Berlin, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, and Dirk Wiese, Member of the Bundestag and Vice Chairman of the India-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group, discussed ways to strengthen the multifaceted Strategic Partnership.

"Ambassador Ajit Gupte met Mr Dirk Wiese, Member of the Bundestag and Vice Chairman of the India-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group on 10 July 2026. They discussed strengthening the multifaceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership, facilitating Parliamentary exchanges and enhancing cooperation between Indian States and German Landers," the Embassy of India in Berlin wrote on X.

The Ambassador also met Bundestag Member and Transatlantic Coordinator Metin Hakverdi and discussed deepening the India-Germany Strategic Partnership using opportunities from the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

"Ambassador Ajit Gupte met Bundestag Member and Transatlantic Coordinator Metin Hakverdi on 9 July 2026. Discussions focused on deepening the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, utilising opportunities from the India-EU FTA, growing defence & security cooperation and global and regional issues," the Embassy noted on X.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Evian, France, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral engagements and expressed satisfaction at the renewed momentum in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership following Merz's visit to India and the conclusion of the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations earlier this year.

As India and Germany celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026, PM Modi and Chancellor Merz reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across various sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, green and sustainable development, technology, innovation, education and mobility. That was the second meeting between the two leaders this year, and they welcomed the signing of the Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap and the operationalisation of the transit visa waiver for Indian nationals transiting through Germany.

Chancellor Merz invited the Prime Minister for the 8th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) scheduled to be held later this year in Germany.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday announced that India has handed over family tents for Afghan returnees as part of its continued humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

"As part of India's continued humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, India has handed over family tents to the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) to support the shelter and rehabilitation needs of Afghan returnees," the MEA wrote on X.

Afghanistan has been witnessing a large number of returnees, especially from Pakistan, as Islamabad has ramped up measures to repatriate refugees and undocumented migrants.

According to reports, an enforcement drive has begun following the expiry of the July 10 deadline for Afghans without valid visas to leave voluntarily.

The Taliban's Secretariat of the High Commission for Addressing Returnees' Issues said that more than 4,000 Afghans were deported from Pakistan within 24 hours over the weekend, Amu TV reported.

Figures obtained from the Hamza Baba transit point in Landi Kotal showed a significant increase in the number of Afghan refugees returning in recent days. According to officials at the transit point, the number of returnees has exceeded 10,000 daily since Pakistan ordered all Afghan nationals in the country to return to Afghanistan, Pakistan's daily Dawn reported.

The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Pakistan, Qaiser Khan Afridi, while speaking to Dawn, expressed concern over the Pakistan government's decision to "forcibly" send back Afghan refugees and asylum seekers.

"UNHCR remains particularly concerned about women and girls forced to return to a country where their human rights are at risk, as well as other groups who might be at risk," he said.

He also urged the authorities to ensure that the return of Afghans to Afghanistan is voluntary, safe and dignified.

"UNHCR has appealed to the government of Pakistan to exempt Afghans with continued international protection needs from voluntary return, especially those facing refoulement risks, including profiles such as female heads of households, women and girls enrolled in educational institutions in Pakistan, individuals from ethnic and religious minorities, human rights defenders, journalists, performing artists and members of the transgender community," the report in Dawn said.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Asserting that India has become a country that is much sought after in the international high table, Former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Monday said that New Delhi's unique perspective and point of view is now sought after by the world.

"We are today a country that is much sought after in the international high table. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is invited to G7 and BRICS meetings. We are able to bridge the gap between the North and South and East and West. We have good relations with countries in the West and are also the voice of the Global South in many ways. So given that perspective, it is important for India to be a regular feature in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)," the former diplomat told IANS while speaking about India's bid for an Asia-Pacific non-permanent seat at the UNSC for a two-year term starting in 2028.

He noted that the UNSC is the only organ in the United Nations whose decisions are binding on member states.

"India's presence is very important, and I think it is reflective of our global standing. It is important for us and for our point of view to be articulated through the Council. It also reinforces our claim to be a permanent member of the Security Council, and our membership of the Council also provides us with the opportunity to push the case for a reformed Security Council," Shringla highlighted.

He highlighted India’s relevance being a major factor as the country continues to consistently push for peace, de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy.

Shringla lauded Prime Minister Modi for always being at the forefront of global diplomacy whether it is about the conflict in Ukraine conflict, Middle East or West Asia. It is important, he said, for India to be able to articulate this through the internationally accepted mechanism focused on maintaining international peace and security.

"Our point of view is sought after by the world because they believe that India brings a unique perspective, that our perspective is the one that can actually succeed in de-escalating situations, in providing a message of peace and amity and it is a different perspective from one that the West brings or China brings or Russia brings, it is our own message based on centuries if not millennia of civilization," he emphasised.

He said that India already has a fair amount of support and it is now a question of garnering the fullest possible backing so that India has the mandate to represent the widest majority of countries in the UN Security Council, something “most countries haven't had the ability to do.”

"In 2011, when we were elected by an unprecedented margin. Similarly in 2019 before we started our term in 2020, we had again a very strong margin of support in the elections. I have no doubt that the support that India receives globally and internationally is because of the contributions we have made to global peace and security, and will find its resonance in the elections that will happen," he said.

United Nations, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) India is pursuing parallel roads to the UN Security Council (UNSC), launching on Monday a campaign for election to it, while continuing its bid for a permanent seat.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar is to formally announce India’s candidature for the Asia Pacific non-permanent seat in next year’s elections for the two-year term starting in 2028.

India, which has served eight terms as an elected member, will continue its fight against terrorism, a hallmark of its last term in 2021-2022, in the Council as well as being a voice of the Global South, if elected.

So far, only Tajikistan has announced its candidature for the Asia Pacific seat to be vacated by Bahrain when it completes its term at the end of next year.

Dushanbe has been lobbying for the seat for several years and was endorsed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as far back as 2023.

The OIC, which has 56 votes in the General Assembly, said in its resolution that its backing was based on “the principle of Islamic solidarity as being inherent to the joint Islamic action”.

India will need two-thirds of the votes in the193-member Assembly.

In its last election, India, which was unanimously backed by the Asia Pacific group and ran unopposed, received 184 votes, and eight were cast as spoiler votes.

The 53-member Asia Pacific Group covers a wide swath of the world from Lebanon on the West to Kiribati on the East.

The non-permanent seats are distributed by region.

When possible, the regional groups select who is to represent them. Sometimes, there is no unanimity, and at other times, a country may decide to run on its own.

The highlight of India’s last term was convening a meeting of the Council in India during its rotating presidency in October 2022.

During its session in Mumbai, the Council members honoured the victims of the 2008 terrorist attack by Pakistan-based terrorists, and they got a first-hand view of the ravages of terrorism.

There and in New Delhi, the Council focused on countering the use of emerging technologies by terrorists.

The bid by India for the 2028-29 term is an attempt to shorten the long gaps of as much as over a decade between some of its previous terms so that it can have a consistent voice at the UN’s highest decision-making body.

India’s first term was in1950-51, and its next came in 1967.

That was followed by two-year terms starting in 1972, 1977, 1984, and 1991.

There was then a 19-year gap till 2011, and the next tenure came a decade later in 2021.

Kyrgyzstan was elected in June to the Asia Pacific seat and will succeed Pakistan, which completes its term at the end of this year.

OIC has endorsed Libya for the 2027 election for the Africa seat.

