Hyderabad, Dec 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Telangana state Congress chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday resigned from the post, owning moral responsibility for the party's defeat in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

Reddy said, in a statement, that he has requested the party's central leadership to take up the process of selection of new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee immediately.

The Congress faced a severe drubbing with its candidates winning only two divisions in the 150-member GHMC. The party had a similar fate in the 2016 polls.

Reddy, who is also a member of Lok Sabha, said he had sent his resignation to the central leadership in the past. He has requested the All India Congress Committee once again to accept the same.

Reddy had led the party's campaign in the GHMC polls. Party's state leaders had participated in the campaign.

Unlike the BJP, which brought its national President and several Union Ministers for the campaign, the Congress campaign was a low-key affair.

Adding to Congress' troubles, its leader and former MP Konda Vishweshwer Reddy, in his reaction to GHMC polls, stated that people are against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and they feel that only the BJP can take on the TRS.

The GHMC polls threw a hung municipal body. The TRS emerged as single largest party with 55 seats and BJP won 46 seats to be the second largest party. Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) bagged 43 seats.

The 32-year-old, who was 27 then, piled on runs with utmost ease and smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground. He was dismissed on the final ball of the Indian innings, but not before powering India to 404/5.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out of 251 and lost the match by 153 runs.

Kolkata, Nov 12 (IANS) Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Delhi Dynamos head coach Miguel Angel Portugal felt the India U-17 World Cup pair of goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh and winger Komal Thatal have the quality to play in Europe.

"They have a good goalkeeper and a good winger. It's possible in the future they can play in Europe. But for that to happen they need a good coach and the right kind of development," Miguel told reporters during the ISL media day here.

Thatal played just one match in the FIFA U-17 World Cup against the USA which India lost 0-3 while Dheeraj impressed one and all during his stay under the bar in all the three Group A games.

She said this figure is "more than 45 per cent of the total spectator count."

"Next highest is Delhi with 19.78 per cent. The per match spectator average in India is 25,906, while in Kolkata it is 55,345 - more than double. It is all about our passion for football and the excellent arrangements at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan," she added.

Phillip Foden -- later adjudged the golden ball winner for his superb display -- struck a brace (69th and 88th minutes), and Rhian Brewster (44th), Morgan Gibbs-White (58th) and Marc Guehi (84th) scored one apiece for England who continued their dream run of 2017, having earlier clinched the U-20 World Cup and the U-19 European championships.

For Spain, Sergio Gomez scored both goals (10th, 31st), before a capacity crowd of more than 66,000, who cheered on both teams, making it a cracker of an atmosphere at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

"There has been quite a bit on social media with David Beckham, and first team England players. There have been loads of messages on social media from back home. "Our forwards played well first 40 minutes, then the England goal really hurt us," Denia told mediapersons at the post match presser.

"England took a step forward by pressuring us up front that forced us to play possession game and they are very good at transition game. We had open spaces at the back and we did have some chances. But we did not have as much control as we would have liked," the coach said.

Denia said his team was confident of victory going into the break with a 2-1 lead. The Spaniards considered the match open even when England went up 3-2 in the second session.

"Until 3-2 it was an open game but after that we had to go forward and leave spaces behind and we conceded goals. We had a very clear chance when it was 3-2 but after that England made it 4-2 and we lost the game at that stage," the former Atletico Madrid player said.

Asked why Spain failed to stop England's wingplay, he said: "We had prepared a plan to curb England's wingplay by deploying the left and right back with the midfielders to help them. As you guys saw, they (England) have very good technical players who can play inside. And Foden also cut in from the right. We knew that but we didn't lay well."

Denia said he was broken after the defeat but still proud of the work the team has done over the past two years,

"That goes beyond the result of final. We have accomplished as a team. We are runners up, we are Euro champions. I am proud of that," he said.

England lifted their maiden World Cup in front of a 66,684 sellout crowd at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here.

After Sergio Gomez's brace had put the European champions in front (10th, 31st), Rhian Brewster (44th), Morgan Gibbs-White (58th) and Marc Guehi (84th) scored one apiece while Phil Foden -- later adjudged the Golden Ball winner for his superb display -- struck a brace (69th and 88th minutes) to pull off an amazing comeback.

