Muscat, June 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) A fresh vessel incident has been reported off Oman's Shinas port, and details are being ascertained, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said.

"We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas port of Oman, earlier today . We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details", the embassy said in a post on X.

The development marks the third vessel-related incident reported off Oman in recent days.

The first incident involved MT Marivex on June 8, when a fire erupted aboard the vessel carrying 24 Indian seafarers south of the Strait of Hormuz.

The fire was reported at around 1:30 pm on Monday, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways said at an inter-ministerial briefing.

"This is the preliminary information which we have received. Based on this, as per available information, all Indian seafarers are presently safe. So, whether the ship was hit by a projectile or not, presently we are trying to get absolute information. As you are aware, the fire incident was at 1:30 today," Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director in the Shipping Division, had said.

The official said that they were in touch with the owners and trying to ascertain the facts, adding that they were also in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian mission in Oman.

The second incident on June 10 involved an attack on a commercial vessel, Settebello, off the coast of Oman. Of the 24 Indian crew members onboard the vessel, 21 were rescued while three others were killed.

In a statement on Thursday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said that three Indians seafarers who were reported missing are now confirmed dead.

"It is deeply unfortunate to learn of the tragic incident aboard the Palau-flagged MT Settebello. Sadly, three Indian seafarers initially reported missing are now confirmed dead after bodies have been located and identified," Sonowal posted on X.

"This is a profound loss to our maritime family. The Modi Govt stands firmly with the bereaved during this difficult hour and is fully committed to supporting the next of kin. I have directed officials to ensure immediate repatriation of the rescued crew members and swift return of the mortal remains of the deceased for their final rites," he added.

Hyderabad, June 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Koduru Anuroop Reddy, who lost his life while saving the lives of three friends in the United States recently.

He described this extremely tragic incident as heartbreaking.

On behalf of the Telangana government and the people, the Chief Minister extended his deepest condolences to Anuroop's parents, his brother Ashrit Reddy, and family members. He prayed to God for peace for Anuroop's soul.

In a letter of commendation sent to them, the Chief Minister stated that the government would stand by the family during this profound sorrow.

He noted that the news of Anuroop's tragic death, which occurred on May 29, at the Toro Bayou Park in the US state of Louisiana, has left all deeply shocked. At just 23 years of age, Anuroop, with a promising career and a bright future ahead of him, demonstrated exemplary courage, selflessness, and valour that stand as an inspiration to all, he said.

"When faced with a critical situation where three of his friends were in imminent danger of drowning, Anuroop did not hesitate. Without regard for his own safety, he plunged into the waters and successfully rescued his friends. While his heroic actions ensured they survived, it is our deepest misfortune that the cruel currents of destiny took him away from us," he wrote in the letter.

The Chief Minister stated that Anuroop’s act of supreme sacrifice embodies the highest values of human compassion and bravery. He has left an indelible mark of honour upon his homeland, Telangana.

He said that the human values, compassion, and courage displayed by Anuroop on that occasion are a testament to the highest sacrifice.

Following the Chief Minister's instructions, MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with a few MLAs, visited the student's home and paid tributes to Anuroop's mortal remains. They consoled the family members.

Anuroop, a native of Abdullapurmet on the outskirts of Hyderabad, had recently completed his master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of North Texas (UNT).

New Delhi, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and its Regional Officer in Dubai on a plea filed by a Class 12 student from Saudi Arabia seeking the declaration of his result, which continues to remain withheld despite a special assessment scheme framed for students affected by examination cancellations in West Asian countries.

A bench of Justices Manmohan and Vijay Bishnoi issued notice to the CBSE and its Regional Officer, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and posted the matter for further hearing on June 12.

During the hearing, counsel appearing for the CBSE informed the apex court that the assessment of the student, Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, was required to be carried out by the school concerned. However, since the petitioner appeared as a private candidate, no such assessment record was available.

In response, the Justice Manmohan-led Bench orally observed that the petitioner's past academic records could be considered and asked the CBSE's counsel to obtain instructions in the matter by Friday.

The CBSE counsel informed the Supreme Court that the Board was already working on the issue and sought time till Monday. The top court, however, listed the matter for hearing on June 12.

The writ petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution by Patel, contended that the non-declaration of his result has jeopardised his higher education prospects and deprived him of admission opportunities.

According to the plea, Patel appeared as a private candidate in the CBSE Class 12 Improvement Examination, 2026, from Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia in the subjects of physics, chemistry, mathematics, English, and computer science.

The petition stated that during the examination period, the CBSE cancelled several examinations, including mathematics, English, and computer science, due to war-related tensions and security concerns prevailing in the Gulf region.

Recognising the disruption faced by students in West Asian countries, the CBSE had issued an assessment scheme on March 27 for the declaration of Class 12 results in the affected region. The scheme provided for evaluation based on Quarterly, Half-Yearly and Pre-Board Examination performance and also contemplated the conduct of special examinations, wherever necessary.

However, when the CBSE declared the Class 12 results on May 13, the petitioner's result was not announced, and his status was reflected as "R.L. (Result Later)". The plea said that despite repeated representations to the CBSE seeking the declaration of the result under the assessment scheme or permission to appear in a special examination, no response was received, and the result continued to remain withheld.

It added that the continued withholding of the result has caused serious prejudice to the petitioner's academic career, as he has been unable to complete the admission process for a B.Tech programme and apply to other institutions.

The petition alleged that the action of the authorities was arbitrary, unreasonable, and discriminatory, violating the petitioner's fundamental rights under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. Seeking urgent intervention, the plea filed, through advocate Vineet Jindal, has sought directions to the CBSE to declare the Class 12 Improvement Examination result by applying the assessment scheme issued for West Asian countries. In the alternative, it has sought directions for conducting a special examination for the cancelled subjects and the grant of consequential reliefs.

Tehran, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) India on Monday reiterated its travel advisory for Iran amid the ongoing developments in the region, urging its nationals to avoid travelling to it and those there to leave the country by all available means.

In a statement shared on X, the Indian Embassy in Iran said: "In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian Nationals to avoid any travel to Iran."

"Indian Nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport," it added.

The advisory comes as tensions continue to escalate in West Asia following recent exchanges between Iran and Israel.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that it has struck "several targets" at the petrochemical complex in Iran's Mahshahr area.

In another statement, the Israeli military said that all the Iranian missiles launched at Israel on Monday morning were intercepted.

The IDF stated that the impact reported in an open field in the West Bank was likely a large fragment after an interception. Furthermore, an all-clear was given in the Jerusalem area after an early warning was issued for an Iranian missile attack, The Times of Israel reported.

On Sunday, Ali Abdollahi, chief commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned that Israel will face more "crushing and regret-inducing blows" if it expands its attacks on southern Lebanon and the Dahieh district south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut or responds to Iran's action.

In a statement aired by Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Sunday (local time), he stressed that Israel must stop its attacks on southern Lebanon and Dahieh; otherwise, "devastating" attacks will begin against Israel and its supporters.

Israel has increased its "malicious actions" against Lebanese people on a daily basis with the US "greenlight" and international organisations' lack of response and "is perpetrating war crimes by using banned weapons, including phosphorus bombs," Abdollahi said.

Despite Iran's earlier warnings, Israel has increased its attacks on southern Lebanon and has targeted Dahieh by crossing all red lines, he said.

The ongoing tensions in West Asia erupted following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military officials. In response, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting the US and Israeli facilities, regional capitals and allied forces in West Asia.

A ceasefire between Iran, the United States and Israel took effect on April 8. In recent weeks, Iran and the United States have reportedly exchanged several proposals outlining conditions for peace and are working to finalise a memorandum of understanding aimed at formally ending the conflict.

Singapore, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Singaporean authorities have ordered social media platforms to block access to several online posts that were targeting the Indian community by suggesting that the island nation was being overrun by Indians, a report said.

Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement on Saturday that the investigation revealed that the content most likely originated from a platform based in China and was subsequently carried on other platforms and websites.

According to MHA, images and videos of crowded streets in Little India of Singapore and religious festivals in Pagoda Street were selectively used in the content to back the claim of Singapore being "overcrowded" with Indians, The Straits Times reported.