Some countries prepare decades in advance for Council elections. Malaysia, which is aiming for the 2035 election, began lobbying for the UNSC seat at the beginning of this decade and received the OIC backing in 2023.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent visit to India for the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit reflects the continuation of the longstanding relationship. Japan, a report highlighted, remains the second country after Russia with whom India holds annual bilateral summits.

India and Japan established this format in 2006 when the ties were elevated to a 'Strategic and Global Partnership'. India also holds an annual 2+2 ministerial dialogue with Japan, showcasing how close the two nations are to each other. The ties between India and Japan are bipartisan and both nations enjoy strong state-to-state connection and hold goodwill among their peoples. Japan is the most important partner in India’s story of economic laterisation in the past 35 years, a report in Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) detailed.

Takaichi was on a three-day visit to India from July 1-3, her first to India after assuming office. During the 16th Annual India-Japan Summit at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on July 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Takaichi discussed the full spectrum of bilateral ties, including trade and investment, economic security, energy, emerging technologies, defence and people-to-people exchanges. Both leaders also spoke about regional and global developments of mutual interest.

During the summit, Japan committed to invest USD 62 billion in India over the next 10 years. The two nations also signed agreements in important sectors such as energy resilience, economic security, and artificial intelligence. Both nations also signed a first defence co-development pact, which would be useful for ensuring the security of maritime routes and maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific, according to the report. India wants Japan to develop Mogami-class stealth frigates, naval radio antenna systems (UNICORN masts), and next-generation warship propulsion systems in India.

PM Modi and Takaichi also attended the India–Japan Joint Economic Forum and virtually inaugurated a new Maruti manufacturing facility in Haryana. Spread across 800 acres, the integrated manufacturing complex has been developed with an adjoining supplier park and is designed to become one of the world's largest vehicle manufacturing facilities when fully operational.

Japan wants to secure its technology pipelines in the semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and robotics sectors. Tokyo also intends to have stable, alternative suppliers for critical minerals and battery production as China has imposed export restrictions in these domains, the IPCS stated.

Colombo, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health’s secretary, Anil Jasinghe, on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an Indian grant to supply state-of-the-art medical equipment to Base Hospital, Deniyaya.

"Partnering for climate-resilient healthcare in India and Sri Lanka. Glad to sign an MoU with the Secretary, Ministry of Health Dr Anil Jasinghe today for a SLR 600M Indian grant to supply state-of-the-art medical equipment to Base Hospital, Deniyaya, in presence of Hon. Minister Nalinda Jayatissa," the High Commissioner wrote on X.

According to the High Commissioner, this grant will equip critical units, including Emergency, Operating Theatres, HDU, and the Special Care Baby Unit, supporting the hospital’s relocation to a secure, disaster-resilient zone.

"Part of India's USD 450M rehabilitation package for Sri Lanka's post-Cyclone Ditwah recovery, this initiative underscores India's enduring commitment to a safe and resilient neighbourhood," he highlighted.

Last month, the High Commissioner handed over military equipment to the Sri Lankan Army for their United Nations deployment under a grant of 5.5 million USD.

"Strengthening India-Sri Lanka defence bonds and enhancing operational readiness. Happy to hand over military stores from the Indian Army to the Sri Lankan Army for their UN deployment under a grant of 5.5 million USD. On Sri Lanka's request, India immediately mobilised these equipment for Sri Lanka's UN deployment- a testament to the confidence and trust in our defence relations," the High Commissioner said.

In April as well, India handed over two Personal Watercrafts (PWCs) and safety gear to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, assisting in enhancing the Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s capability in near-shore Search and Rescue (SAR).

As part of its continuous humanitarian outreach, India, on April 24, presented two BHISM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri) cubes to the Sri Lankan authorities under India’s ‘Aarogya Maitri’ initiative.

Hanoi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who died in a tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam have left Ho Chi Minh City for Mumbai by a Vietnam Airlines flight and will arrive late Monday evening, the Embassy of India in Hanoi stated.

The state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will coordinate transportation of mortal remains to their final destinations in the respective states.

The Embassy of India in Vietnam also conveyed its gratitude to the Vietnamese authorities for the assistance provided.

"Embassy of India, Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City wish to convey sincere gratitude to authorities of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, An Giang Province as well as Department of Foreign Affairs, Ho Chi Minh City, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all other agencies for all the assistance provided following the tragic boat accident," the Embassy wrote on X.

"We are grateful for the many messages of condolences and prayers from our Vietnamese friends. Your prayers, efforts and presence gave us strength in this extreme hour of grief," it added.

Meanwhile, the Indian national undergoing treatment at Phu Quoc after the tragic boat accident successfully underwent a medical procedure on Sunday evening. According to the Indian Embassy, he was admitted in a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday and his family members have also arrived in country.

The Vietnamese police in southern An Giang province on Sunday detained and initiated criminal proceedings against a local man over alleged legal violations linked to the tourist boat that capsized.

The detainee was identified as 57-year-old captain Nguyen Hong Hai, a resident of Thuan Tien hamlet in Son Kien commune, An Giang province, who was temporarily residing in the Phu Quoc special zone.

According to preliminary reports, the boat was carrying around 32 Indian tourists, including 17 from Tamil Nadu, while the remaining passengers were from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala.

The vessel reportedly overturned while cruising in waters south of Phu Quoc, a popular tourist destination in southern Vietnam.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams, local residents, and emergency personnel rushed to the scene and launched a large-scale rescue operation.

Kuwait City, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Condemning the ongoing attacks on its Consulate General in Iraq’s Basra, Kuwait on Monday questioned the efforts being made by the country's government to fulfill its international obligations as stipulated under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963).

Terming the attacks as an “unacceptable violation" of the inviolability of the consulate, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the Iraqi government to take immediate and decisive measures to hold accountable all those involved in these hostile acts.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the State of Kuwait's strongest condemnation and denunciation of the ongoing attacks targeting the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait in the city of Basra, in an unacceptable violation of the inviolability of the consulate and an undermining of the Iraqi government's efforts to fulfill its international obligations as stipulated under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963), particularly Article (31), which obliges the host state to take all appropriate measures to ensure the complete protection of the premises of consular posts and to preserve their inviolability,” Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X.

“Despite the efforts exerted by the Iraqi government to attempt to counter these attacks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms, in the same context, the necessity for the Iraqi government to take immediate and decisive measures to hold accountable all those involved in these hostile acts, to ensure they are not repeated, and to adopt measures that guarantee the inviolability of the diplomatic and consular missions of the State of Kuwait accredited to the Republic of Iraq, as well as the security and safety of those working therein,” it added.

In April, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Aziz Al-Daihani met Iraq’s Charge d'Affaires in Kuwait, Zaid Shanshul, to deliver an official note of protest over the attack on the consulate building in Basra, terming the incident a “flagrant violation” of international norms and agreements, especially the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, Kuwait Times reported.

He stressed the need for Iraqi authorities to take “urgent and decisive measures” to hold all perpetrators accountable, stop any recurrence and ensure increased protection for all Kuwaiti diplomatic missions in Iraq. He stated that Kuwait “will not hesitate” to take all necessary measures to protect its interests and missions as per the international law.

Kuwait lodged a formal protest as reports claimed that protesters had stormed the Kuwait's Consulate in Basra after rockets hit a house in Khor Al-Zubair area, killing at least three people and injuring five others. Security forces had fired tear gas to disperse the protesters, according to the report in Kuwait Times. Iraq’s foreign ministry had condemned the attack and announced the establishment of an investigative committee to find the circumstances of the incident and take legal action against the perpetrators.

Islamabad, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan has intensified its campaign against Afghan migrants by arresting and deporting them following the expiration of government's deadline for undocumented foreigners to leave the country, local media reported.

