Raisen, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Three young girls lost their lives after drowning in a well in Sagaur village under Gairatganj tehsil of Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district on Saturday.

The victims, all close friends, had gone to fetch water from a well located nearly one kilometre outside the village when the tragedy occurred.

Their desperate attempts to save one another resulted in all three drowning in the deep waters, highlighting the daily hardships faced by tribal families in accessing basic necessities.

The deceased were identified as 12-year-old Radha, daughter of Halkeram, her 13-year-old sister Tanu, also daughter of Halkeram, and their 12-year-old friend Amrita, daughter of Ramgopal, police officials said.

As part of their daily routine, the three girls, accompanied by another village girl named Amina, had gone to the well to fetch water.

Seeking relief from the intense heat, they decided to bathe on the platform around the well.

Police officials said that while filling their vessels, one of the girls slipped and fell into the deep well.

In an attempt to rescue her, the second girl jumped in, followed by the third. However, none of them could survive due to the high water level and the considerable depth of the well.

Amina, who was standing nearby, witnessed the horrifying incident and ran back to the village to alert the families.

The news triggered panic and grief across Sagaur village.

Villagers rushed to the spot and, after considerable effort using ropes and bamboo poles, managed to pull the three girls out of the water.

The families immediately rushed them to Gairatganj Civil Hospital, where doctors declared all three brought dead.

The simultaneous funeral processions of the three children cast a deep shadow of grief over the village.

Personnel from the Garhi police outpost reached the spot and registered a case of accidental death.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the well lacked a protective parapet wall or any safe mechanism for drawing water.

Villagers said the government’s tap water supply scheme in the area remained incomplete, forcing residents, especially women and children, to travel long distances even for basic requirements such as water.

The coal mine accident in north China's Shanxi Province has left 82 dead, with nine others still trapped.

A gas explosion hit the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County at 7:29 pm on Friday, when more than 200 people were down the shaft, according to the county's emergency management bureau, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 123 people are receiving treatment at hospitals, including two in critical condition and two in serious condition, while 119 others sustained minor injuries.

Multiple rescue teams are taking turns going down the mining shaft.

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged all-out rescue of the missing and treatment of the injured and demanded a thorough investigation into the cause, with accountability pursued in accordance with the law.

The investigation team said it will thoroughly ascertain the cause of the accident, clarify the responsibilities of local authorities, industry regulators and the enterprise involved, and mete out strict penalties in accordance with laws and regulations.

Deadly accidents are common in China's coal mining industry, due to which safety standards have been tightened in recent years, but accidents still occur.

Earlier in 2025, three people were trapped following a coal mine accident in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The accident occurred when part of an underground tunnel collapsed in Zhenping County, in the city of Ankang. Eight workers were carrying out rectification work at the site when the collapse happened, with five of them managing to escape safely.

He assured the family that the state government stood firmly with them in this hour of grief and announced substantial financial assistance to help them cope with the irreparable loss.

According to the announcement, the Madhya Pradesh government will provide financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh to the family of the deceased children.

The amount includes Rs 2 lakh from the state government and Rs 4 lakh from the MP Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited.

Additionally, the District Red Cross Society has already provided immediate relief of Rs 20,000 to the family.

The district administration has also extended funeral assistance of Rs 15,000.

The tragic incident occurred at around 11.20 a.m. in Kasihwa village under Gopad Banas tehsil when a suspected short circuit from an electric pole near the house of Ramratan Saket triggered a massive blaze.

The fire rapidly engulfed the tiled-roof house, trapping the three children inside.

The victims were identified as Kumari Ghummu alias Sandhya Saket, aged around one-and-a-half years, her younger sister Riddhi, aged about one year, and their brother Nagendra, aged around three years.

The parents were away at the time -- the father had gone to the city for daily wage work, while the mother had stepped out to buy groceries -- leaving the children alone at home.

Villagers rushed to the spot but were unable to control the flames due to inadequate resources.

The fire brigade reached the village nearly two hours later, by which time the house had already been reduced to ashes.

The bodies were later recovered and sent for post-mortem examination after completion of police formalities.

Sidhi Collector Vikas Mishra had earlier visited the village, consoled the grieving family and assured prompt assistance under the Sambal Yojana and other welfare schemes.

According to villagers, the children screamed for help as the flames rapidly spread through the house.

Local residents rushed to the spot and made desperate attempts to douse the flames and rescue the children. However, due to the intensity of the blaze and the lack of adequate water and resources, their efforts failed.

The fire brigade reached the village nearly two hours after the incident was reported. By then, the entire house had been reduced to ashes, with thick smoke still rising from the debris.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Jamodi police station in-charge Divya Prakash Tripathi arrived at the spot along with a police team.

With the help of villagers, the bodies of the three children were recovered from the ruins. After completing the necessary panchnama and legal formalities, the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

A large number of villagers gathered at the site, expressing grief and shock over the heart-rending loss.

