Visakhapatnam, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two fishermen were injured while five others had a narrow escape when a boat in which they had set off for fishing met with an accident near Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, police said.

The boat overturned due to rough sea conditions. The fishermen were trapped under the boat. They managed to push the boat aside and reach the nearby boulders and were later rescued by the marine police.

Two fishermen Thatha Rao and Akash were injured in the incident and were admitted to King George Hospital.

The fishermen said their boat, worth Rs 2.5 lakh and other equipment costing Rs 2 lakh were completely damaged in the incident. They appealed to the government to provide them financial assistance to save their livelihood.

The incident occurred days after six fishermen lost their lives after their boat capsized off the Visakhapatnam coast.

A mechanised fishing vessel, carrying seven fisherfolk, capsized just 10 nautical miles off the Gangavaram coast in Visakhapatnam on July 4. Six of the seven fishermen who went into the sea for the catch were presumed to be dead.

The fishermen had set out for fishing on July 1. The boat capsized while they were returning to the coast. One of them was rescued by the crew of a merchant vessel and was brought to the coast on July 6.

The fishermen remained untraced after a four-day-long search and rescue operation by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. The search operation was called off on July 8.

The state government distributed an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the six fishermen.

Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who consoled the families of the six fishermen, squarely blamed the negligence of the coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the death of six fishermen and demanded compensation of Rs one crore each for the affected families.

He said the boat capsized just 10 miles away from Gangavaram Port and not a single official responded despite repeated pleas from the affected families.

He claimed that the family members repeatedly called and sent SOS messages to the Collector and other officials, but there was no response. Had there been one, the other fishermen could have been rescued. All seven persons had set sail, but only one returned with great difficulty, and the government did not respond in the way it should have, he said.

Sources close to the unit of the film say that the film's plot will revolve around old cameras.

For the unaware, the makers of the film had only recently announced that the shooting for the film had been wrapped up. Sources say that a giant set was erected for the purpose of shooting this film and that the entire film was shot in it.

Sources also claim that actor, director and producer Vijay Antony, who saw some scenes from this film, was impressed and that he had congratulated the director of the film.

On the technical front, the film will have cinematography by Sridhar Subramani. Music for the film has been scored by Anand Kashinath while editing for the film is being done by well known editor N B Srikanth.

Costumes for this film have been designed by Srinisha Balaji and stunts in the film have been choreographed by Ram Kumar. The songs in the film will have lyrics by Adhesh Krishna and Eshwar Santhanalakshmi.

Dances in the film have been choreographed by Santhosh while sound design will be by Sathish Kumar.

Hyderabad, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a shocking development, a Class 2 student of a private school in Hyderabad was asked by a teacher to recite the 'Kalma', leading to anger and outrage from the student’s parents and local residents.

The incident took place in Hyderabad’s Saidabad area. As the school came under fire from all quarters, the management on Thursday terminated the services of the teacher.

The Class 2 student was reportedly assigned the task as a homework activity in his school diary, the pictures of which are widely circulated on social media.

As the parents learnt about the alleged attempt by the teacher to memorise Islamic religious texts, they took up the matter with school authorities and confronted the management. They expressed deep anger and questioned the inappropriate conduct of the school, questioning the attempts to vitiate the academic environment for children.

Some videos of parents engaged in verbal exchange with school authorities are also doing the rounds on social media.

The parents demanded stern and swift action against the school authorities and those involved in pressurising students to undertake such activity. The matter turned bigger as local community members joined the parents in protesting against ‘inhuman practices’ at the school.

Facing flak from all quarters, the school has terminated the services of the school teacher.

In an order dated July 16, the school said, Your services as Mother Teacher at Success the School are terminated."

"You are informed that you are permanently disqualified to apply for employment in future in the Success group of education institutions,” the order said, addressed to a teacher named Shaikh Aisha Parveen.

The parents have also demanded a formal investigation, seeking that religious practices remain distinctly separate from classroom activities. They have also approached the local police to hold the school accountable for the alleged incident.

The incident drew strong condemnation from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Calling it an assault on children’s impressionable minds, VHP’s Vinod Bansal said, “Schools are temples of knowledge, not centres for imposing religious educational kalma or jihadist agendas. The incident of teaching kalma to innocent second-grade students in Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad) is a direct assault on children's constitutional rights and parents' trust. Strict action should be taken against the guilty school management.”

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed it to be the handiwork of the conversion mafia in Telangana while implying that the Congress party was the ‘inspiration’ behind it.

Referring to its previous “Congress = Muslims” stand, he alleged that the conversion mafia in Telangana was motivated by the grand old party’s designs and was trying to convert them by forcing them to read ‘Kalma’.

“Rahul Gandhi supports conversion mafia. Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are hand in glove. Congress is anti-Hindu,” he wrote in a post on X.

