Imphal, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level security meeting and decided to take stringent action against any individual, irrespective of community, found in possession of illegal arms and weapons, officials said.

A senior official of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that the meeting, which was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Thursday evening, was held following the 15-day ultimatum given earlier by the Chief Minister on August 12 asking individuals possessing any type of illegal weapons to surrender them.

The official added that the meeting discussed in detail Thursday's unfortunate incident along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, in which four innocent civilians were gunned down mercilessly.

"The Government condemned the incident in the strongest terms. The Chief Minister instructed the security officials to nab and initiate action against the perpetrators of the crime," an official statement said.

It added that the meeting decided to take stringent action against any individual, irrespective of community, found in possession of illegal arms and weapons.

Additionally, the meeting also decided that cadres of the militant outfits under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) with the government or peace talks with the government carrying weapons beyond their designated camps would be dealt seriously and face action, the statement said.

The high-level security meeting was attended by Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel; Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, Joint Secretary (Northeast) of Ministry of Home Affairs, Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence/Law and Order) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, State Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar were present in the crucial meeting.

Among the Central forces, Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), Deputy General Officer Commending 57th Mountain Division, Joint Director of SIB and senior officers of BSF and SSB and other security agencies also attended the meeting.

The meeting assumes significance after the four members of the Liangmai Naga community, including the Principal of a private school, were killed and another person injured in an ambush by armed militants in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday.

Different Naga organisations, including the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of the Naga people in Manipur, claimed that two to three armed Kuki militants attacked innocent Naga civilians between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga, an area that serves as a vital lifeline for Naga communities living along the IT Road.

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kerala Transport Minister C.P. John has sought a report from the Transport Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam following the death by suicide of a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver in Malappuram, who had blamed the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) for allegedly obstructing his livelihood by repeatedly denying a fitness certificate for his vehicle.

Shoukath, a native of Mundamparamba in Kizhisseri, was found dead at his home on Thursday.

Shortly before his death, he had posted a lengthy message on Facebook alleging harassment and corruption within the MVD and holding the department responsible for his death.

Shoukath alleged that he had been denied a fitness certificate because he chose to approach the Kondotty Sub-Regional Transport Office directly rather than through an agent.

According to his social media post, he had spent nearly 10 months visiting MVD offices and agents seeking fitness for his auto.

Unable to operate the vehicle, which he said was his sole means of livelihood, Shoukath claimed that he fell into serious financial difficulties and defaulted on the loan taken for the vehicle.

He said his credit score had fallen from 820 to 600 as a result.

"My death is solely the responsibility of the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department. They destroyed my means of livelihood for the sole reason that I did not pay a bribe," he alleged in the social media post.

Shoukath also expressed apprehension that any investigation into his death could allow officials to escape accountability by claiming that his vehicle was unfit because of modifications involving steel work.

He said that the same MVD had allegedly issued fitness certificates for the vehicle on two earlier occasions.

His most serious allegation was directed at what he described as the agent system within the MVD.

He claimed that the agent system was the main source of corruption in the department and said that eliminating it could end a large part of the alleged corruption.

Appealing for intervention by senior government authorities and the High Court, Shoukath also urged people to use the Right to Information Act to fight corruption and understand how government systems function.

The allegations have triggered protests among motor workers' organisations and local residents, who have demanded strict action against officials if the allegations are found to be true and called for the agent system to be abolished.

Police have begun an investigation into the death.

The Transport Minister's decision to seek a report is the first official response from the government to the allegations.

The incident has brought renewed scrutiny on the functioning of the state's vehicle-testing and certification system, particularly the role allegedly played by intermediaries in dealings between vehicle owners and MVD offices.

Agartala, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that the state government has initiated all-out efforts to uncover the truth behind the death of state Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, asserting that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in any wrongdoing.

Making a statement on the first day of the Monsoon session of the Tripura Assembly on Thursday, Chief Minister Saha, who also holds the Home department portfolio, said that the state police have launched an extensive investigation into the death of the senior IPS officer.

He said the probe is being closely monitored by Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Manchak Ipper.

The Chief Minister said that the investigating team had already visited Delhi in connection with the probe.

"The team would examine the post-mortem and forensic reports, digital evidence, mobile call records, various electronic devices, CCTV footage, documents and other relevant materials to ascertain the circumstances and reasons behind the DGP's death," CM Saha told the House.

"If anyone is found to have committed any illegal act in connection with the DGP's death, strict action would be taken as per law," the Chief Minister said.

He urged all concerned not to indulge in speculation over the sensitive matter before the completion of the investigation.

The Tripura Assembly, however, witnessed heated exchanges on Thursday over the death of the state police chief, with Opposition Congress and CPI-M members accusing the state government of not allowing a discussion on the issue.

The body of Anurag, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, was found under mysterious circumstances in the washroom attached to his official chamber at the state police headquarters here on July 20.

Anurag had taken charge as Tripura's DGP on May 17, 2025.

Before assuming office as the state's police chief, he had served as the Director General of Police (Intelligence) in Tripura.

Following the incident, the Acting DGP G.S. Rao on July 24 constituted a three-member team, led by West Tripura district Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak, to investigate the "mysterious" death of the senior police officer.

SP Pathak later reconstituted the investigating team with 10 members under his leadership.

Besides West Tripura Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban) Dhruba Nath, and Tripura Police Crime Branch Additional Superintendent of Police Souvik De, the Officers-in-Charge of the Cyber Crime Police Station, Amtali Police Station and West Agartala Women Police Station, along with the In-charges of the Battala and Ramnagar Outposts, are members of the reconstituted team.

An Inspector of the KTD Singh Police Training Academy and the previous Investigating Officer, Subhojit Deb, are also members of the investigation team, according to an official order.

The Opposition Congress, CPI-M, CPI and several other political parties have, since July 20, been demanding a judicial inquiry monitored by a sitting judge of the Tripura High Court to determine the circumstances and reasons behind the death of the state's senior-most IPS officer.

The Left parties and the Congress had earlier organised separate protest rallies in Tripura, demanding a High Court-monitored judicial investigation into the incident.

Anurag's tenure as Tripura Director General of Police was scheduled to continue until May 17, 2027.

Bhavnagar, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Gujarat Police's State Monitoring Cell (SMC) has traced the source of methanol allegedly used to manufacture the poisonous liquor involved in the Bhavnagar hooch tragedy to Delhi, with three more suspects arrested in the national capital and the total number of arrests rising to 31, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, the SMC established during its investigation that Delhi resident Pramodkumar Budakoti allegedly supplied the methanol illegally to two other Delhi residents, Rohit Pradhan and Keshav Jatav.

The latter two allegedly arranged for the chemical to be transported through other accused to a transport company godown in Ahmedabad.

With assistance from the Delhi Police, SMC teams arrested all three men. "The process of securing transit remand and bringing them to Gujarat is currently underway," police said.

The latest arrests are part of an investigation into the manufacture and distribution of methanol-laced spurious liquor in Bhavnagar district that claimed 13 lives.

Police said they have now arrested 31 accused in the case. The investigation began on August 18 after an accidental death case was registered within the jurisdiction of Vartej Police Station.

Police subsequently established that poisonous liquor containing methanol was involved and registered a case against 21 accused under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Gujarat Prohibition Act.

On the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) G S Malik, the investigation was handed over to the SMC, with Police Inspector S M Jadeja taking charge.

To trace the contaminated liquor and prevent further loss of life, the SMC formed multiple teams to identify people to whom the liquor had been supplied.

Sixteen teams were deployed across Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and different districts of Gujarat to identify accused, make arrests and collect evidence.

Investigators specifically focused on tracing the origin of methanol and other chemicals, the transporters involved in moving them and the route through which the chemicals reached Gujarat.