An enforcement drive has begun after the expiration of the July 10 deadline for Afghans without valid visas to leave voluntarily.

"Afghan migrants in Pakistan said authorities are now detaining not only undocumented migrants but also Afghans whose visas or Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC) have expired. Pakistani authorities say the campaign is underway in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," Amu TV reported.

According to the Pakistani government, people holding Afghan Citizen Cards and other temporary documents also face deportation.

Taliban's Secretariat of the High Commission for Addressing Returnees’ Issues said that more than 4,000 Afghans were deported from Pakistan in 24 hours over the weekend.

An Afghan migrant living in Pakistan confirmed that many families have been unable to renew their visas.

"Visas have effectively been unavailable for about a year," he said. "If we are arrested and deported, we all know what the situation is like in Afghanistan. We fear retaliation by the Taliban," the report quoted Ahmad as saying.

According to an Afghan journalist living in Pakistan, widespread anxiety among Afghan families has been created due to the Pakistani government’s latest directive. The figures from Pakistani media say that nearly 2.59 million Afghan migrants and refugees have been deported since the launch of Pakistan's repatriation campaign in late 2023.

Another Afghan journalist in Pakistan, stressed that many of those who fled after the Taliban returned to power in 2021 remain at risk.

"Those who sought refuge in Pakistan after 2021 are refugees, not ordinary migrants," she said. "Returning them to Afghanistan could cost them their lives," highlighted the report by Amu TV.

Pakistan has been warned by the United Nations and international human rights organisations to halt the forced deportations, warning that many returning Afghans could face persecution, arbitrary detention, torture or reprisals upon their return.

Naypyidaw, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur, on Monday handed over solar systems for 50 households of earthquake-affected ethnic people in Taunggyi.

"50 household solar systems for earthquake-affected ethnic people of Inlay, a Quick Impact Project (QIP) under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Initiative, were handed over in Taunggyi today by Ambassador Abhay Thakur in the presence of Ethnic Affairs Minister U Than Maung and CM Shan State U Sai Htein Soe," the Embassy of India in Myanmar wrote on X.

In addition to the Union Ethnic Affairs Minister and Deputy Minister, several Ethnic Ministers of Shan State responsible for Inthar, Lisu and Kayan affairs joined the Mission team at the MGC QIP handover and site visit to beneficiary houses in earthquake-affected floating villages of Inle lake.

Development cooperation has long been a prominent feature in India’s overall bilateral engagement with Myanmar. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India's involvement and assistance extends from setting up of major connectivity infrastructure to significant initiatives in establishing long-term sustainable and relevant institutions for capacity building and human resource development in some of the critical areas such as agricultural research, rural infrastructure, healthcare and education, IT and skill development.

Under the Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) mechanism, Quick Impact Projects (QIP) were launched by Indian government to deliver short-gestation, high-visibility development outcomes across various countries including Myanmar.

"QIPs strive to deliver small, timely interventions that respond to local needs and produce visible benefits faster. Under the Framework Agreement of QIP, the Government of India has committed up to US$ 500,000 per year for such projects. As of March this year, over 25 QIPs have been sanctioned in states and regions all across Myanmar. These are in sectors such as renewable energy, civic infrastructure, agriculture, rural development, education, handloom, disaster risk reduction and cultural restoration," the MEA stated.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday met Spanish Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo in Madrid and explored ways to deepen business ties between the two countries.

Kicking off official engagements in Spain during his three-nation visit, Goyal said: "We had productive discussions on strengthening the India-Spain economic partnership through greater trade, investment and technology collaboration, with a focus on renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, infrastructure and innovation."

"We also exchanged views on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and explored ways to deepen business ties and expand India's commercial engagement with Spain as a valued partner," he said in a post on X.

As India and the European Union work towards the early implementation of the India-EU FTA, Commerce Minister Goyal embarked on a three-nation visit on Monday with a high-level business delegation.

The visit to Spain, Belgium, and Finland from July 13-17 underscores India's commitment to strengthening economic partnerships across Europe, with a focus on trade, investment, technology, innovation and sustainability, according to an official statement.

In Spain, Goyal was set to hold bilateral meetings with Cuerpo, Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu Boher, and Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno.

Goyal will also chair an India-Spain Business Roundtable with leading Spanish companies and industry associations to showcase India's investment opportunities and encourage greater business-to-business partnerships.

In February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Spanish President Pedro Sanchez in New Delhi, and discussed ways to expand cooperation across trade, economy, health, digital technology, innovation and several other key sectors.

Key areas discussed include trade and economy, digital, innovation, health, climate action, and education, among others. PM Modi conveyed his appreciation for Spain's consistent support for strong India-EU relations.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Seychelles was not only aimed at strengthening ties but to also reiterate India's commitment to serving as a net service provider in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), a report has claimed.

"Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, lies near vital sea lanes of communication connecting East Africa, West Asia and the wider Indian Ocean region. The security of these sea lanes is therefore crucial to India, making maritime cooperation with Seychelles indispensable," a report in India Narrative highlighted.

During his visit to Seychelles last month, PM Modi held a meeting with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, discussing new opportunities in industries, connectivity, technology, and digital infrastructure

"President Herminie and I took stock of the economic partnership between India and Seychelles. We discussed new opportunities in industries, connectivity, technology, digital infrastructure and more. India will keep working with Seychelles in sectors such as housing, healthcare, transport, skilling, food security, education and defence," PM Modi wrote on X.

PM Modi also noted that he and Seychelles’ President agreed that the security, sustainability, and prosperity of the Indian Ocean are shared responsibilities.

"Dr. Patrick Herminie and I agree that the Indian Ocean is our shared home and therefore, its security, sustainability and prosperity are our shared responsibility. India envisions an Indian Ocean where maritime security advances alongside economic prosperity. Our partnership is based not on size, but on mutual respect and trust. We do not merely live close to one another, but move forward together. Our vision is to make the Indian Ocean an Ocean of Opportunity," PM Modi wrote on X.

During the visit, the two nations enhanced their defence and maritime partnership by strengthening cooperation in maritime security, surveillance and capacity-building. PM Modi handed over 'Made in India' Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR, six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to strengthen Seychelles' maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) priorities.

"Strategically, the island countries of the Indian Ocean are becoming increasingly important to India as New Delhi reinforces its commitment to being a net security provider in the region. The international security architecture is currently experiencing considerable disorder, with established norms being undermined by regional conflicts and deeper uncertainty marked by periodic episodes of coercion and retaliation," the India Narrative report mentioned.

India acknowledges the need to create a comprehensive maritime-security strategy which has the ability to respond to emerging contingencies. India cannot manage the region's maritime-security challenges alone and it cannot afford to create unease among its maritime neighbours through an overtly aggressive naval strategy. India has the option to invest in defence diplomacy and promote cooperative security mechanisms with Indian Ocean littoral states by bolstering their defence capabilities, the report detailed.

India has supported Seychelles Coast Guard in enhancing its operational capabilities by gifting and providing maritime assets. India gifted patrol boats PS Topaz to Seychelles in 2005 and PS Constant in 2014. India gifted the Fast Interceptor Boat C-405 to Seychelles in 2016 while in 2018, India gifted a second Dornier 228 aircraft to Seychelles in 2018 to enhance its maritime-reconnaissance capabilities. In 2021, India handed over the Fast Patrol Vessel SCG PS Zoroaster to the Seychelles Coast Guard, further strengthening the country’s maritime fleet.