Sun Pictures, which is producing the film, took to its social media timelines to make the announcement. It wrote, "#DC is certified 'A'. Releasing in theatres worldwide from August 7!"

For the unaware, the film was originally scheduled to hit screens a week earlier on July 31.

The film has triggered huge expectations among fans and film buffs as this film will mark the acting debut of director Lokesh Kanakaraj.

A special promo for the film that was released on the occasion of Valentine's Day this year gave away the fact that Lokesh Kanakaraj plays a character called Devadas in the film, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays a character called Chandra and actress Sanjana A K plays a character called Parvathi.

The video released was on similar lines to the title teaser of the film, which the makers released last year. The promo appeared to lend credibility to rumours that this film would be a gangster drama.

The promo starts off with Parvathi approaching a mike to but is unable to speak or sing. We then see Chandra putting on make up in what appears to be a house of ill repute. There are scenes that show Devadas and Parvathi having a conversation and Devadas consoling Chandra. The promo also has some grim visuals. Devadas is seen slitting the throat of an injured man and severing the head of another. The video ends with Devadas and Chandra getting away in a car.

The film has dialogues by Arun Matheswaran and Franklin Jacob with additional screenplay by Arun Ranjan.

Music for the film is by Anirudh and cinematography is by Mukesh G. Editing for the film is by G K Prasanna and art direction by Kannan S.

For the unaware, Lokesh Kanakaraj had undergone martial arts training for this film. Lokesh underwent martial arts training in Thailand for this film soon after he directed Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Coolie', which hit screens worldwide on August 14 last year.

Hyderabad, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) A controversy erupted at a private school in Hyderabad following an allegation that a Hindu student of Class 2 was assigned Islamic religious verses as homework.

The student was asked to recite ‘Kalima’ and ‘Sura Fatiha’. The incident occurred at a school in the Saidabad area.

The parents of the student confronted the school management, questioning the appropriateness of such an act within an academic environment.

The parents lodged their protest with the management of ‘Success’ school and demanded action against the teacher involved.

Following the protest, the school management sacked the teacher. She has been permanently disqualified from applying for employment in future in the ‘Success’ group of educational institutions.

According to the parents, the teacher had given the homework on July 15. “Read Sura Fatiha”, mentioned in the school diary under the subject ‘Deeniyath’. Earlier on July 11, the teacher had written ‘Read Kalima’, but the same was struck off by the teacher, apparently after realising that the subject did not apply to the non-Muslim student.

According to the school management, almost all the students in the school are Muslims, and they have the subject of ‘Deeniyath’ or Islamic teaching. However, the subject is not taught to non-Muslim students.

‘Kalima’ is the Islamic declaration of faith and testimony, while ‘Surah Fatiha’ is the first chapter of the Holy Quran.

The management clarified that it was an inadvertent mistake, but they still took the action of terminating the services of the teacher.

Meanwhile, independent MLA T. Raja Singh Lodh condemned the incident. He said it was deeply shameful that a Class 2 student was allegedly pressured by the school management to recite the Kalma.

“This is not the first such case in Telangana; there have been several similar incidents in the past. Yesterday, when the parents of the child went to the school and questioned the management about how they could pressure their Hindu child to recite the Kalma, the school authorities had no answer,” he said

He demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy take action against schools which are forcing Hindu children to recite ‘Kalma’.

The former BJP MLA questioned the silence of AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on the issue.

Washington, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) A bipartisan group of US senators has unveiled legislation to increase scrutiny of foreign ownership in America's pharmaceutical industry, warning that growing dependence on China for critical medicines and drug ingredients poses risks to US national security and public health.

The proposed Pharmaceutical Investment Oversight and Accountability Act, introduced by Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Rick Scott along with Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday (local time), would require annual reports to Congress on foreign investment in pharmaceutical manufacturing and related technologies.

Supporters said the measure is intended to improve transparency over who ultimately owns or controls companies that supply medicines to Americans.

"The American people, and especially seniors, deserve to know who actually controls the medicines keeping them alive," Scott said while opening the hearing.

Scott argued that Washington lacks a complete picture of foreign ownership across the pharmaceutical supply chain, including facilities that manufacture medicines, produce key ingredients or hold sensitive clinical data. He warned that geopolitical tensions could expose vulnerabilities if critical supplies were disrupted.

Gillibrand said the United States remained heavily dependent on China and India for key starting materials and active pharmaceutical ingredients used to manufacture many generic medicines. She said stronger oversight was needed to understand the extent of foreign influence while ensuring that trusted international investment continues.

"We must bolster federal oversight efforts and increase transparency on how foreign capital impacts American health care infrastructure," Gillibrand said.

Several witnesses told the committee that China has expanded its presence beyond generic drug manufacturing into biotechnology research, clinical trials and pharmaceutical innovation, raising concerns about long-term US competitiveness and supply chain resilience.

