Kyiv, June 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that there is not enough anti-ballistic missile production in the US.

"There is not enough anti-ballistic missile production in the United States, and this could lead to a crisis in different parts of the world. Russia is ramping up its internal production of ballistic missiles," Zelensky wrote on Sunday on social media platform X.

He mentioned that he also sent a letter to the White House and to the US Congress.

"As many as 60–65 anti-ballistic missiles per month, compared to current challenges, is nothing. It is no secret, and Russia knows this. We need to expand the production. I asked the previous US administration, and I am asking today's administration to give Ukraine licenses to produce Patriot missiles," Zelensky added.

"We can increase the production of Patriot missiles. This will help us. This will help the Middle East and any other country that the United States decides to help. Until we produce a European anti-ballistic system, we will need support from the United States," the Ukrainian President highlighted, sharing his conversation from an interview.

He said that Ukraine is trying to intercept all Russian drones, even when some of them are going in the direction of other countries, like Romania, Moldova, Poland, or the Baltic states.

"I think that we need to find a diplomatic way – to sit down and talk – before next winter. But this depends on internal pressure on Putin from his society as well as American and European sanctions pressure on Russia," Zelensky noted, saying that Russia started to lose the initiative on the battlefield in December 2025.

He also raised questions about who would represent Europe in the negotiations.

"There is an E3 format – the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. I don't know if this is the best format, but I think these countries could be negotiators from Europe. We also have reliable Nordic partners. Turkey always wanted to be a mediator, and we had some successes in bringing back our POWs (prisoners of war) with their help," he added.

Jerusalem, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday said it had captured Beaufort Castle after entering the Beaufort Ridge and Wadi al-Saluki areas in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the operation is focused on establishing operational control over the Beaufort Ridge and the Wadi al-Saluki area, as well as degrading Hezbollah's capabilities in the region.

"Last night, our heroic fighters captured the Beaufort Castle. They proudly raised the flag of the State of Israel and the flag of the Golani Brigade there," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

"I remind you that 44 years ago, this place was a symbol of a heroic battle by our fighters, but it was also a symbol of deep division among us. Today, we returned to Beaufort differently. We returned united, determined and stronger than ever," he added.

According to the IDF, Hezbollah directed military and combat activities from the Beaufort Ridge and carried out numerous attacks from the area.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also said he had instructed the IDF to expand its incursion into Lebanon.

"Our forces have crossed the Litani River. They took dominant terrain. They captured the Beaufort Ridge. And now my instruction is to deepen and expand our hold on places that were under Hezbollah's control," Netanyahu said.

He also described the capture of Beaufort as a dramatic stage and a significant shift in the policy being pursued by his government.

"We have broken the barrier of fear. We are taking the initiative, we are operating on all fronts -- in Syria, in Gaza, in Lebanon; we have established security zones beyond our borders to protect our communities," he added.

"I am with you. The entire nation of Israel is with you. It will take more time, but we will restore security to the residents of the North, just as we did for the residents of the South," he told brigade commanders on Friday.

Singapore, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) South Korea has discussed a Japan-proposed bilateral military logistics support pact with Tokyo, although Seoul maintained its reservations over the matter, Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back said on Sunday.

Ahn made the remarks to the press at a defence forum in Singapore, a day after he had bilateral talks with Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi.

"There were discussions regarding (a potential) Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA)," the South Korean Defence Minister told reporters at the Shangri-La Dialogue, referring to an acquisition and cross-servicing agreement.

He declined to give further details, Yonhap news agency reported.

"As this is a matter that requires understanding and persuasion from the people of both countries, we still believe that we should remain cautious," he said.

It marked the first time that a Seoul official acknowledged that an ACSA was among the agenda items discussed between the Defence authorities of the two countries.

An ACSA is a bilateral pact between the US and its allies on facilitating the sharing of logistics, supplies and services, such as food, fuel and transportation, during contingencies.

Tokyo has been seeking to sign a bilateral ACSA with Seoul between their militaries as a way to enhance bilateral military coordination and also trilaterally with the US, their mutual ally, and help provide a framework for stronger deterrence against North Korean threats and China's assertiveness.

But Seoul has been cautious about the issue largely due to concerns that it could potentially allow Japan's Self-Defence Forces to engage in operations on the Korean Peninsula, as well as in consideration of its ties with Beijing.

Thorny wartime history issues stemming from Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule of Korea are also cited as a factor behind Seoul's guarded approach to the matter.

"An ACSA is premature at this stage, and we are not reviewing the matter," a Defence Ministry official noted.

Asked about US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth's call on Saturday for a "balanced" approach to the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON), Ahn said he views it as part of the US' "positive assessment" of Seoul's readiness and capabilities required for the transition.

"As we have various responsibilities to stably manage our combined defense posture (after the OPCON transfer), I believe it was an assessment of our capabilities and our level of preparedness," he said.

During a plenary session on Saturday, Hegseth called for "finding a balance" in the OPCON transfer in ways that the roles the US military has played for decades on the Korean Peninsula are "honoured".

His remarks drew attention amid growing concerns over what appears to be differing views between Seoul and Washington over when and how the transition should proceed.

Seoul is seeking to retake the wartime OPCON from the US before the Lee Jae Myung government's five-year term ends in 2030.

But US Forces Korea Commander General Xavier Brunson has mentioned the first quarter of 2029 as a potential timeline.

The allies have yet to announce a target year for the OPCON transfer.

"My understanding is that (the Secretary) meant to call for working together to align our efforts and energy (to move it forward)," Ahn said.

Moscow, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are inspecting the impact site of a Ukrainian drone at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), local media reported on Sunday.

"IAEA experts are inspecting the damage caused by the Ukrainian drone strike on Unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhya NPP on May 30," Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Vienna, wrote on Facebook, Russia’s state-owned Tass news agency reported.

During the inspection, the team saw damage to a metal access hatch located several levels up in the building, as well as a few pieces of debris and burned optical fiber remains on the ground. The team’s observations are consistent with the impact of a drone, the IAEA wrote on social media platform X.

"During the walk down, the team was told to shelter after hearing the sound of drones nearby and gunfire to repel them. The team was still able to confirm with their measuring equipment that radiation levels at the site remain normal," the nuclear watchdog highlighted on X.

The IAEA has also requested access to the inside of the building -- noting that it is located immediately next to reactor unit 6 -- for further examination.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said the strike was a serious incident that endangered key nuclear safety principles.

Attacks on nuclear sites are unacceptable and must stop in order to prevent the very real risk of a nuclear accident that would benefit no one, Grossi added, noted the post on X.

"This afternoon, a Ukrainian combat drone struck the turbine building of Unit 6, causing a subsequent detonation. The explosion did not damage the main equipment, but it did create a hole in the turbine wall. It's noteworthy that the drone was controlled via fiber optics. This completely rules out the possibility of an accidental impact," said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev on Saturday.

According to Likhachev, this attack marks the first targeted attack on a nuclear power plant's core equipment in the history of the international community.

Singapore, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has called on America's allies in the Indo-Pacific region to increase defence spending and strengthen military preparedness to counter China's growing influence and military expansion, according to a report.

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Hegseth stressed that maintaining regional stability would require stronger deterrence, deeper security cooperation and greater contributions from US allies.

According to a report by Modern Diplomacy, Hegseth urged partner nations to move beyond discussions and focus on tangible military capabilities, saying that the region needs more resources such as ships, submarines and defence systems rather than merely holding security conferences.

He emphasised the importance of building a strong network of allies capable of deterring aggression and preserving the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.

Hegseth said the US expects its allies to raise defence spending to around 3.5 per cent of GDP, while Washington itself is investing nearly $1.5 trillion in military capabilities.

He added that a stronger collective defence posture is essential in the face of evolving security challenges across the region.