"Since India is not yet the sole security provider in the Indian Ocean Region, it has developed a cooperative-defence strategy with littoral states through defence assistance. This reinforces India’s commitment to serving as a net security provider by helping these countries improve their security preparedness,” the report added.

Boston, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Naval Sail Training Ship (STS) INS Sudarshini arrived in Boston to join dozens of tall ships from over 20 nations for the 'Parade of Sails' at Sail Boston 2026, the Indian Navy stated on Monday.

"Lokayan26, Tricolour at Boston! Post spectacular Sail4th250 celebrations in New York, INS Sudarshini reached Boston on 12 Jul 26 to join 60-plus tall ships from 20-plus nations for the Grand Parade of Sails at Sail Boston 2026," the spokesperson of the Indian Navy wrote on X.

"Shri Raghuram Sastry, Consul General of India in Boston, embarked the ship for the Grand Parade of Sails and ceremonial entry into Boston. From Norfolk to Boston - Lokayan2026 continues to carry India's maritime heritage and goodwill across the oceans," it added.

INS Sudarshini represented India at the International Naval Review 250 and SAIL250 celebrations in New York on July 4, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the USA's independence. Carrying forward the Indian Navy's message of maritime friendship, cooperation and goodwill across the oceans, the ship sailed to Boston to participate in Sail Boston 2026.

According to the Ministry of Defence, INS Sudarshini concluded her port call at New York, USA, on July 8, marking another significant milestone in the ongoing Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition.

"The visit showcased India's rich maritime heritage while further strengthening the strategic and cultural partnership between India and the United States," the ministry stated.

As part of the Indian Navy's 10-month transoceanic deployment, the indigenously built three-masted barque represented India at the International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations, organised to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.

A major highlight of the visit was INS Sudarshini's participation in the spectacular Parade of Sail, during which the ship sailed past the Statue of Liberty and along the Hudson River, proudly flying the Indian National Flag alongside an impressive fleet of international tall ships and naval vessels.

According to the Ministry, during its stay in Brooklyn, INS Sudarshini served as a floating Ambassador of India, welcoming over 1,000 visitors on board, including members of the Indian diaspora, local residents, and maritime enthusiasts. Visitors were provided with an insight into the Indian Navy's sail training traditions and India's rich maritime heritage.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday refuted a Reuters report, which claimed that India allegedly rejected a quick trade agreement with the US in recent trade negotiations, as "completely false" and "baseless".

In a post on X, Goyal said: "This news is completely false, baseless and misleading".

"I had fantastic meetings with USTR Jamieson Greer, when he visited Delhi in June. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to an agreement that is balanced, commercially meaningful, and delivers tangible benefits for businesses, farmers, workers, and consumers in both countries," the Commerce Minister said.

Goyal further stated: "Our teams remain fully engaged in achieving this objective".

The Reuters report had claimed that India "is holding out for a better deal".

Earlier in the day, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said that negotiations for a mutually beneficial trade deal between India and the US are on, and talks are progressing in the right direction.

Addressing a press conference here, the Commerce Secretary said: "We don't see any challenge in negotiations, and consultations are progressing in the right direction."

"Both sides remain positive. The India-US framework trade deal is ready for signing at an appropriate time. Trade ties between the two nations continue to strengthen, including energy imports from the US," he added.

Goyal said earlier this month that the India-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA) talks have entered the final stage, with most key issues having been sorted out and both sides working towards a deal that gives New Delhi an advantage over its competitors.

The minister said he does not foresee any major hurdles in concluding the US trade agreement despite recent legal and policy developments in Washington. "We don't see any difficulties with the US," Goyal said, adding that "concessions and other elements have largely been finalised".

Late last month, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said that the proposed India-US trade agreement is in its "last one or two per cent" and negotiators are working to resolve the remaining issues, expressing confidence that the deal would soon be concluded after nearly 18 months of negotiations.

In his address at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit, Gor said officials from both countries had intensified engagement in recent weeks to bring the agreement across the finish line.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The national flag atop the Rashtrapati Bhavan and other buildings in Delhi flew at half-mast as India observed one day of national mourning on Monday as a mark of respect for Qatar's former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, following his death.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared pictures of buildings on X that showed the national flag flying at half-mast.

India has declared one day of national mourning following the demise of Sheikh Hamad, who passed away at the age of 74 years, on Sunday.

"The Government of India has declared one-day national mourning tomorrow, 13 July 2026, as a mark of respect for His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Father Amir of the State of Qatar, who passed away today. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on the day of mourning throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is flown regularly, and there will be no official entertainment on the day," the MEA said on Sunday.

Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is expected to visit Qatar shortly to convey condolences on behalf of the Indian government, according to the MEA statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the death of Sheikh Hamad, describing him as a "visionary leader" and a "true friend".

He offered his condolences to Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the entire royal family and people of Qatar.

"We deeply mourn the passing of Father Amir of State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. A visionary leader who led Qatar to great levels of development and prosperity, we remember him also as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024. I convey my sincere condolences to the Amir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the entire royal family and people of Qatar. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace," PM Modi posted on X.

Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, when he handed over the reins of leadership to his son Sheikh Tamim. During his reign, Qatar witnessed massive economic, social and cultural development, and the country extended its status among the Arab and international community, according to Amiri Diwan's statement.

New Delhi, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal on Monday said that negotiations for a mutually beneficial trade deal between India and the US are on, and talks are progressing in the right direction.

Earlier this month, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the India-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA) talks have entered the final stage, with most key issues having been sorted out and both sides working towards a deal that gives New Delhi an advantage over its competitors.

The minister said he does not foresee any major hurdles in concluding the US trade agreement despite recent legal and policy developments in Washington. "We don't see any difficulties with the US," Goyal said, adding that "concessions and other elements have largely been finalised".

He said India has consistently sought preferential market access over competing nations, a position that has been understood by the US administration.

Despite higher tariffs, India's exports to the US have remained resilient. Goyal said bilateral trade has continued to grow and projected that India's merchandise exports in the April-June quarter will rise about 15 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the US recorded a $4.1 billion goods trade deficit with India in May, according to official data, as America's overall trade deficit widened sharply amid falling exports and rising imports.

Among major trading partners, India was one of the countries with which the United States recorded a goods trade deficit.

The figures also highlighted India's place in the broader Asian supply chain, with the US trade gap with India remaining significantly smaller than those with several other major manufacturing hubs in the region.

Jakarta, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Indonesia, presented rare tea, Indian handicrafts and decoratives to President Prabowo Subianto, representing the artistic elegance of India.

PM Modi presented Manohari Gold Tea, one of India's finest speciality teas, to President Prabowo.

The tea showcases the rich tea heritage and craftsmanship of Assam. Made exclusively from the tender buds of the P126 tea clone, it is hand-plucked, hand-rolled, and naturally sun-dried during the second flush season in June, giving it its distinctive golden appearance, delicate flavour, and exceptional quality. Produced in extremely limited quantities of about 25 grams a day, it is among the world's rarest artisanal teas.

An Uttarakhand Aipan art of Shiva was also presented to President Prabowo. Aipan is a traditional folk art from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, created mainly by women during festivals on floors and walls using a terracotta-red base (Geru) and intricate white patterns made from rice paste (Biswar). Drawn freehand with remarkable precision, the art reflects centuries-old traditions passed down through generations.

This artwork is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features sacred geometric motifs symbolising cosmic energy, highlighting the deep bond between art and spirituality in India. It also celebrates the shared cultural heritage of India and Indonesia, making it a meaningful symbol of the close friendship and enduring cultural ties between the two countries.

PM Modi also gave a traditional Kashmiri Papier-Mache bowl to President Prabowo, which featured hand-painted floral and bird motifs.