Former Commerce Department official Nazak Nikakhtar urged Congress to tighten oversight of Chinese investments in US biotechnology companies. She argued that existing laws leave significant gaps, allowing some investments, licensing arrangements and data-sharing agreements to escape government review.

Stephen Ezell, vice president at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, said China has used industrial subsidies, aggressive pricing and acquisitions to build a dominant position across the pharmaceutical value chain.

He called for stronger disclosure rules requiring companies operating in strategic sectors to identify their beneficial ownership and foreign control.

Rush Doshi, director of the China Strategy Initiative at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the United States had become increasingly dependent on Chinese suppliers for upstream pharmaceutical inputs used in hundreds of medicines.

He urged Washington to diversify production, strengthen domestic manufacturing and expand cooperation with allies.

Speaking specifically about India, Ezell said New Delhi could become an important partner in reducing dependence on China. He suggested that pharmaceutical cooperation should become part of the broader US-India strategic partnership, alongside collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and critical minerals.

He also said the US Development Finance Corporation could support pharmaceutical manufacturing in India through loan guarantees and other financing tools.

For the unaware, director Hanu Raghavapudi's upcoming historical action film, featuring actor Prabhas in the lead, was titled 'Fauzi'. While announcing the title of the film, the makers had used Sanskrit Shlokas.

Opening up on why they had used the Shlokas, director Hanu Raghavapudi had said, “We intentionally used Sanskrit Shlokas because they add gravity and meaning to our warrior tale. Prabhas, who has been experimenting with diverse roles, reportedly plays a complex character torn between duty, emotion, and ideology.

'Fauzi' marks Prabhas’s return to a grand period drama epic after 'Baahubali', promising an emotional and visually breathtaking cinematic experience. The film is expected to be released in theatres in multiple languages this year.

The film, which is set in the 1940s and which was tentatively being referred to as #PrabhasHanu before being titled 'Fauzi', will be a fictional historical and will feature actress Imanvi as the female lead.

Apart from Prabhas and Imanvi, the film also will feature veteran actors Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Bhanu Chander and Jayapradha in pivotal roles.

Amaravati, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Police in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh filed a case against former minister and YSR Congress Party leader Ambati Rambabu for allegedly preventing police personnel from discharging their duties.

The case has been registered at Kirlampudi Police Station in connection with the incident that occurred during the last rites of former minister and Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham in Kirlampudi village on Wednesday.

Rambabu and his supporters allegedly pushed policemen when they were presenting a guard of honour.

As the family of the late leader declined the State honours, YSRCP leaders raised objections to the presence of police personnel for giving the guard of honour. Rambabu had an argument with the police officers and allegedly pushed them.

On a complaint by Armed Reserve Sub-Inspector V. Appalaraju and a few constables, a case was registered against Rambabu and others.

The policemen alleged that the YSRCP leader and his supporters tried to deter them from discharging their duties and deliberately pushed them.

Padmanabham (73) died of illness at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

He was buried under a mango tree at his residence in Kirlampudi village, in keeping with his last wish that he not be cremated.

According to his family members, he was buried in his regular attire, with his belongings.

Former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy guided the rites and was one of the pallbearers.

Though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had decided that the last rites of Padmanabham be performed with state honours, the family declined to accept it.

YSRCP leaders said the family had declined the State honours citing the “harassment” they faced during N. Chandrababu Naidu’s government between 2014 and 2019.

When police personnel arrived at the late leader’s residence to present a guard of honour, the YSRCP leaders raised objections. Rambabu and others entered into an argument with a police officer and allegedly pushed them.

Several cases have been booked against Rambabu during the last two years. In most cases, he was charged with behaving rudely with police and preventing them from discharging their duties.

Speaking to IANS, Dharmendra Pradhan said: "We are all fortunate that today we will get to have a 'darshan' of Mahaprabhu Lord Jagannath during the sacred Rath Yatra."

"Shortly, the 'Pahandi' ritual will begin, during which Mahaprabhu, along with his brother Lord Balram and sister Goddess Subhadra, will be ceremonially brought to their chariots. Only those who are truly blessed get the opportunity to witness this, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the darshan of Mahaprabhu," he added.

As scores of devotees gathered to witness the huge procession amid rainfall, the Union Minister said: "This is 'pushpa varsha' (showering of flowers). We are fortunate that Lord Indra is showering petals for the Rath Yatra of the 'Mahaprabhu'."

Meanwhile, Chief Priest of the Jagannath Temple, Jagannath Swain Das Mahapatra, called the sacred 'Shri Gundicha Yatra' (Rath Yatra), as the "most auspicious day in the world".

"On this day, Lord Jagannath comes out of the temple to give darshan to devotees irrespective of any religion they belong to. There is no discrimination on the basis of religion or caste," he told IANS.