MHA said that this content undermines Singapore’s model of multiculturalism.

“Singapore firmly opposes nativism and xenophobia. Any attempt to pit one community against another here must be firmly rejected. These attacks coming from a foreign source are doubly unacceptable," the Ministry said.

MHA, along with the Singapore Police Force, assessed that these posts are likely to be an offence under Section 298A of the Penal Code, which deals with crimes related to knowingly promoting feelings of enmity, hatred, or ill-will between different groups on grounds of race, or committing an act prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different racial groups in Singapore.

According to the report, the content also contains derogatory and demeaning language to refer to the Indian community, such as "concentration of curry", comparing the increases in the numbers of the Indian community.

“I would say any country seeking to safeguard its social cohesion would agree with us that such content is unacceptable and would take a similar stance to safeguard their own society,” Law Minister Edwin Tong said on Saturday.

Disabling directions under the Online Criminal Harms Act for the content have been issued for the content on YouTube, Facebook, and X by the police.

The posts were also primarily in Chinese.

“These are malicious efforts to sow discord by inciting ill-will against the Indian community in Singapore,” the MHA noted.

“We urge Singaporeans to be discerning when consuming and disseminating information online, and to reject all attempts to divide our society,” it added.

New Delhi, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) The incident where slogan-shouting pro-Khalistan activists barged into an Indian High Commission outreach event in London, forcing police to be called in, is a stark contrast to the principles that Sikhism has championed for over five centuries, an article said.

Political movements are meant to serve education, foster dialogue, create economic opportunities, strengthen communities, and persuade through reasoned argument, according to an opinion piece by Harleen Kaur in Khalsa Vox.

"They do not gain legitimacy by disrupting civic services, intimidating attendees, or desecrating national symbols," she stressed.

Globally, Sikhs have earned respect because of their courage and compassion, not by shouting slogans through megaphones or disrupting public events, Harleen Kaur noted.

By serving free meals through 'langars', providing disaster relief, defending the vulnerable, or contributing disproportionately to public service and national development across the world, the community has built a reputation grounded in "action and service", she said.

Harleen Kaur contended that this legacy of the Sikhs gets tarnished when a small group chooses provocation over principle.

"If the proponents of Khalistan genuinely believe in their cause, they are free to advocate for it through democratic means, public debate, scholarship, political engagement, and peaceful persuasion. That is how legitimate movements operate in democratic societies. But when activism descends into intimidation, vandalism, and disruption, it ceases to be advocacy and becomes mere spectacle," she wrote.

She described the incident as "a tragedy" since such disruptions do not strengthen the cause these activists claim to represent, but "they weaken it".

Such disturbing incidents lead to alienation of ordinary people, reinforcement of negative perceptions, and distraction from meaningful dialogue, she said.

The disruptions by Pro-Khalistanis are far from the timeless teachings of the Sikh Gurus, whose lives serve as a guiding light for millions following Sikhism. While the Sikh Gurus taught courage guided by wisdom, conviction tempered by humility, and resistance rooted in righteousness, these activists chose confrontation over conversation, Harleen Kaur maintained.

Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assistance and intervention in addressing the "economic plight and uncertain future" of Indian paramedics, predominantly from the southern state, working in the UAE.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Satheesan said that the Indian healthcare professionals, including nurses, are facing a host of visa-related issues in the Gulf nation due to the prolonged face-off between the US and Iran in the region, and this is making it difficult for them to obtain employment, visit, and dependent visas.

Making a specific reference to an Iranian hospital in Dubai, he said that the healthcare workers from the state are facing an extremely distressing situation.

Further raising concerns over a possible threat to their job and livelihoods due to certain restrictions in the conflict-hit zone, the Kerala CM said that many of them are on the verge of completion of their grace period and said that they may face ‘forced deportation’ upon expiry of their stay in the UAE.

"Many affected individuals are currently nearing the end of their grace period and fear that they may be compelled to leave the UAE, potentially jeopardising their future employment opportunities and professional licensing," he wrote in the letter, flagging an imminent threat to the livelihoods of scores of medics.

"The situation has caused immense anxiety among numerous Malayali families whose lives and children's education are rooted in the UAE," he added.

Satheesan demanded that the Ministry of External Affairs engage with the Embassy of India in the UAE and relevant UAE authorities to explore a fair and compassionate resolution on humanitarian grounds.

The Kerala CM also highlighted the contribution of Indian healthcare workers in the entire Gulf nation, including the UAE, in ensuring seamless healthcare and also fighting emergent situations.

“These professionals served with dedication and distinction, including during the Covid-19 pandemic, when they stood on the front lines of healthcare delivery,” he said.

London, June 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a tour that has placed an Indian philosopher on the stage of some of Britain's most prestigious intellectual and policy stages, Acharya Prashant has spent the past week carrying a climate message to capacity audiences at the Cambridge Union, in a one-on-one dialogue with a British peer of the realm, in public sessions that have drawn British audiences well beyond the Indian community, and across a sequence of upcoming engagements at Oxford, the London School of Economics, King's College London, and London Climate Action Week.

The audiences have been global, the venues among the most storied in the world, and the message at every stop has been the same: the Western approach to the environmental crisis has not worked, and no summit, no treaty, and no efficiency gain will fix it, because none of them addresses the one variable that drives the crisis.

When Acharya Prashant arrived at the Cambridge Union on May 30 for a fireside chat moderated by Professor Jaideep Prabhu, Director of the Centre for India and Global Business at Cambridge Judge Business School, the session had been scheduled for an hour, but it did not go as planned.

An audience of economists, MBA students, business scholars, and policymakers drawn from across the world kept the questions coming, each one deepening into the next, until what had been planned as a single session extended across nearly three sessions over two days.

The Cambridge India Business Dialogue, hosted by Cambridge Judge Business School, brings together senior figures from business, policy, and academia across India and the UK; that its 2026 edition included a fireside chat with an Indian philosopher as a centrepiece reflects a growing recognition that the questions dominating global policy rooms are not purely technical ones. On June 1, he sat across from Lord Krish Raval, Baron Raval of Hertsmere, in a moderated interactive session hosted by the NISAU (the National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK). Lord Raval, a life peer appointed to the House of Lords in January 2025 and founder-director of Faith in Leadership, is among the most prominent British Indian voices in public life. The two covered several dimensions of the climate and environment crisis, among other topics, in a dialogue that drew an engaged audience from across Britain.

Alongside the institutional engagements, Acharya Prashant has been holding public sessions across Britain that have drawn audiences from the wider British public, not only from within the Indian diaspora. His public talks held at Middlesex University, London, brought together a cross-section of attendees reflecting the breadth of interest his work has generated in Britain. The pattern across every venue, institutional and public alike, has been the same: halls filling, sessions running beyond their allotted time, and audiences that span students, academics, working professionals, policymakers, and members of the general public. His work has long reached audiences across more than 100 countries; the response from the British public has simply made that global standing visible in one of the world's most-watched intellectual capitals.

The venues ahead are no less significant. Oxford, the London School of Economics, and King's College London each represent a distinct node of global intellectual and policy influence, and each has extended an invitation for sessions centred on the same climate argument. Among the upcoming engagements is a session during London Climate Action Week, the largest independent climate gathering in Europe, drawing policymakers, scientists, business leaders, and civil society representatives from across the world. To move from the Cambridge Union through a House of Lords dialogue, public sessions across British cities, and on to Oxford, LSE, King's College London, and the continent's foremost climate policy gathering, carrying a single coherent argument throughout, is a sequence with few precedents for any speaker, let alone one whose primary audience has until recently been in India.

The climate case he has made at each venue rests on a simple and uncomfortable observation. Thirty Conferences of the Parties since Rio in 1992 have watched atmospheric carbon dioxide climb without interruption. "Outwardly, we are more prosperous and powerful than at any point in history," he told the packed Cambridge gathering. "Inwardly, we are still cavemen." The tools available to civilisation have grown immeasurably; the wanting that drives their use has never been examined. Stopping, he has said, does not require time. It is the reaching that requires time, and three decades of climate summits have been exercises in reaching harder while the inner driver of the crisis remains untouched.

