes and rivers, Kashmir attracts tourists and travellers and is a source of sustenance to a large population here.

"But the manner in which we are recklessly exploiting this ecology for commerce and in the name of development is very worrying," he said, warning that mountains are being cut and blasted for roads, trees are being felled, hotels and buildings are coming up in ecologically sensitive areas, and natural drainage channels are being disturbed.

“If this continues without proper scientific and environmental safeguards, we are creating conditions for far greater disasters in the future."

The Mirwaiz said equally worrying is the continued encroachment of wetlands, lakes, and flood channels.

"I appeal to people not to occupy or build upon these areas. Wetlands are not unused land; they are natural buffers that absorb excess water and protect human settlements," he highlighted.

Referring to the Dal Lake here, the Mirwaiz said: "We have only to look at the condition of our own Dal Lake to understand how prolonged encroachment, construction and environmental neglect can damage a precious natural system. It is shrinking day by day while we look the other way as if it’s no concern of ours."

Quoting the Holy Qur’an, he said: "And do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set in order."

The Mirwaiz said this is therefore a matter of serious collective responsibility.

“Authorities, planners, businesses, and citizens all have to recognise that in a fragile Himalayan region development for infrastructure and tourism carries serious consequences. We have to strike a balance between ecological preservation and human intervention in the name of progress."

"The tragedy in Nepal must be seen as a warning close to home. We too live in the Himalayas. If we continue to disturb the natural balance of our mountains, forests, wetlands and waterways, the consequences may one day be irreversible," he said.

The Mirwaiz stressed that protecting our environment today is not merely about conservation, but "about protecting lives, homes and the future of our children".

Gandhinagar, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Raksha Bandhan brought a personal touch to Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar on Friday as girls from the SOS institution’s Kutch-Bhuj centre tied rakhis to Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, marking the festival with an interaction centred on their education, aspirations and future.

The girls met Devvrat at Lok Bhavan and tied rakhis to him as part of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations.

During the interaction, the Governor spoke to the girls about their studies and sought to know about their educational pursuits and future goals.

The girls also presented him with a painting prepared by them. The Governor was briefed on the activities undertaken by the SOS institution for the education, care and overall development of children.

The organisation provides support and guidance to children in need to help them pursue education in schools and colleges.

According to the information shared during the programme, the SOS institution currently has around 32 centres operating across 21 states in the country.

The Kutch-Bhuj centre is among its programmes supporting children through education, care and other developmental activities.

Appreciating the work being carried out by the organisation, Devvrat said: “The work of taking children forward towards education, values, self-confidence and self-reliance is extremely important for shaping the future of society.”

The interaction also focused on the importance of supporting children beyond formal education and helping them develop confidence and the ability to become self-reliant.

The Governor enquired about the girls’ academic progress and their ambitions, while the children shared their experiences.

The SOS Children’s Village in Bhuj was established in 2001 following the devastating earthquake that left many children without parental care.

The organisation currently provides care and education to children at the centre, while also running programmes aimed at education, youth development, vocational training and family strengthening.

At the Raksha Bandhan gathering, the Governor extended his greetings to all the girls present and wished them a bright future.

The programme concluded with the girls’ interaction with the Governor and the presentation of their handmade paintings.

Srinagar, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) With the arrival of the ‘Chhari Mubarak’ (Lord Shiva’s Holy Mace) at the Shri Amarnath ji shrine on Friday and the final 'puja' held inside the cave shrine, SANJY-2026 concluded officially, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival.

Officials of the Shri Amarnath ji Shrine Board (SASB), headed by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, that manages the affairs of the annual pilgrimage, said the 57-day annual Amarnath Yatra concluded coinciding with Raksha Bandhan, following the final traditional puja and arrival of the holy mace, Chhari Mubarak, at the sacred cave shrine.

Mahant Deependra Giri, the custodian of the holy mace, led morning prayers and Vedic chanting inside the 3880 metre-high cave shrine.