The Traditional Kashmiri Papier-Mache Bowl is a fine example of Kashmir's renowned handicraft tradition. Handmade from processed paper pulp and decorated using the traditional Naqashi technique, it features intricate hand-painted floral motifs, birds, ornamental patterns, and fine gold detailing, finished with a glossy lacquer that enhances both its beauty and durability.

A Traditional Repousse silver decorative plate showcasing India's rich silversmithing tradition was also presented to Prabowo by PM Modi.

The silver plate was crafted entirely by hand using the intricate repousse and chasing techniques. Featuring a central lotus medallion surrounded by elephants, stylised trees, and ornate floral borders, the plate reflects exceptional craftsmanship and centuries-old artistic heritage.

The lotus symbolises purity and spiritual enlightenment, while the elephant represents wisdom, strength, prosperity, and royal authority. As a shared symbol of India's and Indonesia's natural heritage, the elephant also highlights the two countries' common commitment to wildlife conservation, making this handcrafted silver plate a meaningful tribute to their enduring friendship and shared values.

PM Modi presented Odisha Ikat to Indonesia's Parliament Speaker, Puan Maharani.

Odisha Ikat, locally known as Bandha, is a prestigious handloom silk tradition celebrated for its intricate tie-and-dye technique and vibrant designs. Created by carefully tying and dyeing threads before weaving, the fabric features rich textures, identical patterns on both sides, and distinctive curvilinear motifs with soft, feathery edges.

Washington, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian American Congressman Ro Khanna has accused armed Israeli settlers and Israeli soldiers of detaining him and other American citizens in the West Bank and called for an investigation into the episode.

Khanna, a California Democrat, told NBC News that settlers carrying M4 rifles stopped his delegation during a three-day visit to the occupied territory.

He said the group feared for its safety.

"They had violent settlers detain American citizens, including an American government official," Khanna said.

"You had these settlers brandishing M4s, kicking the tyres of our van, laughing at us, mocking at us, videotaping us."

Khanna said the settlers held the delegation for about 20 minutes before four Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers arrived. Instead of immediately clearing the road, he alleged, the soldiers continued to block the group.

"We were detained for about 20 minutes, fearful of our lives," Khanna added.

"Then the IDF comes- four soldiers -- they tell our translator that they're on the side of the settlers. They further detain us and block us in."

The delegation then contacted the US Embassy.

Khanna said an official identified as David Brownstein intervened and reached Israeli authorities.

He said the group was allowed to proceed about 75 minutes after the episode began.

The IDF disputed Khanna's account of its role. In a statement quoted during the NBC News interview, it said troops were sent to the spot and cleared the obstruction.

"IDF troops were dispatched to the scene quickly, dispersed the Israeli civilians, and reopened the blocked road. The IDF soldiers operating in the area did not take part in blocking the road," the statement said.

Khanna rejected that account.

"The IDF is lying," he said.

"What happened was unprecedented."

The Congressman called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to order an investigation into the settlers and the four soldiers.

He said that security camera footage could establish what happened.

"The Prime Minister needs to open an investigation on these violent settlers," Khanna said.

"They need to be prosecuted."

Khanna linked those involved to Yanon Levy, whom he accused of destroying a Palestinian village and killing Palestinians. The interview material did not include a response from Levy to those allegations.

"Their outpost needs to be investigated and he needs to have an investigation on these four IDF officers," Khanna said.

"Security cameras can see that they were involved in the detention of American citizens. How dare they mistreat people with an American passport that way?"

Khanna has represented a Silicon Valley-area district in the US House of Representatives since 2017. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee and has frequently called for a US foreign policy that places greater emphasis on diplomacy and human rights.

Canberra, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Australia, presented a Dhokra boat sculpture, Premium Indian coffee and a vinyl record of the music band 'Colonial Cousins' to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese.

The tribal Dhokra boat sculpture is crafted through the ancient lost-wax casting technique. This Dhokra sculpture depicts a traditional boat carrying tribal men and women, symbolising unity, cooperation, and collective progress.

The Indian Premium Coffee Box showcases the rich diversity and quality of coffee cultivated across India's major coffee-growing regions. Featuring carefully selected varieties with distinct flavour profiles shaped by geography, altitude, and processing methods, it highlights India's expertise in producing premium coffees through washed, natural, and honey processes.

The vinyl record PM Modi presented to Albanese is a vinyl edition of the Colonial Cousins album, representing a landmark moment in contemporary Indian music.
Jerusalem, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu's recent remarks about developing alliances with India amid strained relations with the US reveal a structural shift and defence opportunities, a report said on Sunday.

Recently, Netanyahu said, "You have to build new alliances and develop new relationships. That's what I'm doing right now with India", during an interview.

According to a report from the Jerusalem Times, the remarks came amid a strain in the relationship between Israel and the US.

"According to reporting on the exchange, the American President (Donald Trump) told Netanyahu bluntly that patience had run out, that everyone was tired of him, and that Israel owed its very existence to American backing. (US Vice-President) JD Vance had gone further still, publicly casting the United States as Israel's only real ally, a framing that, if left unanswered, would have conceded that Israel has no independent standing in the world at all. Netanyahu's reply was pointed: Israel has 'other friends, like India,'" the report said.

It added that the remarks regarding India are not just part of the niceties of a bilateral relationship but a rebuttal to a specific "insult" that suggested Israel is a dependent, not a partner. The rebuttal only works if the claim about India is substantively true.

"A Prime Minister does not reach for an empty gesture when his strategic legitimacy is being questioned by his own patron. He reaches for the thing he can actually point to. That is the fuller dimension of the statement: it is less about India as sentiment and more about India as evidence, proof that Israel has begun building an alternative that does not require American permission to exist," the report added.

The ongoing discussions on defence between India and Israel make these comments something more than rhetorical improvisation, as Israel is running short on Industrial production of weapons, the report cites evidence to suggest a possible material relationship.

"Multiple reports over recent weeks describe Rafael Advanced Defence Systems negotiating with Indian private-sector manufacturers to establish a production line for Iron Dome's Tamir interceptors on Indian soil… it is a proposal to manufacture the actual missile Israel depends on to survive daily rocket, drone, and cruise-missile fire," the report said.

It said India solves a specific problem for Israel that no other country can quite match with its manufacturing depth and workforce scale to co-produce at volume.

"It (India) has no interest in dictating Israel's regional posture in exchange for cooperation, unlike a patron relationship. And it has demonstrated, through decades of maintaining relations simultaneously with Washington, Moscow, the Gulf states, and Tehran, that it can absorb a defence partnership with Israel without being pulled into anyone's bloc, which means Israel gains a partner without inheriting a new set of political conditions. That combination is genuinely rare," the report from the Times of Israel highlighted.

"We deeply mourn the passing of Father Amir of State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Canberra, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Australia was hailed by the country's media as a good sign for the economy and diplomacy, given the progress made between the two countries in different facets of their bilateral relationship.

Australia’s largest nationally distributed circulation newspaper, ‘The Australian’, said that "Modi’s visit is a good sign for the economy and diplomacy".

It said that PM Modi’s visit coinciding with China’s missile firing at the South Pacific "underlines the vital importance of our deepening relationship with New Delhi. More than almost any other nation, India has, over decades, had to confront Chinese communist aggression and subversive strategic chicanery from across its borders, and Australia and our Pacific partners have much to learn from it".

Melbourne’s biggest-selling newspaper, ‘Herald Sun’, called PM Modi a Marvel superhero, noting the large turnout for the reception at Marvel Stadium.

