Tibet, June 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Doraiswami arrived in Lhasa, the historical, cultural, and spiritual capital of Tibet, on Thursday to jointly review arrangements made by local government authorities for Indian pilgrims on the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra (KMY).

"Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami and colleagues from the Embassy arrived in Lhasa today on a first visit to the Tibet Autonomous Region, including to jointly review arrangements made by local government authorities for Indian pilgrims on the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra," the Embassy of India in Beijing wrote on X.

The official Yatris are scheduled to arrive later this month.

Ambassador Doraiswami was received at Lhasa Airport by Yang Lahong, Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

"The Ambassador later met Zhao Peng, Vice Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, who provided a detailed briefing on the facilities and preparations for the pilgrims," the Embassy said.

Last month, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar conducted the computerised draw for the selection of Yatris for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) 2026.

"The 2026 edition of the KMY will commence in June and conclude in August. A total of 1,000 Yatris have been selected through a fair, computer-generated, random, gender-balanced selection process," according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

"The selected Yatris will travel in 20 batches, each consisting of 50 Yatris, through the Lipulekh and Nathu La passes. Both routes are now fully motorable and involve very little trekking," the MEA said.

The entire process for KMY, organised by the MEA in coordination with the Chinese government, commencing from online application till selection of Yatris, is a fully computerised process.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, being significant to Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, also holds religious importance for the Jains and the Buddhists. It was suspended from 2020 till the summer of 2025 following the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent non-renewal of Yatra arrangements by the Chinese side.

According to the MEA, KMY is a very arduous and physically challenging yatra. Yatris have to trek through areas which are as high as 19,500 feet in altitude under inhospitable conditions.

It is organised with the support of the state governments of Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Sikkim, and the cooperation of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) and their associated organisations provide logistical support and facilities for each batch of yatris in India.

Kolkata, June 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) New signage was installed at the Jagannath temple premises in Digha in East Midnapore district on Wednesday, a day after the state government announced the official name change of the complex.

The word 'Dham' has been removed and replaced with 'Cultural Centre'. A flex bearing the name 'Shri Sri Jagannath Cultural Centre' was installed within the temple premises on Wednesday.

The issue of identifying the Digha temple as 'Jagannath Dham' had triggered a controversy earlier. While the facility was described as a 'Cultural Centre' in official documents, the previous Trinamool Congress government had added the word 'Dham' after the construction of the temple.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had also questioned the move. He was then serving as the Leader of the Opposition.

Following the formation of the new government in the state, CM Suvendu Adhikari announced that the Digha Jagannath temple would henceforth be identified by the name recorded in official documents.

Under the revised nomenclature, the complex will be known as 'Shri Sri Jagannath Cultural Centre' and not 'Jagannath Dham'.

The Chief Minister made the announcement on Tuesday after accepting a proposal in this regard from Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

A day later, a new flex carrying the revised name was installed at the temple premises.

The main entrance of the Jagannath temple in Digha earlier displayed signage reading 'Jagannath Dham'. That signage has now been removed.

A new sign bearing the words 'Shri Sri Jagannath Cultural Centre' has been installed within the temple complex.

Ramnagar BJP MLA Chandrashekhar Mandal and Kolkata ISKCON President Radharman Das, who is also one of the trustees of the Digha Jagannath temple, were present during the programme.

The MLA said, "We don't want change, we want correction. Our government did not discard the previous government's project. It only corrected it. In that way, since there were various controversies regarding the Digha Jagannath Dham, the name has been changed to 'Digha Jagannath Temple and Cultural Centre' by removing 'Dham' from it."

Chandigarh, June 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Tuesday sent a reminder letter to the Union government to allot special trains from Punjab to Sri Guru Ravidass Maharaj Janam Asthan Mandir in Varanasi, enabling pilgrims to pay their obeisance.

The Finance Minister, who is Chairman of the Cabinet sub-committee formed by the state government to organise celebrations, made this call while chairing a review meeting to assess the ongoing yearlong celebrations being organised by the state government to commemorate the historic 650th Parkash Purab of Guru Ravidass.

Cheema said, "The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is facilitating free transit under the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra scheme, scheduling regular train and bus services from various districts to Varanasi between April and October."

"The momentum will culminate in grand Shobha Yatras traversing four major routes connecting Varanasi, Faridkot, Bathinda, and Jammu to Khuralgarh during October and November, mapping out hundreds of kilometres to unite devotees."

During the meeting, the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs gave a presentation outlining the month-wise execution plan stretching from February through December 2026.

The extensive celebration calendar began successfully with the 649th Parkash Purab events at Khuralgarh in early February, setting a spiritual foundation that has progressed into a diverse, multi-departmental campaign.

Cheema added that special Kirtan Samagam are being organised across various districts in the state.

After successful spiritual congregations held in Ropar during April, as well as 'samagams' in Phagwara on June 2 and Kapurthala on June 6, the Punjab government has finalised upcoming dates for Amritsar on June 13 and Sangrur on June 20, with subsequent events scheduled for Mohali, Pathankot, Phillaur, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana through October under the direct supervision of the respective Deputy Commissioners.

Emphasising the maximisation of public engagement and leveraging modern technology, Finance Minister Cheema said the state government has approved financial outlays for specialised multimedia exhibitions.

A spectacular drone show will be conducted across 92 distinct venues.

A dedicated budget has been sanctioned for documentary screenings across all villages in Punjab, with the specialised agency officially on-boarded as of June 8 to execute these widespread rural broadcasts.

Jaipur, June 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde said on Tuesday that ancient India was home to the world's highest number of universities, with 19 centres of higher learning that attracted students from across the globe.

Interacting with students of Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad in Karnataka at Lok Bhawan under the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' initiative, the Governor added that India has excelled in culture, knowledge and traditions since ancient times and stressed the need to restore the nation to that position of excellence.

Governor Bagde remarked that India's geographical boundaries in ancient times were far more expansive than they are today.

Referring to regions that now fall within Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, the Governor said these areas were once part of India's vast civilisational landscape.

He also highlighted the intellectual achievements of ancient India and added that students from distant countries travelled here in pursuit of education.

Speaking about the National Education Policy, Governor Bagde said it seeks to instill pride in India's rich heritage while equipping young people to emerge as leaders across sectors.

He stressed that students pursuing technology and professional education should also be familiar with the country's historical and cultural legacy.

The Governor also shared details about Rajasthan's tribal freedom fighter Kalibai and her contribution to India's freedom movement.

He said the vision of 'Viksit Bharat' and 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' is centred on nurturing talent and fostering national unity among the youth.

During the interaction, the Governor acquainted the students with Rajasthan's geography, culture and historical heritage.

He spoke about the diversion of Narmada waters from the Sardar Sarovar Dam to Rajasthan, the significance of Chittorgarh Fort and the history of the Gang Canal, regarded as one of the world's largest lined canals.

Secretary to Rajasthan Governor, Prithvi Raj, was also present on the occasion.

Kolkata, June 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid allegations of the misuse of UNESCO's name and logo during Durga Puja-related activities, complainant Jaydeep Mukhopadhyay on Tuesday termed the matter the “biggest art scam” and called for a thorough investigation into the issue.

Speaking to IANS, Mukhopadhyay alleged that an organisation named Mass Art had been using UNESCO’s name and logo in connection with Durga Puja events over the past few years.

“This is the biggest scam. Just think about it - an organisation like UNESCO, and its name and logo were allegedly used by this organisation called Mass Art in 2022, 2023 and 2024. They divided Durga Puja and collected money from branding companies, ministries, tourism and cultural organisations. One can only imagine the scale of this alleged scam. It is not merely a scam; it is a matter of the country's honour,” he said.

Mukhopadhyay claimed that the issue had affected the image of Durga Puja and the sentiments of people in West Bengal, where the festival holds immense cultural and economic significance.

Referring to UNESCO’s recognition of the festival, he said, “Durga Puja was inscribed in 2021 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. I have filed a complaint against Mass Art President Madhu Chanda Sen, who is the wife of Indranil Sen. They allegedly claimed that UNESCO was a partner with Mass Art and that 24 Durga Puja pandals would be selected from among nearly 1,000 in Kolkata. They also made it mandatory to purchase tickets costing between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000. This, in my view, amounted to a form of mafia-like control and an art scam.”