The US Defence Secretary also reiterated President Donald Trump's position that wealthy allies should take greater responsibility for their own defence costs.

He declared that the era of American defence subsidies for prosperous nations is coming to an end and stressed that allies must contribute more actively to collective security arrangements.

Highlighting the need for action over rhetoric, Hegseth suggested that the Indo-Pacific requires more military assets and operational capabilities rather than simply more dialogue.

He noted that regional partners are seeking stability and said the US must demonstrate "strength and disciplined leadership" to maintain peace and security.

Despite expressing concern over China's military buildup, Hegseth acknowledged that communication between Washington and Beijing has improved in recent months.

He pointed to increased military-to-military engagement, saying such channels are helping manage tensions even though the broader US-China relationship remains complex.

Chinese delegate Zhou Bo welcomed what he described as a more measured tone in Hegseth's remarks compared with previous years suggesting that previous diplomatic engagement had helped keep communication channels open and reduce the risk of misunderstandings between the two powers.

Hegseth also praised the contributions of several US allies, particularly Japan, for strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing military readiness alongside Washington.

On the Middle East, he said the US remains prepared to resume military strikes on Iran if diplomatic efforts fail, while maintaining that Washington has the capacity to focus simultaneously on both Asian and Middle Eastern security priorities.

Addressing questions regarding Taiwan, Hegseth avoided directly commenting on reports that the US is considering a substantial new arms package for the island.

However, he reiterated that there has been no change in US policy toward Taiwan and said that decisions regarding arms sales ultimately rest with President Trump.

On Saturday Hegseth called for finding a "balance" in the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON) to South Korea in a manner that respects the longstanding role played by US forces on the Korean Peninsula.

Hegseth made the remarks at the defence forum in Singapore amid growing concerns over what appear to be differing views between Seoul and Washington regarding the timing and framework of the transition, Yonhap news agency reported.

"I think we have to find the balance of where our military plans and the responsibilities that US uniformed members have had for decades now (are) honoured, as we phase over to wartime OPCON transfer for South Korea, which we welcome the fact that they want that," he said during a session of the Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue.

Hegseth reiterated his positive view on Seoul's strong will to retake the wartime OPCON, calling it a "breath of fresh air" that an ally wants to regain control "more quickly".

Srinagar, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Three persons were apprehended on Sunday while they were trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the Army nabbed the three persons as they tried to cross the LoC in Kashmir.

All three persons are hailing from the Sopore area of Baramulla district. They were trying to exfiltrate into PoK from the Hathlanga-Nambla axis during the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, the officials said.

The trio arrested have been identified as Adil Hussain Dar, resident of Sopore; Ishfaq Ahmad, a resident of Sopore and Jaffar Ahmad, a resident of Sopore. Of these, Dar is a suspended TA (Territorial Army)-161 personnel, said officials.

Sources said the trio was in contact with some handlers based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

All three are currently in custody and are being questioned by security agencies.

More details are awaited.

In another incident, the Army unit apprehended a PoK resident who had crossed the LoC into Kashmir in the Silikote area of the Uri sector.

The apprehended person, Zeeshan Mir, a resident of Muzaffarabad, claimed he had crossed the LoC to meet his girlfriend who lives in Tileai in the sector.

Both Mir and the girl are being questioned by security forces, the officials said, adding further details were awaited.

Jammu and Kashmir has a 740-km-long LoC situated in Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora districts of the Valley and in Poonch, Rajouri and partly in Jammu district of Jammu division.

The Army is guarding the LoC in J&K against infiltration, exfiltration, drug smuggling and drone activity initiated from across the border.

Drones are used by terrorist outfits in PoK to drop payloads of arms, ammunition, cash and drugs into the Indian side of the border. These payloads are picked up by the overground workers (OGWs) of terrorist outfits and passed on to the terrorists to sustain terrorism in the union territory.

High-tech anti-drone equipment is being used by the Army to check the menace of drones.

New Delhi, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Krishna Swaminathan reaffirmed his commitment on Sunday to ensure that the Indian Navy maintains the highest level of operational readiness and combat effectiveness for protecting the nation's security and economic interests.

He also emphasised the importance of 'JAI' – Jointness, Atmanirbharata (self-reliance), and Indigenisation.

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan took charge as the Chief of Navy Staff after taking the handover from Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, who bid farewell to the military service earlier in the day. He also laid wreaths at the National War Memorial to pay homage to those who laid down their lives on the line of duty.

Addressing the media after assuming the charge as Indian Navy Chief, Admiral Swaminathan said, "I assume command today as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff with a deep sense of humility, responsibility, pride, and gratitude. Being selected by the top leadership of the country for this job has been the highest honour and privilege of my life, and I'm extremely grateful to have this opportunity to serve the Indian Navy and the nation in this capacity."

He stated that the Indian Navy stands vigilant to protect national interests and is very actively deployed in a regional security environment that "continues to remain challenging, complex, unpredictable, and uncertain".

"It shall be my highest priority to ensure that the Indian Navy maintains the highest level of operational readiness and combat effectiveness so that it can protect the nation's security and economic interests wherever they can be," Admiral Swaminathan said.

"The Indian Navy is well set on a course of capability enhancement and modernisation. It shall be my endeavour to sustain the growth momentum of the Navy, consolidate all ongoing programs, scale up where required, and sharpen our operational capabilities through the induction of niche and emerging technologies as soon as I can," he added.

"The Indian Navy is deeply committed to Jointness, Atmanirbharata, and Indigenisation, and that will also be one of my key result areas. I'm extremely grateful to have this opportunity to work with the men and women of the Indian Navy, whom I consider the finest professionals anywhere in the world. Their welfare, well-being, professional performance, and personal growth shall be of the highest importance to me, and I shall remain invested in that very sincerely in the days to come," he said.

Expressing gratitude to Admiral Tirpathi for his "highly meritorious and illustrious service" to the nation, Admiral Swaminathan said, "He has been an extremely effective CNS, led us very successfully, and given us the benefit of his guidance and vision at every turn. On behalf of a grateful Navy, I wish him the very best as he transits to a new phase of his life."

"I will devote every single day of my life to making the Navy a better, stronger, sharper, and more impactful service so that it can serve the interests of national security, national development, and national economic prosperity to the best of its ability," the Indian Navy chief added.

New Delhi, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Outgoing Indian Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi handed over the charge to Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as he bid farewell to the military service.

Speaking to the reporters, Admiral Tripathi said, "It has been my honour and pleasure to be at the helm of India's Navy, Indian Navy, every Indian's Navy."

"Over the past few years, whenever the nation called, the Navy delivered. We saw it during Operation Sindoor, which still continues, and we are seeing it now during Operation Urja Suraksha amid the turmoil in West Asia," he added.

Admiral Tripathi expressed gratitude to the Government of India for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the Indian Navy. He also thanked his shipmates, teammates, officers, sailors, and defence civilians who, he said, "have stood with me and delivered what the country wanted".

"What we have demonstrated as a service is that we are there to protect and promote India's national maritime interests anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Today, as I hand over the baton of the Indian Navy to Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, I do it with satisfaction knowing that Admiral Swaminathan, a thorough professional and outstanding leader with proven quality and capacity, will take our Navy to greater heights," he added.

"It has been a pleasure and honour," Admiral Tripathi added.

Earlier in the day, he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block lawns in New Delhi, an occasion that symbolised the conclusion of his tenure as the Indian Navy's highest-ranking officer.

Admiral Tripathi also visited the National War Memorial, where he laid a wreath in homage to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation.

Earlier on Friday, Admiral Tripathi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the operational preparedness of the force and the prevailing security environment in the Indian Ocean Region.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Indian Navy said Admiral Tripathi provided the Prime Minister with a comprehensive overview of the force's readiness and the evolving maritime security landscape.

"Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, called on Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 29 May 26. Prior to handing over command of the Indian Navy on 31 May 26, CNS briefed the Hon'ble Prime Minister on the operational readiness of the Indian Navy and the overall security situation in the Indian Ocean Region, including the impact of emerging challenges and galloping technology in the maritime domain," it said.

"The Indian Navy, as a combat-ready, credible, cohesive and future-ready Atmanirbhar force, remains committed to safeguarding our national maritime interests -- anytime, anywhere, anyhow," the post added.

Admiral Tripathi took charge as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff on April 30, 2024. Before assuming the top naval position, he served as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and held several important operational and administrative assignments during his distinguished career.

An alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Admiral Tripathi was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. He specialised in Communication and Electronic Warfare and went on to build a career spanning multiple operational and strategic appointments.

His command assignments included leadership of INS Vinash, INS Kirch and INS Trishul. During his tenure as Commanding Officer of INS Kirch, he played a key role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations following the devastating tsunami of December 2004. His contribution earned him a letter of appreciation from the then-President of Sri Lanka.

Moscow, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Ukrainian combat drone struck the turbine hall of Unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) on Saturday afternoon, stated Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, local media reported.

"This afternoon, a Ukrainian combat drone struck the turbine building of Unit 6, causing a subsequent detonation. The explosion did not damage the main equipment, but it did create a hole in the turbine wall. It's noteworthy that the drone was controlled via fiber optics. This completely rules out the possibility of an accidental impact," Likhachev emphasised in a statement.

According to Likhachev, this attack marks the first targeted attack on a nuclear power plant's core equipment in the history of the international community, Russia’s state-owned Tass news agency reported.

"The entire international community can be 'congratulated,' so to speak – this [drone attack on the Zaporizhzhya NPP turbine hall] is the first targeted attack on the plant's core equipment, with a complete explosion and damage to the turbine building. The Ukrainian armed forces repeatedly cross not just red lines, but the boundaries of common sense. What should we expect next? Strikes directly at the turbine? The reactor hall? The reactor and its safety systems?" Likhachev noted in his statement.

According to him, the world is one step closer to an incident that will affect even those living far beyond Russia and Ukraine.

"We repeatedly draw the international community's attention to the extremely dangerous behaviour of the Ukrainian side. It seems many don't take the attacks on the nuclear power plant seriously. But today, we are one step closer to an incident that will most likely affect even those living far beyond Russia and Ukraine, who still think they are completely safe," he added.

Earlier this month, the Zaporizhzhia NPP's external radiation monitoring laboratory was attacked by Ukrainian forces with a drone.

Bhuj, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inspected security infrastructure along the India-Pakistan border in the sensitive Sir Creek and Harami Nala regions of Gujarat’s Kutch district, as the Centre intensified its focus on technology-driven border management and anti-infiltration measures.

During the visit, Shah reviewed the operational preparedness of the Border Security Force (BSF), visited border installations, and assessed surveillance arrangements in the marshy creek area near the international border.

He said that “Smart Borders” and “Zero Infiltration” remained the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's top priorities.

The Home Minister also inaugurated the BSF’s Border Outpost G-7 near Bhuj and interacted with personnel deployed in the region.

Senior officials, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, attended parts of the programme.

According to officials, Shah reviewed surveillance systems, including camera-based monitoring infrastructure, and discussed security challenges in the border sector.

His visit formed part of a broader review of border security arrangements across several frontier states.

In recent days, Shah has visited border areas in Rajasthan and announced plans for a “Smart Border Project” to strengthen security along India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh through advanced technologies such as drones, radars, and modern surveillance systems.

Addressing BSF personnel during the Gujarat visit, Shah said the government was moving towards a more technology-oriented security framework.

He noted that infrastructure strengthening work in the Sir Creek and Harami Nala sector was progressing and said significant improvements had been made since vulnerabilities in the region were identified during earlier security reviews.

The Sir Creek and Harami Nala areas are among the most strategically sensitive stretches of India’s western border.

The terrain consists of shallow creeks, marshland, and tidal channels, which are difficult to monitor and have long posed challenges for security agencies due to the risk of infiltration, smuggling, and unauthorised maritime movement.

Canberra, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bangladesh’s foreign policy has long been guided by the principle of “friendship towards all, malice towards none", yet a commitment of up to USD 720 million to a Sino-Pakistani aviation system, amid economic fragility and geopolitical realignment, severely tests that doctrine.

It also raises questions about the quality of the national conversation, given that a decision of this magnitude, with long-term implications for Bangladesh’s strategic posture, fiscal space, and geopolitical relationships, requires rigorous parliamentary scrutiny, independent economic analysis, and open public debate, a report has highlighted.

“In May 2026, a Pakistan Air Force C-130J landed quietly in Dhaka carrying a single heavy crate. Inside was a full-scale JF-17 Thunder Block III combat simulator — the first piece of Pakistani military aviation hardware to enter Bangladesh since 1971. The simulator, delivered during the first formal Air Staff Talks between the two air forces, is being framed as a training tool ahead of a potential procurement of 16 to 48 JF-17 Block III multirole fighters, estimated at between USD 400 and 720 million," a report in the Australian Institute of International Affairs detailed.

According to the report, policymakers and defence commentators have largely focused on the operational considerations, noting that "the Bangladesh Air Force’s fleet is ageing; its F-7BGs and MiG-29s are approaching end of life; and the Forces Goal 2030 modernisation plan demands credible air power."

Stressing that the operational logic is limited in its scope, it said that the move overlooks the political alignments implied by such procurement, the long-term fiscal burdens it would entail, and the strategic consequences of tying Bangladesh’s defence future to a Sino-Pakistani supply chain at a time of severe economic vulnerabilities.

“A fighter jet is never merely a weapons platform. It is a political instrument, an economic commitment, and, over the long arc of defence dependency projects, a statement of alignment that outlasts governments. Bangladesh is not simply buying an aircraft. It may be buying into a strategic orbit from which exit will be difficult, expensive, and diplomatically consequential,” the report noted.

Highlighting the wider implications, the report said, “The JF-17 is a Sino-Pakistani product: conceived to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on Western suppliers and jointly manufactured by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corporation. Its sale to Bangladesh is therefore not a bilateral transaction between Dhaka and Islamabad; in structural terms, it is a trilateral one, with Beijing as the quiet principal.”

Singapore, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Pillar-II signature project was announced by Australia, United Kingdom and the US (AUKUS) trilateral security partnership in Singapore on Saturday,

Australia’s Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey made the joint announcement at the US Embassy in Singapore, where they reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the AUKUS partnership.

The first 'AUKUS Pillar II Signature Project: developing cutting-edge payloads and enabling systems for AUKUS partners’ Uncrewed Undersea Vehicles (UUVs)' will see deliveries starting in 2027.

“This project is intended to significantly enhance AUKUS partners’ ability to protect critical national seabed infrastructure; deploy cutting-edge surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike capabilities; conduct logistics operations; and bolster superiority in anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, mine countermeasures, electronic warfare, and contested littoral manoeuvre,” read the joint statement.

It also mentioned that the Pillar I, to support Australia’s acquisition of Conventionally-Armed, Nuclear-Powered Submarines, also remains on track.

The statement confirmed that key milestones continue to be met for Submarine Rotational Force-West (SRF-West) with the ministers announcing the finalisation of necessary arrangements for the establishment of SRF-West in 2027.

They also welcomed the proposed approach to streamline Australia’s acquisition of Virginia-class submarines (VCS) and acknowledged significant progress in the design and delivery of SSN-AUKUS, which will provide the UK and Australia with an advanced warfighting capability.

The three countries also confirmed their support for expanding the breadth of the AUKUS licence-free environment between AUKUS partners by taking expeditious and practical steps to narrow the list of excluded technologies.

