Patna, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Preeta Verma will continue to hold the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP), Bihar, with the state Home Department extending her tenure until further orders.
The Home Department issued an order on October 5, 2026, stating that the additional charge currently held by the 1991-batch Bihar cadre IPS officer, Preeta Verma, will continue until further orders.
According to the Home Department notification, Preeta Verma was assigned the additional charge of DGP, Bihar, through a departmental order issued on September 15.
She replaced Vinay Kumar, who went on 21 days' leave while serving as Bihar DGP.
Vinay Kumar was later appointed Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Bihar, a week ago and subsequently took voluntary retirement from the post of Bihar DGP.
Preeta Verma is currently serving as Director General-cum-Commandant General of Bihar Home Guards and Fire Services.
After being given the additional charge of DGP, she has been overseeing the functioning of Bihar Police Headquarters alongside her existing responsibilities.
The latest order reiterates that Verma will continue to hold the additional charge of DGP, Bihar, until further orders.
The government order does not constitute Verma’s appointment as the permanent DGP of Bihar.
She continues to hold the post in an additional or acting capacity.
The process for appointing a full-time DGP is separate, and the state government is yet to make a permanent appointment.
The present arrangement is expected to remain in place until the process is completed and a regular DGP is appointed.
Verma, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, is among the senior-most officers in the state cadre.
The October 5 order means that Preeta Verma will continue to oversee Bihar Police until further orders, while attention remains focused on the government’s eventual appointment of a permanent DGP.
