New Delhi, May 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Keeping the use of banned calcium carbide in concern, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has alerted fruit traders to strictly ensure compliance with the prohibition on calcium carbide for artificial ripening of fruits, particularly during the mango season.

In a statement, the FSSAI has also advised the Food Safety Departments of States and UTs to remain vigilant and take serious action and deal stringently against people indulging in such unlawful practices as per laws.

The national food regulator has permitted the use of ethylene gas as a safer alternative for fruit ripening.

"Ethylene gas can be used at concentrations up to 100 ppm, depending upon the crop, variety and maturity. Ethylene, a naturally occurring hormone in fruits, regulates the ripening process by initiating and controlling a series of chemical and biochemical activities," said the FSSAI.

Calcium carbide releases acetylene gas which contains harmful traces of arsenic and phosphorus.

These substances can cause serious health issues such as "dizziness, frequent thirst, irritation, weakness, difficulty in swallowing, vomiting and skin ulcers".

"There are chances that calcium carbide may come in direct contact with fruits during application and leave residues of arsenic and phosphorus on fruits," the food regulator said.

It further said that if any use of Calcium Carbide or any wrong practice of using ripening agents for the artificial ripening of fruits is noticed by the consumers, "the same may be brought to the notice of concerned State Commissioners of Food Safety for taking action against such violators".

New Delhi, May 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Here is a guide to the week ahead for you. This is your forecast for May 20-26.

Aries

This week, make sure you do not sound arrogant or insensitive to others. Keep a balance between your excitement and being considerate to those around you. If you are looking for a job, this is a good week to go for interviews and networking. Your self-confidence and communication skills will be at their peak, which will be a great asset when you meet the employers. Narrow your search to areas such as media, publishing, education, travel, or any industry that involves communication and knowledge sharing. Your attention may be centred on your own development, but do not forget about your family obligations. Your relationship with your dad or elder brothers may be brought into focus. Be mindful of your words and actions.

Tip of the week: Be mindful of your words

Taurus

This week, you will be decisive and concentrated. You will have the power of will to achieve your goals. But also be aware of the danger of becoming too stubborn or inflexible. Attempt to listen to the other person's opinions with an open mind. Employed workers should expect a busy work week. You might be required to spend more time and energy on important assignments. Do not run away from your obligations. Your bosses and co-workers will certainly admire your dedication. Nevertheless, do not quarrel with coworkers over minor things. Singles might experience a desire to begin new relationships. However, avoid the temptation of short-term attractions.

Tip of the week: Listen to others

Gemini

This week will be a mixed one. Some challenges are ahead, but don't worry; you are strong enough to deal with them smartly. Concentrate on what is essential, and do not be distracted by trivial things. Your communication skills will be great, and you can use them to convince others. For those who are jobless, there is no need to lose hope. Keep trying and make sure you are well-prepared for interviews. Good times are ahead, but you need to be patient. Don’t be shy about asking for assistance from your network. Those committed should try to spend time together as much as possible and make their time meaningful. A romantic gesture can intensify your relationship. Nevertheless, try to avoid pointless quarrels about trifling matters.

Tip of the week: Don’t be distracted

Cancer

This week, you may encounter some health issues or work-related friction. Take care of your body, and do not overwork. On the positive side, you may be backed by people with influence or authority. This is the best time for job seekers to apply for government jobs or positions in large organisations. Nevertheless, be aware that the recruitment process may be lengthy. Employees may be challenged by their co-workers or bosses. Don't get into conflicts, and concentrate on your work. People in the healthcare, military, or civil service sectors could have a busy week. You may have to deal with arguments or tension with your family members, especially your mother or maternal relatives.

Tip of the week: Take care of your health

Leo

This week, you will be full of energy and will be very creative. You will be exposed to new ideas and get to show your talents. However, don't let your overconfidence or pride get the better of you. Be humble, and do not let your ego get the best of you. Other people's suggestions are also worth listening to. You will be acknowledged for your diligence and creativity this week. Some of you may get promoted or receive a pay raise. Those working in the creative or entertainment industry will be productive. Your bosses will be happy with your work. This week, singles will have lots of chances to find love. You will be very charming and will attract many people of the opposite gender.

Tip of the week: Showcase your talents

Virgo

This week, you will be in a domestic mood. You may want to be at home more or with your family members. This is the right time for house renovations or buying a house. Your emotions might be slightly more sensitive, so don't take things too personally. For job seekers, this is a good week to apply for government jobs or those related to real estate, construction, or agriculture. Employees may experience some difficulties at work due to ego conflicts with their colleagues or superiors. Do not get distracted, and concentrate on your assignment. If committed, there could be some miscommunication or emotional conflict with your partner.

Tip of the week: Don't take things personally

Libra

This week, your level of confidence will be high. Tap into this positive energy to start new projects or initiatives that you have been putting off. Nevertheless, do not become overconfident and make rash decisions in an impulsive manner. Ponder over it carefully before taking any major steps. This is a good time to learn new skills or pick up that hobby you have wanted to do for a long time. Those who are preparing for government job exams or entrance tests can expect good results. Self-employed people can also grow their business. If single, you may encounter an interesting person this week who has a lot in common with you.

Tip of the week: Learn new skills

Scorpio

This week, don't miss the opportunity to do something meaningful. It is a good time to start new projects or initiatives. Nevertheless, be careful and do not take unjustified risks. Make sure you think through your decisions thoroughly before you act. The possibility of misunderstandings or arguments with co-workers exists. Keep yourself calm and try to settle the problems peacefully. Your efforts and determination will be appreciated by the seniors. This week, you might have to manage your family responsibilities along with your other engagements. Be patient and understanding with elderly relatives who might require your assistance.

Tip of the week: Do not take unjustified risks

Sagittarius

This week, you will be prepared for new challenges. But, be cautious of not being overconfident or arrogant. Strike a balance between your self-assurance and humility, and show respect to others. If you are looking for a job, now is the perfect time to be proactive. Update your resume and apply for jobs that match your competencies and preferences. Your charm and confidence will be evident in the interviews, thus boosting your chances of success. Single Sagittarians, you will be drawn to people who like your magnetic personality this week. Nevertheless, be mindful not to appear too pushy or aggressive. Organise a family party or an outing to strengthen your relationships.

Tip of the week: Show respect to others

Capricorn

This week, you might experience a little bit of energy drainage. Don't beat yourself up about it. Dedicate some time for self-reflection and self-care. If you have been overworking, this is the best time to slow down and recharge your batteries. Don't overload yourself with new commitments until you feel more energetic. Finish up any unfinished business from previous projects. Give away those old things that you do not need anymore to make room for new, fresh energy. The love life may be a bit of a challenge this week. You might be lacking in the motivation to go out and date. It's fine; make use of this time for self-improvement. Take into account your past behaviour that didn't work for you.

Tip of the week: Recharge your batteries

Aquarius

This week you will be more sociable and livelier. You can get chances to make new friends, or you may even join some groups. Seize this opportunity to meet and interact with people who share similar interests. Nevertheless, keep away from being too blunt or rebellious in your attitude. Maintain a balanced perspective. This is a good time for those who are already employed to take up new responsibilities or leadership roles within a team. You might be surprised to find that the seniors will highly value your ideas. Nevertheless, do not be overly unconventional or disruptive. This is a great time for those who are in committed relationships to socialise more as a pair. Attend events or gatherings together.