L-G Sinha performed the 'Samapan Puja' to mark the formal end of the yatra, thanking security forces, local residents, and volunteers for the services.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 (SANJY-26) ended peacefully without any terror-related incident. Security was unprecedented this time, and even helicopter services were not allowed.

As per the SASB estimate, over 4.80 lakh devotees performed the spiritual pilgrimage from the north Kashmir traditional Pahalgam base camp route and the shorter Baltal base camp route this year.

Due to high altitude sickness and cardiac failure, 42 pilgrims died of natural causes during this year’s Yatra.

The ultimate culmination of the pilgrimage timeline includes the return journey and ritual river immersion (Visarjan) in the Lidder River in Pahalgam on August 30.

Earlier, authorities stopped the movement of Yatris from both base camp routes after tracks were damaged by heavy rain, cloudbursts, and landslides from August 9. Subsequently, maintenance work of the track was carried out.

The cave shrine situated in the Kashmir Himalayas in south Kashmir Anantnag district houses an ice stalagmite structure that waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon.

Devotees believe the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

Gandhinagar, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Friday extended greetings to citizens on Raksha Bandhan, highlighting the festival’s emphasis on the bond between brothers and sisters, while state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma called for a broader recognition of women’s dignity, safety and empowerment.

CM Patel, in a message posted on social media platform X, described Raksha Bandhan as a festival of the “sacred affection and unbreakable trust” between siblings.

He said the festival is an important symbol of family values, cultural traditions and respect for women’s empowerment. “Heartiest greetings to everyone on the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan,” CM Patel said.

He expressed the hope that the festival would bring happiness, peace, prosperity and harmony to families.

Deputy CM Sanghavi also extended his greetings, posting a brief message on X, saying: “A promise that goes beyond words. Happy Rakshabandhan!”

Vishwakarma, in his message issued on the eve of the festival, described Raksha Bandhan as a symbol of the love, affection and mutual trust shared by brothers and sisters.

"Indians living across the world celebrate the festival with joy and enthusiasm. The tying of a rakhi by a sister on her brother’s wrist represented her wishes for his happiness, health and safety, while the thread also symbolised the enduring affection and mutual responsibility between siblings," he emphasised.

Vishwakarma said the responsibility associated with Raksha Bandhan is mutual, with brothers expected to stand by their sisters and safeguard their dignity, security, happiness and self-respect at every stage of life.

He described the festival as an occasion for siblings to reaffirm their commitment to supporting each other during difficult times and sharing in each other’s happiness.

The state BJP chief also linked the festival’s message to the wider issue of women’s empowerment, saying Indian culture accorded women a position of honour and dignity.

"The BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had placed women’s empowerment at the centre of the country’s development through initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s safety, dignity, economic self-reliance and participation in decision-making," he emphasised.

He added that Gujarat, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, is continuing to move in the same direction.

Bhopal, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) As Madhya Pradesh joins the country in celebrating Raksha Bandhan, Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav have highlighted the festival’s traditional message of sibling affection and trust, while linking it to the values of family harmony, social cohesion and women’s empowerment.

In his message on the occasion, Governor Patel said Raksha Bandhan reflects the strength of a relationship that remains rooted in affection, belonging and mutual trust through different stages of life.

"Raksha Bandhan celebrates the deep bond between siblings - a connection rooted in affection, a sense of belonging and trust that endures from the sweet memories of childhood through every stage of life. My sincere wish is that this festival brings happiness, prosperity and well-being into all your lives,” Governor Patel said in a statement.

The Governor described the festival as an expression of India’s rich cultural traditions and called upon people to preserve the values associated with it. He also urged citizens to make active efforts towards respecting, supporting and empowering women.

The festival, traditionally marked by sisters tying rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, has a strong emotional and cultural significance in Indian society. Beyond the ritual, it represents a relationship built on care, protection, affection and responsibility.