Mukhopadhyay, who described himself as an international travel consultant, said he had been working since 2010 to promote Durga Puja globally.

“At a time when Durga Puja was not among the world’s most recognised festivals, I worked to promote it internationally. I gave interviews to several media organisations and encouraged vloggers and content creators to visit Kolkata and showcase the festival globally. It was a passion-driven effort,” he said.

Claiming that he had shared relevant documents with the Chief Minister and the BJP’s West Bengal leadership, Mukhopadhyay demanded an impartial probe.

“I believe this is a major art scam, and I want a proper investigation. I had known about certain aspects of the issue earlier, but I did not speak out because there was a culture of fear and intimidation during the Trinamool Congress. Now, I want the truth to come out and for the glory and dignity of Durga Puja to be restored,” he told IANS.

Meanwhile, an international tourism company has lodged a police complaint against former state minister Indranil Sen and his wife, accusing them of illegally selling pre-Puja tickets by misusing the name of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The complaint was filed at the Bowbazar Police Station in central Kolkata. There are allegations that they were running an illegal commercial racket centred around Durga Puja.

On behalf of the international organisation, Joydeep Mukherjee filed a complaint against the former minister, Indranil, and his wife. A separate complaint was also filed with the Director General of Police.

According to the complaint, Kolkata’s Durga Puja received UNESCO recognition in 2021. In 2022, an organisation named MassArt was formed and allegedly began financial activities using UNESCO’s name and logo. Madhuchanda Sen, the wife of Indranil Sen, heads the organisation.

MassArt claimed that it had selected 24 Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata in a joint venture with UNESCO. Joydeep complained that the organisation's statement was completely false. MaasArt had no such agreement with UNESCO. Tickets for the pre-Puja were sold illegally using the name and logo of UNESCO.

It is alleged that transactions worth crores of rupees were involved in this. Following the allegations, Indranil Sen has yet to make any official comment.

Lucknow, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jagadguru Rambhadracharya on Monday dismissed Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations regarding alleged irregularities in the funds of the Ram Mandir and expressed confidence in the functioning of the temple trust.

His remarks came after SP President Akhilesh Yadav alleged that crores of rupees from the offerings made at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya had gone missing and called for judicial intervention in the matter.

In a post on social media platform X, Yadav said: "This is an extremely sensitive piece of news for devotees of Lord Ram across the entire world: crores of rupees in offerings to the 'Ram Mandir' have been found missing."

Reacting to the allegations, Rambhadracharya told IANS, “This is not good. I am saying that there are no irregularities in the Ram Mandir funds. The trust members are doing good work.”

He further claimed that Yadav had never visited the Ram Mandir and suggested that this was the reason behind the allegations.

“He has never gone to visit the Ram Mandir, which is why he is making such accusations. When he visits and sees Lord Ram, all his allegations will come to an end,” Rambhadracharya said.

The seer also reacted to the Varanasi administration’s decision to shut meat shops located around temple areas and ghats.

“They have done very well,” he said, endorsing the move.

Commenting on the future of the Opposition's INDIA Bloc, Rambhadracharya expressed scepticism about the alliance’s prospects.

“The INDIA Bloc will not succeed. Its future does not look very good,” he told IANS.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday hailed the “united fight” against the Modi government, leading to the failure of 'malicious' bills on Delimitation in Lok Sabha and urged the members of the INDIA bloc to strengthen the spirit and resolve to corner and confront the ruling dispensation on multiple pressing issues before the nation.

Kharge, making his opening remarks at the INDIA bloc meet, sought to share a strategic blueprint for rebuilding the Opposition alliance, in the wake of recent setbacks in Assembly elections and also sought active contribution and deliberations from the respective stakeholders in making it a viable and tenable front against the Central government.

“On April 17, 2026, we demonstrated our unity and solidarity in the Lok Sabha in a very decisive manner, when we all came together firmly to defeat the Modi government's malicious bills on delimitation. Now we must strengthen that same spirit even further and move forward, so that we can confront the many political, economic, social, and foreign policy challenges facing the country due to the Modi government's misgovernance,” Kharge said.

New Delhi, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra on Sunday denied the allegation made by Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav that crores of rupees have been found missing from the offerings made at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Moreover, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) along with Hindu saints in Ayodhya criticised the SP Chief, accusing him of making false statements.

A statement from the Ram Temple trust said: "The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra undergoes internal audits from time to time. Representatives of the Trust and the State Bank of India participate in this process. The audit exercise continues for several days, and the same process is currently underway. So far, nothing noteworthy has come to light."

Talking to IANS, RSS National Executive Member Indresh Kumar said: "Akhilesh Yadav seems to have developed a habit of making false statements and leveling allegations. He has neither been able to provide evidence nor is he likely to do so."

According to Indresh Kumar, there are certain forces around the world that harbour hostility toward India.

"Likewise, there are some people within the country who are uncomfortable with the idea of India becoming an educated, progressive, and harmonious nation. I pray to Lord Ram to grant wisdom to Akhilesh Yadav," he said.

Sharpening the attack on Akhilesh Yadav, Mahant Sitaram Das Maharaj of Ayodhya's Saket Bhavan temple said: "Akhilesh Yadav has become afflicted with a distorted mindset. Why he has still not visited Ram Lalla for darshan? He has never made any contribution or donation. I want to ask why he never makes statements about mosques?"

The seer noted that Ayodhya is the greatest centre of faith for the entire Hindu community and therefore "raising questions over it is an attempt to misguide Hindus".

He defended the Ram Temple Trust, saying: "Transparency is maintained at the temple. Spreading such news is condemnable and unfortunate."

Echoing similar view, Arya Sant Varun Das Ji Maharaj accused Akhilesh Yadav of "harassing" Lord Ram devotees.

"Therefore, he (Akhilesh Yadav) has no right or authority to speak on matters related to the Ram Temple. As for the reports that are being circulated regarding the Ram Temple, from time to time some people spread such stories to create confusion and misinformation. Such narratives may emerge in view of the upcoming state elections," he told IANS.

However, Varun Das Maharaj said that an investigation should take place regarding the transparency of the system, while asserting that chances of such things taking place at the temple are less.

Meanwhile, SP leader Tej Narayan Pandey came in support of the party Chief's allegation.

"It is very unfortunate, and this news has been circulating in Ayodhya for the past two to three days that the faith of people, in the form of offerings in donation box, has been betrayed," he told IANS.

Pandey alleged: "The conduct of the Trust has been questionable from the beginning, whether it is related to land scams or now the alleged multi-crore scam involving the donation box."

Ahmedabad/New Delhi, June 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the global acceptance of yoga, recalling that 190 countries had supported India's proposal at the United Nations for the establishment of the 'International Yoga Day' nearly a decade ago.

Addressing athletes and delegates at the opening of the first World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad, PM Modi said the overwhelming backing for the proposal reflected the universal appeal of yoga and its role in promoting health and collective well-being.

"Nearly a decade ago, India took the proposal for the International Day of Yoga to the United Nations. We wanted to connect the ancient Indian tradition with the health and collective well-being of all humanity. At that time, 190 countries supported India's proposal," he added.

Prime Minister Modi said it was encouraging to see millions of people around the world incorporating yoga into their daily routines and embracing practices such as meditation and pranayama.

The Prime Minister's virtual remarks came as athletes from more than 60 countries gathered in Ahmedabad for the inaugural World Yogasana Championship, the first global competition dedicated to Yogasana as a competitive sporting discipline.

The five-day event has attracted more than 400 athletes from across Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and other regions.

Prime Minister Modi said every living tradition evolves over time and that Yogasana sports represented the next phase in yoga's development.

"Today, it gives great happiness to see that millions of people have made yoga a part of their daily routine. Meditation and pranayama are becoming a part of their lifestyle," he added.

The championship is being viewed as an important milestone in efforts to expand yoga's reach beyond wellness and establish Yogasana as a globally recognised competitive sport.

Organisers have introduced standardised judging criteria and competition formats aimed at creating an internationally accepted sporting framework.

He added that the participation of countries from different parts of the world demonstrated the growing international interest in yoga and reflected the success of efforts to connect the ancient Indian practice with contemporary global health priorities.

Dharamsala, June 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Thursday wrote to D.K. Shivakumar to congratulate him on being elected as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka.