Tip of the week: Make new connections

Pisces

This week, your creativity will be at its peak. Take advantage of this time to begin new projects or activities. But do not be too confident or arrogant. Your leadership skills will make you a great leader at work and in social circles. People will depend on you to go in the right direction. Now is a good time for job seekers. Your self-assurance will make you stand out among other candidates in the interview. Emphasise your special abilities and the work you have done. Family ties will be tightened as a result of the time spent together. Go to social events or family occasions. Your compassionate nature will be cherished by the elderly.

Tip of the week: Stay grounded and humble

New Delhi, May 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) While people in some southern states have built beautiful homes, they have not made enough self-sustaining economic activity, said Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu on Saturday.

"The Chettinad region in Tamil Nadu gave rise to people who built so much wealth. Yet productive investment by the people hailing from this region happened elsewhere -- including a lot in Chennai," Sridhar said in a post on X.com, in reply to a user who said that the region now remains "deserted."

The user noted that while "tourism is slowly" giving hope to the place, it is only filled "during the marriage" season, which takes place in "ancestral homes."

Sridhar noted that his company has "an office in the beautiful Chettinad palace near Karaikudi."

He added that the region has "not seen much economic development. A lot of the palaces are empty" as people have migrated to other places.

"Kerala and more recently Andhra Pradesh" have also suffered similar migration problems, said the CEO of the global software-as-a-service (SaaS) company.

"Migrants from these places got rich elsewhere and have built beautiful homes in their native regions but haven't invested in enough self-sustaining economic activity. It is important to understand this factor," he said.

Gandhinagar, May 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The summer heat has intensified in Gujarat, prompting the state weather department to issue an orange alert till May 21.

Temperature is expected to range between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius across the state. The alert covers major cities, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bhuj, Amreli, and Rajkot.

An orange alert for heat is a weather warning issued by meteorological agencies to indicate extreme heat conditions that pose a significant risk to public health. It is the second-highest warning level, typically indicating more severe conditions than a yellow alert but not as critical as a red alert.

An orange alert is issued when temperature is expected to be very high, often in the 40-45 degrees Celsius range.

New Delhi, May 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Boeing Starliner's historic crewed manned mission has been delayed yet again over a helium leak detected in one of the capsule's thrusters, said NASA on Saturday.

The spacecraft, aiming to carry NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Indian-Origin Sunita Williams to the space station, is expected to fly on May 25.

"NASA, @BoeingSpace, and @ulalaunch are now targeting no earlier than 3:09 pm ET May 25 for the launch of the agency's Boeing Crew Flight Test mission," NASA said in a post on X.com

"Teams will use the additional time to finalise next steps that address a stable helium leak on the #Starliner service module," it added.

After facing several delays over the years, Starliner's first crewed mission was planned on May 7.

However, it was scrubbed two hours before launch, due to a valve issue on the upper stage of the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

The mission then slipped to May 10, and later May 21, due to a helium leak.

NASA officials performed a pressure testing on May 15 on the Starliner's helium system, which showed that “the leak in the flange is stable and would not pose a risk at that level during the flight”.

"The testing also indicated the rest of the thruster system is sealed effectively across the entire service module," NASA said.

Boeing said its "teams are working to develop operational procedures to ensure the system retains sufficient performance capability and appropriate redundancy during the flight".

Meanwhile, the ULA Atlas V rocket and Boeing's Starliner that was rolled back from the launch pad, remain in the Vertical Integration Facility at Space Launch Complex-41 on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The astronauts Wilmore and Williams will remain quarantined in Houston as pre-launch operations progress.

The Starliner mission aims to carry astronauts and cargo for future NASA missions to low Earth orbit, and beyond.

Hyderabad, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) While the polling for the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana has ended, the political heat continues as the major political players have intensified their campaign for the by-election of the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' constituency.

The candidates of the ruling Congress and opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are vying with each other to woo voters for the May 27 by-election.

There are 4.6 lakh voters in the constituency spread over 34 assembly seats in the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda. There are 52 candidates in the fray but it will be mainly a triangular contest among the Congress, the BRS, and the BJP.

The vacancy arose after Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of the BRS resigned after he was elected to the Assembly from the Jangaon constituency in the November 2023 Assembly elections.

The BRS, which is making every effort to retain the seat, has fielded A. Rakesh Reddy, who had quit the BJP to join it just before the Assembly elections after he was denied a ticket from the Warangal constituency.

Chintapandu Naveen, also known as Teenmaar Mallanna, who had contested as an independent and finished second in the election for the MLC seat held two years ago, is in the fray this time as the Congress candidate.

The BJP has again fielded its state General Secretary G. Premender Reddy, who secured fourth place in 2021.

The key candidates have intensified their campaigning. They are meeting the voters and seeking their support for the upcoming by-poll.

The by-election is a prestige battle for Congress as the party is keen to demonstrate that it continues to enjoy the support of graduates. Jobs for unemployed youth was one of its key promises in the Assembly elections and it is reiterating its commitment to fill two lakh vacancies through the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) before the end of 2024.

In 2021, Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) President and academician M. Kodandaram also contested the poll from this MLC constituency but finished third. There were allegations that money was distributed among voters to defeat Kodandaram, a bitter critic of BRS President and then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Kodandaram, a former professor of political science at Osmania University, had played a key role in the Telangana movement as convenor of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), which included TRS (now BRS). He was considered close to KCR. However, after the formation of Telangana in 2014, differences cropped up between them and Kodandaram floated the TJS.

In the recent Assembly elections, Kodandaram backed the Congress and the latter rewarded him by nominating him to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.

With Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and ministers backing him, Teenmaar Mallanna is confident of wresting the seat from BRS.

The ruling party has 33 out of the 34 MLAs in the graduates' constituency.

Mallanna, who belongs to Backward Classes Munnuru Kapu community, joined the Congress before the Assembly elections. He was earlier with the BJP.

The BRS is sparing no effort to defeat Mallanna, whom its leaders call a "blackmailer". Mallanna runs a YouTube channel considered highly critical of KCR and his family. He was arrested for his alleged derogatory posts and comments against KCR when BRS was in power.

The BRS is appealing to voters to elect the well-educated Rakesh Reddy, who completed his higher studies in the US. The BJP is banking on the PM Narendra Modi factor to win the support of graduates.

The polling will be held on May 27 while counting of votes will be taken up on June 5, a day after counting of votes polled in Lok Sabha elections.

The key political players in the state are also waiting for the result of another by-poll.

The by-election to the Legislative Council from Mahabubnagar Local Authorities’ Constituency was held on March 28 and the counting of votes was scheduled on April 2. However, the Election Commission postponed the counting to June 2 in view of the model code of conduct announced for the Lok Sabha elections.

A total of 1,439 voters, including municipal councillors, MPTCs, ZPTCs and ex-officio members, were eligible to cast their votes in the by-election and barring two, all cast their votes on March 28.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had cast his vote as an ex-officio member in his capacity as MLA from Kodangal constituency.

The by-election witnessed a direct fight between Manney Jeevan Reddy of the Congress and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy of BRS. Independent candidate Sudershan Goud was also in the fray.

The by-election was necessitated after Kasireddy Narayan Reddy of the BRS resigned and successfully contested as a Congress candidate from the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency in the Assembly elections.

Agra May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Can you believe 40 per cent of the vehicles running on Indian roads are without mandatory Insurance cover?