"It's easy to say this now. I really did not think there was real panic. We should have scored in the first minute was it? We the ones who took the initiative... we pressed a lot higher and played forward a lot more," Cooper, with the trophy kept in front of him, told reporters.

"We were even in control of the game being 2-0 down. We stuck to our plan. Halftime talk was positive and we played good football without that cutting edge," Cooper said.

"To be 2-0 down in a World Cup (final) and in my opinion against the run of play... To comeback and win 5-2 tells you everything about the character of English players," he said.

Cooper reserved special praise for India as hosts and especially Kolkata, where England played six of their seven World Cup matches.

"I have to say thank you to India and Kolkata deserves special mention. The six out of seven games we have played out here... it's been an amazing experience. It's easy to say that sitting out here. But honestly, whatever happened today, we will go back much better professionals and better England players and staff. I want to go on record and say India has hosted a top tournament in so many ways," Cooper said.

Asked if England, who have stuck to possession-based football throughout the tournament much like Spain's fabled 'tiki taka', beat the La Rojita in their own game, Cooper said: "We beat Spain playing our own game. We thought this is how we want to play. England teams will typify that. So if it's similar to the Spanish game, it's great that they have been successful but this is us doing our thing our way."

Cooper did not want to single out Foden for praise, saying he had 21 stories to tell about the 21 players in the England squad as to what went behind winning the World Cup.

"Foden got the Golden Ball but each of the 21 members have got a gold medal around their neck. I am not the one to talk about individuals. Joel (Latibeaudiere) and Angel (Gomes), the non-playing captain picked up the trophy together without anyone telling them. This typifies the togetherness in our team. I can give you 21 stories about the 21 players why we won the World Cup."

The feeling, Cooper said, would sink in on Sunday morning once they have realised what they have done.

"The feeling is... I am speechless. The feeling is little bit surreal. I think it might feel a little better tomorrow once we realise what we have done. The players were fantastic all throughout the tournament, the staff. In my opinion, we are worthy winners of the tournament... the way we played, the goals we scored, ones we conceded. The football that we played... individual talent, team identity and the character and personality we showed."

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) England rallied brilliantly to wipe out a two-goal deficit and steamroll Spain 5-2 in a thrilling final to annex their maiden FIFA U-17 World Cup title here on Saturday.

Phillip Foden -- later adjudged the golden ball winner for his superb display -- struck a brace (69th and 88th minutes), and Rhian Brewster (44th), Morgan Gibbs-White (58th) and Marc Guehi (84th) scored one apiece for England who continued their dream run of 2017, having earlier clinched the U-20 World Cup and the U-19 European championships.

For Spain, Sergio Gomez scored both goals (10th, 31st), before a capacity crowd of more than 66,000, who cheered on both teams, making it a cracker of an atmosphere at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

Spain were clinical in the first half, playing a beautiful attacking game, while allowing England 58 per cent of the possession.

But Steve Cooper's charges were all over their opponents after the breather, with Foden pulling the strings by operating from the right. He and Callum Hudson-Odoi struck up a fine combination from the right, that pulverized the Spanish defence in the second session.

Spain took an early lead through a combined move. From left, skipper Abel Ruiz fed Juan Miran, who crossed for Cesar Gelabert. The Real Madrid forward headed down, and Gomez tapped in from close.

La Rojita doubled the margin, with the Barcelona forward striking again. Ruiz sent a deep cross from the right, Gomez controlled the ball well, and then let go a rasping left footer on the bounce into the far corner of the net.

Down 0-2, England boys made a determined bit to come back into the game, and came close to scoring twice.

First, Foden headed wide, and then Hudson-Odoi fired a right footer from 20 yards, that swerved and crashed into the base of the far post.

England, however, kept up the momentum, and reduced the margin close to half.

Steven Sessegnon crossed from the right into the six yard box, and Brewster headed home to take his goal tally to eight in the tournament. The Liverpool forward, who struck back-to-back hat-tricks in the quarter-final and semi-final, won the golden boot.

The England surge continued, and they earned a free kick right outside the penalty area in the first half stoppage time, but Brewster's swerving shot was tipped over by Spain goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez. At half time, Spain led 2-1.