“The signature project will reinforce our collective deterrence efforts and superiority in the maritime domain through the accelerated delivery of advanced capabilities to our warfighters,” the statement noted.

“The undersea environment is vital to the security and prosperity of AUKUS nations, supporting global trade, national defence, and international security,” it added

Singapore, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) South Korea and Japan will resume their joint maritime search and rescue exercises (SAREX) starting early next month, Seoul's defence chief said Saturday, calling it a "symbolic" move that reflects improving bilateral relations.

South Korea’s Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back unveiled the plan in bilateral talks with Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, held on the margins of the Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, Yonhap news agency reported.

"The SAREX drills will take place on June 7," he said in the opening remarks. "I believe the resumption of the drills after nine years carries a highly symbolic and declaratory meaning."

The drills will be conducted jointly with Japan's Maritime Self-Defence Force in international waters southeast of Jeju Island, South Korea's Navy said in a separate release.

The exercise will involve its 4,900-tonne ROKS Cheon Ja Bong landing ship, Japan's 7,250-tonne Aegis-equipped Kongo destroyer and a Japanese maritime patrol helicopter, it added.

Launched in 1999, the biennial SAREX exercise was designed to train procedures for coordinated responses between naval ships from both countries in the event of maritime incidents in waters near the Korean Peninsula.

But the drills have been suspended since the 10th round in 2017, as bilateral ties soured following a dispute over a Japanese maritime patrol aircraft making an unusually low-altitude flyby over a South Korean warship in December 2018.

Seoul had decried the plane's approach as a "menacing" flight, while Tokyo accused the South Korean vessel of having locked its fire-control radar on the plane.

The two countries agreed to prevent a recurrence of such a spat during defence ministers' talks in June 2024 under the previous Yoon Suk Yeol government amid a dramatic warming of bilateral relations.

Ahn and Koizumi agreed to restart the drills when they met in Tokyo in January.

Ahead of their talks in Singapore, Ahn described the expanding exchanges at the defence ministerial level as "ping-pong diplomacy," calling the development yet another milestone in their bilateral ties.

Koizumi, in turn, underscored that such meetings are not taking place just out of goodwill or friendship, but "necessity" given the current security challenges shared by both countries.

"To promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, it is important for Japan and South Korea to take a leading role, including through the US-Japan alliance, the US-ROK (Republic of Korea) alliance, and broader strategic cooperation to maintain and strengthen deterrence and response capabilities," he said through an interpreter.

During Saturday's talks, the ministers concurred on the importance of their countries' bilateral cooperation and trilateral partnership involving the United States, their mutual ally, to ensure peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's defence ministry said in a release.

The two sides also agreed to maintain close communication to further advance defence exchanges and cooperation in a stable, forward-looking manner by deepening mutual understanding and trust, the ministry added.

At the invitation of Ahn, the two countries are working to arrange a visit by Koizumi to South Korea in late June, a Seoul official said.

Singapore, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Highlighting India's expanding expertise in missile manufacturing and increasing outreach, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh on Saturday announced that a BrahMos missile deal has already been signed with Vietnam with another similar agreement with Indonesia currently in the final stages.

"My understanding is that with both Indonesia and with Vietnam, the deal is in the final stages. In fact, for Vietnam, I understand that it has already been signed, probably not publicly announced, but it's already been signed. Obviously, you are in the category of friendly foreign countries with whom we would be happy to share this kind of advanced technology," Singh said while responding to a question from a Vietnamese delegate during a media event held on the sidelines of the Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore.

With the Philippines being the first buyer of supersonic cruise missiles jointly produced by India and Russia, Defence Secretary Singh asserted that India has a strong commitment to the ASEAN nations.

"We treat you all as friendly foreign countries with whom we can share advanced defence technology," he told the gathering in Singapore.

The Philippines received the first batch of the BrahMos missiles in 2024, becoming India's first customer of the missile, while India delivered the second batch of the missiles in April 2025.

Earlier this month, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh travelled to Hanoi, holding extensive discussions with his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phan Van Giang, on the expanding defence partnership between both nations and discussing ways to deepen cooperation in maritime security, defence industry, training, and regional stability.

Singh's visit marked 10 years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, which was upgraded to Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the State visit of Vietnamese President To Lam earlier this month.

During his visit, he also called on the Vietnamese President and reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening cooperation under the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

"India and Vietnam share a strong bond rooted in mutual trust, shared values and close cooperation in defence, security and regional stability," the Defence Minister wrote in a post on X after the meeting.

With Defence Minister Singh voicing confidence that India's defence exports will reach 50,000 crore rupees by 2030, defence experts reckon that, as defence market expands, New Delhi seeks to widen its influence in regions that align with its geopolitical and strategic interests, with the Global South becoming an increasingly important part of its strategic outlook.

Singapore, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi pitched for the possible export of Japan’s advanced Mogami-class frigate to New Zealand on Saturday. Koizumi made the proposal during the first trilateral meeting with his New Zealand and Australian counterparts, Chris Penk and Richard Marles on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue regional security forum in Singapore, Japanese media reported.

During the meeting, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to closer defence cooperation following the recent easing of Tokyo's rules governing defence equipment exports, Japan’s leading Kyodo news agency reported.

"We'll move forward with discussions on a defence equipment transfer agreement with New Zealand," Koinumi said to reporters after the meeting, referring to a deal that would enable Japan to export frigates to New Zealand.

"I told them that if New Zealand were to select our vessel, it would not only deepen defence cooperation between Japan and New Zealand but could also improve interoperability and operational compatibility among the three countries," Koizumi noted.

In April, Japan and Australia said that they had signed the contracts to jointly deliver three of the 11 ships for the Australian Navy. These ships are based on the upgraded Mogami-class frigate of Japan.

According to Marles, these vessels will be built in Japan and delivered to Australia in December 2029.

"I am very pleased that we are able to begin trilateral discussions at such an early stage, especially as New Zealand has shown interest in the Mogami-class frigate," Koizumi told his Penk and Marles.

Penk said, "Anything that New Zealand can do to work alongside these nations, we will firmly take that opportunity," adding that the cooperation among the three nations is "crucial for the future of this region."

New Zealand is also considering Britain's Type 31 frigate for its purchase, and a decision on its selection might be made by the end of 2027.

According to Japanese officials, all three countries using similar vessels would improve interoperability and strengthen security cooperation.

"The purpose of Japan's defence equipment transfers is to strengthen deterrence in the Indo-Pacific and prevent new conflicts from breaking out," Koizumi said.

Shillong, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The maiden edition of the multilateral military exercise PRAGATI 2026 concluded successfully on Saturday at the Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya with a comprehensive 72-hour validation exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability, mutual trust, and collective preparedness among participating nations, officials said.

The exercise brought together more than 400 military personnel from 13 countries, India, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, under the banner of Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region (PRAGATI).

Officials said the closing ceremony was attended by six Vice Chiefs and over 40 senior military officials from participating nations.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, hosted the visiting dignitaries and held bilateral interactions to further strengthen defence cooperation and military-to-military ties among regional partners.

Conducted in semi-mountainous and jungle terrain, the exercise focused on counter-terrorism operations and included intensive training sessions through lectures, demonstrations, and practical drills.

Troops from participating countries trained together in mixed teams and carried out activities such as rock craft, ambush and counter-ambush drills, slithering, jungle lane shooting, room and bus intervention exercises, improvised explosive device (IED) detection, and casualty evacuation operations.

Army officials said one of the key highlights of the exercise was the camaraderie and soldierly bonding displayed by participants as they operated together under challenging conditions, helping foster mutual understanding, trust, and professional cooperation.

As part of the event, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Army Design Bureau, also organised a defence equipment exhibition showcasing indigenous defence technologies and next-generation military systems.