What has drawn these audiences is not only the argument but the scale of the work behind it. Acharya Prashant's Gita Mission reaches more than 150,000 enrolled students across more than 100 countries, meeting nightly through a structured, examination-based programme built around the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and other philosophical traditions, explicitly designed as mass-based education of the self rather than elite instruction. His digital platforms extend that reach further, drawing audiences across more than 100 countries, and it is this combination of mass reach and institutional recognition that has made his UK tour a point of attention across communities in Britain.

(Acharya Prashant is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad and the founder of the PrashantAdvait Foundation. Between August 2025 and April 2026, he conducted over 200 sessions across 18 cities in India, addressing students at more than 12 IIT campuses, IISc Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Bangalore, and BITS Pilani, among others. His book 'Truth Without Apology', published by HarperCollins, and his weekly columns in The Pioneer, Deccan Herald, and The Sunday Guardian carry the same inquiry into mainstream public discourse. The Watkins Mind Body Spirit list for 2026 placed him at number 20 among the world's top 100 spiritually influential figures. World Environment Day this year finds him mid-tour in Britain, with further engagements ahead, the conversation that began at Cambridge still continuing.)

New Delhi, June 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Class 12 student who appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) Improvement Examination from Saudi Arabia has moved the Supreme Court seeking directions for the declaration of his result, alleging that it continues to remain withheld, despite a special assessment scheme framed for students affected by examination cancellations in West Asian countries.

The writ petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution by Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, contended that the non-declaration of his result has jeopardised his higher education prospects and deprived him of admission opportunities.

According to the plea, Patel appeared as a private candidate in the CBSE Class 12 Improvement Examination, 2026, from Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Computer Science.

The petition stated that during the examination period, the CBSE cancelled several examinations, including Mathematics, English and Computer Science, due to war-related tensions and security concerns prevailing in the Gulf region.

The plea said that despite repeated representations to the CBSE on May 17, May 21, and May 30 seeking the declaration of the result under the assessment scheme or permission to appear in a special examination, no response was received.

"The petitioner repeatedly approached the respondents (authorities) requesting a declaration of his result either by applying the Assessment Scheme or by permitting him to appear in a Special Examination. However, no response has been received and the result continues to remain withheld,” the petition stated.

It added that the continued withholding of the result has caused serious prejudice to the petitioner's academic career.

According to the plea, Patel had applied for admission to a university for a B.Tech programme in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and had paid the requisite registration fee.

According to the plea, the varsity required candidates to update their Class 12 result status by June 1.

"Due to the failure of the Respondents to declare the result, the Petitioner has been deprived of the opportunity to complete the admission process and is also unable to apply to other institutions," the petition said. The petitioner alleged that the action of the authorities was arbitrary, unreasonable and discriminatory, violating his fundamental rights under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.

The petition further said that the petitioner had initially approached the Delhi High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution. However, according to the plea, the matter was not treated as an urgent case during the court vacation period and was not listed before the Vacation Bench.

"That in these circumstances, the Petitioner has no efficacious alternative remedy except to invoke the extraordinary writ jurisdiction of this Hon'ble Court seeking appropriate reliefs for declaration of his result and protection of his academic future," the petition said.

Seeking urgent intervention, the petitioner has prayed for directions to the CBSE to declare his Class 12 Improvement Examination result by applying the assessment scheme issued for West Asian countries. In the alternative, the plea, filed through advocate Vineet Jindal, has sought directions for conducting a special examination for the cancelled subjects and for the grant of consequential reliefs.

New Delhi, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The pro-Khalistan elements operating in various parts of the world are now deploying the glamour quotient to recruit youth and urge them to commit crimes.

A new trend has been noticed on the social media accounts that are run by pro-Khalistan elements.

Earlier, there would be messages aimed at radicalising the youth. However, that failed to pick up any traction, and hence they decided to make the movement "glamorous".

Images of people posing with guns and pistols are being frequently posted on social media. Videos of people firing with AK-47s are also doing the rounds, officials say.

One video in particular that has gone viral and has got the most traction is the one of slain terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The video shows him firing an AK-series rifle at a training camp in British Columbia.

An Intelligence Bureau official said that these videos are gaining heavy traction on X, Facebook, and TikTok. The idea is to romanticise the guns, the official added.

This strategy is similar to the one that was followed by slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in Kashmir. He and his associates would often pose with rifles and pistols while also showing off expensive bikes on social media.

This was a major draw among the youth, and the Hizbul Mujahideen was able to recruit in large numbers after it decided to use glamour as a way to pull the youth into its fold, the official also added.

The Khalistan elements have, in many cases, successfully recruited using this strategy. In the name of the Khalistan movement, many have sourced guns and even put up their pictures on social media.

Armed with guns, many have indulged in shooting and extortion activities, another official said.

Officials say that the ideology of having a separate Khalistan nation carved out of Punjab has not resonated with the youth, be it abroad or in India. The teenagers and the younger lot are, however, impressed with the idea of wearing expensive clothes and also brandishing a gun. This is the audience that is being targeted by these Khalistani elements, officials say.

Another official pointed out that the idea is to make the Khalistan movement and the crimes associated with it look cool. The youth normally do not understand the consequences of joining such syndicates. The idea of being cool, getting rich and powerful is what attracts them, and hence there has been a change in the recruitment strategy, the official added.

There is a clear sense of desperation that has crept in. Newer strategies are being adopted as the Khalistan groups are under immense pressure from the ISI to ramp up activities in Punjab.

In recent months, Khalistan groups such as the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) have focused largely on Punjab operations. The BKI is resorting to smaller yet frequent attacks. This keeps the fear alive, and the chances of detection are also low. If one notices, the grenade attacks are higher in Punjab. This is a low-cost operation, and youth who have never been under the radar of the agencies are the ones being used to carry out such attacks.

Officials say that the older lot in Punjab would always like to keep the Khalistan movement out of the state. They know what their state underwent at the peak of the movement. However, that is not the case with the youth. The official said that the ideology may not impress them, but the glamour quotient sure does, and that is why the social media strategy to recruit them has changed entirely.

Canberra, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hailing their bilateral relationship, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the ties between the two nations continue to deepen through culture, education, cricket and trade and that he looks forward to hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future.

In his address at the Australian Parliament, Albanese highlighted India's economic growth and emphasised that the trade relationship between the two nations has been further enhanced by the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). He recalled his first visit to India in 1991, describing it as a "wonderful experience".

"India, of course, has the largest population in the world, but it will also grow to be the third largest economy in the world over this decade. That is an extraordinary opportunity for us in our region. We are a Pacific nation, but we are also an Indian Ocean nation as well. Our trading relationship has been enhanced by the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, and we are further drawn together through culture, education, and, of course, the international language of cricket. One of my great honours has been my two visits so far to India as Prime Minister."

"When I first visited India as a backpacker way back in 1991, a long time ago, I travelled a bit differently in those days. I do want to say, if you want to understand India, get on a video bus or train. It is a wonderful experience to see firsthand the warmth that is there. Now, likewise, will have the privilege of hosting Prime Minister Modi here soon, a privilege I look forward to repeating for the second time," he added.

Albanese lauded the Indian community's contribution to Australian society and how they have strengthened ties between the two nations. He expressed the Australian government's commitment to supporting Indians and their interests.

"Like last time, Prime Minister Modi's visit will be made extraordinary by so many of the million-strong Indian Australian community, the largest growing migrant community in Australia. That's a community that has added so much through their love of this country, their spirit of generosity and through generations of hard work and aspiration that have strengthened our economy and enhanced our society, not least, of course, all those wonderful small businesses that have benefited from the Indian diaspora," he said.

"What these great Australians have done in the process is strengthen the important links between this land that is their home and future and the land of their extraordinary heritage. I say to them, we're a better country because of you. My government will always stand up for you and your interests. We will reject any attempt to divide. That is definitely worth noting that we need to celebrate the contribution that Indian migrants have made and will continue to make to this country," he added.

While sharing Albanese's video on X, Australia's High Commissioner to India Philip Green said: "When your Prime Minister Anthony Albanese speaks with so much conviction & passion about India - the country where you serve as the High Commissioner - it makes your job infinitely more meaningful. We look forward to welcoming you to Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji."

