New Delhi, June 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday that the Cabinet has approved important proposals related to the Ad-Hoc Monthly Relief (AMR) scheme for the 1,832 Jammu & Kashmir migrant families in the city.

The Chief Minister said the scheme will apply only to those registered Jammu & Kashmir migrant families who have received relief up to March 31, 2024.

Reiterating the BJP government’s commitment to the welfare, rehabilitation, and social security of migrant families, Chief Minister Gupta said that the government has decided to remove the income-related eligibility condition for providing relief to Jammu and Kashmir migrant families.

Now, the eligibility for relief will not be affected by a family’s income or ownership of any immovable property, she said.

Chief Minister Gupta said that the government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 30 crore for the smooth implementation of the scheme during 2026-27.

The government will ensure that no eligible Jammu & Kashmir migrant family faces any difficulty in receiving relief.

Eligible migrant families registered with the Delhi government will receive relief in accordance with the existing rules. Relief benefits will be available for a maximum of four members in a family, she said.

According to the Chief Minister, the One-Time Amnesty Scheme is being introduced to ensure that beneficiary records are completely accurate and properly maintained.

Under the scheme, migrant families will have another opportunity to update the correct information for their existing family members and their Aadhaar details, she said.

During this process, if any beneficiary had earlier received excess relief due to an inadvertent error or a technical issue, the amount will not be recovered from them.

The main objective of this initiative is to correct errors in government records so that, in the future, relief provided by the government reaches only genuine and eligible families without any interruption, she said.

Riyadh, June 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) India's Consul General in Jeddah, Fahad Suri, has extended his heartfelt 'Haj Mubarak' greetings to all Indian Haj pilgrims on the successful completion of the main Haj rituals.

On the occasion of the commencement of the departure phase, he also conveyed his best wishes for the safe, smooth, and auspicious return home of all pilgrims, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah wrote on Sunday on social media platform X.

Fahad Suri, along with Consul Haj Sadaf Choudhary, participated in the Khitamahu Misk ceremony organised by the Saudi Haj Ministry, marking the successful conclusion of Haj-2026 season and celebrating excellence in pilgrim services.

Each year, the Saudi Haj Ministry gives away performance awards (Labbaytum Awards) to various Haj Missions at the Khitamahu Misk Ceremony.

In a historic first, India was honoured with two Labbaytum Awards under the "Best Haj Coordination and Communication" category, recognising the outstanding efforts made towards ensuring seamless facilitation, coordination, and welfare of Indian Haj pilgrims.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah, expressed "Heartfelt gratitude to the Saudi authorities, local service providers, and all partner agencies for their invaluable cooperation and support in making the Haj pilgrimage comfortable, safe, and spiritually fulfilling for 1.75 lakh Indian pilgrims".

"This recognition reflects the collective dedication, teamwork, and commitment of everyone involved in the Haj operations. Sincere gratitude for the constant guidance and support of Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the Ministry of External Affairs," the Embassy of India in Riyadh said, while celebrating the award.

The Embassy also congratulated all members of the Indian Haj Mission who contributed to the achievement.

India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Suhel Khan visited Makkah in April and oversaw the arrangements for Indian Haj pilgrims, where he received the first batch of Indian pilgrims arriving in Makkah from Madinah by train.

Among the key initiatives for Haj 2026 are enhanced digital services through the Haj Suvidha App and the introduction of Haj Suvidha smart wristbands to help locate and assist pilgrims.

For the first time, a short-duration Haj option of around 20 days has been introduced, offering greater flexibility.

Islamabad, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Catholic bishops, comprising three archbishops, four bishops, and a cardinal, from Pakistan visited the Vatican to submit their reports in different departments and meet Pope Leo XIV. Catholic Bishops' Conference of Pakistan President Bishop Samson Shukardin of Hyderabad, highlighted the challenges faced by Christians in Pakistan, a report has said.

He spoke about the misuse of blasphemy laws, systematic discrimination, and the increasing number of forced conversions and marriages that target young Christian girls in Pakistan, according to a report in International Christian Concern.

Samson Shukardin stressed that Christians in Pakistan were not receiving equal rights.

He said that many Christians in Pakistan face constant social and systemic discrimination in their daily lives.

During the meeting, the bishops invited Pope Leo XIV to visit Pakistan. The Vatican has not released an official travel announcement. However, Pope Leo expressed his interest in the request, assuring the delegation of his desire to visit Pakistan in the future, according to a report in International Christian Concern.

Last week, minority rights organisations requested Pakistan's federal government to introduce constitutional reforms with a goal to strengthen protection for religious minorities, women and children as part of the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment Bill, a report has said.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, leaders of the Minorities Alliance Pakistan (MAP) and allied groups presented a reform package that calls for introducing changes to constitutional provisions linked to political representation, religious freedom, and child protection, a report in Eurasia Review mentioned.

During the event, MAP chairman Akmal Bhatti said Pakistan could not function as a pluralistic democracy as constitutional provisions restricted non-Muslims from taking the offices of President and Prime Minister and minority communities did not have direct democratic representation.

Bhatti, according to the report, said that proposed reforms were aimed to ensure equality before the law and equal opportunities for everyone in Pakistan.

He added that constitutional and legal structures should protect children from forced religious conversion and child marriage.

The proposals presented by the MAP call for banning the religious conversion of people aged below 18 years until free and informed consent is recorded before a judicial magistrate.

Bhatti demanded amendments to Articles 51 and 106 to introduce direct elections for seats reserved for non-Muslims and women in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

Akmal Bhatti urged Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms to hold talks with minority communities, legal experts, and civil society organisations before preparing the final amendment package.

Islamabad, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) A genocide watchdog has issued an alert for genocide monitoring in Pakistan amid the growing rate of human rights violations, a report said.

The organisation Genocide Watch called for genocide monitoring in Pakistan in a report it issued earlier this month, which said that Pakistan is now at stage 3 of genocide (discrimination).

"Because discrimination against women and minorities is deeply embedded in society, and violence against them is both widespread and tolerated, Genocide Watch considers Pakistan to be at Stage 3: Discrimination and Stage 5: Organisation. Deepening divisions along religious, gender, and political lines, reinforced by restrictive laws, censorship, and weak protections, place the country at Stage 6: Polarisation. The continued targeting of vulnerable groups through violence, persecution, and displacement further reflects elements of Stage 9: Persecution," the report noted.

"These stages refer to the developments or circumstances that cause, incite, or bring about the deliberate destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group," said Turkish journalist Uzay Bulut, writing for American media outlet PJ Media.

The targets of this discrimination are religious minorities (Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Shia, Ahmadiyya), political opposition, women, and gays.

Women face the most severe consequences as they face acid attacks, forced and child marriages, rape, trafficking, forced conversion and domestic abuse.

With the Lahore High Court ruling that marriages after puberty are valid under Islamic law in 2025, girls marriage remains widespread in Pakistan, with millions married before the age of 18.

Pakistan ranked last in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index.

According to the Genocide Watch report, journalists, activists, and academics face censorship, violence, threats, arrests, and murder, which are perpetrated by the Pakistani government and contribute to growing self-censorship and restricted public discourse.