Crossing over, England upped the ante further, and in the 53rd minute, Foden's low shot was deflected away for a corner by the Spanish goalkeeper, but England did not have to wait for more than five minutes to draw level.

The fabulous Foden essayed a lovely pass to Sessegnon, who sent in a ground pass and Gibbs-White finished.

The Spanish seemed rudderless before the English onslaught, and midway into the session, Hudson-Odoi sprinted down the left, essaying a delicate cross into the middle, and Foden stabbed home. England now led 3-2, and there were wild cries of "Foden, Foden" in the stands with many waving the St Georges Cross.

Six minutes from regulation time, England skipper Joel Latibeaudiere headed down a free kick, and Guehi put the ball in. The celebrations in the English camp became louder.

Soon enough it turned into wild scenes of jubilation as Foden made it 5-2, and the entire English reserve bench including Cooper ran all the way near the corner flag to celebrate with Foden as other teammates joined in the party.

It was a sweet revenge for England who had gone down to Spain 1-4 on penalties in the final of the UEFA U-17 European Championships in May.

England coach Cooper later said he was proud of the performance put up by his charges as they stuck to the game plan even after falling behind..

"I do not know and I am just so proud of the performance...2-0 down...we just played our way and we didn't stop. We stuck to our game plan and our style.

"We are building for future and that is the way to do it," he said.

Spain coach Santiago Denia said England's first goal scored by Brewster "really hurt us".

"We had our composure when we are 2-0 up. But the first goal was a setback. The match was under our control when it was 3-2. But after that we went on all out attack and left spaces in the defence, which England exploited," Denia said.

England won 5-2.

Sporting headbands, bandanas and sports gear in colours reflecting allegiance to their respective teams (red, yellow for Spain; white for England), a full house of die-hard fans threw their weight behind their favourite soccer stars with raucous cheers and thunderous applause.

Despite splotches of Brazilian yellow and green spotted outside the stadium, the arena presented a divided house for Spain's tiki taka versus quick passing English play.

Posters of England's pin-up boy Rhian Brewster and Spaniard Sergio Gomez stood out in the throng.

Supporters of Indian giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan too attended the match donning jerseys of their beloved clubs.

Mukul Mudgal, who headed the IPL 2013 spot-fixing probe, former Indian cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly joined in the gala event while football giants including Wayne Rooney pitched in via social media.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) Former England and Arsenal star defender Sol Campbell said on Saturday that Indian football is 50-100 years behind a "lot of other countries" and need to "catch up" in order to improve.

A member of the FIFA member of technical study group, Campbell was speaking to the media after the FIFA U-17 World Cup third-place clash between Brazil and Mali and ahead of England's final against Spain.

"I think you have to start somewhere. Lot of other countries have got 50-100 years ahead of India," he said when asked if India needed a England-Dna like project which started in 2014.

"You have to say what need to catch up. I think you are on the right path. Having a World Cup here for U17s gives you exposure. Also in Kolkata, there is going to be a training centre. That will help. You need coaches to talk to players.

"You also need players to go abroad and that should be happening. Whatever information you get you will seriously take football. FIFA being here should also help a lot. That kind of conversation will happen. You need time and it's not going to happen overnight.

"One more thing is you have got cricket here. It's a major sport. You have to understand that. The more centres you have the more the conversation with FIFA," he added.

Campbell lauded the quality of the U-17 World Cup, saying it has come a long way since a decade ago.

"The quality is fantastic. Looking at players' physique as well. That's down to coaches around the world and players as standard is better than when it started," he said.

"Even 10-15 years ago, it wasn't that good. In few countries players were physically stronger even if that was a small difference but strength mattered.

"The skill factor, knowledge about the game is on another level. The positioning of players, systems and tactics have improved and that's pleasing to see. Everything has gone up a notch. I think 10 years ago, Mali had skill but working together as a team and game understanding has improved," he said.

Quizzed why England, who remained perfect en route to the summit here, cannot replicate this success at the senior level, Campbell said players need to play regularly at their club teams.

"What has happened has happened. Its all about the future now. These players have done extremely well. In the last two years the U-20s and U-19s have either won in the final or lost the final. That's fantastic for producing players for the future.

"It's all about what happens after this. It's about players graduating to first teams. In the last two years, youth teams have played really well.