The exhibition highlighted India’s growing capabilities in defence design, development, and manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative while promoting collaboration and exports in the defence sector.

Officials said Exercise PRAGATI 2026 significantly enhanced interoperability and strengthened partnerships among participating countries, while laying a strong foundation for future editions of the multinational exercise aimed at ensuring peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

Singapore, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Saturday called for finding a "balance" in the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON) to South Korea in a way that respects the roles the US military has played for decades.

Hegseth made the remarks at a defence forum in Singapore amid growing concerns over what appear to be differing views between Seoul and Washington over when and how the transition should proceed, Yonhap news agency reported.

"I think we have to find the balance of where our military plans and the responsibilities that US uniformed members have had for decades now (are) honoured, as we phase over to wartime OPCON transfer for the Republic of Korea, which we welcome the fact that they want that," he said during a session of the Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue.

Seoul has proposed retaking wartime OPCON from Washington as early as 2028 as it seeks to complete the transfer before the Lee Jae Myung administration's five-year term ends in 2030.

However, doubts have emerged over whether Washington sees eye to eye with Seoul on such a timeline after US Forces Korea Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson suggested the two sides aim to meet the conditions required for the OPCON transfer by no later than the first quarter of 2029.

South Korea handed over operational control of its troops to the US-led UN Command during the 1950-53 Korean War. It was then transferred to the allies' Combined Forces Command when the command was launched in 1978.

Brunson, who was also taking part in the regional forum in Singapore, stressed the importance of ensuring proper military capabilities and readiness for the OPCON transition.

"The position that we have within the (Korean) peninsula ... is important," the USFK chief said.

"But what's also important (is) that we have the right capabilities, the right place and the right time," he added, while also stressing the importance of taking those elements into "actual perspective."

Hegseth reiterated his positive view on Seoul's strong will to retake the wartime OPCON, calling it a "breath of fresh air" that an ally wants to regain control "more quickly."

"It is an instinct we want to continue to incentivise," he said. "I think it provides even more optionality for both the Koreans and the United States there on the (Korean) peninsula going forward, which is a very good thing."

Regarding South Korea's push for a nuclear-powered submarine program, Hegseth reaffirmed U.S. support for allies wanting to expand their own undersea warfare capacity, which he said would enhance deterrence and regional stability.

"Allies and partners seeking similar capabilities in their own defence and in regional stability makes a lot of sense to us," he said.

Bhuj, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday directed authorities in Gujarat's border districts to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards unauthorised encroachments, strengthen action against illegal infiltration and financial crime networks, and closely monitor demographic changes, which he described as the most serious challenge facing border regions.

Shah was chairing a high-level security review meeting in Bhuj on issues concerning Gujarat's border and coastal districts along the India-Pakistan Border.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Das, and Director General of Police K.L.N. Rao, as well as other senior government officials and the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of Kutch, Vav-Tharad, and Patan.

The review focused on challenges, threats, and emerging concerns in border areas and examined the role of the state government, particularly district administrations and police authorities, in strengthening border management.

Addressing the meeting, Shah said, "Border fencing, maritime border security and the strong political will of the state government have brought about a significant transformation in Gujarat's security landscape," adding that these measures had resulted in "the complete cessation of infiltration in the state and smuggling on the border".

He directed officials to remove all unauthorised encroachments within the 0-15 kilometre belt along the international border and said a "zero-tolerance approach" should be adopted towards such activities.

Shah also instructed authorities to maintain a close watch on centres of radicalisation operating in border regions.

Highlighting concerns over demographic shifts, the Home Minister said, "Demographic changes in border districts pose the most serious challenge," and asked District Magistrates to ensure strict monitoring and regular reporting of such developments.

At the same time, he described the reverse migration being witnessed in some border areas due to the establishment of industrial units as "a welcome development".

Shah said all levels of the administration must work together to identify and remove illegal infiltrators already settled in the region.

"Everyone, from police station to patwari, should work in unison to ensure deportation of already settled illegal infiltrators," he said.

He also directed local administrations to prepare district-specific standard operating procedures to address unique local challenges.

These SOPs, he said, should focus on identifying existing infiltrators and dealing with emerging threats linked to drones and narcotics trafficking.

Calling for greater inter-agency coordination, Shah instructed authorities to establish Security Coordination Groups in every district.

These groups will include representatives from the Border Security Force, the Indian Coast Guard, the Income Tax Department, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Lead Bank Manager.

The Home Minister emphasised the need for stringent monitoring of hawala transactions, suspicious financial dealings, mule bank accounts, shell companies, suspicious vehicle movements, and GST-related activities in border districts.

"Strict vigil must be maintained in border districts for hawala transactions, financial dealings, mule accounts, shell companies, suspicious vehicles and GST collections," he said.

He further directed that agencies dealing with financial crimes should be kept fully informed about developments in border areas and said the Income Tax Department, in coordination with the Reserve Bank of India, should undertake extensive survey campaigns.

Shah said responsibility for the effective enforcement of laws relating to Income Tax, anti-money laundering, and Customs should rest with the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and Inspector General of the Border Range.

Referring to Gujarat's long coastline and proximity to the International Maritime Boundary Line with Pakistan, Shah stressed that coastal security must remain a priority and called for effective coordination with the Indian Coast Guard.

He also instructed officials to ensure that every border village receives the full benefits of both the Central and State Government welfare programmes.

Alongside the implementation of the 'Vibrant Villages' initiative, he said, authorities should ensure "100 per cent saturation of every scheme" in border villages.

The meeting formed part of the Centre's efforts to strengthen comprehensive border management and address evolving security, demographic, financial, and maritime challenges along India's western frontier.

Lucknow, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that Uttar Pradesh has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past few years, asserting that a state once associated with law-and-order concerns and the influence of mafia networks has now emerged as a model of development, investment and effective governance.

The Defence Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the ‘Nausena Shaurya Vatika’ (Naval Gallantry Park) in Lucknow. The project, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 19 crore, was inaugurated in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chief of the Naval Staff Dinesh K. Tripathi.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Rajnath Singh highlighted the changing image of Uttar Pradesh and credited the state government for creating an environment that encourages economic growth and investment.

“Uttar Pradesh was once sarcastically characterised as a state of ‘One District, One Mafia’. Investors used to hesitate to come here, and serious questions were frequently raised regarding the law-and-order situation. However, over the last few years, the situation has undergone a complete transformation. Today, through initiatives such as the ‘One District, One Product’ scheme, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a new hub for economic growth and job creation,” he said.

The Defence Minister also praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for what he described as decisive efforts to improve law and order and curb organised crime in the state.

“The firmness with which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has managed law and order -- taking effective action against crime and the mafia network -- has fostered a new environment conducive to investment and development within the state. This is precisely why Uttar Pradesh is today becoming a focal point of attraction for investors across both the nation and the globe,” Singh said.

Referring to the newly inaugurated Naval Gallantry Park, the Defence Minister said the facility should not be viewed merely as a recreational space or tourist destination but as a tribute to India’s military legacy and spirit of patriotism.

“The Naval Gallantry Park is not merely a tourist attraction or a recreational park, but a living symbol of national consciousness, military heritage and patriotism,” he said.

He added that the military platforms and equipment displayed at the park would help visitors understand the sacrifices and commitment of India’s Armed Forces.

“The warships, weaponry and naval equipment displayed here are authentic artefacts, each narrating a story of the valour and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces,” Singh said.

According to the Defence Minister, the park will play an important role in inspiring young people and nurturing a sense of responsibility towards the nation.

“This site will serve to inspire future generations towards national service and a profound sense of duty,” he added.

Rajnath Singh also commended the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government for completing the ambitious project within a short period and said the park holds special significance because of the historical and cultural connections between the state and the Indian Navy.