Ahmedabad, May 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) A family from Ahmedabad has appealed for urgent intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Gujarat government after their 23-year-old son, a medical student in Georgia, went missing 12 days ago amid allegations of harassment by his landlord and roommates.

Dhvanit Rajdeep, a resident of Virat Nagar in Ahmedabad, was studying medicine in the ninth semester at the Caucasus International University. According to his family, he was last in contact with them on May 14 before his phone suddenly got disconnected and has remained switched off since.

Speaking to IANS, his father, Dr Mayur Kumar Rajdeep, alleged that Dhvanit had been facing sustained mental harassment at the rented flat where he had been staying.

"Dhvanit was studying medicine in the ninth semester in Georgia. He had recently rented a flat belonging to a local Georgian resident. His roommates were mentally harassing him in different ways -- taking away his tiffin, not letting him study, and creating various disturbances," he said.

He further alleged that after his son decided to shift to another accommodation and had already moved part of his belongings, tensions escalated.

"My son had shifted half of his belongings to another flat the previous day. But after that, Anil (his flatmate) started threatening him. He was told that they knew where he was moving and would come there and kill him. He also received death threats through messages. After that, Anil demanded money from my son," he said.

Dr Rajdeep claimed Dhvanit later went back to the previous flat to collect the remaining belongings and return the keys.

"He went there to give money, collect his belongings and hand over the key. Even there, he was mentally harassed. Finally, he called me and told me that despite giving money, he was still being harassed," he said.

The family has also alleged that Dhvanit was forced to transfer around $6,500 dollars from his account while being confined in a room and deprived of access to his phone.

Dr Rajdeep said they informed Indian embassy officials and university authorities immediately after losing contact with him.

"We have immediately informed the Indian embassy and the university authorities. Our elder son has also travelled to Georgia to search for him," he added.

Dhvanit's mother, Dharmishtha Rajdeep, made an emotional appeal to authorities.

"I last spoke with my son on the 13th. The next day, he spoke to my husband. When I spoke to him, he told me he had reached the new flat with his luggage. We last had contact on the 14th. Since then, we have had no communication. I only request the government to take up the matter with the Georgian government," she said.

"Our only demand is that my son be brought back quickly. He was a scholar and worked very hard. He was supposed to return in September after completing his medical degree. I humbly request the Gujarat government to bring my son back as soon as possible," she added.

The family said Dhvanit's elder brother, Mihir Rajdeep, has reached Georgia from Canada and has been coordinating with police and university officials there.

According to the family, despite assistance from the Indian Embassy and outreach by local political leaders, they have not received any concrete update so far and claim that the local police and administration in Georgia have not taken sufficient action against those named in the complaint.

With no trace of the student nearly two weeks after he went missing, the family has now urged both the Centre and the Gujarat government to intensify diplomatic efforts and ensure his safe return.

New Delhi, May 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday described the United States as a "welcoming country" and termed the racist comments made against Indians as the actions of "stupid" people.

Addressing a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rubio stated that he takes such comments very seriously.

On being asked about racist remarks against Indians in the US, he responded: "I don't know how to address that, but I'll take that very seriously about the comments. Look, I'm sure that there are people who have made comments online and other places because every country in the world has stupid people. I'm sure there are stupid people here. There are stupid people in the United States who make dumb comments all the time. I don't know what else to tell you other than uh the United States is a very welcoming country. Our nation has been enriched by people who come to our country, have come from our country from all over the world, have become Americans, have assimilated into our way of life and have contributed greatly. So, that's all I can comment on that in regard to your point."

Highlighting the contribution of the Indian community in the US economy, Rubio said: "Over 20 billion dollars have been invested in the US economy by Indian companies. We want that number to continue to increase, and obviously, the expertise as well that they've provided to our economy has been very, very valuable."

Rubio also stated that the US is modernising its migration system and changes in immigration policy were applied across the world and "not India-specific." He noted that over 20 million people had illegally entered the US over the past few years and stressed the importance of addressing that challenge.

On concerns about the recent changes in J1 visa, F1, H1B visa and his message to Indians in this regard, Rubio said: "The changes that are happening now, or the modernisation of our migration system into the United States, is not focused, is not India-specific. It is global; it's being applied across the world. We are in a period of modernisation, and I'll be frank and honest with you because it's important to talk about this. We've had a migratory crisis in the United States. This is not because of India, but broadly, we had over 20 million people illegally enter the United States over the last few years, and we've had to address that challenge. In addition to that challenge, and I think this is true for India, this is true for every country in the world...Everything that you do as a country needs to be in your national interest, and that includes your immigration policy."

He noted that immigration has enriched the country, but stressed that the system must be adjusted with changing times.

"The United States, I believe, is the most welcoming country in the world for immigration. Every single year, a million people roughly become permanent residents of the United States and contribute greatly. My parents entered the United States as permanent residents in 1956 from Cuba and so it's a process that's enriched us, but it has to be a process that's adjusted in every era to the realities of the modern times in which you live, and we are, and it's long overdue," he added.

Rubio said that the US is currently undergoing a process of reforming the system and acknowledged that the transition could create some difficulties and friction points. However, he stated that the system that will be implemented after the process will be more efficient and better than the previous system.

"The United States is currently undergoing a process of reforming the system by which we choose how many people come into our country, who comes in, when they come in, etc. Anytime you undertake a reform, anytime you undertake a change in the system by which you admit people, or frankly anytime you undertake a reform in any system, not just on immigration, there are going to be, there's going to be a period of transition that's going to create, you know, some friction points and some difficulties and so forth. Ultimately, we think that when this process is in place, once this process has been modernised, and that's really what it is. We are modernising the US immigration system for the 21st century so that it is an immigration system that's not just good for America, but it's also good for the people that are coming."

"Once we are complete and once we've done the work of modernising that system, I think we're going to .. going to wind up with a system that's more efficient and even better than the previous system, and in some ways may prove to be even more beneficial than the previous system was to people from India who seek to enter the United States to work and innovate. But, obviously, there's going to be a period of adjustment along the way. So I just don't... what I want to clear is that the changes, while they may be having a disproportionate impact on a place like India that provides so many high-skilled workers to the US economy, it is not a system that is targeted at India. It is one that's being applied globally. But we're in a period of transition, and like any period of transition, there's going to be some bumps on that road. But we think ultimately our destination is going to be a better system, a more efficient system, one that works better than the one that we had embraced previously and more sustainable by the way," he added.

Bhopal, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Raising concern over soaring airfares between India and Gulf countries, Rajya Sabha Congress MP Vivek Tankha has appealed to the Centre to step in with immediate corrective measures, saying the sharp increase in air ticket prices was severely affecting lakhs of Indian families dependent on annual travel to their hometowns.

In a letter addressed to the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday, Tankha sought government intervention to regulate fares on India-UAE and other Gulf routes during the peak summer travel season.

The senior Congress leader said that Indian expatriates working in Gulf countries, most of whom belong to middle and lower-middle income groups, were struggling to afford travel despite receiving annual travel allowances from employers.

"Over one crore Indians live and work across the Gulf region. The vast majority of them are middle-class workers whose livelihoods sustain millions of families back home in India," Tankha said, underlining the economic contribution of the Indian diaspora in Gulf nations.

He added that the annual summer visit to India was often the only opportunity for migrant workers to reunite with their families.

"For most of them, the annual summer visit is the one window in the year to join their families. It is not a luxury but a necessity," he said.

According to Tankha, airfare prices on India-Gulf sectors have risen to such an extent that employer-provided Fixed Travel Allowances (FTA), usually around AED 1,000, no longer cover even half the ticket cost.

He warned that the situation was forcing many families to postpone or cancel travel plans altogether.

Calling the issue a matter of public interest, Tankha urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to review airfare structures and explore temporary subsidisation between June and August.

He also suggested increasing the frequency of budget airline services on Gulf routes to provide immediate relief to passengers.

"The human cost of prolonged separation, of children growing up without a parent present and the quiet toll it takes, is equally significant," he added.

