Jaipur, Oct 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major inter-state crackdown on drug smuggling ahead of Diwali, the Rajasthan Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested Vishnaram, a fugitive criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh under “Operation Madvaitesh”.
A special team constituted under the leadership of ANTF Inspector General (IG) Vikas Kumar and operating under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Dinesh M.N. successfully carried out the operation.
Vishnaram, who figured on Rajasthan’s “Top Most Narco-25” list of drug smugglers, had been absconding for nearly two years.
ANTF IG Vikas Kumar said the accused, Vishnaram, 32, a resident of Kudla under the RIICO Police Station area of Barmer, is educated up to Class 12.
According to the police, after witnessing his grandfather’s addiction to doda post (poppy husk), Vishnaram entered the narcotics trade in pursuit of quick and substantial financial gains.
He initially worked as a helper (khalasi) and gradually established direct contacts with major drug smugglers operating in Neemuch and Mandsaur.
Police said he subsequently built an extensive network for transporting narcotics consignments from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them at high prices across the Marwar region of Rajasthan.
Active in the criminal network for nearly 12 years, Vishnaram is facing more than a dozen serious criminal cases, including offences under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, as well as cases relating to attempted murder, theft, fraud and assault.
Facing increasing pressure from the Rajasthan ANTF, Vishnaram allegedly changed his hideouts several times in Jodhpur before concealing his identity and relocating to Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, he began posing as a furniture businessman to evade local police and intelligence agencies.
During this period, he reportedly called furniture artisans from Jodhpur to Mandsaur for work.
The ANTF later received information that Vishnaram was hiding in Mandsaur and supervising furniture-related activities.
The special team began monitoring the movements of the artisans who had travelled from Jodhpur and eventually traced them to Umariya village under the jurisdiction of Pipliyamandi Police Station.
When the ANTF team raided the location in Umariya village, Vishnaram was allegedly found hosting a gathering with the artisans and his associates at the residence of a relative of another alleged smuggler.
The team swiftly surrounded the premises, leaving the accused with no opportunity to flee, and arrested him on the spot.
According to police, more than 18 cases have been registered against Vishnaram at various police stations, including Sadar Barmer, Barmer Kotwali, Mahila Thana, RIICO, Nagana, Chohtan and Gida; Jodhpur Commissionerate; Sumerpur in Pali district; Chhoti Sadri in Pratapgarh district; and Sushant Lok in Gurugram, Haryana.
These cases include offences under the Arms Act and NDPS Act, as well as charges related to attempted murder and fraud.
ANTF Inspector General Vikas Kumar said strict action against drug smugglers and other criminals would continue as part of the state-wide campaign to make Rajasthan drug-free.