The priest noted that this is the only time of the year when the devotees can have a darshan of Lord Jagannath while he is riding the chariot.

A devotee, who had come to witness the holy procession in Puri for the first time, said: "The management is really good here; the security measures are also in place."

"Rainy weather is better than the scorching heat...it is a great experience," he added.

Another devotee said that he had been trying to come here for the last two or three years. "This time, Lord Jagannath finally called me. Everything fell into place on its own, and I made it here," he said.

Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday extended greetings on the occasion of the annual Rath Yatra, terming the festival as a celebration of "our rich civilisational ethos" and an "emotional moment of union" between devotees and the Lord.

In a sharply worded editorial published in the party's mouthpiece 'Saamana', the Thackeray camp targeted the civic administration for its absolute lack of accountability, accusing it of staging a political drama over a recent tragedy in Chembur.

On June 30, an 11-year-old child, Vihaan Srivastav, lost his life, and several other children were injured when a massive roadside tree crashed onto their school bus near Diamond Garden in Chembur. Following public outrage, the BMC appointed an internal inquiry committee to investigate the collapse. However, the recently submitted report has drawn heavy criticism from the opposition. The inquiry committee completely exonerated the BMC's relevant internal departments -- specifically the Gardens and Roads departments. Instead of fixing direct administrative accountability, the panel merely recommended a combined fine of Rs 7 lakh, split between the contractor and the supervising project consultant.

The editorial labelled this probe a "predetermined, favourable script". It revealed that the official directly responsible for the city’s concreting works was himself appointed to the probe committee, making any expectations of an impartial report "pure fantasy".

"The committee appeared to have been engineered to deliver a predetermined, favourable script. By declaring the Gardens and Roads departments entirely innocent and settling for a minor fine on the contractor, the administration has given its own officials a free pass," it remarked.

The Thackeray camp highlighted a glaring split in messaging within the civic leadership. While experts and local residents point out that excessive and faulty concreting around roots is a primary driver behind Mumbai's rising tree-collapse incidents, the authorities remain in active denial.

"The Municipal Commissioner has flatly denied that unscientific road concretisation plays a role in weakening tree roots. The Mumbai Mayor and other ruling politicians have actively blamed the concreting works in an apparent bid to deflect public anger. With the release of the controversial report, Mayor publicly rejected its findings, demanding a criminal case against the contractor instead of a mere penalty," said the Thackeray camp. It dismissed these moves as hollow dramatics designed to mislead citizens.

The Thackeray camp questioned why the leadership has resorted to rhetoric instead of enforcing direct, punitive action. "The Commissioner was appointed by you. The ruling power in the Municipal Corporation belongs to you. The committee to investigate the Chembur tragedy was formed by you," the editorial pointed out. "Yet, when the committee’s findings spark outrage, you are the ones performing high drama."

The editorial concluded by linking the civic failures in Mumbai to broader state and national leadership patterns. It argued that when leaders at the Centre merely express "regret" over massive financial scams like the Ram Mandir donation box scandal, and a Chief Minister at the state level openly threatens opposition members who raise voices against corruption, one can hardly expect better from their Mayor in the BMC.

"From the Centre down to the civic bodies, Mumbai is unfortunately being ruled by an administration of absolute deceit, leaving ordinary citizens and children to pay the price," the editorial said.

In a post on social media platform X after attending the pre-dawn ritual, HM Shah said he had sought the blessings of Lord Jagannath at the historic temple in the Jamalpur area before the commencement of the annual procession.

"On the sacred occasion of Shri Jagannath Rath Yatra, I participated in the Mangala Aarti at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad and sought the blessings of Mahaprabhu. This moment, filled with devotion and faith, always brings a special sense of spiritual fulfilment," HM Shah wrote.

He added, "I pray to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath to continue showering His blessings upon everyone. Jai Jagannath!"

Earlier in the day, HM Shah participated in the Mangala Aarti at the temple, one of the first rituals performed on Rath Yatra day before the ceremonial departure of the chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, held on Ashadhi Bij, began from the nearly 400-year-old Shree Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad's Jamalpur and is regarded as the second-largest Rath Yatra in the country after the festival in Puri, Odisha.

Every year, the procession attracts lakhs of devotees who gather along the traditional route to witness the chariots and seek the blessings of the deities.

The day's ceremonies also included the traditional 'Pahind Vidhi', performed by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel before the procession set off from the temple.

Thousands of devotees assembled from the early hours of the morning to witness the rituals and the beginning of the 149th edition of the yatra.

Authorities put in place extensive security and civic arrangements for the procession, deploying more than 31,000 police personnel along with drones, CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras and artificial intelligence-enabled surveillance systems to monitor the 16-km route.