This information was revealed by the Central Government in a Supreme Court petition, highlighting the issue of uninsured vehicles in road accidents.

According to the Central Government's disclosure in the court case, only around 60 per cent of vehicles have third-party insurance coverage based on e-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) data.

Consequently, in the event of an accident involving one of these uninsured vehicles, individuals are unable to claim insurance payouts and must pursue compensation by legal means from the vehicle owners, which can be a challenging process.

Senior Supreme Court advocate KC Jain who has petitioned the apex court on this issue has called for the implementation of e-challans for vehicles without insurance on the roads, stating that 40 per cent of vehicles are currently uninsured.

In his writ petition No. 202442 of 2023, Jain has asked for electronic monitoring of vehicles for compliance with traffic rules as per Section 136A of the Motor Vehicles Act, in which he has demanded that whenever a vehicle is checked through electronic cameras, it should automatically be known whether it has third party insurance or not and if it is not insured then it should be challenged.

"The data available with the Transport Ministry also includes data on uninsured vehicles too, and the period it's valid or expired. Through electronic monitoring, those vehicles which are not insured can be easily challenged," Jain said.

Jain said that according to Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, "every vehicle must get third party insurance and if a vehicle owner does not get third party insurance of his vehicle, then he is committing a punishable offense under Section 196 of the Act.

For the first offense, imprisonment up to three months or a fine up to Rs 2,000 or both can be imposed and if this offence is committed again, then imprisonment up to 3 months or a fine up to Rs 5000 or both can be imposed. Despite these provisions, vehicle owners are running their vehicles on the roads without third-party insurance."

An amount of Rs 38,046 crore was received by general insurance companies from vehicle owners as third-party premium in the year 2018-19, which increased to Rs 49,508 crore in the year 2022-23 and to about Rs 50,000 crore in the financial year 2023-24. Despite this, 40 percent of the vehicles are running on the roads without insurance.

The issue of vehicles running without insurance was also raised in the Lok Sabha, about which the Finance Minister, while answering Unstarred Question No. 3211 on March 20, 2023, said that excluding Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep, the number of vehicles is approximately 30.48 crore. Of them, 16.54 crore vehicles are running without insurance, Jain said.

The Supreme Court Road Safety Committee has also expressed concern over this matter and in its meeting dated March 26, 2018, said that 66 per cent of the vehicles are plying on the roads without third-party insurance due to which the heirs of the persons deceased in accidents are not able to get compensation.

Jain said that if the Supreme Court orders challan of vehicles without insurance through electronic monitoring, then the heirs of the deceased and the injured in road accidents will get a big relief. The next date of hearing in the apex court is July 11.

New Delhi, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Vaccination, hygiene, and a balanced diet are the major ways to prevent hepatitis A -- a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV) --, said doctors on Friday amid reports of a severe outbreak in Kerala.

Hepatitis A is spread via ingestion of contaminated food and water or through direct contact with an infectious person.

Hepatitis A outbreak in Kerala

Kerala's Malappuram district has in the last few days seen a massive outbreak of Hepatitis A, with reportedly about 8,000 cases and 12 deaths.

Kerala has continually been witnessing such outbreaks since 2018. As per the government data, the state has witnessed 1,977 confirmed cases and 12 deaths since January this year.

In addition, about 5,536 suspected Hepatitis cases have also been reported, and 15 are suspected to have died due to the virus.

"The increase in temperature and decrease in rainfall and decreasing surface water has impacted drinking water quality, heightening the risk of waterborne illnesses like Hepatitis A, typhoid and gastroenteritis which spreads through contaminated water and food, particularly when faecal matter pollutes water sources," Lorance Peter, Director - Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Sakra World Hospital Bengaluru, told IANS.

Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George has reportedly put four districts -- Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, and Ernakulam -- on alert as a maximum number of cases have been reported from here.

Naveen Ganjoo, Senior Consultant - Hepatology & Integrated Liver Care, Aster RV Hospital, Bengaluru, said that the affected population in Kerala is mainly adults as the state is typically good in sanitation so they have managed to prevent Hepatitis A in children.

"It has been seen that at this age Hepatitis A is more dangerous. Also, a different strain particular to geography may be in play as there is also renal impairment with liver dysfunction which is the main organ affected," Naveen told IANS.

Hepatitis A and its implications

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection. But unlike Hepatitis B and C, it does not lead to chronic liver disease but can cause severe symptoms and, in rare cases, lead to liver failure.

Symptoms often include fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and jaundice. Most people recover fully within a few weeks to months, but the illness can cause severe weakness.

Especially in older adults or those with underlying liver conditions, it can cause acute liver failure, a life-threatening condition,

"Hepatitis A spreads primarily through the faecal-oral route, often via contaminated food or water. Common sources include consuming raw or undercooked food, drinking contaminated water or ice, eating food prepared by someone with the virus who has not practised proper hand hygiene, and close personal contact with an infected person or caring for someone who is ill," said Lokesh L V, Lead Consultant Gastroenterologist, SPARSH Hospital, Bengaluru.

Lorance explained that jaundice is a common symptom of Hepatitis, and appears well after the virus has been present in stool for up to two weeks and can persist beyond the resolution of symptoms, thereby contributing to silent ongoing contamination.

Maintaining liver health and nutrition during a hepatitis attack is paramount, necessitating lifestyle adjustments such as no alcohol intake and refraining from smoking.

"A balanced diet during this time should consist of ample whole grains, fruits, and vegetables packed with essential vitamins and fibre. Healthy fats like Medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil and olive oil can help reduce inflammation, while lean proteins from poultry, fish, and legumes are beneficial. Despite dietary constraints, there are plenty of appetising and nutritious food choices available, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal produce to boost overall nutritional intake," Lorance said.

The expert also stressed the need to take the vaccination drive seriously "to prevent this epidemic as it is easily spread in a larger population which can be detrimental and increase massive burden on healthcare."

"Hepatitis A vaccine is safe, effective, and recommended for all children and adults who are at risk," Lokesh said.

He also called for regular handwashing with soap and water, cooking food thoroughly, and drinking bottled or boiled water.

Chhotaudepur, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) More than 800 cases of hypertension have been reported in Udaipur's Chhotaudepur district within one-and-a-half-month.

Additionally, a recent health check-up camp for government employees revealed that 295 out of 3,471 employees were diagnosed with hypertension.

Chhotaudepur has a significant tribal population, primarily comprising communities like the Rathwa, Bhil, and Naikda tribes.

World Hypertension Day, observed on May 17, aims to raise awareness about hypertension.

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a medical condition where the force of the blood against the artery walls is consistently too high. This condition can lead to serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.

From April to May 15, the District Health Department conducted non-communicable disease diagnosis camps every Friday at various sub-centers, screening 30,385 people. Out of these, 875 were found to be hypertensive.

District Health Department also organised health diagnosis camps for government employees. The initiative, stressing the moral responsibility of maintaining employee health, found 295 hypertensive patients among 3,471 employees screened, officials shared.

Experts attribute the rise in hypertension to modern lifestyle changes.

C. B. Choubisa, District Health Officer, emphasised that "hypertension can be managed with proper diagnosis, regular medication, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle changes".

He stressed the importance of regular blood pressure checks, particularly from age 30, due to increased stress and sedentary habits.