"We all focus on fitness and tactical side at St George's park which is great. Now we need to see how they progress and transfer this into individual first teams," Campbell said.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) Reminiscing India's gold medal triumph in football at the 1962 Asian Games, Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said on Saturday that the country should work towards lifting football and other sports back to their previous glory.

"A lot of spectators today might not know that we won gold medal in football in Asian Games and the captain of that team was from Bengal. We were once at the 14th position at the Olympics. So These are important moments for us.

"We need to lift the Indian football back up and develop in a lot of other sports," Rathore said here ahead of the the FIFA U-17 World Cup final, with India's 1962 football team captain Chuni Goswami by his side.

Rathore, who himself claimed a silver medal in the double trap shooting event at 2004 Olympic Games, said he was happy with the infrastructure for the U-17 World Cup here and claimed that India needs more players to come up to avail the facilities.

"The infrastructure here is good. I want the facilities to be regularly used by the players. If the infrastructure remain unused then what is the point of maintaining it? Therefore we need more players to come up," he said.

After Brazil fought Mali in the third-place clash ahead of the mega-final between England and Spain, the total number of spectators who turned up at the six host venues across the country went past the earlier record attendance of 1,230,976 set in the first edition of the tournament in China, 1985.

With 56,432 people watching the game at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, the total attendance of the World Cup reached 1,280,459.

A figure of 6,949 needed to be breached before the start of the tie to break the record.

The 2011 edition in Mexico had seen a turnout of 1,002,314 spectators, becoming the third to boast a total attendance in excess of a million.

The attendance for matches had breached the million mark in the last Round of 16 match on October 18.

The Yuba Bharati Krirangan, revamped at an expenditure of over Rs 100 crores, boasts of the highest attendance per match. The venue has so far logged a total of 54,2125 spectators from 10 games.

The average attendance has been 54,212 per match.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) A candid Brazil coach Carlos Amedeu admitted on Saturday that their third-place clash against Mali was the worst game they played in the two and half years of preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Brazil won 2-0 but the coach said both the goals came from fortuitous circumstances and that the players lacked motivation as the team failed to win the semi-finals against England.

"Today we had our worst game in this World Cup. This was our worst match in all over two and half years of preparation," Amadeu told reporters at the post-match press conference.

"We were lucky due to three incidents. First defender lost the ball and Alan got space. Then the goalkeper made that error. Mali had a great team also, they had shots on goal all over competition," the 52-year old added.

The Brazil players lacked the urge to fight it out on the field as it was a third-place game with only consolation prize to look forward to, the coach said.

"First of all, we have to look at Mali who made a great game. Their style of coaching is really good. We have to watch ourselves. We always want to win and we have this culture that if we lose the semi-final we want to leave. The players lacked motivation," he said.

"Today I told them they could be here for final. But they (fans) want to see Brazil play so I asked them to give their best."

Amedeu's Mali counterpart Jonas Komla rued the wasted opportunities, adding that goalkeeper Youssouf Koita was only human to commit that gaffe that led to Alan's opener.

We had a nice match. Happy with the way we played. We could not score goals despite getting so many chances and Brazil took the opportunities and scored," Komla said.

"He (Koita) is human. Humans make errors. After that also we had our chances to score but this is hard luck," he added.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) Brazil profited from Malis horrible defensive lapses to finish with a 2-0 win and take the third place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup here on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Alan scored in the 55th minute, before substitute Yuri Alberto widened the margin two minutes from the end of regulation time of the third-fourth play-off watched by more than 56,000 spectators at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

This is the second time the Selecao boys have finished third after the inaugural edition in 1985 in China.

Alan broke the deadlock by capitalising on an incredible howler by Mali goalkeeper Youssouf Koita. The midfielder snatched the ball from Mammadou Samake and set off on a solo run, before unleashing a rasping grounder from the top of the box.

Koita was in line to block the shot, but failed to hold on to the ball, which went in between his legs, to the utter disbelief of the Mali reserve bench. Koita himself seemed stunned, and wept inconsolably after the game was over.

Alberto, who replaced Lincoln in the in the 74th minute, then made the scoreline 2-0 by latching on to a pass from Brenner inside the box and then let go a right footer virtually unchallenged. A Mali defender standing close by failed to read the situation and Koita was helpless.