"Karnataka is home to more than 30,000 Tibetans in exile," the Dalai Lama wrote, adding: "the largest concentration of the Tibetan diaspora in India. We are deeply grateful to the state and its people for their enduring friendship and generous support. It is a source of great pride that our principal centres of learning, rooted in the Nalanda tradition of ancient Indian wisdom, have found their home in Karnataka."

"I take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt appreciation to the state government and people of Karnataka for the warmth and hospitality they have extended to the Tibetan community settled there."

"I wish you (D.K. Shivakumar) every success in meeting the challenges that may lie ahead, and in honouring the hopes and aspirations of the people of Karnataka, particularly in making a real difference to the lives of its most vulnerable citizens," the Tibetan spiritual leader added.

The Dalai Lama concluded his letter by offering his prayers and good wishes.

The 14th Dalai Lama, author of book "The Voice for the Voiceless", aims to live for decades more.

Ahead of his 90th birthday in July last year, the Nobel Peace laureate had also confirmed that he will have a successor, putting to rest speculation over whether the 600-year-old institution will end when he dies.

The pontiff lives in exile in McLeodganj, a small and quaint hill station on the suburbs of Dharamsala in the northern Indian Himalayas.

He considers himself a son of India.

"All particles in my mind contain thoughts from Nalanda. And it's Indian 'dal' and 'chapati' that has built this body. I am mentally and physically a son of India," the Dalai Lama in his addresses is often quoted as saying.

"India and Tibet share a relationship of 'guru' (teacher) and 'chela' (disciple). When I see some part of my 'guru' being corrupt, as a 'chela' I feel ashamed."

Time and again, a demand from Indian Parliamentarians and the followers of Dalai Lama is being raised that India should confer its highest civilian award -- Bharat Ratna -- on him in recognition of his services to humanity.

The 14th Dalai Lama was born on July 6, 1935, in a small village in the remote Amdo region of Tibet.

The Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet in March 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, believes in a 'middle-way' approach, meaning greater autonomy for Tibet rather than outright Independence.

Chamoli, June 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Uttarakhand Police administration continues to serve pilgrims visiting Badrinath Dham with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of public service. Devotees arriving at the revered Himalayan shrine have praised the police personnel for their efficient arrangements, security measures, and assistance, which have helped ensure a smooth and comfortable pilgrimage experience.

Guided by the motto of 'Service, Security, and Convenience,' police personnel have been working tirelessly to provide a safe, orderly, and hassle-free 'darshan' experience for pilgrims. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to assisting devotees under all circumstances and ensuring that their spiritual journey remains pleasant and memorable.

Several pilgrims expressed their appreciation for the arrangements made at the shrine.

One devotee from Dubai said, “We have come here from Dubai, and the arrangements are excellent. The security measures and queue management are very well organised. Everything is being managed smoothly, and we truly appreciate the efforts of the police personnel who are working hard to keep everyone safe. It has been a wonderful experience. People from across India and around the world should visit Badrinath.”

Another pilgrim from Madhya Pradesh said, “We have come for the 'darshan' of Lord Badrinath, and the arrangements here are very good. Everything is well organised. We would like to thank the Uttarakhand administration for ensuring a comfortable experience for devotees.”

A third devotee shared his experience, saying, “My wife fell ill during our visit, but the security personnel extended immediate help and support. We are very satisfied with the facilities and assistance provided here.”

Meanwhile, the Char Dham Yatra continues to witness an unprecedented surge in pilgrim arrivals. The pilgrimage to Lord Badrinath has set new records this year, with the number of devotees crossing the eight-lakh mark within just 40 days of the temple opening.

In view of the growing footfall, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee has introduced a contribution-based system for protocol and VIP 'darshan'. A dedicated VIP office has been established at the Neelkanth Rest House near the local police station to streamline the process and reduce disruptions near the temple premises. Visitors seeking protocol 'darshan' will be required to obtain a pass before entering the temple.

According to the Temple Committee, the initiative has been introduced to minimize inconvenience to ordinary pilgrims while ensuring that the visits of dignitaries remain safe, organized, and time-bound. The decision follows recommendations received at the local level and has been implemented under the existing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee.

Under the revised arrangement, protocol slips will be issued by the district administration and the Temple Committee based on written recommendations received from the state government. A contribution of Rs 1,100 per person will be collected for protocol 'darshan', and an official receipt will be issued by the Temple Committee.

Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Badrinath Temple, also known as Badrinarayan Temple or Badri Vishal, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. Situated amid the majestic Himalayas along the banks of the Alaknanda River, the temple attracts lakhs of devotees every year. The shrine remains open to pilgrims from May to November.

Badrinath Dham holds immense religious significance as one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites and is also counted among the 108 Divya Desams revered by followers of Lord Vishnu. The temple is believed to have been re-established by the philosopher and saint Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century.

The temple houses a one-metre-tall black stone idol of Lord Vishnu, regarded as one of the eight Swayam Vyakta Kshetras, or self-manifested shrines. Its colourful architecture, spiritual atmosphere, and scenic surroundings add to its grandeur. The nearby Tapta Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to possess therapeutic properties, is another major attraction for pilgrims.

Visitors planning a trip between June and September can also witness cultural and religious events such as the Badri-Kedar Festival and Mata Murti Ka Mela, which further enhance the spiritual significance of this sacred Himalayan destination.

Riyadh, June 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan's centuries-old fortress, once a strategic stronghold guarding key routes into the Indian subcontinent, is slowly deteriorating due to neglect, encroachment, and environmental damage despite being protected under the country’s Antiquities Act of 1975, a report has stated.

"Nearly 40 kilometres from Islamabad, on a rugged plateau encircled by the Soan River and the hills of the Potohar region, the ruins of a once-formidable fortress rise above the landscape. Believed to date back to the Hindu Shahi period before later expansion by the Gakhar tribe between the 10th and 15th centuries, the fort once guarded key routes leading into the Indian subcontinent and is regarded by historians as one of the region’s most significant surviving heritage sites,” a report in Saudi Arabia-based English daily 'Arab News' detailed.

According to the report, overgrown vegetation has engulfed parts of the fortification walls and gates, while livestock are seen moving through the ruins. It added that the site was marred by plastic waste and signs of human activity, with some residents establishing small farms near the outer walls.

“Wild climate effects continue to weaken the structure. It took nearly a year just to clear plant growth from the fortification walls during the survey work in 2023,” Arab News quoted Pakistan’s Deputy Director of the Department of Archaeology Abdul Ghafoor Lone as saying.

Ghafoor, who has closely documented the site, said that nearly 20 to 30 percent of the structure has been damaged. Although he described the fort as strong enough to endure for centuries, he warned that persistent delays in conservation efforts could accelerate its deterioration.

The report noted that currently around 25 families continue to reside inside the fort vicinity, including members of the Gakhar community who trace their lineage to the historic tribe linked to the site.

For many residents, it said, the fort represents not just a historical monument but a living symbol of their family identity and lineage.

“This is our identity and recognition,” Arab News quoted 27-year-old Subhan Kiyani as saying, whose family has resided in the area for generations.

Standing amid damaged walls and decaying structures, Kiyani highlighted the sense of isolation faced by those residing inside the settlement.

“There is no school here, no hospital, and no proper roads,” he said, pointing toward the Soan River where residents remain without a permanent bridge connection.

Warning that continued delays could lead to irreversible losses, a Pakistani official was quoted by Arab News as saying, "If restoration continues to be delayed, we may lose one of the region’s most important surviving heritage sites.”

New Delhi: The exposition of the sacred relics of the Buddha is far more than a religious ceremony or a cultural event. It is a civilisational act that reconnects humanity with one of the greatest spiritual traditions born on Indian soil. For millions of Buddhists across the world, relics are not archaeological objects preserved in museums. They are living embodiments of Lord Buddha’s presence, teachings and compassion. Their exposition inspires devotion, reflection and a renewed commitment to the values of peace, wisdom and ethical living.

In recent years, India has revived global awareness of Buddha Dhamma through renewed engagement with Buddhist nations, development of pilgrimage circuits, international Buddhist conferences and the exposition of sacred relics abroad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that "India has given Buddha to the world, not war" has come to symbolise India’s civilisational approach to international engagement rooted in dialogue, peace and coexistence.

At a time when the world faces conflict, social fragmentation and rising extremism, the message carried by the Buddha’s relics has acquired even greater relevance.