"Non-Muslims in Pakistan survive in a tyrannical environment. Christians comprise just 1.8 per cent of the population and are particularly marginalised," said Bulut.

"As a minority in Pakistan, Christians are exposed to many challenges, which range from everyday discrimination to threats of deadly violence," he added.

"Genocide never just happens," says Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT).

"There is always a set of circumstances which occur or which are created to build the climate in which genocide can take place."

The Genocide Watch recommended that the European Union (EU) use GSP+ review procedures to pressure Pakistan on limitedly enacted reforms in religious freedom, freedom of expression, and women's rights.

It also recommended that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights consider Pakistan as "a country of special concern" because of its concerning record of human rights abuses against ethnic and religious minorities.

Dhaka, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Christians in Bangladesh have been facing sectarian attacks, especially in regions where Jamaat-e-Islami has strong support. Open Doors UK and Ireland, which supports persecuted Christians, has reported that violence against minorities in Bangladesh which had already increased, has intensified following the election, a report said.

In February, Bangladesh held its first elections after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had a zero-tolerance approach to Islamism. Since her ouster, Christians and Hindus have reported an increase in attacks, especially against those who have converted from Islam, according to a report in Christian Today.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won the elections, however, the Jamaat-e-Islami still managed to claim just under a third of the vote.

A Catholic priest was robbed of his passport and the equivalent of around £1,000 and assaulted in Dhaka's St. Eugene de Mazenod.

According to community leaders, violence has increased, especially in areas dominated by Jamaat-e-Islami.

Since the election in February, more than 50 incidents have been reported in Bangladesh.

In March, Hindu and Christian leaders held a protest in Dhaka, calling on the BNP government to guarantee the protection of minorities, according to a report in Christian Today.

Meanwhile, a leading international human rights organisation on Monday strongly condemned the alarming and systematic wave of violence against religious and ethnic minorities, including indigenous communities, in Bangladesh between January and April.

Justice Makers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) cited reports by the Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM), which documented a total of 505 incidents across 62 districts spanning all eight divisions of the country -- exposing a deeply disturbing pattern of persecution, insecurity, discrimination, and impunity targeting vulnerable minority communities.

These included "killings and suspicious deaths, physical assaults, kidnappings, sexual violence, attacks on temples and religious institutions, land grabbing, arson, looting, intimidation, and blasphemy-related persecution".

Expressing grave concern, the JMBF said that the 95 incidents of temple attacks and religious vandalism targeting temples and religious statues were recorded across 43 districts in Bangladesh, which amounted to direct assaults on religious freedom, cultural identity, and the right of minority communities to practise their faith without fear.

It also added that 28 incidents of sexual violence, including rape and gang rape, that were documented across 23 districts, highlighted the gendered nature of violence frequently used to "terrorise" marginalised communities.

The rights body noted that the six blasphemy-related incidents reported in six districts demonstrated the continued misuse of religious sentiments to intimidate and persecute minorities.

"These widespread and coordinated violations reflect a dangerous climate of intolerance, discrimination, and institutional failure that threatens the fundamental principles of human rights, equality, secularism, and the rule of law in Bangladesh. The situation is deteriorating day by day, and unfortunately, the current BNP-led government has failed to take effective measures to prevent violence and ensure protection for religious and ethnic minority communities," said Shahanur Islam, JMBF founder and President.

The rights body called on the government of Bangladesh to immediately establish an independent judicial commission to conduct impartial, transparent, and credible investigations into all reported incidents of violence.

It also appealed to ensure accountability for perpetrators regardless of political affiliation or influence and provide urgent protection, compensation, and rehabilitation for victims and affected communities.

JMBF also urged the government to enact a Minority Protection Act and establish an independent Minority Commission to safeguard the rights, dignity, and equal protection of all religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh.

Rudraprayag, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Kedarnath Yatra resumed on Sunday after a brief suspension due to heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand.

Movement of pilgrims restarted as the weather cleared up and operations were restored on the Kedarnath trekking route after rainfall ceased. However, if the weather deteriorates later in the day, the pilgrims will again be asked to take shelter at the nearest safe locations till the conditions improve.

The Kedarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended earlier in the day, after the weather department issued an orange alert amid extreme rainfall.

Speaking to reporters, Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) Vishal Mishra had said the region experienced overnight rainfall. "We have been informed by the weather department that an orange alert will be in place today, and a yellow alert has been announced for tomorrow due to the prevailing weather conditions."

"We have requested people who are currently enroute to the pilgrimage sites to take shelter at the nearest holding areas and safe locations. Our teams are monitoring the situation from the control room as well as on the field," he said.

"All our efforts are to ensure that no pilgrim faces any adverse situation," he said.

The officials deployed in Sonprayag, Gaurikund, and other landslide-prone sectors were instructed not to allow any pilgrim to proceed further until weather conditions improve. However, as soon as the weather conditions improved, the pilgrims who had halted at safe locations were sent forward.

Meanwhile, the helicopter services have been temporarily stalled due to heavy rainfall and fog.

Due to the heavy rainfall in the state for the past two days, Mishra noted that holding areas have been made in the plain areas like Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar, where the devotees will be provided all basic amenities.

Mishra had also noted that feedback from the pilgrims has been taken for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

"Some issues have come to light. We are trying our best to facilitate the pilgrims so that they can complete the 'darshan' as quickly as possible," he had said.

He emphasised that the administration is also focusing on crowd management on the temple premises. "We are ensuring that the token system is followed at the temple," he said.

"We have got to know that some anti-social elements are creating trouble, including robbing pilgrims. Police have been informed, and they are taking action," he added.

He added that inspections are being conducted, and many of the 'ponywalas' have also been backlisted who are not following the norms.

"We are making arrangements for pilgrims to sit and also creating holding areas for those who are coming via helicopters," the DM said.

New Delhi, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Philosopher and author Acharya Prashant addressed a packed audience at the University of Cambridge on Friday in a fireside chat at the historic Cambridge Union, arguing that humanity's gravest crises, climate change foremost among them, cannot be resolved by technology or policy alone because their root lies not in the external world but in the unexamined inner life of human beings. The audience response was overwhelming; seats were fully booked even before the day arrived.

The Cambridge Union, which has hosted figures including Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Stephen Hawking, served as the venue for what organisers described as the summit's marquee session. Among an exceptional roster of distinguished speakers drawn from politics, diplomacy, and industry, Acharya Prashant was the sole philosopher on the programme and was accorded the longest speaking slot of the day, a distinction that underscored the organisers' intent to place questions of inner life at the centre of a gathering otherwise defined by external power.

The event was hosted by the Cambridge India Business Dialogue and conducted by Professor Jaideep Prabhu, Director of the Centre for India and Global Business at Cambridge Judge Business School, one of the world's leading institutions for business and global affairs research, who led the fireside conversation and posed questions to Acharya Prashant throughout. The theme of the conversation was 'Indian Contemplative Traditions as Applied to Climate Change, Inequality, and Global Responsibility'. The gathering included Kanishka Narayan, Minister for AI and Online Safety and Member of Parliament for Vale of Glamorgan; Lord Karan Bilimoria; India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Periasamy Kumaran; and Nyrika Holkar of the Godrej Enterprises Group. Notably, Acharya Prashant was the only speaker at the summit whose session was moderated by a University of Cambridge professor.

The IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, who founded the PrashantAdvait Foundation, told the gathering that humanity had never been more prosperous or more powerful, and had also never been more unable to stop. "Outwardly, we are more advanced than at any point in history," he said. "Inwardly, we are still cavemen."

The argument he developed was precise. Human desire, he said, is not a technical problem and cannot be resolved by technical means. Formal education, across schools, universities, and institutions, trains people in skills and external knowledge but does not address the education of the self. The questions that most determine how knowledge will be used are almost never asked: what is desire, where do our wants come from, why do we want what we want, and does the self exist as we imagine it? He was unambiguous that he deeply respects science and that technology is necessary and valuable. The problem, he said, is not science itself but the unexamined self that directs it. Every tool humanity has built has been turned toward feeding a psychological emptiness that remains unexamined and therefore insatiable. Even if the entire planet were to be exploited in this effort, he said, the inner hunger would remain.

On climate specifically, he argued that the crisis is being persistently misread. Efficiency, he observed, has never historically reduced consumption. Steam engines improved; electricity use multiplied many times over. Electric vehicles are now positioned as the answer, yet they require cobalt and lithium to be mined, forests to be cleared, and ecosystems to be disturbed. Leaders are shaped not only by voters but by consumers, and the consumer is the same self that no policy has yet touched. As long as that self remains unchanged, workarounds will be found for every measure that inconveniences the habit of wanting more.

When Professor Prabhu raised the question of whether there was time left for the kind of transformation being described, Acharya Prashant was unequivocal. Time, he said, is needed only when there is a distance to cover or an additional task to accomplish. The climate crisis does not require humanity to do something additional. It requires humanity to cease what it is already doing. "Acceleration takes time", he said. "How much time does it take to stop where you are?" Successive global climate conferences have failed, he argued, for one shared reason: each has assumed the solution demands more action, when the crisis is itself the product of too much.

Responding to a question on bridging Eastern and Western, masculine and feminine, and economic worldviews, he turned the premise around. Who exactly crosses the bridge, he asked, and does the crossing change anything? A person can walk to the other side and remain inwardly identical. Inner honesty, he said, is the only thing that actually matters in any such crossing. He drew on the Upanishadic distinction between 'Vidya' and 'Avidya', outward knowledge and inward wisdom, calling it the oldest available diagnosis of the imbalance modern civilisation has only deepened. Humanity has progressed immensely in external knowledge, he said, but inward understanding remains almost entirely absent.

Asked by Professor Prabhu why he had walked away from a corporate path after IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad, he described the decision as a gradual recognition rather than a sudden break. The problems he was positioned to address in technology and management were downstream of something far more fundamental that society was barely registering. Many who competed alongside him, people of exceptional talent and ability, went on to deploy that talent in ways that accelerated the very crises now demanding urgent solutions. The upstream problem, he said, is one of human interiority.

That recognition shapes the work he now runs. Through the PrashantAdvait Foundation, Acharya Prashant conducts an online night school every day of the month, in which students examine their lives through the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist teachings, the writings of Lao Tzu, and existential literature and plays. Students take examinations; the programme reaches across more than 100 countries. The purpose, he said, is not scholarship. "We are students of the self," he told the gathering. "These works are not the destination. They bring us back to ourselves."

Speaking to the media after the session, Acharya Prashant sharpened the message he had carried into the Cambridge Union. In the last two hundred years, he said, humanity has successfully tried science, technology, economic growth, and exploration, and has made enormous advances in all of them. Yet it continues to move toward war, ecological crisis, and inner dissatisfaction. The one thing it has not seriously attempted is “mass education of the self”. The questions that remain unasked at scale -- who am I, what do I truly want, will accumulation ever satisfy me -- are precisely the questions whose answers would change everything. The solution, he said, lies in inner honesty, love, and right intent. Outer progress without inner understanding is not progress; it is acceleration toward a cliff.

On what Indian contemplative traditions offer to economics and business specifically, he was direct. The problem, he said, is not the system. Science, economics, business, and medicine all ultimately aim at human welfare. But human welfare cannot be achieved without understanding the human being at the centre of every system. If the chooser is confused, the system becomes destructive. If the inventor lacksƒp wisdom, the invention causes harm.

Technology and policy are only as good as the inner clarity of the person deploying them. The root of global problems, he said, is inward. Better systems require wiser human beings.

On whether technology can solve climate change and the intensifying heat crisis, his answer was unambiguous. Climate change, he said, is not only a carbon problem but a human psychology problem. The fire producing the emissions is human ego, greed, and unexamined desire. Without inner change, technology will not solve the crisis. It will accelerate it.

Acharya Prashant is a philosopher and author of multiple bestselling books who is currently on a UK tour. After Cambridge, he will be speaking at Oxford, the London School of Economics, King's College London, and other prominent institutions. Drawing on the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, Madhyamika Buddhism, and global wisdom literature, his work reaches over 100 million online followers across more than 100 countries.

Ayodhya, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A row erupted after American-based historian Audrey Truschke challenged a social media post by the Ministry of Culture, which described a Harappan Pashupati seal as "Shiva-Pashupati". Truschke claimed that the figure is that of an Eurasian deity "lord of animals".

Criticising the historian's claim, Hindu seers in Ayodhya, on Saturday, alleged that it is an attempt to tarnish India's history and culture and is "completely unacceptable".

Speaking to IANS, Mahant Sitaram Das Maharaj of Ayodhya's Saket Bhavan temple condemned the statement made by the US-based historian. He said: "If international agencies will try to harm the history of India, it will not be tolerated at any cost."

Asserting that the Harrapan seal undoubtedly represents "Shiva-Pashupati", Mahant Sitaram Das added that the seal is considered as a symbol of India's Sanatan tradition.

Referring to Audrey Truschke, the Hindu seer said: "She does not have any knowledge about the history of India's Sanatan tradition."

"Foreigners don't have any knowledge about India's culture, civilisation and lifestyle of people here. A conspiracy is being hatched to tarnish India's Sanantan culture," Mahant Sitaram Das alleged.

However, he was optimistic that the truth regarding the Harrapan-era seal will prevail.

Mahant Deveshacharya Ji Maharaj said: "America is angry with India. The mental balance of the leaders and people of America has been disturbed. It is trying to run a wrong propaganda to demean India's image and to tarnish the culture and traditions here."

"This is absolutely not acceptable; we all oppose it," he added.

He also asserted that no country can run a propaganda to insult another nation.

The Hindu saint urged the America-based historian to apologise and remove the post from her X account.

Arya Sant Varun Das Ji Maharaj echoed: "This is completely misleading and negative. It is the work of foreigners to somehow create confusion."

In a post on X on May 27, The Ministry of Culture had said: "Discovered at Mohenjo-daro in undivided India this steatite seal, about 4,300-year-old, shows a seated figure in yogic posture (widely seen as Shiva-Pashupati) seated in Mulabandhasana, surrounded by animals."

"While ancient sites may lie across modern borders, India remains the living custodian of this heritage. The yogic posture, Shaivite symbolism, and spiritual ethos seen in the Pashupati Seal continue to thrive in India's temples, daily worship of Shiva, yogic traditions, and cultural life even today," the post added.