Mali, however, had seemed much more thrustful in the first half, carrying out a number of fast raids into the opponent citadel. In contrast, three-time champions Brazil looked lacklustre and lacking in motivation, despite having more possession.

The likes of Alan and Marcos Antonio tried to cut through the Mali defence, but could not make much headway.

The only clear chance that Brazil got in the first half was in the 19th minute when Lincoln dribbled past a few defenders to chip the ball for the hardworking Paulinho inside the box. Paulinho set up Marcos Antonio who shot wide.

At the other end, Boubacar Haidara took a firm shot, which was punched out of harm's way by Brazil custodian Gabriel Brazao. The Brazil shotstopper had a very good game, saving his team's downfall on a number of occasion. Brazao played consistently well throughout the tournament, and is one of the strong contenders of the golden gloves award.

Mali got some more scoring opportunities, but somehow failed to finish.

Salam Jiddou was once off-target, while on another Brazao tipped over his right footer for a corner. Jiddou, always active, later set up Mohamed Camara, but the latter missed the mark.

The second session saw Brazil taking more initiatives, and close to the hour mark, Paulinho set up Brenenr, who muffed up the chance. The action then shifted to the other end, as Hadji Drame and Mohammad Camara's efforts were saved by Brazao.

Midway into the second half, Brazao looked dehydrated and had to receive treatment on the ground. In the very next minute, Salam Jiddou's right-footer missed the target after Hadji Drame had done the spadework.

A little later, Fode Konate crossed for Lassana N'Diaye, but Brazao saved the situation.

Mali came close to scoring late in the second session, but Mahamane Toure's header off Konate's cross was not on target.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) A day after FIFA President Gianni Infantino waxed eloquent about India's organisation of the U-17 World Cup and even went to say the future is bright for the sport in the country, national team skipper Sunil Chhetri urged all stakeholders to cash in on this recognition.

Chhetri, who is the face of the sport in the country and is the all-time leading goalscorer for the national team, said it is imperative all the more now for the national teams to step up.

"The biggest gain for us is that Indian football has been recognised at the world stage. This is the best opportunity to cash in and make it count," Chhetri, in the city for the World Cup final and third place clash between Spain-England and Brazil-Mali, told IANS in an interview.

India qualified for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 after eight years. Under head coach Stephen Constantine, in July they jumped to their best-ever ranking of 96 since February 1996. Now India is ranked 105.

Chhetri expressed satisfaction that the next set of players to represent the senior team is ready with the U-17 boys giving a good account of themselves in three Group A matches they played.

"Our boys played so well, man. These are the guys who will come into the senior team now and we need to hold them together and continue their development," said Chhetri, who plays for Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC.

The talismanic striker said for sustained development, the authorities should ensure the infrastructure is maintained after the World Cup is over.

"The hospitality was excellent. We have been great hosts. Now we need to make sure the facilities are maintained.

We need to make sure such enthusiasm does not die down with the World Cup getting over. For that, the national teams need to keep doing well but also the infrastructure needs to be taken care of," the 33-year old, also India's most capped international, said.

Overall, Chhetri opined that there are only pros from the youth meet, hosted by India for the first time, with players of the ilk of England's Rhian Brewster and Spain's Abel Ruiz taking part.

"We have seen top class players like Rhian Brewster, Abel Ruiz strut their stuff in front of our eyes. These players will play at the highest level in few years' time. Overall this has been a top tournament and everyone has recognised that. We have lived up to our potential as hosts. Now is the time to build on it," he signed off.

Kolkata, Oct 28 (IANS) Already under-fire with the US failing to qualify for next year's World Cup in Russia after a gap of 32 years, president of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Sunil Gulati has admitted that it is not something that is not expected of them.

The US will be absent from the World Cup finals for the first time since 1986 after a humiliating 1-2 defeat to Trinidad & Tobago.

The reversal put an end to their run of seven straight appearances at football's most important competition.

"You take a day, take a breath thinking about that," Gulati, who was in Allahabad, told IANS in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the FIFA council meeting here.

"We will look at what we did and did not do and what we could have done differently There is no guarantees that anybody makes the World Cup but we have got to a point that it is expected.

"It is good that expectations have risen. But, we will look at all those things now and plan to make sure we are in Qatar," the 58-year old said.