It is around 2:30 a.m., and as you can see, the streets of Ahmedabad are still filled with thousands of youths and elderly people chanting 'Jai Jagannath'. Preparations are underway in every lane to serve prasadi to Lord Jagannath's devotees," he said.

Devotees who gathered outside the temple spoke of their enthusiasm for the annual festival.

One devotee said, "I have come here for the first time to witness the Rath Yatra. My family, Laddu Gopal, and I have all come for the darshan." Another devotee said, "I felt immense joy. Today, for the first time, I had the opportunity to have the darshan of Lord Jagannath in this way."

A regular visitor to the procession said, "We have been here since 3:30 a.m. We come here every year in the morning for the Rath Yatra."

Earlier in the morning, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah performed the 'Mangala Aarti' and offered prayers at the temple, while Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel carried out the traditional 'Pahind Vidhi', ceremonially sweeping the path before the chariots with a golden broom before the procession began.

To facilitate the movement of pilgrims travelling to Puri, Indian Railways has also announced the operation of special train services on multiple routes during the festival period.

According to the Railways, the special trains will operate between Jagdalpur and Puri, as well as between Rayagada and Puri, providing additional travel options and easing passenger movement during the Jagannath Rath Yatra.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Police have put in place dynamic traffic arrangements, keeping in view the inflow and outflow of vehicles visiting Puri to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have installed 595 permanent and 1,050 temporary signages for public convenience.

This apart, more than 13,000 police personnel, along with an adequate number of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), will be deployed for security arrangements during the festival.

The Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy will also remain on alert to check any illegal activities through the coastal route.

On the other hand, as many as 19 senior IPS officers have been assigned the duty to supervise the overall security arrangements.

The state government has installed 473 CCTV cameras to keep a watch on the movement of devotees and 65 large LED screens to disseminate important information to devotees in Odia, Hindi and English.

Similarly, 16 permanent mobile towers and several temporary towers have also been set up to strengthen communication services.

Bulk messaging facilities will also be used to disseminate information.

Amaravati, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday affirmed that his vision is to interlink rivers across Andhra Pradesh from Vamsadhara to Penna. He said that just as the Golden Quadrilateral transformed India's road network, a nationwide river-linking programme can transform the country's future.

He reiterated that the state government will complete 36 priority irrigation projects over the next three years with an investment of Rs 35,000 crore.

“If water flowing into the sea is effectively utilised for irrigation, drinking water and industrial needs, it will generate enormous wealth,” he said while addressing a public meeting after offering Jala Harathi to the Godavari waters at the sacred confluence of the Krishna and Godavari rivers near Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district.

He claimed that the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project has transformed the fortunes of farmers in the Krishna Delta by ensuring timely irrigation facilities. He revealed that 450 TMC of Godavari floodwaters have been diverted to the Krishna River through Pattiseema since 2015. Constructed at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore, the project has not only stabilised the Krishna Delta but has also contributed significantly to wealth creation across the state, he said.

The Chief Minister said Pattiseema has enabled Godavari waters to reach the Krishna River, making the Krishna Delta green and prosperous. The Telugu Desam Party government completed the project within a year and safeguarded the Krishna Delta. “With 80 TMC of water, we stabilised irrigation for 13 lakh acres in the delta despite criticism from some people,” he said.

“Today, farmers in the Krishna Delta are reaping rich harvests because of Pattiseema. By diverting Godavari water through the Polavaram Right Main Canal, we are conserving Krishna waters in the Srisailam reservoir and supplying them to Rayalaseema. The coalition government's goal is to provide irrigation to every cultivable acre in the state,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said the government spent Rs 68,000 crore on the irrigation sector between 2014 and 2019, and another Rs 24,000 crore in the last two years since 2024.

On the occasion of the 124th birth anniversary of eminent engineer Dr K.L. Rao, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes to his portrait.

The Chief Minister said the government is organising statewide programmes to inspire future generations of engineers with the legacy of K.L. Rao.

Highlighting the legacy of K.L. Rao, the Chief Minister said the legendary engineer played a pivotal role in the construction of major irrigation projects such as the Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Hirakud and Kosi dams. He also served as an international water expert for the United Nations in countries such as Egypt and Sudan.

The platform was inaugurated at the office of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri on the eve of the annual Rath Yatra, beginning on Thursday.

This historic initiative has been jointly developed by the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), under the state's Electronics and Information Technology Department, and the SJTA. According to an official statement, the secure digital platform, developed by OCAC, has been integrated with the official SJTA portal, enabling devotees to make donations with complete security and transparency.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi said the Digital Hundi – Samarpan is not merely a technology-driven reform; it is a sacred and transparent bridge that connects the devotion and dedication of millions of Jagannath devotees worldwide with the Shree Jagannath Temple.