"Once a concern for older adults, it is now prevalent among younger individuals, with significant cases reported among those aged 20 to 30. The shift is largely due to increased stress and decreased physical activity," Choubisa added.

He advocated for regular exercise and a healthy daily routine as effective measures against hypertension.

A combination of factors can cause hypertension. Primary hypertension, the most common type, typically develops gradually over years and is influenced by genetic predisposition, aging, obesity, physical inactivity, a high-sodium diet, excessive alcohol consumption, tobacco use, and chronic stress.

Secondary hypertension, which occurs more suddenly, is often due to underlying conditions such as kidney disease, adrenal gland tumors, thyroid problems, and illegal drugs like cocaine.

New Delhi, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Captain Gopichand Thotakura, a pilot, is set to become the first Indian to travel to the edge of space on Blue Origin's next flight on May 19, the company announced on Thursday.

He will become the second Indian to visit space, after Rakesh Sharma's iconic journey aboard Russian Soyuz T-11 in 1984.

After Rakesh Sharma, only people of Indian origin have been in space -- Kalpana Chawla (1997), Sunita Williams (2006), and Raja Chari (2021) as NASA astronauts.

"As the first civilian Indian astronaut embarking on this historic journey with Blue Origin's NS-25 mission, I am honoured to represent India on this voyage," Captain Gopichand said.

"India is making a mark in space exploration worldwide. This voyage is a symbol of the spirit of human endeavour and ingenuity on a global scale. I hope this exploration inspires future generations of STEAM professionals as we push the boundaries of space exploration together," he added.

Along with Captain Gopichand, Blue Origin's NS-25 mission will carry distinguished crew members Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth L. Hess, Carol Schaller, and former Air Force Captain Ed Dwight to the edge of space.

According to the company, the mission is expected to lift off from Launch Site One in West Texas, with the launch window for the flight starting at 0830 CT (7 pm IST).

The Jeff Bezos’ owned company has to date undertaken six human flight missions, and launched 31 people to the Karman line -- the internationally recognised boundary of space 100 kms above the ground.

New Delhi, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) British-Swedish pharma giant AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine, made in collaboration with Oxford University has been found to raise the risk of vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT) -- a rare but fatal blood clotting disorder, claimed researchers on Thursday.

While not new, VITT emerged as a new disease following adenovirus vector-based Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine -- sold as Covishield in India and Vaxzevria in Europe -- at the height of the Covid pandemic in 2021.

"An unusually dangerous blood autoantibody directed against a protein termed platelet factor 4 (or PF4)" was found as the reason for VITT.

In separate research in 2023, scientists from Canada, North America, Germany and Italy described a virtually identical disorder with the same PF4 antibody that was fatal in some cases after natural adenovirus (common cold) infection.

Now in a new research, Flinders University in Australia and other international experts found that the PF4 antibodies in both adenovirus infection-associated VITT and classic adenoviral vector VITT share identical molecular fingerprints or signatures.

"Indeed, the pathways of lethal antibody production in these disorders must be virtually identical and have similar genetic risk factors,” said Professor Tom Gordon from Flinders

The researcher noted that the "findings have the important clinical implication that lessons learned from VITT are applicable to rare cases of blood clotting after adenovirus (a common cold) infections, as well as having implications for vaccine development".

The same team had in a 2022 study "cracked the molecular code of the PF4 antibody and identified a genetic risk factor".

Their new findings, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, also have important implications for improving vaccine safety.

The research comes after AstraZeneca "accepted, in a legal document submitted to the High Court in February, that its Covid vaccine 'can, in very rare cases, cause Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Syndrome (TTS)'."

TTS is a rare side effect that can cause people to have blood clots and a low blood platelet count. It has been linked to the death of at least 81 people in the UK as well as hundreds of serious injuries.

The company has also voluntarily withdrawn "marketing authorisation" of its Covid vaccine from Europe and other global markets.

Itanagar, May 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) As inter-state prostitution racket continues to haunt Arunachal Pradesh, six more accused, including a state police official and three pimps, have been arrested and one more minor girl rescued from the clutches of the traffickers, police said on Wednesday.

Police said that with this, so far five minors have been rescued and 21 accused arrested in the inter-state prostitution racket involving human traffickers from the state and neighbouring Assam.

A police official said that after interrogating the earlier 15 detainees, six more persons, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Bulang Marik, posted with the first battalion of Arunachal Armed Police, a police constable, three pimps, and one more were arrested on Tuesday.

The fifth minor girl (15 years old) was rescued from a lodge at Zoo Road in Chimpu.

As part of the ongoing probe, the police identified a couple -- Dulal Basumatary, 52, and Dipali Basumatary, 44 -- who run the City Hotel at Zoo Road in Itanagar, along with its manager Deepak Parajuli, 24, who had pushed minor girls into the flesh trade.

The Basumatarys are residents of Udalguri and Parajuli hails from Assam's Narayanpur.

Police, on May 1, busted the inter-state prostitution and human trafficking racket, rescued four minors, and arrested 15 persons, including six government servants, in connection with the case.

According to police, the minor girls, aged 10 to 15 years, were trafficked into Arunachal Pradesh from Dhemaji in neighbouring Assam by two sisters, who allegedly ran a brothel in Itanagar.

The rescued girls told the police that they were brought to Itanagar from Dhemaji by the sisters, identified as Pushpanjali and Purnima Mili. Subsequently, two more minor girls trafficked from Dhemaji were rescued from the clutches of Pushpanjali Mili.

The girls were forced into prostitution by the sisters along with two other women. The police also identified two hotels and a beauty parlour involved in the crime.

Arunachal Pradesh Women Commission Chairperson Kenjum Pakam urged the state government to take stern action against those involved in the child trafficking and sexual exploitation racket.

The Commission, in a statement, said that it was deeply shocked and anguished by the heinous crime of sex trafficking of minor girls from the neighbouring state. It is also shameful to know that women and learned persons are involved in the case, it said.

It urged the police to keep vigil on hotels, parlours, or any other suspicious places in and around the Itanagar Capital Region so that no immoral activities take place.

The Apatani Women Association Ziro (AWAZ) in the Lower Subansiri district has strongly condemned the racket, while the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has demanded the cancellation of the licence of hotels and beauty parlours involved in the case.

In a petition to Itanagar Capital Region Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, it said that the gravity of the situation necessitates immediate and decisive action to address the root causes and prevent further exploitation of vulnerable girls from poor families.

APWWS President Kani Nada Maling said: "The fast action would serve as a deterrent and indicate the zero-tolerance policy of the state government towards such reprehensible practices." The NGO said that as part of the stringent measures, all the guests must produce valid ID cards, and a daily guest list must be submitted to the local administration and the police for thorough scrutiny and verification.

New Delhi, May 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Women’s internet adoption on mobile phones has reached 37 per cent in India, while adoption among men remains stable, narrowing the gender gap from 40 per cent to 30 per cent, a global report showed on Wednesday.

In 2023, an additional 120 million women connected to the internet via mobile globally.

More women in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) are using mobile internet than ever before, 1.5 billion (66 per cent) in total, according to the report by the GSMA, a global organisation that represents mobile network operators worldwide.

However, an alarming 785 million women remain unconnected, with approximately 60 per cent in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, said the annual ‘Mobile Gender Gap Report 2024’ by the GSMA.

Claire Sibthorpe, Head of Digital Inclusion at the GSMA, said that the reduction in the mobile internet gender gap is promising but “sustaining momentum is fragile”.