"Modi Mania: Indian PM’s a Marvel Superhero. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night received a rapturous reception from a 35,000-strong crowd at Marvel Stadium. Earlier, PM Anthony Albanese feted his high-profile guest amid talks which included new defence and Uranium deals", its report said.

The Australian also lauded the deals made during the visit.

"Modi comes bearing gifts on trade, defence. India promise: Uranium deal worth billions, closer military ties, investment treaty," the Australian newspaper said.

The Australian Financial Review reported the growing interest in the Australian universities in India to set up campuses.

"Australian unis rush to set up shop in India. Another Australian university is primed to set up a campus in India after being given approval during a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking the total opening in the fast-growing country to eight," it reported.

Melbourne daily, The Age, said: "Albanese’s modus operandi. Australia and India accelerate free trade moves in Melbourne as PM’s Anthony Albanese and Narendra Modi strengthen their bond," regarding the much-discussed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

New Delhi, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) India and Australia signed several agreements spanning several areas like defence, economic security, energy, education, science, technology, and culture, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Melbourne, showcasing that both nations do not view one another as important bilateral partners but as long-term strategic partners whose cooperation covers almost every major area of national policy, as per a report.

During his visit from July 8-10, PM Modi held meetings with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, and business leaders and addressed the Indian diaspora at an event at Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium, which was attended by 35,000 people, and included speeches from Albanese and Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan.

"Rather than producing a single headline announcement, Modi’s visit delivered a coordinated package of agreements spanning defence, economic security, energy, education, science, technology, and cultural links. Taken together, these agreements demonstrate that the relationship between the two countries is now reaching a level of institutionalisation that has previously eluded them," a report in The Diplomat stated.

Considering the fragile global environment, security cooperation remained in focus in these agreements. The new Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation was showcased as a "step-change" in bilateral ties, with both nations deciding to create an Annual Defence Ministers’ Dialogue, strengthen interoperability between their armed forces, and increase military exercises under the Mutual Logistics Support Arrangement.

PM Modi and Albanese announced an India-Australia Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap to strengthen information sharing, capability development, and operational coordination, and a Memorandum of Understanding between Australia’s Maritime Border Command and the Indian Coast Guard.

The two nations finalised the administrative arrangements required to enable the export of Australian uranium to India for exclusively peaceful purposes, with PM Modi saying the landmark agreement would strengthen India's clean energy ambitions and further deepen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Australia previously restricted uranium exports only to nations with strong nonproliferation commitments, and India’s status outside of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) was a major hindrance. However, Australia's decision to disregard this status now showcases the trust that it has in India now. This trust has not been built only due to the geopolitical realities that have brought India and Australia closer in their strategic understanding of the world, but through increased people-to-people connection.

"Defence and economic ties require social foundations. These exchanges not only come through Australia’s burgeoning diaspora, but through cooperation in education, science, and technology and the ability for universities and research institutions to expand their collaborations. Taken together, the swathe of agreements signed during Modi’s visit reflect a holistic conception of national security where each component is both interconnected and critical to the advancement of the others," the report in the Diplomar said.

"Rather than announcing a single major initiative – as is the norm on such visits – Modi’s trip to Melbourne demonstrated the web of institutional cooperation that now comprises the Australia-India relationship. The package of agreements was designed to showcase that both governments increasingly view one another not simply as important bilateral partners, but as long-term strategic partners whose cooperation spans almost every major area of national policy," it added.

New Delhi, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan remains a deeply volatile nuclear power, with its "First Use" doctrine and military-dominated command structure contributing to an increasingly precarious security environment, according to a report.

Pakistan’s nuclear posture rejects the No First Use (NFU) doctrine, showing a possibility that Islamabad launches a nuclear strike first in a conflict scenario, a report by Fair Observer noted, citing a former senior military official.

"The country’s nuclear arsenal is intended to respond to all forms of perceived threats from an adversary. Its strategy is guided by full-spectrum deterrence, explicitly aimed at countering India across every level of conflict — strategic, operational and tactical. Former Pakistani military strategist Khalid Ahmed Kidwai said the doctrine was designed to ensure full coverage of the Indian landmass and (India would have) 'no place to hide'," the report said.

The Constitutional Amendment of 2025 places control of Pakistan’s nuclear operations with the Chief of Defence Forces, which dramatically expands military power.

"This reform makes Pakistan the only nuclear-armed state where authority over nuclear use is entrusted to one military officer," the report highlighted.

According to it, international concern was sparked over Pakistan engaging in the development of Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNWs), lowering the nuclear threshold.

"Analysts warn that their deployment in conventional military conflicts significantly increases the risk of a ‘use it or lose it’ dilemma and unauthorised launch by lower-level commanders, raising the likelihood of a full-scale nuclear war," the report emphasised.

The report says that Pakistan also has a dangerous legacy of nuclear proliferation. Islamabad started developing a nuclear bomb in the 1970s after Abdul Qadeer Khan "stole classified information, sensitive centrifuge technology and nuclear blueprints while working as a subcontractor for URENCO in the Netherlands".

According to the report, he established a network with private suppliers for nuclear and missile-related technologies.

"By the 1990s, Khan had operationalised the world’s most dangerous nuclear black market, fueling the secret ambitions of Iran, North Korea, and Libya while even making overtures to Iraq. His network provided Tehran with critical P-1 and P-2 centrifuges, along with the designs, and traded enrichment hardware and centrifuges with Pyongyang. In Libya, Khan’s network attempted to export a turnkey nuclear programme involving weapons designs and over a million components," the report detailed.

After confessing the transfer of nuclear technology to Iran, Libya, and North Korea in 2004, Khan was pardoned by then Pakistani President Parvez Musharraf.

"Multiple international analysts and non-proliferation experts have argued that Khan’s global nuclear trafficking network could not have operated for decades without at least tacit support or knowledge from elements within Pakistan’s military and intelligence establishment… One such report claimed that many Pakistanis believed Khan had taken the blame to shield the wider establishment, particularly the military," noted the report by Fair Observer.

New Delhi, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has said that the Khalistan issue has caused "a huge amount of pain, loss, and suffering" in India, but asserted that it will not derail the growing partnership between the two countries, according to a report.

"We won’t tolerate intimidation or violence," he said in an interview, as per a Khalsa Vox report. Stressing that freedom of speech is cherished, he, however, warned that strict police action will be taken against threats, intimidation, or criminal behaviour related to Khalistan elements. This approach demonstrates a growing acknowledgement that a vocal minority do not represent the views of the whole Sikh community in New Zealand or the Sikhs around the world.

"Luxon’s government is striking the right chord: upholding liberal values without naivety. By marginalising extremists and elevating the productive mainstream of the Sikh community, New Zealand is fostering an environment where genuine cultural exchange flourishes. As India and New Zealand chart a forward-looking partnership, this sensible approach ensures that fleeting controversies do not overshadow shared opportunities in a multipolar world," the Khalsa Vox report said.

Luxon's remarks come at a time when India and New Zealand are deepening economic and strategic ties.

Indian-origin New Zealand MP Parmjeet Parmar said that pro-Khalistan protesters are "a very small number" that can be "counted on your fingertips." She said that pro-Khalistan protesters do not represent the views of the wider community, even the Sikhs in New Zealand, according to the report.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on an official visit to New Zealand from July 10-11. In a special gesture, PM Luxon saw off PM Modi at the airport as he emplaned for New Delhi after concluding his visit.

During his visit, PM Modi held discussions with Luxon at the Government House in Auckland. Their talks covered the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, defence and security, agri-tech, sports, education, tourism, culture and people-to-people ties.