CM Yadav, in his Raksha Bandhan message, placed particular emphasis on the dignity and self-reliance of women, pointing to the state government’s Ladli Behna Yojana as an important instrument of financial support.

“Respecting sisters and upholding their dignity and self-reliance is our top priority. We remain steadfast in our resolve to bring happiness and self-confidence into the lives of sisters through the Ladli Behna Yojana,” the Chief Minister said.

CM Yadav said more than Rs 65,000 crore had so far been transferred to the bank accounts of women beneficiaries under the 'Ladli Behna' scheme.

He said the assistance should be viewed beyond its immediate financial value, as it contributes towards strengthening women’s confidence and economic independence.

The Chief Minister’s message seeks to connect the emotional significance of Raksha Bandhan with the broader objective of creating greater opportunities and dignity for women.

The celebrations carry both a cultural and social message, with the traditional thread of rakhi symbolising not merely a personal bond between siblings but also a commitment to care, respect and shared responsibility.

New York, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has backed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s criticism of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying his remarks contain “some truth” and reflect concerns about the treatment of religious minorities in India.

Pitroda, however, acknowledged that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s gathering in New York was a private event and said every organisation was entitled to hold one.

“I know Mayor of New York has spoken about his views, but it's a private event. And everybody is entitled, everybody's entitled to have their private event. No issue,” Pitroda told IANS in an exclusive interview.

Asked specifically whether he agreed with Mamdani’s views about the RSS, Pitroda said the Mayor had expressed a personal position. He then outlined his own vision of India as a secular and inclusive country.

“I think these are his personal views. I do agree with the fact that I believe in secular India. I believe in India where there is no difference in religion, caste, language, state,” he said.

“I believe in India that our founding fathers believed in. I believe in equal right. I believe in truth. I believe in trust. I believe in love and not hate. And I believe in equity.”

Pitroda said the India in which he grew up belonged to every community. He recalled his childhood in a village where families from different religious and social backgrounds lived together peacefully.

“You know, I was born in 1942 during British Raj, and in a small little tribal village, I had a Muslim household in front of us, Jain on the left-hand side, Sikh on the right-hand side, and in the back was tribal Oria. We all lived in peace, harmony, no conflict at all,” he said.

Pitroda contrasted those memories with his assessment of present conditions in India.

“Today, conflict has increased substantially. Hate has increased, fear has increased,” he said. “So I think what Mamdani said has some truth in it that India we grew up with was the India for everybody.”

He alleged that Muslims and Christians had experienced growing anxiety and questioned the effect of RSS influence on educational and other public institutions.

“You ask average Muslim or Christian how they feel in the last 15 years, what has happened to their churches, their communities, and they will tell you,” Pitroda said.

He also questioned whether the public statements of the RSS matched its conduct.

“Their words mean one thing and their actions mean something else,” he alleged. “So I think it'd be good for people to know about RSS, but I won't pay too much attention to their words. I'll pay more attention to their actions. To me, actions speak louder.”

Pitroda said he had never met Bhagwat, although he knew some RSS members personally and remained friends with people whose political and ideological views differed from his own.

“I respect them. I respect diversity. But when it becomes violent, I have a problem. When it becomes hateful, I have a problem,” he said. “If you keep the respect and dignity in discourse, I'm okay.”

Looking ahead, Pitroda said the RSS and other Indian organisations should return to what he described as the country’s founding principles.

“I would say any organisation in India, RSS, non - RSS, should really go back to core idea of India that our founding fathers had,” he said. “What was the core idea of India? That India belongs to everybody. India belongs to Hindu, Muslim, Christians, Jews, Dalits.”

The RSS was founded in Nagpur in 1925 and marked its centenary in 2025. It describes itself as a cultural and social organisation committed to national service and character-building.

New Delhi, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and wished that the bond of love, affection and mutual trust remains forever unbreakable.