The investigation subsequently led police to the alleged Delhi-based supplier and the two men who allegedly received the methanol before it was transported to Ahmedabad.

Police said tracing this part of the supply chain was a breakthrough in establishing the source of the chemical used to manufacture the poisonous liquor.

The tragedy came to light after people who had consumed the suspected liquor in and around Kharakdi village in Ghogha taluka fell seriously ill.

The liquor was allegedly prepared using toxic chemicals and distributed through a wider network.

An earlier investigation found that the suspected liquor had been sold in bottles bearing stickers resembling the 'Royal Stag' brand—chemical analysis of a seized bottle recorded 38.59 per cent methanol and 0.94 per cent ethanol.

Police have also taken disciplinary action against seven personnel accused of negligence in connection with the incident.

The SMC is continuing its investigation into the wider network, including the procurement of chemicals, their transportation to Gujarat, manufacture of the poisonous liquor and its subsequent distribution.

Police said further arrests are possible as investigators follow the supply chain and gather additional evidence.

Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh), Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) An amount of Rs 11.98 lakh in suspected unaccounted cash was seized from a car during a checking operation on the Padampur Road in Basna in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund, police said on Thursday.

Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh), Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Four alleged drug traffickers were arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district after police seized 170.75 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 85 lakh, which had been concealed beneath broken glass and waste in a mini truck, officials said on Thursday.

Acting on specific intelligence, Mahasamund police intercepted the suspicious mini truck near Maharaja Dhaba in Birkoni on National Highway 353 on Wednesday. At first glance, the vehicle appeared to be carrying broken glass and waste, said the police. However, a detailed search led to the recovery of 170.75 kg of ganja concealed underneath the material.

Police said the accused had allegedly adopted the unusual method to evade checking and make the consignment appear to be ordinary waste.

According to police, the mini truck was being driven by Ankit Kumar Yadav, 25, a resident of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, he allegedly revealed that three other associates were following the truck in a Swift car.

Police subsequently intercepted the car and arrested Santosh Gupta, 60, of Bhadohi, Avinash Singh, 43, of Varanasi, and Shyam Prakash Soni, 37, also of Varanasi.

According to police, the accused were allegedly transporting the ganja from Boudhgarh in Odisha to Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh for supply.

The police seized the ganja along with the mini truck valued at Rs 10 lakh, the Swift car valued at Rs 2 lakh, a Nokia keypad mobile phone, and Rs 3,670 in cash. The total value of the seized property, including the contraband, was estimated at Rs 97.03 lakh.

A case has been registered at Mahasamund police station under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.
Imphal, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manipur Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh on Thursday firmly announced that those responsible for killing four Naga community members in Kangpokpi district would face the full force of the law, and warned that anyone attempting to obstruct or derail the peace process would not be spared.

At least four members of the Liangmai Naga community, including the Principal of a private school, were killed and another person injured in the ambush by armed militants in Kangpokpi.

Strongly condemning the attack, the Home Minister, in a statement, said that the senseless violence has caused deep anguish among the Naga community and peace-loving people of Manipur and strikes at the collective efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-hit state.

"Those responsible will face the full force of law. Anyone attempting to obstruct or derail the peace process will not be spared," he said.

The Home Minister expressed his deep anguish over the tragic attack on innocent Naga civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi.

"My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," he said in the statement.

Konthoujam Singh urged all community leaders, civil society organisations and his Naga brothers and sisters to maintain peace and exercise restraint in the wake of the tragic incident.

"Justice will be pursued firmly, while peace and unity must prevail. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace," he stated.

Meanwhile, soon after the incident in the hilly district, Central and state security forces launched a massive combing operation to nab the suspected militants responsible for the killings.

Kangpokpi is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community, though members of the Naga community also live in different parts of the trouble-torn district.

The Naga organisations strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against those responsible for the killings, describing the incident as a serious threat to peace and communal harmony in the region.

The victims were identified as Wisobou Charenamai, Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, Mariakdibou Wijunamai, and Anil Wijunamai. Ringkangmai was the founder and Principal of Right Path School, a private educational institution, while Charenamai was the Chairman of the Chawangkining Village Authority and a former Vice-President of a local organisation.

The incident has triggered widespread concern among various Naga organisations, while the security forces intensified their search and combing operations in and around the area to trace and apprehend those involved in the deadly ambush.

Ahmedabad, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Thursday arrested three people from Ahmedabad and Lucknow for allegedly procuring, distributing and selling counterfeit blood-pressure medicine through an interstate network, with the investigation tracing the supply chain from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to medical outlets in Gujarat.

The arrests followed a complaint by J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd to the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) on August 19 over the alleged circulation of counterfeit NICARDIA RETARD 10 (Nifedipine Sustained Release Tablets IP 10mg), bearing batch number ACG25007, manufactured in June 2025 and expiring in May 2028.

The company subsequently complained to the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, following which Crime Branch and FDCA teams began a joint investigation.

Investigators found that the suspected counterfeit stock had reached Ahmedabad through Parshva Medical Agency in the Paldi area, which had allegedly received it from Sena Medical in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The probe also established a link to A.V.R. Medicos in Jaipur in connection with stock found in Kutch. During the investigation, officials seized 30 strips of the specified NICARDIA RETARD 10 batch from Kishan Medical Store in Nadiad.

The team also recovered the medicine from Navkar Medical Agency and Mahadev Medical Agency in Bhuj.

Earlier FDCA action had involved inspections at more than 30 medical stores and agencies and the seizure of suspected counterfeit NICARDIA RETARD 10 tablets.

According to the Crime Branch, the accused allegedly used the name, labels and batch details of the genuine product to manufacture tablets that could be difficult to distinguish from the original.

The complaint alleged that those involved knew that such medicines could cause serious harm or death but supplied them for financial gain.

Police arrested three people on August 26 at around 9:45 p.m.: Darshil Sanghavi, 39, of Paldi, Ahmedabad; Devendra Yadav, 39, of Lucknow; and Umang Rastogi, 34, also of Lucknow.

Police allege that Sanghavi procured counterfeit stock and supplied it to sub-distributors in Ahmedabad and other cities.

Devendra allegedly purchased counterfeit medicines at discounted prices. He arranged their supply to Gujarat, while Umang allegedly procured medicines from sellers and earned commissions by facilitating their supply and sale in Gujarat.

Police said Devendra and Umang had previously been arrested in June in a duplicate-medicine case registered at Vishramnagar Police Station in Pune.

Umang also has a September 2022 case under the GST Act. According to the Crime Branch, Sanghavi has no reported criminal history.

An FIR was registered at DCB Police Station under Sections 276, 277, 316(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338, 339, 340(2), 341(1), 111, 49 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Police teams have been sent to Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and other districts to trace other people allegedly involved in manufacturing and distributing the counterfeit medicines. The investigation is continuing.

The Crime Branch has appealed to medical stores, agencies, hospitals and patients who may have received the suspected counterfeit medicine from the arrested accused or their network to contact the investigating officer.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested in Odisha an absconding former postal official linked to a Rs 13.98 lakh fraud involving money saved by depositors in post offices, an official said.

Shabda Swain, the then Branch Post Master at Odisha's Bonda was taken into custody from Bargarh (Odisha) for alleged involvement in the post office savings fraud case dating back to 2015, the CBI said in a statement.

The accused during her posting as Branch Post Master of Bonda Post Office during the period 2008 to 2014, misappropriated Rs 13.98 lakh collected from depositors by not accounting the deposits in the official records by making false entries in the passbooks.

The accused was absconding since framing of charges on December 31, 2015, in the CBI's ACB filed by Bhubaneswar Branch in a regular case.

Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against her was issued in 2022.

After sustained and persistent efforts by CBI, she has been apprehended while she came to attend a family function at Bargarh in Odisha. She was produced before the competent court in Bhubaneswar after arrest.

In a separate case, a Special CBI Court sentenced a former bank branch manager to five-year sentence in a bribe case.

The case was registered by the CBI on March 12, 2018, against Rakesh Chandra Thakur, the then Branch Manager of Baroda UP Gramin Bank's Hariharpur Branch in Sultanpur.

A complainant alleged that Thakur demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 6,000 from the complainant for disbursing the first instalment of his Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan of Rs 4.25 lakh, the CBI said.

The central probe agency laid a trap and caught the accused Thakur red-handed while demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 6,000 from the complainant.

After completion of investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet on May 10, 2018, and charges were framed on December 21, 2020, against Thakur.

On August 25, Special CBI Judge of Anti-Corruption Court in Lucknow sentenced Thakur to a rigorous imprisonment for five years with a fine of Rs 25,000, a statement said.

Patna, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major anti-corruption operation on Thursday, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested Kanchan Kumari Jha, Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR) of Rosera in Samastipur district, allegedly while accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe to settle a land dispute.

The operation was conducted at her government residence in Rosera.

According to the allegations, a land dispute involving Manoj Kumar Mahto of Vibhutipur was pending before the DCLR.

Jha allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh in cash and a washing machine in exchange for resolving the matter in the complainant's favour.

After receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Department reportedly verified the allegations before conducting the trap operation.

At around 9 a.m. on Thursday, the complainant accompanied Vigilance officials to the DCLR's residence, where Jha was allegedly caught accepting the Rs 2 lakh.

Following the arrest, Vigilance officials secured the government residence and conducted an extensive search of the premises.

Documents, cupboards and other materials were examined as part of the investigation.

Reports also indicated that approximately Rs 13 lakh in cash was recovered during the search.

However, this recovery remains subject to official confirmation by the Vigilance Department.

Officials are examining the source of the cash and other documents recovered from the residence.

Rosera police personnel were also present outside the premises while the Vigilance team continued its search and documentation.

A crowd gathered outside the residence after news of the operation spread, but the area was secured to protect the investigation and evidence.

Kanchan Kumari Jha, originally from Madhubani district, has served as Rosera DCLR for around one-and-a- half years.

The DCLR plays an important role in Bihar's revenue administration, particularly in hearing land-related disputes and appeals.

Her arrest over an alleged bribe demand has caused a stir among administrative circles in Samastipur.

The Vigilance Department is continuing its investigation into the alleged bribery transaction, the cash reportedly recovered during the search and other documents found at the official residence.

Kolkata, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Eastern Railway (ER) has launched a massive drive against reels created by trespassing on railway tracks. Under instructions from General Manager Gitika Pandey, the IG-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner of ER, Amiya Nandan Sinha, has directed strict legal enforcement across all divisions to curb unauthorised track movement and risky social media stunts.

In the three months from May 1, 2026, to July 31, 2026, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of ER cracked down heavily on offenders under Section 147 of the Railways Act. A total of 828 prosecution cases were registered across the Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol and Malda divisions. Security personnel detected 813 cases and arrested 853 individuals.

In addition, 6,608 penalty cases were registered, with court fines amounting to Rs 3,18,220 and penalties totalling Rs 33,12,900.

The Asansol division recorded 152 prosecution cases, 152 detected cases, 156 persons arrested, 561 penalty cases, Rs 90,900 in fines, and Rs 2,82,000 in penalties.

Howrah recorded 96 prosecution cases, 96 detected cases, 97 arrests, 3,468 penalty cases, Rs 51,320 in fines, and Rs 17,33,900 in penalties. Malda recorded 298 prosecution cases, 288 detected cases, 300 arrests, 1,145 penalty cases, Rs 37,500 in fines, and Rs 5,78,500 in penalties. Sealdah recorded 282 prosecution cases, 277 detected cases, 300 arrests, 1,434 penalty cases, Rs 1,38,500 in fines, and Rs 7,18,500 in penalties.

While the enforcers continue their vigil, authorities have emphasised that strict legal action alone cannot solve the problem without self-awareness and responsible behaviour from the public.

Trespassing on railway tracks by passengers and nearby residents has long been an issue. The situation has worsened as several social media content creators have entered the tracks to create reels.

“In an effort to create sensational videos, such people often get close to running trains, landing in life-threatening situations. Railway tracks are designated operational transport corridors; they are neither pedestrian shortcuts nor sets for clicking photographs and filming social media reels. A single moment of distraction or misjudgement on the tracks can take away a precious life forever,” a senior official said.

It is not technically possible for a loco-pilot or motorman to stop a train within a short distance after spotting somebody on the tracks, the official added.

People have no reason to move on the tracks, as ER has constructed extensive infrastructure, including a continuous series of Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), Road Over Bridges (ROBs), and Road Under Bridges (RUBs).

“No social media video or shortcut is worth risking your life. We earnestly request everyone to use designated bridges and crossings, because your safety is our utmost priority,” ER CPRO Shibram Majhi said.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Taking fresh action in a Rs 160 crore bank loan fraud, the ED seized Rs 43.90 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 12.20 crore and froze bank accounts of Bilpower Limited during searches at seven residential/business premises of the company in Mumbai and Vadodara, an official said on Thursday.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Mumbai Zonal Office, conducted the search operations on Tuesday. During the operation, officials also froze two bank accounts holding Rs 27 lakh under Section 17(1A) of the PMLA, 2002, along with three bank lockers, an official statement said.

The action was taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and involved seven premises and three bank lockers in a case involving loan fraud by Bilpower Limited.

The ED initiated the investigation based on an FIR registered by the CBI, Delhi, following a complaint filed by the State Bank of India.

Subsequently, the CBI filed a chargesheet dated September 30, 2024 against Bilpower Limited, its directors and associate companies.

The ED said it was alleged that Bilpower Limited had availed loan facilities from the State Bank of India and fraudulently diverted the loan proceeds and manipulated its books of accounts, causing a loss of Rs 160.55 crore to the bank.

Bilpower Limited, which manufactures transformer laminations and cores, was managed by Rajendra Kumar Chaudhary, Suresh Kumar Chaudhary and Nareshkumar Chaudhary, the ED said.

Since 2005, the company had banking arrangements with the State Bank of India, including Cash Credit, Working Capital Term Loan, Funded Interest Term Loan, Corporate Loan and non-fund-based facilities such as Bank Guarantee, Letter of Credit and Foreign Currency Exposure, the ED said.

The loan account became a non-performing asset on April 18, 2012, with a principal outstanding of Rs 160.55 crore, it said.

The investigation revealed that Bilpower Limited was involved in transactions with certain shell/bogus firms, allegedly used to divert and round-trip bank funds. Letters of Credit (LCs) were allegedly devolved in favour of these entities, with forged documents allegedly submitted and used as genuine, the ED said.

The funds were diverted to various entities controlled by members of the Choudhary family or their associates, it said.

The searches on Tuesday also led to the identification and recovery of documents relating to assets, including immovable properties, land and machinery. The ED also recovered and seized other incriminating documents, books of accounts and ledgers, and digital devices, it said.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The ED searched seven residential and business premises of real estate firm Vatika Limited in the Delhi-NCR region and seized three high-end luxury vehicles, jewellery and froze bank accounts/securities worth nearly Rs 33 crore in a case related to an over Rs 100 crore fraud with home and office plot buyers, an official said on Thursday.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Gurugram Zonal Office, conducted search operations on August 25 against the company and its officials in a money laundering matter linked to alleged fraudulent inducement, non-delivery of residential plots, and other related offences, the ED said in a statement.

