New Delhi, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday reviewed the quality and maintenance status of National Highway projects in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The review meeting was held in New Delhi in the presence of Union Ministers of State Harsh Malhotra and Ajay Tamta, along with senior officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and representatives of executing agencies and contractors.
The review drew on media reports and social media posts about highway conditions in these states.
During the meeting, Gadkari directed officials to accelerate on-ground works and strengthen quality monitoring mechanisms. He stressed the need to adopt modern construction practices to enhance the durability of highway assets, improve riding quality, and ensure seamless connectivity across key corridors.
The Union Minister also instructed officials to carry out comprehensive post-monsoon assessments of the highway network. Special emphasis was placed on drainage restoration, slope stabilisation, and timely repair of road damage caused during the monsoon season.
He called for robust rapid-response mechanisms to minimise disruptions and ensure commuters' safety and convenience.
Gadkari said that quality and timely maintenance of national highways remain a top priority for the government. He said continuous monitoring and prompt corrective action are essential to maintain high infrastructure standards and provide a better travel experience for the public.
Officials at the meeting were asked to submit detailed action plans to address the issues flagged during the review. The minister reiterated that any lapses in quality or delays in maintenance would be dealt with strictly.
The review forms part of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' ongoing efforts to improve the overall condition of the national highway network across the country, particularly in states with challenging terrain and weather conditions.
