Patna, May 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tension gripped Nauranga-Jalalpur village under the Panchmahla Police Station area in Bihar's Patna district after a dispute linked to a social media post allegedly escalated into firing during a village council meeting.

According to an official on Saturday, the conflict originated from a social media post made by Mukesh Kumar, who is said to be the current Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) President and a representative of the village sarpanch in Nauranga-Jalalpur village.

The post, related to an earlier incident, allegedly enraged members of another group in the village.

To resolve the dispute and restore peace, a Panchayat meeting was convened on Saturday.

However, during the discussions, an argument between the two sides intensified, following which allegations emerged that several rounds of firing were carried out at the spot.

The gunfire triggered panic and chaos among villagers attending the meeting, leading to a stampede-like situation.

No injuries have been officially confirmed so far.

Police authorities have not yet formally verified the exact number of rounds fired or identified the individuals responsible for the firing.

However, security has been tightened in the area amid rising tension.

Following information about the incident, police teams from Panchmahla police station, along with personnel from nearby stations, reached the village and launched an investigation.

According to sources, raids are currently being conducted at the residences and suspected hideouts of two local youths, who are being questioned in connection with the case.

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify all those involved and restore normalcy in the village.

Nauranga-Jalalpur village is considered sensitive in Patna following a firing incident that took place on January 23, 2025, when Janata Dal-United MLA Anant Singh and the Sonu-Monu gang were involved in an exchange for firing of more than 200 rounds of gunshots.

Nauranga-Jalalpur is a native village of Sonu-Monu, and Anant Singh went there to release a house allegedly captured by the Sonu-Monu gang.

On January 24, 2025, Anant Singh surrendered before the Barh Sub-Divisional Court. He has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days and is currently lodged in the Beur jail.

Sonu Singh and Monu Singh were also arrested in connection with that case.

Guwahati, May 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that a major consignment of banned Codeine Phosphate syrup worth around Rs 2.1 crore was seized by the Cachar Police as part of the state government's ongoing anti-drug operations.

Sharing the development on Saturday on social media platform X, the Chief Minister added that the seizure was made after police acted on reliable intelligence inputs and intercepted a truck in Cachar district.

"Update on #AssamAgainstDrugs. Based on reliable inputs, a truck was intercepted by @cacharpolice leading to the recovery of Rs 2.1 crore worth of banned Codeine Phosphate Syrup. One individual has been arrested. Our efforts to dismantle the drugs network will continue," CM Sarma said.

According to police sources, the truck was intercepted during a special operation carried out by the Cachar Police in southern Assam.

During the search operation, a huge quantity of banned cough syrup bottles containing Codeine Phosphate was recovered from the vehicle.

Police said that one person was arrested in connection with the case, while further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the consignment.

Officials suspect that the narcotic substances were being transported through Assam as part of an interstate drug trafficking network.

The seizure is the latest in a series of anti-narcotics operations launched across Assam over the past few years under the state government's intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal narcotics trade.

The Assam government has repeatedly said that the fight against drugs remains one of its top priorities, with law enforcement agencies conducting regular operations in border districts and key transit routes.

Chief Minister Sarma has often asserted that the state administration would continue strict action against drug peddlers and organised trafficking networks to make Assam drug-free.

Hyderabad, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Telangana High Court advocate was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants who hit him with a speeding SUV in Hyderabad on Saturday in what police suspect to be a targeted attack.

The incident occurred in the Masab Tank area in the heart of the city.

According to the police, advocate Khaja Moizuddin was getting into his car near his residence when a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed him from behind.

The vehicle sped away after the impact, throwing the advocate onto the road and leaving him grievously injured.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The case was initially suspected to be a hit-and-run incident. However, following a complaint lodged by the family and scrutiny of CCTV footage, police are now treating it as a murder case with suspected links to ongoing disputes over Waqf land.

Moizuddin was a senior advocate who had been practising in the High Court and City Civil Court for nearly 35 years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshitha Krishna Murthy told the media that the preliminary investigation pointed towards the possible involvement of persons linked to disputes over Waqf lands in Malakpet and other areas of Hyderabad.

The family of Moizuddin named two persons allegedly connected to legal battles being handled by him relating to alleged encroachments on Waqf land.

Police have formed special teams to trace the SUV allegedly used in the crime and identify as well as apprehend the accused.

Moizuddin’s son Farhan, who is also an advocate, told the media that his father had received threats from two individuals allegedly involved in encroachment of Waqf lands.

Farhan claimed that his father had been attacked five times in the past.

He further alleged that one of the two individuals suspected to be involved in the murder had visited his father’s office a few months ago and issued a “last warning” regarding the legal cases being handled by him.

The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association condemned the killing and demanded that the Director General of Police and the Hyderabad Police Commissioner constitute a special team to trace the culprits at the earliest and ensure that they are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also condemned the murder of Moizuddin.

He demanded the arrest of the “main mastermind and assailants” behind the killing of “this brave advocate”.

“We stand with his son Advocate Farhan and the family,” Owaisi posted on X.

Owaisi also visited Moizuddin’s residence to offer condolences and console the bereaved family members.

Mumbai, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 702 kg Ganja while busting a major interstate trafficking network in Gondia, Maharashtra, an official said on Saturday.

The 702 kg Ganja was concealed in 100 packets among grocery cargo items, including detergent, toothpaste & hair dye, was recovered and seized, the official said in a statement.

The seized contraband was sourced from Odisha & destined for multiple Maharashtra-based drug syndicates operating in Nagpur, Gondia, Pune and Mumbai.

Earlier in a separate case, the NCB secured jail terms in a Mumbai court for five drug traffickers, including the kingpin, in a synthetic drug trafficking case. The convicts were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 15 years to one year, said a statement.

The Special NDPS Court in Thane sentenced the kingpin Mohammed Arif Yaqoob Bhujwala, a resident of Mumbai's Chinchbunder, to 15 years' imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 2 lakh, the NCB's Mumbai Zonal Unit said.

Parvez Khan alias "Chinku Pathan" and Mohammed Salman Khan, both residents of Chinchbunder, along with Vikrant Jain, a resident of Bhiwandi in Thane, were awarded five years' imprisonment each and fined Rs 50,000 each, the NCB added.

Haris Faizullah Khan, resident of Bandra West in Mumbai, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 10,000, it said.

Financial investigation against kingpin Mohd. Arif Bhujwala resulted in seizure and confirmation of drug sale proceeds in cash, eight movable properties, and four immovable properties collectively valued at more than Rs 5 crore, the NCB added.

The case originated on January 20, 2021, when officers of NCB Mumbai, acting on precise intelligence, conducted a search operation at Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai and apprehended a known history-sheeter and drug trafficker, Parvez Naserullah Khan.

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court has taken suo motu (on its own motion) cognisance of the high-profile suspected dowry death of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma at her matrimonial home in Bhopal, amid allegations of institutional bias and procedural lapses in the investigation.

As per details uploaded on the website of the apex court, the matter has been registered as “In Re: Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Girl at Her Matrimonial Home”.

The suo motu case, registered on Saturday as SMW (Crl.) No. 4/2026, is slated to be heard on May 25 by a Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi.

The development comes amid mounting controversy surrounding the death of Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.

Her family has alleged dowry harassment, procedural lapses in the initial probe, delay in registration of FIR, inconsistencies in the post-mortem examination, and possible tampering with evidence.

The Madhya Pradesh government has already recommended a CBI investigation into the matter following public outrage and demands from the victim’s family for an independent probe.

Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the case, was sent to seven days of police remand by a Bhopal district court after being brought to the city from Jabalpur under tight security.

In another significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court earlier directed that a second post-mortem examination of Twisha Sharma’s body be conducted by a medical team to be constituted by the Director of AIIMS Delhi.

The state government had also approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the interim bail granted to Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judicial officer, citing alleged non-cooperation and apprehensions regarding possible compromise of evidence.