He expressed confidence that the initiative would prove to be a milestone in preserving the rich traditions of Lord Jagannath and promoting the holistic development of the Shree Jagannath Temple.

The Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at connecting devotees from across the globe with the Shree Jagannath Temple. He said the donations received through the platform will be utilised for the temple's development and maintenance.

He said the system is very simple, transparent and user-friendly, enabling lakhs of Jagannath devotees in India and abroad to offer their contributions to Lord Jagannath from the comfort of their homes. Under the direct guidance of the state government, a dedicated web portal as well as a mobile application have been developed as part of this technology-driven initiative.

The Chief Minister said that devotees can log in using their mobile number and a one-time password (OTP) to make donations through multiple payment options, including UPI, internet banking, debit and credit cards, and WhatsApp. A digital receipt will be generated instantly upon successful completion of the transaction.

Majhi said there is no minimum or maximum limit on donations, allowing devotees to contribute any amount starting from Re 1 according to their capacity. Donors contributing to the temple's 'Repair and Renovation Fund' and 'Corpus Fund' can also avail themselves of income tax benefits by providing their Permanent Account Number (PAN) details.

Apart from facilitating donations, the mobile application will also provide devotees with information on the temple, daily rituals, latest announcements and updates. It will also offer services such as booking accommodation at Bhakta Nivas for pilgrims visiting Puri.

The Chief Minister said this project successfully reflects the Odisha government's commitment to complete transparency and people-centric governance.

Hyderabad, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Telangana Police has initiated steps to establish a Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to strengthen road safety measures and reduce road accidents across the state, Director General of Police C.V. Anand said on Wednesday.

He chaired a high-level review meeting with senior police officers to deliberate on the proposed bureau and its operational framework.

The DGP reviewed the proposed organisational structure of the Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau, its functions, staffing requirements, legal framework, and administrative mechanisms.

Detailed discussions were also held on the bureau's role in traffic management, accident prevention, enforcement strategies, and coordination with various stakeholder departments.

The meeting examined the existing road safety scenario in the state, best practices adopted by other states, the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, Government of India directives, and relevant Government Orders (GOs) relating to road safety and traffic management.

The officers also discussed measures required to build a comprehensive institutional framework for improving road safety.

Emphasising the need for a coordinated and scientific approach, the DGP directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the proposed bureau.

He stressed the importance of strengthening inter-departmental coordination, enhancing traffic enforcement, analysing accident data, and creating sustained public awareness on road safety.

Anand further stated that another review meeting would be convened shortly to finalise the structure, responsibilities, and implementation roadmap for the proposed bureau.

Meanwhile, the DGP chaired another high-level review meeting with officials of the EAGLE (Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau) on Wednesday. The police chief said the state government was taking decisive steps to make all educational institutions completely drug-free and to ensure students' safety and well-being.

The DGP emphasised that educational institutions should have zero tolerance for drugs. He stated that there should be absolutely no place for drugs in schools, colleges, or other educational campuses and stressed the need for a comprehensive safety mechanism to protect students from the growing menace of narcotic substances.

As part of the proposed initiative, Anti-Drug and Safety Committees will be established in all schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across the state. Every institution will be required to appoint a Campus Safety Coordinator to oversee student safety, anti-drug awareness programmes, counselling initiatives, and coordination with parents and law enforcement agencies.

During the meeting, EAGLE officials presented a detailed overview of the proposed framework, responsibilities, implementation mechanism, monitoring system, and operational guidelines for the Anti-Drug and Safety Committees.

After reviewing the presentation, the DGP suggested several modifications and additions to strengthen the proposed guidelines and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive framework incorporating the recommendations made during the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Patel described the festival of Ashadhi Bij as a celebration of "harmony, service, devotion and cultural unity".

"On the auspicious occasion, Lord Jagannath sets out on the annual city procession to bless people from all sections of society with happiness, peace, prosperity and welfare," he said.

Referring to Lord Jagannath as 'Daridra Narayan', the Chief Minister said the Rath Yatra carries a message of compassion and service towards labourers and the underprivileged while reinforcing the values of harmony and humanity that are integral to Indian culture.

He said, "Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra is a symbol of Gujarat's proud tradition, cultural heritage and social unity."

Appealing to people to celebrate the festival peacefully, Patel urged citizens to observe the occasion in a spirit of brotherhood, mutual affection and social harmony.

The Chief Minister also called upon people to embrace Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas" and work collectively towards building a prosperous, happy and developed Gujarat.

Patel prayed to Lord Jagannath for lasting peace, prosperity and all-round development in the state, and for every citizen to be blessed with happiness and well-being.

The 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra will be held on Thursday from the Jagannath Temple in the Jamalpur area, following traditional rituals.

The procession, one of Gujarat's largest annual religious events, is expected to pass through its customary route before returning to the temple in the evening.