Washington, May 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) A group of Democratic lawmakers has introduced a House resolution condemning what they described as racist rhetoric targeting Indian Americans and Chinese Americans after President Donald Trump amplified a controversial social media post questioning birthright citizenship and immigrants' loyalty to the United States.

The resolution, introduced by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi alongside Congressman Ted Lieu and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, says such rhetoric fuels discrimination and violence at a time of rising 'anti-Asian' hate in the United States.

The measure follows Trump's April 22 amplification on Truth Social of a post by radio host Michael Savage that used derogatory language about India and China and questioned immigrants' loyalty to America.

"When President Trump amplifies racist rhetoric targeting Indian Americans and Chinese Americans, it sends a dangerous message at a time when both communities already face hate and discrimination. The President of the United States should be condemning racism, not fueling it," Krishnamoorthi alleged.

He said Indian Americans and Chinese Americans had "strengthened our communities, grown our economy, served our nation in uniform, and helped carry forward the promise of America".

Lieu, who immigrated to the United States as a child, said Asian Americans had long been treated as "perpetual foreigners".

"Racist, xenophobic rhetoric has no place in America. Immigrants strengthen this nation every single day, and no amount of hateful rhetoric from a racist President will ever change that," he added.

Jayapal accused Trump and the Republicans of turning to "racism and xenophobia as a distraction".

"Disgusting, hateful rhetoric like this being promoted by the President of the United States will only add fuel to the fire as 'anti-Asian' hate is already on the rise," she said.

The resolution condemns "racist language propagated by the President against individuals of Indian and Chinese origin" and calls on elected officials to avoid language promoting "racial or ethnic division or stereotypes".

It also reaffirms that immigrants, including Indian Americans and Chinese Americans, are "vital to the fabric of the United States".

The text of the resolution refers to an "alarming surge in anti-Asian hate online" since the 2024 Presidential election and says anti-South Asian rhetoric increased sharply across social media platforms.

The resolution specifically cites a Truth Social post amplified by Trump that referred to immigrants from India and China in "sweeping and derogatory terms".

Civil rights groups and advocacy organisations endorsed the measure.

Vincent Pan of Chinese for Affirmative Action said language targeting entire communities "fuels prejudice, discrimination, and violence".

Shakeel Syed of South Asian Network said Trump's "ongoing racist tirade against Indian and Chinese Americans must stop now before more innocent people lose their lives".

The resolution is also backed by "STOP AAPI Hate" and "Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC)".

Indian Americans are among the fastest-growing immigrant communities in the United States and have emerged as a major political and economic force over the past two decades.

Several Indian Americans currently serve in Congress, state governments, technology firms, academia, and the US military.

One member of the Indian diaspora said, “It is very good that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming. The Prime Minister has been doing good work so far, and hopefully, he will continue to do so in the future.”

Another member said, “According to me, this visit is very important as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming here. These relations should grow stronger, which is good for us and also beneficial for Norway.”

“I feel Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very proactive. At a time when the world is facing challenges related to oil, gas, and natural resources, Norway can support India in many ways. He is visiting countries where previous Prime Ministers had not gone. The Indian community here is very happy,” another stated.

An Indian community member stated that it is a matter of "great pride" that a representative of 1.5 billion Indians is coming to Norway. "I see it as an opportunity for both Norway and India. It is a matter of great pride for all of us living in Norway,” he said.

The visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to Norway and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 43 years. During the visit, he is scheduled to call on King Harald V and Queen Sonja, besides holding bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

The Prime Minister will also address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit along with the Norwegian Prime Minister.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit will provide an opportunity to review the progress made in India-Norway relations and explore avenues to further strengthen them, with a focus on trade and investment, capitalising on the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, as well as on clean and green tech and blue economy.

"The visit will also be an opportunity to induce momentum in bilateral trade worth around $2.73 billion (2024), and investments by Norway’s Government Pension Fund (GPFG) of close to $28 billion in the Indian capital market," the MEA stated.

The 3rd India-Nordic Summit will take place in Oslo on May 19, 2026. PM Modi will be joined by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir, and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson for the Summit.

The Summit will build upon the two previous Summits held in Stockholm in April 2018 and in Copenhagen in May 2022, and will impart a more strategic dimension to India’s relationship with the Nordic countries, especially in technology and innovation; green transition and renewable energy; sustainability; blue economy; defence; space and the Arctic.

"The visit will also provide an impetus to India’s bilateral trade (USD 19 billion in 2024) and investment ties with Nordic countries as well as help build resilient supply chains following the India-EU FTA and India-EFTA TEPA," the MEA stated.

Washington, May 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) For 36 years, Kashmir existed for Sheerin Raina in fragments -- stories told at the dinner table in New Jersey, fading photographs, temple names spoken with reverence, and memories inherited from parents who had left in the middle of the night and never truly returned.

Now, at 21, she is preparing to go there for the first time.

In an exclusive webinar interaction with IANS, Kashmiri Pandit community leaders, activists and second-generation youth across the United States described their planned June visit to Kashmir as both a pilgrimage and an act of cultural survival.

"I have been asking my dad since probably I was in seventh grade, you know, when can we go back to Kashmir?" Raina said.

"I didn't realise at the time that it's such a loaded and deep question."

In June, dozens of Kashmiri Pandits from across the world plan to travel together to the Valley in what organisers describe as a "heritage tour" and "international conclave" -- an attempt not merely to revisit a place, but to reconnect a scattered community with a homeland many fear is slipping into memory.

For the older generation, the journey carries the weight of exile. For the younger one, it is an attempt to understand who they are.

"This is our seventh exodus from Kashmir," said Rakesh Kaul, an author and community leader based in New Jersey.

"But in this most recent genocide and ethnic cleansing, this is the first time that we are formally going back in as large a number."

Kaul described the return not simply as a visit, but as an inheritance being passed to a younger generation raised far from the Valley.

"What we are doing... is we are giving a gift to our children who will be there," he said.

"The Kashmir that you have heard of from your grandparents, stories of pain... that Kashmir also has something very profound that is your living inheritance."

The tour, scheduled from June 6 to 14, will include visits to temples, heritage sites and ancestral places across Kashmir, followed by an international conclave themed: "From Exile to Excellence: The Kashmiri Pandit Journey of Resilience, Renaissance and Return."

Dr. Surinder Kaul, a Houston-based physician and co-founder of Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKPD), described the effort as both emotional and urgent.

"The biggest threat of our community is looming extinction," he said.

"We are not connected to our roots, and it's very important for our people to remain connected, for our kids, for our youth."

Kaul said nearly 90 per cent of the community had not been able to return to Kashmir since the militancy-driven exodus of 1989-90.

"We are not going there as victims," he said.

"We are going there as a resilient community."

Across the diaspora, organisers say the effort has become a collective attempt to preserve memory before it fades with time.

Nirja Kaul Sadhu, the New Jersey-based international coordinator of GKPD, has been among those helping drive the initiative, working alongside community organisers across countries to bring families, youth and survivors of the exodus into a shared effort centred on cultural continuity.

Many participants spoke less about politics and more about inheritance -- what happens when an entire generation grows up knowing its homeland only through grief-filled recollections.

"My connection to Kashmir now is mostly in my childhood memories," said Amit Raina, an IT professional from Houston who left Kashmir as a child.

"Memories of my home, memories of our temples, memories that are slowly fading away."

Still, he said, the community could not afford to remain paralysed by fear.

"We wanna go back to our homeland not as tourists, not as strangers, but as rightful sons and daughters of the soil," he added.

For some, the return is deeply personal.

"It is going back to see your mom," said Sunita Ticku Bhan, a Houston-based coordinator with GKPD US.

"You are away from your mother, and you are going to hug her and kiss her and tell her, 'Mom, I missed you for so many years.'"

Joining the discussion, Rommel Bhan, reflected on the emotional pull of returning to a land many still describe as spiritually inseparable from their identity.

Participants repeatedly said the journey was as much for their children as for themselves.

Vinod Raina, a New Jersey-based IT professional associated with the Kashmiri Overseas Association, spoke about wanting younger generations to see ancestral temples and heritage sites firsthand rather than only hearing stories about them at home.