Twisha Sharma’s family has consistently maintained that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment over dowry-related demands and has sought a fast-track trial along with a court-monitored investigation.

On the other hand Giribala Singh has questioned the manner in which the investigation was being conducted and alleged that the police were working under pressure.

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Commission for Women (NCW) sought a report within seven days from the Delhi Police Commissioner over the alleged abduction, gang-rape, and forced religious conversion of a Dalit woman in Jamia Nagar, an official said on Saturday.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha after taking suo motu cognizance of media reports regarding the alleged incident.

The survivor had alleged that she was held captive for several days and subjected to repeated sexual assault by multiple individuals.

Rahatkar wrote to the Delhi Police Commissioner, directing immediate, stringent, and time-bound action in the matter. The Commission also sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

The ATR has been sought on the FIR registered in the matter, provisions invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and SC/ST Act, arrest of all accused persons, medical and forensic examination conducted, recording of the survivor's statement before the Magistrate, and measures taken to ensure her safety, confidentiality, protection, counselling, and rehabilitation, said a statement.

The Commission stated that allegations involving gang-rape, caste-based violence, and forced religious coercion are extremely grave in nature and must be investigated with utmost sensitivity, objectivity, and urgency.

The NCW condemned the incident and stated that crimes against women involving sexual violence, coercion, and intimidation are unacceptable and must invite the strictest action under law.

In a separate matter, the NCW took suo motu cognizance of "deeply disturbing" media reports regarding an alleged acid attack and extreme domestic cruelty against a woman in Pune.

The case involves a man who allegedly poured floor-cleaning acid on his wife's private parts over suspicion of an extramarital affair, confined her inside the house for several days, and denied her medical treatment, according to the Commission.

Rahatkar wrote to the Director General of Police, Maharashtra, "directing immediate, stringent, and time-bound action in the matter".

The Commission also sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A team of four senior doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Delhi arrived in Bhopal on Saturday night to conduct a second post-mortem examination of actor-model Twisha Sharma.

The second autopsy will be conducted at AIIMS Bhopal on Sunday following directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The High Court had accepted a petition filed by Twisha’s father seeking a fresh post-mortem examination by an independent medical board from AIIMS-Delhi.

Sources told IANS that the medical team from the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology would also speak to Twisha’s parents and brother regarding their objections to the first post-mortem report prepared at AIIMS Bhopal on May 13.

The doctors are also expected to visit Twisha’s matrimonial home in Bhopal as part of the forensic investigation.

Meanwhile, a Bhopal court on Saturday sent Samarth Singh, husband of Twisha Sharma and the main accused in the alleged dowry death case, to seven days of police remand till May 29.

Samarth was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Bhopal Police.

He was taken into custody from the Jabalpur district court premises on Friday after attempting to surrender there.

The court also directed that Samarth’s passport be seized, following which his lawyer submitted the passport before the court.

A lawyer by profession, Samarth is the son of former judge Giribala Singh.

He had been missing since May 15 after Katara Hills Police registered a dowry death and harassment case against him and his mother in connection with Twisha’s death.

Bhopal Police had announced a reward for information leading to his arrest and had also issued a lookout circular against him.

While Giribala Singh had earlier secured anticipatory bail, Samarth’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a lower court.

Mumbai, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Western Railway (WR) administration on Saturday successfully completed a major anti-encroachment drive near the Bandra railway station, completely flattening all illegal structures and shanties in the Garib Nagar area of Mumbai's Bandra East.

Following the five-day intensive operation, debris clearance work commenced on Saturday.

According to the Railway officials, while unauthorised structures were completely razed, the ground floors of around 100 authorised houses in the locality were left untouched to ensure safety, though upper illegal floors of these buildings were demolished.

The five-day mega demolition drive was not entirely peaceful.

Violence erupted when the demolition of a local religious structure began, prompting angry residents to pelt stones at the authorities to halt the process.

To bring the situation under control and disperse the rioting mob, the police resorted to a cane-charge. Several police personnel and locals sustained injuries during the clash. However, due to a heavy security blanket and strict police deployment, further escalation was prevented.

Aside from this single incident of stone-pelting, the rest of the demolition process was carried out smoothly.

"Western Railway has achieved 100 per cent completion in this demolition drive against unauthorised structures. Work to remove the resulting debris has already begun. Furthermore, to ensure that this land is not encroached upon again, the construction of a protective boundary wall has been initiated and will be completed soon," Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway, said.

With the vast stretch of land now cleared, the Bandra station area has visibly opened up, making commuting significantly easier for passengers.

Western Railway is now planning a major overhaul of the precinct to boost passenger comfort.

"Plans are being drawn up to introduce passenger-centric amenities in the Bandra area soon. A new layout will be designed to ensure smooth entry and exit points, making the commuter experience hassle-free. The new infrastructure will be developed keeping the dynamic needs and requirements of the passengers in mind," a senior Western Railway official said.

The cleared land in Bandra holds immense strategic importance for the railway administration.

The removal of these long-standing encroachments has unlocked vital space for future infrastructure expansion and the introduction of additional train services. As one of the busiest railway corridors in the country, this section has proposed plans to augment passenger capacity.

Senior Railway officials noted that the availability of this land will now facilitate the introduction of additional long-distance trains, the creation of dedicated corridors for specific train operations, and a significant improvement in the punctuality of local suburban trains.

A Railway official also said that the reclaimed land is vital for multiple mega-railway projects aiming to ease Mumbai's severe commuter congestion. This land clears the path to expand the fifth and sixth railway lines on the Santacruz–Mumbai Central corridor.

Rebuilding these railway lines allows the Railways to completely separate local suburban trains from long-distance outstation trains. This will immediately improve the punctuality of local trains.

The Railway official added that the cleared area will facilitate a better connection between the Bandra suburban station and the Bandra Terminus, allowing the Railways to run up to 50 new originating long-distance trains.

The cleared bottleneck will improve general access toward the nearby Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), which is currently seeing massive upgrades, including the upcoming Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train station.

Kolkata, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi on Saturday ordered a departmental probe against Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Avik Dey, whose name had surfaced both in connection with the rape and murder of a woman junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024 and the multi-crore financial irregularities case linked to the institution.

Dey, considered a close confidant of former R.G. Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, was also arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the financial irregularities case related to the medical college.

Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the reopening of files linked to the R.G. Kar cases and suspended three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers -- former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal and former Deputy Commissioners Abhishek Gupta and Indira Mukherjee -- over alleged lapses in the initial investigation conducted by Kolkata Police before the probe was handed over to the CBI following an order of the Calcutta High Court.

CM Adhikari also clarified that the fresh investigation into the R.G. Kar cases would continue parallel to the ongoing CBI probe.

Now, with the R.G. Kar files being reopened by the state administration, the Governor on Saturday ordered a departmental probe against Dr Avik Dey.

Incidentally, as per the Chief Minister’s announcement, departmental proceedings are also being conducted against the three suspended IPS officers.

It is learnt that multiple allegations have surfaced against Dr Dey, including allegations of promoting a so-called “threat culture” in different medical institutions in the state through his close associates and allegedly pursuing postgraduate training under the service quota illegally, among others.

Dey is currently serving as a radiologist at Burdwan Medical College in East Burdwan district.

During the R.G. Kar controversy, his name had surfaced in allegations relating to the alleged operation of “threat culture” in different medical colleges across the state.

He was also accused of reaching the crime scene in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case despite having no official role there. Questions were raised regarding the timing and reasons behind his presence at the spot during the early hours after the victim’s body was discovered.

The controversy deepened further after suspended Deputy Commissioner Indira Mukherjee, during a press conference in 2024, described Dey as a “fingerprint expert” of the detective department.

Kolkata, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which has become active again in the multi-crore coal smuggling case in West Bengal, has issued summons to an inspector-rank officer of West Bengal Police and five coal traders for questioning.