It also said: "From the Vedic period to contemporary Bharat, this civilisational thread has remained alive and unbroken -- deeply embedded in our philosophy, rituals, and collective consciousness."

Countering India's post, Audrey Truschke mentioned: "This isn't Shiva. It's more likely adapted from proto-Elamite iconography, showing an Eurasian deity 'lord of animals'."

"Indian history is amazing, wonderful, and fantastic -- It's well worth getting it right," she added in a post on X.

Dhaka, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bangladesh is witnessing growing cultural intolerance with attacks targeting shrines, minorities, journalists, and cultural organisations - allegedly carried out by groups linked to the country's radical Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami.

The repeated involvement of Jamaat affiliated workers suggests tacit backing, while administrative inaction — even during attacks witnessed by police or security forces — has intensified public concerns over political pressure and impunity, a report has highlighted.

According to a report in 'The Diplomat', at least two Sufi shrines have been attacked by Islamist mobs in Bangladesh over the last two months. The first incident occurred on April 11, when a spiritual leader was beaten to death by a mob of nearly 300-400 people during an attack on a shrine in Kushtia in western Bangladesh.

Then, on May 14, a mob stormed the centuries-old shrine of Hazrat Shah Ali Baghdadi in Dhaka's Mirpur, vandalising the site and beating people with sticks.

The two attacked were allegedly carried out by Jamaat. Although the party has denied its involvement, evidence points towards Jamaat – the main opposition party in Bangladesh.

“Following the attack on the shrine in Mirpur on May 14, police arrested three men reportedly linked to the Jamaat based on video footage. Local parliamentarian Meer Ahmad Bin Qasem Arman, who was elected in the recent February 12 general elections on a Jamaat ticket, admitted that some of those arrested worked in his election campaign. Similarly, the murder of the Pir in Kushtia was reportedly led by a former district president of Chhatra Shibir, Jamaat’s student wing,” the report detailed.

It added that following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the violent incidents targeting shrines, Sufi institutions, and spiritual centres across Bangladesh have escalated.

Highlighting that Jamaat leaders and workers were linked to several of these attacks, the report further said the surge in "mob justice” had grown increasingly visible in Bangladesh during the eighteen-month tenure of the former Muhammad Yunus-led interim government.

“According to a recent study by the think tank Maqam: Center for Sufi Heritage, at least 97 shrines were attacked over the 17 months when Yunus was at the helm. Three people were killed and 468 others were injured in these attacks," it noted.

Emphasising the wider implications, the report said, “History shows that once mob culture becomes normalised, it rarely remains under anyone’s control. An attack on a shrine today may become an attack on another religious or social group tomorrow. Unless political forces take a firm stand against violence, this cycle will continue.”

Brussels, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) China’s concerns over the next Dalai Lama stem from the reality that he will not emerge in Beijing’s “shadow” and will be identified through spiritual tradition rather than party decree, thus posing a serious challenge to the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) authority, a report has stated.

Beijing has no control in the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama — and that loss of influence unsettles Chinese authorities more than they are willing to acknowledge, Khedroob Thondup, the nephew of the Dalai Lama, wrote in the ‘European Times'.

“For decades, the Chinese Communist Party has tried to bend Tibetan Buddhism to its will. It has sought to control religious institutions, installed pliant clerics, and declared itself the arbiter of reincarnation. Yet the one succession it cannot control—the next Dalai Lama—has become a source of profound unease in Beijing. The Party knows that legitimacy in Tibetan Buddhism is not manufactured in Zhongnanhai but recognised in monasteries, diaspora communities, and the hearts of millions of believers worldwide," Thondup detailed.

“The precedent of the Panchen Lama looms large. In 1995, Beijing detained and disappeared from public view the boy recognised by the Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama and replaced him with its own candidate. Thirty years later, the state-appointed Panchen Lama remains a figure of ceremonial utility but little spiritual authority beyond official Chinese structures. Tibetans reject him, the global Buddhist community ignores him, and the world remembers the child who vanished. This failure haunts Beijing’s plans for the Dalai Lama’s succession," he added.

According to the report, reincarnation in Tibetan Buddhism is a spiritual recognition rooted in centuries of tradition, not a bureaucratic process, with the Dalai Lama having declared that he will not allow the succession process to come under Chinese control.

“That single statement strips Beijing of its leverage. No decree, no regulation, no 'patriotic education' campaign can compel Tibetans to accept a Party-approved Dalai Lama. The institution itself has made clear that legitimacy flows from religious practice, not political fiat,” it noted.

Highlighting that China’s concern extends beyond Tibet, the report said that the Dalai Lama is a "global figure" whose teachings span from Dharamsala to New York, from Tokyo to Sao Paulo. It added that his successor will likely be recognised by Buddhist communities globally, beyond the reach of Chinese control.

“Beijing fears that the next Dalai Lama will become a rallying point for Tibetans in exile and a symbol of resistance inside Tibet. Worse, the international community may treat him as authentic, leaving China’s chosen candidate isolated and irrelevant,” the report stated.

It further highlighted that the CCP’s anxiety is driven by the “strategic costs of failure”, noting that a contested succession would lay bare China's lack of control over Tibetan religion, while weakening its soft power in Buddhist Asia, and drawing criticism from multilateral forums.

Bhopal, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) With a view to improving, enhancing, and sprucing up religious infrastructure and boosting spiritual tourism, the Ujjain administration has announced ₹200 crore ‘Temple Bonds’ as part of its ₹1,100 crore project for the renovation and modernisation of 11 prominent temples in Ujjain and Agar Malwa districts.

For the first time in the state, the administration will raise ₹200 crore through Temple Bonds, a unique financial instrument that allows citizens and institutions to invest directly in temple development. The bonds will offer investors both principal repayment and interest after a fixed tenure.

The remaining funds will come from multiple sources: ₹275 crore from the Urban Challenge Fund and ₹625 crore through bank financing.

According to government officials, detailed project reports (DPRs) are being prepared for each temple, covering conservation, beautification, pilgrim facilities, disaster management, and infrastructure upgrades.

Divisional Commissioner Ashish Singh chaired a high-level meeting, during which he directed officials to complete all formalities for issuing the Temple Bonds by July 15, with the official launch targeted for July 31. Approvals from the state finance department, law department, and SEBI will be sought shortly. Interest rates, minimum investment amounts, and other terms will be finalised soon.

Key temples included in the project are Baba Kalbhairav Temple (the guardian deity of Ujjain), Shri Mangalnath Temple (believed to be the birthplace of planet Mars), Shri Sandipani Ashram (where Lord Krishna received his education), Navagraha Temple, 84 Mahadev Temples, Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Agar Malwa, and several others.

The Commissioner of Ujjain has also posted on his official X handle about the Temple Bonds.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhilash Mishra said ₹275 crore from the Urban Challenge Fund would be used to improve surrounding urban infrastructure, including roads, drainage, street lighting, and parking.

UDA CEO Sandeep Soni informed that discussions for bank funding are already underway.

The project aims to elevate facilities for devotees to world-class standards, including better darshan systems, crowd management, sanitation, drinking water, security, and parking.

