Ali G: Who Iz I? Second Trailer Out Sacha Baron Cohen Returns as His Iconic Comedy Character

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the second trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I?, bringing Sacha Baron Cohen back as the outrageous, faux-streetwise character who helped launch his career. The surprise comedy sequel revisits Ali G, the British poseur first introduced in 1998, whose irreverent humour and exaggerated persona later became the centrepiece of Da Ali G Show. The new trailer also features the return of Cohen’s iconic Kazakh character Borat, adding another layer of absurdity to a promotional video that pokes fun at the controversy surrounding the film itself. The movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas across the United States on October 23, 2026.

The second trailer offers a different kind of preview, with much of its humour revolving around reactions to the movie rather than simply revealing its plot. Borat appears to comment on the controversy over whether Ali G: Who Iz I? is racist, while the video introduces two additional characters, including an Israeli soldier and a politically outspoken figure attempting to get the film cancelled. The result is a self-aware promotional piece that plays with online outrage, cultural sensitivities and the debate surrounding provocative comedy.

Ali G’s return comes after years away from the spotlight, with Sacha Baron Cohen once again stepping into the character’s exaggerated streetwise persona. First appearing in 1998, Ali G became one of the comedian’s most recognisable creations through his interviews, social commentary and deliberately absurd interactions with unsuspecting participants. The character helped establish Cohen’s reputation for blending satire with uncomfortable humour, paving the way for later creations such as Borat and Brüno. With this sequel, the comedian revisits the character that first brought him widespread attention.

The film’s story follows Ali G after two decades spent “chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’”. His comfortable routine is disrupted when he discovers that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, played by Morgana Robinson, is eight months pregnant. Suddenly facing the prospect of fatherhood and the responsibility of providing for another person, Ali G decides to travel to America in an attempt to reclaim his former glory. However, his plans soon lead him into a series of encounters with adversaries who threaten not only his ambitions but also the future of his family.

Sacha Baron Cohen has written, directed and produced Ali G: Who Iz I?, marking a new creative step for the comedian, who has previously directed episodes of his political satire series Who Is America? The film is a Four By Two Films production in association with Working Title Films, with Amazon MGM Studios handling its theatrical release. The return of Borat in the latest trailer also reinforces Cohen’s long-standing approach of using multiple personas to satirise public attitudes, political divisions and cultural stereotypes.

With its second trailer leaning heavily into meta-humour and the controversy surrounding provocative comedy, Ali G: Who Iz I? appears ready to revisit the irreverent style that made its central character famous. The film will see Ali G attempt to navigate unexpected fatherhood while trying to restore his former status, all through the exaggerated worldview that defines the character. Ali G: Who Iz I? is scheduled to release in US cinemas on October 23, 2026.