PM Modi took to social media 'X' and said, "Heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. May this sacred festival bring happiness, prosperity, and success into all your lives. May the bond of love, affection, and mutual trust remain forever unbreakable—that is my heartfelt wish."

BJP National President Nitin Nabin also extended his greetings on the occasion and said the festival strengthens cultural values and familial bonds.

“Heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying the affection, trust, and vow of protection between siblings, further strengthens our cultural values and familial bonds. May this sacred occasion bring love, joy, and prosperity into everyone's lives—that is our heartfelt wish,” Nabin said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his greetings, describing Raksha Bandhan as a festival that reflects India’s rich cultural heritage and values.

"Heartfelt greetings on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying the unbreakable affection, mutual trust, and deep bond between brother and sister, beautifully reflects our rich cultural heritage and values. It also inspires us to remain committed to the honor, safety, and dignity of women. On this auspicious occasion, I wish that our society becomes even more vigilant and sensitive towards the respect, self-respect, and empowerment of women," he said.

Raksha Bandhan symbolises the deep bond of love, affection and protection between brothers and sisters. On the occasion, sisters tie colourful rakhis on their brothers’ wrists and pray for their good health, happiness and prosperity. Brothers, in turn, express their affection by offering gifts and pledging to stand by their sisters through all of life’s ups and downs.

The festival is observed annually on Purnima, the full moon day, of the Hindu month of Shravana. This year, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on Friday.

As part of the traditional celebrations, sisters apply tilak on their brothers’ foreheads before tying the rakhi, while families exchange sweets and gifts.

Raksha Bandhan is primarily celebrated in India and Nepal and is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu lunisolar month of Shravana, which generally falls in August.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday greeted Indians living in India and abroad on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.

In a message, President Murmu said, "The festival of Raksha Bandhan has been an integral part of our culture and tradition since ancient times. The rakhi thread, tied around the wrist with faith, has been regarded as a sacred bond of protection, known as 'Raksha Bandhan'."

The President added, "In many shlokas and mantras, we find the words 'Rakshe, Ma Chala, Ma Chala’. These words express the imploration, 'May this bond of protection continue forever'."

Raksha Bandhan has become popular as a social festival in which sisters tie a Rakhi on the wrists of brothers and their siblings. This symbolises the feelings of warmth, respect and mutual responsibility not only between brothers and sisters but also among siblings, families, friends and the society.

This festival reminds us that every relationship rests on the pillars of trust, sensitivity and mutual cooperation.

"On this auspicious occasion, let us pledge to strengthen the bonds among our families and our communities. Let us march forward with this spirit towards a 'Viksit Bharat'," President Murmu said.

In a separate development during the day, President Murmu interacted with the Officer Trainees of Indian Foreign Service (2025 Batch) and two diplomats from Bhutan, who are currently undergoing induction training programme in Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.

Speaking on the occasion, the President congratulated the Officer Trainees of the Indian Foreign Service and said that they will have the privilege and responsibility of representing India abroad, advancing the nation's interests, and strengthening India's relations with countries across the world.

President Murmu said that India's economic rise is creating new possibilities for our engagement with the world.

She advised diplomats to remain alert to emerging opportunities in areas such as investment, technology, manufacturing, renewable energy and innovation, and build partnerships that advance India's national interests.

She said that diplomacy must contribute directly to India's prosperity.

The President said that India's engagement with the world should always align closely with the aspirations of our people: 'Rashtrahit Sarvopari'. This should remain an enduring principle of Indian Foreign Service officers' professional lives.

She highlighted the expanding role of diplomacy as the country progresses towards the goal of becoming 'Viksit Bharat by 2047'.

The President said that diplomats should not limit engagement to government offices and official meetings.

"They (Diplomats) should also reach out to universities, businesses, researchers, innovators, cultural institutions, civil society and local communities," she said.