Myanmar occupies a special place in India’s Buddhist outreach.

The recent visit of Myanmar’s President to India U Min Aung Hlaing to India demonstrated the depth of this spiritual relationship. Significantly, he began his visit not with political engagements but with prayers and meditation under the sacred Bodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Temple. He also visited the Burmese Monastery, underlining the enduring spiritual bonds that connect Myanmar with the land where the Buddha attained enlightenment.

His participation in the major relic exhibition inaugurated in New Delhi was equally important. Together, Bodh Gaya, the monastery visit and the exposition of the Piprahwa relics provided a practical model for India’s future engagement with Buddhist countries. They demonstrated how faith, culture, diplomacy and people to people relations can reinforce one another.

For Myanmar, relics associated with the Buddha occupy a place of extraordinary reverence. Portions of relics from the Piprahwa discovery were historically distributed to Buddhist countries including Burma, now Myanmar, where they became objects of national devotion and spiritual identity. Even today, Myanmar remains one of the strongest custodians of the Theravada Buddhist tradition that originated in India.

Among all archaeological discoveries linked to Buddhism, few possess greater significance than the relics discovered at Piprahwa Stupa.

Excavations first carried out by William Claxton Peppé in 1898 revealed reliquary caskets containing bone fragments, ashes, crystals, pearls and ornaments associated with the Buddha. Later excavations by K. M. Srivastava further strengthened the evidence that Piprahwa preserved one of the earliest relic deposits connected with the historical Buddha.

For Buddhist communities, these relics provide a direct connection with the Buddha and the earliest history of Buddhism.

More importantly, they remind the world that while Buddhism became a shared heritage of Asia, its origins remain firmly rooted in India. The Buddha walked on Indian soil. His teachings emerged from Indian civilisation. The earliest relics were enshrined in India. The great centres of Buddhist learning flourished in India.

India’s greatest strength does not lie merely in possessing relics or sacred sites.

Its true strength lies in being the birthplace of Buddha Dhamma itself.

It was from India that monks, scholars and travellers carried Buddhist philosophy across mountains, deserts and oceans. Centres such as Nalanda Mahavihara, Vikramashila University and Takshashila shaped intellectual traditions across Asia. Indian scholars transmitted not only religion but also philosophy, ethics, language, art, architecture and systems of knowledge.

This remains India’s most enduring source of influence.

Relics inspire devotion. Teachings create transformation.

Therefore, every relic exposition should be accompanied by Dhamma discourses, scholarly exchanges, publications, university collaborations and cultural programmes that explain the philosophical foundations of Buddhism to contemporary audiences.

The strategic relevance of Buddhist heritage should not be underestimated.

Across Asia, Buddhist identity continues to influence public consciousness and cultural memory. In this environment, authenticity matters. The Piprahwa relics carry a moral and spiritual authority that cannot be replicated because of their direct association with the Buddha and their connection to the land of his birth and teachings.

For countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Japan and Vietnam, engagement with India through Buddhist heritage creates a unique foundation of trust and goodwill that extends beyond conventional diplomacy.

India should move beyond viewing relic expositions as occasional events.

A sustained Buddhist engagement strategy is needed.

Indian ambassadors in Buddhist countries should actively promote awareness of India’s sacred Buddhist heritage, pilgrimage circuits, universities and philosophical traditions. Missions abroad should regularly organise Dhamma talks, academic seminars, monastic exchanges, youth interactions, cultural festivals and heritage exhibitions throughout the year.

This effort should not depend solely on government run Buddhist organisations.

Universities, monasteries, scholars, think tanks, cultural institutions, private foundations and civil society groups must become active participants. A broader ecosystem will ensure continuity and innovation while expanding India’s reach among Buddhist communities worldwide.

Myanmar provides an excellent template. The President’s pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya, his visit to the Burmese Monastery and his participation in the relic exposition together demonstrated how spiritual diplomacy can strengthen bilateral relations while respecting religious sentiment.

The Piprahwa relics are more than a sacred inheritance. They are a reminder of India’s enduring civilisational responsibility as the birthplace and principal custodian of Buddha Dhamma.

For Myanmar, they represent a profound spiritual bridge connecting generations of devotees with the land of the Buddha.

For India, they offer an opportunity to strengthen cultural and strategic partnerships across the Buddhist world.

The challenge now is to maintain the momentum. Buddhist diplomacy must become a regular and institutionalised feature of India’s international outreach. If pursued with sensitivity, scholarship and reverence, it can deepen long term relationships, strengthen India’s civilisational standing and carry forward a message of peace and compassion that remains as relevant today as it was 25 centuries ago.

Bhopal, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a heartfelt tribute to the celebrated Urdu poet Bashir Badr, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced the establishment of a literary award in his name to preserve and promote his rich literary legacy.

The announcement was made by Culture Minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi during his visit to the poet’s residence in Bhopal’s Eidgah Colony on Tuesday. Lodhi met with Badr’s grieving family members, including his wife Rahat Badr and son Tayyab Badr, to offer condolences and discuss the poet’s invaluable contribution to Urdu literature.

“Following the demise of the celebrated poet and Padma Shri recipient, Bashir Badr, I visited his residence in Bhopal today to express my condolences, view memorabilia associated with him, and offer solace to his family members,” Lodhi wrote on his X handle.

He further added, “Following discussions with the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Ji, the Government of Madhya Pradesh will institute a literary honour in the name of Bashir Badr.”

The proposed award aims to recognise outstanding contributions in the field of Urdu poetry and literature, keeping the poet’s legacy alive for future generations.

During the visit, Minister Lodhi engaged in a detailed conversation with the family about Bashir Badr’s life and his extraordinary literary journey. He observed that Badr’s poetry was not limited to mere words but deeply reflected human emotions, love, compassion, and relationships.

New Delhi, June 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has said that India's strength lies not only in its economic growth and technological advancement but equally in its civilisational consciousness, cultural traditions and moral foundations.

Speaking at the release of book "Pratham Sindhu Kumbh: Adhyatmik Evam Sanskritik Mahatva" on Sunday at Delhi University's Shankar Lal Concert Hall, Speaker Gupta highlighted that preserving the cultural traditions is essential to nation-building.

The programme was organised by the Sindhu Darshan Committee and was attended by eminent spiritual leaders, scholars, academicians and members of civil society, including Indresh Kumar and Dayalu Ji Maharaj (Himalaya Parivar (Delhi Province) President).

Describing the occasion as more than the release of a book, Speaker Gupta said it was an opportunity to reconnect with India's civilisational heritage, cultural consciousness and national spirit.

Congratulating the Sindhu Darshan Committee for the initiative, he appreciated the contributions of Indresh Kumar and Dayalu Ji Maharaj in bringing to the public a work that reflects the spiritual and cultural significance of the Sindhu tradition.

"Highlighting the historical importance of the Sindhu, the Speaker said the river is not merely a geographical entity but a foundation of India's civilisational memory and cultural identity," a statement said.

Speaker Gupta noted that the historical roots of terms such as Hind, Hindu and Hindustan are closely associated with the Sindhu and said that the river represents a continuing civilisational journey that has shaped India for millennia.

According to him, the Sindhu remains a powerful symbol of cultural continuity, national consciousness and shared heritage.

Emphasising the idea of unity amid diversity, the Speaker said that while India is home to a remarkable diversity of languages, customs and traditions, its cultural spirit remains one.

He added that this civilisational unity has long been the strength of the nation and that the Sindhu embodies the sense of cultural oneness that binds Indians together across regions and generations.

Speaker Gupta said that in an era of rapid technological advancement and social transformation, younger generations often find themselves increasingly distanced from their cultural roots and historical traditions.

He stressed that books and cultural initiatives documenting India's civilisational heritage play an important role in preserving historical memory, strengthening cultural awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of the values and traditions that have shaped the nation.

Referring to the First Sindhu Kumbh, Speaker Gupta described the initiative as a significant effort to reconnect contemporary society with traditions of spiritual reflection, cultural dialogue and social harmony.

He noted that the Kumbh has historically served not merely as a religious congregation but as a platform for cultural exchange and collective learning.

Shanghai, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Consul General of India in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, inaugurated two curtain raiser events in Shanghai on Sunday, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for Yoga and Indian wellness traditions across Eastern China, ahead of the 12th International Yoga Day.

