Colombo, April 21 (IANS) Noted Indian Tamil actress Radikaa Sarathkumar had a narrow escape when she left one of the three hotels in the Sri Lankan capital just before it was bombed on Sunday.

Radikaa tweeted that she was staying at the Cinnamon Grand, located near the official residence of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister.

"OMG bomb blasts in SL, God be with all. I just left Cinnamon Grand hotel and it has been bombed. Can't believe this. Shocking," she tweeted.

Odds released on Thursday afternoon by Ladbrokes, one of Britain's largest betting firms, showed the "Remain" camp at 1/10 and "Leave" at 6/1, which would mean an 86-per cent likelihood of Britain remaining in the EU.

Odds from another betting company, Betfair, were similar with Remain at 2/13 and Leave at 6/1, again an 86 per cent likelihood of Remain winning, Xinhua reported.

Ladbrokes also revealed that heavy betting on Remain had taken place in the last 24 hours, with one million pounds ($1.48 million) bet.

Most of those bets are on Remain, with the average Remain bet at 400 pounds and the average Leave bet at 70 pounds.

Twitter users were posting many more tweets supporting an In result than an Out result.

Tweetgraph, a Twitter-tracking platform developed by digital agency Blueclaw, showed tweets backing Remain outnumbered tweets backing Leave by two to one.

"We're surprised by the strength and speed of the shift," said Blueclaw managing director Aidan Cook.

"The two camps have been in close competition in the build up to the vote. Suddenly, we're seeing a significant gap opening up; the online debate seems to have switched to terms concerned with ' Remain'," Cook added.

Polling stations for the referendum stay open until 10 p.m. local time with a result expected by 7:00 a.m. on Friday.

The release of the study coincides with the ongoing voting in a historic referendum on whether Britain should remain a member of the European Union or leave, Xinhua news agency reported.

Twitter users who support the Leave campaign were three times more likely to engage with people from both sides of the argument online than people who support the Remain campaign, the study shows, which was carried out by a team led by researchers from the Imperial College Business School.

The team tracked 21,000 messages sent from British Twitter users who were engaged in discussion about the EU Referendum using hashtags such as "#Brexit", "#LeaveEU", "#Go", "#Remain", etc.

They monitored both the topics in tweets to other users and the overall volume of Twitter traffic in relation to the EU Referendum across Britain, to get an insight into how polarised people's views are in the lead up to a major political event.

The most active users in the Leave group were shown to both engage in dialogue and provide information whereas people supporting Remain were more likely to just provide information to fellow users, according to the researchers.

London was the region with the highest amount of Twitter engagement on June 9, with a huge surge in online discussion between 8:00-10:00 p.m. local time during the ITV televised debate, the study shows.

"As people are consuming more of their political information from social networks and sites such as Twitter, there is an opportunity to use these sites to air views and influence public opinion, but people usually interact with others who think like they do," said Dr. Mark Kennedy, director of the Centre for Advanced Business Analytics at Imperial College Business School.

With the EU Referendum, however, "we are seeing that the greatest influence lies with people who are breaking out of that echo chamber pattern into a bolder, more opportunistic engagement of both sides -- leavers and remainers. For us, this is light at the end of the tunnel of polarised political discourse," said Kennedy.

"I don't know if I'm really looking for another relationship at the moment. I think it is really all about the work right now," Jonas said.

"I have literally had no time. I have been so busy, there has literally been zero time. Maybe at some point, but right now, it is full steam ahead," he added.

A division bench comprising Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari and Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to leave it to viewers to decide whether the film was defaming a state as the modern audiences were a mature lot.

The judges noted that all this was giving unnecessary publicity to the film and said people must be allowed to see what they want on television or cinema as "everybody has a choice". The CBFC must stick to certifying instead of censoring films, they said.

After completing the second day's hearing on a plea filed by "Udta Punjab" co-producers challenging the cuts recommended by CBFC, the judges said they would pronounce their verdict on June 13.

Earlier, the CBFC told the court that some of the scenes recommended for deletion in the film were "very vulgar" and the lyrics used in the songs were "offensive".

Citing examples, CBFC lawyer Advait Sethna said one dialogue, "zameen banjar toh aulad kanjar", was abusive and the word "kanjar" was used in an objectionable manner in the movie, which is about the drug menace in Punjab.

To this, the court pointed out that films do not run on such content and there must be a storyline and the modern audiences were mature enough.

Sethna further argued that the word "kanjar" showed the state in a poor light as Punjab was a highly productive state. He added that a dog in the film was named 'Jackie Chan'.