Sidhi Collector Vikas Mishra visited Kasihwa village to assess the situation and console the bereaved family.

Expressing profound sorrow, the Collector described the incident as extremely tragic and unfortunate. He said the exact cause of the fire was being thoroughly investigated.

While some villagers suspect a short circuit to be the possible cause, authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if any negligence is found.

The Collector also assured prompt financial assistance to the family under the government’s Sambal Yojana and other applicable welfare schemes.

The tractor-trolley was carrying around 22 people, mostly migrant labourers from Umaria district along with their young children. The accident occurred on Bina Road between Layra and Maliyakheda villages while the group was on its way to agricultural fields to harvest the moong crop.

According to police officials, the vehicle suddenly lost balance and overturned, throwing the passengers heavily onto the road. Panic and chaos gripped the spot as labourers and children cried for help following the mishap.

Local villagers and passers-by rushed to the accident site and assisted in rescue operations. Kurwai Station In-charge RK Mishra reached the spot with his team soon after receiving information and coordinated the rescue efforts.

All the injured were immediately shifted to the Kurwai Community Health Center for treatment.

Doctors declared 55-year-old local farmer Rishabh Sahu, also known as Rishi, and 65-year-old labourer Darbri Kaul from Umaria dead on arrival.

Police completed the preliminary inquest proceedings and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination.

Among the injured, 20-year-old Divya Kol and 35-year-old Rajni Kol sustained serious injuries and were referred to the District Hospital after primary treatment.

The remaining 18 injured people, including several young children, are undergoing treatment at the Kurwai Community Health Center, where doctors are closely monitoring their condition.

Police and health department officials remained on high alert for several hours after the accident.

Preliminary investigation by the police suggested that overloading of the tractor-trolley and excessive speed were the primary causes behind the mishap. The vehicle has been seized and evidence collected from the accident site.

Station In-charge RK Mishra said all legal formalities had been completed and a detailed investigation was underway from every possible angle.

The district administration has informed the families of the injured persons.

According to police, the accident occurred on the expressway after the bus reportedly lost control, crashed through the guardrail, veered into a nearby field, and overturned.

There were around 42 passengers on board, including 20 women, 10 men, and 12 children. While many sustained minor injuries, several passengers suffered serious wounds.

The injured were rushed to Pinan Hospital with the help of local residents and emergency teams. Due to the severity of their injuries, six passengers were later referred to Alwar District Hospital for advanced treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have briefly fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident. Police officials are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The impact of the accident was severe, leaving the bus badly damaged. Most passengers were asleep when the vehicle overturned. Survivors recalled waking up to a loud crash and finding themselves trapped inside the damaged bus amid panic and screams.

Police personnel and local villagers launched immediate rescue efforts, helping passengers escape from the overturned vehicle and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals through ambulances.

Among those admitted to Alwar District Hospital, the condition of four passengers remains critical. They have been identified as Geeta (63), wife of Harishankar from Sawai Madhopur; Lalita (57), wife of Omprakash from Gangapur City; Vimala (55), wife of Charulal from Khandar, Sawai Madhopur; and Harishankar (62), son of Gulabchand from Khandar, Sawai Madhopur.

According to locals, the devotees were travelling from Shyopura in Madhya Pradesh to Govardhan to participate in a Bhagwat Katha religious programme. Around 80 devotees were travelling in two buses, of which one bus carrying nearly 42 passengers met with the accident.

Reni SHO Bane Singh Meena reached the spot and supervised the rescue and relief operations. With the combined efforts of the police and local residents, all trapped passengers were safely evacuated from the overturned bus.

The accident occurred after a head-on collision between a Cruiser vehicle and a truck on the national highway late on Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Tolusab Kashwar (27), Husain Shah (48), Maiboob Ali (45), Rasool Bee (42), and Fatima Ali (38), all residents of Ingalagi village in Chittapur taluk.

According to police, the family members had travelled to Yadgir for personal work and were returning to their native village of Ingalagi in a Cruiser vehicle after completing their work. While they were travelling on the national highway near Ladlapur around midnight, a speeding truck reportedly collided head-on with their vehicle.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the Cruiser vehicle was completely mangled. All five occupants suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Soon after receiving information about the accident, senior police officials rushed to the spot along with staff members. The officials inspected the accident site and later shifted the bodies after retrieving them from the crushed vehicle. Further legal procedures are being carried out.

It may be recalled that a series of accidents involving multiple vehicles on National Highway 50 in Vijayanagara district on April 19, 2026, left four persons, including three members of a family, dead and more than 20 injured.

The serial accident occurred near Danapur, close to the BMM ISPAT plant, where a garlic-laden lorry travelling towards Bengaluru went out of control and ploughed into several vehicles along the busy stretch of the highway.