The first event was a special Yoga camp organised for Bloodline, East Asia's largest volunteer-driven blood donation programme.

While addressing the participants, Mathur spoke about the importance of Yoga and AYUSH-based wellness practices in promoting preventive healthcare, holistic well-being, and healthy lifestyles.

He said that yoga's emphasis on physical fitness, mental resilience, and community service resonates strongly with the spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility embodied by Bloodline.

Later, Pratik Mathur delivered the opening remarks at the inauguration of the Annual East China Indian Community Badminton Competition.

He expressed gratitude to the Indian community for their active participation in promoting awareness and understanding of Yoga throughout the region.

He said that Eastern China has emerged as an important centre for Yoga practice, with increasing participation from people of various nationalities and backgrounds.

He noted that nearly 500 participants attended the two events.

He stressed that Yoga in the present time represents a shared cultural heritage of humanity, transcending national and cultural boundaries and contributes to the global pursuit of good health and well-being.

The events were organised as part of the Consulate's ongoing outreach activities leading up to the International Yoga Day 2026 celebrations on June 21, which are expected to witness participation from the Indian community, Chinese friends of India, yoga practitioners, students, and wellness enthusiasts across Eastern China.

This year marks the 12th International Day of Yoga with the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", which emphasises the importance of yoga for all ages. Yoga can be a valuable practice for healthy aging as it supports many of the abilities that help people stay active, independent, and engaged as they grow older, according to the official statement released by the United Nations (UN).

By combining gentle movement, stretching, breathing exercises, and mindfulness, yoga can help improve balance, flexibility, strength, and mobility and support mental well-being and stress management.

As yoga can be adapted to different fitness levels and health conditions, it offers an accessible way for many older adults to maintain their physical and emotional health.

These benefits support several goals of the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), including promoting independence, reducing fall risk, enhancing quality of life, and encouraging person-centered approaches to health and well-being.

Rudraprayag, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Kedarnath Yatra resumed on Sunday after a brief suspension due to heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand.

Movement of pilgrims restarted as the weather cleared up and operations were restored on the Kedarnath trekking route after rainfall ceased. However, if the weather deteriorates later in the day, the pilgrims will again be asked to take shelter at the nearest safe locations till the conditions improve.

The Kedarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended earlier in the day, after the weather department issued an orange alert amid extreme rainfall.

Speaking to reporters, Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) Vishal Mishra had said the region experienced overnight rainfall. "We have been informed by the weather department that an orange alert will be in place today, and a yellow alert has been announced for tomorrow due to the prevailing weather conditions."

"We have requested people who are currently enroute to the pilgrimage sites to take shelter at the nearest holding areas and safe locations. Our teams are monitoring the situation from the control room as well as on the field," he said.

"All our efforts are to ensure that no pilgrim faces any adverse situation," he said.

The officials deployed in Sonprayag, Gaurikund, and other landslide-prone sectors were instructed not to allow any pilgrim to proceed further until weather conditions improve. However, as soon as the weather conditions improved, the pilgrims who had halted at safe locations were sent forward.

Meanwhile, the helicopter services have been temporarily stalled due to heavy rainfall and fog.

Due to the heavy rainfall in the state for the past two days, Mishra noted that holding areas have been made in the plain areas like Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar, where the devotees will be provided all basic amenities.

Mishra had also noted that feedback from the pilgrims has been taken for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

"Some issues have come to light. We are trying our best to facilitate the pilgrims so that they can complete the 'darshan' as quickly as possible," he had said.

He emphasised that the administration is also focusing on crowd management on the temple premises. "We are ensuring that the token system is followed at the temple," he said.

"We have got to know that some anti-social elements are creating trouble, including robbing pilgrims. Police have been informed, and they are taking action," he added.

He added that inspections are being conducted, and many of the 'ponywalas' have also been backlisted who are not following the norms.

"We are making arrangements for pilgrims to sit and also creating holding areas for those who are coming via helicopters," the DM said.

New Delhi, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke about the return of rare Chola-era copper plates to India from the Netherlands, describing the development as a "moment of immense pride" for the country.

He also emphasised the importance of preserving India's rich heritage and encouraged young people to cultivate an interest in astronomy and scientific exploration.

Speaking during the 134th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister recalled his recent visit to the Netherlands and said, "In a special ceremony held in the Netherlands, ancient copper plates from the Chola period were returned to India. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands was also present at the event. I have been receiving continuous messages from India and abroad regarding these copper plates. People are sharing joy and expressing pride. The Tamil community around the world is also particularly enthusiastic about this."

The Prime Minister noted that the return of the artefacts had generated widespread interest among people both in India and abroad, prompting curiosity about their historical significance.

"Hence, today I would like to share some information related to them. These include 21 large and 3 small copper plates. They primarily relate to King Rajendra Chola I, fulfilling a vow made by his father, King Rajaraja Chola. They mention the donation of the village of Anaimangalam to a Buddhist monastery," he said.

PM Modi explained that the inscriptions offer valuable insights into the achievements and influence of the Chola dynasty, particularly its maritime strength and international engagements.

"These copper plates also describe the achievements of the Chola dynasty. They reveal how formidable the Chola Empire's maritime power was. They also provide information about their relations with Southeast Asian countries. All of us are very proud of the Chola Empire's rich history and culture," he said.

The Prime Minister stated that the Union government continues to make sustained efforts to preserve and protect India's invaluable historical heritage and cultural legacy.

Referring to another significant archaeological discovery, he said that three rare copper plates had recently been unearthed in Malhar, Chhattisgarh, under the Gyan Bharatam Abhiyan.

Providing further details, PM Modi said the newly discovered inscriptions are believed to belong to the period of Maharishi Balarjun of the Panduvanshi dynasty.

"Experts believe that these inscriptions date back to the sixth-seventh centuries, meaning fourteen hundred to fifteen hundred years old. These copper plates are written in ancient Brahmi script and the Pali language. They provide important information about the governance, religion and culture of that time," he said.

Shifting his focus to India's long-standing fascination with astronomy, the Prime Minister observed that interest in the study of the skies has been deeply rooted in Indian civilisation for centuries.

"We Indians have always had a special fascination for astronomy. Centuries-old observatories still exist in our country. Amazing mathematical discoveries have been made here. Be it navigation, the almanack, or our festivals, all of these are related to the sky and the stars," he said.

PM Modi noted that astronomy continues to inspire curiosity among people, particularly the younger generation, and has encouraged exploration and scientific thinking across the country.

"You, too, must have noticed that astronomy clubs are becoming increasingly popular across the country. Their activities are visible from big cities to small towns, from schools to parks," he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the work being carried out by several organisations that are promoting astronomy and scientific learning among young people. Referring to the Bangalore Astronomical Society, he said observational sessions are regularly conducted, and efforts are being made to popularise astronomy in rural areas.

"This organisation has also launched a mission to popularise astronomy in rural areas. A team called 'Khagol Mandal' has started a very innovative 30-hour course," he said.

PM Modi also mentioned the activities of Astro Keralam, which organises night observation camps and workshops to encourage learning through practical experience.

He further referred to the work of the Big Bang Astronomy Club, which has organised astronomy-related events in locations ranging from the Gir forests to the Rann of Kutch.

The Prime Minister also praised the efforts of Jyotirvidya Parisanstha, describing it as one of the country's oldest astronomy institutions that provides observation facilities as well as access to books and telescopes.

In addition, he highlighted the contribution of ISAAC, a nationwide student-led network that connects astronomy and astrophysics clubs across India.

Concluding his remarks, PM Modi said, "It is very important to take out time for your hobby and constantly learn something new. I would urge the youth to join an astronomy club and visit a planetarium during these holidays."

New Delhi, May 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Philosopher and author Acharya Prashant addressed a packed audience at the University of Cambridge on Friday in a fireside chat at the historic Cambridge Union, arguing that humanity's gravest crises, climate change foremost among them, cannot be resolved by technology or policy alone because their root lies not in the external world but in the unexamined inner life of human beings. The audience response was overwhelming; seats were fully booked even before the day arrived.

The Cambridge Union, which has hosted figures including Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Stephen Hawking, served as the venue for what organisers described as the summit's marquee session. Among an exceptional roster of distinguished speakers drawn from politics, diplomacy, and industry, Acharya Prashant was the sole philosopher on the programme and was accorded the longest speaking slot of the day, a distinction that underscored the organisers' intent to place questions of inner life at the centre of a gathering otherwise defined by external power.