“The establishment of the Naval Gallantry Park in Lucknow is not merely a coincidence; rather, it is deeply intertwined with the state’s rich history, geography and cultural heritage,” he said.

Drawing attention to INS Gomti, a warship named after the Gomti River, the Defence Minister said the park symbolises the longstanding emotional and historical ties between Uttar Pradesh and the Indian Navy.

Referring to the connection, Singh said the garden would stand as “a symbol of the emotional and historical bond” shared by the state and the naval force.

He also urged citizens to visit the park with their families and children to learn more about the Indian Navy and its contribution to national security.

Rajnath Singh said that understanding the traditions and sacrifices of the Armed Forces would help strengthen patriotic values among younger generations.

“A naval uniform is not merely a garment, but a symbol of dedication, discipline and duty towards the nation. This garden will serve as a medium to connect the youth with that very spirit,” he added.

Appealing to people to express gratitude to the Indian armed forces, Singh said, “The people, because of whom our lives are safe, their contribution is immense. Our new generation will feel grateful to them. This is what I believe. This gratitude is very necessary.”

Pune, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday emphasised the increasing significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in contemporary warfare, stating that emerging technologies are becoming indispensable for faster decision-making and effective management of the growing complexity of military operations.

Addressing reporters after reviewing the Passing Out Parade of the 150th Course at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, General Dwivedi said modern battlefields generate enormous volumes of information and involve a wide range of resources, making AI-driven systems an essential component of future military preparedness.

The Army Chief explained that the pace of present-day warfare requires commanders and troops to process information rapidly and make timely decisions in highly dynamic situations.

“Artificial Intelligence. We look into why it is required. When you have resources which are beyond your control, you can't manage them all in one go. Secondly, there is an OODA cycle -- Observe, Orient, Decide and Act. When you are superimposed with more than one cycle, how do you act? Therefore, when the velocity of warfare is very high, you need additional support within your resources to make decisions faster. In this particular case, we have the SLMs and LLMs,” General Dwivedi said.

He noted that AI-based technologies, including Small Language Models (SLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs), are increasingly helping military organisations process information efficiently, optimise resources and improve operational effectiveness in complex environments.

According to him, the ability to make faster and better-informed decisions has become a decisive factor in modern conflicts, where battlefield situations evolve rapidly and often require simultaneous responses across multiple domains.

He said that the two languages help make the decision-making process fast, and said, “Rationalisation of resources and application of resources, all of this becomes much faster in today's world.”

General Dwivedi further highlighted the growing role of drones in military operations and pointed out that armed forces must develop both offensive and defensive capabilities to deal with emerging aerial threats.

“In today's environment, we also have numerous drones coming. Now, you need counter-drone equipment, and you need to apply your own drones. Therefore, the resources present on the battlefield are enormous,” he said.

He observed that the increasing deployment of drones, surveillance platforms, sensors and other technological assets has significantly expanded the scale of battlefield resources that commanders must manage in real time.

He said handling such a vast and complex ecosystem requires a high degree of automation, making AI a critical enabler for future military operations.

“To handle such resources, you need some kind of automation, and AI plays a very pivotal role,” General Dwivedi added.

Shimla, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A coordinated firefighting operation involving the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, and the Himachal Pradesh administration has successfully brought the devastating forest fire in Kasauli under control after an extensive day-and-night effort spanning several hours.

The region had been grappling with an intense forest fire for the past several days, raising concerns over the safety of nearby habitations, military establishments, and critical infrastructure.

To combat the blaze, the Indian Air Force deployed Mi-17 V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets, while ground teams from the Indian Army and the state administration supported the operation.

The helicopters carried out repeated sorties, drawing water from Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh and dropping it over the fire-affected areas.

According to officials, a total of 93,000 litres of water was released during the operation as part of a sustained effort to contain and extinguish the flames spreading across the hilly terrain.

In a post on X, the Ministry of Defence highlighted the joint effort undertaken by the armed forces and civil authorities.

“Indian Air Force, with active assistance from the Army and the State administration, played a major role in extinguishing the Kasauli forest fire. Mi-17 V5 helicopters using Bambi Buckets were pressed into action on May 26, 2026, to airdrop water over areas affected by fire. The operation was carried out by day and, in a first, by night using NVGs,” the Ministry said.

"Despite inherent risks from fire, challenging terrain, smoke and night operations, firefighting continued until the fire was brought under control, saving lives and infrastructure on the ground. A total of 93,000 litres of water was poured through multiple sorties by Mi-17 V5 helicopters carrying 2,000 to 2,500 litres per trip from Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh," it added.

The operation marked a significant milestone as night firefighting missions were conducted using Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), enabling crews to continue water-dropping operations even after sunset.

This capability proved crucial in preventing the blaze from spreading further and threatening sensitive locations.

The Ministry of Defence also shared cockpit footage captured through night-vision equipment, showing large flames visible from the air and helicopters carrying out water drops over smoke-covered hills.

The forest fire, which erupted on the western slopes of Kasauli on May 26, posed a serious threat to the historic and strategically important areas of the Kasauli Cantonment as well as the Air Force Station in Kasauli.

Officials said the blaze was first reported at around 2:50 p.m. on May 26, near the Jangesu Panchayat area. Fanned by strong winds, the fire spread rapidly across the forested landscape, creating a challenging situation for firefighting teams.

In response, a large-scale and sustained firefighting effort was launched involving units of the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, the Kasauli Cantonment Board and civil fire services.

Pune, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Army chief, General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that 'Operation Sindoor' remains ongoing and that all three services of the Indian Armed Forces are maintaining a high level of preparedness for any future contingency, including what he described as 'Operation Sindoor 2.0', if the situation demands.

Addressing a press conference after the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, General Dwivedi said that while hostilities have currently ceased, the Armed Forces continue to remain vigilant and prepared.

“Operation Sindoor is still continuing. There is a temporary cessation of hostilities. Therefore, the Indian Army, along with all three services, is preparing well for 'Operation Sindoor 2.0', if it takes place. Presently, we are focussed on enhancing synergy among the three services. We are also equipping ourselves for the next generation of warfare,” he said.

The Army Chief emphasised that the nature of warfare is evolving rapidly and future conflicts will extend far beyond the traditional domains of land, sea and air.

“The future warfare will not be limited to land, maritime and air domains alone. The new domains -- space, cyber and cognitive warfare -- will play a very important role,” General Dwivedi said.

He noted that technological advancements have transformed battlefields into highly transparent environments where activities and troop movements are increasingly visible to adversaries in real time.

“What we have observed over time is that the battlefield operates 24/7 and has become highly transparent, with every movement being visible to the other side. Therefore, we have to be very cautious in terms of deployment, employment and the protection required to safeguard our troops as well as civilians living in border areas,” he said.

Speaking about the growing significance of information warfare, the Army Chief stressed that public trust and national unity are critical components of success during conflicts.

“Victory is always in the mind, not on the ground. Therefore, information warfare is only successful if the whole nation comes together and trusts the people who are providing information. If that happens, I can assure you that a nation whose people trust one another and all the stakeholders involved will always prevail in war,” he said.

General Dwivedi also referred to 'Operation Sindoor' as an example of India’s capability to respond with precision and determination when required.

“Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s resolve and the Armed Forces’ ability to deliver a calibrated, precise and purposeful response. This operation underlined the importance of integrated planning, real-time Intelligence, precision targeting, strong air defence, secure communications and synergy across domains,” he said.

The Army Chief further stated that the Indian Army is fully aware of the rapid transformation taking place in the character of warfare and is undertaking significant efforts to adapt to future operational requirements.

According to him, the force is actively transforming itself into a “future-ready force”, with technology, integration and jointness becoming increasingly important elements of military preparedness.

General Dwivedi added that the younger generation of officers and soldiers would play a pivotal role in driving this transformation and ensuring that the Armed Forces remain capable of addressing emerging security challenges across multiple domains in the years ahead.