Earlier on May 4, three were killed, and four others were injured after a car collided with a sand-laden lorry near Gundlupet on NH 766 in Chamarajanagar district. Police said victims from Kerala were among the dead, while the injured were shifted to Mysuru hospital. A probe into illegal sand transport is underway.

The accident claimed the lives of a man and his three children, while his wife and the children's mother sustained critical injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lucknow, officials said.

Due to scorching heat and a lack of electricity, the family had set up their beds outside their home, right by the roadside, to sleep. At that moment, a speeding dumper truck approaching from the direction of Mahmudabad lost control and ploughed into the sleeping family, according to the officials.

Amit Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Fatehpur, confirmed that four people lost their lives, while one is in critical condition.

The injured were initially taken to a Community Health Centre; however, after receiving first aid, the mother was referred to the District Hospital due to her critical condition. The injured children had already succumbed to their injuries by that time.

According to the officials, upon hearing the cries, locals had immediately rushed to the site and initiated rescue operations.

Officials said that the locals informed the police following the incident. Upon receiving the information, the police also arrived at the spot; they facilitated the injured woman's transport to the hospital and sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination.

The police have taken the dumper truck and its driver into custody.

The officials said that an investigation into the matter is underway.

The accident took place in the jurisdiction of the Reni Police Station area on the expressway, triggering panic and chaos at the scene as injured passengers cried for help after the bus overturned and fell into a deep roadside ditch.

According to officials, the accident occurred at around 7 a.m. near Chainage 139.6 on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway when the sleeper bus, reportedly travelling in the wrong lane, lost control and overturned.

The bus was carrying nearly 40 passengers, all of whom sustained injuries of varying severity in the accident.

Police officials said many of the passengers were travelling to participate in religious programmes linked to the ongoing Braj Chaurasi Parikrama pilgrimage being held during Adhik Maas.

Passengers on board the bus were from different regions and were heading towards Govardhan in Mathura to attend religious events and Bhagwat Katha programmes.

Preliminary investigation by the police suggests that the driver may have briefly dozed off while driving, causing the bus to go out of control before overturning on the expressway.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Rajasthan Police immediately reached the spot and launched rescue and relief operations under the supervision of Reni Police Station SHO Banesingh Meena.

With the help of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) ambulances, all injured passengers were shifted to Pinan Hospital for treatment.

According to doctors treating the injured, at least six passengers sustained critical injuries and were later referred to Alwar for advanced medical care.

Officials said the number of critically injured passengers referred to Alwar could rise depending on medical assessment.

Police said investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the accident are underway, though initial findings indicate that the driver falling asleep appears to be the primary reason behind the mishap.

One of the passengers, Lalita Goyal, a resident of Gangapur City, said she had first travelled to Sawai Madhopur and boarded the bus from there to continue her journey to Govardhan.

She stated that the group was travelling to Govardhan Ji to attend a Bhagwat Katha programme.

Following the accident, an NHAI team also reached the spot and assisted in rescue and clearance operations. After all passengers were shifted to hospitals, the overturned bus was later removed from the ditch and restored upright with the help of a JCB machine.

According to fire officials, the Delhi Fire Service control room received information about the blaze on Friday night at around 11:57 P.M. By 1:20 A.M., nearly 25 fire tenders had reached the spot and firefighting operations were underway.

The blaze rapidly spread through several shops in the market, with thick smoke engulfing the area. Authorities fear losses running into crores of rupees as multiple furniture units and goods were gutted in the fire.

Tension also erupted at the site as angry locals allegedly created a ruckus and pelted stones at fire brigade vehicles.

A firefighter present at the scene said, “People are damaging our vehicles and not allowing us to work. What can we do? Police should be sent here. We came after receiving the emergency call…”

Residents, however, accused authorities of responding late to the emergency. One local resident claimed, “The fire has been raging for the last three hours, and no fire brigade had arrived initially. Later, two fire tenders came, but one of them was only half-filled, and even its pipe was damaged.”

Another resident alleged foul play behind the incident, saying, “Many people known to us own shops here. Losses worth crores have been caused. We believe the fire was set deliberately and was pre-planned for political reasons.”

Meanwhile, teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Delhi Police have reached the spot to investigate the cause of the fire. Officials said forensic experts are examining the site as part of the probe. No casualties have been reported so far, while efforts to completely douse the flames continued for several hours.

Lakshminarasimha Charyulu and his son, Pawan Kumar Charyulu, who were working as priests at the Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple, allegedly died by suicide by jumping into the temple pond.

Locals who spotted their bodies in the pond alerted the police. The bodies were pulled out and shifted to a government hospital for autopsy.

Preliminary investigation by the police indicated that the priests took the extreme step due to financial and family problems.

Lakshminarasimha Charyulu’s wife, Sridevi, had died a month ago due to health-related issues.