“We are collaborating with the industry, policymakers and other relevant partners to address key barriers including affordability, awareness and digital skills,” Sibthorpe added.

The GSMA estimates that closing the gender gap in mobile ownership and usage across LMICs could deliver an additional $230 billion in revenue to the mobile industry over an eight-year period.

The gender gap in mobile internet adoption across LMICs has narrowed for the first time since 2020, driven by women adopting it at a faster rate than men, particularly in South Asia.

Women are now 15 per cent less likely than men to use mobile internet across LMICs, the findings showed.

Across LMICs, there are now 1.4 billion women who own a smartphone, meaning that 60 per cent of women now own a smartphone device.

However, there are still 40 per cent of women in these countries, totalling 940 million, who do not own a smartphone.

“Mobile remains the primary -- and often only -- way people in LMICs access the internet, accounting for 84 per cent of broadband connections in 2023,” the report noted.

Kochi, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) A recently-married woman on Tuesday complained to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the State Women's Commission about "inaction" by Kozhikode police on her complaint about the dowry harassment she had to undergo at her husband's home.

The wedding took place on May 5 and on May 12, ending the marriage, the woman returned to her home with her parents.

The 29-year-old bridegroom, Rahul is an aeronautical engineer in Germany, and his parents are now settled in Kozhikode.

The victim, who works in a leading multinational firm, said that her harassment started a few days after the wedding.

"He (Rahul) told me that he had all the credentials to get 150 sovereigns of gold and a car. I was beaten by him (on the night of May 11). He used the cable of the mobile charger to try to strangulate me. When I cried loudly, he told me not to cry as his parents, who stayed on the ground floor, would hear. I did hear sounds of someone coming up but, when I stopped crying, they seemed to have gone back," said the harassed young woman, who accused him of trying to kill her.

"When I was taken to the hospital, he managed to convince the doctor that I had a fall and suffered the injuries," she added.

The victim’s mother said it was on May 12, as part of the custom to visit the in-laws, a big group of relatives reached their house in Kozhikode.

"We waited for a while but we could not see my daughter. I then called her mobile, but it was switched off. Later I called Rahul, he said they were freshening up and would come down soon. After a while, he came down and later I saw a woman walking down. It took me a while to realise it was my daughter. Her face was swollen and she looked completely in distress," the mother said.

"Later I spoke to her in person and at first she denied any harassment, but later she revealed how she was harassed and beaten up. We decided to see that we end the marriage and we took our daughter back with us," she said, adding that the police at Kozhikode - whom they first approached - did not rise to the occasion on their complaint.

Kolkata, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian Army has built a first-of-a-kind gun park at Telipara in Siliguri, West Bengal, with Light Grade Steel Frame (LGSF) Technology.

Gun parks, where state-of-the-art artillery guns such as the Dhanush and Bofors are billeted when not in use, are normally concrete structures. However, the LGSF structure not only took about half the time as a concrete building to build but it also offers greater durability against severe weather conditions.

“The Army adopted contemporary technological advancements in civil engineering and successfully constructed the gun park with LGSF Technology. The park has been named the ‘Astra Gun Park’ and was dedicated to the Astra Gunners by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brahmastra Corps. Construction work started in May 2022 and was completed in record time,” a spokesperson of the Army’s Eastern Command said.

This technology will help in setting up gun parks faster at locations where artillery brigades are located. This will also help in protecting strategic assets like artillery guns from the vagaries of nature.

Among those present during the ceremony were the commander of the Astra Brigade, chief engineer, Siliguri Zone as well as commanding officers and all ranks.

The tunnel spanning 2,790 metres is a crucial link connecting Akhnoor with Poonch.

The Akhnoor-Poonch road, or 'The Golden Arc Road', is an old and highly-strategic 200 Km stretch connecting South Kashmir/Jammu region with the West of J&K.

It connects the important border districts of Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch. There are four major tunnels in this stretch -- Kandi tunnel, Sungal tunnel, Naushera tunnel, and Bhimber Gali tunnel.

Director General of Border Roads (DGBR), Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan reviewed the breakthrough ceremony, which signifies a major achievement in the construction activity of the tunnel.

The breakthrough underscores the importance of this project, signifying a major step forward in enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation along the National Highway.

During his address, Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is spearheading crucial road projects to connect the remote areas with the major centres in the Jammu-Poonch region.

The Jammu-Poonch link, advancing rapidly, is on track for completion in the next few years.

On being asked about the development of defence infrastructure along the LoC, he said it is a continuous process and the BRO is committed towards strengthening the infrastructure by building and upgrading strategic roads at crucial points.

Lt Col Suneel Bartwal informed that on January 28, the breakthrough of Naushera tunnel was achieved, signifying the efforts of the BRO towards providing connectivity across the areas of Rajouri and Poonch.

The progress of the National Highway has picked up pace and the project is expected to be completed by 2026.

Gandhinagar, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The India Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thundershowers across Gujarat till Thursday (May 16).

Areas predicted to experience weather disturbances include Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Narmada, Bharuch, and Mahisagar.

Notably, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, and Panchmahal may also witness thundershowers on May 15, followed by further rain in districts such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Dahod, Gir Somnath, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on May 16.

Two people died in rain-related incidents on Monday.

Unseasonal rainfall accompanied by severe winds disrupted power supply in 249 villages, uprooted trees and damaged crops.

The Narmada region's Garudeshwar received the highest rainfall. In Junagadh, the strong winds uprooted trees and led to power outages.

The state's disaster management teams have been mobilised in response to the crisis. The administration has directed Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), Roads and Building Department, Police and the Forest Department to remain active.

After damage in various districts, on Monday evening, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel convened an emergency meeting.

Officials shared that Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey provided an overview of the conditions, citing rainfall measurements ranging from 2 to 38 millimeters across 41 talukas.

Chief Minister Patel had urged the state's Acting Chief Secretary to maintain the readiness of the State Emergency Operation Centre and District Control Rooms to prevent further casualties and minimise property damage.

The unseasonal rains have also sparked concerns among farmers, particularly regarding the potential damage to the cashew and mango crops in areas like Una of Gir Somnath. The Chief Minister has ordered an assessment of the agricultural damage.

New Delhi, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) SPACE India, a space educational organisation, has joined hands with the American Center to launch an astronomy and space science workshop series, it said on Tuesday.

The once-a-month workshop series aims to foster space science and astronomy education at the grassroots level and also marks a significant milestone in the enduring saga of Indo-US relations.

As part of the partnership, SPACE India conducted the inaugural workshop titled "Get Set, Make Hydraulic System for Space Applications" on Monday, at the American Center in New Delhi.

"The profound impact of the workshop was remarkable, with attendees gaining newfound appreciation and respect for the opportunities presented. Their enriched understanding will undoubtedly catalyse further exploration and discovery, opening doors to a world of possibilities previously considered beyond reach," said Sachin Bahmba, Founder and CMD, Space Group.

The two-hour long workshop, tailored exclusively for students aged 13 to 18 and provided free of charge, explored the dynamism projected by the fluid mechanics.

After equipping students with the knowledge, the children then crafted astronomical models inspired by space, driven by foundational principles. Participants unravelled hydraulics' fundamentals, and its applications in space, and navigated through problem-solving challenges.

The workshop also offered hands-on engineering experiences such as constructing a working model of a space-inspired system and exploring real-world applications of hydraulics in space exploration.