The raids were conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, at premises linked to Vatika Limited and its promoter-directors, it said.

The ED had earlier recorded an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the PMLA, 2002, against Vatika Limited, its promoter-directors, namely Anil Bhalla, Gautam Bhalla and Gaurav Bhalla, and others.

The ECIR was based on multiple FIRs registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Delhi Police, under various Sections of the IPC, 1860, alleging fraudulent inducement, non-delivery of residential plots to home and plot buyers, and other related offences, the ED said.

The investigation conducted so far has prima facie revealed a common pattern in transactions relating to the projects "Vatika India Next" and "Vatika India Next-2", wherein substantial amounts were received upfront from complainants towards allotment and sale of residential plots. Still, a significant portion of the promised plots was not delivered even after multiple deadlines lapsed, the ED said.

Against Rs 260.30 Crore received from the victim entities between 2010 and 2012, plots worth approximately Rs 120 crore were delivered. However, the remaining plots were not delivered even after 14 years, despite several attempts by the victim entities to obtain them, the ED said.

The investigation has also revealed the involvement of various land-owning/group entities and key persons associated with the Vatika Group. Further, in the same project, the accused persons have also clandestinely sold 14 plots to third parties without taking due consent from the victim company.

During the search operations, the team recovered and seized various incriminating documents and digital devices, including property-related documents about the promoters and directors of Vatika Limited, audited financial statements, Tally data, records relating to the movement/diversion of funds, and details of funds received from the complainants.

Further, the ED also seized/froze three high-end luxury vehicles, jewellery, and bank accounts/securities with an aggregate value of approximately Rs 33 crore under the PMLA, 2002.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The NCW constituted a five-member fact-finding team to examine the reported evil practice of 'buying and selling of brides' in the Mewat region, particularly in Nuh district of Haryana, an official said on Thursday.

Highlighting concerns over alleged trafficking and exploitation of brides, National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said, “A woman cannot be bought, sold or treated as a commodity in the name of marriage. Marriage is a relationship of dignity and equality, not a transaction.”

She said the five-member team will be headed by former Director General, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and retired IPS officer P.M. Nair.

The fact-finding team has been asked to submit its report to the Commission within 10 working days of its constitution, along with recommendations to prevent the recurrence of such practices and strengthen safeguards for women affected by them.

An NCW statement said that locally referred to as ‘Paro’ or ‘Molki’, it is a practice in which women, often from economically vulnerable communities in other states, are brought through intermediaries and married to men in the region, allegedly involving monetary transactions with brokers or the woman’s family.

The Commission has taken cognisance of reports alleging that women are brought to the region and married off in exchange for money. The inquiry is aimed at establishing facts and identifying systemic gaps that may allow the exploitation of women to continue.

In some reported cases, women are allegedly resold and subjected to repeated abuse and exploitation, raising serious concerns over inter-state trafficking and violations of their rights, dignity and safety, said the statement.

Other members of the fact-finding team are B.K. Sinha, IPS (Retd.), former Director General of Police, Haryana; Seema Singh, Associate Professor, Delhi University; Tripti Bhoir, filmmaker and actor; and Manmohan Verma, Law Officer, NCW.

The fact-finding team will examine the prevalence, nature and functioning of the ‘Paro/Molki’ practice, including the role of intermediaries and possible trafficking networks operating across state borders, said the NCW statement.

It will also look into concerns relating to legal identity, inheritance and other entitlements of women, violence and exploitation, child marriage, social stigma and access to justice and State services, it said.

The panel will undertake an on-the-spot inquiry in Nuh/Mewat and other locations, as considered necessary, and interact with survivors, local residents, police and civil administration officials, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

Rahatkar said the concerns surrounding ‘Paro’ or ‘Molki’ marriages are serious and require a fact-based examination.

She said, “The NCW will ensure that the voices, rights and dignity of women affected by this practice are not overlooked. If trafficking, exploitation or systemic failures are found, the Commission will recommend firm and effective measures to prevent their recurrence.”

Bengaluru, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) A shocking incident of a woman police Constable allegedly being brutally assaulted with an iron rod at the Majestic Railway Police Station in Bengaluru in the early hours of August 26 came to light on Thursday. The Constable, identified as 28-year-old D. Shilpa (PC-147), is reportedly pregnant and sustained serious head injuries in the attack.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Gajendra, had approached the railway police station at around 4 a.m. on August 26 to lodge a complaint about a missing mobile phone.

As no other staff members were present at the station at the time, Shilpa, who was deputed on night duty, allegedly told him that the concerned personnel were unavailable and asked him to return later in the morning to lodge a complaint about his missing mobile phone.

The accused initially left the station but returned shortly afterwards. Police said the angry young man then picked up an iron rod kept on the barricade and attacked Shilpa, who was seated inside the police station.

The accused allegedly struck her on the head several times, with police sources stating that she was hit around seven to eight times. Her colleagues immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital after hearing the commotion.

Shilpa initially received treatment at Manipal Hospital and was later shifted to Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar. She is currently undergoing treatment for severe head injuries.

Railway Police have arrested Gajendra in connection with the assault. A case has been registered at the Bengaluru City Railway Police Station under Sections 109 and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police are investigating the motive behind the attack and the circumstances that led to the accused returning to the station and assaulting the Constable.

The police have registered a case under Sections 132, 109 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Shilpa has stated that during the attack, the youth looked like he wanted to finish her off and send out a message to police personnel.

The accused man spoke in Hindi while attacking her and shouted "Why won't you take my complaint? I will kill you if you won't carry out your duties."

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi Police have opposed the bail pleas of jailed student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam before the Delhi High Court, describing them as “masterminds” of the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 northeast Delhi riots and contending that their fresh pleas were not maintainable in view of the Supreme Court’s January 5 order.

In separate replies filed in the High Court, the Delhi Police said the two accused had been placed in a “qualitatively different” category from other co-accused and that the Supreme Court had already identified their alleged roles as involving “command authority” and strategic direction in the conspiracy.

The Delhi Police argued that their present bail proceedings were “misconceived and illegal” and amounted to an abuse of the process of law, as the Supreme Court had already prescribed the circumstances in which Khalid and Imam could renew their bail pleas.

“The present bail proceedings are misconceived and illegal in view of the following grounds... the present appellant is one of the ‘masterminds’ of the Delhi riots,” the replies said.

The prosecution relied heavily on the Supreme Court’s January 5 judgment in Gulfisha Fatima vs. State (Govt. of NCT of Delhi), in which the apex court had rejected the bail pleas of Khalid and Imam while granting relief to five other accused.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s assessment of the prosecution material, the police said the alleged masterminds were supported by “direct, corroborative, and contemporaneous evidence”, including recoveries, digital communication trails and statements indicating managerial responsibility.

“The alleged masterminds are stated to have exercised command authority and to possess the ability to mobilise or influence individuals within and outside their immediate circle,” the Delhi Police quoted the Supreme Court as having observed.

The police further said the apex court had found the “risk profiles” of the accused to be “markedly dissimilar”, thereby justifying their continued detention.

It contended that this finding prevented Khalid and Imam from relying on bail orders granted to other co-accused in the same case. The replies also relied upon the operative directions issued by the Supreme Court on January 5, under which Khalid and Imam were permitted to renew their bail pleas after the completion of examination of the protected witnesses relied upon by the prosecution or upon expiry of one year from the date of the judgment, whichever was earlier.

The police said the present appeals had been filed before either of those circumstances had arisen. “The present bail proceedings, having been filed before the examination of the protected witnesses or expiry of one year from the date of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order (i.e., before 05.01.2027) are in teeth of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s binding directions,” the replies said.

