Investigators extract communication records, location data, and deleted files from cell phones, computers, and social media accounts.

Automated fingerprint databases (AFIS), facial recognition software, and forensic genetic genealogy help link suspects to crime scenes. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, body-worn cameras, drones, GPS tracking, and automated license plate readers (ALPRs) track movements and collect visual proof.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data platforms spot crime hotspots, map escape routes, and analyse serial offences. 3D scanning, modelling software, and virtual/extended reality tools recreate complex incidents like shootings or vehicle crashes.