The police officer summoned by the ED is Monoranjan Mondal, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Budbud Police Station under the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate in West Burdwan district.

Earlier, during the previous Trinamool Congress regime in West Bengal, Mondal had been summoned several times by the ED for questioning. However, he allegedly did not respond to the summons and avoided appearing at the agency’s Salt Lake office on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.

Now, with the new regime in place in West Bengal, the ED has issued Mondal a fresh interrogation notice. It remains to be seen whether he responds to the summons this time.

The coal traders summoned by the ED along with Mondal are Krishna Kayal, Ritesh Lokesh Singh, Yudhisthir Ghosh and Narendra Kharka.

Sources aware of the development said 12 other coal traders in West Burdwan district are also under the ED scanner.

In its subsequent chargesheets related to the coal smuggling case in West Bengal, the ED repeatedly claimed that the smuggling operations were carried out through a close nexus involving coal traders, officers of central forces, officials of Coal India Limited subsidiary Eastern Coalfields Limited and a section of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security at public sector coal mines.

Earlier, the ED had also informed a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata about huge amounts allegedly being credited to Mondal’s bank accounts within a short span of time.

Mondal was also accused by the ED of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In March this year, ED officials conducted raid and search operations at Mondal’s residence in Durgapur in West Burdwan district.

Dhaka, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The failure of rape trials in Bangladesh reflects a broader systemic collapse across the entire judicial chain rather than a single flaw. From the filing of the initial complaint to the final stages of cross-examination, the survivor often confronts institutional incompetence and political interference, a report has detailed.

The horrific discovery of the rape and murder of an eight-year-old minor girl, Ramisa, in Dhaka's Pallabi area has once again laid bare a troubling reality, according to a report in Bangladesh’s leading newspaper, The Daily Star.

Her decapitated body was found inside a neighbour's flat — “a site of unimaginable horror where her shoes remained neatly placed outside the door while a life was snuffed out within.”

This comes amid another recent disturbing incident in Netrokona district, where an 11-year-old child was reportedly subjected to a brutal sexual assault, leaving her seven months pregnant.

“These incidents, alongside the older cases of Madhabdi and Sitakunda and many others, prove that the legal system remains a graveyard for rape complaints. These cases follow a predictable and tragic cycle. We see initial horror and outcry, a promise of swift action, and, eventually, years of delay or the case's total disappearance,” the report said, highlighting several incidents of sexual abuse across Bangladesh.

“The fundamental problem lies in the disconnect between paper laws and courtroom practice. While the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act promises quick resolutions, the reality is a backlog so immense that it effectively functions as a denial of justice. Thousands of cases have remained unresolved for more than 5 years,” it added.

The report noted that despite a sharp rise in reported cases of sexual violence, Bangladesh continues to record an abysmally low conviction rate. It added that the judicial system is burdened by a massive backlog that effectively amounts to a denial of justice.

Citing official data from the High Court, the report said that by December 2025, 30,365 cases had been pending in the system for more than 5 years.

Additionally, Dhaka-based rights group Ain o Salish Kendra documented at least 56 girls under the age of 12 who were raped in the first four months of 2026, including 16 children below six years.

The Rape Law Reform Coalition, a group of human rights defenders in Bangladesh, estimated a judicial backlog of over 10 lakh pending cases, with 10,000 rape cases remaining unresolved for over five years. In 2025 alone, the police recorded 7,068 rape cases across Bangladesh, affecting 5,171 adult and 1,897 child victims.

“This data reflects a systemic failure to deliver verdicts, forcing survivors to navigate a process that often feels designed to defeat them,” The report stated.

Gandhinagar, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A major coordinated cybercrime investigation in Gujarat has led to the arrest of 13 accused allegedly linked to a cyber fraud network involving transactions worth over Rs 631.86 crore through mule bank accounts, shell companies and multi-state operations, officials said on Saturday.

The action was carried out under ‘Operation Mule Hunt 2.0’ by the Cyber Centre of Excellence following directives from senior police officials amid a rise in cybercrime cases across the country.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajdeepsinh Jhala said the operation was launched on the basis of technical analysis and human intelligence inputs and executed simultaneously across Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Bharuch and Rajkot.

He said four separate FIRs had been registered over the last four days, leading to the arrest of 13 accused.

“The teams acted in a coordinated manner based on technical and human intelligence inputs under supervision, leading to simultaneous arrests across multiple districts,” SP Jhala said.

According to the police, verification of 45 bank accounts linked to the accused through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) revealed 982 cyber fraud complaints registered across India, with more than 200 FIRs lodged in different states.

The total fraudulent transactions linked to the network are estimated to be worth more than Rs 631.86 crore.

Police said one group allegedly operated through a structured setup using a firm named ‘Saurath Overseas’, under which mule bank accounts were opened to route illicit funds.

Investigators stated that Madhavji Kotadiya, in coordination with Vimal Jada, allegedly used breached databases sourced from Telegram channels and other online platforms to obtain banking customer IDs and mobile numbers, which were then allegedly used to target victims with fake credit card offers.

“Vimal Jada is accused of contacting victims using social engineering techniques, obtaining OTPs from them and subsequently changing bank account passwords to gain unauthorised access. Once access was secured, the funds were allegedly withdrawn and transferred into mule accounts operated by the network,” SP Jhala told IANS.

A separate syndicate based in Ahmedabad and Surat allegedly used firms including ‘SNB Aqua Shipping Private Limited’, ‘Zeppelin Overseas Shipping Private Limited’ and ‘DKG Creation and Technologies Gujarat’ as fronts to open mule bank accounts.

Police said these entities were used to route cyber fraud proceeds and launder money in exchange for commissions.

During raids, details of multiple bank accounts and official records were recovered.

Another module allegedly operated from Vadodara and Bharuch, where individuals used accounts opened under names such as ‘Air Conditioning Hub’ and ‘Works Global’.

According to the police, these accounts were allegedly used to transfer and circulate cybercrime proceeds in exchange for commission payments.

Officials said preliminary interrogation revealed that members of the network earned commissions ranging from four per cent to eight per cent for facilitating fraudulent transactions.

The accused are believed to include mule account holders, handlers and coordinators involved in transferring funds through multiple layers.

Police further stated that the network was linked to several categories of cybercrime, including online financial fraud, internet banking fraud, UPI scams, investment fraud and deposit-related fraud.

Analysis of NCCRP data revealed that complaints were registered across multiple states, including Gujarat (77), Maharashtra (137), Karnataka (126), Uttar Pradesh (87), Tamil Nadu (83), Telangana (64), Delhi (53), Rajasthan (47), West Bengal (46), Haryana (38), Kerala (37), Andhra Pradesh (24), Bihar (23), Madhya Pradesh (19), Odisha (16), Jammu and Kashmir (12), Jharkhand (12), Punjab (12), Chhattisgarh (10), Assam (8), Goa (7), Himachal Pradesh (6), Uttarakhand (5), Puducherry (3), Meghalaya (2), Arunachal Pradesh (1), Tripura (1) and Sikkim (1), taking the total number of complaints nationwide to 982.

Among those arrested from Ahmedabad and Surat were Manish Lodha (39), Ankit Lodha (28), Naveen Vaishnav, Mohit Nahar, Madhavji Kotadiya, Nayan Italia, Nimesh Jetani and Vimal Jada.

From Vadodara and Bharuch, Arbaz Pirzada, Faizan Sodagar, Kasifali Sheikh and Mohammad Memon were arrested, while Hardik Sarvaiya was arrested from Rajkot.

Police said the seized material included 28 mobile phones, 39 cheque books linked to different bank accounts, one passbook, two laptops, 12 ATM/debit cards and four stamps belonging to multiple firms, including SNB Aqua Shipping Private Limited, Zeppelin Overseas Shipping Private Limited and DKG Creation and Technologies.

SP Jhala noted that the investigation had revealed a structured cybercrime ecosystem operating through fake firms and mule accounts to conceal illegal proceeds.