It added that the Supreme Court had itself provided the “change in circumstances” that would enable Khalid and Imam to renew their bail pleas and had defined the point at which such applications would become maintainable.

The Delhi Police also opposed reliance placed by the accused on the Supreme Court’s subsequent judgment in Syed Iftikhar Andrabi vs. NIA, saying the decision concerned an unrelated case and could not override the specific findings and directions passed in Khalid and Imam’s own case.

“The judgment of a co-ordinate bench in a different case... cannot override the specific findings and directions passed by the Hon’ble Court in the Appellant’s own case,” the replies said.

The police highlighted that the Syed Iftikhar Andrabi judgment did not deal with the Delhi riots case or the alleged role of Khalid and Imam. It also said that the factual findings in the Gulfisha Fatima decision, including the applicability of Section 43D(5) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), had not been doubted in the subsequent judgment.

It similarly rejected the accused’s reliance on the Supreme Court’s May 22 interim order in Tasleem Ahmed vs. State (NCT of Delhi), by which the divergence concerning the application of the UAPA bail restrictions and prolonged incarceration was referred to a larger Bench.

According to the Delhi Police, the mere reference of a legal issue to a larger Bench did not unsettle the law declared in the earlier judgment. It relied on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Union Territory of Ladakh vs. Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, which held that “mere reference to a larger Bench does not unsettle declared law”.

The police further referred to the apex court’s observation that High Courts were required to decide matters on the basis of the law as it stood and could not refuse to follow a judgment merely because its correctness had subsequently been doubted by a coordinate Bench.

“In any case, when faced with conflicting judgments by Benches of equal strength of this Court, it is the earlier one which is to be followed by the High Courts,” the Delhi Police said, quoting the Supreme Court.

The replies were filed in appeals challenging the July 4 orders of the Karkardooma trial court dismissing the third regular bail applications of Khalid and Imam in FIR No. 59 of 2020 registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.

The Delhi Police urged the High Court to dismiss both appeals at the threshold, terming the proceedings an "abuse of the process of law".

Khalid has also sought interim bail before the Delhi High Court, relying on the issue of prolonged incarceration and the reference pending before the Supreme Court on the interplay between Article 21 and the stringent bail restrictions under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA.

The Delhi High Court had on July 31 issued notice to the Delhi Police on Khalid’s appeal and his interim bail plea and listed it along with Imam’s appeal for August 27. However, the hearing has now been deferred as August 27 has been declared a holiday, with the matters likely to be taken up on Monday.

The case relates to the alleged larger conspiracy behind the communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020.

Khalid and Imam are among several accused booked under the UAPA and other penal provisions and have remained in custody for several years.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court declined to grant bail to Khalid and Imam while granting bail to five other co-accused, including Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmed.

More recently, the apex court granted six months' interim bail to co-accused Tasleem Ahmed and Khalid Saifi while referring to a larger Bench the question of whether prolonged incarceration and delay in trial could justify the grant of bail despite the restrictions under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA.

Ujjain (MP), Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) An old rivalry between two groups linked to the Karni Sena turned deadly when two men were killed in a late-night clash at a dhaba in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, the police said on Thursday.

The violence broke out around Wednesday mid-night at Lucky Darbar Dhaba in Kanipura area following an argument between the two sides.

According to police, the situation escalated after one side allegedly called for reinforcements. Around 12 to 15 armed men reportedly arrived at the spot and attacked members of the rival group with knives and swords.

Rahul Darbar alias Vijay Pratap, 42, a resident of Neemanwasa, and Jitendra Pawar, 35, who operated the dhaba and lived in Undasa.

Rahul suffered serious injuries in the attack and was taken to a private hospital, where he died during treatment. Jitendra’s body was later found in bushes a short distance from the dhaba, the police said.

The sequence of events is being reconstructed on the basis of statements of the injured and others present at the spot.

Rahul's maternal uncle Hemant Singh Chauhan told the police that Rahul's younger brother had received a call from one Shakti Singh around 11 pm, warning him to "save your brother if you can".

The family members subsequently reached the dhaba and found Rahul injured.

Jammu, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested three more suspects, including the key perpetrator, in connection with the rape and death of a 15-year-old tribal girl in Kishtwar district last week, the police confirmed on Thursday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Naresh Singh, stated that the newly arrested individuals include a government school teacher accused of repeated sexual assault, his brother, and a daily-wager sweeper at District Hospital Kishtwar.

The minor girl allegedly died on August 20 following an abortion attempt in Chatroo area of the district.

The SSP said two of the accused have been identified as Mohd Ishaq and Riyaz Ahmed Sheikh, while the identity of the daily-wage sweeper is yet to be available.

According to the police, the minor was allegedly repeatedly raped by the teacher over several months, resulting in her pregnancy.

The Chatroo police received information about the girl's suspicious death on August 20. As no formal complaint had initially been received, the police began inquest proceedings to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

"During the course of the inquest, material disclosing the commission of cognizable offences surfaced," the SSP said.

The proceedings were subsequently converted into an FIR at Chatroo police station.

The FIR was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to rape and death caused by miscarriage, among other offences. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was also invoked. During the investigation, provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were added.

Given the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, the police constituted an SIT headed by Additional SP Kishtwar Pardeep Singh. The team includes Deputy Superintendent of Police Nitish Sharma, Chatroo SHO Inspector Rishi Kumar and other officers. It has been directed to conduct a thorough, scientific and time-bound investigation into all aspects of the case.

During the inquest and subsequent investigation, evidence allegedly emerged against the government teacher, including allegations that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted the minor, resulting in her pregnancy.

The probe further revealed that the teacher, allegedly in criminal conspiracy with his brother, administered medicines purportedly intended to terminate the pregnancy, Singh said.

The girl was initially taken to the Public Health Centre in Chatroo for medical treatment and was later shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar by the accused and others. The police allege that the hospital's daily-wager sweeper was also involved in the conspiracy. The minor received treatment at the hospital and underwent an ultrasound examination.

Accordingly, Ishaq, Sheikh and the sweeper were arrested for their alleged involvement in the conspiracy, the SSP said. He added that further arrests would be made wherever warranted by evidence.

"The investigation is being conducted in a fair, impartial, professional, scientific and evidence-based manner," Singh said, adding that every aspect of the case was being examined and legal action would be taken against anyone found involved.

Meanwhile, the local Imam of Kishtwar Jamia Masjid has called for a complete shutdown across the district on Thursday, demanding a thorough investigation and action against all those responsible. The shutdown call has received support from various organisations, including lawyers and Hindu religious bodies.

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has also issued notices to the Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary, Director General of Police and Kishtwar SSP, seeking their responses within five days. The commission said it may summon the officials in person if they fail to respond. It has decided to probe the alleged rape and death of the minor girl.

Kolkata, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) To avoid confusion among junior staff in Kolkata Police about their dos and don’ts during emergency duty, senior officials of the Kolkata Police will henceforth send video instructions before being deputed for such situations or law and order-related duties.

An instruction on this count has already been issued from the office of the city police commissioner, Ajay K. Nanda, where officers in the ranks of deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners have been advised to send the video instructions to inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, sergeants and other subordinate ranks before sending them for emergency duties.

However, a senior city police official said that such video instructions, to be shared in the respective WhatsApp Groups, should not be more than two minutes in duration. According to him, this two-minute time limit has been fixed as longer video instructions might add to confusion rather than reducing it.

Accordingly, police officers sharing such video instructions should tailor them accordingly so that the instructions do not exceed the time limit.