New Delhi, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Anil Chauhan, on Saturday described his tenure as "very satisfying and excellent” as he formally bid farewell to military service after more than four decades.

The ceremonial events marked the culmination of General Chauhan’s distinguished military career spanning more than four decades.

Earlier in the day, he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block lawns in New Delhi, an occasion that symbolised the conclusion of his tenure as the country’s highest-ranking military officer.

Following the Guard of Honour, General Chauhan visited the National War Memorial, where he laid a wreath in homage to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation.

Addressing reporters after the ceremony, the outgoing CDS expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him and reflected on his long journey in uniform.

“It’s a matter of great honour for me to superannuate with a Tri-Services Guard of Honour. I thank the three services and Headquarters IDS for it. With the conclusion of the Guard of Honour, I bid farewell to my colleagues in uniform, comrades in arms forever,” General Chauhan said.

Recalling his visit to the National War Memorial, he said the moment carried deep personal significance as it marked his final tribute in uniform to the nation’s fallen heroes.

“I just laid the wreath at the War Memorial for the last time in uniform, as a humble tribute to those who laid down their lives in the line of duty,” he told reporters.

“After the wreath laying, I was welcomed by friends, relatives and well-wishers. This is symbolic of my transition from uniform to civilian life. I had a very satisfying and excellent tenure,” General Chauhan added.

The farewell ceremony marked the end of General Chauhan’s tenure as CDS and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs.

His extended tenure in the position had been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in September 2025, allowing him to continue in service until May 30, 2026.

Commissioned into the Indian Army in 1981, General Chauhan served the nation for more than 40 years and held several important command, operational and staff appointments during the course of his military career.

Over the decades, he earned a reputation as a seasoned military leader and played a key role in shaping strategic and operational policies within the Armed Forces.

His distinguished service has been recognised through several prestigious military decorations, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.

During his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, General Chauhan remained at the forefront of efforts aimed at enhancing jointness, integration and coordination among the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

He played a significant role in advancing reforms intended to strengthen inter-service cooperation and improve the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.

Pune, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that every soldier in the Indian armed forces should possess the capability to operate drones, stressing that extensive training and practical exposure to drone systems, simulators and counter-drone technologies are being provided to cadets and personnel to prepare them for future battlefields.

Replying to an IANS question during a press conference held after the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) here, General Dwivedi highlighted the growing importance of drone warfare and said the army has taken several initiatives to ensure soldiers are equipped with the necessary skills to operate such systems.

Explaining his vision, he said that soon after assuming office, he had emphasised the concept of "Eagle on the Arm", a phrase symbolising the need for every soldier to be proficient in handling drones.

“After I took over as the army chief, I said 'Eagle on the arm'. This means that every soldier should have an eagle in his hand. When I say this, I am not referring to a bird; I am talking about drones. This means that every soldier should have the capability to operate a drone," he said.

General Dwivedi noted that training infrastructure related to drone operations is being steadily strengthened across military institutions and academies.

"You may have seen that in our academies and other places, training is being conducted and simulators are available. When I came here in December, I personally spoke to the Commandant and provided the Army Training Team with around four to six large drones and simulators. After that, the Commandant took significant steps, and many more drones have been brought here," he said.

The army chief underlined that modern warfare increasingly relies on drone technology and that soldiers must be familiar not only with operating drones but also with counter-drone systems designed to neutralise aerial threats.

"It is important for every soldier to have knowledge about drones and counter-drone equipment. This is because when a soldier goes onto the battlefield, drones will be used to such an extent that controlling and responding to them will require extensive knowledge. That is why we are providing training to every cadet using live drones and simulators," he added.

General Dwivedi also spoke about the progress being made towards theatreisation of the Indian armed forces, describing the initiative as being on the "right track".

Addressing questions on the proposed restructuring of military commands, he said discussions within the Chiefs of Staff Committee had been completed, and the recommendations had already been submitted to the government.

"As far as theatreisation is concerned, it is on the right track. As of now, all discussions on theatreisation have been completed within the Chiefs of Staff Committee. The complete report has been submitted to the Defence Minister. It is currently undergoing review by various stakeholders," he said.

The Army Chief further stated that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the three Service Chiefs had carefully examined the proposal to ensure that the interests and operational requirements of all three services were adequately addressed.

"In this regard, the CDS and the three Service Chiefs, including the outgoing CNS and CDS, have taken a conscious view to ensure that the major interests of all three services are met," he said.

Explaining the proposed command structure under theatreisation, General Dwivedi said integration and synergy among the services would require adjustments from all stakeholders, but would ultimately enhance operational effectiveness.

"Whenever you find that a certain level of synergy has to be brought in, there will be some kind of give-and-take by all three services. Therefore, the Service Chiefs will be responsible for raising, training, and sustaining functions, while the theatre commanders will be responsible for operations and orchestration of forces," he said.

Expressing optimism about the future of the reform process, the army chief said the next phase under the new CDS would help advance the initiative further.

Pune, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, on Saturday said that self-reliance and innovation have become key pillars of India’s military preparedness, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of JAI -- Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation -- will continue to shape the future direction of the Indian Armed Forces.

Addressing a press conference after reviewing the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, General Dwivedi described the occasion as both a proud and emotional moment, particularly because of his long association with the institution.

“Today, 353 cadets are passing out from this great institution, including 18 women cadets. This is a proud moment for the Academy, the Armed Forces and the country,” he said.

Highlighting the increasing participation of women in the Defence forces, the Army Chief said the presence of women cadets in growing numbers reflected the changing aspirations and confidence of modern India.

“This reflects the confidence of changing India and the expanding role of women in national Defence,” he said.

General Dwivedi emphasised that the character of warfare is undergoing a significant transformation and future conflicts would no longer remain confined to traditional battlefields. According to him, military engagements of the future would unfold across multiple domains, including land, air, sea, space, cyber, electromagnetic and cognitive spheres, requiring armed forces to be prepared for a far more complex security environment.

Referring to India’s military action carried out on May 7, 2025, against terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, the Army Chief said the operation showcased the country’s resolve and operational capability.

General Dwivedi noted that the Indian Army is fully aware of the rapid evolution taking place in warfare and is actively transforming itself into a force prepared for future challenges. He said the younger generation of officers and soldiers would play a critical role in this transition.

“The Indian Army is fully conscious of the rapid changes taking place in warfare and is transforming itself into a future-ready force. In this journey, the contribution of the younger generation will be pivotal,” he said.

He further elaborated on several initiatives that form part of the Army’s ongoing modernisation drive.

“The raising of multi-drone battalions, Divyastra batteries, Shaktimaan regiments, Bhairav battalions and other technology-enabled structures from within our resources is part of this transformation. The next major step is networking and data centricity,” he stated.

The Army Chief reiterated that self-reliance and innovation remain central to strengthening India’s Defence capabilities and ensuring long-term military preparedness.

“Atmanirbharta and innovation are also central to the Army’s preparedness,” he said.

Explaining the broader approach being adopted to achieve these goals, General Dwivedi said the Army is collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the country.

“As part of a whole-of-nation approach, we are working closely with DRDO, industry, start-ups, academia and national institutions to convert indigenous ideas into battlefield capabilities. In this regard, our Prime Minister’s mantra of JAI -- Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation -- will continue to guide us,” he said.

The Army Chief also underlined that the role of the military extends beyond combat operations and battlefield responsibilities. He said the Armed Forces continue to make significant contributions to nation-building through a wide range of activities.

According to him, the military remains deeply engaged in border security, disaster relief operations, educational initiatives through Army Goodwill Schools, assistance to citizens living in remote regions, and programmes aimed at youth engagement and development.

“A strong military gives strength to the nation and a united nation gives strength to the military,” he said.