Special focus will be placed on preserving the ancient character and archaeological significance of the temples while introducing modern amenities such as façade lighting, digital displays, and queue management systems.

With Simhastha-2028 approaching and a sharp rise in devotees following the development of Mahakal Lok, the administration hopes this initiative will ease infrastructure pressure and generate local employment.

The successful model for the redevelopment of the Mahakaleshwar Temple will be replicated across these sites.

Washington, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) selection of the 11th Panchen Lama stands as a case study in failure, underscoring that legitimacy cannot be imposed and authenticity cannot be manufactured. If Beijing proceeds with efforts to influence the succession of the 14th Dalai Lama in the similar manner, it risks the same outcome marked by rejection from Tibetans, sparking international criticism, and laying bare Beijing's insecurity.

The lesson for China is straightforward — imposed religious leaders do not ensure stability but risk reinforcing failure, Khedroob Thondup, nephew of the Dalai Lama, wrote in US magazine ‘Journal of Democracy'.

“In 1995, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) abducted a six-year-old boy, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, recognised by the 14th Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama. In his place, Beijing installed Gyaincain Norbu, a figure groomed to embody the Party’s vision of Tibetan Buddhism under state control,” Thondup detailed.

“Three decades later, the results are undeniable: Norbu remains a ceremonial presence with no legitimacy among Tibetans, no spiritual authority in the Buddhist world, and no recognition beyond the machinery of the CCP itself. This failure is not merely a religious matter — it is a geopolitical lesson,” he added.

Thondup noted that Beijing has already indicated its intention to control the Dalai Lama’s succession, insisting that the 15th incarnation must receive state approval.

“The CCP has invoked the Qing dynasty’s 'Golden Urn' system, claiming historical precedent for state involvement in Tibetan succession. Yet this argument is historically tenuous and strategically misguided. The Dalai Lama is not merely a religious figure but a global symbol of compassion, resilience and nonviolent resistance,” he stated.

According to the report, a state-appointed Dalai Lama would be widely viewed “not as a spiritual leader but as a political puppet”, undermining China's credibility and alienating Buddhist communities across Asia — from Mongolia to Sri Lanka, from Nepal to Japan.

“The strategic costs would extend farther. Tibet remains a flashpoint in China’s relations with India, the United States, and Europe. The Dalai Lama’s global stature ensures that his succession will be closely watched by governments and civil society alike. A manufactured Dalai Lama would invite condemnation, deepen mistrust, and complicate China’s diplomatic engagements. Instead of securing stability, Beijing would entrench conflict,” it stated.

Stressing that the decades of Chinese repression have failed to erase Tibetan identity, the report said, the Tibetan people have faced “cultural erasure, religious restrictions, and political marginalisation" yet continued to preserve their traditions, language, and faith.

“The failure of the CCP’s Panchen Lama experiment underscores the resilience of Tibetan identity. Despite state control, Tibetans have refused to accept a manufactured spiritual leader. This resilience will extend to the succession of the Dalai Lama,” it stressed.

New Delhi, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reconstituted the Kanwar Committee to ensure that the upcoming yatra is conducted in a smooth, safe, well-organised, and spiritually enriching manner, said an official on Saturday.

Delhi Minister for Culture and Law Kapil Mishra has been appointed the Chairperson of the committee, while five MLAs representing have been included as members, to ensure a smooth Kanwar Yatra in the coming weeks.

The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government will once again ensure improved, dignified facilities for Shiva devotees during the holy month of Shravan. Special assistance will also be provided to the Kanwar camps for this purpose.

She said that while only 170 Kanwar camps had been approved in the capital in 2024, the number increased to a record 374 in 2025 due to the government's simplified approval process, with a total of 374 registered Kanwar camps established across Delhi.

To facilitate the smooth functioning of these camps, the Delhi government last year discontinued the earlier tender-based system and provided transparent financial assistance directly into bank accounts of registered organising committees through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ranging from Rs 50,000 to a maximum of Rs 11 lakh.

According to the Chief Minister, Mishra will serve as the Chairperson of the Kanwar Committee, while MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goel, and Umang Bajaj have been inducted as members.

The Committee's primary focus will be on route management, the quality of waterproof tents, the availability of medical facilities, and uninterrupted 24-hour power and water supply, along with robust security arrangements, to ensure that this year's Kanwar Yatra is completed smoothly and successfully, as in the previous year.

The Chief Minister said that the Kanwar Yatra is not merely a traditional religious event, but a celebration of India's rich cultural heritage, social harmony, and public faith.

She said that the large number of Shiva devotees who gather on the streets of Delhi during the month of Shravan reflects the country's cultural unity.

The Chief Minister said that arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra are no longer merely routine administrative work for the Delhi government.

Rather, they have become a unique symbol of service, devotion, and respect in the national capital, she said, adding that the Government's primary objective is to ensure that every Kanwariya entering Delhi is treated as an honoured guest and provided with the best possible facilities.

The Chief Minister also informed that, under the leadership of Chairperson Mishra, the newly reconstituted committee will soon hold review meetings with the District Magistrates, Delhi Police, the Public Works Department, the Health Department, and other concerned senior officials.

To reduce the financial burden on organising committees, the Delhi government last year provided up to 1,200 units of free electricity to each registered camp and granted a 75 per cent concession on the security deposit for temporary electricity connections.

New Delhi, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday lauded the coordination between the Ministry and the Hajj Committee of India, which has won the Indian Hajj Mission two awards from the Saudi Arabian government.

In a post on X, Rijiju said, “Proud to share that the Indian Hajj Mission has, for the first time, received two prestigious Labbaytum Awards from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for excellence in Hajj coordination & communication.”

“The successful conduct of the core phase of Hajj 2026 reflects the seamless coordination between the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Hajj Committee of India, and the Indian Hajj Mission led by our Ambassador in KSA and CGI Jeddah,” he said.

“Grateful to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued support and excellent arrangements for pilgrims,” he said.

The Hajj pilgrimage from India for the year 2026 commenced on April 18, with the first batch of pilgrims scheduled to depart for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from various embarkation points across the country. Over 1.75 lakh pilgrims undertook the pious Hajj pilgrimage.

The Ministry made comprehensive arrangements in coordination with the Hajj Committee of India, other Central Ministries, State Governments, and Saudi authorities. These efforts were aimed at ensuring seamless logistics and improved on-ground facilitation for pilgrims.

The Hajj operations were conducted through 17 embarkation points across the country, ensuring regional accessibility and efficient logistics. These included major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Srinagar, and others.

Key new initiatives introduced for Hajj 2026 included enhanced digital facilitation through the Hajj Suvidha App, deployment of Hajj Suvidha Smart Wristbands to help locate missing pilgrims and provide assistance, and the introduction of a short-duration Hajj option of around 20 days for the first time, providing greater flexibility to pilgrims, said a statement.

The Union government also ensured enhanced insurance coverage of approximately Rs 6.25 lakh per pilgrim, strengthening financial and health security during the pilgrimage, it said.

Around 60,000 pilgrims availed the high-speed train service between Makkah and Madinah, ensuring faster, safer, and more comfortable inter-city travel, it said.

In addition, measures such as strengthened real-time monitoring and grievance redressal mechanisms, improved medical screening and healthcare support, and better coordination for accommodation and transport services in Saudi Arabia were put in place this year.