“Further investigation is underway to trace the flow of funds and identify remaining associates involved in the network,” he added.

Authorities reiterated that citizens should never share bank account details or OTPs with anyone.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A packed courtroom, intense public scrutiny and a visibly calm demeanour marked the appearance of the accused Samarth Singh before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Anudita Gupta in Bhopal on Saturday, where he was sent to seven days of police remand in connection with the alleged suicide case of his wife Twisha Sharma.

Samarth was brought to the Magistrate court amid heavy police security, and as he stood in the dock, all eyes in the courtroom remained fixed on him, closely observing his expressions and conduct during the proceedings.

Despite the gravity of the allegations and mounting public attention surrounding the case, he appeared calm and composed throughout the hearing. He was seen interacting normally with his lawyers and showed no visible signs of nervousness or fear.

Notably, unlike his appearance before the Jabalpur District Court on Friday -- where he had covered his face with a mask and cap while surrendering -- Samarth appeared in the Bhopal court without concealing his face.

Twisha's brother Major Harshit Sharma, who was also present during the proceedings at very close distance, later claimed that Samarth displayed no remorse over his wife's death.

"I have not spoken to Samarth, nor did I express any desire to do so. However, there was absolutely no remorse visible on his face regarding his wife's death. There was no sign of grief over his wife's demise on his face when he appeared in court," Major Harshit Sharma said.

Harshit also added that the coming week would be critical after the court granted police seven days' custody of Samarth Singh.

"The court has remanded Samarth to custody for seven days; consequently, this coming week will be extremely crucial. We hope that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes over the case as soon as possible and initiates its investigation," he said talking to IANS.

Reiterating family of Twisha Sharma's demand for a CBI probe, Harshit alleged that the police had delayed action in the matter.

"Our only hope lies with the CBI, which is why we have been repeatedly demanding their intervention. Had the police done their job properly, it would not have taken this long to arrest Samarth," he added.

Though both Samarth Singh and Harshit Sharma remained present inside the same courtroom during the hearing, there was neither any conversation nor eye contact between them, IANS said.

The courtroom was crowded mainly with lawyers, many of whom knew Samarth personally as he practiced as a criminal defence lawyer at the Bhopal District Court. His prominence within the legal circles of Bhopal was further reinforced by the stature of his mother, Giribala Singh, who served in the same judicial institution in several capacities ranging from Magistrate to Principal District Judge before retiring in February 2023.

Giribala Singh has also been named a co-accused in the case related to Twisha Sharma's death.

Samarth Singh was arrested on Friday after surrendering before a court in Jabalpur, nearly 10 days after he allegedly went missing following Twisha Sharma's death, a case that has triggered widespread public attention across Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A team of four senior doctors from the Forensic Medicine Department of AIIMS Delhi is scheduled to arrive in Bhopal on Saturday evening aboard a state-chartered aircraft to conduct a second autopsy on the body of a 33-year-old woman, currently preserved at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary.

The second autopsy will be conducted on Sunday morning.

In a significant development in the mysterious death case involving actress and model Twisha Sharma, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed a fresh autopsy by an expert medical board.

"We received the order and a request from Madhya Pradesh government officials to conduct the post-mortem examination on Sunday morning. Dr Sudhir Gupta, Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, constituted a medical board comprising four senior doctors from AIIMS Delhi, with the approval of the Director, to conduct the autopsy,” AIIMS Delhi said.

“The team, along with the latest instruments, will fly at 6 p.m. today on a state-chartered aircraft,” the statement added.

Following a formal request from the Madhya Pradesh government, a team of four experienced doctors was constituted for the examination.

Equipped with modern forensic instruments, the medical board will conduct a detailed examination and submit its findings to Dr Gupta, who will prepare the final report.

The second autopsy is expected to provide crucial clarity in the high-profile case that has drawn widespread public attention.

The development comes amid rapid progress in the investigation.

Twisha Sharma's husband, Samarth Singh, who had been absconding, withdrew his anticipatory bail plea before his arrest.

He was arrested and brought to Bhopal early on Saturday morning, reaching Katara Hills police station at around 2 a.m.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the police had secured a seven-day remand of Singh for detailed questioning.

In another twist, Samarth Singh's mother, Giribala Singh, a former judge and Chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court, has been served a notice seeking cancellation of her bail over alleged non-cooperation with the police investigation.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in the upscale Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.

The case has witnessed sharp contradictions in the narratives presented by both sides.

While the in-laws have claimed that Twisha was suffering from drug addiction, her family has alleged continuous harassment over dowry demands, which they claim led to her death.

The initial post-mortem examination had left several questions unanswered, prompting the High Court's intervention for a fresh examination by a neutral and expert medical board.

The arrival of the AIIMS Delhi team is being seen as a major step towards ensuring transparency and scientific rigour in the investigation.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The cousin of alleged dowry death victim Twisha Sharma, on Saturday, claimed that her husband Samarth Singh who had "surrendered" a day before, did not display any emotions during court hearings in the case. However, the victim's cousin said that Singh's seven-day remand has given a "ray of hope" for justice.

Interacting with IANS, Twisha's cousin Ashish Sharma said: "We have usually seen that when a person dies, there is a sense of mourning not only within the deceased's family but even among the neighbours. Here, his conduct clearly reflects that he did not have any connection with her. I have even heard others discussing this in the court premises."

A day after the Madhya Pradesh government announced a CBI inquiry into the case, he added: "Even now the accused's family has not stopped using its influence. I believe CBI will carry out an impartial investigation to unmask the culprits."

Ashish Sharma asserted that the case needs to set a precedent that abuse of power against justice leads to dire consequences.

On the second post-mortem being allowed after 11 days, he said: "I think, maybe, many evidences might have got altered."

While clarifying that Samarth Singh being taken into custody is not the objective of the family, Ashish Sharma said: "It has given us a ray of hope. Since yesterday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has been completely impartial, and has followed the expected rule of law. These are very encouraging activities for us to regain our faith."

He also added: "When CBI arrests the culprits and those who have been harassing us, that would be considered as justice."

Twisha Sharma’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, asserted: "I will be satisfied only when we get final justice."

"The CBI should intervene during the seven-day remand of Samarth Singh and take over the investigation," he told IANS.

The victim's brother-in-law, Saurabh Sharma emphasised that the family has full faith on the CBI .

"We have to trust the CBI. From the first day, a lot of things have been taking place. There was a lot of influence from their (Samarth Singh's) side," he said.

He highlighted that since the victim's husband was absconding, no statements could be taken from him.

"Now we hope that the police will interrogate him (Samarth Singh) and bring the facts to light," he said.

About Samarth Singh being sent on seven-day remand, Saurabh Sharma termed it as a "positive sign" and that things are going in their way.

"We cannot bring the girl (Twisha Sharma), but at least we can stand up for her and bring justice," he said.

Coimbatore, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The incident of a 10-year-old girl being kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered near Sulur in Coimbatore district has shaken the entire state of Tamil Nadu, police said on Saturday.

The police have arrested two accused in the incident within 24 hours.

The girl, who lived with her parents in a village near Sulur, had gone to a nearby shop on Thursday evening but did not return home.

When the girl could not be found even after a long time, the worried parents searched the surrounding areas and filed a complaint at the Sulur police station.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and started an extensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the body of a girl was found in the bushes on the banks of the Kannampalayam pond near Sulur on Thursday night.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, murdered and dumped here.

Speaking to the media about the incident, Inspector General of Police (Western Region) R.V. Ramya Bharathi said that immediate action was taken after receiving the complaint.

Five special investigation teams were formed after registering the case.

As part of the investigation, the accused were identified after examining about 250 CCTV footage.

During the police investigation, the main accused was identified as Karthi (33), a native of Nagapattinam. He lived in Pallapalayam near Coimbatore and had separated from his wife.

