Two arrested for extorting Rs 26,000 from customer at Delhi cafe after Tinder date

New Delhi, Nov 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Police arrested two persons, including the owner of a cafe in North Delhi's Hudson Lane, for extorting around Rs 26,000 from a customer who was lured to the establishment by a woman through the dating application Tinder, an official said on Wednesday.

The complainant was threatened and prevented from leaving the cafe until he made the payment. Police are now making efforts to trace and apprehend the woman who allegedly arranged the meeting.

The accused have been identified as Javed (38), the owner of Black Panther Cafe, and Anuj Kumar (24). Both are residents of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the incident took place on November 1, when the complainant, Zaid Ahmad, a resident of West Champaran, Bihar, came into contact with a woman identifying herself as Sanya through the Tinder dating application.

She invited him for a blind date and asked him to meet near GTB Nagar Metro Station between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Subsequently, she took him to Black Panther Cafe in Hudson Lane, Mukherjee Nagar.

At the cafe, the woman ordered various food items, drinks and whisky. After some time, the complainant was presented with a handwritten bill amounting to approximately Rs 26,000.

When he questioned the excessive amount, the cafe owner and staff pressured him to make the payment immediately. The complainant further alleged that three to four persons threatened him and prevented him from leaving the premises.

Fearing for his safety and under mental pressure, he contacted his father, who transferred the required amount online.

Police said the initial payment attempts through the QR code provided by the cafe owner failed. Subsequently, another QR code displaying the name of Naveen Rajput was provided, through which the complainant successfully transferred the money. He was allowed to leave only after the payment was made.

After leaving the cafe, the woman switched off her mobile phone and became untraceable. The complainant subsequently informed his father, following which a PCR call was made to the police emergency number 112.

Following the complaint, an FIR (No. 451/2026) under Sections 308(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station.

During the investigation, a police team comprising SI Vijay and Head Constable Praveen examined the circumstances of the incident and established the involvement of the two accused. Both were subsequently arrested from the cafe.

Police said neither accused has any previous criminal involvement.

Further investigation is underway to trace the woman identified as Sanya alias Nikita and ascertain the involvement of other persons in the alleged extortion racket.