“Before any law and order-related event in the city like processions, major gatherings or protest marches, senior officers brief their subordinate officers or staff on what to do and what not to do. But at times, the instructions do not properly percolate to junior officers or staff, especially at the levels of sub-inspectors, sergeants and other subordinate staff. As a result, many police personnel or officers do not understand what they have to do during duty or what their role would be in maintaining law and order. Now, to remove those confusions, the move on short video instructions has been initiated,” said the city police officer.

In the new system, deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner-level officers have also been asked not only to share the video instructions in the respective WhatsApp groups, but also ensure that the video instructions have been accessed and understood by their junior staff.

“As a result, every subordinate police officer and staff will be able to know their specific duties in case of emergency or law and order related duties and prepare themselves for any situation,” the city police officer said.

Kolkata, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kolkata Police on Thursday morning said that a police team rescued an abducted minor girl from a city hotel on Wednesday night.

The minor girl was abducted and locked in that city hotel room by her abductors with the intention of trafficking her and forcing her into the flesh trade. The cops have also arrested the four abductors, who lured the minor girl with the promise of getting her a job in the same hotel.

The four persons arrested in this connection have been identified as Asish Bhardwaj, Swaroop Das, Sheikh Shahabuddin and Muzaffar Hossain.

The investigating officials suspect that these four individuals are part of a major girl trafficking racket and currently they are being interrogated for information about others involved in the trafficking racket.

An insider from the city police said that the minor girl was recently appointed at a bar in the city for singing assignments. There she caught the attention of the four traffickers. They lured the girl with the promise of arranging a singing job for her against a much higher remuneration at another city hotel at Garfa in South Kolkata.

Thereafter, she was asked to come to the said hotel at Garfa in South Kolkata to finalise her job as a crooner there. However, after she reached the hotel, one of the abductors took her to a room at the same hotel and locked the room from outside.

She remained locked in the room for a couple of days and after that with the help of a hotel staff she somehow managed to inform one of her relatives about the matter. That relative immediately contacted the local police station and the cops immediately sprang into action.

“The cops conducted a raid at the hotel and rescued the abducted minor girl from the hotel room and also arrested the four persons involved in her kidnapping,” a city police officer said.

In the face of integration, the cops added, the four arrested men have confessed to their involvement in the abduction and they also admitted that their intention was to force her into the flesh trade.

“Fortunately, we got information about the abduction in time and hence were able to rescue her from the hotel room before she could be trafficked outside the state,” said the city police officer.

The cops will also question the singing bar authorities, where she used to sing earlier and question them on why they hired a minor girl as a crooner.

Cachar (Assam), Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major crackdown on an inter-state narcotics trafficking network, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized narcotic substances worth approximately Rs 168 crore from Jujhang Pahar areas in Cachar district of southern Assam, officials said on Thursday.

A defence spokesman said that the joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the DRI, Silchar, conducted on Wednesday night, resulted in the recovery of 5.60 lakh highly addictive methamphetamine tablets weighing approximately 60 kg and valued at over Rs 168 crore.

A drug peddler was also arrested in connection with the seizure, while a truck allegedly used for transporting the contraband was also seized.

The contraband, suspected to have originated in neighbouring Manipur, was being transported towards Assam through the Imphal-Jiribam (along Cachar district) National Highway (NH-37), the spokesman said.

Preliminary assessment indicates that the inter-state syndicate was attempting to use Cachar and Sribhumi districts (formerly known as Karimganj) as transit corridors for onward transportation of the narcotics towards mainland India, highlighting the extensive reach and organised nature of the trafficking network, he added.

The apprehended individual and the recovered contraband and vehicle have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

“The record-breaking seizure marks a major setback to the inter-state narcotics syndicate and demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated operations between Assam Rifles and DRI. “The operation further reinforces the unwavering resolve of Assam Rifles to disrupt trafficking routes, dismantle narcotics networks and safeguard the youth of the Northeast,” an official statement said.

The methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, contain a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine and are commonly misused as high-dose stimulant drugs in Bangladesh and neighbouring countries, including India.

Myanmar, which shares a 1,643-km-long unfenced international border with four northeastern states -- Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram -- serves as a key transit point for drugs, particularly heroin and methamphetamine tablets, entering India.

Myanmar’s Chin state is considered a major hub for smuggling various drugs, exotic wildlife and other contraband into India through six districts of Mizoram -- Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual and Serchhip.

Five districts of Manipur -- Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kamjong and Ukhrul -- share a 398-km-long unfenced international border with Myanmar.

Mizoram shares 510 km and 318 km unfenced border with Myanmar and Bangladesh, respectively.

The latest seizure is among the major recent recoveries of methamphetamine tablets in the Northeast and is expected to deal a significant blow to the inter-state drug trafficking network operating through the region.

Jaipur, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) What began as the mysterious disappearance of a railway officer turned into a chilling kidnapping-for-ransom investigation, with police alleging that the plot was orchestrated by the victim’s own brother-in-law. Ravi Kumar Meena, Chief Office Superintendent at the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) in Ajmer, was allegedly abducted on August 21 by his relative Mahendra.

His kidnappers demanded Rs 51 lakh, while police launched a frantic search that eventually involved footage from more than 130 CCTV cameras.

According to his statement to the police, Meena was leaving the RRB office at around 5:15 p.m. on August 21 and was riding towards the chairman’s bungalow to collect the office laptop. As soon as he came out of the office, a car allegedly hit his motorcycle and knocked him to the ground.

Three or four men then got out of the car and allegedly forced him inside. Meena told police that he already knew two of them, Deva and Anil. The men allegedly later told him that Mahendra, his wife’s brother, had sent them to abduct him.

According to Meena, Mahendra joined them in Jaipur before the group took him to Nangal Pyariwas. There, Meena alleged, he was assaulted and told to arrange Rs 51 lakh. Meena told investigators that he was not allowed to speak to anyone for around 24 hours. The accused allegedly then took him to a forested area in Tehla, where he was again assaulted. He was subsequently allegedly forced to contact his mother and ask her to arrange the money. But the ordeal did not end there.

According to Meena's account, the accused later took him to the Aandhi area. There, using his Aadhaar card, they allegedly arranged for stamp paper and made him write an affidavit stating that he would pay Rs 51 lakh and that he had not been kidnapped. The alleged document appears to have been intended to create a false record and undermine any future kidnapping complaint.

Meanwhile, Civil Lines police were racing to locate Meena. His mother, Samanti Meena, had filed a kidnapping complaint after he failed to return home. A special team began reconstructing his movements and examining CCTV footage across Ajmer.

Investigators eventually reviewed footage from more than 130 cameras and traced a suspicious Fortuner travelling towards Jaipur. Technical evidence and call detail records analysed by the cyber cell helped narrow down the suspects' movements. Police teams from Ajmer, Dausa and Alwar were brought into the operation, with raids conducted at suspected hideouts.

Meena told police that the accused eventually began taking him towards Bandikui. During the journey, however, the kidnappers allegedly spotted an Ajmer police vehicle. Fearing that they had been caught, they reportedly pulled Meena out of the vehicle and fled. By then, police had already narrowed down his location. Meena was safely rescued, while the accused were apprehended with the assistance of local police teams.

Police allege that Mahendra, Meena’s wife’s brother, orchestrated the kidnapping, with Deva, Anil and others allegedly assisting him. The Rs 51 lakh ransom demand, the alleged assault, the attempt to force Meena to sign an affidavit denying the kidnapping, and the subsequent attempt to abandon him have now become key parts of the investigation.

Police are questioning the arrested suspects to establish the complete conspiracy and identify anyone else involved. The case, which began with a railway officer simply disappearing after leaving his workplace, has now unfolded into an alleged Rs 51 lakh kidnapping plot involving people known to the victim and a desperate attempt to make the kidnapping appear as if it never happened.