The police said that Karthi was a daily wage earner and was known to the girl's family and lived nearby.

The police also arrested his accomplice, 30-year-old Mohanraj.

The investigating officers said that both were daily wage earners.

While the police were trying to catch Karthi, the police said that he tried to escape by jumping from the top floor of the building where he was hiding and in the process, he broke his leg and hand. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore government hospital.

The police said that a full post-mortem report is awaited and strict action will be taken against the accused under the POCSO Act.

The authorities have also said that steps have been taken to ensure government assistance to the affected family.

The police said that the culprits were arrested quickly and a charge sheet will be filed soon.

Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) In fresh trouble for jailed Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Khan, an Uttar Pradesh court on Saturday enhanced the sentence of the former MP from seven years to 10 years and raised the penalty imposed on his son from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh in the latter's dual PAN card case.

The Special MP-MLA Court in Rampur also enhanced the penalty imposed on Azam Khan from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh, a lawyer said.

The court decision came in connection with the prosecution's appeal seeking sentence enhancement for the father-son duo serving seven years' imprisonment for the offence of Abdullah Khan possessing two PAN cards with different dates of birth (DOB), the lawyer added.

The former MP and his son were sentenced to seven years' jail each on November 17, 2025, after holding Abdullah Khan guilty of getting a second PAN card made with a wrong date of birth to increase his age on record, making him eligible to contest election.

Earlier, Azam Khan's appeal against his sentencing was dismissed by a court on April 20 this year while the decision on the prosecution's appeal seeking sentence enhancement was delivered on Saturday, the lawyer said.

The case was registered in Civil Lines police station in Rampur on a fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Akash Kumar Saxena on December 6, 2019.

He alleged that one of Abdullah's PAN cards recorded his DOB as January 1, 1993, and the other mentioned September 30, 1990.

After the court decision on Saturday, Saxena said, "This is a historic verdict, enhancing the sentence on an appeal. This is a rare case in which an appeal to increase a convict's sentence has been accepted by court."

Earlier, during the trial, the prosecution succeeded in proving in court that Abdullah Khan, a former MLA, indulged in forgery to qualify for contesting an election and Azam Khan was part of the larger conspiracy.

The prosecution said that Abdullah was underage and did not meet the requirement for a minimum age to contest an election. To increase his age in records, he used a fake DOB and got a second PAN card made.

At the time of the court judgment on November 17 last year, Azam Khan had barely stepped out of jail in another matter.

Complainant Saxena alleged that forged documents were used to prepare the PAN cards that were used for electoral purposes and filing income tax documents.

Kolkata, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has begun preparations to attach the residence of former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas at Kandi in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, an insider in the central probe agency said on Saturday.

Shantanu had already been arrested by the ED in connection with a criminal-linked syndicate case.

On Friday, ED officials broke open the locks of Shantanu’s residence at Kandi and carried out an extensive search operation there. Simultaneously, searches were also conducted at several locations across Kolkata.

During the single-day operation, the ED recovered around two kilograms of gold. Besides, a substantial amount of cash, mobile phones and property-related documents were also seized.

Shantanu hails from Kandi, where his ancestral house is located. He had earlier served as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalighat Police Station and is a resident of Ward No. 8 under Kandi Municipality.

According to the insider, ED officials reached the residence on Friday and waited outside for nearly two-and-a-half hours before breaking open the locks to enter the premises. The search operation continued for several hours.

Local sources claimed that Shantanu's main residence in Kandi had earlier been in a dilapidated condition.

However, over the past few years, it was transformed into what locals described as a “palatial” structure almost overnight.

Notably, Shantanu's sister, Gouri Sinha Biswas, is the Vice-Chairperson of the Trinamool Congress-led Kandi Municipality.

Following Shantanu's arrest, the sprawling residence at Kandi had become the subject of intense public curiosity.

According to ED sources, the agency is now preparing to seize the property.

Central agency officials examined various documents related to the house and also questioned Shantanu’s family members. Preparations for the seizure process have already begun.

ED officials on Friday also conducted searches at three locations in Kolkata in connection with the Sona Pappu case.

Searches were carried out at the residence of a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kolkata Police in Kasba and at the house of businessman Atul Kataria in Chakraberia. It has been alleged that links between them and Sona Pappu had surfaced during the investigation.

Apart from this, an ED team also visited Royd Street in central Kolkata.

In total, search operations were conducted at nine locations. According to ED sources, nearly two kilograms of gold were seized during Friday’s operation alone, with the estimated market value pegged at around Rs 3 crore.

Besides this, cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh was also seized.

ED sources claimed that most chats and other information had been deleted from the mobile phones recovered during the searches. Officials are examining whether the deleted data can be retrieved.

Questioning and further investigation in the matter are continuing.

Dantewada, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Security forces in Chhattisgarh achieved a major success in the ongoing campaign against Maoist activities after recovering and safely destroying a pressure cooker IED (Improvised Explosive Device) weighing around five kg in the dense forest area of Hidpal village under the Barsur police station limits.

Police officials said the timely detection and neutralisation of the IED prevented what could have turned into a major tragedy involving security personnel as well as local civilians.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs received on Saturday, a joint team comprising the District Police, the ‘Young Platoon’ and the Bomb Disposal Squad of the 195th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon and search operation in the hilly and forested areas around Hidpal village, officials said.

The operation began early in the morning at around 5 a.m. under the guidance of Second-in-Command Vikrant Verma and Assistant Commandant Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The teams moved cautiously through the difficult terrain, focusing on areas considered vulnerable to Naxalite presence and hidden explosive devices.

During the intensive search operation at around 8.20 a.m., security personnel spotted a suspicious object concealed inside the forest area.

Showing high alertness and strictly following safety protocols, the personnel immediately cordoned off the area and called in experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Upon careful examination, the suspicious object was confirmed to be a pressure cooker IED allegedly planted by Maoists with the intention of targeting security personnel and creating fear among local residents.

Using specialised technical procedures, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) successfully neutralised and destroyed the explosive device on the spot without any untoward incident.

The timely action by the security forces averted a potentially devastating attack.

Additional search operations were later conducted in nearby sensitive areas to ensure complete area domination and rule out the presence of any other hidden explosives.

The entire operation concluded successfully at around 10.55 a.m., with all officers and personnel returning safely to their respective base camps.

No casualties or injuries were reported during the operation.

Kolkata, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A group of miscreants allegedly went on a rampage inside a girls’ school in south Kolkata in the early hours of Saturday, prompting a police probe.

The incident took place around 4.30 a.m. at Kamala Chatterjee Girls’ High School under the jurisdiction of Gariahat Police Station. Acting on a complaint, the police have initiated an investigation.

The school authorities said that one of their buildings is not their own; rather, it is a rented premise where classes for the primary and secondary sections are held. They claimed that the act of vandalism was specifically carried out within this particular building.

The school is equipped with surveillance cameras, which captured a group of youths scaling the main gate in the early hours of Saturday morning to gain entry into the school premises. Subsequently, they proceeded to vandalise the building.

School Headmistress Debjani Das said, "When I arrived at the school in the morning today, I saw that everything had been damaged. Everything was recorded on the CCTV camera. A complaint has been filed with the police as well as the district school inspector."

According to sources in the District School Education Department, the next step will be taken after speaking to the headmistress next Monday. The vandalism inside a school in Kolkata has raised questions about the safety and security in educational institutions.

The education department has also taken serious note of the incident, soon after the news broke.

According to sources in the District School Education Department, the matter is being viewed very seriously. A discussion will be held with the headmistress to handle the situation and ensure the safety of the school. A final decision will be taken on the next legal and administrative action.

Mumbai, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major crackdown, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested three alleged criminals who had reportedly arrived in the city to sell illegal foreign-made weapons, officials said on Saturday.

They added that the accused, all from outside Maharashtra, were apprehended during a late-night operation carried out on the basis of specific Intelligence inputs.

