Bikaner House photo row: Rajasthan BJP questions use of name ‘Rajiv Gandhi’ with Raihan Vadra

Jaipur, Oct 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP Rajasthan chief Madan Rathore on Friday questioned the use of the name “Rajiv Gandhi” in reference to Raihan Vadra, as the political dispute surrounding the removal of photographs from his exhibition at Delhi’s Bikaner House continues to intensify.

Raihan Vadra is the son of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and businessman Robert Vadra.

“Perhaps I shouldn't say it; you might end up calling it a controversial statement, but if you look into it, he is being referred to as ‘Rehan Rajiv Gandhi’,” Rathore said.

Questioning the use of the name, he added, “Why are you attaching the name ‘Rajiv’ to him? Is it because they want to further their political interests by leveraging that family name? And what about his father, where has he gone? Why are you using such names?”

Rathore further remarked that, according to Indian cultural traditions, a person should use the names of their own parents.

The controversy comes amid a dispute over Raihan Vadra’s photography exhibition, No Idea Is Final, at Bikaner House in New Delhi.

Raihan alleged that more than 70 photographs documenting recent youth movements and protests were removed shortly before the exhibition opened.

The Bikaner House Management Society said certain photographs were inconsistent with its policy and requested their removal.

Raihan criticised the decision, arguing that restrictions on artistic expression were wrong. His mother, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also condemned the move.

Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot criticised the removal of the photographs, accusing the BJP-led government of suppressing artistic expression.

“Bikaner House is a property of the Rajasthan government. This means that, under the watch of the BJP-led state government, the artistic expression of a young artist was stifled. This is highly condemnable,” Gehlot said.

He also questioned the decision, asking, “Why were photographs depicting the truth removed?”

Gehlot described the incident as an example of censorship and said suppressing artists’ voices amounted to an attack on democracy.

The developments have brought Raihan Vadra into a wider political debate involving the BJP and Congress, with Rathore questioning the use of the Gandhi name and Congress leaders raising concerns over artistic freedom and freedom of expression.