Authorities have put in place extensive security and civic arrangements, including technology-assisted surveillance, drone monitoring and traffic management measures, to ensure the smooth conduct of the procession.

Hyderabad, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao on Wednesday met Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy in New Delhi and urged the immediate revival of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad.

Rama Rao, who led a delegation of farmers and representatives of the CCI Sadhana Samithi, reminded Kumaraswamy of the assurance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2019 to revive the plant.

KTR said that instead of allowing this valuable public asset to be reduced to scrap, the Centre must act decisively. Spread over nearly 2,300 acres with an installed capacity of 4 lakh tonnes, the CCI plant can be revived with an investment of around Rs 2,000 crore, he said.

The BRS leader stated that if the Centre and the state government contribute Rs 250 crore each as viability support, the project can be restarted, creating employment for nearly 6,000 people.

He said just as the Centre extended a special package to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Adilabad CCI too deserves similar support, adding that the BRS will continue its fight until the CCI plant is revived.

Meanwhile, in an interaction with the media in the national capital, KTR clarified that his entire struggle and battle are directed solely at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the sake of Telangana.

He stated that he has no personal animosity towards Revanth Reddy; rather, he is questioning him because the decisions he is making are causing hardship to the people.

KTR remarked that Revanth Reddy has practically earned "four or five PhDs" in the art of diverting public attention. He questioned why the CM, who made it a daily routine to criticise them even 31 months after assuming power, repeatedly targets the BRS party despite dismissing it as a "corpse."

KTR demanded to know what the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was doing about the reckless statements made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, asking whether he was indifferent to the matter. He lashed out at the Telangana Chief Minister for speaking so irresponsibly.

KTR expressed outrage, asking if any Chief Minister would ever suggest spilling blood in the fields or claim Hitler as their role model.

He alleged that the government was deliberately causing trouble for farmers over the Kaleshwaram project, taking out its anger on the farming community. Noting that Revanth Reddy had visited Delhi 76 times, KTR questioned whether the Chief Minister had managed to bring even 76 paise to the state.

KTR slammed Revanth Reddy for levelling allegations against them without any evidence. He challenged the accusers to produce evidence regarding whose phones were actually tapped, noting that allegations had previously been made claiming they had tapped the phones of film personalities as well.

He stated that Revanth Reddy is in a state of panic after seeing the results of four recent surveys. KTR explained that while these surveys clearly indicate the BRS will return to power in the future, his party had not conducted any such surveys itself.

Amaravati, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Wednesday that Amaravati is being developed as a world-class city that will serve as the driving force of the state's future economic growth.

He said that the Integrated master plan for Amaravati should be designed as an inclusive capital city where people from all parts of the state can come to work and live together.

Reviewing the progress of the Amaravati 2.0 Integrated Master Plan and the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS-2) with senior officials and representatives from Singapore, the Chief Minister stressed on strengthening Amaravati’s economy to create large-scale employment opportunities.

He said the capital is being developed into an international-standard city with well-planned Inner and Outer Ring Roads.

During the meeting, the Singapore team presented the project's scope, implementation strategy and action plan. They informed the Chief Minister that the plan includes area development, infrastructure planning and investment models.

Referring to the state's water resources, the Chief Minister noted that despite challenges posed by El Nino conditions, the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme has ensured the transfer of Godavari waters to the Krishna River, making the capital region water-secure and resource-rich.

He further stated that Amaravati should evolve into a creative city with a strong economic base. The government's goal is to achieve global benchmarks and one of the highest per capita income levels through sustainable and innovation-driven development. He added that Amaravati is being planned with a strong focus on environmental sustainability through the adoption of green energy and green building practices.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government signed an MoU with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to promote inclusive and sustainable urban development across the state.

The strategic agreement was formalised between the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Department and UN-Habitat in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and UN-Habitat Executive Director Anaclaudia Rossbach, who participated virtually from Singapore.

The partnership aims to establish a Centre of Excellence for Urban Affairs in Amaravati as part of the state's SURGE AP, RISE AP and UPLIFT AP initiatives. The collaboration will focus on urban poverty alleviation, improving livelihoods for the urban poor and promoting inclusive city development.

Under the MoU, Andhra Pradesh and UN-Habitat will work together on strategic urban planning for regional economic growth, climate-resilient and sustainable urban ecosystems, digital governance, municipal finance and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The two sides also agreed to showcase Andhra Pradesh's urban development achievements at the 14th World Urban Forum (WUF14) to be held in Mexico in 2028.

The actress has now put out videos of her attempting to sing some of the iconic chartbusters sung by the legend as a small tribute to the great playback singer who recently passed away in Mysuru after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Taking to her Instagram page to post the videos of her singing the legendary singer's songs, Shivani Narayanan wrote, "No formal training, just pure admiration for the Nightingale of the South."