According to police officials, credible information was received indicating that certain individuals carrying weapons were on their way to Mumbai.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Crime Branch laid a trap near a public toilet located on P.D. Mello Road close to St. George Hospital.

Around 10:45 P.M. on Friday, the three accused were caught red-handed during the operation.

Police recovered three firearms, magazines and 45 live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Officials said the ammunition and weapons bore the inscription 'Made in China'.

However, investigators are now trying to determine the actual source and route through which the weapons entered the country, making the origin of the Chinese-marked arms a key aspect of the ongoing probe.

The arrested accused have been identified as 24-year-old Jashanpreet Mangal Singh and 24-year-old Sukhwinder Singh, both residents of Patiala in Punjab, and Arbaz, a resident of Jhalawar in Rajasthan, officials mentioned.

They said all three have serious criminal backgrounds and multiple cases registered against them.

Investigators further revealed that two of the accused had allegedly been absconding since 2022 in connection with a murder case and had been on the radar of law enforcement agencies for a long time. Arbaz alone is stated to have as many as 19 criminal cases registered against him.

According to preliminary investigations, the accused were allegedly planning to supply and sell the weapons to local criminals operating in Mumbai and nearby areas.

Following the arrests, a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered against them at Mumbai's M.R.A. Marg Police Station.

Officials said the investigation is now being expanded to uncover the larger network behind the illegal arms supply racket. Police teams are examining all possible links, including whether the accused had any association with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The Crime Branch is also trying to establish whether the seized weapons were part of a larger consignment meant for organised criminal groups operating across different states.

Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Samarth Singh, husband of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma and the prime accused in her alleged suicide case, was sent to seven days of police remand by a Bhopal district court on Saturday. He was produced before the court amid tight security, a day after being taken into custody from Jabalpur.

Prior to his court appearance, Samarth was taken to Jai Prakash (J.P.) Hospital for a mandatory medical examination under police supervision. He was later brought to the district court in a heavily guarded convoy.

A large police deployment was made at the court premises to manage the crowd and prevent any untoward incident, given the public attention surrounding the case. Samarth was escorted into the courtroom of Judicial Magistrate Anudita Gupta under tight security.

He was produced around 3:15 p.m., following which the court granted police custody remand for seven days.

Police had sought custodial remand to facilitate further interrogation in connection with Twisha Sharma’s death.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh said Samarth was brought to Bhopal late on Friday night after being detained in Jabalpur.

He added that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have assisted Samarth while he remained untraceable for about 10 days after the incident.

“If it is found that someone provided him shelter or helped him evade arrest, action will be taken against them as well,” he said.

Samarth Singh had been missing since May 12, the day Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home under the Katara Hills police station area.

The case sparked public outrage, with allegations of dowry harassment against her husband and in-laws.

Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma's family on Saturday welcomed the decision of a CBI probe and demanded a speedy investigation along with a fast-track trial to ensure quick justice to the young woman and her family.

Speaking to IANS, Twisha Sharma’s cousin said that action in the case had been delayed initially, but recent developments in the judiciary had raised hopes for a fair investigation. “Overall, we feel that the action taken in the case was quite delayed. However, the judiciary has recently taken several important decisions. Permission has now been granted, and the court has also observed that the bail granted to Giribala Singh was taken in haste. I welcome this decision of CBI probe and hope that the CBI will investigate the matter properly and without delay,” the cousin said.

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday took suo motu cognisance of "deeply disturbing" media reports regarding an alleged acid attack and extreme domestic cruelty against a woman in Pune.

The case involves a man who allegedly poured floor-cleaning acid on his wife's private parts over suspicion of an extramarital affair, confined her inside the house for several days, and denied her medical treatment, according to the Commission.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to the Director General of Police, Maharashtra, "directing immediate, stringent, and time-bound action in the matter".

The Commission has also sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

The Commission has sought the ATR on the FIR registered in the matter, provisions invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), status of investigation, arrest, and custodial interrogation of the accused, medical treatment and forensic examination of the survivor, and recovery of the chemical substance used in the crime.

The NCW also sought details regarding measures taken to ensure the safety, protection, and rehabilitation of the survivor and her children, and directed that the investigation be conducted with "utmost sensitivity and urgency".

"The National Commission for Women has strongly condemned the incident and stated that crimes involving acid attacks, domestic torture, and violence against women are heinous in nature and must invite the strictest action under law," the Commission added.

This incident took place in the Uruli Kanchan region of Pune, where a man is accused of pouring acid on his 24-year-old wife's intimate areas and keeping her locked in the home for almost 15 days.

The incident occurred on April 20 when the suspect came home intoxicated and confronted his wife about an alleged affair. The dispute escalated into violence, with the husband reportedly abusing and attacking her.

The accused was also frustrated about having daughters instead of a son. During their altercation, he is said to have taken a bottle of acid and assaulted the woman, causing her extreme pain. When she attempted to flee, he is alleged to have confined her within the house and assaulted her again.

The victim supposedly went without medical care for several days and only managed to escape after nearly 15 days, after which she reached out to her relatives, leading to the revelation of the crime. The police are currently investigating the case.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) After the Madhya Pradesh government recommended a CBI enquiry into the suspicious death of actress Twisha Sharma, her family on Saturday welcomed the decision and demanded a speedy investigation along with a fast-track trial to ensure quick justice to the young woman and her family.

I welcome this decision and hope that the CBI will investigate the matter properly and without delay,” the cousin said.

Referring to the arrest of Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband, the family member further alleged that the accused had received support from influential people earlier.

“As everyone saw, the accused was sitting inside the court premises. But now those who were supporting him will realise that extending such support is against the law,” the relative added.

Twisha Sharma’s uncle, Lokesh Sharma, also made serious allegations against the accused family. “This is a completely criminal family, and those supporting them are also miscreants and mafia elements,” he claimed.

Twisha’s sister, Swati Sharma, urged authorities to ensure a swift probe and speedy court proceedings. “My request is that the CBI investigation should be completed as soon as possible, and the case should be put on a fast-track trial so that a quick decision can be delivered,” she said.

Saurabh Sharma, Twisha’s brother-in-law, alleged that there had been attempts to protect Samarth Singh from legal action. “For the last ten days, we have observed that Samarth, his mother, and their supporters were trying in every possible way to shield him. I was personally present in Jabalpur and saw that inside the court premises nobody was being allowed to meet him. The room was closed, and Samarth was sitting there comfortably,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, Additional DCP Anil Sharma defended the police investigation and said all procedures had been followed from the beginning of the case.

“From the very first day, the police carried out all necessary procedures and made full efforts to arrest the accused. No matter who the accused is, they always try to evade the police, but they cannot stay away for long. Eventually, we arrested him yesterday,” the officer said.

Mehsana, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A major food adulteration racket involving the use of prohibited colouring agents in fennel seeds was uncovered in Unjha of Mehsana district after a raid by the Gujarat Food and Drug Regulatory Authority’s flying squad from Gandhinagar, officials said on Saturday.

During the operation at Ganpati Cleaning Factory in Unjha, Food Safety Officers seized 3,548 kilograms of loose fennel seeds allegedly mixed with prohibited green colour to enhance their appearance.

Officials also confiscated 140 kilograms of green adulterant colour believed to have been used in the process. The total value of the seized stock has been estimated at around Rs 3.30 lakh.

The action was carried out as part of a statewide special drive against food adulteration being conducted under the instructions of State Health Minister Praful Pansheriya.

The state government said it was adopting a “zero tolerance” policy against elements involved in adulteration and activities affecting public health.

According to officials, a surprise inspection was conducted by the flying squad at the factory on Friday.

During the preliminary investigation, authorities found that prohibited colour was allegedly being mixed into fennel seeds to give them an attractive green appearance before distribution in the market.

Officials also found that the factory operators did not possess a valid food licence issued by the competent authority for manufacturing food products at the premises.