Born in Allahabad, Gulati's family moved to the United States when he was five years old. He has been the president of the USSF since March 11, 2006 but has come under fire from critics and rivals within the federation after the US failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Gulati however, has stoutly defended himself, asserting that he may run for re-election and lead the USSF's joint 2026 World Cup bid with Canada and Mexico.

Quizzed if he could put a finger on any particular reason for the US not making the cut, Gulati said, "Listen, we went into the last game needing a draw against Trinidad and either of the other two games going against our favour.

"So the chances of all the three things happening at once were less than 5 percent. Unfortunately, all three things happened and I am not going to pinpoint one particular reason.We did not play well enough in the last game and we dropped some points early. So in the end, it did not go our way."

In the wake of the debacle and the subsequent resignation of their manager Bruce Arena, Gulati came under severe critisim mostly for questionable hiring of coaches.

Asked about whether he would contest for a fourth term, Gulati remained non-committal.

Gulati said the American youth teams and the senior squad, are not at "that level" but expressed hope of a better future with their creditable performance at the U-17 World Cup.

The Americans reached the quarter-finals before losing to England.

"We are optimistic about our future. There are only two teams that were in the quarterfinals of both the U20 and U17 World Cup.

England and the US England won one and is playing in the final of the other.

"We are hopeful but we are still not quite at the level or have that edge to play in the final. We have quite a few talented players and we have got to integrate them with some of the more experienced players and win games," he said.

Kolkata, Oct 27 (IANS) Spectators for Saturdays FIFA U-17 World Cup final at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan would not be allowed to carry drinking water pouches in the galleries, police said here on Friday.

"We have banned carrying drinking water packets into the stands on Saturday as a minor incident happened in one of the matches earlier. However sufficient water would be available inside the stadium. The spectators can drink water at the respective counters and dispose off the packets there," Deputy Commissioner of police (headquarters), Bidhannagar commissionerate Santosh Pandey told reporters.

The decision has been taken in view of the misbehaviour of some spectators during the October 22 Brazil-Germany quarter final clash at the venue.

Brazil won the game 2-1.

Pandey said enhanced security cover would be provided to the large number of dignitaries and VIPs expected for Saturday's final.

"We have prepared enhanced security cover for them. They will be escorted to and from the stadium," he said.

Police said there would also be separate security arrangements for the post match award ceremony inside the stadium.

England and Spain will lock horns in the summit clash. Earlier in the evening, the stadium will host the third place match between Brazil and Mali.

Claiming that the security arrangements in and around the stadium would be of the "highest standard" the officer said the entire force has been briefed again about their respective duties during the final.

"No additional force is being deployed for the final as we already have sufficient force in and around the stadium. Also there are enough reserve personnel if needed," Pandey said.

The officer said the gates of the stadium might be opened ahead of the scheduled time of 3 p.m. if the majority of the spectators arrive early.

Kolkata, Oct 27 (IANS) Not withstanding his sides all-win record and spectacular display in the ongoing Under-17 FIFA World Cup, England coach Steve Cooper does not consider his team as "favourites" for the final against Spain on Saturday.

Cooper says the boys have left behind the anguish of the UEFA European championships title round defeat earlier this year.

"We will never class ourselves favourites. It doesn't suit our mentality. We are humble, respectful of the opposition. We treat every opposition with the same respect, same focus," Cooper said.

"It's flattering if anybody thinks we are favourites. But we are not going to get carried away. We won't be complacent,

"And definitely not against Spain," he added, referring to the loss to Spain on penalties in the UEFA European tourney final in May.

However, he emphasised that the European championship defeat was now a distant memory and said: "We are only looking forward, not looking back."

Expressing happiness over the performance of his charges so far, he said the emphatic victories against USA in the quarter final and Brazil in the semis had not come off easily.

"The wins were not easy. US, Brazil are two strong teams. It was a big achievement. Brazil was a massive test," the 37-year-old said.

Describing Spain as an amazing team, he said England were aware of their rivals' strength.

"They have been a very good team throughout the competition. We respect them. We know where their strengths lie," the England U-17 coach said.

He said his boys were enjoying their time in India, especially Kolkata.

"There is always pressure around a World Cup. We don't feel the pressure as we are thriving, embracing every moment," Cooper said.