"This marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey. It promises to touch the lives of countless individuals, empowering them to explore both themselves and the wondrous realms that lie beyond," said the organisation that aims to roll out the workshop to a larger audience in the near future.

Kohima, May 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a significant step, the government of Nagaland has decided to constitute a Political Affairs Committee (PAC), to find an inclusive solution to the decades-long Naga political issue, an official said here on Monday.

A state government official said that Nagaland Parliamentary Affairs Minister K.G. Kenye stated that the PAC would play the role of an active "facilitator" to find a comprehensive solution to the long awaited Naga political issue.

The official said that the decision to constitute the PAC was taken in a high-level political meeting chaired by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on May 9.

"This is being initiated once again with a renewed vigour in furtherance to the spirit of the all party opposition-less government in pursuit of a broad consensus for an early and amicable settlement of the Naga political issue," the circular stated.

The PAC, according to the official, would approach both the Central government and various Naga groups to pay attention to the voice of the people and find a inclusive and amicable solution to the much awaited Naga political issue.

Ministers and members of all political parties would be the members of the PAC, which would be formed as per the ratio of the members of the respective parties in the 60-member Assembly.

With 25 members, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is leading the opposition less United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government in Nagaland.

The BJP with 12 members is the partner of the UDA while the other allies of the alliance include, Nationalist Congress Party (7 members), National People's Party (5), Naga People's Front (2), Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (2), Republican Party of India-Athawale (2), Janata Dal-United (1) and Independent (4).

The dominant Naga group Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on May 10, stated that in the event of failure of the current talks with the Central government, they are apprehensive of a horrible human rights situation returning to 'Nagalim' -- the Naga dominated areas.

The Naga group said the Naga people under the banner of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim stand firm on the historic Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015. More than 90 rounds of meetings were held between the government and the Naga groups over the decades-old unresolved Naga political issue.

The NSCN-IM has remained unyielding on its demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas as well as integration of Naga-inhabited areas spread over four northeastern states -- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, besides Myanmar.

The NSCN-IM said that the outfit's General Secretary and its chief negotiator, Thuingaleng Muivah has recently unequivocally stated that a solution without the Naga national flag and constitution would never be acceptable to the Naga people.

New Delhi, May 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The seventh edition of the joint military exercise between the Indian and the French Armies, 'Shakti-2024' kicked off on Monday at the Eastern Command's Joint Training Node in Meghalaya's Umroi.

Held alternately in India and France, this year's exercise - which will last until May 26 - focuses on training for ground control operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain under United Nations mandate besides including for the first time Air Force assets as well as Navy and Air Force observers.

It marks a new level of complexity compared to previous editions as it has fielded twice as many troops as before and began with a brigade-level command post-exercise.

The French contingent comprises 90 personnel from the Legion etrangere (Foreign Legion), an elite corps of the French Army. On January 26, another contingent from the Legion etrangere had taken part in India’s Republic Day parade with France as the guest of honour.

This year's Shakti exercise is also taking place in the framework of an intensification of Indo-French defence ties following French President Emmanuel Macron's State Visit to India on January 25-26.

Recently, CDS General Anil Chauhan paid an official visit to France, while the French Navy and Army Chiefs visited India.

A French frigate, FNS Bretagne, made a port call in Kerala last week as part of an Indo-Pacific deployment. The bilateral 'Varuna' naval exercise will take place later this year, and the French Air Force will take part in India's multi-nation Tarang-Shakti exercise scheduled in August.

Defence and security cooperation is an essential component of the Indo-French strategic partnership. It was enshrined as the first pillar of the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, which charts the course of the partnership’s next 25 years, and was adopted during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's landmark 2023 visit to France on the occasion of Bastille Day.

Indo-French defence cooperation aims to strengthen both nations' sovereignty and strategic autonomy and to advance peace in the region.

"Together, we have built a unique strategic partnership, based on a level of mutual trust that is rarely seen between nations. A shining example of this was the unprecedented reciprocal invitation of our leaders to our respective National Days, Bastille Day last year in France, and Republic Day this year in India. The pictures of our troops marching together on the Champs-Elysées in Paris and then on Kartavya Path in Delhi are a powerful and lasting symbol of our friendship," said Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the exercise.

"The aim of this cooperation is to strengthen both our nation’s sovereignty and strategic autonomy, and together advance peace and security in the Indo-Pacific," he added.

New Delhi, May 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a world-first, China's recent laws on increasing play time outside, while limiting online gaming and homework have shown promise to fight surging sedentary behaviour in children, according to a study on Monday.

Sedentary behaviour is known to raise risks of a host of health issues like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, among others.

Researchers led by the University of Bristol revealed that the Chinese government introduced laws to restrict online gaming companies catering to this age group, limited the amount of homework school teachers can assign and also curtailed when private tuition businesses can provide lessons.

The measures helped achieve a 13.8 per cent drop in daily sitting time, which equals more than 45 minutes spent daily in this physically inactive mode.

Average daily screen-viewing time -- including using mobile phones, handheld game consoles, tablets, televisions, games consoles connected to televisions, or computers -- reduced by 6.4 per cent (10 minutes).

The study, published in the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity, showed that the pioneering measures have proved effective, and may help develop future policies and measures aimed at improving children's physical and mental well-being globally.

"The results are exciting as this type of regulatory intervention across multiple settings has never been tried before,” said Dr. Bai Li, from the Center for Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences at the University's School for Policy Studies.

The lead author said that traditionally, children and their parents or caregivers were left to make behavioural changes on their own, which never really worked.

But, the new measures helped shift the onus to "online gaming companies, schools, and private tutoring companies to comply".

"This very different approach appears to be more effective because it is aimed at improving the environment in which children and adolescents live, supporting a healthier lifestyle," Bai said.

The findings were based on surveillance data gathered from more than 7,000 primary and secondary school students from 31 urban or rural areas across 14 cities in China in 2020 and 2021, before and after the regulations were introduced.

Imphal, May 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The district administration in Manipur's Imphal West asked the ailing and people with health issues to shift to safer places after the eruption of a mixture of gas and mud in Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai area since Saturday created a potential hazard, officials said on Sunday.

District officials said that the flare-up of a mixture of gas and mud was largely controlled on Sunday but efforts were on to fully end it.

District Magistrate Kiran Kumar said that the eruption occurred on the land of Yurembam Manihar as workers were digging to set up a hand pump for domestic use, affecting the environment, including air quality. The situation is currently under inspection by a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and technical experts to find out the causes, the composition of erupted material, and the consequences of the incident on lives and the environment.

The situation is under proper scientific observation, the DM said in an order, adding that to avoid any potential hazards to the lives of the people living in the vicinity, they are advised to take certain precautionary as well as preventive actions. Considering the circumstances, people (especially those having breathing issues due to asthma or past Covid-19 history, small children or infants, or those in advanced stages of pregnancy), residing in the vicinity of the location (within a radius of 100 metres), were instructed to shift to a safer place until further instruction, the order read.

The vegetation grown in the area should not be consumed without proper washing during this period before further instructions, it added.

New Delhi, May 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bolstering defence ties between the two countries, Director General of Defence Intelligence Agency (DG DIA) Lieutenant General D.S. Rana will begin his two-day visit to Tanzania starting Monday.