Following the talks, both leaders witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of defence and maritime security, hydrography, sports, disaster management, dairy, tourism, maritime heritage, culture, food technology and ocean research.

Later, PM Modi and Luxon interacted with a select group of CEOs and business leaders. PM Modi described the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a landmark that would add depth and dynamism to the bilateral economic ties, and open new opportunities for market access, investment, services, technology and talent mobility.

The two leaders also attended a special Gala luncheon event themed 'India-New Zealand: A Winning Partnership' which was attended by eminent personalities from the fields of politics, business, industry, academia, technology, sports, and the arts.

Prime Minister Modi and Luxon did a walk-through of the innovative sports equipment that was put on display at the venue. They also interacted with decorated athletes from New Zealand and other stakeholders associated with high-performance sports.

PM Modi addressed a huge gathering of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand at the 'Kia Ora Modi' event, which was attended by 10,000 members of the Indian community. PM Luxon also joined the event as a special gesture.

Doha, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Qatar's Ministry of Transport on Sunday announced a temporary suspension of maritime navigation and all marine activities as a precautionary measure to safeguard public safety.

In a statement, the ministry advised owners and users of all maritime vessels, including leisure boats, fishing boats, jet skis, and other watercraft, to temporarily suspend sailing and all marine activities until further notice.

The ministry said the measure does not apply to vessels operating under international maritime conventions, Xinhua news agency reported.

It added that the precautionary measure was taken in coordination with the relevant security authorities, urging the public to comply with the directive and obtain updates only through official channels.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry, in a statement, has strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks targeting its territory and several neighbouring countries, describing them as a flagrant violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.

Meanwhile, the US-led Joint Maritime Information Centre said on Sunday that despite Iran announcing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the southern route along the Omani coast remains available and has been expanded to accommodate two-way traffic.

The advisory, released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, cited additional information from the US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), which said the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and is not subject to coercion or control by any single nation.

"Despite Iran's claims that the Strait is closed, US forces are prepared to maintain freedom of navigation and safeguard lawful commerce," NAVCENT said, adding that the southern route through the Strait remains open.

According to the advisory, the maritime security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains "severe." It also warned mariners to remain aware of a mine danger area within the traditional Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS).

Following the outbreak of the US-Israel-Iran conflict, the traditional TSS in the Strait of Hormuz became unsuitable for navigation due to the mine threat.

Following the signing of an MoU between the United States and Iran, two alternative transit routes effectively emerged: a northern route controlled by Iran and a southern route along the Omani coast, where U.S. forces provide navigation support and coordination.

Tehran, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Qatar, and Oman on Sunday in retaliation for US attacks against southern Iranian provinces earlier in the day.

In statements published on its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said the US Army had carried out airstrikes against several coastal military bases and communications towers along Iran's southern coasts.

In the first phase of its retaliatory operations, the IRGC said its forces hit "important" US infrastructure and facilities at the Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, destroying the base's command and control centre and the hangar for MQ-9 Reaper drones, Xinhua news agency reported.

In the second phase of its strikes, the IRGC targeted and stopped a "violating" vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, and hit the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, devastating its command as well as fighter aircraft overhaul and maintenance centres.

In the third phase, it noted, the logistical support centres and refuelling platforms of US aircraft carriers in the Omani port city of Duqm were targeted and demolished in a "heavy and surprise" attack.

The Iranian Army also targeted drone attacks early Sunday on what it described as "terrorist" US Army bases and centres in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the US "aggressions" earlier in the day.

It added that in Kuwait, a Patriot air defence system, an ammunition depot, and a radar site belonging to the US Army were hit by Iranian kamikaze drones, while in Bahrain, the US Army's communications system and a radar site were targeted.

The IRGC warned of more severe responses if the United States repeats its attacks against Iran.

The IRGC's Navy stressed that given the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz caused by "foreigners' illegal interference," the strait will remain closed until further notice, and that until the United States stops its interventions in the region, no vessel will be allowed passage.

New Delhi, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Beijing has started asking African countries to shift their debt repayments to China from the US dollar to the yuan as part of its strategy to strengthen its own currency and dent the dominance of the American currency in the global payment system as per a media report.

Kenya's decision to restructure part of its Chinese debt and shift repayment from United States dollars into Chinese yuan "is increasingly being interpreted as an early signal of a wider reconfiguration in international finance, one in which nations under pressure are searching for alternatives to the traditional dollar-centred order", according to the article in Nigeria’s Independent newspaper.

It points out that China, after rising into the ranks of the world’s largest economies, is seeking to reduce the importance of the dollar, as it is a currency that Beijing does not control.

China has risen as a predominant lender to Africa, and this did not emerge accidentally. It grew from a lacuna that many developing nations struggled to fill. Across the continent, governments faced enormous infrastructure deficits, roads remained unfinished, ports underdeveloped, rail systems outdated, power generation insufficient, and industrial expansion constrained by inadequate logistics. Traditional international lenders often attached governance conditions, extensive policy requirements and long approval timelines to financing. China was always on target, arriving with speed, scale and a different proposition.

The article underlined that historical estimates indicate African countries collectively accumulated roughly between $150 bn-$180 bn in Chinese lending commitments across two decades, though outstanding balances vary as loans mature and repayments continue. Countries such as Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Egypt, Cameroon, South Africa, and Nigeria emerged among major recipients of Chinese-backed development financing.

Nigeria itself illustrates both the attraction and complexity of the model. Chinese financing became associated with projects that were tangible and politically visible: modern rail corridors, airport terminal expansion, hydropower generation, communications infrastructure, urban transit systems and strategic transport links. Supporters argue these projects delivered assets that might otherwise have remained on drawing boards for years. Yet debt rarely arrives without conditions and consequences, the article observed.

The article pointed out that criticism of the Chinese model of lending is centred less on borrowing itself and more on what follows after construction ends. Infrastructure does not automatically create revenue at the pace repayment schedules demand. Governments collect taxes largely in local currencies while repayment obligations remain external. Currency depreciation therefore becomes a silent multiplier of debt pressure.

A railway may carry passengers, a road may shorten travel time, and a dam may improve electricity supply, yet those benefits do not always translate into immediate financial returns. Governments then face difficult trade-offs. More resources are directed toward debt servicing, leaving less fiscal room for education, healthcare, social investment, and security expenditure.

It is within this context that Kenya’s move becomes strategically important.

By renegotiating portions of Chinese debt from dollar denomination into yuan, Kenya sought relief from exchange pressures and lower financing costs. However, the debt remains, but the currency has changed. Supporters viewed the adjustment as economic pragmatism.

But the article observes that "currency is not merely a medium of exchange. It is influence".

China’s broader objective appears increasingly clear. The internationalisation of the yuan is no longer theoretical. Expanding yuan settlement systems, promoting cross-border financing and encouraging debt repayment in Chinese currency all point toward building an alternative financial architecture different from the dollar. Rather than overthrowing the dollar overnight, China appears to be constructing a parallel route alongside it, the article observed.

While this may appear attractive to some African countries, the risks remain substantial. For Africa, the central issue remains unchanged regardless of whether debt is denominated in dollars, yuan or any other currency. Borrowing only becomes development when it creates productive capacity that exceeds the cost of repayment, the article observed.

For the US, the issue is that if more countries settle trade outside the dollar, borrow outside the dollar and repay outside the dollar, the demand for dollar intermediation may gradually weaken at the margins. Financial influence that once appeared automatic may become contested, the article added.