President Murmu advised them to engage meaningfully with the Indian diaspora, especially to encourage young members of the diaspora to remain connected with India and identify opportunities for them to contribute to our development journey.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) A unique Raksha Bandhan celebration organised by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) in New Delhi on Thursday, blended tradition with a strong message of social harmony and national unity.

Held at the Ghalib Auditorium, the programme saw Muslim sisters tie 'Raksha Sutra' (sacred thread) on the wrist of Indresh Kumar; Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) National Executive member, followed by a Tiranga Yatra in which women participants carried the National Flag.

The event was attended by national and Delhi-level MRM coordinators, workers and supporters from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and Jain communities.

Among those present were Mohammad Afzal, Girish Juyal, Shalini Ali, Hafiz Sabrin, Imran Chaudhary, Anil Garg, Faiz Khan, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Shakir Ali.

Addressing the gathering, RSS leader Indresh Kumar stressed peace, brotherhood and unity in diversity.

He urged people to rise above differences of religion, language and culture and treat them as India's collective strength.

He described Raksha Bandhan as an opportunity to build trust and promote greater social harmony.

Indresh Kumar's message carried special relevance for Gen Alpha and Gen Z, who are growing up in a digital world where social media can both connect and polarise.

He underlined that technology should foster dialogue and human connection rather than distance.

Shalini Ali highlighted women's empowerment, stressing education, confidence and economic independence as key to enabling women to contribute more actively to society and nation-building.

The subsequent Tiranga Yatra reinforced the national dimension of the programme.

Women carrying the Tricolour conveyed that nation-building is a shared responsibility across communities.

The National Flag was presented as a symbol of common identity that belongs to every Indian, regardless of religion, caste or region.

The programme linked the symbolism of the Rakhi -- trust, affection and brotherhood -- with the Tricolour's message of unity and collective responsibility.

It emphasised that India's diversity is a source of strength and that festivals like Raksha Bandhan can serve as bridges across communities.

The event concluded with a collective resolve to promote peace, social harmony, women's empowerment and national unity.

The message was clear: different identities, one India; together, a stronger India.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha President Archana Gupta led colleagues in tying Rakhis to Delhi BJP President and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra.

The women of the Mahila Morcha tied a Rakhi to Malhotra and wished him a healthy, long life.

Gupta said that in just 20 months, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which came to power in Delhi after 27 years, has not only improved the upkeep of Delhi but has also brought meaningful changes in the lives of women by implementing free LPG cylinders on the occasion of Teej, the Vidya Vahini Yojana, and now the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.

On the occasion, Malhotra expressed gratitude to all the women of the Mahila Morcha and said that Raksha Bandhan is a festival of Indian culture that reflects not only the love between brothers and sisters but also the commitment to responsibility, respect, and protection for one another.

He said that for the BJP, respecting and empowering women is not merely a political issue but a social responsibility.

Malhotra said the BJP government in Delhi has taken an important step towards women's economic empowerment by implementing the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.

Under this scheme, eligible women receive financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 per month, he said, adding that the scheme is an important initiative to make women in Delhi financially stronger and boost their confidence.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has prioritised the dignity, safety, and self-reliance of women.

Taking this vision forward, the BJP government in Delhi is also continuously taking important decisions in the interest of women. The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is an example of the BJP government's commitment to providing women with real financial assistance through welfare schemes rather than merely making electoral promises.

Malhotra said the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance will help millions of eligible women in Delhi meet their families' essential needs. This financial support will help women reduce their dependence on others for day-to-day needs and strengthen their ability to make financial decisions.

Mumbai, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday issued clear instructions during a high-level law and order review meeting for Ganeshotsav 2026, urging public Ganeshotsav mandals across the state to strictly comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations to ensure devotees receive pure, unadulterated prasad.

Highlighting that Ganeshotsav is Maharashtra’s State Festival, CM Fadnavis emphasised that mandals, local authorities and citizens share a collective responsibility to preserve the discipline, sanctity and cultural legacy originally envisioned by Lokmanya Tilak.