"Our children deserve to know where their roots are," said Uphaar Kotru, President of the Kashmiri Overseas Association in California.

"Kashmir is not just a story that I've been telling my kids. It's a place that they know."

Mohan Wanchoo, an entrepreneur and GKPD US coordinator based in New York, said the initiative was also about rebuilding bonds within a dispersed community that had spent decades rebuilding lives across continents while trying to retain links to Kashmir's cultural and spiritual traditions.

For younger members like Sheerin Raina, the Valley exists as both paradise and wound.

"It's known as paradise on Earth," she said.

"But there's also a lot of darkness within there as well."

Still, she said, the stories must continue.

"Only we can control our story from here on out," she said.

"No one else will do it for us."

The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1989 and 1990 remains one of the most painful and politically contested chapters in modern Indian history.

Tens of thousands of Kashmiri Hindus fled their homes amid rising militancy, killings and threats, eventually dispersing across India and the world.

In recent years, renewed public discussion around the community's displacement -- amplified by activism, documentaries and films such as The Kashmir Files -- has brought greater visibility to their experiences.

Yet for many displaced families, the central question remains unresolved: whether return is still possible, and what "home" means after nearly four decades away.

Moscow, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) An Indian worker was killed, and three others suffered injuries in a drone attack in the Moscow region on Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Russia announced.

"One Indian worker has lost his life, and three others have been injured in a drone attack in the Moscow region earlier today. Embassy officials have visited the location and met the injured workers in the hospital," the Embassy wrote on X.

“The Embassy condoles the loss of life and is working with the company management and local authorities to provide necessary assistance to the workers,” it added.

Earlier on Sunday, Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky, regarding the latest strikes of Ukraine in Moscow, wrote on X: "Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified. This time, Ukrainian long-range sanctions reached the Moscow region, and we are clearly telling the Russians: their state must end its war".

Russia and Ukraine resumed attacks after a brief ceasefire between May 8 and May 11.

This ceasefire was announced ahead of celebrations of the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in World War II.

The “special military operation” by the Russian troops is continuing following the end of the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated last week.

Moscow also accused Kyiv of committing 30,383 cases of ceasefire violations during the ceasefire in the “special operation zone.”

The Russian President's Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, noted at a briefing last week that a lot of groundwork has already been laid to advance a settlement in Ukraine; however, it's too early to discuss specific dates and targets.

"The wealth of work in the peace process allows us to say that completion is indeed near," the Kremlin spokesman said. "But in this context, it's impossible to talk about specifics at this point."

The Hague, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Stressing upon the people-to-people ties between the two countries and the contribution of Indian diaspora in the Netherlands, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Dutch counterpart Rob Jetten during their meeting at the Hague on Saturday agreed to elevate the India-Netherlands bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership by following focused, time bound initiatives and joint plans of action.

Both the countries adopted the Roadmap of India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership for the next five years (2026-2030).

The Netherlands is home to the largest number of Indian origin people in mainland Europe, including around 200,000 members of the Surinami-Hindustani community. In this regard, he highlighted the liberalisation in OCI eligibility for the Surinami-Hindustani diaspora from 4th generation to 6th generation.

In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said: "The Indian diaspora is a living bridge of the India-Netherlands partnership. Our decision to extend OCI Card eligibility for the Surinamese Hindustani community from the fourth generation to the sixth generation has been enthusiastically received by the diaspora in the Netherlands!"

Earlier on Saturday morning before meeting his Dutch counterpart Jetten, PM Modi attended an Indian community reception in The Hague. Upon his arrival, he was accorded a warm and spirited welcome by a large gathering of the Indian diaspora and friends of India in the Netherlands.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic and colourful reception.

He praised the Indian diaspora for its contributions to the Dutch society and for serving as a living bridge of friendship between India and the Netherlands.

He also recalled the deep and enduring historical ties of the Surinami-Hindustani community with India, and commended their efforts to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage across generations.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the large number of Indian professionals in the technology sector and the growing number of Indian students in Dutch universities, particularly in innovation-driven fields, were adding strength to contemporary partnership between the two countries.

He also noted that sports linkages, in particular Cricket and Hockey, were contributing to new vibrancy to the close people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister underlined that bilateral cooperation with the Netherlands was steadily expanding, with technology and innovation emerging as key focus areas.

He underscored the robust and growing trade and economic relationship between the two countries, noting that the Netherlands is among India's largest export destinations in Europe and one of its foremost investment partners.

He added that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement would further unlock new opportunities for both sides.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the growth and progress happening in India with the objective to become a developed country -- Viksit Bharat by 2047.

He noted the scale and pace of the ongoing transformation in India through wide-ranging advancements across infrastructure, manufacturing, clean energy, and digital systems.

He emphasised that India was confidently shaping its own future, while contributing to global growth and prosperity.

The Prime Minister assured the community that the Indian government stood firmly behind every Indian living abroad and remained committed to their welfare.

He called upon them to actively contribute to the Viksit Bharat journey by leveraging their experience in the Netherlands.

New Delhi, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Twelve years ago, this day, on May 16, 2014, electors of India delivered a clear mandate to elect a stable government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It was a vote against alleged corrupt practises and reported coalition frictions during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime.

That day "something special happened", according to the Prime Minister himself.

"On this very day in 2014, the results of the Lok Sabha elections were announced. After decades, a stable and full majority government was set to be formed in India. From that day to this, the immense belief of the Indians has not let me stop or get tired. This is ongoing nonstop," PM Modi said on Saturday, addressing a huge gathering of the Indian diaspora at The Hague during his visit to the Netherlands.

India stepped into a new political era as Narendra Modi, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of India.

Today, his tenure is widely viewed not just as a longevity record, but as a period of sweeping structural reforms, assertive governance, and a recalibrated place for India in the global order.

"I am a small man who wants to do big things", underlines Prime Minister Modi's life, of rising from humble beginnings to serving India and its citizens.

Narendra Modi's first term as the country's Prime Minister was marked by mission‑style programmes that sought to deepen financial inclusion and modernise the economy.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched in 2014, opened more than 500 million bank accounts for the poor, bringing millions into the formal financial system.

It was "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" (together with all, progress for all, trust of all) became the slogan of his governance, emphasising inclusivity and collective development.

This was followed by the "Digital India" push, which expanded internet connectivity, digital payments, and e‑governance stacks, including Aadhaar‑linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), reducing leakages and ensuring subsidies reached intended beneficiaries.

"I dream of a Digital India where knowledge is strength -- and empowers the people", reflected the vision behind Aadhaar, UPI, and digital‑governance platforms.

In 2016, the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) unified India's patchwork of indirect taxes into a single, pan‑India regime, creating a common market and simplifying compliance for businesses.

The Narendra Modi government also introduced schemes such as 'Startup India' and 'Make in India' to boost entrepreneurship and manufacturing, while later reforms like production‑linked incentives (PLIs) and eased foreign‑direct‑investment norms helped position India as a global manufacturing alternative.

On the social‑welfare front, flagship programmes like Ayushman Bharat -- world's largest publicly funded health‑insurance scheme -- and the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana -- which provided free foodgrains to hundreds of millions during the pandemic -- became central to the narrative of "pro‑poor, pro‑middle class" development.

Income‑tax relief and moves such as raising the tax‑free slab for middle‑income earners also helped reshape the fiscal compact with salaried India.

The era has been distinguished by a strong approach to national security and internal cohesion with a harder line against cross‑border terrorism, including the Balakot air strikes in 2019, which symbolised a shift toward proactive deterrence.

Emphasis on "minimum government, maximum governance" translated into e‑governance platforms, time‑bound clearances, and the PM Gati Shakti infrastructure‑planning framework, which seeks to synchronise road, rail, port, and logistics projects across Ministries.

Under Prime Minister Modi, India has pursued a more visible and multipolar diplomacy, balancing ties with diverse nations while expanding global strategic partnerships.

India's role in global supply‑chain diversification, the "Brand India" narrative, and the Prime Minister's personal connect with overseas diasporas have helped burnish the country's image as an emerging global power.

Additionally, his government has been instrumental in implementing various initiatives that empower youth, women, and farmers in India.