Beijing, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) China's test-firing of a long-range ballistic missile with a dummy warhead from a nuclear-powered submarine into the Pacific Ocean - which it termed routine training - has sparked concerns, with Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and others criticising the move, as the timing and location inside the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone carry geopolitical signals, as per a report.

"China’s missile test is not just a technical exercise -- it is a geopolitical statement. By firing into a nuclear-free zone on the very day its rivals signed a defence pact, Beijing has reminded the Pacific that its ambitions extend far beyond routine drills. The question now is whether regional powers will respond with restraint or with their own escalatory moves," Khedroob Thondup, nephew of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, wrote in a report in European Times.

China's People’s Liberation Army Navy has termed the launch as part of its annual military training cycle, emphasising compliance with international law and denying that it targeted any specific nation. The test, conducted at a time when China and Russia hold joint naval exercises off Qingdao, demonstrates Beijing's intention to demonstrate military strength and coordination with Moscow, according to the report.

According to analysts, the missile may have been a JL-3, with an ability to reach the continental United States, showcasing China’s advancing submarine-launched nuclear deterrent, as per the report. The test-firing of the long-range ballistic missile was conducted on the same day when Australia and Fiji signed a defence pact aimed to counter China's influence in the Pacific.

"Firstly, this constitutes a violation of norms. The missile landed within the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone, established by the 1986 Treaty of Rarotonga. China ratified protocols in 1987 pledging not to test nuclear weapons there, making this launch symbolically troubling even if the warhead was a dummy. Secondly, it is a destabilising signal," Thondup wrote.

Japan urged China to reconsider while expressing "serious concern" over Beijing's move. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong called the launch "destabilising to the region," while New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said his country is "deeply concerned" by the launch of nuclear-capable weapons.

Peters emphasised that the launch appeared to be part of a "recurring pattern by China" following Beijing’s 2024 test-firing of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) into the South Pacific.

Taiwan's Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo said the launch comes after China's recent escalation of military activities along the island chains and the enforcement of legislation that allowed what she termed "transnational repression," referring to China's new "ethnic unity" law.

"Now, it is further attempting to intimidate the international community by test-firing an intercontinental ballistic missile."

Taiwan's Presidential Office "strongly condemns this series of unilateral actions" and urges Beijing to exercise restraint, follow the rules-based international order, and immediately stop its irresponsible unilateral actions, she added.

New Delhi, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent foreign visits have resulted in significant strategic, defence, and economic benefits for the country.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said this during a press conference at the party's headquarters in New Delhi on Prime Minister's recent visits to Seychelles, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as the visits of Japan's top leadership to India.

Patra titled his presentation "10 Kadam, 10 Ka Dum" and noted that through these visits, India has further strengthened its role in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions. He remarked that India is emerging as a "force for stability" across this entire region today.

"While governments and policies in many countries have changed over the past few years, India has established global trust through political stability, policy continuity, and economic strength. India has maintained its stability amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, global conflicts, and economic challenges," he said.

The BJP MP described Prime Minister Modi's foreign visits as a move to "strengthen strategic alliances in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions".

He noted that India has expanded its presence and cooperation in the maritime domain, extending from Seychelles to Indonesia.

Citing Indonesia's Sabang Port, he highlighted its "immense strategic importance" due to its proximity to the Strait of Malacca. He pointed out that the Strait of Malacca is one of the world's busiest maritime routes, facilitating a vast amount of international trade.

"Indonesia's interest in developing Sabang Port is significant for India from the perspectives of maritime security and trade. This initiative will strengthen India's strategic reach in the Indian Ocean region," he said.

"Defence and maritime cooperation form a crucial foundation for any nation's strategic strength. While India previously relied heavily on imports to meet its defence needs, the country is now advancing in the fields of defence production and exports," the BJP spokesperson further stated.

Citing the cooperation with Indonesia regarding the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, he described it as a "testament to India's growing defence capabilities". "India is evolving from a mere purchaser of weapons into a partner and exporter of defence equipment," he said.

Patra also highlighted the significance of the defence agreements signed between India and New Zealand. He mentioned that agreements have been reached to enhance cooperation between the Indian Navy and the New Zealand Defence Force.

"An MoU on maritime cooperation has been signed between the two nations, which will further strengthen defence ties; under this framework, both countries will collaborate in areas such as maritime security, training, and mutual cooperation," he said.

The BJP MP stated that a key objective of Prime Minister Modi's visits has been to foster cooperation in sectors such as critical minerals, energy security, and new technologies.

"India is expanding its strategic partnerships amidst the changing global landscape," he added.

"The Modi government's foreign policy aims to safeguard India's national interests and establish long-term relationships with major global powers," Patra said, adding that the recent foreign visits have further enhanced India's influence on the global stage.

Amaravati, July 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) All Telugu tourists stranded on Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island following the boat tragedy on Saturday have safely reached Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, the Andhra Pradesh government said on Sunday.

According to an official release, they will depart Hanoi at 7.05 p.m. (local time) by Vietnam Airlines and are expected to reach Hyderabad at around 10 p.m. IST.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam, the Andhra Pradesh government, and Andhra Pradesh Bhavan, New Delhi, continue to provide round-the-clock consular, logistical, and repatriation assistance.

Three persons from Andhra Pradesh were among 15 Indians who died in the accident that occurred during a leisure trip organised by a mobile phone company for the families of its cell phone distributors from India.

One of the tourist boats carrying the group met with an accident near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. The boat was carrying 32 passengers, of whom 15 lost their lives.

One person from Andhra Pradesh sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Vietnam.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday reviewed the assistance being provided to the victims of the Vietnam boat accident with officials.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), he directed officials to make swift arrangements to bring the victims back to their hometowns.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that Gelle Kishore, who was injured in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Vietnam, and that his health condition is gradually improving.

Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Vietnam said on Sunday that the mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who tragically passed away in Saturday’s boat accident are being transported to Ho Chi Minh City and will reach there by this evening.

After completion of formalities at Ho Chi Minh, the mortal remains would be transported to India at the earliest. The Embassy and the Consulate teams are closely coordinating with the Vietnamese authorities, who have assured all assistance for the earliest transportation of the mortal remains to India, the embassy said in a post on X.

Pyongyang, July 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) North Korea condemned "the United States and its vassal forces" for the inter-camp confrontation intention displayed at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Summit, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Saturday.

The spokesperson made the remarks in a press statement reported by the official Korean Central News Agency, saying the trans-Atlantic bloc is exacerbating the security environment of Europe and creating instability in the Asia-Pacific.

The US-led NATO allies and their partners incited confrontation throughout the NATO Summit, held earlier this week in Ankara, Turkiye, the statement said, calling it clear proof that the organisation is "a war and confrontation body that goes against international peace and security in all parts of the world while pursuing exclusive geopolitical interests."

The statement noted that the US, Japan and South Korea's call for "denuclearisation", which “completely lost its timeliness and practical feasibility, can never affect the position of the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), and the reality faced by the forces who have denied it for decades is a sufficient answer to this.”

"NATO is systematically exacerbating the security environment of Europe through the implementation of its reckless eastward advance policy, to maintain illegal justification for its existence, which should have been extinct with the end of the Cold War, and creating instability in the Asia-Pacific region by shifting its responsibility onto other countries. Its provocative moves can never be overlooked," said the statement, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The reckless acts of the confrontation forces posing a destructive threat to the world security mechanical structure give a realistic justification to the renewal and expansion of the physical deterrent to confront them,” it added.

North Korea will defend its national sovereignty and security interests and regional peace and stability by building up at an accelerated pace the strength capable of deterring the enemy countries' attempts at collective confrontation and their military threats, it said.