He instructed that mandals must undergo necessary guidance and training to meet minimum hygiene and quality standards set by the FDA. Administrators must expedite pending permissions, while traditional, long-standing mandals should receive fast-track processing for routine approvals.

Fadnavis directed civic authorities across all municipal corporations to keep procession and immersion routes pothole-free and properly lit at night. Under Section 143 of the BMC Act, eligible registered trust offices can apply for property tax exemptions with proper documentation. Police have been instructed to take strict action against violations of firecracker and loudspeaker decibel limits.

In line with High Court directives, officials will enforce eco-friendly practices to prevent water pollution from Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde urged seamless coordination among police, municipal corporations and mandals to ensure smooth arrivals and immersions. He said over 1,850 kilometres of roads in Mumbai have been concretised, and local administration must resolve remaining defects immediately.

Shinde said administrative processes are underway to grant mandals five-year single-window permissions. He urged organisers and volunteers to stay vigilant against rumours on social media and promptly report suspicious activity to the police.

He also directed mandals to inspect structural joints, welding, and bolts on large idols to prevent accidents during transport, and to maintain a safe distance between heavy structures and crowds.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has appealed to all Ganeshotsav mandals to take necessary electrical safety precautions and rely solely on official temporary electricity connections during the festival.

MSEDCL urged organisers to remain vigilant to prevent untoward incidents. Mandals must consider the height of overhead power lines along roads and narrow lanes when determining the height of Ganesh idols and the design of procession floats. Mandals must strictly follow safety regulations while setting up wiring and decorative lighting in pandals, with all electrical work done exclusively by certified contractors.

To facilitate the process, MSEDCL has streamlined the application system for Ganesh mandals, allowing organisers to apply online via the official website or mobile app for quick temporary power connections. It emphasised that no mandal should use unauthorised electricity connections and advised organisers to maintain a safe distance from power lines and poles while erecting pandals.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Thursday that the thread of Rakhi is not just a symbol of protection, but a binding promise between our democratic institutions and the future generation to build a strong, aware, and responsible India.

As students tied Rakhis on the wrist of the Speaker, he welcomed their enthusiasm and wished all the students the best of luck for their future endeavours, encouraging them to excel in academics and lead with high moral values.

During their visit, the students embarked on an immersive journey through India's Parliamentary heritage, starting with the historical significance of the iconic Assembly building, an official statement said.

Constructed in 1912, the structure previously housed the historic Central Legislative Assembly and carries the indelible legacy of figures like Vitthalbhai Patel.

Students also gained insights into the Delhi Assembly's ongoing role in democratic governance since its re-establishment in 1993, it said.

To deepen their understanding, the programme featured a comprehensive orientation on legislative procedures, offering a practical briefing on how laws are crafted, debated, and passed, the statement said.

This educational session was complemented by a captivating short film detailing the institution's evolution, featuring a voice-over by Padma Bhushan awardee Anupam Kher, it added.

The students were also presented with 'Ek Shatabdi Yatra', a commemorative coffee table publication documenting a century of Legislative history, capped off by a guided walkthrough of the Assembly House chamber to witness the operational heart of local governance, the statement said.

Highlighting the importance of sustained participation, Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasised that the vitality of a democratic society depends on an informed, aware, and active youth.

By directly experiencing democratic institutions in action, young citizens can channel their natural curiosity and drive into meaningful civic engagement, accountability, and public service, he said.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across multiple institutions, including Mount Abu Public School, Mahavir Senior Model School, Lovely Public School, Evergreen Public School, Mayur Public School, Jain Bharti Public School, Remal Public School, Vidhya Bharti School, Hansraj Model School, DAV School, ASN Senior Secondary School, Greenfields School, Abhinav Public School, Bal Bhavan Public School, and Saraswati Public School.