Meanwhile, the BJP leveraged PM Modi's appeal and the idea of "double engine" governance to extend its footprint beyond the Hindi heartland.

State‑level consolidation reinforced the sense of a "national" BJP.

"I challenge the challenges. I like to face the problems", a line PM Modi has often used to project personal resolve in the face of crises built a distinct image of a work‑centric, goal‑oriented leader.

The last 12 years is recounted for a mix of bold policy strokes, assertive governance, and a re‑imagined role for India in the world.

The Hague, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted India’s democratic strength, growing global role and deepening partnership with the Netherlands while addressing a massive gathering of the Indian diaspora during his visit to the European nation.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd that repeatedly chanted “Modi, Modi”, Prime Minister Modi referred to the recently-concluded Assembly elections in several Indian States/UT and praised the high voter participation, especially among women.

“In the recently concluded Assembly elections in Assam, Bengal, Keralam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, there was 80-90 per cent voting, in which the women’s participation has significantly increased. We are proud that the voting records are being broken,” PM Modi said.

Referring humorously to the excitement among the gathering, PM Modi quipped, “Has Jhalmuri reached here too?” drawing loud cheers and applause from the audience.

Emphasising India’s democratic credentials, PM Modi said that the scale of participation in Indian elections remains unmatched globally.

“In India, over 90 crore voters are registered. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, 64 crore people voted. This means that more Indians voted than the total population of the European Union,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi described India’s democratic culture as a matter of collective pride and reaffirmed the country’s identity as the “Mother of democracy”.

“India values democratic participation. As the ‘Mother of democracy’, it is a matter of pride for all of us,” he said.

Speaking about the broader global situation, PM Modi said the world is currently passing through a period of multiple crises and uncertainties that threaten decades of developmental gains.

“When India gets successful, the entire humanity benefits. However, today, humanity is facing several challenges. Today’s world is fighting new challenges every day. First Covid, then wars and now energy crisis; this decade is turning into the decade of calamities of the world,” he said.

“If these situations are not changed soon, the achievements of the last multiple decades will be wasted. A large section of the world’s population will drown in poverty,” the Prime Minister added.

In this backdrop, PM Modi stressed the importance of resilient and future-ready supply chains, saying India and the Netherlands are working together closely in this direction.

“In these situations, the world is talking about a resilient supply chain, and in such situations, India and the Netherlands are working together to establish a future-ready supply chain,” he said.

He also referred to the recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union and expressed confidence that it would further deepen economic and strategic cooperation between India and the Netherlands.

Drawing a symbolic comparison between the two countries through their famous flowers, PM Modi said, “Just like the Netherlands is known for its Tulips, India is known for its Lotuses. Tulips and lotuses, both flowers, show us that no matter whether the roots are in land or water, if the flower gets proper nutrition, then it grows beautiful and strong. This is also a foundation of the partnership between the two countries.”

Highlighting sporting ties between the two nations, the Prime Minister praised the Netherlands cricket team for its performance during the T20 Cricket World Cup held in India and acknowledged the contribution of players of Indian origin in Dutch cricket.

“Just like Indians have a contribution in Netherlands cricket, the Netherlands contribute to Indian hockey. Coach Sjoerd Marijne has played a significant role in Indian women’s hockey,” he added.

The Prime Minister also recalled the "deep and enduring historical ties" of the Surinami-Hindustani community with India and commended their efforts to "preserve and celebrate" the rich cultural heritage across generations.

PM Modi called upon the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands to contribute actively towards India’s development journey and economic growth.

“I urge the Indian community in the Netherlands to contribute to India as much as possible, which will further increase the nation’s potential and also give more returns on your investments. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he added.

The Prime Minister also referred to the political significance of May 16, recalling the 2014 Lok Sabha election results.

“Twelve years ago, on May 16, 2014, something special happened. On this very day in 2014, the results of the Lok Sabha elections were announced. After decades, a stable and full majority government was set to be formed in India. From that day to this, the immense belief of the Indians has not let me stop or get tired. This is ongoing nonstop,” he said.

Reflecting on his public life and the support he has received, PM Modi said, “You all have become my family. I have chosen the path from Aham (I) to Vyam (We). And with a spirit of dedication, and with the blessings of you all, I strive to do whatever I can. However, I never even imagined that I would receive such immense love from the public.”

“When I look back, 13 years as the Chief Minister and 12 years as the Prime Minister, the continuous support of the 25 crore voters in this democratic world is a big thing for me. This is not just a figure, but a great wealth for me,” he added.

The Hague, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Lauding the Indian community's vibrancy, enthusiasm and spirit of celebrating life which always remains alive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said while history has witnessed numerous civilizations being wiped out, India's diverse culture still beats in the hearts of its people today.

Addressing a huge gathering of the Indian diaspora during his visit to the Netherlands on Saturday, PM Modi described The Hague as a “living symbol of Indian friendship”.

Beginning his address with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, PM Modi said, “So much love and excitement that for a short while, I had forgotten that I was in the Netherlands. It feels as though a festival is taking place right here in India.”

Referring to the significance of the Dutch city, he said, “The Hague is known as the ‘City of Peace and Justice’; however, seeing the atmosphere here today, it seems that The Hague has become a living symbol of Indian friendship. This shows that even though the colour of the passport, address and time zone can change, no matter where the children of 'Maa Bharati' live, this vibrancy and excitement and the motivation to celebrate life will always remain with them.”

The Prime Minister recalled his past visits to the Netherlands and reflected on the emotional connection shared by Indians settled there.

“I have visited the Netherlands several times in the past and have also shared a close connection with the Indians living here. The story of families sitting here today is not just that of a migration but of a culture, heritage and progress amid all the challenges and hardships. In those times, no one would have thought that after crossing two oceans, the identity of Indians would remain alive,” he said.

Speaking about his earlier interactions with the Dutch leaders, PM Modi said, “Whenever I have met the leaders of the Netherlands in the past, they always praise the Indian diaspora. The contribution you are making towards the Netherlands' economy and society is making every Indian proud. On this occasion, I would like to thank the public and the government of the Netherlands and convey my greetings on behalf of the 140 crore Indians.”

Highlighting the preservation of Indian values abroad, PM Modi said the ancestors of Indians living in the Netherlands may have left their homeland physically, but they carried their traditions, memories and values with them.

“With time, many cultures have vanished, but India's diverse culture still beats in the hearts of its people. Generations, countries, and circumstances changed, but the family's values and the sense of belonging did not. You adopted the Dutch language, but at the same time, did not forget the language of your ancestors,” he remarked.

Speaking about the popularity of Indian community radio stations in the Netherlands, PM Modi said these platforms are helping Indian music and culture reach Dutch households and keeping traditions alive among younger generations.

Emphasising India’s development trajectory, the Prime Minister said the country today is aspiring not only for transformation but for the best and fastest progress in every sector.

“Today, the country is stating they don't just want transformation but the best of it. Not just the best but fastest too, and that is why when there are unlimited aspirations in India, and efforts are also limitless,” he said.

Citing the achievements of Indian youth, PM Modi said youngsters are making remarkable contributions in startups, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and drone manufacturing, adding that India is now home to the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.

He further noted that India is currently witnessing an era of “unprecedented transformation” and highlighted that the country is running the world’s largest government-funded health insurance scheme under Ayushman Bharat.

Earlier, members of the Indian diaspora, including children, greeted Prime Minister Modi with traditional cultural performances featuring dance forms such as Lavani and Bihu.

Waving the Tricolour and chanting slogans of “Modi, Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, enthusiastic members of the community gathered in large numbers to welcome PM Modi.

Amsterdam, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Netherlands is not only one of India's important trading partners but also serves as a gateway to Europe, India's Ambassador in Amsterdam, Kumar Tuhin, said on Thursday, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country.

In an interaction with IANS, Tuhin said PM Modi and his Dutch counterpart Rob Jetten are expected to discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, technology, education, health, maritime cooperation, and the current international situation.

Here are the excerpts:

IANS: What are the key objectives of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Netherlands?

Ambassador Tuhin: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands is very important for several reasons, especially because this will be the first interaction at this level between the two leaders after the formation of the new government in the Netherlands.