Jaipur, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) A 20-year-old student was found hanging inside a hostel room at NIMS University near Jaipur, Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.

The incident came to light after fellow students noticed a foul smell coming from his locked room and informed the police late Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Mohit Saini, a resident of Lotesar in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He was a second-year CPT student and had been staying at the university's Sunrise Hostel.

According to police, the incident was reported late at night. Hostel students became suspicious after detecting a strong foul smell coming from Saini's room. They informed the Chandwaji police, following which a police team reached the hostel. Police had the locked room opened and found Saini's body hanging inside. The body was subsequently shifted to NIMS Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Chandwaji SHO Rajbir Singh said the condition of the body and the foul smell suggested that Saini may have died one or two days before the incident was discovered. Police suspect suicide but have not yet established the exact circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators are collecting information from hostel authorities and fellow students. The post-mortem examination is expected to provide further information about the cause and time of death.

The incident comes just one day after the death of another student at NIMS University. On August 25, B.Tech student Aditya Tiwari, a resident of Lucknow, allegedly died after falling from the 15th floor of a hostel building. The incident reportedly occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Tiwari was staying at the university's Garnek Hostel.

According to the police, neither of his roommates was present in the room when the incident occurred. Police are investigating both incidents and examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Statements from students, roommates and hostel officials are expected to form part of the investigation.

The two incidents within a span of two days have raised concerns on the university campus. However, police have not indicated any connection between the two cases at this stage.

Further details are expected after the post-mortem reports and completion of the ongoing investigations.

New Delhi, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) A 21-year-old student and model was allegedly stabbed to death inside her home in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar, with police suspecting the involvement of her gym trainer.

The deceased, identified as Muskan, was reportedly alone at her second-floor residence when the alleged attack took place on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Imran, allegedly entered the house, attacked her with a knife and fled from the scene.

Hearing Muskan's cries for help, neighbours rushed to the residence and found her seriously injured and lying in a pool of blood. She was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries.

"We are searching for the culprit," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Gupta told reporters, adding that the police were examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation.

Muskan's friend Aman said she was the youngest among three sisters. According to him, one of her elder sisters, who is currently in Chandigarh, called and asked him to rush to Muskan's house after learning about the attack.

"I received a call, but I don't remember the exact time. They told me they were not at home and that someone had entered the house and stabbed Muskan," a friend of the deceased told IANS.

The friend said the alleged attacker was identified as Imran, who worked as a trainer at the same gym where Muskan used to exercise.

Aman said he immediately contacted another friend and asked him to reach the house and ensure that Muskan was taken to hospital. By the time he arrived, an ambulance had already reached the spot and shifted her for medical treatment.

He also claimed that Muskan's sisters had previously raised concerns about Imran allegedly harassing her.

"He had troubled her earlier as well, and after this incident, suspicion immediately fell on him," Aman said.

Police are conducting further investigation, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.

Mumbai, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested the alleged main supplier from Bihar in connection with the seizure of hashish worth more than Rs 10 crore, an official said on Thursday.

The breakthrough came after the Worli Unit of the ANC arrested a person near Bandra Terminus on August 17 and recovered 10.010 kg of hashish from his possession. The seized contraband was estimated to be worth around Rs 10.01 crore in the international market. A case was subsequently registered at the Nirmal Nagar Police Station.

During the interrogation of the arrested accused, investigators obtained information about the alleged supplier of the narcotic substance. Acting on the lead, a team comprising personnel from the Worli Unit, including SPO Kiran Wagh and officer Rohit Sali, was dispatched to Bihar to trace the supplier.

On August 23, the Mumbai Crime Branch team reached Raxaul in Bihar's East Champaran district and, with the assistance of the local police, apprehended the accused near Motihari. Police said he was preparing to flee to neighbouring Nepal when he was arrested.

Further investigation into the drug supply network is underway.

In a separate anti-narcotics operation, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the LB Nagar Zone and the Nagole police on August 22 had busted an alleged inter-state hashish oil trafficking network and arrested two persons with 14.2 kg of the narcotic substance, valued at approximately Rs 1.75 crore.

The accused were identified as 30-year-old Thalle Nagaraju and 39-year-old Nagula Narayana alias Kiran, both natives of Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

Police had intercepted the duo while they were allegedly transporting the hashish oil on a motorcycle towards Gowrelly Road in Nagole. Acting on specific information, officers had conducted vehicle checks at Gowrelly X Road and stopped their motorcycle.

The police recovered 14 packets containing a black-coloured substance, weighing around 14.2 kg in total. Two mobile phones, the motorcycle and Rs 2,500 in cash were also seized.

Jaipur, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major crackdown on interstate drug smuggling, Sawai Madhopur Police has busted a suspected smack‑smuggling syndicate and arrested two alleged smugglers with 153.34 grams of illegal smack.

The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 3 crore in the international market.

Ranwajna Dungar Police carried out the operation under the direction of Sawai Madhopur Superintendent of Police Jyestha Maitreyi and the leadership of Station House Officer Shyamsundar, based on intelligence inputs from the Jaipur Range Cyber Cell.

Police said they had received information that a pickup vehicle travelling from Kota towards Kustla Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway was allegedly carrying drugs. They also learnt that a Swift Dzire travelling from Lalsot would arrive to collect the consignment and that the exchange would take place on the expressway.

Acting on the tip‑off, the police team reached the location and found the Swift Dzire and pickup vehicle standing face‑to‑face. Police allegedly found Subhash Gurjar, a resident of the Khoyli Police Station area in Karauli and currently residing in Dausa, in the car.

In contrast, Ramniwas Meena, a resident of the Khedi Police Station area in Chhipabarod, Baran, was allegedly found in the pickup.

A search of the vehicles and the accused, conducted as per procedure, led to the recovery of 153.34 grams of smack wrapped in khaki‑coloured tape from Gurjar’s car. During preliminary interrogation, Gurjar allegedly told police that he had received the smack from Meena.

Police said both accused disclosed that they had been involved in smuggling smack for a considerable period and supplying it in areas including Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Dausa, Jaipur and the NCR. Buyers would further sell the drug in smaller quantities, generating substantial profits.

Police are continuing to interrogate the two accused and gathering information about other alleged members of the network, including suppliers and buyers. Personnel from Ranwajna Dungar Police Station, DST Sawai Madhopur and the Jaipur Range Cyber Cell played a key role in the operation. ASI Ratandeep and Head Constables Rakesh, Roshan and Jitendra Kumar were among those involved.

The two, booked in separate cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, escaped from the Srinagar jail on August 23, after scaling the front-side wall of the high-security prison, officials said.

While Khan is a resident of Sadanpora, Rajasthan, Gujjar is a resident of Sanglan Chittergul in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said.

A massive manhunt was launched to trace and apprehend the escaped inmates, they said, adding that further details regarding the circumstances of their escape from the jail were awaited.

The jail is guarded by personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) who were deployed to provide armed cover to the facility in October 2023 along with the Central Jail in Jammu.

The force is responsible for securing both the inner and outer perimeters of these sensitive facilities through a combination of trained manpower, modern surveillance systems, and access control measures.

According to the officials, Khan was lodged in the Srinagar jail on June 23 in connection with an FIR registered against him at Lar police station in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district under various sections of the BNS and sections 3 and 4 (penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.

Similarly, Gujar was lodged in jail on April 13 in connection with a separate FIR registered at Srinagar's Soura police station under various sections of the BNS and sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act, they said.

The police had issued a wanted notice for the two escapees and also announced a reward for information leading to their arrest.

