Sachin Pilot, Sukhbir Singh Badal criticise Punjab govt after two killed in Moga firing

New Delhi, Oct 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday expressed concern over the firing in Punjab's Moga, describing it as a reflection of the state's deepening governance crisis and raising questions over public safety and accountability.

“Deeply disturbing to learn about the open firing in Moga. The tragic state of affairs in Punjab is not just a law and order issue, but a reflection of the deepening crisis of governance, public safety, and accountability that demands urgent attention,” Pilot posted on X.

The remarks came after two people were killed and three others injured when unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on a group sitting outside a shop in the Angadpura neighbourhood of Moga.

According to preliminary information, the victims were sitting outside the shop when a black SUV arrived at the spot. The occupants of the vehicle allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at the group before fleeing.

The firing left five people injured. Four men sustained bullet injuries, while another person was reportedly hit by bullet splinters. Two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries, and others were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also condemned the incident, launching a sharp attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government over the state's law and order situation.

“The shooting incident in Moga in broad daylight is absolutely horrifying, Angadpura turns into a warzone as gangsters fire indiscriminately. Innocents are left critically injured and battling for life. Guru-Dokhi @BhagwantMann, is this your Rangla Punjab? You have pushed the state into absolute breakdown of law & order. Criminals roam free with impunity while law enforcement is reduced to a helpless spectator. Punjab is bleeding,” Badal posted on X.

According to preliminary information, an old enmity may have been behind the attack. However, the exact motive is yet to be established.

Moga police chief Sartaj Singh Chahal said a police team reached the scene after receiving information about the shooting. Police officials have initiated an investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack.