Authorities said the operation revealed not only alleged risks to public health but also violations of food safety regulations.

The entire stock was seized and samples of the fennel seeds as well as the green colouring substance used as an adulterant were sent to a laboratory for analysis and testing.

Officials said further legal action would be initiated against the owners of the factory after the laboratory analysis report is received.

Pansheriya directed officials to take strict action under relevant legal provisions once the report is submitted.

Pansheriya said the state government remained committed to protecting public health through continuous inspections and monitoring activities. “Strict and punitive action against illegal activities and adulterators will continue in the future as well,” he said.

The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority has been carrying out inspections and enforcement drives in different parts of Gujarat as part of efforts to curb the sale and distribution of adulterated food products.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh on Saturday said the police will seek a seven-day remand of Samarth Singh, husband of deceased Twisha Sharma, for further interrogation in the alleged dowry death case.

Addressing a press conference, the Police Commissioner said Samarth was brought to Bhopal late at night after being taken into custody from Jabalpur on Friday evening. “First, we will get his medical done and file a PR from the Court. We will ask for 7 days' remand. He was brought in late at night. Some procedures still take time. We'll interrogate him further, and only then can we say anything,” Singh said.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have helped Samarth evade the police during the 10 days he remained untraceable after Twisha’s death. “If something comes to light that someone sheltered him, action will be taken against them as well,” the Police Commissioner said.

Sharing details of the developments at the Jabalpur district court on Friday evening, Singh said Samarth had reached the court to surrender, but the court did not permit it. “He had come to the court in Jabalpur to surrender, but the court refused to let him surrender. Meanwhile, my team was also there. Then, my team took him into custody with the help of the Jabalpur police team,” he added.

Samarth Singh had been missing since May 12, after his wife, Twisha Sharma, was found hanging at her marital home in Bag Mugalia Extension in Bhopal.

Meanwhile, amid allegations of delay and inaction by the police, Additional DCP Anil Sharma told IANS that the investigation was carried out strictly in accordance with the law and denied any negligence on the part of the police.

“There has been absolutely no laxity in this matter. Investigative processes invariably involve individuals who are both influential and non-influential. However, the police conduct their operations strictly in accordance with the law and established procedures,” Sharma told IANS.

He further said that the Bhopal Police had coordinated with the Jabalpur district police to trace and arrest Samarth Singh.

While the Bhopal Police maintain that Samarth was arrested from the premises of the Jabalpur district court, his lawyer has claimed that he had voluntarily surrendered before the court.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Fresh CCTV footage showing Twisha Sharma visiting a beauty salon in Bhopal hours before her death has surfaced, adding a new dimension to the probe into her alleged suicide.

According to salon owner Kiran Parihar, Twisha visited the parlour on May 12 at around 3.12 p.m. and remained there for nearly three hours. During her visit, Twisha underwent a head massage and pedicure before leaving the salon around 6.15 p.m.

The CCTV footage surfaced on social media shows Twisha appearing calm and relaxed during her stay at the parlour, with no visible signs of distress.

Parihar said Twisha was a regular customer at the salon and had visited several times in the past. The salon owner also revealed that the next morning after Twisha’s death, her mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, contacted the salon seeking details about the visit.

According to Parihar, Giribala Singh repeatedly asked about the exact time Twisha had arrived and left, whether she had made any payment, and whether there was any proof confirming her presence at the salon.

Parihar said Twisha had not made any payment during the visit because she already had a prepaid package purchased earlier, around the time of her brother’s wedding.

She further claimed that Giribala Singh later specifically requested the CCTV footage and informed her that Twisha had died by suicide.

Soon afterwards, a group of five to six unidentified people dressed in black-and-white clothes resembling lawyers allegedly arrived at the salon claiming they had come on behalf of the police to collect the footage.

Parihar said the CCTV footage was extracted after a technician was called to the salon. It is a fact that CCTV technician Rohit Vishwakarma had visited Giribala Singh's house late at night on May 12.

Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12.

Her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh of mental harassment and dowry-related abuse.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh, who had remained missing for 10 days after the incident, was arrested on Friday in Jabalpur and was brought to Bhopal early morning.

Jalandhar, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Jalandhar, has arrested Ajay Sehgal, Secretary of the Indian Cooperative House Building Society, in a money laundering case linked to the submission of forged consent letters used to fraudulently obtain Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions for the Suntec City real estate project from the Government of Punjab, officials said on Saturday.

The arrest was made on Friday following an investigation initiated on the basis of an FIR registered by the Punjab Police.

The complaint originated from farmers who alleged that their consent signatures had been forged to facilitate the CLU approvals.

According to the ED, investigation has revealed that Ajay Sehgal, acting through the cooperative housing society, prepared fake consent letters relating to 30.5 acres of land belonging to 15 landowners.

These allegedly forged documents were then used to secure CLU permission for developing a large-scale real estate project named 'Suntec City'.

Officials said the consent letters carried forged signatures and thumb impressions of landowners, which were used to obtain regulatory approvals for the project.

The ED further stated that earlier search operations were conducted on May 7 at eight locations linked to the Indian Cooperative House Building Society and ABS Township Private Limited.

During these searches, cash amounting to Rs 21 lakh was allegedly thrown from the balcony of a liaison businessman, identified as Nitin Gohel, which scattered on the road below before being recovered by ED officials.

The agency also found that apart from residential plots, Ajay Sehgal was involved in the development of La Canela residential multi-storey complex and District 7 commercial complex, both of which were built on the basis of CLU permissions allegedly obtained through forged consent documents.

According to the investigation, units in these projects were being sold even before obtaining proper registration and approval from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), with total sales exceeding Rs 200 crore from allegedly unauthorised transactions.

It was also revealed that the accused had not transferred plots earmarked for the Economically Weaker Sections to the Estate Officer of GMADA to date.

The ED further stated that, contrary to earlier proceedings before the High Court, only partial revocation of CLU for 30 acres was carried out under Section 85 of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, instead of stricter action under Section 90 of the same Act.

Officials said the role of senior officials and authorities in the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is also under investigation.

The ED has indicated that further arrests are likely in the case, and the probe may reach higher-level officials who allegedly facilitated or supported the accused in exchange for illegal benefits.

The agency added that its investigation has uncovered large-scale irregularities in approvals granted by GMADA and the Department of Town and Country Planning for Suntec City and other similar projects, alleging that illegal gratifications were used to benefit developers at the cost of farmers and landowners in Punjab.

Mumbai, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Western Cyber Police Station in Mumbai on Saturday registered a criminal case against individuals accused of spreading false and misleading information on social media regarding the recent government demolition drive in Bandra East.

According to cyber police officials, the action was initiated after authorities noticed a post circulating on the social media platform X on May 22. The post allegedly contained fabricated and baseless claims related to the eviction and demolition operation carried out by government authorities in the Bandra East area of Mumbai.

Police said the content was allegedly shared through electronic media with the intention of disturbing public peace, creating fear among citizens, and triggering tension between communities. Investigators believe the misleading information was deliberately circulated in a manner that could harm communal harmony and create unrest in the city.

Based on preliminary findings, Mumbai Cyber Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the individual operating the social media account as well as the person who allegedly recorded and circulated the related video.

Officials stated that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found spreading fake information online or attempting to disturb law and order through social media platforms.

Mumbai Police also issued a public advisory urging citizens to use social media responsibly and refrain from forwarding or sharing unverified information.

Police warned that circulating false or misleading information through social media or any other communication platform is a punishable offence under the law. Authorities further stated that any attempt to spread fear, create communal tension, or hurt religious sentiments through online content could lead to serious legal consequences.

Officials appealed to the public to verify information through official sources before sharing it online and advised people to immediately report suspicious or inflammatory content to law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, on May 22, Mumbai Police had registered an FIR in another cyber-related case involving an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to police, the manipulated video was allegedly circulated online with the intention of damaging the Prime Minister’s public image.