The police had also urged the public to share any information that could help trace or apprehend the two men by contacting the nearest police station or dialling 112.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) In the wake of reports of irregularities in the land registration process in some parts of the state, the Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) department on Wednesday directed District Collectors to regularly monitor and closely oversee the functioning of registration offices under their respective jurisdictions.

The Revenue department in an official statement noted that the state government has been laying emphasis on making the land registration process in the state more transparent, accountable and compliant with rules and regulations.

In a communication to the Collectors, Additional Chief Secretary of the R&DM department, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, said that a serious case of fraud related to land registration had come to light in Nuapada district of the state.

After the issue was brought to the notice of the department, Sarveshwar Jal, who was serving as the Tahasildar of Komna Tahasil in Nuapada district and was also discharging the duties of Sub-Registrar has immediately been placed under suspension by the state government.

The officials also said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the officer, allegedly in connivance with vested interest groups, facilitated the fraudulent registration of a large parcel of land.

Following information received from the Nuapada Collector Madhusudan Dash regarding the matter, the state government immediately suspended the concerned Tahasildar.

"Keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, the department has directed all Collectors to ensure that the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and District Registrar of their respective districts regularly monitor registration-related activities and maintain strict oversight," the department noted.

This apart, the Collectors have also been directed to conduct surprise visits and inspections of the functioning and activities of registration offices so that such irregularities can be detected and prevented in a timely manner.

"Ensuring transparency and accountability in the registration process through maximum use of technology is the key priority of the state government. Such irregularities will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty, while ensuring due compliance with rules and regulations throughout the entire registration process," the R&DM department asserted.

Karwar (Karnataka), Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Palestine flag was briefly waved during an Eid Milad procession in Ankola town of Karwar district in Karnataka on Wednesday, prompting police to intervene and take the flag into custody.

The incident occurred when a youth participating in the procession suddenly took out the Palestine flag and began displaying and waving it. Police immediately noticed the incident, approached the youth and questioned him about the flag.

The youth reportedly argued with the police, following which the police took the flag into custody. Elders participating in the procession intervened and advised the youth not to argue with the police and asked him to continue with the procession. The procession was subsequently allowed to proceed.

Police have not registered a case in connection with the incident so far. Officials said they would examine the youth's background and assess whether there was any attempt or conspiracy to create communal tension. If any such involvement is established, appropriate legal action will be taken, they said.

Police have also stepped up security arrangements across Karwar district in view of Eid Milad celebrations.

Meanwhile, in a separate development in Chikkamagaluru, a "I Love Mohammad" banner was put up in Tippunagar during Eid Milad celebrations. The banner was placed near a large cut-out of Tipu Sultan, drawing objections from some local residents.

The "I Love Mohammad" campaign had earlier triggered controversy at the national level, with cases being registered in connection with the display of such banners in some places. On Wednesday, posters bearing the slogan were seen along streets through which the Eid procession passed.

The latest incident also comes against the backdrop of an earlier controversy in Chikkamagaluru involving a large Tipu Sultan cut-out and the alleged playing of a Pakistan-related song. A video of the incident was circulated on social media, triggering controversy, following which two people were arrested.

Chikkamagaluru police have since removed the "I Love Mohammad" banners put up in the area and are maintaining heightened vigil in view of the Eid Milad celebrations.

Barring two incidents, Eid Milad processions have remained largely peaceful across the state, with no other untoward incidents reported.

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has conveyed wishes of Eid Mubarak to people of the state. "Warm greetings on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. May this occasion bring peace, happiness, harmony and prosperity," he stated.

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara stated, "Heartfelt Eid Milad-un-Nabi greetings to all Muslim brothers and sisters of the state. I extend my best wishes that the sacred Eid Milad, a symbol of harmony, brings happiness, peace, prosperity, and contentment to everyone."

Surat, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Surat City Cyber Crime Cell on Wednesday arrested two men from Maharashtra in connection with an alleged online investment fraud in which a Surat complainant was duped of Rs 9.58 lakh after being lured through an Instagram advertisement for share-market investments.

According to the police, the accused allegedly used a pre-planned scheme in which potential investors were first approached through advertisements on Instagram and then added to Telegram groups.

The complainant was allegedly sent a link to a fabricated website through the group and persuaded to register and create a Demat account.

Police said the complainant subsequently transferred Rs 9,58,998.98 to different bank accounts provided through the website for share-market investments.

Transactions were shown on the platform as generating profits, and the complainant's Demat account allegedly reflected the invested amount along with returns.

However, when the complainant sought to withdraw the money, the withdrawal was not processed, leading to the alleged online fraud.

A case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Amendment Act, 2008.

Following directions from senior officials, Inspector M.C. Nayak and his team conducted a technical investigation to trace those allegedly involved in the case.

The arrested men have been identified as Uddhav alias Ravi Gondhali, 27, a decoration worker, and Gopendra alias Gopu Shinde, 23, a student, both residents of Parbhani district in Maharashtra.

Police alleged that Uddhav had established a firm in his own name and obtained an Udyam Certificate before opening a current account with Bank of India in the firm's name.

Investigators said he handed over the account to Gopendra for a commission of Rs 5,000. The account was allegedly subsequently made available to absconding accused persons in return for a two per cent commission on transactions.

According to the police, transactions totalling Rs 1.47 crore took place in the current account between September 1, 2025 and January 21, 2026.

A check of the account through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) allegedly revealed 13 complaints registered in different states, involving reported fraud of Rs 40.48 crore.

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal advises victims of financial cyber fraud to report incidents through the '1930' helpline.

Police have advised people to remain cautious of social media advertisements promising high returns through share-market investments and to verify the credentials of individuals and platforms before making financial transactions.

They have also urged victims of financial cyber fraud to call '1930' immediately, as early reporting can increase the possibility of freezing funds in bank accounts.

The investigation into the case is continuing.

Kolkata, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) One person has been arrested in connection with the robbery of Rs 1.3 crore at a mattress store in Kolkata last week, police said on Wednesday. According to investigators, a gang from Rajasthan is behind the incident.

A hawala businessman named Lalit Mundra was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the robbery. After reviewing CCTV footage, police arrested him in Salkia, Howrah district. Officials said Mundra acted as the “tipper” for the robbers and had called them from Rajasthan.

The Kolkata Police team is now heading to Bikaner, Rajasthan, in search of the robbers. At the same time, three employees of the mattress shop went missing after the robbery. Based on this information, police uncovered further details suggesting that similar robberies had taken place at other shops owned by the mattress business owner in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

Complaints of robberies worth several crores of rupees have been filed in those states. Another office of the same mattress owner in Kolkata’s Survey Park was also looted last May. Police are probing whether the owner’s acquaintances are repeatedly involved in the robberies.

Police said that last Wednesday, three robbers entered the mattress shop on Cotton Street in Kolkata’s Posta area. With towels tied around their faces, they brandished revolvers and robbed employees of Rs 1.3 crore before fleeing. CCTV footage showed a man leading the robbers to the shop.

During the robbery, he was seen sitting in a nearby shop, drinking tea and making phone calls. Moments later, the robbers left the shop, and he followed them.

From this evidence, police identified him as Lalit Mundra, a hawala operator. On Tuesday, police raided his house in Salkia but found him missing. They then rushed to Howrah station, where it was discovered that he had boarded a Gujarat‑bound train. He was arrested twenty minutes before the train’s departure.

During interrogation, Mundra claimed that the Rs 1.3 crore belonged to hawala. Police said the robbers fled from Howrah station to Madhya Pradesh after the robbery. Although their homes are in Bikaner, investigators said they will conduct searches in Rajasthan based on the information received.
