Mumbai, Oct 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid the blame game between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena over the Maharashtra Legislative Council election results, the Shiv Sena chief leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Thursday that the party has consistently respected the alliance values even during friendly political contests.
Addressing political queries regarding the alliance, Deputy CM Shinde added that the Shiv Sena strictly adheres to 'Alliance dharma' and expects the same in return, noting that the party has consistently respected coalition values even during friendly political contests.
Eknath Shinde's statement comes in the wake of war of words between BJP and Shiv Sena over state Council polls in which the MahaYuti won the Pune and Amravati Teacher's seats while Maha Vikas Aghadi bagged the Pune, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates' seats.
The internal friction among the MahaYuti alliance was the leading factor that was responsible for it to win two instead of five seats.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President and Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar said, "In any election, there are victories and defeats. Even when the results come out, self-introspection is necessary, and we will do so. We will try to improve. I genuinely feel that this result calls for self-introspection on our part."
In a post on social media, the State BJP chief Spokesperson Navnath Ban wrote "In the elections for the Teachers' and Graduate constituencies, ally Shiv Sena did not provide the expected cooperation in Pune and Nagpur. By supporting Sachin Sanap at the last moment in Pune, Shiv Sena hit the unity of MahaYuti. The votes he received were lost to BJP in the Graduate election. Meanwhile, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Abdul Sattar campaigned directly against NCP, which also hurt our prospects. Had Shiv Sena followed the coalition ethics (MahaYuti Dharma) and supported BJP and NCP, MahaYuti would have won all five seats. However, out of greed for a single seat in Pune, Shiv Sena put its allies in trouble and lost the opportunity to win three seats. Damaging allies for the sake of one seat is not in the interest of MahaYuti."
On the other hand, the state Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Paranjape noted, "The notion that "we (BJP) will contest all seats and win all seats" is not appropriate for the MahaYuti. The BJP must maintain the respect of its alliance partners."
Paranjape added, "The BJP, which claims to be the world's largest party, should introspect on its own electoral strategy and internal discontent instead of shifting the blame of defeat onto its allies."
Meanwhile, Deputy CM Shinde termed the murder of Shiv Sena-UBT functionary Pradeep Purnekar in Thane as deeply tragic and unfortunate, while strongly criticising attempts to politicise the incident.
He emphasised that the Shiv Sena stands firmly with the bereaved Purnekar family and reiterated that he had directed the Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre to conduct a completely impartial and transparent investigation from day one.
In a significant political development, former Thane Mayor Meenakshi Shinde submitted her resignation from the post of Shiv Sena's Thane district women's wing chief.
Deputy CM Shinde noted that Meenakshi Shinde took the step voluntarily as her name was repeatedly being dragged into the murder controversy, causing distress to the party.
In her resignation letter, she expressed concern that the malicious allegations were bringing unwarranted pressure on the Shiv Sena's leadership.
Expressing displeasure over attempts to politicise a grave criminal matter, the Deputy Chief Minister said that legal proceedings are underway, the primary accused have been apprehended, and the weapon used has been recovered by law enforcement.
"On the very first day, I personally called the Police Commissioner to ensure an impartial probe without shielding anyone," Deputy CM Shinde added.
He appealed to the public and political factions to exercise restraint, cautioning against exerting undue pressure on investigative agencies and allowing them to perform their duty.
Commenting on the law-and-order situation in Thane, Deputy CM Shinde condemned incidents involving outsiders disrupting civic peace, such as arson, highway blockades, and stone-pelting on police personnel in Naupada area in Thane.
He asserted that safeguarding the safety and peace of Thane residents is the state government's top priority.