Including Saturday's final, England would play six of their seven games in the tournament at the Vievekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, and Cooper said they were excited to play the final at the same venue.

"Pleased to be back here. It is a magnificent stadium. We have enjoyed every minute of our stay in India, particularly in Kolkata. To think the final is also being played in this stadium is something to be excited about," Cooper said.

Cooper said his team was game if the final was decided on penalties.

"Penalty is a part of modern football. All you can do is to prepare a plan and wait for it to happen. If it so happens tomorrow, we are game," the former defender said.

England has had a fine run in 2017 when they won the Under-20 World Cup as also the Under-19 European Championships.

Cooper said it would be an 'amazing achievement' to add the under-17 World Cup trophy t the Under-20 triumph.

"To think that we would be the holders of two developmental World Cups would be an amazing achievement.

"It's also a great recognition for what is going on with youth academies and the England teams. I take great pride in that and just really hope that we can see this through.

"When we get back on the plane, the players and the staff will be better for the experience and allowing us to continue on that development journey," Cooper said.

"I believe England have improved in every aspect of the game. Defensively they are much better. In the offence, they speak for themselves through their game, they are much better than how they were during the Euro under-17 championship," Denia told the media.

England and Spain are slated to clash for the U-17 World Cup title at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan on Saturday in a rematch of the summit duel between the two rivals in Vara?din, Croatia on May 19, when Spain had drawn level in added time, before winning 4-1 on penalties. None of the teams have won the tournament so far.

Speaking about his boys, Denia said they were highly motivated for the big fight. "It is a big, big chance for us. We have worked for two years, aiming for this moment. We hope to play our best game and take the trophy home," he said.

"We have not won the tournament earlier. So we are really looking at winning it for the first time. as the team coach, along with the coaching staff, we are working to find the answers about the best way to play the game and beat England."

Asked whether he had devised any plans to stop lethal English striker Rhian Brewster, who has fired back to back hat-tricks in the quarter final and semi final, the Spanish coach said his boys would be up against the England tem as a whole rather than against any individual player.

"He is a good player. But my job as a coach is to defend against the English team rather than against any individual player," Denia said.

He refused to attach much importance to the absence of the talismanic Jadon Sancho from the England line up, saying" "He is a great player, with a great future ahead. But it is not about individual players, but about how good you are as a team."

Sancho had to leave the England squad after the group stages to fulfill his commitments with German club Borussia Dortmund.

The coach said his boys were under no pressure before the big match day. "There is no pressure on us. We are highly motivated to take up the challenge and win a tournament which no other Spanish teams have won before," he said.

Three-time champions Brazil will take on last-year's runners up Mali in a third place playoff clash on Saturday ahead of the all-important final between England and Spain.

The Selecao boys, who were tipped as one of the favourites to win the tournament owing to some of the individual brilliance of their players, failed to get past England in the semi-final. Amadeu's charges lost 3-1.

"We cannot forget that we are playing for the development of these players. We played 7 games. Yes we wanted to play the final but it is better than playing just 5. We have to represent our county and that is what we are going to do tomorrow," Amadeu told reporters on the eve of their third place tie at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here.

"The level of this competition was high. Many teams could have won. Mali, Ghana from Africa... France, Germany, Spain and England from Europe and Brazil an Paraguay from South America.

"Mexico could have done better. The level did not look like it was an U-17 tournament and it was really high quality of football. These seven matches gave us a lot of experience," Amadeu added.

Asked whether he feels European international teams are focusing more on youth level competitions now than before and in recent years have outsmarted their South American counterparts, Amadeu said: "The world is globalised..football is the same. Europe has organisation and competition for players. South America have the talent but better organisation is needed. Europe has the youth leagues. We need more of the same youth leagues for the players to grow."

Brazil players like Alan and Paulinho were seeing distraught on the pitch after their loss to England in the last-four stage.

Asked if that would affect the mood in the camp ahead of the third-place game, Amadeu said: "It's natural to be sad after losing the match like this. What happens after this depends on the players' reaction.

"I had a meeting with the support staff immediately after we reached the team hotel. I said to them we have to hold our heads high. We have to come back. Put our chin up as an example to the players. Next day we started working as normal so the players look at us and that is how we are preparing."