Lieutenant General Rana's visit to the East African country, seen as one of New Delhi's reliable partners in the region, will be yet another step towards enhancing the security of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of SAGAR – Safety and Growth for All in the Region.

Last October, after the two countries agreed to a five-year roadmap for defence cooperation in June 2023, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Pande visited Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation with the larger aim of enhancing security in the IOR.

Besides holding meetings with the country's defence leadership and delivering a keynote address on New Delhi's 'Make in India, Make for the World' capability under the 'Atamnirbhar Bharat' initiative, General Pande also gifted a 'Made in India' Infantry Simulator and bulletproof jackets to Tanzania Peoples' Defence Force (TPDF).

During his two-day visit, Lieutenant General Rana will present the TPDF with more Indian-manufactured bulletproof jackets as a gesture of goodwill towards expanding military cooperation.

He is also scheduled to interact with the senior military leadership of Tanzania, including the Chief of Defence Staff General Jacob John Mkunda and his counterpart, Major General M.N. Mkeremy, Chief of Defence Intelligence and discuss India's security perspective with future leaders of the TPDF during his visit to the Tanzanian National Defence College.

Lt. Gen. Rana will also inaugurate the newly set up Defence Wing at the High Commission of India in Dar Es Salaam. The DG DIA will then inaugurate the library and lay the foundation stone for the gymnasium - being facilitated through the government of India's assistance - at the Command and Staff College in Arusha.

"India shares close, warm and friendly relations with Tanzania, which is bolstered by robust capacity building and avenues for defence cooperation. The visit of the Indian military delegation is expected to further strengthen the elevated strategic partnership with Tanzania," the ministry said in a statement ahead of the visit.

New Delhi, May 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Here is a guide to the week ahead for you. This is your forecast for May 13-19.

Aries

This week, the stars ask you to take that adventure you have always wanted. You will experience a desire to discover new places and have interesting conversations. This energy is contagious, so don't be afraid to emerge from your shell. Your curiosity and open-mindedness will be the best investment for you to discover new knowledge and wonderful chances. Singles may want to connect with someone who encourages their thinking and enjoys exciting experiences. It's not about being afraid to talk or even being funny sometimes. It's about giving people a chance to see your wit and charm. Group work will help students learn better.

Tip of the week: Discover new places

Taurus

This week, you will be full of energy and enthusiasm to tackle anything that comes your way. Use this energy to rethink what you want and where you stand, then make the required changes. Hence, be aware that wealth is not only about material things but also includes the ability to develop a sense of inner richness and fulfilment. If you are a job seeker, this is a good chance to put yourself in the market and pursue opportunities that suit your abilities and interests. Singles should be engaged in activities that bring happiness and satisfaction, which will draw like-minded people.

Tip of the week: Rethink what you want

Gemini

This week, you will have plenty of energy and eagerness. Utilise this time by starting new projects or undertakings that appeal to you. Your communication skills will be out of this world; therefore, share your thoughts freely. Nevertheless, avoid rushing and not scatter your time and energy in all directions. Time management and organisation are crucial to making the most out of the opportunities that you will have. Participate in co-curricular activities by proposing new ideas or taking up additional responsibilities that challenge you mentally. You can be pulled in by requests for time and attention from family members in all directions this week. So, though being altruistic is good, don't try to take on too much.

Tip of the week: Don't scatter your time

Cancer

This week, you may experience a lot of emotional fatigue and be slightly overwhelmed. Give yourself a break to fill your energy. Do not overwork yourself or be overly stressed out. Take some time off the screen and meditate, or do some yoga to stay centred. On the brighter side, there will be plenty of opportunities to be creative, so try to use it profitably. Job Seekers, it is not a good time to look for jobs this week. You might suffer some lags and refusal. Don't give up. Personal relationships can be shaken up by this week with some miscommunications or trust issues. Communicate with your partner openly to dispel any misunderstanding. Don't rush to a judgment or make assumptions.

Tip of the week: Avoid emotional fatigue

Leo

This week, you will have high energy and be driven to accomplish those targets. You will be a confident person as well. This optimism is a tool for your professional and personal life. Nevertheless, you should be careful not to let it slip into the territory of arrogance or overconfidence, which can lead to problems. This is an excellent time for job hunters to send out their resumes and go for job interviews. Through your hard work, the seniors will appreciate you. If you are in a devoted relationship, your partner will be understanding and supportive. Show them your care by giving them an unexpected gift.

Tip of the week: Don’t be arrogant

Virgo

This week, you should be more cautious with your words and actions. Don't be the person who starts the argument or gets into a conflict. Keep calm even when you are upset, and try to think before you start talking. Your health is your biggest asset, so keep it in mind. Consume healthy foods and engage in physical exercise. Criticism or discordance with colleagues and supervisors may be part of your challenges. Do not get defensive; instead, try to understand the perspective of others and listen to the feedback. If single, take this period to think wisely about what you are looking for in your partner and try to keep improving yourself.

Tip of the week: Consume healthy food

Libra

This week, you might just find yourself craving freedom and independence with all your heart. Don't let this energy drive you to the point of being impulsive or reckless. Instead, learn to focus it on constructive work, which will help you achieve your long-term goals. A balanced life makes a lot of sense. This is an excellent opportunity for job applicants to apply for positions that provide a growth path and share their values. Now, your communication skills will be at the top, as in interviews and networking events, and you will be able to utilise them to the maximum. Singles might feel a strong pull towards someone knowledgeable in the same field.

Tip of the week: Focus on constructive work

Scorpio

This week, you will experience some tension and stress. No need to be afraid; this is, in fact, a momentary situation. Pay attention to your mental state and stay calm. Take a few minutes for yourself to do something that makes you feel comfortable. Steer clear of arguments or any conflict that is not necessary. Your inflexibility may bring problems, so it's better to try to be more flexible. Although being confident in your abilities is essential, don't become overconfident. Let your work be your voice. Some of you may even think of career switches, but do not make hasty decisions; thoroughly analyse the situation. Be careful of entering into new relationships.

Tip of the week: Do not take hasty decisions

Sagittarius

This week will undoubtedly be eventful as you will be in a friendly and extroverted mood. Take advantage of this thrumming and reconnect with old friends or make new friends. Your leadership skills will be acknowledged and praised at work by peers and supervisors. Seize every opportunity and be confident in leading projects and expressing your ideas. The chance of promotion or a salary increase may also be in your favour if you do well in your work. Your charismatic nature will have a substantial impact on the way people react to you and will make you a magnet for those who are looking for romantic partners.

Tip of the week: Reconnect with friends

Capricorn

This week, apply your motivation to move fast and to get the job done. Nevertheless, don’t be too hard on yourself and do not overwork or stress yourself too much. Take a break whenever you need to replenish your energy. Choose healthy foods and exercise often to maintain your health. Linking up with your contacts and going for talks can lead you to new opportunities. Job interviews require proper preparation, which includes a thorough research of companies. If you are single, this is an excellent time to get to know the people you work with or through work, which is a fantastic start to the path of love. Be confident, strive for self-improvement, and be ready to take the risk.

Tip of the week: Do not overwork

Aquarius

You will be energised and motivated this week to be on your game! Seize the opportunity to be in a good mood and contribute to completingcritical tasks and projects. Nevertheless, be careful not to become hypersensitive or argue. Whether you are looking for a new job or want to have fun, lady luck will support you. The chances of getting calls or interviews with promising leads are high; thus, your networking efforts and job applications will likely be successful. Demonstrate the fact that you have a distinctive skill set and also that you can view the world from a different perspective.