Speaking about veterans, Veer Naris, dependants and military families, General Dwivedi said, “They all remain an integral part of the Army fraternity. Their dignity, welfare and honour will always remain our sacred responsibility.”

Concluding his remarks, the Army Chief congratulated the graduating cadets of the NDA and encouraged them to uphold the traditions of service, leadership and commitment to the nation as they embark on their careers in the Armed Forces.

Pune, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday reviewed the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) at the prestigious tri-services academy in Khadakwasla, Pune, marking the commissioning of 355 cadets into the Indian Armed Forces.

The ceremonial event was held at the Khetarpal Parade Ground, where the graduating cadets showcased military precision, discipline, and professionalism during an impressive march past before moving on to join the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.

The occasion carried special significance as General Dwivedi, himself an alumnus of the NDA’s 65th Course, returned to the institution as the Reviewing Officer. During his training days at the Academy, he was a cadet of Charlie Squadron before embarking on a distinguished military journey that eventually led him to become the Chief of the Indian Army.

Addressing the cadets at the Passing Out Parade, General Dwivedi reflected on his own experience at the Academy and the lifelong impact it had on him.

“More than 42 years ago, I passed out through this very court, carrying the pride of what this Academy had made me, ready to have a rendezvous with what lay ahead. Today, as I stand before you at the far end of a life in uniform, preparing to doff mine as you prepare to don yours, I can tell you with certainty that what begins here stays with you forever,” he said.

The Army Chief also extended his greetings to the cadets from 12 friendly foreign nations who graduated alongside their Indian counterparts.

“You came from different soils, but you leave shaped by the same ground and the same values. Carry those bonds forward, as it is often such ties, formed long before rank and command, that greatly sustain peace between nations,” he said.

Speaking about the evolving nature of warfare and contemporary security challenges, General Dwivedi cautioned the young officers that they would be entering a rapidly changing strategic environment.

“Dear Officer Cadets of the Spring Term, the world you are stepping into does not ask for introductions. The boundary between competition and conflict has blurred. Threats today do not always arrive in uniform or on a declared front,” he remarked.

Referring to 'Operation Sindoor', he said the operation had demonstrated how India responds firmly and precisely to challenges.

“Today’s security environment demands that those who serve must think sharply as they act. 'Operation Sindoor' demonstrated that and set the benchmark when national will was expressed with precision and resolve, defining how Bharat responds to provocation. That standard now belongs to you to uphold,” he said.

The Army Chief noted that the integrated and responsive outcomes witnessed during 'Operation Sindoor' were rooted in the very principles that the NDA inculcates in its cadets.

He said the Academy teaches jointness not merely as a concept to be studied but as an instinct that develops through living, training, and growing together with cadets from all three services from the very beginning.

“As our Defence services deepen their integrated structures, remember, irrespective of the uniform we wear next, you will serve shoulder to shoulder again, both men and women,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of lifelong learning, General Dwivedi advised the graduating cadets never to stop acquiring knowledge and improving themselves.

“What this Academy has given you is learning that must never stop. In four decades of soldiering, the finest officers I ever came across were not those decorated earliest. They were those who remained students the longest, who walked into every assignment asking, ‘What must I learn here?’ rather than ‘What must I prove here?’ That hunger is what the uniform demands -- hungry minds,” he said.

The Army Chief also identified three key qualities that would shape the future careers of the young officers.

“Alongside that hunger, three qualities will define the kind of officer and leader you become -- attitude, adaptability and ability. Remember the sequence. Attitude is your inner anchor. It holds firm when everything else shifts. Adaptability is not about changing with the wind; it is about holding your course while absorbing turbulence. And ability goes beyond skill. It is the capacity to inspire confidence, make sound decisions and remain composed under pressure. Nurture all three with discipline, curiosity and courage,” he said.

Sharing lessons from his own years of military leadership, General Dwivedi stressed that true leadership is earned through trust and character rather than authority alone.

“As you prepare to lead soldiers, I leave you with one simple thought. Leadership, when it is real, is not announced. It is recognised quietly by the soldiers beside you. I have commanded in conditions where no plan survived first contact. What held us together in those moments was not firepower. It was character. Lead so that your soldiers choose to follow — not because they must, but because they trust you,” he said.

The Army Chief also praised the women cadets graduating from the Academy, highlighting their performance and commitment.

“As I look at this parade today, there is one more acknowledgement I wish to make with genuine pride. The female cadets passing out with their Course stood in every formation and met every standard. On this parade square today, they are indistinguishable from anyone else. That is exactly the point. In the battles ahead, courage and resolve know no gender. Battle is always gender-neutral,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the graduating cadets, General Dwivedi said they would serve the nation with distinction in their respective services.

“I am confident you will serve with distinction in the services you join. To the families present here, your sacrifice is written into every step your son or daughter took on this ground. You held the faith quietly and from a distance through every demanding term. Today belongs to you as much as to them. Be proud, as you have every reason to be,” he said.

The Army Chief also commended the instructors, staff members, and drill 'ustads' whose efforts, he said, were reflected in the exceptional standards displayed on the parade ground.

Concluding his address, General Dwivedi reminded the cadets of the enduring values upon which the Academy was built and urged them to carry those ideals throughout their military careers.

“Officer Cadets of the 150th Course, you leave this parade square not having arrived, but having begun. Carry with you the words upon which this Academy was built -- ‘Seva Parmo Dharma (Service Before Self)'. Every difficult question this profession asks of you, every moment when duty and comfort pull in different directions, those words are the answer. It is what you must carry as you begin your journey. Step forward, serve well. The nation expects nothing less,” he said.

New Delhi, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army has paid tribute to the bravery of late Colonel Sonam Wangchuk and troops of the 3 Ladakh Scouts, recalling their valour during the Battle of Chorbat La in the Batalik Sector on May 30, 1999, a key action during the Kargil War.

In a post on X, the Corps quoted Colonel (then Major) Wangchuk’s reflection on his action, saying: “What I did at Chorbat La was my duty, not something extraordinary.” The post highlighted how the officer led from the front under extreme conditions, marking a significant early success in 'Operation Vijay'.

It further added, “Major Sonam Wangchuk and the brave men of 3 Ladakh Scouts etched their names in history during the Battle of Chorbat La in Batalik Sector. Battling sub-zero temperatures, snow blizzards, enemy fire and impossible terrain, Maj Wangchuk led from the front to establish observation posts at Sonam-I and Sonam-II, eliminating the enemy and denying Pakistani troops control of the ridgeline on the Ladakh Range. India remembers with pride and gratitude.”

The Battle of Chorbat La, fought at extreme high altitude in glaciated terrain, was part of India’s broader efforts under 'Operation Vijay' to recapture strategic positions occupied by intruders during the Kargil conflict.

The Ladakh Scouts, known as the 'Snow Warriors,' played a crucial role in high-altitude warfare during the campaign, operating in some of the most inhospitable conditions along the Line of Control.

According to official records and military accounts, the Ladakh Scouts were among the first units deployed in the Batalik sub-sector after intrusions were detected in early May 1999. The unit conducted multiple assaults and reconnaissance missions to clear enemy positions along key ridgelines, often operating at elevations exceeding 18,000 feet amid heavy artillery fire and severe weather.

Major Wangchuk’s actions in this sector are widely credited with helping secure early tactical gains for India in the Batalik axis, where controlling ridgelines was critical to dominating access routes along the Line of Control.

A decorated officer of the Indian Army and one of Ladakh’s most respected military figures, Colonel Wangchuk was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for exceptional bravery during 'Operation Vijay'. Popularly known as the 'Lion of Ladakh,' he is remembered for his fearless leadership in the 1999 Kargil War, especially during the Battle of Chorbat La in the Batalik sector, where his actions became part of military history.
