Maha CM slams Rahul Gandhi’s Delhi protest, accuses Congress of propagating anti-Constitutional agenda

Mumbai, Oct 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over the ongoing protests in New Delhi, alleging that a deliberate narrative was being created to undermine public faith in India’s constitutional institutions.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting, Fadnavis claimed that the Congress and the INDIA Bloc were attempting to spread chaos across the country and foster negativity towards constitutional institutions.

He alleged that their objective was to repeatedly discredit constitutional bodies so that people would lose confidence in them, ultimately paving the way for the rejection of the Constitution itself.

According to the Chief Minister, the narrative being promoted was that constitutional institutions were collapsing and incapable of delivering justice.

Commenting on the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) students’ agitation, Fadnavis said the state government had acted proactively and had accepted the demands raised by tribal students.

However, he alleged that certain political elements were using students as instruments to further their own leadership ambitions.

Addressing demands for the removal of the current MPSC Chairman, Fadnavis clarified that under Article 317 of the Constitution, the state government does not have the authority to directly remove the Chairman.

He explained that such removal requires a recommendation to the President following an inquiry by the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister noted that the current Chairman was not in office when the alleged examination paper leak occurred.

Nevertheless, he said the government had requested the Governor to initiate an inquiry into both serving and former chairpersons of the commission in order to instil confidence among aspirants.

Fadnavis criticised opposition leaders and protest organisers for continuing the agitation even after the government had addressed the principal demands raised by students.

He described the ongoing protests as being driven by “political ego” rather than genuine concern for student welfare.

Despite constitutional limitations, he said, the government had requested the Governor to order a comprehensive inquiry into both current and former MPSC chairpersons and into the functioning of the commission during the period when the paper leak allegedly occurred.

The Chief Minister assured students that the government had no intention of protecting anyone.

He said that if the inquiry establishes wrongdoing or procedural lapses warranting action under Article 317, the state government would immediately recommend appropriate constitutional action to the President.

Questioning demands for the Chairman’s removal without an inquiry, Fadnavis said it would be unfair to seek the dismissal of an official who was not even in office when the alleged paper leak took place.

At the same time, he reiterated that the government was prepared to investigate both current and former commission members and would not hesitate to act if any wrongdoing was established.

Commenting on drought-relief measures, Fadnavis said the state had completed a review of drought conditions covering more than 23,000 surveyed villages.

He added that ensuring drinking water availability remained the top priority.

The Chief Minister said a Central government team is scheduled to visit Maharashtra on October 11 to assess the situation and facilitate financial assistance.

On the Gokul Dairy elections, Fadnavis clarified the position of the ruling alliance and confirmed that the Mahayuti alliance would contest the Kolhapur Gokul Milk Union elections jointly under the leadership of Hassan Mushrif.