Hotel-style accommodations at Makkah were hired to provide better services to the pilgrims for Hajj 2026. Special emphasis was placed on streamlining embarkation processes at airports to ensure hassle-free departures, the statement said.

Ulaanbaatar, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Underscoring shared Buddhist heritage, the holy relics of the chief disciples of the Buddha — Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Mahamoggallana — arrived in the Mongolian capital on Saturday afternoon for a 10-day public exposition at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery on the occasion of Mongolian Buddha Purnima.

The relics, which enjoy the status of the Head of State in terms of protocol and security, arrived in Ulaanbaatar by a special Indian Air Force (IAF) flight from New Delhi, accompanied by a high level delegation led by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The nearly 45-member delegation also includes senior officers and reputed monks from India and Sri Lanka. According to the Indian Embassy in Mongolia, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is also actively involved in the organisation of the important exposition.

Together, the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, National Museum of India under the Ministry of Culture in association with the Government of Madhya Pradesh, brought the holy relics to Mongolia at the request of the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery.

"India and Mongolia are strategic partners and spiritual siblings with deep civilization linkages due to Buddhism. In this context, the exposition is a good opportunity for the followers of Buddhism in Mongolia to pay their tributes to the relics of Lord Buddha’s two chief disciples," the Indian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar mentioned.

On the sidelines of the exposition, the National Museum of India and IBC would also be organising a special exhibition on Buddhism.

"The Government of Mongolia is extending the necessary support for the exposition of the holy relics. The Gandan Tegchenling Monastery is looking after the religious aspects of the exposition commensurate with the special high status of the relics. Devotees from all over Mongolia will visit the Monastery to pay their tributes. The exposition of the holy relics will further strengthen the existing spiritual bond between India and Mongolia," the Indian Embassy highlighted.

The exposition, which begins on May 31 - the Mongolian Buddha Purnima - and continues till June 10, was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the State Visit of Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to India in October 2025.

"The relationship between India and Mongolia is not merely diplomatic — it is a bond of warmth and spirituality. The true depth and breadth of our relationship is reflected in our people-to-people ties. For centuries, both countries have been bound by the thread of Buddhism, which has led to us being called spiritual siblings. Today, to further strengthen this tradition and give new strength to our historical ties, we have taken several important decisions," PM Modi stated while addressing a joint press meet with the Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa following their talks at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi on October 14.

"I am pleased to announce that next year, the holy relics of two great disciples of Lord Buddha – Sariputra and Maudgalyayana – will be sent from India to Mongolia. We will also send a Sanskrit teacher to Gandan Monastery to study the Buddhist texts there in depth and carry forward the ancient tradition of knowledge," he stated then.

The relevance of the journey of the relics of Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Mahamoggallana to Mongolia lies in their role as Dhamma carriers, pillars of the early Sangha whose lives exemplified the transmission and safeguarding of the Buddha’s teachings.

Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Mahamoggallana were the two chief disciples of the Buddha. Among the countless disciples of the Buddha, none showed greater wisdom and spiritual mastery than the two chief disciples who were born on the same day in adjacent villages in the Magadha region, near present day Nalanda. Arahant Sariputta was born in Upatissa village and Arahant Mahamoggallana in Kolita village. Arahant Sariputta is celebrated throughout the Buddhist world as the supreme exemplar of wisdom, analytical insight and doctrinal mastery.

"It may be noted that these relics till date have gone to only one country, Thailand in 2024 and hence the exposition in Mongolia has special significance. It may be recalled that the exposition of the holy relics of Lord Buddha in Mongolia in June 2022 was a highly successful and memorable event," the Indian Embassy noted.

In June 2022, four sacred Kapilavastu relics of the Buddha were taken from the National Museum of India to Mongolia for an 11-day exposition, marking their first visit to the country in 29 years. The exposition began on June 14, 2022 on the occasion of Mongolian Buddha Purnima. The relics were displayed alongside Mongolia’s revered Buddha Tooth relic at the Gandantegchinlen Monastery in capital Ulaanbaatar. The relics were taken on board a C-17 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and accompanied by the then Minister of Law and Justice, Kiren Rijiju, and the 20th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche.

According to the IBC, for Mongolia, the arrival of these relics will have great meaning. Mongolia’s Buddhist identity has historically been rooted in devotion, scholarship, monastic discipline and meditative tradition. The exposition will establish a sacred and tangible connection because they complete the living picture of the Buddha Dhamma.

In 1978, the then External Affairs Minister (EAM) and later Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had stated: "India and Mongolia are ancient lands of the ancient people of Asia. The historic and cultural collaboration between India and Mongolia is most fascinating and unique and is as old as the history of the spread of Indian culture and ideas into Central Asia and Siberia. We in India consider the Mongol veneration of Sanskrit a matter of special privilege. We hold the people of Mongolia in high esteem for preserving in translation as well as in manuscripts, the vast collection of our precious Sanskrit text on our philosophy, poetry, logic and astronomy lost by us over centuries. In modern times, too, many Mongols visited India–the land of Buddhism."

Taking to X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "Strengthening civilisational links with our neighbour! A warm welcome to President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on his arrival in Bodh Gaya. He was received by Hon'ble Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) at the airport."

"The visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical and people-to-people ties that bind our two countries and the depth of our ongoing cooperation," the Ministry added.

The Myanmar President will also visit the Mahabodhi Ekta Dhamma Monastery later in the day.

During his visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1 on further strengthening the ties between the two countries, according to the MEA.

Guwahati, May 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been leading an Indian delegation carrying the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha’s two principal disciples, Arhant Sariputra and Arhant Maudgalyayana, to Mongolia for a sacred exposition aimed at strengthening the centuries‑old spiritual and cultural ties between the two countries, officials said on Friday.

The exposition is being organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and is being regarded as a landmark spiritual and diplomatic initiative reflecting the shared Buddhist heritage of India and Mongolia.

The sacred relics, preserved at the Sanchi Vihar Chaitya in Madhya Pradesh, will be taken to Mongolia with full ceremonial honours and will remain there till June 9, 2026. The relics originate from the historic Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most revered centres of Buddhist heritage.

According to an official statement issued by the Raj Bhavan on Thursday, the initiative has been undertaken at the special instance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of India’s continued efforts to deepen its enduring spiritual and civilisational connections with Mongolia, often described as India’s “spiritual neighbour” in the Buddhist world.

Governor Acharya is scheduled to depart for Mongolia on May 30, leading the Indian delegation entrusted with the sacred relics.

During the exposition, thousands of devotees, Buddhist monks, scholars, and spiritual followers from across Mongolia are expected to pay homage to the Holy Relics. The event is being viewed as a historic spiritual occasion that symbolises the deep‑rooted friendship and cultural affinity shared by the two nations through Buddhism.

The exposition is also expected to further reinforce people‑to‑people ties and promote India’s rich Buddhist heritage on the global stage.

Governor Acharya is scheduled to return to India on June 3, while the Holy Relics will continue to remain in Mongolia until June 9 as part of the special spiritual exposition programme.