Shivani announced, "I am not a professionally trained singer, but my love for Janaki Amma’s magical voice always inspires me to try. Growing up listening to Janaki Amma’s divine voice taught me how to feel music. This is just a small, heartfelt attempt. Singing her track is incredibly challenging because her vocal modulation is perfection, but I couldn’t resist trying out of sheer love and respect."

The actress said that the void left by the legend was irreplaceable, but that her music was an eternal comfort.

Shivani concluded her post, saying,"A golden voice has fallen silent, but her melodies will echo forever,"

For the unaware, legendary singer and four-time National Award winner S Janaki, who has rendered over a whopping 48,000 songs in several Indian languages, passed away at a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

She was 88.

The Apollo BGS Hospitals in Mysuru, where she was admitted on Saturday afternoon, issued a statement soon after her demise.

In its statement, the hospital said, "Mrs. S. Janaki was admitted to Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru, on 11 July 2026 at 12:49 PM. On admission, her condition was critical, and she was immediately evaluated and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further management."

The hospital informed that despite intensive medical care and continuous monitoring by a multidisciplinary team, the veteran singer suffered a cardiac arrest during the course of treatment.

"Advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated immediately in accordance with standard medical protocols. Despite resuscitative efforts, she experienced multiple cardiac arrests and could not be revived.

Mrs. S. Janaki was declared deceased at 7:30 PM on 11 July 2026."

Hyderabad, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Election Commission of India on Wednesday revised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) schedule for Telangana, with the house-to-house visit by BLOs being extended from July 24 to August 3.

The poll panel has also extended the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations from July 24 to August 3.

The draft publication of rolls has been extended to August 10, and the period of filing claims and objections will now be from August 10 to September 9. The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections are now from August 10 to October 10, and the final publication of rolls is scheduled for October 12.

As per the earlier schedule announced in May, the house-to-house enumeration exercise by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) was scheduled from June 25 to July 24. The draft electoral roll was to be published on July 31, with the final electoral rolls on October 1.

As per the status report on SIR on Wednesday (July 15), the BLOs have achieved 100 per cent distribution of enumeration forms.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, enumeration forms have been distributed to all 3,38,26,004 voters. The election officials have also digitised 54.84 per cent of the enumeration forms.

Meanwhile, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has welcomed the decision of the Election Commission to extend the return of enumeration forms to BLOs by 10 days. The Hyderabad MP hopes that the Telangana government will issue the Family Register Certificate or Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) to the electors of Telangana, saying this will be a boon for poor people of the State.

Earlier, addressing a programme for distribution of books and school kits among students, Owaisi had appealed to people who have received enumeration forms to submit the filled-in forms to BLOs as early as possible and not to wait until the deadline.

Hyderabad, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said that his government was carrying forward the best policies of the previous government to attract more investments to the state.

The Chief Minister said that the government was carrying forward the policies introduced by previous regimes of Chandrababu Naidu (1994–2004) and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (2004–2014), as well as the BRS government from 2014 to December 2023.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the EV Cell Manufacturing facility of Amara Raja at the Amara Raja Giga Corridor in Divitipally, Mahbubnagar district.

He said the government is adopting best practices and policies from previous governments, as it does not want to suffer from policy paralysis.

He added that his government has introduced various policies mainly to promote industry, tourism, and health as part of the 'Telangana Rising 2047' initiative.

Stating that 'Telangana Rising' is unstoppable, he said the state government was improving infrastructure to attract more investment to the state. As infrastructure is crucial for establishing industries, the government was moving forward by formulating transparent policies, he said.

The CM noted that Telangana was contributing 5 per cent to the national GDP, which is not satisfactory. He said their goal is to increase Telangana's share of the national GDP to 10 per cent and transform Telangana into a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034 and a three-trillion-dollar economy by 2047.

Announcing that the state government was holding talks with the neighbouring state, CM Revanth Reddy said he would soon share good news with the people of Mahbubnagar district.

He said talks were already in progress to secure an allocation of 90 TMC of water for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and an allocation of 30 TMC of water for the Dindi project.

The Chief Minister stressed that the farmers who gave their land to the Amara Raja company should be provided jobs in the new EV cell manufacturing unit. The CM praised Amara Raja for drawing inspiration from China, Japan, Germany, and Korea.

He said it is a proud moment for Amara Raja to be competing with China in the EV sector.

He noted that 700 employees work at the Amara Raja unit in Divitipalli, of whom 400 are women, a testament to women's empowerment.

Expressing serious concern over increasing pollution and the threat of climate change, CM Revanth Reddy said rainfall is scarce due to the El Niño effect, causing difficulties for farmers.

He added that significant climatic changes have occurred since the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is a need to reduce pollution, and electric vehicles are essential for pollution control.