On Thursday, the court had noted that the film wants to save people from drugs and was not "made with a view to malign the state or its people".

Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Abhishek Chaubey, "Udta Punjab" stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

Kashyap accused CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani of bullying and deliberately not certifying the film slated for release on June 17.

While the CBFC at one point demanded 89 cuts in the film, its Revising Committee brought down the number to 13.

Among the scenes, the CBFC wants to be cut is one showing Shahid Kapoor urinating publicly during a song sequence. This the film makers don't mind chopping.

The row over "Udta Punjab" took a new turn after Nihalani suggested that Kashyap may have taken money from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to produce the movie ahead of the Punjab elections due next year.

At a press conference for his forthcoming film "TE3N" here, the 73-year-old actor was asked to comment on the controversy over "Udta Punjab" -- a movie on the festering drug menace in Punjab.

He said: "I am not quite aware of what the issue is. I have been reading about it. All I can say is that don't try and kill creativity. If you kill creativity, you kill the soul and that is all that we (artistes) have. That would be detrimental."

"I know that there are rules and regulations... That's something that the government has to decide. But as an artiste and a creative person, all I can say is that don't kill creativity."

Bachchan said if filmmakers are "dissatisfied", they can approach tribunal and the courts. He termed the delay as "unfortunate."

"But it is unfortunate that there is going to be a delay that they have to fight their way through the high court. In the past my films were denied release and we had to go to higher authorities. Eventually, creativity won. But yes delay was something that one had to cope with," he observed.

Further, when censorship issues crop up at the time of release and everything is set up (distribution, set up, publicity, theatres, publicity, marketing), then it's a set back, he said.

"If at that point of time there is an obstacle in the way in certification then it sets you back."

Rahul, whom Soma Banerjee wanted to be investigated for murder of her daughter, was granted anticipatory bail by the Bombay High Court on April 25.

A vacation bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy dismissed Banerjee's plea as withdrawn as it noted that there was no suicide note and the last conversation between Pratyusha and Rahul shows that even though they accuse each other, they also express "intense love" for each other.

If there is an absence of suicide note, the conversation reveals a "loving bond", the bench told counsel for Banerjee who said that only a custodial interrogation of Rahul can reveal the truth of her daughter's death.

Not accepting the plea for cancellation of anticipatory bail, the bench said that the preliminary investigation points to abetment of suicide and the probe was still in progress.

Urged that only custodial interrogation can establish the charge of murder, the bench, not impressed, asked if Maharashtra Police has filed any application challenging the grant of anticipatory bail and on being told they had not, dismissed the plea.

Rahul, who is alleged to had a live-in relationship with Pratyusha, has been booked under Section 306 (abetment of suicide), Section 504, Section 506 (criminal intimidation), and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police acted against Rahul following complaint by the deceased actress's parents.

Prosecution has alleged that on the day, Pratyusha committed suicide, he had left her Kandivili flat at around 3.30 p.m. and thereafter at 3.43 p.m., there was a call which lasted for about three and half minutes.

The Bombay High Court, before granting Rahul anticipatory bail, had heard the conversation after the public prosecutor had told it that the actress had allegedly hinted about her intention to commit suicide during the call.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the movie's co-producer, on Saturday took to social media to put an end to rumours surrounding the ban on the film.

“A film is banned only when examining, revising and (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) FCAT -- all three refuse certificate. And then you fight it out in Supreme Court.

“And due process takes it own time, so please abstain for spreading a BAN rumour. There is nothing to speak on the subject as of now. For the record, 'Udta Punjab' is not banned. The examining committee has deferred the decision to Revising and due process is on,” he tweeted.

According to multiple media reports, the country's Central Board of Film Certification gave a complete no-permit to release “Udta Punjab”, citing "excessive swearing, abusive language and drug consumption" in its content.

The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, is a story that revolves around drug abuse in north of Punjab and how the youth there have succumbed to it.

The Abhishek Chaubey directorial has been co-produced by Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl as part of their Phantom Films banner, along with Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Aman Gill and Sameer Nair.

Aman Gill, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd, shared: "To set the record straight, 'Udta Punjab' has not been banned. The examining committee has referred the decision to the Revising committee and the due process is on."

For the study, students at Augustana University analysed Twitter use by doctors across the US, going back to 2006. The researchers sorted through 4,500 users as part of their research.

"We just wanted to see how doctors are engaging with other people on Twitter,” one of the researchers, Paige Schwitters, was quoted as saying by Argus Leader, part of the US Today network.

The researchers found that the most followed Twitter accounts belonged to celebrities, public figures or TV personalities.