The event was hosted by the Cambridge India Business Dialogue and conducted by Professor Jaideep Prabhu, Director of the Centre for India and Global Business at Cambridge Judge Business School, one of the world's leading institutions for business and global affairs research, who led the fireside conversation and posed questions to Acharya Prashant throughout. The theme of the conversation was 'Indian Contemplative Traditions as Applied to Climate Change, Inequality, and Global Responsibility'. The gathering included Kanishka Narayan, Minister for AI and Online Safety and Member of Parliament for Vale of Glamorgan; Lord Karan Bilimoria; India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Periasamy Kumaran; and Nyrika Holkar of the Godrej Enterprises Group. Notably, Acharya Prashant was the only speaker at the summit whose session was moderated by a University of Cambridge professor.

The IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, who founded the PrashantAdvait Foundation, told the gathering that humanity had never been more prosperous or more powerful, and had also never been more unable to stop. "Outwardly, we are more advanced than at any point in history," he said. "Inwardly, we are still cavemen."

The argument he developed was precise. Human desire, he said, is not a technical problem and cannot be resolved by technical means. Formal education, across schools, universities, and institutions, trains people in skills and external knowledge but does not address the education of the self. The questions that most determine how knowledge will be used are almost never asked: what is desire, where do our wants come from, why do we want what we want, and does the self exist as we imagine it? He was unambiguous that he deeply respects science and that technology is necessary and valuable. The problem, he said, is not science itself but the unexamined self that directs it. Every tool humanity has built has been turned toward feeding a psychological emptiness that remains unexamined and therefore insatiable. Even if the entire planet were to be exploited in this effort, he said, the inner hunger would remain.

On climate specifically, he argued that the crisis is being persistently misread. Efficiency, he observed, has never historically reduced consumption. Steam engines improved; electricity use multiplied many times over. Electric vehicles are now positioned as the answer, yet they require cobalt and lithium to be mined, forests to be cleared, and ecosystems to be disturbed. Leaders are shaped not only by voters but by consumers, and the consumer is the same self that no policy has yet touched. As long as that self remains unchanged, workarounds will be found for every measure that inconveniences the habit of wanting more.

When Professor Prabhu raised the question of whether there was time left for the kind of transformation being described, Acharya Prashant was unequivocal. Time, he said, is needed only when there is a distance to cover or an additional task to accomplish. The climate crisis does not require humanity to do something additional. It requires humanity to cease what it is already doing. "Acceleration takes time", he said. "How much time does it take to stop where you are?" Successive global climate conferences have failed, he argued, for one shared reason: each has assumed the solution demands more action, when the crisis is itself the product of too much.

Responding to a question on bridging Eastern and Western, masculine and feminine, and economic worldviews, he turned the premise around. Who exactly crosses the bridge, he asked, and does the crossing change anything? A person can walk to the other side and remain inwardly identical. Inner honesty, he said, is the only thing that actually matters in any such crossing. He drew on the Upanishadic distinction between 'Vidya' and 'Avidya', outward knowledge and inward wisdom, calling it the oldest available diagnosis of the imbalance modern civilisation has only deepened. Humanity has progressed immensely in external knowledge, he said, but inward understanding remains almost entirely absent.

Asked by Professor Prabhu why he had walked away from a corporate path after IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad, he described the decision as a gradual recognition rather than a sudden break. The problems he was positioned to address in technology and management were downstream of something far more fundamental that society was barely registering. Many who competed alongside him, people of exceptional talent and ability, went on to deploy that talent in ways that accelerated the very crises now demanding urgent solutions. The upstream problem, he said, is one of human interiority.

That recognition shapes the work he now runs. Through the PrashantAdvait Foundation, Acharya Prashant conducts an online night school every day of the month, in which students examine their lives through the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist teachings, the writings of Lao Tzu, and existential literature and plays. Students take examinations; the programme reaches across more than 100 countries. The purpose, he said, is not scholarship. "We are students of the self," he told the gathering. "These works are not the destination. They bring us back to ourselves."

Speaking to the media after the session, Acharya Prashant sharpened the message he had carried into the Cambridge Union. In the last two hundred years, he said, humanity has successfully tried science, technology, economic growth, and exploration, and has made enormous advances in all of them. Yet it continues to move toward war, ecological crisis, and inner dissatisfaction. The one thing it has not seriously attempted is “mass education of the self”. The questions that remain unasked at scale -- who am I, what do I truly want, will accumulation ever satisfy me -- are precisely the questions whose answers would change everything. The solution, he said, lies in inner honesty, love, and right intent. Outer progress without inner understanding is not progress; it is acceleration toward a cliff.

On what Indian contemplative traditions offer to economics and business specifically, he was direct. The problem, he said, is not the system. Science, economics, business, and medicine all ultimately aim at human welfare. But human welfare cannot be achieved without understanding the human being at the centre of every system. If the chooser is confused, the system becomes destructive. If the inventor lacksƒp wisdom, the invention causes harm.

Technology and policy are only as good as the inner clarity of the person deploying them. The root of global problems, he said, is inward. Better systems require wiser human beings.

On whether technology can solve climate change and the intensifying heat crisis, his answer was unambiguous. Climate change, he said, is not only a carbon problem but a human psychology problem. The fire producing the emissions is human ego, greed, and unexamined desire. Without inner change, technology will not solve the crisis. It will accelerate it.

Acharya Prashant is a philosopher and author of multiple bestselling books who is currently on a UK tour. After Cambridge, he will be speaking at Oxford, the London School of Economics, King's College London, and other prominent institutions. Drawing on the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, Madhyamika Buddhism, and global wisdom literature, his work reaches over 100 million online followers across more than 100 countries.

Ayodhya, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A row erupted after American-based historian Audrey Truschke challenged a social media post by the Ministry of Culture, which described a Harappan Pashupati seal as "Shiva-Pashupati". Truschke claimed that the figure is that of an Eurasian deity "lord of animals".

Criticising the historian's claim, Hindu seers in Ayodhya, on Saturday, alleged that it is an attempt to tarnish India's history and culture and is "completely unacceptable".

Speaking to IANS, Mahant Sitaram Das Maharaj of Ayodhya's Saket Bhavan temple condemned the statement made by the US-based historian. He said: "If international agencies will try to harm the history of India, it will not be tolerated at any cost."

Asserting that the Harrapan seal undoubtedly represents "Shiva-Pashupati", Mahant Sitaram Das added that the seal is considered as a symbol of India's Sanatan tradition.

Referring to Audrey Truschke, the Hindu seer said: "She does not have any knowledge about the history of India's Sanatan tradition."

"Foreigners don't have any knowledge about India's culture, civilisation and lifestyle of people here. A conspiracy is being hatched to tarnish India's Sanantan culture," Mahant Sitaram Das alleged.

However, he was optimistic that the truth regarding the Harrapan-era seal will prevail.

Mahant Deveshacharya Ji Maharaj said: "America is angry with India. The mental balance of the leaders and people of America has been disturbed. It is trying to run a wrong propaganda to demean India's image and to tarnish the culture and traditions here."

"This is absolutely not acceptable; we all oppose it," he added.

He also asserted that no country can run a propaganda to insult another nation.

The Hindu saint urged the America-based historian to apologise and remove the post from her X account.

Arya Sant Varun Das Ji Maharaj echoed: "This is completely misleading and negative. It is the work of foreigners to somehow create confusion."

In a post on X on May 27, The Ministry of Culture had said: "Discovered at Mohenjo-daro in undivided India this steatite seal, about 4,300-year-old, shows a seated figure in yogic posture (widely seen as Shiva-Pashupati) seated in Mulabandhasana, surrounded by animals."

"While ancient sites may lie across modern borders, India remains the living custodian of this heritage. The yogic posture, Shaivite symbolism, and spiritual ethos seen in the Pashupati Seal continue to thrive in India's temples, daily worship of Shiva, yogic traditions, and cultural life even today," the post added.

It also said: "From the Vedic period to contemporary Bharat, this civilisational thread has remained alive and unbroken -- deeply embedded in our philosophy, rituals, and collective consciousness."