Tip of the week: Don’t be hypersensitive

Pisces

This week, you are likely to be highly active and excited. You may be assigned new tasks or may have additional responsibilities. But at the same time, avoid overdoing it - rest when needed. Let the inner peace and calmness energise you. This is going to be a blazing week for your love life! Perhaps you might meet that special someone through your friends or social circles. Don't get too apprehensive, and be the one to initiate the first move. Invest the next few days in the company of your parents and siblings. A short road trip would work well. Students will be able to understand complex things clearly. Use this time to study hard and achieve the best grades.

Tip of the week: Take additional responsibilities

New Delhi, May 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, on Saturday, warned users of a "degraded service" as the biggest geomagnetic storm struck the Earth due to solar activity in a very long time.

"Starlink is currently experiencing degraded service. Our team is investigating," the company wrote on its website.

Earlier, in a post on X, the tech billionaire highlighted the severity of the storm, saying that it has put Starlink satellite fleet under intense pressure and described it as "the biggest in a long time".

"Major geomagnetic solar storm happening right now. Biggest in a long time. Starlink satellites are under a lot of pressure, but holding up so far," Musk wrote.

According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a major storm is currently occurring, which is the largest one since October 2003.

This storm is expected to continue over the weekend and poses potential risks to various systems such as navigation, power grids, and satellite navigation.

Meanwhile, Musk has said that Tesla will be investing over $500 million in its Supercharger network to create thousands of new chargers in 2024.

"Tesla will spend well over $500 million expanding our Supercharger network to create thousands of new chargers this year," Musk wrote on X.

He also said that this money only accounts for new sites and expansions, and not for operations costs, which are much higher.

New Delhi, May 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Ministry of Defence on Friday said that the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act has been notified through a gazette notification, to be enforced with effect from May 10.

“The act will ensure better coordination between the three services (army, navy, airforce) and will also bolster the integrated structure. It will prove to be a milestone in the path to India's military reforms,” the ministry said.

It said that the Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs) bill was passed by both the Parliament Houses during the Monsoon Session of 2023 which received the President’s assent on August 15, 2023.

“The act empowers Commanders-in-Chief and Officers-in-Command of ISOs to exercise control over service personnel, serving under them, for effective maintenance of discipline and administration, without disturbing the unique service conditions of each individual service,” the ministry said.

Piloting the bill in Parliament, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the bill as necessary to strengthen the armed forces in the wake of the global security scenario.

The ministry said that, presently, the armed forces personnel are governed in accordance with the provisions contained in their specific Service Acts - the Army Act, 1950, the Navy Act, 1957, and the Air Force Act, 1950.

“Now, there will be various tangible benefits such as maintenance of effective discipline in inter-services establishments by the heads of ISOs, no requirement of reverting personnel under disciplinary proceedings to their parent service units, expeditious disposal of cases of misdemeanours or indiscipline and saving of public money and time by avoiding multiple proceedings,” the ministry said.

It said that it would also pave the way for much greater integration and jointness amongst the three services, lay a strong foundation for the creation of joint structures in times to come and further improve the functioning of the Armed Forces.

“It will be applicable to all personnel of all the three services as well as persons of other forces as notified by the Central government, who are serving in or attached to an Inter-Services Organisation,” the ministry added.

It said that the commander-in-chief or officer-in-command means the General Officer/Flag Officer/Air Officer Commanding who has been appointed to the post.

“To maintain command and control in their absence, the officiating incumbent or the officer on whom the command develops in their absence of a C-in-C or Oi/C, will also be empowered to initiate all disciplinary or administrative actions over the service personnel, appointed, deputed, posted or attached to an Inter-Services organisation,” the ministry added.

New Delhi, May 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Mahindra & Mahindra on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) for the flagship Drone Didi Yojna, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to skill women to become drone pilots.

Under this partnership, Mahindra and MSDE will conduct two pilots at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) in Hyderabad and Noida to skill 500 women in batches of 20 each.

The 15-day curriculum, which has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, will be conducted at these centres by RPTO (Remote Pilot Training Organisation) instructors, the company mentioned.

"The pilot under the Drone Didi Yojana represents a first-of-its-kind convergence of women, farming, and technology. We are delighted to provide technology training to grassroots women and ensure that agriculture is equipped for the future," Dr Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD, Mahindra Group, said in a statement.

The programme aims to train 15,000 women to operate drones for agricultural purposes such as fertiliser sowing, crop monitoring and seed sowing.

"This collaboration advances our mission of upskilling women for nation-building, particularly through the successful implementation of the Drone Didi programme in empowering women in emerging trades," said Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE.

The learnings and outcomes from the Pilot project will help MSDE in scaling up the Drone Didi Yojana at identified NSTIs or ITIs across the country.

As a further support to the intent of the Drone Didi Yojana, Mahindra said that it will soon roll out this training for women at the company’s skilling centres at Zaheerabad, Telangana and Nagpur, Maharashtra.

New Delhi, May 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) While addressing a public meeting in Maharashtra's tribal district of Nandurbar on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised his party's focus on eradicating sickle cell anaemia from the country.

"Congress has never cared for tribal brothers and sisters. Sickle cell anaemia is a big threat in tribal areas. But Congress didn't pay much attention to this disease. It is the BJP that has launched a campaign to eradicate sickle cell anaemia from the root. So that no poor person is malnourished, we have also been concerned about this," said PM Modi.

Having spent a long time among the tribal communities in different parts of the country over the past many decades, PM Modi has stated earlier that the tribal society is "not just a government statistic" but a "matter of empathy and emotional concern" for the BJP.

It is also not for the first time that Prime Minister Modi was highlighting his strong resolve to eliminate the genetic blood disease which is more common in the tribal population of India and affects the lives of over 2.5 lakh children and their families each year.

Last July, while launching the Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, he made it clear that the campaign for freedom from the hereditary disease - "which was not even an issue for the previous governments due to their indifference towards the tribal society" - will become the main mission of the 'Amrit Kaal'.

The government led by him, PM Modi assured, is working in a "mission mode" to liberate the tribal families - and the entire country - from Sickle Cell Anaemia by 2047 when the nation celebrates 100 years of independence.

This is being done by increasing the number of blood banks for patients requiring blood transfusions and opening new facilities for bone marrow transplantations.

PM Modi's deep understanding of the debilitating impact that Sickle Cell Anaemia has on the human body comes from intense interactions he had not just with the tribal communities but also world's leading experts since long before he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

"Even after I became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, I started many campaigns in this regard. When I visited Japan after becoming the Prime Minister, I met a Nobel laureate scientist there. I came to know that he had done a lot of research on sickle cell disease. I also sought his assistance in finding a cure for sickle cell anaemia," he said, last year.

PM Modi was referring to his 2014 meeting with Japan's stem cell pioneer and 2012 Nobel Prize winner Shinya Yamanaka at the Centre for iPS Cell Research and Application in Kyoto during which he expressed concern over the prevalence of sickle cell anaemia among tribal communities across India.

PM Modi and the top BJP leadership have also been mentioning about the government working tirelessly to eradicate many other serious diseases since coming to power in 2014.

This includes working towards completely eliminating tuberculosis by 2025 and making sure that cases of Kala-azar, malaria, leprosy and meningitis reduce by a significant number.
