The Tiers and Divisions in League of Legends

Before understanding the point system, you must get a clear concept of the ranking.

When do you enter the LOL Ranked Mode?

Players can get to play the ranked mode only after crossing 30 initial levels and owning 16 champions. Once you have won five provisional games, you will soon start to play in ranked mode.

What are the Ranks and Divisions in League of Legends?

While there are 10 ranks or tiers in the game, the first seven tiers have further divisions of 4 levels each. You will start with the rank Iron, progressing to Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, and finally Diamond. In any rank from Iron to Diamond, there are four divisions for each, which are numbered in Roman numerals. The lowest level is numbered as IV, and the top-most division is numbered as I. So, you will have to start with division IV, gradually progressing to III, then II, and then finally I. You will have to cross all the divisions of a rank successfully to proceed to the next rank.

The Apex Tiers

Once you have crossed the Diamond tier, you reach the 3 Apex tiers. These are Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger. The Apex tiers or ranks do not have divisions. In fact, here players fight each other for the first position on the leaderboard to reach the next rank. So, as you keep on playing and earning points, you can surpass the players on the leaderboard to reach the top. Now, when you have gathered the recommended LP, you will soon get promoted to the next rank.

The League of Legends Points System

With the onset of the ranked mode, the players get to play with points, which are also known as LP. As you earn points with every win, you can even lose these points when you lose a battle. The amount of points earned or lost depends on different factors combined, such as the ranks of the team members, the opponent’s difficulty level, and many others.

How Many Points Promote Your Rank in LOL?

As soon as you start playing the LOL ranked mode, you start with 1 LP in Division IV of Iron rank. As you keep on playing the games and winning battles, you keep on earning points. Once you earn 100 LP or more, you progress from one division to a higher one. Any remaining points get rolled over to the next division and then the next rank.

Point System for Apex Tiers

Once you have crossed all the 7 tiers or ranks in the game, it is time to enter the Apex tiers, which are Master, Grand Master, and Challenger ranks. It is time to up your game now. While earlier, you needed 100 LP to move to the next rank, you will need 400 LP to promote from the Diamond tier to the first Apex tier of the game Master.

Similarly, you can only enter Challenger rank if you have collected 500 LP in Grand Master on or after reaching the top of the leaderboard. However, this is one of the most challenging ranks. So, anyone reaching this rank is someone elite and professional at the game. Of course, you can reach this rank too with utmost practice and dedication.

How do You Lose Points in LOL?

Losing LP is one of the most daunting situations for any player in League of Legends. This happens usually when you lose a game. When you reach 0 LP and continue losing in the game, you will be demoted to the lower division of your rank. In fact, you can even get demoted to a

lower rank. This is where most players get stuck and start losing interest in the game.