Countering India's post, Audrey Truschke mentioned: "This isn't Shiva. It's more likely adapted from proto-Elamite iconography, showing an Eurasian deity 'lord of animals'."

"Indian history is amazing, wonderful, and fantastic -- It's well worth getting it right," she added in a post on X.

Srinagar, May 30(SocialNews.XYZ) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha said on Saturday that those participating in the two-day literary festival in Srinagar will feel the cultural, intellectual and literary depth of Kashmir.

L-G Sinha inaugurated the two-day literary festival at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

He said that writers, poets and scholars play a greater role in shaping civilisations than institutions.

L-G Sinha welcomed all guests who had arrived in Jammu and Kashmir from outside the Union Territory and said he was confident they would "feel and witness" the cultural, intellectual and literary depth of Kashmir during the festival being held on May 30 and 31.

"I welcome everyone who has come to Jammu and Kashmir from outside. I am confident that during these two days, you will not only see but also deeply feel the literary, cultural and intellectual soul of this land."

He said that India's literary world has still not fully realised or expressed the strength of the country's civilisational knowledge and heritage.

"India's literary world is still like Lord Hanuman Ji before realising his own strength. Just as Lord Hanuman was reminded of his powers before crossing Lanka, our literary and intellectual community, too, must realise the depth of India's civilisational strength and present it to the world," he added.

Calling writers immortal through their creations, L-G Sinha said that great poets, authors and creators never die because their works continue to inspire generations.

"Great poets, writers and creative minds become immortal through their knowledge and work."

"The human body is mortal, but creation becomes the symbol of immortality," the L-G added.

The Lieutenant Governor said he had witnessed many occasions where institutions spent crores of rupees but failed to create the impact that a single novel or literary work could create.

"I have seen institutions spending crores of rupees, yet failing to create the impact that one novel can create in society. Literature has the power to influence minds and generations in ways institutions often cannot," he added.

Referring to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech from the ramparts of Red Fort in New Delhi, L-G Sinha said the time had come to completely erase the colonial mindset and reclaim India's true historical narrative.

"Some time ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from the Red Fort, said that the time has come to remove the colonial mindset. We must ensure that our history is not presented in a distorted manner," he added.

The Lieutenant Governor said scholars and researchers must work towards taking authentic history to local readers and future generations.

"We must repeatedly remind the world that when many parts of the world were struggling in darkness, India was a major centre of science, culture and knowledge," he added.

He reminded that India laid the foundations of mathematics, science and astronomy that later influenced the Western world.

"India gave the world the foundations of mathematics, science and astronomy. Several civilisations learned from India's knowledge systems," he said.

The Lieutenant Governor added that one of the greatest failures of modern India was that it forgot to write and preserve its own history properly.

"In modern times, India forgot to write its own history correctly. Slowly, narratives emerged claiming that science and knowledge came to us from Persia or the Mughals," he said.

He added that many historical accounts deliberately ignored India's ancient scientific and intellectual contributions despite references available in Persian and Arab literature from the eighth century onwards.

"There are historical writings where India's contributions were not properly acknowledged. But references in Persian and Arab texts clearly show that Indian knowledge systems in medicine, mathematics and astronomy influenced many civilisations," he said.

L-G Sinha added that several researchers and scholars across the world had acknowledged India's contribution to medicine, mathematics and scientific thought.

"Indian medicinal systems, mathematics and scientific learning influenced scholars and civilisations across continents," he said.

Referring to Europe's intellectual awakening, the Lieutenant Governor added that many Western scholars themselves accepted that India possessed deep-rooted traditions of knowledge and scientific understanding.

"I want to say that the roots of our knowledge systems have always been extremely deep. Colonialism damaged confidence in our own civilisation and knowledge traditions," L-G Sinha said.

The Lieutenant Governor added that whenever discussions on history and science take place, names like Newton and the Theory of gravity are remembered, but India's scientific capabilities and maritime strength existed centuries earlier.

"People often mention Newton and the theory of gravity, but India, too, possessed deep scientific understanding and advanced capabilities long before many Western developments," he said.

Referring to Alexander and King Porus, L-G Sinha added that ancient India was globally respected for its steel and metallurgy.

"There are historical references showing that Alexander gifted special Indian steel associated with King Porus, which reflected the advanced metallurgical traditions of ancient India," he said.

The Lieutenant Governor added that not only India's past but also its present achievements must reach the people.

"We must take not just our past but also our present achievements to the people. India has risen strongly and today we have become the world's fourth-largest economy," he said.

He added that the country would achieve the dream of a 'Developed India' by 2047.

"By 2047, India will achieve the vision of a developed nation. A new emotional awakening has started in society and people are increasingly understanding their responsibility towards the nation," he said.

The Lieutenant Governor said writers and thinkers stand above nations in shaping public consciousness and civilisation.

"Always remember that writers are greater than nations because they shape the thinking and direction of societies and civilisations," he added.

Rejecting the notion that reading culture was declining, L-G Sinha said the world today was reading more than ever before.

"Today the world is not reading less, but more. Research in 2025 suggested that more than 40 lakh books were published globally," he added.

He said that digital platforms and open-access communication had created opportunities to build positive narratives globally.

"The doors have opened. We must use these platforms and mediums to build strong and positive narratives," he added.

Gaya, May 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Gaya in Bihar on Saturday as he kicked off his five-day visit to India. He then offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya.

Taking to X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "Strengthening civilisational links with our neighbour! A warm welcome to President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on his arrival in Bodh Gaya. He was received by Hon'ble Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) at the airport."

"The visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical and people-to-people ties that bind our two countries and the depth of our ongoing cooperation," the Ministry added.

The Myanmar President will also visit the Mahabodhi Ekta Dhamma Monastery later in the day.

During his visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1 on further strengthening the ties between the two countries, according to the MEA.

This is President U Min Aung Hlaing's first visit to India after assuming office.

U Min Aung Hlaing will also participate in a business forum in India. For his visit, he will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several cabinet ministers, senior officials and business leaders.

On June 2, he will also travel to Mumbai for business and industry interactions and site visits.

"Myanmar lies at the confluence of India's Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. The official visit of President U Min Aung Hlaing to India is expected to further strengthen and deepen the multi-faceted relations between the two countries," the MEA said in a statement.

In April, Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh visited Myanmar to attend the swearing-in ceremony of U Min Aung Hlaing as Myanmar's President.

On April 10, Singh called on U Min Aung Hlaing and gave him a letter of felicitations from PM Modi on his assumption of office as Myanmar's President. He expressed India's commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation under its 'Neighbourhood First', 'Act East' and 'MAHASAGAR' policies and extending developmental assistance for the benefit of the people of Myanmar.

U Min Aung Hlaing was elected Myanmar's President on April 3. In the days leading up to his election, he stepped down as Commander-in-Chief after having ruled the country since 2021 following a military coup.

Padma Bhushan awardee Sadhvi Ritambhara said that the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is one of the biggest achievements of the PM Modi-led government. She also said that many important works have been completed during his tenure. She also stressed the need for more efforts to ensure cow protection.

“We want cow slaughter to be banned and Gau Mata to be declared the Rashtra Mata,” she asserted. “The country has moved forward a lot in the last 12 years,” added Sadhvi Ritambhara.

New Delhi/Dhar, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) The centuries-old Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar is fast emerging as the centrepiece of a larger cultural and political campaign, with both the Centre and the state government moving in tandem to seek the return of the revered Vagdevi idol from London and transform the historic site into a major cultural landmark.

The latest momentum came on Wednesday when Dhar-Mhow MP and Union Minister of State Savitri Thakur met Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi and formally urged the Centre to facilitate the return of the idol of Goddess Vagdevi, currently housed in a museum in London, for reinstallation at Bhojshala.

The meeting marks a fresh phase in the decades-long dispute surrounding Bhojshala -- a site revered by Hindus as a temple of Goddess Saraswati and used by Muslims as the Kamal Maula Mosque under a shared-access arrangement enforced since 2003.

During the meeting, Shekhawat said he would travel to Dhar in June to review proposals aimed at developing the site into a major religious and cultural tourism hub.

Earlier on Monday (May 25), Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Bhojshala and, after offering prayers at the site, announced two ambitious projects -- a grand ‘Saraswati Lok’ temple corridor and a Raja Bhoj Research Institute in Dhar.