With 1.03 million followers in Twitter Asa Andrew, certified internist and self-declared addictionologist, emerged as the third most popular doctor in the US.

Gupta joined CNN in the summer of 2001 and he has 2.03 million followers in Twitter.

"Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, plays an integral role in CNN's reporting on health and medical news for all of CNN's shows domestically and internationally, and contributes to CNN.com,” according to his biography mentioned in CNN.

"His medical training and public health policy experience distinguishes his reporting from war zones and natural disasters, as well as on a range of medical and scientific topics, including the recent Ebola outbreak, brain injury, disaster recovery, health care reform, fitness, military medicine, and HIV/AIDS,” it added.

Gupta uses his Twitter account primarily for professional use, giving his opinions and medical advice, according to the study.

The 50-year-old actor also shared a photograph of the glass peices on the micro-blogging website, and posted: "Surgery went well! Nine pieces of glass embedded in my arm removed! Thank you for your love and good wishes."

The actor had delayed the surgery by 24 hours to complete the shoot.

"Kaabil" director Sanjay Gupta lauded Ronit's dedication towards his work and tweeted on Tuesday: "Dedication to work. Ronit Roy severely hurt his arm in an action sequence in 'Kaabil' and delayed surgery by 24 hours to complete the shoot."

Now, Ronit is resting and making the most of the time to appreciate nature's bounty.

He took to Instagram and posted an update about his health, writing: "Back home after the surgery. Resting today. Gives me time to appreciate the Gulmohar trees in full bloom from my window. Mother Nature comforting me."

"Kaabil", which is being produced by Rakesh Roshan under his banner FilmKraft Productions, is set to release on January 26 next year.

The film will open in the US on February 3 in select theatres with a wide release on February 10, reports variety.com.

Shooting began in Edinburgh on Monday with Boyle, who also directed the original. Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner and Robert Carlyle will reprise the roles of Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie, respectively.

The sequel, based on characters created by Irvine Welsh, also reunites Boyle with screenwriter John Hodge and all of the principal cast of the 1996 film.

Producers are Andrew Macdonald, Boyle, Christian Colson and Bernie Bellew through Figment Films, Decibel Films and Cloud Eight Films.

Sony said last year that it planned to release the film in 2017 to mark the 21st birthday of the original film.

Based on the novel of the same name by Welsh, the original Hodge screenplay received an Academy Award nomination. The story, set in the late 1980s, follows a group of heroin addicts in an economically depressed area of Edinburgh.

Rabiya Khan, who moved a plea in the Supreme Court through her lawyer Jayant Bhushan, said that the matter was being heard in an improper manner in the trial court in Mumbai.

"The honourable Supreme Court has understood it and directed the matter to be heard expeditiously in Bombay High Court. I have also requested for a Special Investigation Team to probe the case," Rabiya Khan told IANS.

She also informed the apex court that the matter was being heard without a special public prosecutor being assigned to the case.

In July 2014, the Bombay High Court had asked the the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe Jiah's death on June 3, 2013 at her Mumbai flat.

The development followed a plea filed by Rabiya Khan claiming shoddy probe by the Mumbai Police into the death of her daughter, an American citizen.

In its chargesheet filed in December 2015, the CBI had charged Jiah's former boyfriend, actor Sooraj Pancholi with abetment to suicide, which Rabiya had challenged.

Sooraj was arrested on charges of abetment of suicide on June 10, 2013 and released on bail on July 2, 2013.

In her short film career, Jiah created a sensation in Bollywood with her bold roles in movies including "Nishabd", "Housefull" and "Ghajini".

At a conference in the provincial capital of Edmonton on Friday, Trudeau said that despite having seen updates and images on TV, the scale and scope of what happened hit him hard during the tour of the affected region.

"The rebels were nabbed from Pynursla while they were proceeding towards their hideouts in Bangladesh after they failed to carry out a bomb blast in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya," M.Kharkrang, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, told IANS.

Among the four rebels, Kharkrang said the Special Operation Team also nabbed a senior ULFA-I rebel Bikhat Ahom of Assam's Bongaigaon area.

Ahom is a bomb expert and is wanted by Assam police for several bombings and other criminal activities in Assam.

"The arrest of the four rebels is a major catch for us since they were planning to carry out terror attacks in the city," Kharkrang said.

The Special Operation Team commandos seized two rifles, pistols and cache of improvised explosive device weighing around 10 kg each from the vehicle in which they were travelling.

"We are interrogating the four arrested rebels to find out if they had hidden more bombs and about their associates in Shillong," the police officer said.

The HNLC is a secessionist group fighting for a sovereign Khasi homeland in eastern part of Meghalaya.