Islamabad, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nearly two years after a violent mob killed 73-year-old Pakistani Christian Nazir (Lazar) Masih over blasphemy allegations in Pakistan's Sargodha, his family has said that they are still waiting for justice, along with compensation for the destruction of their property which remains abandoned after they left the city in Punjab province.

While people in Pakistan celebrated Eid al-Adha, Sultan Gill was preparing for the death anniversary of his father, Nazir (Lazar) Masih, who had died after nearly 2,000 people attacked his family in Sargodha in 2024 following allegations that Masih had desecrated pages of the Quran, a report in EWTN News detailed.

The mob attacked Masih's home and shoe factory and set the business on fire after an announcement in mosque reportedly amplified the allegations. Police evacuated nine members of the family, however, Masih, who was caught by the mob and beaten with stones, bricks and sticks, succumbed to his injuries.

His death had sparked major protests by Christian groups in Pakistan.

"Our wounds became fresh during Eid. The cruelty cannot be described in words," EWTN News quoted Gill as saying. He said, "The confidence is gone. We cannot move around or talk freely. Two of my children had to discontinue their education and start working to support the family in a new city and help pay house rent."

Sultan Gill said that police had assured them that they will receive Pakistani Rupees (PKR) 1.2 million as compensation for damage to the factory, which was actually worth millions. However, he said that they have received nothing despite repeated visits to the district administration and Punjab province's minority affairs minister, according to EWTN News report.

Sargodha police lodged cases against about 450 unidentified suspects under anti-terrorism laws and 25 people were arrested over the attack on Masih. However, Sunil Kaleem, Director of the Organisation for Legal Aid, has said that all of the accused were released within weeks.

Meanwhile, a church leader has accused Pakistani police of not following the Supreme Court's order to arrest all suspects involved in the attacks that took place on multiple churches and Christian homes in Jaranwala area of Pakistan's Punjab province in 2023, a report has stated.

Khalid Mukhtar, whose parish house was among the properties destroyed in the violence, said authorities made little progress despite the Supreme Court's orders on March 31, where it directed police to arrest absconding suspects and ordered the Faisalabad anti-terrorism court to conclude the trials within six months, the Christian Daily International reported.

Mukhtar, who is now serving as priest of St Joseph’s Church in Faisalabad, said: "The Supreme Court directed the police to immediately arrest all absconding suspects and ordered the anti-terrorism court to conclude the trials within six months."

"Despite providing police with video and photographic evidence identifying many of those involved, there has been no meaningful progress in arrests. We have met senior police officials several times since the ruling, but their assurances have not translated into concrete action," he said.

Mukhtar said that only one suspect remains in prison among 336 suspects against whom police have submitted charge sheets, while the others have either been granted bail or discharged from cases lodged by Christians, the report said. Violence in Jaranwala erupted after two Christians were accused of desecrating the Quran. Later, a trial court acquitted both men and stated that they had been falsely implicated following a personal dispute.

Hong Kong, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) A UK-based Christian organisation and rights group has voiced concerns over the restrictions faced by Ahmadis on celebrating Eid al-Adha in Pakistan.

Cecil Shane Chaudhry, South Asia Deputy Team Leader at the UK-based Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), condemned the restrictions imposed on Ahmadi community, terming it "unfortunate" that every year the Ahmadi community face such restrictions from non-state actors and state institutions, a report in Union of Catholic Asian (UCA) News highlighted.

Chaudhry said that it was hoped that ban on extremist groups would improve the situation this year. However, he noted, there was state involvement in restricting Ahmadis from celebrating Eid. He urged the Pakistan government to uphold freedom of religion or belief for every person and respect their rights.

Orthodox Muslim groups in Pakistan regard Ahmadis, a group that emerged in British India in the 19th century and identify as Muslim, as heretical. Ahmadis are not allowed to identify themselves as Muslims or using Islamic symbols in their religious practice, according to a report in Union of Catholic Asian (UCA) News

Amir Mehmood, a spokesman for the community, has accused even the local police of confiscating goats from Ahmadi residents in Karachi.

Mehmood said that his community, comprising 162,684 Ahmadis in Pakistan, according to the 2023 census, has been facing harassment in Pakistan. He said that Ahmadis are summoned to police stations and forced to give undertakings that they will not sacrifice animals or organise Eid gatherings, as per the report.

In March, a leading minority rights group highlighted that members of the Ahmadi community were prevented from offering Eid prayers in several districts of Pakistan's Punjab province.

According to the Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM), police deployments, administrative barriers, and the looming threat of legal consequences ensured that gatherings were either disrupted or did not take place.

"This repetition is what makes the situation especially troubling. These are not isolated incidents or sudden lapses -- they are part of a consistent, almost predictable reality. Year after year, Ahmadis face the same restrictions, the same pressures, and the same message: that their participation in public religious life is not permitted," the VOPM stated.

"The roots of this pattern lie in Pakistan's legal framework, which formally restricts Ahmadi religious practices. Over time, these laws have shaped not only policy but also public attitudes, normalising discrimination and enabling local authorities to act against the community with little resistance. What is enforced on paper translates into lived experiences of fear and marginalisation," it added.

The rights body raised alarm over the role of Pakistani authorities in sustaining this cycle, noting that while law enforcement agencies are meant to ensure safety and protect rights, they often become "instruments of restriction".

The repeated intervention of Pakistani authorities in "peaceful acts of worship", it said, reinforces exclusion and raises serious concerns about accountability and the rule of law.

"For the Ahmadi community, the impact goes far beyond missing a single prayer. Eid is a deeply meaningful occasion -- one that symbolises belonging, faith, and togetherness. Being denied the right to celebrate it openly, year after year, deepens a sense of isolation. It turns a moment of joy into a reminder of inequality," the VOPM stated.

Kolkata, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday performed puja rituals at the ISKCON temple in Mayapur, located in Nadia district.

On arrival at the temple premises on Thursday afternoon, he was received by ISKCON monks, who welcomed him with garlands.

He participated in special rituals in the temple. Later, the Chief Minister visited the cowshed within the ISKCON complex and performed a special Gau-Seva (service to cows) there in the presence of the monks.

He washed the cows' feet there with water and also fed them in the presence of ISKCON monks. He then proceeded to ISKCON’s Chandrodaya temple and offered prayers before the Radha-Krishna idols.

Adhikari also paid homage to ISKCON founder Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada by performing rituals at his temple and offering floral tributes to his statue.

Tight security was put in place at the temple premises in view of Adhikari's visit. However, no inconvenience was caused to any devotee coming to the temple.

The ISKCON monks presented the Chief Minister with a statue of Gaumata. He is also scheduled to hold discussions with the monks later in the day.

“This is his first visit to our temple after he took the oath as the Chief Minister. He performed all the Puja rituals within the temple as per tradition. Later, he will engage himself in an ‘exchange of thought’ with the ISKCON monks. The Chief Minister is really very interested in the functioning of ISKCON,” said the ISKCON spokesman, Rasik Gauranga Das

Just two days ago, CM Adhikari had said that no liquor shops will be allowed within 1 km of educational institutes and temples. He also announced that ‘maach-bhaat’ (fish and rice) will be available in 400 canteens across the State for Rs 5.

Kolkata, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kolkata witnessed a change in arrangements for Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) prayers on Thursday, with namaz held at Brigade Parade Ground instead of the customary Red Road venue, for the first time in years.