Police registered a case and took up further investigation.

Meanwhile, in Khammam district, a woman was found dead at her house and her relatives alleged that her husband killed her for insurance money.

R. Meenakshi (28) was found hanging in her house in Gol Thanda in Thirumalayapalem on the outskirts of Khammam town on Friday morning.

Police detained her husband, R. Shivaji, after an old video allegedly showing him brutally assaulting her surfaced.

Meenakshi’s relatives alleged that Shivaji beat her to death and was trying to make it appear as a suicide.

They demanded that police charge Shivaji with Meenakshi’s murder.

They alleged that he had been eyeing the life insurance policy purchased in her name and that he regularly assaulted and harassed her.

According to the family, there was an insurance policy worth Rs 80 lakh in her name.

Hours after Meenakshi’s body was found, a video surfaced showing Shivaji purportedly hitting Meenakshi with a belt. The woman was tied up while their child could be heard crying in the background.

According to police, the video was recorded by one of Meenakshi’s relatives but was kept hidden after family members intervened and a compromise was reached.

Police said they had registered a case and launched an investigation. They were awaiting the post-mortem examination report to ascertain whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

Police were questioning Shivaji as part of the investigation.

Ahmedabad, May 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nearly a year after the Air India AI-171 plane crash in Ahmedabad, a relative of three victims has claimed that while searching for his family members inside the city Civil Hospital mortuary, he saw the body of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal seated in what he described as a “boxer position”, with his hand still on the aircraft controls.

Romin Vohra, a resident of Thasra village in Gujarat’s Kheda district, said he entered the mortuary on June 13, a day after the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The AI-171 flight, operating from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed seconds after departure on June 12 after issuing a Mayday call to air traffic control, according to reports issued at the time.

The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including passengers and crew members. Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder were among those killed. In total, 260 people died, including 19 on the ground. There was only one survivor in the crash.

Vohra lost three members of his family in the disaster -- his elder brother Parvez Vohra, 33; his niece Zuveriya Vahora, aged three years and eight months; and his maternal aunt Yasmin Vahra, 50.

Speaking in a detailed conversation nearly 11 months after the crash, Vohra said he had reached Civil Hospital within around 20 minutes of hearing about the accident as he was already in Ahmedabad at the time.

“At first, I was not searching for bodies. I was searching for survivors. I ran across the hospital in very difficult conditions looking for my family. By night, we came to know everyone had died,” he told IANS.

Vohra, who said he works in the paramedical field as a laboratory technician and had volunteered at Civil Hospital during the Covid-19 period, claimed he obtained permission to enter the mortuary because of his contacts and medical background.

He said he remained inside the mortuary between approximately noon and 2 p.m. on June 13, where he saw multiple rooms filled with bodies and body parts.

“There were five rooms and all five were filled with bodies, one over another. I opened the coverings and searched body after body hoping I would find my brother, the child or my aunt,” he said.

He described seeing severed body parts, burnt remains and victims from both inside the aircraft and on the ground.

“There was the severed head of a small child, maybe one-and-a-half or two years old. I even lifted the earrings to look closely. I saw a pregnant woman whose saree had not burnt but whose stomach had burst open. I saw a mother wrapped around her child and both were completely burnt,” he claimed.

According to Vohra, while moving through the mortuary he noticed a separate table in a corner where he said Captain Sabharwal’s body had been placed.

“I saw Captain Sumeet Sabharwal sir’s body separately on one side. The body was in a sitting position. His legs were bent, one hand was straight and there was a steering control in his hand. He was wearing a white shirt, blue trousers and a tie,” he told IANS.

He claimed the back portion of the body had suffered burn injuries while the front side remained comparatively identifiable.

“I belong to the medical field, so according to body structure, age and build, I could identify the difference between the two pilots,” he said, referring to Captain Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder.

He added, “Kunder sir was younger, while Sumeet sir was older.”

Vohra said he believed the captain had attempted to save the aircraft until the final moments.

“My main point is that Captain Sumeet Sabharwal sir tried till the end to save the flight and the passengers. If someone wanted to die intentionally, he would not continue holding the steering,” he asserted.

He repeatedly rejected suggestions that the pilot intentionally caused the crash.

“I have been saying since June 12 that the pilot did not do this. No person would kill so many people along with himself. Even if someone dies, they do not take hundreds of others with them,” he said.

Vohra said he had not initially spoken publicly because he did not realise the significance of what he had seen.

He said the issue came up during later conversations with social activist Kuldip Ishrani, also known as Kaviraj.

“I did not know this could become such an important point. Only later did I realise my statement mattered,” he said.

He told IANS that if the final investigation report attributes the crash to pilot error, the families would challenge it legally.

“If the final report says pilot error, then we will challenge the report as per our lawyers’ guidance,” he said.

Vohra is part of a group of nearly 200 families seeking access to the black box data.