We expect the leadership to review the progress made across diverse sectors, consolidate the gains achieved so far, and provide fresh strategic direction to the bilateral relationship. I also expect significant progress in areas such as new technologies, semiconductors, and sustainable energy.

IANS: Which major agreements or deals are expected to be signed during the visit?

Ambassador: When meetings take place at this level, leaders discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, technology, education, maritime cooperation, and the current international situation.

At this stage, it would be difficult for me to specify which agreements or Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) may be concluded, as that will depend on the discussions between the two leaders.

IANS: How important is the India–Netherlands partnership in areas like trade, technology, semiconductors, and clean energy?

Ambassador: The Netherlands is not only an important trading partner for India but also serves as a gateway to Europe. We expect that with the India–EU Free Trade Agreement likely coming into effect later this year, the role of the Netherlands will become even more significant.

In the energy sector as well, the Netherlands is home to many globally renowned energy companies, several of which already have strong partnerships with India.

Considering our PM Modi’s focus on Mission LiFE and the transition to clean energy, there is tremendous scope for building a mutually beneficial and synergistic partnership.

IANS: How can this visit strengthen investment opportunities between India and the Netherlands?

Ambassador: As mentioned earlier, trade and investment ties are already strong. A large number of Indian companies are present in the Netherlands, while several Dutch companies operate in India. These companies already have exposure to Indian talent, professionals, and skilled manpower.

There is significant potential not only for increased investment but also for partnerships in projects, capacity building, and stronger institutional collaboration.

IANS: What role can Dutch companies play in India’s manufacturing and green energy ambitions?

Ambassador: At the government level, the Netherlands is already partnering with India in multiple ways. The country is a member of the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). India is also a member of the Global Commission on Adaptation.

Given this strong foundation between the two governments, along with growing private-sector partnerships, we believe this relationship can lead to greater exchanges and collaborations.

This is truly a complementary partnership that the Netherlands has technological strength and expertise, while India offers scale and market size. Along with shared values, these complementary strengths create enormous potential.

IANS: How significant is the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties between India and the Netherlands?

Ambassador: The Netherlands is home to one of the largest Indian diasporas in Europe.

The diaspora community is highly active, contributing professionally to the local economy and politics while also promoting Indian culture through festivals and cultural activities.

At the same time, they help bring Dutch expertise and cultural elements to India. They truly act as a living bridge between the two countries.

I feel privileged to be posted here, as it gives me the opportunity to interact with such a vibrant, dynamic, and diverse Indian diaspora.

IANS: Will the visit include discussions on education, innovation, and student exchange programmes?

Ambassador: As mentioned earlier, when leaders meet at this level, no subject is excluded. These areas will certainly be discussed.

Excellent work has already taken place in education and academic collaboration. Last year, for example, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between six IITs in India and the University of Twente and TU Eindhoven.

Similarly, important collaboration is underway with the University of Groningen. I believe this visit will help take cooperation in education, innovation, and student exchanges to new heights.

IANS: What work has been done between India and the Netherlands in the health sector?

Ambassador: As mentioned earlier, health is one of the important sectors in our bilateral partnership, alongside water and agriculture.

Last year, two MoUs were signed in the pharmaceutical sector. In addition, cooperation in healthcare is ongoing through Joint Working Group meetings, with several more meetings planned soon after the visit.

The Netherlands is home to advanced healthcare technologies, while India has a vibrant and innovative healthcare ecosystem. This creates an excellent opportunity for collaboration, especially in healthcare innovation, pharmaceutical partnerships, and professional exchanges between doctors and researchers.

I believe that after this visit, cooperation in the health sector will grow significantly.

IANS: Are there discussions with the Netherlands on energy cooperation amid West Asia tensions?

Ambassador: Like India, the Netherlands is also an energy-importing country. Therefore, the impact of the current situation in West Asia affects them as well.

There will certainly be discussions on this issue. However, I would not like to prejudge the specific details of what the leaders will discuss.

The broader global situation, including developments in the Gulf region and energy security concerns, will naturally form part of the discussions.

Amaravati, May 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Andhra Pradesh government has come to the rescue of a woman from the state stranded in Oman.

Dudekula Shehnaz, a native of Vayalapadu village in Annmayya district, was held in confinement by her employer.

Following intervention by the state government and Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), she is now expected to return home on May 7.

According to an official release on Monday, the woman was held in confinement, and the agent's office demanded Rs 2 lakh to cover expenses.

Shahnaz had travelled to Muscat last November in search of a job. Dissatisfied with the work, she wished to return home but was not allowed to leave.

Her family members had expressed deep concern after her phone was confiscated. Her husband, Abubaker, had lodged a complaint with the APNRTS.

The state government and the APNRTS responded immediately. A letter was sent to the Indian embassy in Muscat.

"Police intervened to facilitate negotiations with the agent, who agreed to bear the costs and send Shahnaz back to Andhra Pradesh," the release said.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the state government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of migrant workers. He commended the APNRTS.

Earlier, the office of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan stated on Sunday that he responded to a woman in distress.

The Deputy Chief Minister's office contacted the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the diplomatic mission.

Shehnaz, who had gone to Muscat to work for her family's sustenance, was unable to bear the harassment in her workplace and sent a video message to Pawan Kalyan via social media.

The video she sent, showing her weeping and saying, "Pawan Kalyan anna, save me," deeply moved the Deputy Chief Minister. Hearing her words that they were beating her, not even giving food or water, and that her life was in danger, Pawan Kalyan was profoundly affected. He immediately instructed his office staff to take the necessary actions to bring her back to the homeland without delay. In accordance with the Deputy Chief Minister's orders, the office staff initiated efforts to rescue Shehnaz.

They spoke with the agent in Oman through her husband. They also contacted the diplomatic mission and officials from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Canberra, April 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Australia in July as part of a broader regional tour that will also take him to Indonesia and New Zealand, the local media reported on Friday citing government and diplomatic sources.

The Australia Today reported that PM Modi will travel to Indonesia first, before heading to New Zealand on July 7 and 8 and then expected to arrive in Australia for a two-day visit on July 9 and 10, marking his return to the country amid deepening strategic, economic and diaspora ties between the two nations.

"The visit is expected to include engagements in both Sydney and Melbourne. The Australia Today understands that PM Anthony Albanese’s office is keen to host Modi for official engagements in Sydney, reinforcing the diplomatic and strategic partnership between Canberra and New Delhi," the online news portal reported.

"However, the major public-facing event with the Indian diaspora is most likely to take place in Melbourne, which has emerged as the preferred host city for a large-scale community gathering. According to sources, Australian and Indian officials have already conducted preliminary inspections of two Melbourne venues with capacities of around 14,000 and more than 35,000, respectively," it added.

It mentioned that both venues were shortlisted due to their indoor infrastructure and roof coverage, making them suitable for Melbourne’s winter conditions in July.

"The visit is also triggering competition among key business and community organisations seeking to host high-level engagements with the Indian Prime Minister. The Australia India Business Council, which is marking its 40th anniversary this year, is understood to be working to secure a special event with Modi. At the same time, the Australia-India CEO Forum is also in contention to host a similar high-profile gathering. Sources indicate that only one organisation is likely to be selected to host an official event, with discussions ongoing behind the scenes," The Australia Today report mentioned.

PM Modi visited Sydney in May 2023 at the invitation of his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese to participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit,

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Albanese, interacted with Australian CEOs and business leaders, and addressed the Indian diaspora at a community event in Sydney.

The visit, coming just two months after the State Visit of Albanese to India in March 2023, resulted in several significant outcomes, including signing/exchange of Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement (MMPA) and Terms of Reference of Taskforce on Green Hydrogen, announcement to open a new Consulate General of India in Brisbane and opening of Australian Consulate General in Bengaluru.

"Expectations growing Indian PM Narendra Modi will visit Australia in July as part of a broader regional tour. If the visit is locked in then it will have been a pretty decent line-up of visitors to Australia over just four months: Carney, von der Leyen, Takaichi, Modi," Stephen Dziedzic, the Foreign Affairs reporter for national public broadcaster Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), posted on X on Friday.