After several years, the prayers were not conducted on Red Road, where they had traditionally been held twice a year -- during Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha -- under previous regimes, including the Left Front (1977-2011) and the Trinamool Congress (2011-2026).

During the Trinamool Congress's rule, then-Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the Red Road gatherings twice a year. In earlier years, the use of open roads for congregational prayers often led to traffic disruptions in central Kolkata.

In fact, this time, nowhere in Kolkata was the Bakrid Namaz organised on open roads, which often caused traffic jams during the previous years.

Kolkata Police had extensive security arrangements in place across the city, including Brigade Parade Ground and its adjacent areas, to ensure law & order was maintained on the occasion.

Additional police personnel had been deployed all over the city, especially at places adjacent to mosques. Drones have been used for aerial surveillance.

In fact, after taking oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari announced that the new state government will not allow any religious gathering on the road, causing inconvenience to the public at large due to the traffic congestion it creates.

The impact of this announcement was felt in Kolkata on Thursday, with the Bakrid Namaz organised at Brigade Parade Ground and not on the Red Road, as was the earlier practice.

Last year, the office of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, having the administrative authority of the Red Road, asked the Khilafat Committee to arrange an alternative place for Eid Namaz due to security reasons.

However, Mamata Banerjee then said that she would try to convince the Eastern Command authorities to give permission, but her rule ended after defeat in the polls, as a result of which the Bakrid Namaz was performed at the Brigade Parade Ground.

The festival, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, is one of the most important Islamic festivals after Ramadan and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Observed on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, Bakrid is marked by special prayers, charitable acts and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with meat distributed among relatives, neighbours and the poor.

From the early hours of Thursday, Muslims dressed in traditional attire gathered at mosques, stadiums and open prayer grounds across the state to offer special Eid prayers.

In Chennai, large-scale celebrations were held in areas, including Perambur, Otteri, Royapuram, Purasawalkam, Anna Nagar, Ice House, Washermanpet, Tondiarpet and Kodungaiyur. Thousands of worshippers attended prayers amid tight security and traffic arrangements, while children in colourful festive outfits added vibrancy to the celebrations.
Following the prayers, many families performed the traditional Qurbani ritual by sacrificing goats, cattle, and other permitted animals, with a significant portion of the meat donated to the poor and needy as part of Islamic practice.

Religious scholars delivering Eid messages emphasised the values of sacrifice, compassion, charity, and social harmony associated with Bakrid.

New Delhi, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known as 'Bakrid', was celebrated with religious fervour, prayers, and messages of peace and brotherhood across several parts of the country on Thursday, with authorities deploying extensive security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi, tight police security was deployed across the district. Police personnel were stationed near mosques and Eidgahs, while Superintendent of Police Saravanan T personally monitored the arrangements to ensure that the festival was celebrated peacefully.

In Deoria, Bakrid prayers were offered at the Malviya Road Eidgah amid heavy police deployment. District officials, including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, supervised the arrangements to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth conduct of prayers.

People in Hardoi gathered in large numbers at the Bilgram Chungi Eidgah to offer Eid-ul-Adha prayers.

City Magistrate Sanjay Kumar said that all Eid prayers in the Kotwali city area were conducted peacefully and without any disruption. Residents also expressed satisfaction over the arrangements, stating that Muslims offered prayers peacefully at Eidgahs and mosques across the district.

In Gorakhpur, devotees offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Dargah Mubarak Khan Shaheed, while in Noida, authorities remained on high alert. Joint Commissioner of Police Rajeev Narain Mishra said that prayers were being held at more than 180 mosques across Noida, Greater Noida, and Central Noida zones. He added that drones were being used for surveillance, while 26 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and reserve police forces were deployed to maintain security.

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Minister Danish Azad Ansari offered Bakrid prayers at a mosque near the Vidhan Sabha and extended greetings to people, calling for peace, harmony, and communal unity on the occasion.

Moradabad also witnessed a massive turnout of devotees at Eidgahs from early morning. Authorities made elaborate arrangements, including the deployment of police, paramilitary personnel, and fire brigade teams to ensure peaceful celebrations.

In Muzaffarnagar, Eid prayers concluded peacefully under CCTV surveillance and strict security arrangements. Officials and religious leaders appealed to people to maintain cleanliness and follow proper guidelines during animal sacrifice rituals.

In Delhi, people gathered in large numbers at Jama Masjid to offer prayers on the occasion of Bakrid.

In Maharashtra, devotees gathered in large numbers near Jama Masjid on Malvani Road in Mumbai’s Malad area to offer Eid-ul-Adha prayers. Similar scenes were witnessed in Vasai-Virar and Navi Mumbai’s Sanpada area, where worshippers prayed for peace, prosperity, and brotherhood amid adequate police deployment.

In Tamil Nadu, people offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers at Manjakuppam grounds and nearby mosques in Cuddalore, at Eidgahs in Madurai, and at the Vellaiyampattu Eidgah in Tirupathur.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Eid-ul-Adha prayers were held peacefully at the Eidgah under tight security arrangements.

Eid-ul-Adha is the major Muslim festival, which is also celebrated as Bakrid. The day is celebrated to commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to Allah. This day honours the belief that despite being tempted by the devil, he was so devoted to Allah that nothing could stop him from making the sacrifice. Allah offered a sheep to be sacrificed instead of his son as a token of appreciation for his loyalty.

Shillong, May 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The debate surrounding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) intensified in Meghalaya on Wednesday after the Assam Assembly passed the UCC Bill, 2026, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma asserting that safeguarding tribal rights and the state's matrilineal social structure remains the government's foremost concern.

Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Sangma said the Meghalaya government is closely examining the provisions of the UCC laws introduced in states such as Assam and Uttarakhand before taking any final position on the matter.

He added that when the concept of the Uniform Civil Code was initially discussed nationally, debates largely revolved around the term itself, without clarity on what the actual legislation would contain.

"Different interpretations and apprehensions naturally emerged because people did not know the exact provisions of the proposed law," the Chief Minister said.

Chief Minister Sangma noted that for Meghalaya, a tribal-majority state governed by strong customary traditions, the principal concern has always been whether the implementation of a UCC would interfere with tribal laws, traditional practices and the matrilineal system followed by several indigenous communities.

The Chief Minister reiterated that he had earlier opposed the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code in Meghalaya due to the distinct customs and social structures of tribal communities in the state.

However, he said a preliminary examination of the UCC legislations passed in states like Assam and Uttarakhand suggests that tribal customary laws have been kept outside the ambit of the law.

"From what we have seen on paper, there appear to be safeguards for tribal rights and traditional systems. That has given us some reassurance," CM Sangma added.

At the same time, the Chief Minister clarified that the Meghalaya government would continue studying the legislation from both legal and political perspectives before arriving at any conclusion.

He stressed that the state government would not allow any national legislation to dilute Meghalaya's tribal identity, customary laws or traditional social framework.

"The protection of tribal interests and our matrilineal system will remain our top priority," he said.

The passage of the UCC Bill in Assam has triggered fresh political and social discussions across the Northeast, particularly in tribal-majority states where customary practices enjoy constitutional protection.