Preliminary findings released months after the crash referred to confusion inside the cockpit after fuel supply switches reportedly moved to cutoff positions shortly after take-off.

Cockpit voice recordings reportedly captured one pilot asking, “Why did you cutoff?”, while the other replied, “I did not do so.”

Vohra said he signed panchnama documents for seven bodies at Meghani Nagar police station after being requested by officers present at the mortuary.

“If someone asks for proof that I was there, my signature is in the panchnama. I identified bodies and signed as a witness,” he said.

He claimed very few people were allowed inside the mortuary at the time.

“Even being allowed to enter was a big thing because most people were not allowed inside,” he claimed.

According to Vohra, his brother’s body was handed over on June 14 at around 6 p.m., his aunt’s remains on June 15 at around 3 p.m., and the child’s remains on June 19.

“I had decided I would not leave without taking the child with me,” he said.

He alleged that families spent days sleeping outside the hospital while waiting for DNA identification and documentation.

“We slept on footpaths. One night police beat us with sticks because politicians were expected to visit. For 10 days, we survived almost only on water,” he said.

Vohra said revisiting the crash site remained emotionally overwhelming.

“When I go there, my heartbeat increases,” he said.

Vohra noted that his sister-in-law had been nine months pregnant at the time of the crash and gave birth to a baby boy around 20 days after her husband’s death.

“My brother’s dream was to have a son because he already had two daughters. God gave him a son but took away the father,” he said.

He recalled that several relatives travelling on the flight were returning to London, where family members, including pregnant relatives, were living.

Vohra also said some victims’ families had approached the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) requesting participation in the probe, but were informed that the investigation remained under Indian jurisdiction.

The crash remains one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent Indian aviation history.

Investigations involving Indian authorities and international aviation experts are continuing as the first anniversary of the disaster approaches on June 12.

Dinesh hailed from Ankola town in Karwar district and had recently shifted to Belagavi. He was undergoing treatment for lung cancer at the KLE hospital.

Police said the doctor went to the gallery area of his residence in the morning and allegedly shot himself in the head. The police suspect that, unable to bear the suffering caused by the illness, he took the extreme step.

Police further stated that the doctor had sent WhatsApp messages to KLE honorary executive president Prabhakar Kore and to Dr Kerur, who was treating him.

In his message to Prabhakar Kore, he reportedly stated: “You have helped me all these years. However, I am suffering from severe pain and have taken this difficult decision under these circumstances.

“This is my personal decision. Kindly help my family and also inform the City Police Commissioner.”

He was diagnosed with lung cancer four months ago. He often shared details of his suffering with his friends.

The police have recovered the messages and are investigating the matter.

It may be recalled that Dr M.U. Nikitha, 23, an Ayurvedic doctor from Basava Layout, allegedly died by suicide on April 26 at Holalkere in Chitradurga district after she was distressed by rumours linking her with a professor at an Ayurvedic medical college.

She had claimed that her friends and the professor’s wife harassed her over rumours regarding her alleged relationship with the professor.

In another shocking incident, a doctor from Karwar district allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a double-barrelled gun at his residence in January 2026. He was reportedly under severe mental distress after facing online criticism over an unverified viral video.

According to police, the video showed the doctor being accused of giving expired medicine to a patient. However, the allegation had not been verified. Despite this, the video spread widely on social media and several netizens criticised and abused the doctor online, which is believed to have affected him mentally.

As per reports, an auto-rickshaw carrying 10 members of a family from Erandra village under Golanthara police station limits in Ganjam district was on its way to attend a Mundan ceremony at Maa Singhasini Temple in the Polasara area of the same district on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the auto-rickshaw met with a head-on collision with a bus at Ladakapalli village under Purusottampur police limits.

Upon being informed, fire services personnel, with the help of locals, rescued the injured persons and rushed them to the nearby Community Health Centre at Kodala, where doctors declared six of them dead.

The deceased persons also include two minor girls. Doctors at the CHC later referred four seriously injured persons to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, as their conditions deteriorated.

The deceased persons were identified as Malli Behera, 75; Narasingh Behera, 43; Lilabati Behera, 45; Ratani Behera, 46; and the two minors, Sani and Kiran Behera.

A pall of gloom descended over the area after the tragic incident. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter after seizing the vehicle and detaining the driver of the bus involved in the accident.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the tragic road accident in the Purusottampur area of Ganjam district.

Taking to his X handle, the Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of every deceased victim.

He also directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for those injured in the accident and wished them a speedy recovery.

Police officials said that, prima facie, the case appeared to be one of suicide. However, the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Investigators are currently collecting forensic evidence from the hostel room and examining all possible angles related to the incident.

Police said they were questioning hostel inmates, classmates and college staff members as part of the investigation to ascertain the circumstances that may have led to the incident.