The accused in that case, identified as Nafis Alam, allegedly created and uploaded the edited video containing abusive language. Further investigation into both matters is currently underway.

Bengaluru, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A sexual harassment case has been registered against a boxing coach associated with the private boxing club at a reputed Stadium in Bengaluru. The legal action follows allegations by a 17-year-old boxer and her mother, who accused him of inappropriate behavior and harassment.

The incident is reported within the limits of the Sampangiramnagar police station.

Following the mother's complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, alongside Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. An investigation is currently underway.

The complaint was filed on May 22 by the victim's mother. According to the police, the minor has been training at the Lions Boxing Club for nearly a decade.

The accused is a 50-year-old who served as the teenager's boxing coach. The complaint states that he had been harassing the minor girl for the past four years, with the alleged incidents increasing in frequency over the last five to six months.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused repeatedly attempted to establish inappropriate physical closeness with the girl and touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions at Kanteerava Stadium.

The complaint further details an incident on May 17, while the team was in Chennai for a boxing competition. The coach allegedly summoned the minor to his private room, where he touched her inappropriately, forcibly kissed her, and engaged in misconduct.

Furthermore, the complainant alleged that the accused threatened the victim with severe consequences, warning that he would kill her if she informed her family about the abuse. The FIR also notes that a formal complaint regarding the harassment had previously been submitted to an internal committee.

The complainant has stated to the police that a complaint has also been lodged with the committee against the accused coach.

"The accused has been touching my daughter inappropriately with the intention of having a physical relationship. After touching her inappropriately in his private room, he verbally abused her. He had behaved similarly at a stadium in Bengaluru as well," the mother has charged.

She further alleged, "The accused had threatened my daughter that if she informed family members about this matter, she would not be spared of her life. An investigation is currently underway.

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major breakthrough, the staff of Police Station Madhu Vihar in East Delhi busted an active snatching gang and arrested four accused on Saturday. The criminals were involved in multiple cases of mobile phone snatching and thefts across the district. Police recovered two stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the commission of the crimes.

The accused were apprehended near Ghazipur Gol Chakkar in the Khichripur area following sustained surveillance, technical investigation, and local Intelligence gathering.

Police officials said the successful operation reflects the East District Police’s continued efforts to curb street crime and ensure public safety.

According to police, the case originated from a complaint lodged on May 15 at PS Madhu Vihar. The victim alleged that his mobile phone had been snatched near Telco T-Point, Hassanpur, during the intervening night of May 14 and 15 at around 3 A.M.

Based on the complaint, an FIR No. 169/2026 was registered under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was launched immediately.

Considering the seriousness of the offence and the increasing incidents of street crime in the area, a dedicated police team comprising Head Constable Sachin Tyagi, Head Constable Arun, and Head Constable Neeraj was formed under the leadership of SHO Rajesh Vijay Vargis and under the supervision of ACP Tilak Chandra Bisht.

During the investigation, police analysed footage from nearly 100 CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene and adjoining routes. Officials said continuous surveillance, local enquiries, and technical analysis helped establish the movement pattern and identities of the accused persons.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted a raid near Ghazipur Gol Chakkar, Khichripur, where all four accused were apprehended successfully.

The arrested accused have been identified as Vishal alias Atul, 26, Rajesh alias Raje, 24, Raj Kumar alias Shetty, 39, and Ram Prakash alias Anil, 29, all residents of Khichripur, Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the present case and other criminal activities. Based on their disclosure, police recovered a grey-coloured OnePlus mobile phone linked to an e-FIR registered under Section 303(2) BNS, a Lava mobile phone connected to another FIR registered at PS Madhu Vihar, and a black Hero Splendor motorcycle bearing registration number DL3R-22, which was used in the offence.

Police said two of the accused are habitual offenders with extensive criminal records. Raj Kumar alias Shetty, who is listed as a 'Bad Character' at PS Kalyanpuri, is allegedly involved in 21 criminal cases in Delhi. Another accused, Ram Prakash alias Anil, is also listed as a 'Bad Character' and has previously been involved in eight criminal cases.

The remaining accused, Vishal and Rajesh, reportedly worked as labourers and were allegedly drug addicts. Vishal had earlier been involved in two criminal cases, while no previous criminal record was found against Rajesh.

All four accused were produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in additional criminal cases across Delhi.

Thiruvananthapuram, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A massive cyber fraud racket has surfaced in Kerala, with online scammers allegedly exploiting the soaring popularity of Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to run a sophisticated money-making operation through fake social media accounts.

In a shocking case that has triggered alarm within government circles, fraudsters created a fake Facebook page titled “Chief Minister VDS” and began demanding a monthly subscription fee of Rs 89 from followers to access the Chief Minister’s posts, updates and exclusive content.

The scam has exposed what cyber experts describe as a growing online mafia operating across Instagram and Facebook, using the names and images of political leaders, film stars, and influencers to mint money from unsuspecting followers.

A simple search for V.D. Satheesan on Facebook throws up several accounts, but investigators say one particular page boasting more than 5.89 lakh followers has become the centre of concern.

Cyber officials suspect that the operators behind the page may already have pocketed lakhs of rupees through paid subscriptions.

The exact number of subscribers, however, remains unclear as the page administrators have reportedly hidden the details deliberately.

The subscription model is commonly used by celebrities and influencers to offer exclusive reels, posts and live videos to paying fans.

Investigators believe the fraudsters cleverly misused this feature to give the fake page an appearance of authenticity.

The Chief Minister’s Office has now stepped in with an official clarification, warning the public that there is only one verified Facebook page operated in the Chief Minister’s name and that any account demanding money is completely fake.

Sources in the cyber police said the scam is being treated with utmost seriousness, particularly because it involves impersonation of a constitutional authority.

Officials are now coordinating with Meta to identify and shut down the fake pages.

Police are also tracing the bank accounts, payment gateways and IP addresses linked to the operation.

With political leaders increasingly becoming social media crowd-pullers, investigators fear similar fake subscription rackets may already be thriving across platforms unnoticed.

Coimbatore, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The investigation into the shocking abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore gathered pace on Saturday after the second accused, Mohanraj, was produced before the Sulur Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded to judicial custody (JC) till May 27.

Police officials said investigations are continuing to uncover further details surrounding the crime that has triggered widespread outrage across the region.

Police had earlier arrested two men — Karthik (33), a native of Nagapattinam currently residing at Pallapalayam near Coimbatore, and his associate Mohanraj — in connection with the case.

Inspector General of Police (West Zone) R.V. Ramya Bharathi confirmed the arrests and said special teams are continuing to probe every aspect of the incident.

According to police sources, the accused were known to the victim’s family and allegedly lured the child away from her neighbourhood on Thursday evening on the pretext of buying chocolates.

Investigators later traced the suspects using footage collected from surveillance cameras installed in the area. The girl’s body was subsequently recovered from the Kannampalayam tank near Coimbatore on Friday, sending shockwaves across the district.

Police also said Karthik sustained fractures to his leg and hand while allegedly attempting to escape from custody during the course of the investigation. Officials are verifying all circumstances surrounding the incident while gathering additional evidence.

The brutal murder triggered anger among local residents, leading to a prolonged road blockade outside the Sulur police station on Tiruchi Road.

The protest, which began around 9 p.m. on Friday, continued until nearly 5 a.m. on Saturday. Traffic along the busy arterial stretch had to be diverted through alternate routes as authorities worked to restore normalcy.

Senior police officials, including IG R.V. Ramya Bharathi, Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Saminathan and Coimbatore Rural Superintendent of Police Allatipalli Pavan Kumar Reddy, camped at Sulur overnight and supervised the investigation being carried out by special teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Karikal Pari Shankar.

Around 300 police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

TVK’s Sulur MLA N.M. Sukumar, who visited the protest site late on Friday night, assured agitated residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. Following the arrests, the protest was withdrawn, although grief and anger continue to prevail in the locality.