The renewed political focus follows the May 15 order of the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which recognised Bhojshala as a temple dedicated to Vagdevi, or Goddess Saraswati.

The ruling altered the long-standing administrative framework around the disputed complex and triggered a series of swift developments.

Soon after the verdict, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) revised its 2003 arrangement and allowed Hindus to offer prayers daily at the temple premises.

Under its 2003 order, the ASI had allowed Hindus to worship at the temple every Tuesday and Muslims to offer namaz at the mosque within the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex every Friday, amid competing claims over the site by both communities.

The Muslim community, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the High Court verdict and filed petitions before the Supreme Court challenging the order.

Meanwhile, the Bhojshala premises remained under tight security by the local police to prevent any possible tension between members of the two communities.

Bhopal, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Renowned Urdu poet Dr Bashir Badr, known for his expressive and evocative 'shayri' passed away in Bhopal on Thursday afternoon, leaving behind a rich literary legacy that spanned decades. He was 91.

He breathed his last at around 12 noon at the age of 91.

According to family members, Badr had been suffering from dementia for a long time, a condition that gradually eroded his memory and left him unable to recognise even close acquaintances. His health had been deteriorating steadily in recent months, and despite medical care, his condition worsened until his demise.

The funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised, though family sources indicated that the last rites may be performed later on Thursday only.

His passing marks the end of an era in Urdu poetry, as Badr was celebrated for his evocative verses, like ""Ujale apni yaadon ke hamare saath rahne do/Na jaane kis gali mein zindagi ki shaam ho jaaye", or "Kai sitaron ko main jaanta hoon bachapan se/Kahin bhi jaaun mere saath saath chalte hai", or "Sar jhukaoge to patthar devtaa ho jaayega/Itna mat chaaho use wo bewafa ho jaayegaa", "Khuda ham ko aisi khudaai na de/Ki apne siva kuch dikhai na de", Kuch to majbooriyan rahi hongi/Yun koi bewafa nahi hota", and many more, that captured the complexities of love, longing, and human emotion with unmatched simplicity and depth.

His literary journey was not only prolific but also profoundly inspiring, influencing generations of readers and writers alike. A familiar figure in 'mushairas' across India, he was much admired for the art with which he not only recited his sparkling couplets, but frequently elaborated on their creation and his inspiration.

Born in 1935, Bashir Badr rose to prominence in the post-Independence period, becoming one of the most widely read and quoted poets in contemporary Urdu literature. His ghazals, often laced with poignant reflections on life and relationships, earned him admiration across India and beyond. He was known for bridging the gap between classical traditions and modern sensibilities, making Urdu poetry accessible to a broader audience.

His couplets, frequently shared in everyday conversations and on social platforms, remain etched in public memory. Despite his illness in later years, Badr’s contributions continued to resonate, reminding admirers of the enduring power of words. He once wrote: "Ham bhi darya hain hamen apna hunar maaluum hai/Jis taraf bhi chal padenge raasta ho jaayega".

His decline due to dementia was a painful chapter, as the poet who once illuminated minds with his verses gradually lost his own connection to memory and recognition. Yet, his work stands as a testament to resilience and creativity, ensuring that his voice will echo long after his departure.

As the literary community mourns his loss, tributes are pouring in from writers, scholars, and admirers who regard him as a towering figure in Urdu poetry. Dr Bashir Badr’s death leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his words will continue to inspire and console countless hearts.

As he wrote: "Musafir hai ham bhi musafir ho tum bhi/Kisi mod pe phir mulaqaat hogi".

Thrissur (Kerala), May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Eminent Malayalam poet and intellectual K. Satchidanandan on Thursday made one of the sharpest public criticisms of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI-M, saying he should not have become the Leader of the Opposition.

Satchidanandan also warned that growing intolerance could weaken the very foundations of communism.

Interacting with reporters on the occasion of his 80th birthday, Satchidanandan said he did not think Vijayan would become the Opposition leader.

"A more energetic Opposition leader should have been identified. Many people now feel that way," he said.

The poet also strongly criticised the alleged attack by CPI-M workers on Enforcement Directorate officials and CRPF personnel during searches conducted at Vijayan’s residence in connection with the CMRL-Exalogic financial transactions case involving his daughter T. Veena.

"Investigations should not have been confronted through violence. I am not justifying what many describe as ED excesses or a witch-hunt. But why could it not be handled peacefully?" he asked.

Warning the Left leadership against intolerance, Satchidanandan said such behaviour could damage the survival of communist politics itself.

"If intolerance continues, communism will not survive," he said.

He remarked that the Left had effectively defeated itself by moving away from ordinary people and failing to recognise public sentiment.

"The Left itself defeated the Left. They lost touch with common people," he observed.

Satchidanandan also blamed abusive political behaviour on social media for contributing to the coalition’s electoral setback.

"Those spreading abuse and obscenity in cyberspaces also played a major role in the defeat," he said.

He further criticised what he termed the excessive projection of Vijayan during the election campaign.

"Even during the Covid period, there were ministers who worked effectively, but only Pinarayi was projected repeatedly. People could clearly see all this," he said.

Referring to the ED investigation, Satchidanandan said allegations should be countered with truth and transparency rather than aggression.

"The ED probe should be confronted with the truth. Otherwise, it creates the impression that there is fear of the truth," he added.

Kolkata, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kolkata witnessed a change in arrangements for Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) prayers on Thursday, with namaz held at Brigade Parade Ground instead of the customary Red Road venue, for the first time in years.

After several years, the prayers were not conducted on Red Road, where they had traditionally been held twice a year -- during Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha -- under previous regimes, including the Left Front (1977-2011) and the Trinamool Congress (2011-2026).

During the Trinamool Congress's rule, then-Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the Red Road gatherings twice a year. In earlier years, the use of open roads for congregational prayers often led to traffic disruptions in central Kolkata.

In fact, this time, nowhere in Kolkata was the Bakrid Namaz organised on open roads, which often caused traffic jams during the previous years.

Kolkata Police had extensive security arrangements in place across the city, including Brigade Parade Ground and its adjacent areas, to ensure law & order was maintained on the occasion.

Additional police personnel had been deployed all over the city, especially at places adjacent to mosques. Drones have been used for aerial surveillance.

In fact, after taking oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari announced that the new state government will not allow any religious gathering on the road, causing inconvenience to the public at large due to the traffic congestion it creates.

The impact of this announcement was felt in Kolkata on Thursday, with the Bakrid Namaz organised at Brigade Parade Ground and not on the Red Road, as was the earlier practice.

Last year, the office of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, having the administrative authority of the Red Road, asked the Khilafat Committee to arrange an alternative place for Eid Namaz due to security reasons.

However, Mamata Banerjee then said that she would try to convince the Eastern Command authorities to give permission, but her rule ended after defeat in the polls, as a result of which the Bakrid Namaz was performed at the Brigade Parade Ground.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Vasai-Virar and Navi Mumbai’s Sanpada area, where worshippers prayed for peace, prosperity, and brotherhood amid adequate police deployment.

In Tamil Nadu, people offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers at Manjakuppam grounds and nearby mosques in Cuddalore, at Eidgahs in Madurai, and at the Vellaiyampattu Eidgah in Tirupathur.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Eid-ul-Adha prayers were held peacefully at the Eidgah under tight security arrangements.

Eid-ul-Adha is the major Muslim festival, which is also celebrated as Bakrid. The day is celebrated to commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to Allah. This day honours the belief that despite being tempted by the devil, he was so devoted to Allah that nothing could stop him from making the sacrifice. Allah offered a sheep to be sacrificed instead of his son as a token of appreciation for his loyalty.

New Delhi, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended Eid al-Adha greetings to the countrymen and prayed for happiness and good health in society.

"Eid ul-Adha greetings! May this occasion deepen the spirit of brotherhood and happiness in our society. Praying for everyone's success and good health," PM Modi said in a post on X.

While Bakrid was celebrated in most parts of India on Thursday, some regions, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, observed the festival on Wednesday.

As with other Islamic festivals, the date of Eid al-Adha depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.

This year, religious authorities in several parts of India confirmed that the Dhul-Hijjah crescent moon was not sighted on the expected evening. As a result, the beginning of the Islamic month shifted by a day, leading to Bakrid being celebrated on May 28 in most states across the country.