The deceased student’s family, who reside in Muzaffarpur, has been informed about the incident. The news has reportedly left the family devastated.

Authorities stated that considering the seriousness of the matter, every aspect of the case was being examined carefully to determine whether any additional factors were involved in the incident.

The East Champaran Police are currently awaiting the arrival of the deceased student’s family members before proceeding with the post-mortem examination.

The autopsy will be conducted in the presence of the family members by a specially constituted board comprising three expert doctors.

As part of the investigation, viscera samples will also be preserved for forensic examination to help determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the death.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have completely prohibited tourist entry to the Sakrebyle camp until new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented.

Initially, only activities such as elephant bathing and direct interaction with the elephants had been banned at the camp, while tourists were still allowed to view the elephants from a distance. However, officials have now decided to suspend all visitor access to prevent any untoward incidents.

Authorities said the restrictions would remain in force until revised safety guidelines and SOPs are put in place.

Located near Gajanur in Shivamogga taluk, along the backwaters of the Tunga reservoir, the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp is a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from across Karnataka for elephant interaction.

It may be recalled that as a tragic outcome of the fight between two elephants, S. Junese, a tourist from Tamil Nadu, was killed on Monday.

Meanwhile, following the death of the 33-year-old woman tourist from Chennai in the incident involving the clash between the captive elephants, authorities have closed the Dubare Elephant Camp. Tourist entry into the camp has been completely prohibited in the wake of the incident.

Her husband, Joyal, sustained severe injuries in the incident and has been shifted to the Kushalnagar Government Hospital for treatment.

According to police, the couple had arrived at the Dubare Elephant Camp on Monday morning. They initially got photographs taken with the trained elephants. Later, they ventured into the waterbody along with other tourists while the elephants were being taken for a bath by the mahouts. The tourists were also participating in cleaning and bathing the elephants.

While the tourists were engaged in the activity, two captive elephants, Marthanda and Kanjan, suddenly started fighting with each other. Despite repeated attempts by the mahouts to control them, the elephants continued fighting.

During the commotion, Marthanda reportedly fell on S. Junese, killing her on the spot and seriously injuring her husband. Fellow tourists and authorities rescued the couple from the water body and shifted them to the hospital.

Elephant Marthanda, which had sustained severe injuries during the clash with another captive elephant, Kanjan, succumbed to its injuries on Tuesday.

Sources said that Marthanda sustained severe internal injuries after collapsing during the attack and being unable to get up. The elephant was reportedly attacked continuously for nearly 15 minutes. Veterinarians treating Marthanda stated that the excessive loss of blood is suspected to have severely affected the functioning of its heart.

During the chase, the smugglers’ speeding car reportedly lost control and first rammed into a tractor parked near the roadside. The impact severely damaged the tractor before the vehicle struck Manoj Kumar, who was walking along the roadside after dropping his granddaughter at school and heading to open his grocery shop at Ratanpura Chowk.

Locals rushed him to Raghopur Referral Hospital in critical condition.

However, despite initial treatment, he succumbed to his injuries before he could be referred to a higher medical facility.

The victim’s wife, Pushpa Kumari, is an Anganwadi worker. The incident has left the family devastated and sparked anger among residents, many of whom blamed the growing liquor smuggling network operating near the Nepal border.

Police said they have arrested two accused persons involved in the case, while another suspect managed to escape.

During the operation, authorities recovered around 1,050 bottles of country liquor allegedly manufactured in Nepal.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was being transported from Nepal’s Lahi region and was intended for delivery in Simrahi. More details were being worked out by the police.

The deceased miner and injured worker hailed from Shangla district.

In a separate incident, a miner died while working in a coal mine in Chaparmashti area. The body of the deceased worker was taken to his native village for last rites after conducting necessary formalities.

Local residents and labour organisations have voiced serious concern over the lack of safety measures in Pakistan's coal mines and called on the government and authorities to take notice of the issue. People in the area termed recurring accidents in coal mines a constant threat to the lives of labourers. They called for strict implementation of safety measures in all mines to stop the loss of human lives in the future, The Express Tribune reported.

Last month, five coal miners were killed and another injured in two separate mining accidents in Bolan and Duki coalfield areas of Pakistan's Balochistan province.

Officials said three miners died after they were trapped underground while methane gas accumulated in a coal mine in the Bolan coal mining field near Mach area. Other miners were able to escape from the affected mine and informed authorities about the incident, Pakistan's Dawn reported.

Rescue teams from the Mines and Minerals Department and local workers started an operation to rescue trapped miners. However, the miners had died due to suffocation caused by inhaling methane gas. The bodies of workers were found in the mine and taken to the hospital.

In a separate incident, two coal miners were killed and another was injured in an accident in the Duki coal mining area, Dawn reported.

Police said that three coal miners were seriously injured after a trolley carrying coal hit them. They were immediately rushed to the hospital, where two miners succumbed to their injuries.

