Telangana CEO orders action over false Form 7 applications

Hyderabad, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana C. Sudharsan Reddy has directed officials to take action against those who submitted Form 7 applications to falsely delete eligible voters from the electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The directive comes amid concerns over bulk and allegedly non-genuine Form 7 applications.

The CEO issued an order to the Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the District Education Officer, Hyderabad and all collectors and DEOs of districts across the state to “take appropriate action” against individuals found knowingly filing false claims or declarations in electoral-roll forms.

Election authorities across Telangana have received 28,753 Form-7 applications, including around 5,000 from Hyderabad.

The CEO asked DEOs to take action against the applicants, who have made knowingly false statements or declarations in writing in Form-6, 6A, 7 and 8.

"It has come to the notice of this office that there have been instances of filing of bulk applications in Form-7 before the EROs, and it is also alleged that such forms are not genuine. They are, therefore, requested to issue necessary instructions that the EROs shall take action against the applicants who have made knowingly false statements or declarations in writing in Form-6, 6A, 7 & 8, as per the provisions of Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and such action shall be preceded by an inquiry under Rule 20 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960," reads the order.

The CEO’s direction comes against the backdrop of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s (TPCC) electoral office filing a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, seeking FIRs over alleged misuse of Form 7s.

On October 1, bulk Form 7s had surfaced in Musheerabad constituency of Hyderabad. Pre-printed applications were allegedly filed by a booth-level agent (BLA) of the BJP, seeking the deletion of 31 electors, including a Congress BLA and his family members.

The Congress party also complained about pre-printed Form 7 in Bahadurpura constituency, also in Hyderabad.

The ruling party also brought to the notice of the commissioner that the Booth Level Officer of booth number 173 in Goshamahal assembly constituency refused to accept the bulk pre-printed forms.