Acting on a coordinated effort, the Bargi police set up a strategic blockade at the Bahoripar toll plaza in Jabalpur, where they successfully arrested the fleeing driver and subsequently notified the Rewa police.

The horrific road accident unfolded in Rewa on Wednesday afternoon when a speeding motorist ran over three Jain Sadhvis, leaving two dead and a third fighting for her life in critical condition.

The tragic incident occurred directly in front of the local Collectorate, where the three female religious leaders were walking peacefully along the edge of the roadside before being struck with immense force by a vehicle that had suddenly lost control.

According to official reports, the deceased ascetics have been identified as Shruti Mati Mata and Upasham Mati Mata.

Shruti Mati Mata tragically passed away on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

The other two injured Sadhvis were immediately rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital with the assistance of nearby bystanders who ran to help amid the chaos and distress.

Upasham Mati Mata later succumbed to her severe injuries while undergoing medical treatment at the facility, while the third Sadhvi, Arika Mata, remains in highly critical condition under close medical supervision.

The heart wrenching incident has sparked widespread grief and deep resentment throughout the entire Jain community.

Following the news of the tragedy, a massive crowd of community members gathered at both the hospital and the local Jain Dharmashala to express their solidarity and sorrow.

The bodies of the two deceased Sadhvis were respectfully placed for a final darshan so that devotees could pay their last respects before the mortal remains were taken away for the performance of their final rites.

Top administrative and police officials, including Commissioner B.S. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the two sisters approaching the damaged vehicle, entering it from the driver’s side, and shutting the door behind them.

Police said the girls were later unable to open the door and got trapped inside the vehicle.

Their father, Ramesh, who runs a hair salon in the area, said he had left the children at home and gone to work earlier in the day.

“When I returned home for lunch around noon, both my daughters were missing. We searched nearby and later found them unconscious inside the car,” he said.

With the help of local residents, the girls were rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Ramesh said people at the repair centre had earlier tried to move the children away from the vehicle several times, but the girls returned to the car while playing.

The tragedy has left the family devastated.

The girls had already lost their mother to a heart attack four years ago.

Vaishali Nagar Police Station Station House Officer Gurudutt Saini said the vehicle involved in the incident was completely damaged, with its engine and battery removed.

“During preliminary investigation, it appears the children were unable to reopen the door after entering the car, leading to suffocation. The matter is being investigated in detail,” he said.

Thanks to the driver’s prompt response and presence of mind, all 16 passengers were safely evacuated before the flames engulfed the vehicle. The incident took place on Tuesday night when the MR Travels bus had just crossed Jhalamand and was heading out of the city limits.

According to police, sparks suddenly began emerging from the engine section, causing panic inside the bus as passengers noticed flames and smoke spreading rapidly. Demonstrating remarkable alertness, the driver immediately pulled the bus to the roadside and evacuated all passengers through the main exit within moments.

While most passengers managed to save their belongings, some luggage was completely destroyed in the blaze. The fire quickly spread through the vehicle, reducing most of the bus to ashes before firefighters could fully contain it.

According to Vivek Vihar Police Station SHO Dilip Khadav, police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident.

Chief Fire Officer Jalaj Ghasia said the fire alert was received, following which two fire tenders from Basni Fire Station and one from Shastri Nagar Fire Station were dispatched under the supervision of Officer Prashant Singh Chauhan. After nearly half an hour of intense firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control. Traffic movement on Pali Road remained disrupted for around 30 minutes during the operation.

Police later removed the burnt bus from the road with the help of a crane and shifted it to the Vivek Vihar Police Station premises for further investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated due to overheating or a short circuit near the engine wiring.

Officials said the bus belonged to the Euro-6 category, and similar engine-area fire incidents involving such buses have reportedly surfaced in other states as well. A detailed technical investigation by the fire brigade team is now underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

The officials said the accident occurred after a bus bearing registration number JK02CU-7482 reportedly lost control and overturned on the roadside.

Soon after the incident, rescue and relief operations were launched by police, locals and emergency teams, who rushed the injured persons to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Officials said one passenger died in the accident, while several others sustained injuries, some of whom have sustained serious injuries.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident.

According to police, the couple had arrived at the Dubare Elephant Camp on Monday morning. They initially got photographs taken with the trained elephants. Later, they ventured into the waterbody along with other tourists while the elephants were being taken for a bath by the mahouts. The tourists were also participating in cleaning and bathing the elephants.

While the tourists were engaged in the activity, two captive elephants, Marthanda and Kanjan, suddenly started fighting with each other. Despite repeated attempts by the mahouts to control them, the elephants continued fighting.

During the commotion, Marthanda reportedly fell on Jinmu, killing her on the spot and seriously injuring her husband. Fellow tourists and authorities rescued the couple from the water body and shifted them to the hospital.

Sources stated that the elephant Kanjan had earlier created panic during the Mysuru Dasara celebrations after suddenly running out of the Mysuru Palace premises following a fight with another elephant. It had also reportedly attacked other elephants at the camp in the past.

Police have taken up further investigation into the incident.

Eyewitnesses described the collision as extremely severe. The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled, while the front portion of the Scorpio suffered extensive damage.

The impact was so intense that passengers travelling in the auto-rickshaw were thrown onto the road. Several victims died on the spot, while others were left critically injured.

Hearing the loud crash, local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue efforts.

Police personnel soon arrived and, with the assistance of local residents, shifted the injured to hospital.

Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.

The damaged vehicles, including the truck, have been seized, while efforts are underway to trace and identify the truck driver, who is absconding.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Khagaria Police are waiting for the family members of the deceased to arrive and lodge formal complaints against the truck driver allegedly responsible for the accident.

“We are making efforts to record the statements of the injured persons. They are expected to help identify the deceased,” the SHO said.

Railway officials, along with personnel from the local fire department, rushed to the spot and launched a firefighting operation.

After considerable effort, the blaze was brought under control, and the damaged coach was later detached from the train.

An eyewitness, Rajesh Kumar, said the fire escalated quickly after smoke was first noticed.

He alleged that a delayed response from both Railway staff and the fire brigade contributed to the intensity of the blaze.

“The train was standing at the platform at the time when smoke suddenly started coming out of one coach. Within moments, it was engulfed in flames. Had the fire brigade and Railway staff reached earlier, the fire could have been controlled sooner,” he said.

Officials from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) stated that they received information about the fire around 6:00 A.M.

Firefighters subsequently managed to contain the blaze.

An RPF Inspector in Sasaram confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“How a fire broke out in a train stationed at the platform is being probed. The burnt coach has been removed, and the train was dispatched to Patna after a delay of nearly two hours,” the officer said.

Another official, Inspector Sanjeev Kumar, reiterated that the fire was limited to a single coach and was extinguished in time, with no injuries reported among passengers or railway staff.

Police said the driver of another car approaching from behind failed to realise how slowly the minivan was moving and attempted to swerve left in an effort to avoid a collision.

However, the vehicle struck the left side of the minivan with force, causing the van to veer off the roadway and plunge into a ditch, officials added.

Authorities clarified that the vehicle suffering from mechanical trouble, which the minivan had been following, was not involved in the collision.

Further details released during the investigation revealed that the minivan was fitted with only two front seats.

Police said the remaining five passengers were seated on boxes of mangoes without wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

According to preliminary information, six people who were inside the house at the time of the blast sustained severe burn injuries, while three others were injured after rushing in to rescue the victims amid the fire and chaos caused by the explosion.

As soon as information about the incident was received, police teams and ambulances rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to Malwan Medical College for emergency treatment.

Officials said the condition of several victims was critical, following which eight of the injured were referred to Kanpur for advanced medical care.

To ensure immediate treatment without delay, the administration created a green corridor to facilitate the swift transfer of the injured to Kanpur hospitals.

Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik, who reached the site to inspect the situation, said, "The preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was caused by a gas leak from a cylinder. The cylinder itself did not explode."

He further stated that the district administration and police were continuously monitoring the situation and that dedicated officers had been assigned in Kanpur to coordinate treatment for the injured.

"The administration has deployed an inspector and a sub-inspector in Kanpur to ensure that the injured receive the best possible treatment. The District Magistrate and police administration are continuously monitoring the situation," SP Manglik said.

The incident took place at around 9 p.m. on Sunday when Kalawati, wife of Santosh Lodhi, was preparing dinner inside the house. During cooking, a gas pipe reportedly began leaking.

Before family members could react or control the leak, the accumulated gas caught fire, resulting in a massive explosion inside the house. Kalawati was among the first to be engulfed in flames.

Hearing screams from inside the house, family members and nearby residents rushed in to rescue those trapped in the burning structure. During the rescue attempt, several others also suffered serious burn injuries.

Those injured in the incident include Sajan, Sulekha, Sanjay -- who is reportedly the family's son-in-law -- daughter Sunita, granddaughter Rita, Soni, and a neighbour identified as Karan.

Villagers gathered at the spot immediately after the explosion and collectively helped in controlling the fire before emergency services arrived. They also assisted in rescuing the injured from the damaged house.

Kalyanpur police station in-charge Sumit Dev Pandey said all seriously injured victims had been referred to Hallett Hospital in Kanpur for specialised treatment.

"The injured have been referred to Hallett Hospital, Kanpur. Other officers are present at the spot, and the matter is being investigated," Pandey said.

Police officials and administrative teams continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the leak and explosion while monitoring the condition of the injured, who are undergoing treatment in Kanpur.
